Ackerman brought the issue before the Rutgers Student Bar Association (SBA), a student government body of which Ackerman was a member. However, he was accused of racism and subjected on Oct. 26 to what the lawsuit describes as a three-hour “struggle session” in which his SBA law school colleagues pelted him with insults.
“During this meeting, several students whom Mr. Ackerman had never interacted with before testified against him,” said the complaint, filed in the Superior Court of New Jersey in Essex County. “For example, law student JM, targeted, discriminated, bullied, harassed, and retaliated against Mr. Ackerman. She falsely accused Mr. Ackerman of threatening to dox her and other students — without any evidence. JM moved to impeach Ackerman from the SBA, and to intimidate Mr. Ackerman and other Jewish students.”
“The Rutgers SBA and JM were seeking to chill the speech of Ackerman — as a Jewish person,” the complaint continues. “The content and tone of the SBA hearing were designed or allowed to air antisemitic bias with the intent of discriminating, threatening, harassing, and bullying Jewish law students, including Mr. Ackerman.”
The complaint summarizes in detail Ackerman’s attempts to file formal complaints about the video and the treatment he received, focusing on the conduct of Katherine Perez, an assistant dean in the law school whom the suit names as a defendant. It charges that Perez never watched the video about which Ackerman complained and, in retaliation, charged him with defamation and disorderly conduct. Later, Perez told Ackerman that a complaint he had filed lacked merit and would not be investigated.
Ackerman’s attorneys said in a press release that he will on Thursday attend a final disciplinary hearing that will determine whether he is expelled from school.
“In sum, Rutgers plans to hold this ‘kangaroo court’ in which they refuse to permit Ackerman to be represented by counsel (who cannot speak or otherwise advocate on Mr. Ackerman’s behalf), and have failed to advise him of the witnesses who will testify against him, and which ostensibly will be presided over by the very person who initiated and brought the charges, against him,” the suit says.
The Algemeiner has reached out to Rutgers to confirm the details concerning the hearing on Thursday.
Ackerman additionally alleges the ordeal he experienced has caused medical complications, and he is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.
“It is time to speak out,” Ackerman said on Tuesday during a press conference. “Just five days after the largest attack and attempt at genocide against the Jewish people since the Holocaust, one of my peers shared a video that was highly offensive and in my opinion antisemitic … What has resulted since is nothing more than an attempt by Rutgers and other students to silence my right to speak out against antisemitism. I will not be silent in the face of hatred towards Jews.

Krispy Pizza - College Ave in New Brunswick, NJ
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Krispy Pizza is supposedly a "go-to" pizza spot of sorts in New Brunswick. I had seen some incredible looking pictures of their slices online and it's been on my list to check out for a few months now. I've passed before because normally when I'm in town I go to Wings Over for arguably the best wings I've ever had in the Tri-State area. HOWEVER they were closed that day and since I still had some time to kill I figured it was time to try Krispy.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, it seems like Krispy is all hype and no substance. They had some really unique options including the two I got: a Fat Krispy (essentially a fat sandwich in pizza form) and a sicilian pepperoni vodka with hot honey on top. Unfortunately, the uniqueness ended up being their downfall as the amount of competing flavors on each slice pretty much ruined them. The Fat Krispy had the same problem as a fat sandwich where all the flavors blend together and you don't really taste anything. The pepperoni had kind of the opposite effect where you taste a little too much of everything. It was hot from the honey but also creamy from the vodka and honestly it made me feel kind of nauseous. On top of all that, these slices are just too expensive for that kind of mediocrity. I paid close to $10 for two VERY mid slices of pizza. If I ever find myself in the area again I might try a plain, but I am in no rush to go back. There is much better (and cheaper) pizza elsewhere in New Brunswick.

Favourite moments of the 2023 NCAA gymnastics season:
Rutgers senior Hannah Joyner scores 9.925 on beam and 9.900 on bars on her way to scoring a 39.525 in the all-around. This marks a new school record in the all-around, surpassing Luisa Leal’s 39.500 set in 2013.

Rutgers has become the latest university to suspend its Students for Justice in Palestine chapter. “You allegedly have had multiple cases of disrupting classes, a program, meals, and students studying,” associate Dean of Students Michelle Jefferson told the group in a letter. She also says [there] was alleged vandalism at the business school. In a statement, Rutgers SJP accused the school of implementing a double standard against the group, citing anti-Palestinian sentiment on campus. “While the Rutgers Administration suspended our SJP over nebulous and unsubstantiated complaints, they have yet to conduct an investigation regarding Rutgers Chabad’s threatening post with an SJP protest in the background that labels us, students that attend Rutgers, as ‘children of darkness,’ captioned with the words ‘STRAPPED. ARMED. LOCKED AND LOADED’,” the organization explained. “This is one of many examples that lacks adequate response to incidents that have made Palestinian students feel unsafe and threatened. Meanwhile, mere accusations against our free speech rights have led to arbitrary suspension. “Rutgers University has also failed to support the Palestinian and Muslim-presenting students on campus that have submitted bias reports of the constant harassments and attacks they have faced since October 7th,” they continued. “This includes the Palestinian student who submitted a report against a Professor who cornered and began to record them in response to a coordinated walk out protesting an event – which the Palestinian student took no part in. The Professor subsequently accused SJP of disrupting the event, though it played no role in the incident. For all we know, we could be suspended based partially on this false accusation.” Rutgers Academic Freedom Committee also put out a statement condemning the move, calling on the administration to reverse course. “The suspension of Students for Justice in Palestine arbitrarily silences the voices of many students and is redolent of the McCarthyism of the 20th century,” it reads. Less than a week before the announcement Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) tried to shut down a panel on Palestine featuring Noura Erakat, Nick Estes, and Marc Lamont Hill. “While differing views are a critical part of building cultural understanding, they cannot provide a bully pulpit for those who seek to divide others and spew hate,” said the congressman in a statement. “The first amendment does not give students the right to bully, intimidate, and instill fear onto other students.”
-- From "The Shift: Rutgers suspends SJP chapter" by Michael Arria, 14 Dec 2023
SJP Rutgers' response is linked above and can also be read here. They have been sharing messages of solidarity from other on-campus organizations, such as Rutgers Together Not Alone and Rutgers Central Asian Student Organization, on their instagram.

illicit affairs au
character introductions + moodboards
concept: loosely based on illicit affairs by taylor swift
couple: sadie mercer x jack hughes
warnings: mention of covid-19
summary: sadie's life growing up with her 3 siblings and how she ended up at rutgers university :)
lowercase intended
background
hockey flowed through the entire mercer family as sadie's dad, craig mercer, coached hockey. dawson, the eldest child, of course loves hockey and would play in the qmjhl and then the nhl. sadie's younger brother riley, also loves hockey and plays in the qmjhl. jessica, the youngest mercer child, followed in her brothers footsteps of playing hockey, but she also enjoyed playing volleyball at school. so it was a shocker to everyone that the second mercer kid wouldn't play hockey.
sadie mercer liked to skate and play around with her siblings growing up on frozen ponds throughout their small town of carbonear, newfoundland. but she never felt the same connection as they did to the sport of hockey. all throughout elementary school, sadie went around trying to find the sport she would love as much as her siblings loved hockey. she tried soccer, softball, volleyball, and all of the other sports canada had to offer, but nothing clicked for her. sadie would try out for a team, make it, play about 3 weeks and then have the same conversation with her mom,
"it's just boring, i don't want to play anymore"
her family was supportive of her decisions to find the sport she loved, but she eventually was reaching the end of her possible sports list. somehow, sadie was able to drag her dawson with her to a swim team tryout over the summer.
"i don't see why i have to go with you, you're only going to swim for 2 weeks and then you'll be on your way to tryout for some other sport"
"i swear this is the last one, i feel it in my bones"
dawson only swam for a season with her, but ever since that tryout in the summer of 2011, sadie mercer was hooked on the pool.
when dawson was drafted in the 2020 draft first round by the new jersey devils, the whole family had never been so excited. honestly, the whole town of carbonear, newfoundland had never been so excited, and sadie was over the moon that her brother would be going to new jersey. dawson had already left newfoundland back in 2017 to play in the qmjhl, while sadie stayed in newfoundland throughout highschool with her other two siblings, riley and jessica. after sadie graduated, riley went to play in the q as well for the 2020-21 season. and as much as sadie loved her little sister and her parents, she wanted to branch out from newfoundland like her brothers and go somewhere else for university.
when sadie had the opportunity to talk to universities in the united states to be recruited to swim in college, she took it straight away. sadie was so excited that she was noticed by a university for swimming and her dreams were coming true. as much as she loved canada and newfoundland, the united states was the dream and swimming division 1 was it for her. when rutgers university reached out to sadie during fall of her senior year, she was on cloud 9. until covid-19 hit the world. of course, the whole world was affected but as an athlete, the pandemic hit hard. with all the new rules in place, if sadie went to rutgers, it would be almost impossible for her to come home periodically and constantly quarentine. so, sadie decided she would take the 2020-21 fall and spring semesters online from the safety of her family home in canada, but in doing this, she wouldn't be able to swim until her sophomore year at rutgers.
this leads to sadie and dawson taking on new jersey together in 2021, and where sadie mercer and jack hughes' story begins..
moving to jersey

we got food from this place called Fritz's restaurant in new Brunswick NJ for lunch today and just, holy ahit the food was amazing. i got the general tso's chicken sandwich, and while it didn't have too much tso's sauce, the chicken itself is out of this world. and that's coming from someone who usually doesn't like just chicken. my mom got the pulled pork sandwich, which she loves, although they forgot her side of garlic aioli and coleslaw, but we got it via doordash. my grandma got the french onion soup, and the chicken tenders. the tender were great, but the soup left a bit to be desired, though that's probably because we got delivery. now onto the things we shared. we got the risotto fritters, which were good, but not this life changing experience other reviews made them out to be. now, on the other end, was those truffle fries. hoo boy, I've been wanting to try truffle for a long while, and they did not disappoint. those truffle fries are easily the best french fries I've had in my life, period. and the nutella iced coffee was really good too.
my final conclusion is while we had a few issues, they could be chocked up to delivery issues rather than any problems with fritz's as a whole. 4.8/5 stars, will be getting from there many times to come.
