Royal Tiaras Highlights: The Kent Festoon Tiara
The provinance of this tiara is unknown. It is believed it was created circa 1900 by Cartier but how it came to be in the Kent family remains a mystery. The piece was frequently worn by Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, who also would occasionaly loan it to her daughter, Princess Alexandra.
When Marina died in 1968, the tiara was given to her son, Prince Michael of Kent. The Michaels of Kent have apparently altered the tiara, removing the diamond row at the base and adding a row of pearls instead.

The Queen laughs as she watches a fly past with the Duke of Edinburgh. On her other side is the Duchess of Gloucester (in uniform as Chief Commandant of the Women's Royal Air Force), and the Duke of Gloucester (in uniform as Air Chief Marshall). The Duke of Edinburgh is in the uniform of Marshall of the RAF. Right of Prince Philip are the Duchess of Kent and (extreme right) Princess Alexandra, aged 16. The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, carried out the Coronation Review of the Royal Air Force, at RAF Station, Odiham, Hampshire. Wishing a very happy birthday to Princess Alexandra who turns 87 today!🎂🎊
Alexandra Helen Elizabeth Olga Christabel was born on 25 December 1936 at 3 Belgrave Square, London. Her parents are Prince George, Duke of Kent and Princess Marina Duchess of Kent. He was born exactly two weeks after his uncle King Edward VIII abdicated from the throne.
His father died in a plane crash in Caithness, Scotland, on 25 August 1942, while serving in the Royal Air Force. So when she married Angus Ogilvy on April 24 1963 she was escorted down the aisle at Westminster Abbey by her brother, Prince Edward, The Duke of Kent. From his marriage she has two children, namely James and Marina Ogilvy.
Throughout her life she dedicated herself to helping the Queen, who was her cousin, work, one of which was when she represented the Queen when Nigeria gained independence from Britain on 1 October 1960, and opened the first Parliament on 3 October. In May 2023, he appeared with other working members of the royal family in photos taken after the coronation of King Charles III, having attended the event later that day.
