The Thief // Recovery
I was gonna save these to post when we got an official date for the final RvB season but who knows when that'll be so I'll throw them here now! I've never posted much cosplay on here but seeing as how my peak RvB days were on Tumblr it feels fitting that I post these here first :)
One of the main reasons I even got into RvB in the first place was because of @euniysu's art, and I fell in love with the Guns for Hire AU the second I saw it. These designs became instant dream cosplays of mine (honestly all of them did) and it feels fitting that ten years later just as the series is ending, I finally make them. It's also a way to celebrate 10 years since I found Rooster Teeth and fell in love with RvB (and saw these designs!). I'm so so happy I finally got to do these cosplays and I absolutely can't wait to wear them again (I'm York here but I made both cosplays and I'll be wearing Wash at the ren faire this weekend! It's time traveler's weekend and I think I'm funny lol). I don't know what it is about cosplaying York but i felt so Gender as him and am so glad everything came out well :)

Comparation of the sceneries in anime vs real life. The palace in the anime resembles /take reference to the Forbidden Palace.
The long red hallway in anime and actual palace. Hengdian World Studio recreate this hallway since is being used a lot. It's a very common scene in tv drama, often it's climax of the story or when concubines argues (verbal fight) that can changes someone's fate. Usually the maid or eunuch, sigh… poor blue collar.
The round architectural structure (aka Praying Hall) where Jinshin performs the ritual, is actually outside the actual palace in real life. It's located in place called Temple of Heaven, about 2 to 3 blocks away from the palace.
Last but not least, is the scene when Concubine Fuyou is leaving the palace vs real life.
I hope people can appreciate the production team, for effort they put in research, absorb and create. Such as the red hallway is not somewhere that people who are not familiar with palace drama will realize.
To be honest I was kind lazy and procrastinate and making this post about the Jinshin carrying Maomao. But I feel tiny bit sorry 😅 for the production team, they want to make this artistic, heart felt mood with the scenery and the music. Yet everyone's concern is about Jinshin walking too slow and Maomao bleed a lot. (I am glad she will be fine)
In the story, the clothings that concubines wear and also the dress Maomao wear when she has street food with Jinshin, they resemble Tang dynasty. Yet the forbidden palace is not use until Ming and Qing, the last two dynasty.
P.S.
*Street food is yum yum, but wait until your stomach are adapted like the locals.
*Lihaku is actually a famous poet in Tang instead of a "police/security" official.

ROUND 2-A: Dimentio VS Team Red
About Dimentio: He repeatably went behind Count Bleck's back with the goal of using the Chaos Heart himself, getting Mario, Peach, and Bowser to where they need strength-wise to defeat Count Bleck. He often insults and confuses the heroes but also fakes respect for them and tries to "join" their side. He's complete fine with recreating the universe in his own image and was going to destroy everything beyond repair out of spite if he couldn't rule over it. At the end of the game he mind controls Luigi and merges with him and the Chaos Heart to defeat Mario (which is a plan that fails).
About Team Red: A group of five consisting of Sarge, Grif, Simmons, Donut, and Lopez. A list of their exploits includes: Sarge giving Grif Simmons' limbs and then making Simmons a cyborg because he didn't want Grif to be one, Repeatably blowing up their jeep which plays polka music everytime it's driven, Lopez being stuck in Spanish mode and using the fact that none of the team knows Spanish to insult them, Donut taking a grenade to the face and returning with "Light Red-ish" that he refuses to admit is pink, Sarge getting deemed Super-Colonal just to outrank Grif, Simmons burring Sarge alive to become leader with Sarge actually thinking he's dead because command said so and Red Command is never wrong, Grif's colorblind sister trying to join them but accidentally joining Team Blue instead, and Sarge legally changing his name to Sarge to "Dress for the job he wanted".

Gale Rewrites the season 5 Finale
Now personally I really didn’t like the way this finale went. It did have some great ideas and concepts. But then the problems come in.
(As requested by the poll)
So the question is Where do I start?
I guess let’s start with Conformation.

To be completely honest the plan that Gabriel and Tomoe came up with was smart. Making a magical illness that the alliance could help counter making tech addicts.
But I think what I would have made some tweaks.
1. The whole having Ladybug and chat noir supposedly kidnap Adrien and Kagami. It is unnecessary. Just have the rings Lock onto their fingers once a certain percentage of users hit and the simply have the rings transform them having them be locked on bots while the user is stuck in bliss of the peace. It’s a lot less convoluted and still accomplishes the goal without needing an additional few minutes to explain what’s happening. And then bam. Less opposition, and less need for explaination.
2. Felix gets involved. He decides that he can’t simply rely on Ladybug to confront his Uncle and kagami's mother. also these Alliance rings have gone too far. He breaks out Kagami and Adrien. Getting the rings off of them and getting them out before the alliance activates phase 2. This also helps Adrien get out of his slump. Because an argument would ensue and Felix let’s it slip that Marinette is going to confront his father. Which has Adrien decide he needs to go to. Even without Plagg. So they head to Paris.
Also the sentimonster he created was named Rescue, and it has a design similar to Feast (before akumatization), but instead of being Blue, he is green and the symbol on him is not the guardian symbol but the Japanese character for Freedom. Felix plans on Rescue being his last sentimonster and letting him live freely after.
(Also Felix’s and Kagami’s nightmares get revealed. Felix is seeing his father return and take his freedom. Kagami’s is being alone with no friends again)
3. Nathalie doesn’t just stop moving when telling Ladybug. She urges Ladybug to go and hurry. So Nathalie doesn’t just drop, not yet. Though she is on deaths door. (This is important for later.)
4. Alya and the resistance agree with Mylene and take the rings off before that little announcement, especially after Mylene points out how weird the rings are for being a perfect counter to the night torment. Thus saving everyone but Ivan who is too scared to take off the ring and it results in the similar scene.
5. Tomoe tries to warn that the kids escaped but Gabriel but is busy
With all these changes it still results in Bug Noire vs Monarch. But Adrien is outside and goes in

Now for Recreation.
Monarch and bug noire start their fight and it gets intense like in canon.
Thanks to the security measures, Adrien can’t get in normally. So Argos suggests the window.
The iconic windows Monarch looks through, and he goes through it with them.
There Adrien sees all of the enslaved Kwami. He is horrified. And Felix seeing what his deal has brought is equally horrified. This means that Monarch was Gabriel.
And Adrien gets furious at Felix for knowing and making the deal. Which Felix ADMITS was wrong. Kagami keeps the peace.
Meanwhile, Tomoe reveals her back up plan. A Super miraculizer armor. Basically a Red version of it and puts it on, she is going to track down her daughter.
Cut to Lila still doing Lila things.
Kagami and Felix managed to shut down the miraculizer. So they all go inert. Meaning everyone is frozen. Except then Tomoe shows up. And her has a unique set up with her powers. Not linked to the other Miraculized. Argos and Rescue fight against Tomoe/ Kiseki Gozen.
And cut back to Gabriel fighting for his life, And everything is near checkmate.
Which causes Monarch to freeze, cause the hand has Adrien’s amok on it.
And there she detransforms just like in canon. Trying to talk him out of it.
Adrien rushes down to confront his father, and arrives just as Gabriel goes to use venom.
But Adrien calling out to him caused a stall, just enough for Marinette to avoid the attack but the movement caused her to drop the cat miraculous.
Adrien drops down and confronts his father. Then sees Marinette there and asks what she is doing down here?
But Gabriel smiles, his feint may have failed but now he has a back up.
“Adrien, I order you to get her miraculous.”
Adrien looks at his father angry but suddenly felt his body move on its own. What’s going on? Why is he not disobeying his father. He’s the bad guy!
Marinette pleads with Adrien, telling him not to.
Adrien picked up the ring.
“I… can’t stop myself… I’m sorry Marinette.”
He transforms revealing he’s chat noir. Ladybug was absolutely stunned
Shocking monarch too, but he laughs saying of course fate would have the ring under his nose the whole time.
Marinette transforms with tears in her eyes. Ladybug vs chat noir.
Argos and Rescue losing to the different powers of Tomoe, and is about to end Argos. But Rescue takes the hit and is killed in his place. Argos cries for Rescue, which Tomoe dismisses saying it was just a monster. Kagami snaps back and breaks all the kwamis out of their containers. They attack Tomoe and her powers gone. Tomoe orders Kagami to help her. To which Kagami tells her.
“You can’t control me anymore.”
Ladybug pleading with Chat noir/ Adrien to stop. Adrien saying he wanted to tell her he was chat noir but not like this.
Marinette telling him that she wanted to save him, that she wanted him to be free. That she loved him.
Adrien tears in his eyes activates cataclysm, but in some act of defiance hits himself with it. Causing him to scream and stun Gabriel.
Chat noir falls to the ground.
Gabriel screams asking why he did that.
“I’d rather die than hurt Marinette. I’ve done that more than enough times.”
Gabriel starts backing up. He got all his rings back and tried using them, but it’s no good. So he falls to his knees in defeat. It’s over he’s going to die. Nathalie is going to die, and his son will be alone.
Argos and Kagami drop down to see the aftermath. Marinette and Adrien are detransformed. Felix and Kagami are glad they are okay. The Kwami behind them.
Marinette and Adrien look at him. Wondering what to do.
(Now here I have 4 options)
1. Marinette uses new ladybug power because power of creation is limitless and cures Gabriel. Then Nathalie. Saving them both.
2. It’s too late for Gabriel and he turns to ash. But Marinette remembers Nathalie, and using the Rooster miraculous have create a power of healing which fixes Nathalie.
3. There is no powers that could fix it, so it ends with both Nathalie and Gabriel passing on.
4. Ladybug’s power can save Nathalie but Gabriel it’s too late because Ladybug awakens the power only when seeing Nathalie again.
For the sake of trying to keep things as consistent with the season 5 finale. I will say 2 or 4 happened
Nathalie gets cured, Adrien gets his amok rings. And Ladybug casts miraculous cure. Fixing all the damage done by the miraculized.
Cut to the time skip weeks later.
Tomoe was arrested for conspiring with Monarch. Gabriel Agreste was revealed to be monarch. The Graham de vanily family seized all the assets regarding Gabriel Brand.
The alliances were scrapped and recycled. Bustier is mayor.
Nathalie was healed and took over as Legal guardian interestingly for both Adrien AND Kagami. Turns out those contracts Tomoe and Gabriel had signed was that should anything happen to the other, the legal Guardian would fall between her or Gabriel. And Nathalie was named in that agreement as the 3rd party in the case of both being lost.
Marinette fixed up the miraculous and explained what happened to Suhan and Alya. Alas She, chat noir couldn’t find the butterfly for some reason.
Emilie was given a proper grave. The garden area was turned into a pool area. And things are in a way like they were from the aftermath.
(Also show some clips from the fights around the world and that can be the miraculous world cameos)
Argos earned his role as a hero. Amelie moved to Paris as she is in charge of rebranding Gabriel. Also we get to meet the Graham de vanily Family.
Adrien and Marinette get their cute fountain scene with twists. Adrien being afraid of ending up like his father, but Marinette telling him she will be with him always. Even if it’s just the two of them against the world.
Then they kiss (also their miraculous reacts so it has all the lovesquare flash. So Marichat kiss, Ladrien kiss, and Ladynoir kiss. Because All sides of the square resolve)
(I know I skipped the wish, and yes I know we miss Gimmi and the true forms of kwami. But tbh it’s not that important and could be shown later)
Lila also gets her miraculous and gets to be the villain of season 6.

it's interesting that, according to this poster, the flying graysons uniform is closer to dick's black and blue nightwing suit, than the bright traffic light colours of the robin suit
in some origin stories, dick's robin suit—and consequently every robin after him—was insp by the flying graysons
idk if it was intentional, but it seems that (at least rn in wfa) dick seems to have modelled his current nightwing outfit after the flying graysons' uniform featured in this poster instead

Romance Book Review: Red, White, and Royal Blue (Casey McQuinston)

My book reviews
I have been seeing a lot of negativity around this book and the movie for a while now, and that has made me want to review this book. I will say it’s been a couple of years since I’ve read it last, but I have read it multiple times. The first time I read it I literally could not put it down; I had the audiobook and the ebook so I could read wherever I was lol.
I genuinely love this book. I think it is a great romance novel and I LOVE Alex and Henry so so much. I think a lot of the negativity is coming from a couple of places. First of all: the politics. Yes, you heard it here folks: the gay rom-com known as Red, White, and Royal Blue is not the next “Communist Manifesto”. Shocking, I know. But McQuinston was clearly not trying to write something politically revolutionary?? So, I don’t understand why that is being held against this book. From my understanding, they wrote this book after the 2016 election as a way of coping, essentially. To me, it is not at all different from something like Parks and Recreation, which is easily as much of a liberal utopia as RWRB. I said this in my review of Victoria Goddard’s The Hands of the Emperor, and I’ll say it here: not every work of fiction needs to have a radical political statement. Even if it features politics. It’s okay to have a book that is just about two young men falling in love against this dramatic political backdrop. Is it a bit cringe? Maybe?? But who cares!!! What isn’t cringe these days?? God. Also, it’s not like this book paints a super pretty picture of the monarchy in particular.
Sure, it's escapism, but so what?? What's wrong with a bit of escapism?
I think the other place some of the negativity is coming from is from the crowd who kind of wants to police what is and isn’t “good queer representation”. If a work isn’t “good enough” (i.e. doesn’t resonate with them personally) they will decry it as “bad representation”. I saw this happen with Simon vs. the Homosapien’s Agenda and the movie, Love, Simon. Like those works, I have occasionally seen RWRB condemned as sort of gay fiction for straight people. As if there is only one way to be queer. As if there is only one queer story. I acknowledge our need for a wide range of experiences portrayed in the media, but to say that we as a society no longer have a need for coming out stories is a bold fucking claim to be perfectly honest. RWRB was one of the first queer romance books I read, and it really meant a lot to me at the time, and continues to do so. I think that there is value in portraying both Alex’s journey of self-discovery and Henry’s journey of realizing that he doesn’t have to be unhappy in his life, that he deserves to be able to openly love who he loves.
So, with all of that out of the way, here’s the summary. Alex Claremont-Diaz is the son of the first female president of the USA and she is about to be up for reelection. Alex is widely beloved, he’s got a bright future in politics ahead of him, and everything seems to be going his way. Except he keeps getting put in the path of his nemesis, the younger Prince of England, Prince Henry. Henry, who is so cold and uppity and standoffish and Alex is definitely not attracted to him. Nope. Not a bit.
This book has everything you want in a romance book. Lovable characters, leads with genuine chemistry, lots of heart and emotion, a good dose of humor, and LOVE LETTERS. And HISTORICAL LOVE LETTERS. God. Even though, as I said above, this book is not a revolutionary political story, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t deal with deep and interesting topics. It deals with multicultural relationships, what it means to have a legacy and how much we get to dictate what that legacy is, and some of the realities of being a queer person in the public eye.
I love this book, and I think if you are a romance reader or just love a good queer romance with a genuinely happy ending, this is the book for you.

12 YEAR OLD OCS: SIDE B

It's an ambiguous time period between 2007 and 2009, and a youth is sitting at their family computer. An online friend on a forum they frequented introduces them to a little website called tektek. This site had all the avatar building assets from Gaia Online (not the forum i frequented back in that day by the way) without having to own any of the items, providing an easy-ish way to show off your RP characters, or to just build stuff for funsies. Elenora came about from playing around with what was available in tektek and making up lore for her and the world around her in my head. By this point in time I was kind of starting to feel The Shame™ around my creative interests and never saved whatever I built of the characters I made for this world and rarely drew them out. I even have a specific memory of tracing over one of those How to Draw Anime books to make Elenora and her sister and then throwing the drawing away in the shitty transparent plastic trashcan I had in my bedroom. However, since I recreated Elenora so many times in tektek I still remember what most of her base items were like a decade and a half later.
In Elenora's world, everybody is born with a specific power which is shown by the color of their eyes, hair, and the magic marks on their body. It was mainly elemental stuff like controlling fire or water or electricity or whatever, but a specific one I remember that wasn't an elemental thing was the ability to communicate with animals and get them to do what you want them to if you were powerful enough. Most people had one power type but it was still possible to be born with two powers, usually manifesting in a separate hair and eye color. The amount of magic marks on someone's body correlates to how much potential power they have, and once in a lifetime there's one person of each power born with all the marks, similar in the concept to the Avatar from AtLA but they're all separate girls that are born at the same time and the ones from the last generation don't die right when the next generation is born.
Elenora was born with full black marks, which gives illusion powers and control over shadows. However, she lives in an authoritarian society where those with black mark powers must be killed. She was born alongside a twin sister in a home birth, and their parents kept Elenora's birth a secret until she was able to use her illusion powers to disguise her marks. Things were all fine and dandy with Elenora honing her powers in secret until one day their house got raided and her sister sacrificed herself, claiming she was the one disguising herself to hide black marks instead. This sets Elenora off on a journey along with the ghost of her sister to find all the other girls with full marks and have adventures and overthrow her kingdom's government or something. One specific adventure plot I remember involved them running into a necromancer doing shit in the graveyard where her twin sister is buried, and her ghost merging with her zombie body brings her back to life. Unfortunately, I don't remember anything about what kind of personality she might have had besides "guilt over dead sister."

Darktuft is some cat who was the mentor of my old warriorsona Ariespaw, it's pretty cool, I still kinda like Darktuft. It was a generally fun-loving, silly guy. It was also from a clan I made up (I think it was named NightClan? I forgot lol).

Bolt Paper and Fire Paper
Let's start with Fire Paper. As you can see from this image, it appears to be a strip of something that is on fire. Obviously. But you can see that it isnt just magic paper. There's clearly some sparks creating the fire and it isnt actually paper, but some kind of leather strip. The in game description doesn't give much, but it was created in the Healing Church workshop sometime AFTER the burning of Old Yharnam, or at least became popular during that time.
Let's move on to The Cooler Paper.
Looking at those two closely, you can already see many differences between these icons. The Bolt Paper clearly has some kind of fur on the larger end, which the sparks are causing to stand on end. This is already hinting towards its orgin, but i'll explain it in detail. Bolt Paper and the Tonitri (Tonitruses?) were created by Archibald. This Archibald fellow was an absolute lunatic of a Church Hunter. Unlike his other inventions, Hunters actually used this one, especially if they had never seen Darkbeasts. This is probably because if had associated the power of lightning with a Beast, it would be seen similar to Irreverent Izzys creations of Beast Roar and Claw. Anyways, Archibalds story starts in Ailing Loran, possible origin of the beast plague and home to many powerful beasts. This Chalice Dungeon is where we fight a lot of beasts. Beast Patients and Werewolves mostly, but the bosses are something special. The Loran Silverbeast, Abhorrent Beast, and Loran Darkbeast all have something in common besides being Beasts. They naturally generate bolt within their fur. Like Miyazakis little demented pokemon, they increase in size and electricity production as you go up, with Darkbeasts at the top of the food chain in Loran. On one dungeon run, Archibald must have seen a Darkbeast sparking with power and thought "thats cool as fuck" and sought to recreate the bolt... and succeded.
So that's it for the origin of the two. But what about the symbolism? Well the first part is obvious enough. As with all sets of two in Bloodborne, they represent the opposition of Laurence and Willem. Insight and Beasthood. Red and Blue. Cummmfpk Chalice and Pig Fisting. Fire for Beasts, and Bolt for despicable blobby things.
Relating it more specifically than that, it is quite obvious in the game that while Laurences obsession with the Blood and Willems obsession with Insight both royally fucked up, the Blood has caused more destruction across Bloodborne as a whole. So why do powerful Beasts use Bolt? More than just a evolutionary or biological defense mechanism, I think that Bolt using Beasts were created to hunt down and kill Kin, and possibly even Great Ones. It is heavily hinted that Oedon created the Plague of the Beast or Ashen Blood and that they are the result of an eldrich laison to seek to a surrogate child. Oedon could be sabotaging the work of more sympathetic Great Ones like Ebrietas or Kos by causing Beasts to destroy the Kin experiments of the Church and the School of Mensis. In a Bloodborne Comic, a deranged man sees visions of several bosses and things in Yharnam, but one of the coolest visuals is that of a Darkbeast, presumable Paarl, fighting The One Reborn. While the One Reborn is both a failed Great One and not considered Kin, the image of a Beast literally ripping the magnum opus of Yahar'Gul to shreds invokes quite a feeling. I know the comics arn't canon but they do seem to have a good understand of Bloodborne lore. Plus the art there is cool as hell.
So, that's my thoughts on Bolt vs Fire. Bolt Paper isn't the true path to godhood or anything but I think the "anti-kin beasts" theory is interesting and i've never seen anything about it.
