Niðavellir headcanons I came up with at 2 in the morning
There's a lot and this is specifically for the ten remaining people who still care about Book V
Niðavellir values intelligence more than anything. While Fáfnir's general kindness helped him gain favor among the people, it was his knowledge of ruling and government operations that earned him his place as king.
Though objectively nicer before he had the crown, Fáfnir was always fairly cynical and had a dark sense of humor. He just did a better job at filtering himself before he was crowned.
Ótr has the same obsession with food that Reginn has, but he hides it in order to make himself seem more "royal". Because they were used to starving on the streets, they both eat as much food as possible even after moving into the palace.
Niðavellir's battalions each have a mechanic in charge of helping with Gullinbursti maintenance. However, most high ranking soldiers maintain their own Gullinbursti for efficiency's sake. As such, most dvergar soldiers know a fair bit about machinery.
While the war was still going, Fáfnir would cut Ótr and Reginn's hair pretty short to "keep them from being decapitated". After Reginn cried about that fact, he started to let her grow her hair out. He still made sure Ótr kept his hair relatively short, however.
After several all-nighters over the years, Eitri was constantly being confused for a ghost that would haunt Niðavellir's capital. They eventually came to embrace that fact and began dressing in all white to further mess with people.
The siblings can sleep anywhere at any time; for Ótr and Reginn this is because of their time on the streets, and for Fáfnir this is from him being a soldier. Reginn sleeps like rock. Fáfnir is a pretty light sleeper but if he's tired enough he's impossible to wake up. Ótr wakes at any change in his surroundings. He often wakes up in the middle of the night from the slightest sound or change in the light.
Fáfnir drinks coffee and tea throughout the day and takes both black. He'll let Reginn have sips of what he's drinking, but she's not a huge fan. Ótr drinks coffee and says he likes it black. He's lying. When he thinks people aren't looking he'll add tons of milk and sugar. Eitri is a "inject the caffeine directly into my veins" person, but since that's not exactly practical they make tea from the flowers around their sanctuary.
Ótr was sick the day Fáfnir and Reginn went to the New Year's festival, so Reginn tried to bring him back some mochi. She ate half the box on the way back, so Fáfnir had to hold it the rest of the way before she ate it all.
Fáfnir got the summoner a pocket watch for New Year's, both as a subtle threat and an act of genuine endearment.
Eitri takes very good care of the plants in their sanctuary to make sure they're as uninviting as possible. They will get upset if you step on their flowers, however.
After the events of Book V, the summoner makes Reginn plushies that look like her brothers and Nótt. If you listen closely, you can hear the princess talking to them when she's particularly lonely.

Important Info for Post-Book V Continuity
Below the cut because it contains spoilers for the end of FEH’s Book V. All of this can also be found on the blog here.
This interpretation of Fáfnir is post-Book V. To get around his canon death, I’m going with the idea that he was stabilized enough to be sent back to his home world. The Askran characters did suggest that idea in canon so we’re just not going to question why they’d let a murderous tyrant off the hook for nothing.
Fáfnir is technically 37 years old, but appears to be roughly 22. He was pulled from his homeland by fucky summoning magic ~15 years prior to the start of Book V, so my headcanon is that he just hasn’t been aging like normal. Only a day has passed in his home world since his summoning, and so he will age like he should now that he’s been returned.
He remembers everything that happened in Niðavellir up until the moment he was transformed into a dragon, after which he only remembers waking back up in the barracks with his patrolling squadron in his home world, seriously injured and scarred to hell and back. He doesn’t know that Reginn is the princess of Niðavellir, or that he killed Ótr and Nótt. He barely remembers the conversation he had with Reginn before being sent back (the canon convo right before his death). Needless to say, he is not expecting to see familiar faces in Fódlan.
Those who know my interpretation of Julius know that I hate writing off bad things that characters did when they were under the influence of something evil. While the Crown of the Dvergar took an egg beater to Fáfnir’s personality, I’m interpreting it as having amplified vices that already existed. Fáfnir is still impulsive, hot-tempered, easily frustrated, prone to using his fists instead of words, and prone to overcompensating, just to a lesser extent, and he’s currently not super stable.
Plagued by the memory of all the innocent people he had killed over the last year or two in his senseless conquest, he is currently averse to fighting and has retired from the military. He came to the Officers Academy for an alternative job to support his family.
Yes he is a Canon Dad.
Overall, I think FEH set up the potential to tell an interesting story about what happens to a Hero who is kept in Zenith for too long (and against their will), but missed the opportunity entirely. I’d like to take up that task instead.

Headcanon: My Portrayal of Otr
I figured I’d get all my thoughts in one post! Without further ado ...
In my interpretation, Otr and Fafnir are under a curse of some sort. Book 5 hasn’t made it clear what sort of spell it is, so here’s my take on it:
Prior to this curse’s effects, Otr was a kind, albeit stern, brother. He truly cared about Reginn and Fafnir, but he was also the sibling who rebuked them when either stepped out of line. He sometimes went too far with his strict words, however, and Fafnir, being the oldest and most mature of the siblings, would have to act as the peacemaker between them. In other words, Otr’s the brain and Fafnir’s the charismatic heart of the siblings. That’s not to say that Otr isn’t emotional, though. He definitely is -- he’s just shy and tries to keep his emotional demonstrations to a minimum. He prefers to see things logically and objectively, and most people know him that way; but he has a sweet, sentimental side that only his loved ones see.
The curse that Otr and Fafnir suffer from has a source: it’s the being that dwells in both the royal crown and mirror. This being is able to control minds and reprogram them to its preferences. While the reprogramming is under way, the subjects’ original personalities are suppressed. However, the mind is unwilling to relinquish itself and the original personality will attempt to fight back against the reprogramming. This manifests in the subject’s frequent memory loss, headaches, joint or muscle pain, lack of sleep, night-terrors or nightmares, and other such nasty side-effects.
In Otr’s case specifically, the being is trying to reprogram him to be cold, cruel, and absolutely logical. To others, it seems that Otr’s lacking in kindness and is excessively cruel. To Otr himself, the reprogramming assesses itself in his mind by assuring him that Fafnir is right. Follow Fafnir. Give in to me like Fafnir. The being is using its control over Fafnir and Otr’s love for his brother to force Otr to fall in line. It’s also trying to suppress Otr’s sentimental side and love for his sister, convincing him that following Fafnir is absolutely the right thing.
Mind you, Otr is incredibly sentimental when it comes to his family. He’s touched that Reginn’s kept the compass that Fafnir made, since he helped Fafnir make it. This being, however, is reprogramming him to call it “worthless,” because it wants him to be cold and devoid of emotion. Otr’s tried to fight back, but his mind is slowly giving in to it. He doesn’t understand what’s happening to him or why he’s suddenly willing to fight his sister -- something that he’d NEVER do if he were in control of himself -- and he’s scared. But he can’t show it.
Then there’s Nott. The real Otr would feel uncomfortable around her. He wouldn’t understand what she sees in him, and that lead him to suspect she’s only with him out of pity. It’d take awhile for him to realize that someone as good-looking as Nott is just as desperate for love as he is. If Otr wasn’t cursed, he and Nott could have a slow burn sort of romance. They’d need to talk things out and get over a lot of Otr’s own barriers, but they could work out. But while he’s cursed? Hahahahaha, no. Absolutely not. The reprogrammed Otr sees her as a means to an end and nothing more.
Because, after all ... Fafnir has need of her. And Fafnir is right ...

HEADCANON MEMES || ACCEPTING.
Tumblr media
“ … ótr.”  the name leaves his lips with grief, gaze dropping at the memory; guilt weighing heavy on his shoulders.  “ ótr, frænir, reginn, lyngheiðr, lofnheið and their father hreiðmarr. they were all friends of mine and my family, long ago.”  were being the key-word.  “ odin, hænir and i were going to visit the andvara-falls one day — we were simply out there to hunt and fish. neither of us knew that ótr was there that day too, having shape-shifted himself into an otter. i… struck him with a rock while his eyes were closed and he was dining on a fish. i believed him to be just another otter, and… he died. i killed him.”
he doesn’t mention what happened next. none of them had known at the time that it was ótr, and so, they had proceeded to skin his dead body and made a bag out of him. that same night, they had proudly shown what they had caught, including ótr’s skin, to his family, and needless to say, they had recognized ótr right away.
“ when his father and brothers found out what we- i, had done, they demanded ransom for our lives, so we offered them what we had; gold — but they wanted a very specific ring as well, that they made me retrieve. though the ring they had me retrieve for them was cursed. i tried to warn them, but of course they wouldn’t listen to me, and they took it… that was the last we heard of them before they all died. i miss them, still. they were good people. hreiðmarr was a good king to his people, and his sons would’ve made fine kings as well. a father lost his son, four boys their brother, the dwarves their leader, all because of a stupid mistake that i made.”
it wasn’t often that loki felt guilt from anything he had done, but this one, he still carried with him, centuries later. perhaps because that family had been so welcoming towards him when very few others had, and — while it had been an accident — what had he done in return? gotten the entire family; his FRIENDS killed, one directly, and the rest indirectly.
he missed hænir as well. the one friend he had been able to talk to about it all with afterwards; who had understood what he was going through, and had been willing to forgive him.
|| @aftcrstark ||  i screencapped the ask and added to a new post bc i don’t trust tumblr to not mess up my formatting atm

Soft FEH OCs Headcanons
Fjorm || Princess of Ice
Self-explanatory really,without vengeance on Surtr running through her head 24/7. Fjorm is just a massive huggable ball of softness
Can't see her NOT loving cuddles,her favourite cuddle partners are Ylgr,Sharena and of course,Gunnthrà
Also good at baking sweets since her mother (+Gunnthrà) taught her when she was little
Has a crush on Laegjarn,but has no horny thoughts,just thoughts of Laegjarn picking her up or cuddling her
Eir || Bringer of Life
The moment Veronica meets Eir again,she's getting pulled into an emotional squeeze
You can't tell me Eir doesn't love making LOTS of flower crowns during Day of Devotion
Probably gets easily embrassed whenever Ymir talks about her childhood before Hel pulled up and spun the block
Speaking of Ymir,anyone that dates Eir is the luckiest person alive because Eir will show you just how gorgeous and pure the Realm of Life is
Peony || Cherished Dream
Accidentally called Freyr papa once
Before you ask,yes,Mirabillis also made the same mistake
Peony semi-canonocally likes to play childish games like hide and seek or tag,especially with Sharena but really wants to play with Veronica but is too scared to ask
Probably one of the most cuddliest people you'll meet in the Order of Heroes
Reginn || Bearing Hope
Since Reginn is described to be tomboyish,she would probably try to bench press with Dagr only to fail at first try
Definitely a terrible dancer,but makes it up for it by being canonically good at cooking so she'd bring lots of goodies in parties
First one to cry whenever the girls play a scary game
Tempest Trials better cook once its her time to shine
Ash || Retainer to Askr
Ash loves any food involving milk since she's a literal Divine Cow
And yes,her favourite Ice Cream is Vanilla
Probably doesn't like how Veronica is willing to carry her father's legacy for very obvious reasons
Also has a very good listening ear so people like the Summoner or Veronica can vent about their feelings
Seiðr || Goddess of Hope
Aegis Main (Gullveig maining Palutena and Kvasir mailing Zelda(
Seiðr is actually pretty cheerful,but I think it's canon so idk really
Favourite cuddle partner is Heiðr and is very very shy to ask either Kvasir or Gullveig for a cuddle session
Her and Alear would probably be besties
Ratatoskr || Healing Hand
Probably the only sane one in her family unless her mother is also innocent but only time will tell
Will try her to best to EMOTIONALLY or MENTALLY heal people like Edelgard or Idunn
She doesn't care if they have alot to talk about,as long as they are healing,then she would have no problem listening to them
Also the easiest one to get jumpscared whenever the girls play a horror game

In the Feh Book 5 trailer, we can observe that the mechs have to be ran at least somewhat manually; a machine, powered by magic or not, wouldn't be able to keep up in a fight like we see in Reginn vs. Alfonse, and it wouldn't make much sense for the rider's limbs to extend into the Gullenbursti's arms and front legs and leave them vulnerable if they didn't do anything.
Now, I say "at least somewhat manually" because we can also see that the mechs have a very horse-like running gait, and we also see Reginn's Gullenbursti rear up on hind legs and kick at Alfonse.
As someone who has made designs for these mechs, I need to know your thoughts on this: are the legs powered mechanically or manually?
I need to know because I am kept up at night with the thought of Reginn playing frisbee or what-have-you with the Askrans without the mech and just chasing after the disc in a full gallop out of instinct from the mech's running mechanics.
This might be an issue Mana can relate to as well- turning into a 4-legged Manakete could mean that at some point, Mana has needed to run somewhere and idk wasn't in the headspace to remember they were in human form, and just got onto all fours and tried scurrying around Askr.
Thoughts? Love hearing about your Summoner and headcanons!
heya, sorry i took so long to answer this, i just didn’t really know how to word my reply ;-; personally i think that the gullinbursti function as a kind of assistive exoskeleton? whilst the user is controlling the mech for the most part, it also assists with various movements when needed, like it almost has a magical ai built into it. that way the user can use the gullinbursti in the most efficient manner. a human would not naturally be able to gallop in the mech, but it surely would be faster if they could, so that’s why it assists with such things etc. and yeah, i can totally see reginn and other users of their own personal gullinbursti getting used to those movements, so much so that they accidentally might end up doing some horse-like movements outside of the actual mech. it makes sense they would need to, as it would allow them to work in harmony with the gullinburstis movements. and haha, that would be a funny thought. i could see that applying to pretty much all manaketes and even the beasts to be honest. it could end up leading to some quite amusing scenarios that aren’t really considered when creating these types of characters and such. thank you so much for the ask and your kind words >w<
