Headbands

Different cores, materials to cover them with and thread.

I mostly use buttonhole silk for sewing headbands. I know some find it too thick, but I’m not patient enough to use silk sewing yarn. I would always stick to silk though. You can see clearly the difference in sheen to cotton and polyester. It’s also smoother and I find cotton, even the smoothest one, looks always a bit fuzzy in comparison.

For the cores I use different materials depending on the shape and diameter I want for my headbands.All I want there is an even thread with no nubs or knobs. Most of the time I use a thread covered with schirting (a plain weave, dressed and calendered fabric). this can also be done with a thin paper (I usually use japanese paper then) but actually I prefer the fabric for the additional support it gives the headbands while stitching through it. Paper gets very unstable with the perforation. I also I get away with fewer deep stitches into the middle of a signature In the picture are two threads I have used for headbands and the one I sew most of my books with in comparison.

The lowest row shows some leather cut offs backed with parchment cut offs. Those are a bit tricky to cut. I want one side with a 90° angle to rest on top fo the edge. The other one with a slanted angle is to point up. The parchment covered side is directed towards the cover on the spine and the smaller part parallel to it points to the front. Then I cover them with a thin japanese paper to glue them to spine of the book block.

Actually that covering with paper or fabric can be skipped, I find it easier to work headbands when I don’t have to hold down the core though. I have sewn french double headbands too, using a core made of rolled up paper (we used cigarette papers without the sticky stripe), but it was rather wobbly until I was far enough in to secure them firmly to the block. Making the core with rolled up paper has plenty of advantages though. You get a very firm and even core, you can add as much paper as you want until the thickness you need/want is reached, the paper is sturdy and flexible at the same time and such, It takes a bit practice and equipment though and I ‘m simply happy enough with the cores I have so I don’t make cores from paper.

i had a very successful shopping trip after therapy

#therapy was good too #after i went to a trift store and found a nice i think mostly cotton sweater #that also fit me almost perfectly #it needs some care tho #it didn't have a label that said what material it was but it felt like cotton #it said mixed fibers algkzlj #of and everything was 1 eur!#i also found a really nice mens bleiser but it didn't fit well at the shoulders so i left it there #it was really nice 100% wool except the lining #it would have gone perfectly with the sweater...#then i went ribbon and yarn shopping #i think i found some nice ribbon. 2 cotton and one decorative polyester yarn #and i found some really nice yarn!#im gonna make a shawl from the black/purple yarn and i got some cotton/silk yarn that i think im gonna use to make a thin scarf #i might need more or that tho...#i wanted to get some for another headband but ... i had to control myself #anyways I've got stuff for finishing the presents now #and i got some skincare i really hope it works for me bc I haven't tried this cleanser before #but it's a bit similar to ones i've used and i've tried this brand before it was fine #also got the leave in conditioner i think it'll help me detangle my hair a lot #and i need help with that ..#this was a lot but bc there's the january sales it was ok

My Pretty Housewife Everyday Morning Routine

♡ wake up drink water and brush my teeth

♡ make my husband his morning coffee

♡ make myself a strawberry smoothie or raspberry yogurt and granola

♡ cook breakfast for my husband and feed my cats

♡ make our bed and open the curtains

♡ lay out my husbands work uniform and my pretty outfit for the day

♡ sit chat and cuddle with my husband before he goes to work

♡ stretch my body and meditate

♡ work out and go on my spin bike

♡ shower and then do my full body care and perfume routine

♡ put on my pink slippers pink spa headband and pink silk robe

♡ light a candle play my girly playlist and apply my skincare

♡ do my entire makeup routine

♡ let my hair out of pigtails and comb it gently then apply hair perfume

♡ get dressed into my cute lingerie and a pink dress and apply more perfume

♡ sit in my garden with a green or jasmine tea and my ipad

♡ write in my pink journal listing off everything i have done and my plans for the day

♡ watch desperate housewives, pretty little liars or 90210 and cuddle with my kitty’s and just relax

When it comes to makeup go for the dewy look instead of the matte look because neptunian look sooo good in that and it highlights your features perfectly.
