After nearly 10 years in the community, I have hit this massive number. Thank you all for supporting over the years!
I figured due to this and the Oscars being on today, I figured I would announce the second Sol Film Festival!
For those who were not here when the previous one happened, you take your Pokemon OCs and put them in a scene or movie poster that draws homage to a movie of your choice. I then judge the entries and pick the best of both the writing and the drawn categories.
This year I am upping the ante. The winners of both categories get $100.
Here are some ideas for what you can do.
A recreation of an official poster for a film
A recreation of a poster or DVD cover for a rerelease of a film. For example a Criterion Collection or Arrow covers.
A recreation of a single scene from a film. This can be done via a text post or art.
The Hard Rules
You must use Pokemon OCs only. You can use either a gijinka form or pokemon form, or both depending on your film. However they must be Pokemon OCs in a capacity.
Do not do any of the Pokemon or Digimon films. The reason for this is that since the ‘actors’ we are using are involved in the pokemon universe more or less it would be too easy to do a scene straight up pulling something that is in the Pokemon universe. Digimon is also too close to being similar so I want to cut that off at the pass.
Do not do television movies or movies that are continuations of or are a compressed telling of a TV series. For example Psyche the Movie,FF7 Advent Children, Serenity, El Camino, Full Metal Alchemist Conqueror of Shambala and the Zeta Gundam films are off limits due to fitting that above criteria.
TV show adaptations as a whole are not banned though. As an example, you can do pieces involving films such as In the Loop, the Original or live action Ghost In the Shell, In the Loop, Lupin the First, the Get Smart movie with Steve Carrel, any of the Street Fighter Movies and Final Fantasy Spirited Within are allowed to be homaged as they are not following a continuity.
At the longest, keep it to one scene from a movie if you do the scene recreation. Do not recreate the whole movie from start to end. That would be way too much effort than is required
The length of each submission would have to be, at most, the length of a scene in a movie, or part of a scene if you are drawing. So imagine you are making a storyboard or writing a novelization of a single scene from a movie. Do not adapt the full movie.
You can do a homage rather than a beat by beat recreation. What you choose to do is up to your digression.
Do not just recreate memes. We all laughed at Tommy screaming “I am fed up with dis wurld” and we all remember “Garbage Day”, but if you just try to meme your way through this competition your entry will be disqualified.
Do not implement any characters from askbohemiancompany or omnipokemonproducts. While I would respect my characters having cameos in any capacity usually, I don’t want it to come off like that is the best way to influence who wins. So do not implement them in any capacity in your projects.
If you entered last time, do not resubmit the same piece you did last time. You have to make another one. You can still do the same movie however.
Some Other Helpful Facts
In case you need help with picking film you can feel free to reach out to me and I can help you find some options based off your taste and what platforms are at your disposal.
If you cannot be sent the money I am willing to pay for a commission on the winner’s behalf.
Try to pick films that are not blockbusters. This is not regarding films that are popular, more so stuff like Fast and the Furious, MCU etc. I won’t disregard these types of entries but I want this to be a chance for people to discover new films. It’s just like the Oscars!
If I like your post that means I have seen it. I will not comment any further and if you want me to reblog it and write my thoughts on it after the deadline let me know.
The deadline for all Submissions is June 12th. Please tag all submissions SolFilmFestival2023 so I can keep track of the submissions.
Reblogs are appreciated!

I know it's a long shot cos I have like 200 followers or whatever but I have to share it everywhere I can. This guy is a dear friend of mine and just generally one of the funniest and loveliest people I've ever known. If you're in the London or Northamptonshire area and you've seen him or have any information please don't hesitate to share it. His family and friends are worried sick and I'm just desperate to get the word out any way I can.
He went missing around 4am on the 26th of August at shambala festival in Northamptonshire. Description and more info in the articles. Thanks

PIGEON WIGS NEW MINI-ALBUM 'ROCK BY NUMBERS'
Cardiff’s PIGEON WIGS release their eagerly awaited mini-album ‘Rock By Numbers’.
An amorphous box of tricks that shape-shifts between psych, blues and indie rock with seamless time-warping chic, the quintet are also pleased to present one of its standout moments: “Iron Dynamite”.
The final track to be spotlighted from the record, “Iron Dynamite” is a whimsical, merry-go-round of 60s-indebted psychelia to rival the Electric Prunes, Strawberry Alarm Clock, or frankly anything to be heard on the seminal ‘Nuggets’ compilation.
Revolving around a guitar lick as slick as a new pair of winkle-pickers on Carnaby Street in 1967, the riff was conjured by the band’s Louis Jugessur as he tried to emulate the vintage grooves of the hit ‘Mama Told Me Not To Come’ by fellow Pontypridd legend Tom Jones. Instantly plugging-in to its psychedelic vibe, frontman Harry Franklin-Williams assembled a kaleidoscopic spiral of words at once in-tune with the track and just a little removed from reality... As Harry explains:“Iron Dynamite is probably my favourite song of the record lyrically, Louis wrote such a psychedelic riff and I wanted to build on that as much as I could. I made a Jenga tower out of 60s-inspired metaphors and muso-nerd references that still never fails to put a smile on my face. The verses are swirling psych with a portion of madness while the chorus is much more your classic 60s pop lyrics, simple and direct but with my trademark cynicism at the end, “it’s just another line”.”
“Iron Dynamite” arrives hot on the heels of recent singles including the Rolling Stones saluting “Radiation Blues” and the wormhole whirlwind that is “Hold Up!”; drawing attention from the likes of Louder Than War, The Independent, The Rodeo, and The Line of Best Fit, with the latter praising “[Pigeon Wigs are] now in full force in bringing their vision to life: a hybrid, retro/futuristic, psychedelic-shaded sound.”
These singles are just the tip of a knickerbocker glory of delights waiting to be scooped out of their first mini-album release ‘Rock By Numbers’ (out today, via Clwb Music). Recorded before Pigeon Wigs had played a single gig, the duo of Jugessur and Franklin-Williams wrote the mini-album over the course of just a few weeks. Making for an impressively accomplished debut release that spans alternative rock references from across the ages, the band say they just wanted to “arrive on the scene fully-formed, like a baby with a moustache or furniture not from IKEA”. The 11-track record was produced and mixed by the esteemed Tom Rees of fellow Cardiff band Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard.
Speaking about the mini-album on the day of its release, the band’s axeman-in-chief Louis Jugessur expresses:
“It means a lot to release Rock By Numbers because it’s been in the pipeline for so long, we’ve had so many hurdles in the way but now it’s finally getting out there. I’m really proud of what we’ve written, it feels like one solid body of work where all the pieces fit together to paint a pretty lil picture”.
While frontman Harry Franklin-Williams adds:
“Through a series of funding delays, rescheduling meetings, and global catastrophe we have waded, to be coming out on the other side is akin to drinking fresh water after being lost in the desert or that moment you realise both nostrils are clear after an especially bad cold. This is only the beginning, you ain't seen nothing yet."
PIGEON WIGS - UK LIVE DATES
AUGUST
05/08/23 - Newport, Le Pub headline
17/08/23 - Green Man Festival
25/08/23 - Shambala Festival
Newly sprung from the fertile soil of Cardiff’s blossoming music scene, Pigeon Wigs are a five-piece alt-rock band whose riff-laden fuzzy tones and melodic harmonies come crashing together to form a wild beast like no other. Tackling everything from social commentary to dysfunctional relationships and alien abductions, the band was born out of a writing partnership between Harry Franklin-Williams and Louis Jugessur and came to life when the pair “corralled some of Cardiff’s finest to record a new project”.
Having already attracted glowing praise from the likes of BBC Introducing and BBC Radio Wales, Pigeon Wigs have gained glowing reviews from a range of alt-rock contemporaries such as Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard and Panic Shack who enthused: “all of Jagger’s love-children couldn’t write a better banger than this.”

How I Learned That My Pain is Valid and Worthy of My Own Empathy and Love
“Sit with it. Sit with it. Sit with it. Sit with it. Even though you want to run. Even when it’s heavy and difficult. Even though you’re not quite sure of the way through. Healing happens by feeling.” ~Dr. Rebecca Ray It’s July 2022 and I’m in the middle of a red tent at Shambala Music Festival in British Columbia. I sit elbow to elbow, knee to knee, heart to heart with a group of women who I am…

Promoting/place
We will be promoting our brand through our website, Instagram and pop-up shops that are child-friendly festivals an example of this could be camp festivals, car fests and Shambala. We decided as we thought that many adults take their children to festivals during the summertime. We decided to use social because social media is a huge way to reach a large audience, especially millennial parents who are the new generation of parents. Through our Instagram, we can show our new products and announce upcoming collections. In our Instagram bio, we can put the link to our website in which customers can find the website easily furthermore by having a website they cannot worry about going out to a store that may not be local to them they can purchase in the comfort of their own home.

Place and Promotion
Place
Tumblr media
Here is the website home page that I made to show how our brand would present our selves online. I included easy to access tabs at the top so it's easy to navigate the website, and some quick links across the bottom. I added the logo, and used our colour palette across the page so our theme is consistent. I added our email and links to social media at the top so customers have quick links to our social media or email if they want to contact us. Our website will be our main place to buy our products but we are also planning to sell at pop up stores as well as car festivals such as Camp Festival, Car Fest and Shambala.
Promotion
Tumblr media
We will be using Instagram advertising where will we show our products and new collections to parents to get them interested in our brand. We are going to hold promotions such as a lucky dip where people can tag a friend or share our page and they will be interested to win a voucher to get some money off our products. Our website will have an incentive to sign up to newsletter for 10% off so customers will be emailed regularly with our latest products and collections, all while getting money off their first order. Our events at the car festivals will also act as a method of promotion as many parents bring their children to the events and will see our stall and want to get involved with designing their own clothes with our cool patches. More parents will also be introduced to our brand through these events and get to look and feel at our products and understand the customisation process. If the parents and children are happy with their purchase or even just interested in our products they are likely to tell their parent friends and recommend our brand so we will get some promotion via word of mouth. We will also give out brochures with our email, website and social medias so the customers have a reference of where they can find us once they get home.
