#Reno Arch

The story of the three Reno arches fascinates me--there’s the original, which is now a few blocks over from its original location after finally being restored back in the 90s, then there was a second arch (pictured in this post) from the mid-60s to the mid-80s that looked like this and now serves as the gateway to the California Redwoods, and above is the current arch that dates back to 1987.
As a lover of neon, I adore it: I love the bright pink of the lettering, and the star design they kept from the second iteration, and it looks so delightfully 80s in its aesthetic. As I’ve been doing some more research on the history of the arches, however, I get a little bummed out by seeing how much surrounding neon lights have gone away from around the arch--take the lead photo, taken 20 years ago, in this article as an example. How I wish that rainbow bridge was still a thing, because even though I don’t like bridges, I would have walked on that one with abandon.

This 1889 home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is the consummate Gothic Victorian. A lot of the decor is uniquely DIY, which makes it interesting, to say the least. 3bds, 3ba, $439,900.
Tumblr media
The original doors in the entrance hall were given a couple of coats of shiny black paint.
Tumblr media
The stairs were trimmed in gray and it looks like they stripped and refinished the railings.
Tumblr media
This reception room has an original fireplace and pocket doors.
Tumblr media
I can't say that the built-in cabinet it original, b/c it's a very different style. It looks like an old farm piece and the owners used a crackle paint finish to make it look chippy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This middle room is 2 stories high, has a balcony, and the owners added some architectural salvage molding pieces. It also appears that the stone on the corner fireplace was replaced.
Tumblr media
This is the ceiling in the room.
Tumblr media
Old pocket doors missing hardware were given a distressed finish and the dining room ceiling is like a bronze/brown.
Tumblr media
The kitchen reno is completely DIY, made with architectural salvage pieces.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at all the things.
Tumblr media
It's very creative and look at how they fit the ovens into that green piece.
Tumblr media
In the powder room they found a very different style door to fit the pocket.
Tumblr media
On the 2nd floor, I'm not sure if this open room is supposed to be a bedroom, but it does look like one.
Tumblr media
The hole in the ceiling exposing the window above may be the result of a new ceiling. That gives it a very unique feature.
Tumblr media
There's a washer/dryer up here, and a kitchenette unit. Notice all the ceiling light fixtures.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like the color scheme of this bedroom and the wall was taken down to make an open en-suite.
Tumblr media
Interesting arched ceiling in the bath and that's some piece they chose for the sink.
Tumblr media
So much in this home has been reconfigured. You can tell that the walls are new. So, this is the turret.
Tumblr media
At the base of the rear stairs there's a newly configured nook.
Tumblr media
This open room has been turned into a bath with a sauna.
Tumblr media
This is quite the large bath.
Tumblr media
It actually looks like most of the attic is bathroom.
Tumblr media
At first glance I thought that this was a hot tub, but it appears to be some sort of platform or stage.
Tumblr media
The basement's very big, has some creepy-ish gray stone walls, and lots of fun potential.
Tumblr media
The exterior gothic architecture on this house is stunning.
Tumblr media
The yard is fenced, but it needs landscaping. 4,791 sq. ft. lot

GAZ FUCKING BORED HOUSEWIVES GHOUL YOURE SO SMART
It's just that someone has to be home while the carpenter is working so you can let him in! It's not anything more than that, you just don't want to have to give him a key. Nothing to do with the fact that when you wander by in your little silk robe Gaz's eyes cling to you the same way the fabric does. Certainly you're not staying home because when Gaz leans heavy against his workbench to inspect the plans for your new kitchen island it makes his biceps flex and you know he knows you're staring because he smiles to himself when he tucks his pencil back behind his ear. You wouldn't happen to be calling off work, or telling your boss you'll be covering things from home today because it means you can ask Gaz if he wants anything extra for working so hard, and his eyes will rest heavy on your chest, on your hips, before he tells you, "can think of one or two things."
I mean, if you wanted to get fucked over your new marble countertops you could've gone on a date, not hired someone to re-do your kitchen. Except you're pretty sure you've never had a date fuck you so hard, never had a date grab your hair and arch your back to drive their cock deeper into you, murmuring in your ear what a good little whore you are offering yourself up to him, he didn't even have to ask did he? No you would've been on your knees for him all day if he wasn't being paid to fix up your house, although with how tight you're clenching on him, he's willing to knock a couple bucks off your estimate. Just push your hips back a little harder sweetheart, that's it, fuck yourself back on his cock and show him how bad you want that discount. This reno will take a good few weeks, and he's got plenty of time to waste on you.

Part fifty-six of Shizuroth, aka, the SOLDIER General's Self Saving Shizun.
Ao3 link.
Previous parts: forty-seven forty-eight, forty-nine, fifty, fifty-one, fifty-two, fifty-three, fifty-four, fifty-five
-
Sephiroth knows he's on borrowed time. He bought it, accidentally, with his Qi-deviation… but it's been well over a week since then, without any other deviations. Instead he has had other more interesting developments… and the timer never stopped ticking.
For over a week he's been fine - for over a week he's been doing… pretty much nothing but training. Which in PIDW wouldn't have been a big deal - things happened slower, developments took time, everyone went into seclusion every now and then, and it was fine. When your life revolves around cultivation, haste is an enemy. Cultivation takes decades - sometimes centuries! You need to take your time with it! Months upon months had passed Shen Qingqiu by without him doing anything but laying and reading, and it had been great!
But he's in a sci-fi fantasy dystopia, in the middle of a war, and he's the Big Bad super SOLDIER hybrid. Something the world seems keen to remind him.
"Tseng of the Turks," his new guard introduces himself in the front of the charcoal burner's house. "I will be taking over for Reno and Rude."
Sephiroth can almost see a clock behind Tseng, ticking down to a deadline. He's just as sharply handsome as the game art made him seem - and even less flexible. Everything about him from his posture up his clothing to the precise lack of expression screams you're wasting the company's time, and mine.
"I know who you are," Sephiroth says, setting his face carefully blank as the vibes around the house just about plummet. "To think I rate such a high level watchman."
"Your wellbeing is of the highest priority to the company," Tseng agrees. "I'm here to ensure your recovery goes by smoothly so that you can return to your duties promptly."
Arching a brow, Sephiroth folds his arms. Well, isn't that a corporate speech if he's ever heard it. "I'm honoured," he says. "Though I thought the highest priority for me was to, what was it… stay here and get my shit together?"
Tseng's expression doesn't even twitch. "According to Reno's and Rude's reports, your shit seems to be held together remarkably well."
… oh? Smiling a little, Sephiroth looks Tseng up and down. "You'd think so, hm?"
Tseng is quiet for a moment before clasping his hands behind his back. "We shall see. For now, you should act as though nothing has changed. Pretend I'm not even here. I won't disturb your training."
"I don't think I can," Sephiroth muses, testing the waters. "Your very presence is disturbing."
Not even a twitch of an eye lash. "Are you disturbed now?"
Oh, what a bitch! Sephiroth likes him already. "I guess we shall see, at that. Now, where is Angeal?" he glances around, even though he knows Angeal didn't come back with Tseng.
"On a mission, I presume," Tseng says, and Sephiroth casts him a sharp look. Tseng faces him blandly. "Judging by the reports, his presence here was largely unnecessary to your progress. It is an inefficient use of company resources to have two First Class SOLDIERs indefinitely off the clock. He is taking up your missions here in Wutai."
Sephiroth can feel his own expression growing blank. "I didn't agree to that."
"It was assumed you didn't mind," Tseng says calmly. "Seeing as you didn't seem interested in completing your missions yourself, they were simply passed down the chain. To Angeal."
"It would've been nice to have been consulted on that," Sephiroth says firmly.
"Would you have taken on the missions if you'd known?" Tseng asks with the slightest arch of his brows. "Because unless you would have, your opinion had no bearing on the matter going forward. "
… Okay, ouch. "I see," Sephiroth says, his voice growing low. "Will Angeal be returning here once he's done?"
Tseng blinks at him, slowly. "This location isn't near any of the current points of interest in Wutai. That's why it was selected for your use. It's much more practical for Angeal to stay in the town."
Ah. Well, well, if it isn't those company shackles he'd been happily ignoring. Damn. "... So it's just you and me here, huh?" Sephiroth asks unhappily.
"Only until you feel fit to return to taking on missions," Tseng says and then asks, pointedly, "Do you have an estimate on how much longer will your cultivation training take?"
Sephiroth looks at him closely, but it's hard to say what Tseng thinks - or what he knows. The man just looks at him coolly, expectantly. "I suppose that's another thing we will have to see, isn't it?" Sephiroth answers, just to be contrary. "Alright - do you need help finding a room, Tseng of the Turks?"
Tseng considers him for an uncomfortably long time and then says, "I think I can manage. I will set up in the room vacated by Reno, unless you have objections."
"Be my guest," Sephiroth says and then watches as the man heads inside. Then he looks out to the yard - to the training field Angeal had cleared out for him.
It doesn't seem quite as comfortable as before, all of a sudden.
Of course their stay here was always going to be temporary, and Sephiroth hadn't exactly expected them to leave together. It's just that… he'd figured he'd be leaving first, to parts unknown, maybe with Angeal, but probably not. Angeal is still too loyal to the company - honestly, and he might very well stay loyal until the degradation would begin. Which is… something Sephiroth still hadn't figured out a solution for. Beyond a regular Qi-transfer, maybe.
Shit. He'd procrastinated too long, hadn't he? He'd gotten complacent. He always gets complacent.
Now the matter of Genesis and Angeal might be out of his hands. The company is isolating him, for whatever reason, he doesn't even care. It's manipulation, either way. Now Angeal is out there, maybe killing people in his stead, and Sephiroth has no say in the matter. And Sephiroth is alone with no friends to lean on, as the head Turk in command begins prodding him for results.
Great. Wonderful. Such fun.
Closing his eyes briefly, Sephiroth sighs and then looks up at the darkening night sky.
Tick-tock, goes the clock, as time starts running out.

Personal favorite hc of mine is Veld kept a jasmin plant in his office and now Tseng has it and Reno isn't allowed within a 10ft radius of it
Tseng goes away on a mission and Reno takes the opportunity to touch the plant. Somehow half the leaves fall off. Reno doesn't know how. Cut to him banging on Angeal's door at 3 AM.
Reno: DUDE! YOU GOTTA HELP ME! I KILLED TSENG'S PLANT!
Angeal takes the plant, looks at the dead leaves, then at Reno and arches a single eyebrow.
Angeal: Yeah, you did.
Reno: Oh, man!
Angeal: Which takes talent, considering that's it's made of plastic.

House warming present for Rainy, for once the reno is done
She knows why.
Tumblr media
🌝 I fucking love this so much. can you imagine for a moment?
Before you even see it, you hear a bag crinkling—eyes narrowing at him as he slides into the room, back perfectly facing away from you.
“What’s behind your back, Morales?”
His lips pursing, slowly spreading into a smirk. “A gift.”
“A gift?”
“An office warming present.”
Licking your lips and folding your arms, you arch your brow. A signal in itself that forces him to take three steps closer, shifting his weight onto his toes and then onto the balls of his feet.
“Frankie—“
“Baby.”
Trying not to smirk, your nostrils flare as you sigh. Watching as he slowly slides the bag around to his front, offering it to you. A thing you take without question as you flick your eyes up at him once more, before you open it.
“Oh my fucking—“
“Awful, right?”
Eyes wide, mouth stretched out into a grin. “This might be the best gift I’ve ever been given me.”
“Wait, you’re serious?”
Nodding, you pull the bag close to your chest. “I’m gonna name them.”
“Rainy, no—“
“One is definitely being called Cisco…”

Day twenty-one: One community lot and four businesses ready to be run!
All the lots are CC-free... except one, which only uses two pieces of CC which have good odds for already being in your game.
WARNING!! This is a LONG post with a lot of pictures underneath, but I figured it was better than splitting the post up - just be warned!
These old lots are from a new BaCC-style challenge I started developing a while ago but decided to reboot from the ground up with a better approach. Some of the lots were cool, though, so I refined them into the gift you see today.
First up is Seven Sisters Fine Foods, a very large community lot primed to be an owned business based on the architecture of my home town of Adelaide. This is the lot that contains CC - the Maxis Lost & Found plumbob arch, and frillen’s Invisible Tiles, in order to create the arched walkway you seee in the preview photos above. Both files are included in the download.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As an owned business, the intent is for your Sims to sell Seasons produce and fish they have grown and caught themselves, along with restockable grocery bins and some kitchen appliances. There is a staff area on the second floor of the greengrocer’s side, and space for packing stations there and next to the fishmonger’s if you play with them (not included).
There’s already a little garden area for Sims to grow produce, and you could easily add a pond on the opposite side if you want to employ Sims to fish. This lot is built with a rowhouse effect - so that if you know how to use the Lot Adjuster, you can have other lots appear “attached” on either side - but simply delete these extra walls/bushes if you don’t need them.
Tumblr media
The second lot is Rosé Bistro and KISS@TEN Cafe, inspired (obviously) by a TS3 rabbit hole that functions as a restaurant. I hate running restaurants so this is the only lot not primed to be run as a business, haha, but you probably could if you’re a masochist! The lot is primed to accommodate toddlers if you have mods that let you take them to community lots.
The first two floors are one restaurant, with a casual family dining area downstairs and then a fancier dining area suitable for celebrations and functions on the second floor. Of course, Sims will sit wherever they please.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The top floor is KISS@10, a little coffeeshop (and... magazine seller) based on Japanese cafes. If you did want to run this as a restaurant, then this would be a good place to sell takeaway or deco food. Sims should not trek up here to sit and order food as none of the chairs/tables/counters work together.
Tumblr media
You can see below this lot is built for the side street to either back onto another road or lot, but you can simply close it off with a fence behind the stairs as necessary.
Tumblr media
The third lot is the Dewitt Yuself Hardware Store, based on the kind of place we would call Bunning’s here and I guess... Home Depot? In the states? One of those big comforting home reno & garden centres dads love. This was an interesting exploration of the kind of business a Sim could run without CC, and your shop stock ends up being a mixture of fixtures, Build Mode objects, and some garden supplies. There are two checkouts, and an employee area upstairs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And lastly, you get two more business presented as one, because they’re designed to look like two halves of the same building; Tiny Smiles Daycare Centre and The Stretched Canvas, an art/art supplies store.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The daycare centre sells toddler supplies as well as tickets, even though by default most of the clients will probably be adults. You could probably try and run it as an actual school/daycare if you use the appropriate mods.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As usual, there is an employee area upstairs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The art store sells supplies on the ground floor and has an empty gallery on the second floor as well as a maker’s space. You could either sell tickets and charge people to view the art and take art lessons, or you could sell the art itself; either sculptures and paintings your Sims have made, or regular decorations from the catalogue. I won’t tell anyone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s a bit boring, if I’m honest, but I included it for convenience to attach to the daycare - if you’d like to turn this into a different business or community lot, just use the Clean Installer to install it without any furniture. There is a pretty convenient employee area/living quarters in the back.
Tumblr media
Thank you for scrolling this far! All lots have been cleaned with the Lot Cleaner as well as tidied from any Sim references in SimPE.

Scenes from an afternoon walk in downtown Reno.
The Reno Arch shown here was the original arch from 1926, and was relocated to Lake Street in the mid-90s after the public asked for it to return from storage. In 1963 they installed a new arch in honor of the city’s 100th birthday, and it honestly looked like it was pretty badass. That arch has since moved to Willits, California, though without those bad-ass panels that look amazing.

Hello hi! Where is Luca living now while at uni? Is it a dormitory (like drake Hall) or an apartment? Its gorgeous!! I always find university so hard to play through because the dorms are so annoying to decorate, you know the big ones :(
hello friend! thank you! he's living in a dorm room in britechester. i usually use whatever is in the save i'm playing in but bc the ultimate save doesn't seem to have britechester decorated almost at all, i replaced most of the lots & i'm currently playing in the drake hall reno by mikkimur on the gallery.
as for decorating, i know what you mean lmao so i usually just stick to decorating the room my sim is gonna be living in and leaving the rest mainly or completely untouched. i almost never play university on campus (because it's boring to have to manage a single sim who's just studying 99% of the time lmfao) so i don't really see any reason to build an entire dorm w/ how particular i am with cluttering stuff lol
to answer the other question about the layout (since i'm assuming it's from the same person), it's just the 2 rooms in mikkimur's reno glued together with an arch, mostly bc taking screenshots in a single tiny room gets repetitive, Fast (and bc a roommate is just more fun). here's a top down view of what it looks like in my game:

She Ain’t Gotta Do Much - 2
Kristanna Modern AU Rated: M WC: 3032
Chapter Index
---------------------
The first day on the job was usually a clusterfuck.  Especially with office reno’s.  Most of the time the clients were never fully moved out of the work area – more like shifted out of the way – leaving him and Sven tripping over employees while they tried to get their work done because more often than not, they couldn’t just shut everything down while the reno’s took place. Which was why Kristoff was almost flabbergasted to walk into the completely empty space.  The furniture was even stacked in the middle of the floor where the cubicles had been.
“Okay, I figure we’ll start demo on the big offices at the back, then… what, what’s with the face?”
“Huh?”  Kristoff realized he’d stopped mid stride.
Sven blinked at him. “Dammit, Kris.  I knew you weren’t paying attention!  What the fuck?!  You better not have fucked up that quote.”
His brow furrowed. “I absolutely didn’t fuck that up.”
“Well, you were clearly somewhere else when she told us she was moving the whole team the next floor up with CEO’s and all that shit while we demo and frame.”
Had she said that? Now that he thought about it, it did sound vaguely familiar.   That was why they were under such a tight deadline to get to the finishing stages.
Sven let out a slow exhale, looking at the ceiling, then back at him.  “What is with you lately?”
“Nothing.”  Kristoff trudged past him. “Let’s get to work.”
-----
It was a long day.  An excruciatingly long day.
By the end of it, Kristoff’s arms were weary from slinging a sledgehammer and working the Sawzall, even though he did it regularly.   They were too high up to throw the construction waste down through a shoot to a bin.  All of it needed to be hauled down the service elevator which meant multiple trips down to the bin in the alley with a large wheeled tub.  Sven took the liberty of making those runs all day, leaving Kristoff with the heavy tools.
When Sven took the last load down it was two hours after they had planned to quit for the day. Kristoff was exhausted, sweat dripped down the sides of his face as he guzzled from his water bottle.
“Didn’t expect you guys to be here so late.”
Kristoff choked on his water, thoroughly surprised.  He hadn’t heard her walk up to him.
“Sorry, sorry.”  She chuckled, smiling her hands up in an innocent gesture.  “Didn’t mean to sneak up on you.”
“It’s okay,” he offered, composing himself.  “Just startled me, that’s all.”
“Looks like you guys worked really hard.  I’m impressed.”
Kristoff knew he looked a sight.  He was absolutely covered in drywall dust, dirt and sweat.  Part of him might have cared if he wasn’t so damn tired.
She was a vision of course. Hair done up professionally, smart suit with a white blouse and sensible black heels.  Makeup that only accentuated her natural beauty, no flashy jewellery, just some small hoop earrings and a nice watch.
“Thank you,” he replied, as Sven came back into the room with the bin.
“Ah, Boss Lady.  Hope your day was good.”
She rolled her eyes at him. “Lady?  Really?”
Sven made a grand gesture of bowing.  “Apologies, Boss.  Won’t happen again.”
Her eyebrow arched delicately as she smiled.   Clearly, she was comfortable with the humour.   “You two are quitting for the day now, I hope?”
Sven smiled.  “Yes, these two grunts are all done for today, Boss.”
This was why Sven was the one to deal with clients.  He was so quick with witty banter.  Kristoff was not.  Most of the things that came out of his mouth were straightforward and to the point, which was often mistaken for being rude.  He’d been told on more than one occasion that he had a gruff demeanor.   Only the people who knew him well, knew that that wasn’t true.
Anna said, “Well, I appreciate you working with our tight schedule.   I’ll be checking in with you quite a bit these next four weeks if that isn’t too much of an issue?”
“Of course not, Boss,” Sven answered.  “I would expect you are under a certain amount of pressure to get back to your own office space and out of the big wigs upstairs.”
Anna laughed and it sounded like a melody.  Kristoff found himself smiling.
“You have no idea,” she said.  “Have a good night, gentleman.  Stop by upstairs tomorrow before you start for some coffee and pastries.”
“Will do, Boss.  Thank you.”  Sven made a gesture of bowing again, which she giggled at.
“Thank you,” Kristoff added feebly, suddenly mad that he didn’t have the charm that Sven did.
~   ~   ~   ~   ~
If he thought the lobby a floor down was sleek and modern, the only way to describe the one he’d just entered, was opulent.  The same company logo adorned the front of the massive receptionist’s desk that four people sat behind.  The one on the end closest to the floor to ceiling mahogany doors to the inner offices was the blonde woman who normally worked on Anna’s floor.  As soon as she saw him her face lit up.
Ah shit, not now…
She was all eyes when they had come back to sign the contracts after they agreed to the price, looking him up and down several times, and not being subtle about it either. After their business with the Boss was finished, she’d bid them a farewell at the elevators being as flirty as humanly possible with him, and telling them to come fetch her if there was anything that they needed.
“Good morning, Sven. Good morning, Kris!”
Sven shot him a look. Kristoff’s greeting was much more enthusiastic.
“Miss Arendelle mentioned you two might be coming up this morning for some coffee.  Let me show you to the break room.”
They followed without a word, passing suit after suit.  Most of them took notice of the two construction workers amongst their midst.   While their Carhart pants and long-sleeve t-shirts were clean since they hadn’t started work yet, they were a stark contrast to everyone around them.  He could only imagine how much more it would be after the filth they wore after a long, hard day’s work.
Entering a large break room that was packed with people, Kristoff suddenly felt claustrophobic. He noticed not one, but several men look over at their entrance and size them up with a confident smirk that told him they were glad that their collars were white.  Wasn’t the first time it had happened to him, and certainly would not be the last.
Turning his eyes down he waited for the secretary to pour them a coffee from the carafe.  She turned to him first, of course, and asked what he wanted in it.  He was perfectly capable of getting his own coffee, he had no idea why she was taking the liberty of getting it for him.
“Black is fine,” he muttered.
She handed him a coffee and he didn’t look up.
“There are a bunch of pastries over on the counter if you-”
“I’m good, thanks,” Kristoff said, and turned around abruptly and walked back the way they’d come.  He all but ran for the lobby and to the stairs. He descended quickly to the floor below where he belonged.  As soon as he walked into the dusty space, he relaxed.
He was sitting on a turned over five-gallon pail when Sven strolled in with a coffee and two donuts about five minutes later.
He stopped in front of Kristoff and looked down at him.  “What, the, fuck?”
“Leave me alone.”
Sven just stood there, staring at him.  “Are you okay?  Like mentally?”
Kristoff gave him a look that said to ‘fuck off’.
“Seriously, is there something going on I don’t know about?” Sven asked.
“No.”
“Then what the hell?”
“Look, you might be comfortable trapsing through an office full of a bunch of people that look down on you, but I hate it.”
Sven gave a long sigh and handed Kristoff a donut and sat on the floor across from him.  “Yeah, that office is full of douche bags for sure.”
Kristoff didn’t really want the donut but he ate it anyway since Sven had been nice enough to grab one for him.  They’d talked many times before about how different it was when they shifted their business from residential to commercial renovation.   For a lot of people, there was a clear divide between them and blue-collar men like him and Sven.  Higher educated and higher class than a lowly tradesman.  Not everyone was like that of course.  Anna certainly wasn’t.  But there were enough bad ones that it had made him harbour a little resentment towards the upper-class workers like the ones in the floor above him.
Sven chuckled.  “Should have seen some of the ladies in the room eat us up with their eyes though.”
That brought a smile to his face.  “They get tired of looking at dudes in suits.  Just like the women we date get tired of us in jeans and t-shirts.”
“Ain’t that the truth? Come on, let’s get this over with. It’s going to be a long day.”
They got to work, Kristoff telling Sven that he was going to run the cart to the bin.  His friend didn’t argue.  After about three hours of it he wished he’d just stayed on the tools. It was boring as hell standing in the elevator staring at nothing while it went up and down.  By the time lunch rolled around, it felt like the entire twelve-hour day had already passed.
The blonde secretary found her way into the construction zone as they were finishing their lunch, sitting on a pile of lumber they were going to repurpose.
“Oh, hello there, Kris. Hi Sven.”
Sven smiled. “G’day.”
“I, oh, well, I see you are having lunch.  I was going to ask if you wanted me to grab you something but I guess I’m a few minutes too late.”
Sven turned his head to Kristoff and remained silent.  Kristoff slid his gaze to see his friend was forcing him to be civil, especially after how short he’d been with her in the morning.
“Um…” He cleared his throat. “Thanks, but we are good here.  We usually brown bag it.”
She looked confused for a moment and then seemed to understand.  “Ah, well, alright.  I’ll leave you to it then.”  She turned slightly, then paused and turned back.  “There’s a bunch of benches in the courtyard to the North of the building. If you feel like some fresh air at lunch instead of uh, in here.”
Kristoff glanced over at Sven again.  Sven’s attention was still focused on him and he was smirking.  The secretary had been talking to both of them but she had only been looking at Kristoff.
Dammit, Sven
Kristoff said, “Thank you, Miss.”
“Oh!  My name is Berkleigh!”
“Thanks then, uh, Berkleigh.”
“You are very welcome, Kris. Anything you need, you come and find me, okay?”
Kristoff only nodded and she finally left them alone.
-----
Anna was standing there when Kristoff wheeled the empty bin back in the office after the last load of the day.  Sven had been talking to her and she was laughing again.  The corner of Kristoff’s nose twitch with impatience and he wished again he was smoother with his words around people he didn’t know well.
“What did I miss?” he asked, putting on a smile as he parked the bin against the wall and walked over.
“Ah nothin’.”  Sven waved his hand in the air dismissively. “Just telling the Boss about that time we had to work for that airline company.  Remember?  We were more than half way through and they gave us all those change orders.”
“I remember,” Kristoff said. He remembered it anxiously instead of humorous however.  The job they had lined up after needed to be pushed back and they had almost lost the client.  They had to work fourteens for two weeks straight to get it all done.  Not unlike the time restraint on this job.  The only difference was there was nothing lined up after, which still worried Kristoff.
“Anyway,” Anna said, looking over at Kristoff with those gorgeous blue eyes.  “I was just telling Sven I can’t wait to get back down here and into a normal sized office.”
Kristoff was confused, having not been paying attention when that was discussed.  He knew she was cutting her office in two, what he did not know, was why.  He looked to Sven and his friend read his face and shot him a look with a sight widening of his eyes.
“I understand that, Boss, absolutely,” Sven said, turning to her.  “I also wouldn’t want to take the old CEO office when he moved upstairs without making it my own.”
She laughed. “Right?  Like, what the hell does someone need an office that big for? It’s hilarious.”
Kristoff nodded, like he’d known that all along instead of learning it just then.
Sven said, “It certainly is, Boss.”
She looked at Sven. “You guys can call me Anna, you know.”  Her eyes slid over to Kristoff and appraised him.  “Not that you say much.”
Sven spoke up before Kristoff could utter a word.  “Ah, Kris is the strong silent type, don’t mind him.”
Anna laughed.  “I don’t mind either of you!  To be honest, you two are way more friendly that half the people upstairs.”  She looked directly into Kristoff’s eyes.  “Even if you don’t say much.”
As much as he tried not to, Kristoff started to blush.
“Anyway, have a lovely evening, gentleman.  Come on up in the morning again for coffee and pastries.”
“Thank you,” Kristoff and Sven said in unison.
“Have a good night, Boss.”
Kristoff added, “Yes, have a good night.”
“You as well.”  Anna smiled over her shoulder at them then walked out of their construction zone.
~   ~   ~   ~   ~
The next day he was all but accosted by the blonde secretary while he was eating his lunch on a park bench outside.   She had been mercilessly flirting with him whenever he was in her sight, and his patience was being severely tested.  She had spotted him sitting there and made a b-line over to him, which he supposed served him right for taking her suggestion to eat outside.  His stomach twisted and he repressed dropping his shoulders with the annoyance he felt to have her approach him again.
“Do you have Snap?”
What kind of greeting is that?  “I have no idea what that is.”  He didn’t, and he tired to make it clear with his tone that he didn’t care to find out.
“What about Instagram? It’s the best!”
“No.”
“Oh, you should get it! I’ll help you, just give me your phone.”
He looked around the street. Where the fuck are you, Sven?  Get off the fucking toilet already!  “It’s okay, I’m not a social media kind of guy.”
Her face turned into a pout. “Oh, come on!  It’s just Instagram.  I’ll set it up for you quickly and you can add me!”
“I, er, no thanks.”
Her disappointment looked profound, then all of the sudden, it disappeared.  “Then I’m just going to keep bugging you and bugging you until you get it.”  She smiled and turned to walk away.
Kristoff panicked at the thought of her constantly pestering him.  “Fine, fine, set it up,” he said, and then immediately regretted it.  What the hell was he doing?   He should have just let her walk away and told her to knock it off the next time she bothered him, even if his Ma would slap him silly for being rude to a lady.
Berkleigh sat on the bench beside him and waited.  Kristoff unlocked his phone and handed it to her, watching her like a hawk on what she was doing to make sure she wasn’t going to try and snoop through his photos. Not that there was anything incriminating, he just didn’t want to share them with her.  At all.
She asked what his email was and then gave him the phone back to enter all his personal information. When he gave the phone back to her to finish, Sven appeared at his other side, chewing on his sandwich and watching what was happening with interest.
“There!” she said.  “Now let’s take a photo.”
“What?  No, I don’t want-”
“Come on, just stand there and I’ll snap one of you and show you how to post it.”
Kristoff reluctantly agreed if only to get her out of his hair.  He was relieved that she wasn’t demanding to be in the picture with him. There was no way he was going to say yes to that.  He lifted his hand and smiled at his phone, feeling like a complete fucking jackass.
“Done!  Here, look, you can add filters and-”
“No.  Just, post it, or whatever.”
He watched what she did as she babbled on and on about the filters anyway, then asked what he wanted to tag the photo as – whatever the fuck that meant – which Kristoff told her impatiently not to bother with.  After a tap of her finger, his picture was then posted on his brand-new Instagram account. She started to tell him that next he needed to add a profile picture and he tried to grab his phone back, wanting more than anything to be done with this exchange.
“Hang on!  Let me add myself first!” she said, pulling the phone away from his grasp.
Right, because I asked you kindly to do so.  “I really need to get back to work.”
“One second… and… done!”
She handed him back his phone and he stuffed it in his pocket.  He mumbled a ‘thanks’ even though he wasn’t happy about anything that had just happened.
“You’re welcome! Catch you later, Kris!”
She walked away and Kristoff sat back down beside Sven.  His friend was quiet a moment.
“That was awkward as fuck, dude.  Total cringe-fest.”
Kristoff groaned and put his face in his hands.

Part fifty-two of Shizuroth, aka, the SOLDIER General's Self Saving Shizun.

"I don't doubt that it's important, but… are you sure this is the right time to leave Midgar? With what is going on in the Science Department… we need all the hands we have here."
"That's why I'm recalling Reno and Rude," Tseng answers, as he finishes tidying up his desk. "I'll take over for them and they'll take over for me. You'll take the lead for now, fill them in."
Cissnei sighs, clasping her elbows loosely, glancing around the office. It already seems a little emptier. "You're the best informed on the situation here, Acting Director Tseng."
Tseng gives her a look and picks up his suitcase. "I know it's a lot to ask this suddenly, but you'll be fine. You have good instincts, Cissnei. And you won't be by yourself for long - Reno and Rude will be here in a day. They'll help you."
"I know I will be fine," Cissnei says with a smile. "The Science Department is usefully sexist, they won't even notice my existence. I just don't like the implication that whatever is going on with Sephiroth trumps what's going on here. That recording must've been bad news."
She hadn't understood more than a few words, her Wutai was still rudimentary - but just hearing Sephiroth, of all people, speaking the language fluently was a bit startling. And judging by Tseng's reaction…
Tseng hesitates and then turns away from his desk. "There's a very real chance that Sephiroth might be thinking of deflection. He's certainly showing sympathy towards the Wutai cause - I don't have to tell you what kind of disaster that would be for the company."
"... No, I get it," Cissnei says and sighs. "It would be a disaster."
"Reno and Rude aren't equipped to handle it. I am not either, no one is, but at least I can offer an alternative view on the situation."
"Alright," Cissnei hums with understanding. "... I'm not put in charge of the office, right?" she then asks and offers him a smile. "Be a bit weird, to put the rookie in charge."
"Rude will be in charge of the office once he gets back - Reno will manage operations. Anything more important than the usual fare, you refer it back to me," Tseng instructs. "But this ongoing situation with the SOLDIER program, I want you to stay on top of it, alright?"
"Of course," Cissnei agrees. "I'll keep watch. I'll message you about any new developments."
"Mn," Tseng nods, and together they head for the elevators.
Cissnei is quiet until they make it inside and begin the slow ride to the top.
"So, what is really going on with Sephiroth?" she asks curiously, giving her boss a sideways look.  "I've heard so many rumours. He's developing new magical abilities, right? Ones he doesn't need Materia for."
"Mn. There are many theories," Tseng says. "It's impossible to say which one is closest to the truth. The most common is that he's learned to… read the Mako in his veins."
Cissnei arches her brows and leans against the side of the elevator. "Read it, like… read the memories in the Lifestream?"
Tseng gives her a look. "Don't let anyone from the Science Department hear you say that."
Cissnei grins cheekily. "I won't! But that's it, isn't it? The same Ancient knowledge that makes Materia produce magic is in Mako, right? And Sephiroth has more Mako in him than anyone. So he has the most potential knowledge. Right?"
Tseng shakes his head. "That's the theory."
"Oh, so you don't think that's it?"
"Hmm. I don't know what to think yet. I haven't had the chance to fully observe him. But based on Reno and Rude's reports… no, I don't think that's it. Or at least, it's not all of it."
"Oh?" Cissnei asks interestedly, clasping her elbows again and looking at him closely. "What then? Is it the Ancient blood in his veins?"
Tseng casts her a sideways look. "Where did you hear that?"
"Oh, it's going around! Rumour has it he's a descendant of the Ancients - that's why he looks the way he does, all mystic and ethereal."
Tseng hums noncommittally and looks up at the floor counter. "Is that right?"
Cissnei grins at him. It absolutely is. "So, is that what's going on? Sephiroth coming into his own as an Ancient?"
"I wouldn't know," he says flatly. "And I won't make any conclusions until I see him. As it is, wherever is going on in his head isn't as important as what he will do going forward. He can sprout horns and tail, for all I care, so long as he stays on the right side when he does it."
"How cold," Cissnei says teasingly. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you didn't like him."
"I don't like him. I don't dislike him," Tseng says, not looking down from the counter. "But he's a valued part of the company."
"Mmhmm. Very valued," Cissnei agrees, smiling mirthlessly and then shakes her head. "You know, I kinda pity him."
"... For his upbringing?" Tseng asks.
"For his everything," Cissnei says and sighs. "I read his file too, you know - the unclassified bits, anyway. Sephiroth is like this refined concentrate of everything Shinra stands for. It's a lot for any one person to handle."
"... I guess that's one way to view it," Tseng muses, looking away.
Cissnei chuckles. Not even a bit of sympathy on his face. "So cold," she says and looks up as the doors open. Together they step out of the elevator and Cissnei walks Tseng towards the helicopter waiting on the pad. She hangs around while he goes about pre-flight checks and the startup sequence.
"What about the girl in the slums?" Cissnei asks. "Should we check up on her for you while you're away?"
Tseng hesitates between flicking switches. "If you have the time. Just make sure she and her mother are alright. Keep your distance," he says.
"Of course, she won't even know I'm there," Cissnei agrees. "I don't suppose there's a file on her we should make notes on?"
"Make a new one."
Cissnei smiles and steps back away from the helicopter "Alright, alright, keep your secrets," she says. "Hope you have a safe trip, Tseng. Have fun in Wutai!"
"I won't," Tseng answers, pulling headphones on. "I never do."

What do your TWST boys think about RSA and the students from there? Do they feel the same need of rivalry the others have? Or are they uninterested in the matter?
Most of them do, but not always for the same reasons. Nakoda, Elias, Reno, Maelstrom, and Grit all have a rivalry with Royal Sword as an entity, but it's sort of a natural rivalry. By which I mean, they are against them, but it's only because it's Royal Sword and they're Night Raven College, so to speak. There's nothing personal in it beyond support for their school, because all five of them ARE glad to be at Night Raven and do have their own sense of pride. James & Smitty aren't so much against Royal Sword Academy as they are against one person AT RSA. That person is one Matthew Satyr: James' arch-nemesis and our resident Peter Pan OC analogy. I won't go into the details, but James and Matthew have been at each other's throats for a long time. Smitty doesn't feel the rivalry as strongly - in fact, he worries about how it affects James, mentally and emotionally - but he takes James' side, and is just as eager, in his own way, to see the feud settled. Theodore has a beef with BOTH schools. I don't want to reveal why, since that's a big part of his backstory, and I don't want to spoil it till I write his Chapter Story (whenever that is). Suffice it to say, Theodore's personality - which ranges from standoffish to spitefully sadistic - is largely the result of him hosting a strong "Me Against the World" mentality. The only exception to all this is Billy, and that's largely because of his own background. Billy is a giant; he quite literally looks down on all the "little ones," so to him, Night Raven's prestige and legacy is certainly very, VERY cool...but he feels RSA is pretty interesting, too. Both of them are things he's never experienced. He's essentially a neutral party. However, in a contest between the two schools, he'll always pick Night Raven first, because - barring OCs like @clouddreamer101's Harmonia - that's where all his friends are. But he really doesn't have any kind of strong rivalry against RSA; to him, they're equals. If there IS a rivalry, it's only born from the fact he's attending one side of the battle. I hope that makes sense.

Setting Up Audre 2.4
Moving on from the Sunflower Fresh Market and out of the blue building to the brick structure nestled in the middle of the Franklin Market public strip.
Tumblr media
This is where I’ve placed my Nectar Shop and Fromagore, which I’m hoping will eventually get a name, lol. I am thinking once I have a better idea of who all lives in Audre, and thus who will work/own this place something will come to me. However, I’m also open to suggestions.
Tumblr media
So when I was taking a look at this world and kind of creating a mental build map, I wasn’t really sure what this section of the lot would be. I just knew I wanted tables in front of those large windows, so some kind of food/drink related establishment.
Tumblr media
I don’t recall what exactly lead me to make this nectar focused as oppose to a café or diner, and even as I was working inside, I questioned if I should make it a different venue. I’m guessing as I imagined the courtship of my self sim and love interest, I also thought of date activities. Despite the fact that I don’t and have never drank, and have never really been (aside childhood trips) to any alcohol focused establishment, I imagine having listened to enough people talk about sampling wines or going to Napa Valley, plus well the nectar maker, made having a nectary in Audre seem natural. For me, I suppose, it also made sense for it to be near my grocer and bakery, although I can’t say the same for it being beside a pet shop, lol.
Here are some shots from just inside the front door:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The decision to also make this a Fromagore came as I was completing the first level. I was placing decorative items, and couldn’t figure out what to put in that spot beside the door. Around the time when I was trying to think of what goes with wine in real life I was catching posts on my dash of people tinkering with food processor that goes with @anitmb’s hunting mod so that it could produce cheese. Then I went, duh, cheese, then patrons not only have the option of sampling, buying and making nectar but making and buying cheese as a part of the venue’s experience.
Here’s a shot of the sale’s floor from behind and then beside the register.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those red shelves are custom wine racks. I found them way back a little after when talking about how shocked I was that there were very few cc racks online. I can’t remember who created these, but I am grateful to have a modern alternative. Clearly, like the food selves in my previous renos, the racks are bare, as I have not stocked them yet.
Through the archway is a small sitting room, where guest can sit and enjoy nectar, cheese, and a good book.
Tumblr media
I imagined this place would throw seasonal events, that encouraged large crowds to sample wine and cheese. That it would also allow groups to rent the place out for more private sampling events, and in between these, regulars might use the siting area to have a glass of nectar and some cheese while on a date or enjoying some solitary time while reading a book.
Tumblr media
That couch ended up here simply because I downloaded it sometime ago, but never used it. I didn’t know that it’s limited in how it could be recolored, but managed to make it work well enough to go along with the atmosphere.
Tumblr media
I’m not entirely sure I’ll keep the walls in the sitting room, or if I will replace them. At the time I moved on to work on something else I was satisfied. As I look at these images now, however, I don’t like the combination of the molding with that arch, and the arch is definitely staying, lol.
I think I will end with this shot of the sales area from the sitting room:
Tumblr media
This reno is a two level shop. I think I have enough pictures of the basement to fill their own post.
More to come next week!
