#My issue with side y discourse generally is when they say you shouldn't use queer lables because your identity in Christ should be first.#like yes it should but if you're also comfortable calling someone straight then you're being a hypocrite#because that is an identical kind of lable#and same with other labels! are you comfortable calling yourself your ethnicity? your age? your gender? your job title?#then you're doing the exact same thing and in none of those cases is it considered that you're not putting your identity in Christ first#if I said I'm british people wouldn't be like ooh you're prioritising being British above God#like I COULD but not by using the label itself#I'm British. I'm female. I'm 21. I'm straight.#vs I'm british. I'm female. I'm 21. I'm bisexual.#I think if people have an issue with the latter but not the former that logic just doesn't follow through#and i know some people are more comfortable saying SSA#which I totally respect#but a. I personally am not because it feels stigmatizing and b. that's still a label in the same way#idk man I just don't get this specific approach.#also I know that's not all side y. but it defo is some of them!!!

Heist!Mark finally asks his partner in crime out on that date.
It was early evening and you and your heist partner sat nearly shoulder to shoulder in your shared living room. The sun hung low, just barely brushing its rays against the clouds, tinging their edges amber and yellow.
Recently, there had been a lot more of these calm afternoons where you would sit together, discussing everything and nothing, perhaps watching TV or whatever videos took both your fancy; sometimes you simply watched the sky until you felt sleepy. Occasionally one of his hands might come up to play idly with your hair (a more affectionate gesture than either of you had ever previously initiated, but you didn't really mind, and neither of you mentioned it).
'This next heist…’ he started, ‘it's supposed to set us up, pretty much for life. And it got me thinking—'
'That's dangerous,' you interrupted.
'Yeah, maybe for you,' he quipped back, eyebrows raised mockingly, but there was no malice in his voice.
'Anyway,' he continued, voice softening. 'I was thinking about the future and stuff. Like, what do we do after this? And as nice as it would be to be able to relax and just enjoy the rest of our lives without worrying about the next spot to rob, I think I would kind of miss doing these jobs with you.'
That got your full attention. He wasn't quite meeting your eyes — instead, a loose strand on his clothes was apparently very interesting — but something about his words and the gentle sincerity with which he'd spoken them took you a little off-guard.
‘...I hadn't really thought much about it. About what happens after.’ And it was true, you hadn't; nothing past the first few wild, exciting dreams that sprung to mind when reading the amount of money the pair of you were being offered for this particular artefact. No real, solid plans.
‘I think I'd miss it too,’ you continued quietly. ‘But I mean, who's to say we can't do a couple more every once in a while, just for the fun of it, y'know? We don't even have to go after anything that valuable. More like just… for old times’ sake.’ You caught his gaze and he smiled, a little fond and a little hopeful, dark eyes twinkling.
‘Yeah, cool… So, uhm,’ he averted his gaze again and you couldn't help but find his uncharacteristic hesitance and bashfulness adorable, wondering what was on his mind that was making him act this awkward.
‘So I was wondering, once this heist is over, if you'd maybe wanna go out sometime?’
‘Sure, is that it?’ you question, oblivious. (Or maybe not wanting to get ahead of yourself. Surely there's no way he meant it like that.)
Your crime partner’s head perked up, eyes wide and looking directly into yours, as if searching for something.
‘Really?’
‘Umm, yeah?’ you say, incredulous. ‘What's got you so nervous? And… surprised? We go out together all the time.’
‘No, buddy, you don't get it…’ he said, sat looking a little like a kicked puppy. The look of disappointment that crossed his face broke your heart and instantly made you regret your words.
His hands returned to fidgeting and oh, you wanted to take those hands in yours and ease the nerves from his palms, thread his fingers through your own, press your lips to his knuckles.
Mark sighed. One of his hands came to rest on his knee while the other carded through his hair. You found yourself wanting to do the same.
‘Listen…’ he began again, eyes downcast while his hand came to rest in his lap. ‘We've been friends for what feels like ages now, working together for even longer. I know we butt heads at times, I can be an idiot and you can get on my nerves but-’ Finally his eyes met yours, and the affection in them made your breath catch in your throat.
The sun was setting by now, casting a gorgeous orange glow through the room and over his features. It made his eyes appear almost golden, and it suddenly occurred to you that no shiny trinket you could steal could ever possibly be worth more than the look those eyes were giving you in this moment. You internally cringed at the thought, but you couldn't deny it was true.
‘You're really important to me,’ he said earnestly. ‘I don't always agree with you but I always trust your judgement. I probably trust you more than anyone else, to be honest. You're my best friend, and maybe I'm wrong, but I think there could be something else here? And I wanna try being more? If that's okay with you.’
‘You mean-’
‘Yeah.’ He took your hand, said your name, foregoing any of his nicknames for you. ‘I love you — I always have, as a friend, but I think I have feelings for you. So, if you reciprocate even a little, let me take you out. On a real date. And if things don't work out,’ (you didn't miss the small flicker of something sad as he added that part) ‘well, we can still work together. And we'll still be friends, right?’ he asked hopefully.
You could feel your heart thrumming wildly, from his words, the intensity of his gaze and the warmth radiating from his hand to yours.
You took his other hand, the one still atop his knee, and replied softly: ‘I'd really love that, actually. To go on a date with you, I mean.’
The smile he gave you was genuine, unlike the typical cocky. It was wide and crinkled the skin beneath his eyes. You briefly wondered whether he could feel your racing pulse through your intertwined hands.
‘Then it's agreed. After the heist.’
‘After the heist,’ you promised.
Inevitably, you would run into problems and possibly danger in your next heist, as you usually did, but you trusted Mark, and you knew you could count on him when push came to shove. You knew that you would follow him anywhere, and the two of you had a better chance of conquering any obstacles you faced if you were together, as you always had.
The sun dipped beneath the clouds, the room was warm, and things felt comfortably the same and yet like this was a turning point for the pair of you.
You were sure this heist would be one to remember.

i don't mind what pronouns people use for michael. i'll say it. you can refer to her as male (he/him) or female (she/her). she is a celestial body and does not adhere to gender in the traditional way so you are free to refer to her however.

Hi!! Dear friends, I need your help. Could you drop in the comments any queer book/movie titles you can think of? It can be any genres, fiction, nonfiction, educational literature etc
We're making a bibliography at the library I work at for pride, and tho I have already researched and gathered a lot of titles, I want to put as many as possible, so I thought of asking here
(Note: I know I have some italian mutuals, so if any of you knows the titles in italian that'd be even better)

Also in the replies of the Steph concept art on twitter announcing she was gonna be in a new project at DC (posted by Travis Mercer), there were at least 3 comments saying "will Tim be there?" I don't care how hard you ship timsteph I'm exploding you with my eyeballs if you do that on my girls post again
#ramblings of a lunatic#taking a step back to acknowledge that my stanning may be getting overzealous#but then again I'm not in ppls quotes or replies I'm vagueing on an entirely different website with no relevant tags. it could be worse#anyway I know tims had it rough these past couple of months ever since zdarsky shifted focus of the batman title to have less tim#but it still feels. idk. just a wee bit uninspired to act like steph can't go two steps without tim being behind her#im ngl i like timsteph when they're cute but timsteph twitter has been. pissing me off a tad lately#the refusal to acknowledge the sexism in dixons robin run and how it impacts stephs writing and their relationships writing#the refusal to acknowledge tims occasional condescension and hypocrisy when it comes to stephs vigilantism#seemingly only wanting her to be spoiler when he wants her around and telling her to give it up most of the time#also the constant disrespect of stephs batgirl era on there weirdly enough?#I've harped on about this on main and in drafts but despite it's flaws it's a good turn for stephs character#she's the focus she gets development (an upward trajectory! which had previously been unheard of for her! bc she did have flaws as spoiler-#-its just that both writers and characters alike seemed to arbitrarily decide she didn't have the capacity to grow past them! but she did!)#hell i saw a BIZARRE take today i just have to bitch about#which was them saying that Batgirl was a ''heteronormative mask'' steph put on#with spoiler being her more authentic self (and this being paralleled to gender expression with stephs isolation from the batfam as spoiler-#-showing how she ''wasnt like them'')#which. I'm not denying you the view that spoiler has a certain genderific swag to her but the needless dragging of her batgirl persona#steph got treated badly as spoiler bc she was A Girl. it's genuinely that simple dixon felt batman and robin would never stand for a girl-#-running around doing the things they did and would need to chivalrously stop her. he's gone on record saying this#she's constantly getting belittled by mostly men (cass also dismisses her but it feels distinctly less gendered)#and in the end it's barbara who learns to give steph a second chance despite her mistakes and they have a positive relationship#something ppl are quick to dismiss as being in and of itself sexist bc they're pairing the two girls off together#as if batgirl isn't a legacy and as if babs and steph don't have parallels in their resilience and refusal to accept when ppl tell them no#for better and for worse!!#like. idk how you took the strongest feminist element in that comic (bc there are elements of sexism here and there! 2009 n all)#and somehow turn it into ''heteronormativity'' YOU PPL ARE JUST SAYING WORDS AT THIS POINT!!!#anyway. someone take away my internet access

i love the bias + the fan pairings so much because on the surface its very "oh, well, the bias just has to fall for the fan and then its happily ever after" but no! its way more fun than that!
the fan isnt in love with the bias. in fact, the fan doesnt view this world as reality, nor do they even view their bias as a human. the fun part of this pairing is the fan having to recognize the world they live in as their new reality and the people around them as people! the bias falling for the fan is just part one, the fan falling for the bias as an Actual Human Being is just as important an element

hm well if you must have the characters in your nineteenth-century novel call each other by their first names, then it is nice when they happen to have first names that are very easily taken for surnames
#leeward liveblog#<- mostly I put boatbook reacting over on my other blog (cool-as-steel) but I thought that this one would be of more interest here#I read luzula's review of it on dreamwidth and while the shall/will ratio isn't something I've really found breaks my immersion#the first names thing definitely does. which is unfortunate because I am otherwise very much enjoying it thus far#maybe it is just because I find calling people by title + surname (and being called that way) very pleasant so the lack of that feels odd#one of the reasons I enjoy historically-set media is probably because those very clear conversational structures when it comes to names#are something that I often lack in real life and so it makes the reading smoother for me#if we have progressing layers of professionalism and intimacy then it's like putting a nice crisp label on things [it's the autism]#aaaanyway some of this is definitely since I have been Pondering about title + surname stuff for my own gender ponderment reasons of late#so perhaps I am just Noticing too much. but who can say.

Triton (heir to the throne) Crown Prince- Aipria
Benthesikyme (oldest girl, heiress should Triton have no children) Crown Princess- Avineha
Rhodos (only slightly younger than Benthesikyme, very close to her) Princess- Avineh
Kymopoleia (a fair bit younger than the three above, a gap before her birth and theirs) Princess- Avineh
Khrysaor (a fair bit younger than Kym) Prince- Aipri
Herophile (very close in age to Khrysaor) Princess- Avineh
And of course, now Persi
Persi (the youngest by far) Prince- Aipri

spheres of fandom discussion are so different
our small discord for a fandom, which is mostly focused on one character group the fandom at large isn’t that into, has been super-analyzing some new official art which just dropped for the characterization insights and symbolism it contains and people are making incredible observations that leave me in awe and pointing out all sorts of brilliant connections
on the super big server I’m on (~200x bigger membership) for the same fandom, very few people mentioned this art/announcement, I think no one actually posted it before I did, and there was no analyzing going on other than remarking some of it was cute [edit: I feel obliged to note that finally, later, after the third time someone else posted the art there was a bit of discussion.)
in general new official art releases aren’t a topic of excitement or discussion there, even if it’s been a long time since other official material like a new manga chapter was released. they do like to discuss things there! a lot! but it’s much more along the lines of seeking to telegraph or predict future plot developments and analyzing powersets, gadgets, relics, and definite details of the worldbuilding, much more so than characterization and interpersonal relationships, and relatively little looking back at or reconsidering the cast members who have exited the stage
I think the difference is interesting
#i also sometimes think we as a group draw as much fanart for this title as everyone in the big server put together#part of it might be how much of my server is artists and writers lol#and also how much is ppl open to fic and shipping (big server generally doesn’t care for this)#…..idk if it might also make a difference that most of our server is women and nonbinary people#people way smarter than me have written about gendered breakdowns of fandom activity#i don’t have the brain cells to analyze that rn tho#orphan hole tag#this is of course about the ganja squad server and r/madeinabyss server
