Day Five - Favourite Family Dynamic: Anne and her brother George Boleyn The pair were close and similar in temperament, sharing the same intellectual and aesthetic interests, and developing a passion for ‘new learning’ – the liberation from the old dominant way of thinking – that was inspired by the Renaissance. Perhaps the strongest evidence of their bond can be found in two religious texts by the French humanist Jacques Lefèvre d’Étaples, which Anne asked her brother to translate. These beautifully bound works from George to Anne still survive in the British Library, and not only suggest was a man capable of deep spirituality, but also a devoted brother. Scenes from new movie starring Sir Anthony Hopkins shot in Whitehead

Filming has taken place in Whitehead for a new movie featuring acclaimed actors Sir Anthony Hopkins and Matthew GoodE.

Whitehead Railway Museum was the recent setting for scenes from ‘Freud’s Last Session’.

Set on the eve of World War Two in 1939, the film sees Sigmund Freud (Sir Anthony) invite Belfast-born Christian author CS Lewis for a debate on the existence of God. Having taken up the invite, CS Lewis, played by Goode, was present at Whitehead - suitably dressed as a rural Oxfordshire station - in order to catch the train to see Freud.

Also present were many extras, including a platoon of soldiers, a class of primary school children dressed for evacuation, and some of their ‘mothers’ to see them off.

100-year-old steam engine No. 461 was used in the Whitehead film shoot (archive image).

The station building, which normally houses Platform 3 restaurant, underwent a makeover so that it looked like a period 1930s English railway halt.

The Railway Preservation Society of Ireland (RPSI) laid on a train of 100-year-old steam engine No. 461, which is usually on display at the museum, plus three heritage carriages and a luggage van.

The locomotive was out of steam but fitted with a steam machine, while the RPSI’s train rides steam engine No. 3BG was on hand to shunt the train up and down the siding as required. The train had to be filmed in three main positions:

Sitting stationary at the platform whilst passengers / evacuees embarked and disembarked;

Departing with CS Lewis aboard (in daylight);

Arriving back with CS Lewis having met Freud (in the dark).

The weather was bright and sunny for the daylight shoots, and calm for the filming after darkness fell. The work was completed by 10.30pm [April 18, 2023] and a cheer went up from the cast and crew because this was the final sequence in the shoot.

Lisa Adair, RPSI general manager, said: “We are regularly in demand from film-makers because we can provide steam engines and vintage carriages. We are always pleased to be able to assist.

“We are told that Freud’s Last Session will be released around December, so we look forward to seeing the finished product in the cinema.”

The wind that shakes the barley was powerful. It started out heavy and ended heavy. Really well done well acted. Pretty solid historical accuracy with a subject not well known or understood outside of Ireland. I was enthralled from start until end. I literally gasped when Damien walked out of the church after questioning the priest. It was such a powerful scene. I was crying with Teddy at the end

I’m not a fan of long movies but even with a bit over 2 hour run time I would have loved another hour. It was that good

this is cover of knighfall tie-in novel.

but imagine, (since the initial plan was to write series of books like assassin creed):

knightfall books but make it several different editions - covers like one that exists but with either landry or gawain or tancred or any other character in same style on cover (but main trio is a must.)

it would be fun

It would be collectable

It would bring life and buzz to fandom by making people excited about merch and something different and new to talk about and post online

What a missed opportunity.

Rosalyn51 Note: Freud’s Last Session producer, Meg Thomson, revealed yesterday (April 22, 2023) that her two boys are actually playing Warren “Warnie” and C. S. “Jack” Lewis in their childhood years. Director: Matt (Matthew) Brown.

Matthew GoodE and Padraic Delaney will portray Jack and Warnie in their adult years in the film. In addition, the talented Rhys Mannion will play Jack around the World War I era (his father told me on Twitter). Haha, can you imagine there are TWO “younger” versions of Matthew GoodE now?

Other cast members are Liv Lisa Fries as Anna Freud, and Jodi Balfour as Dorothy Burlingham. Of course, the legendary Anthony Hopkins is Sigmund Freud! Still waiting for confirmation of Jeremy Northam, Stephen Campbell Moore, Tarek Bishara, and Orla Bray’s respective roles. (My speculation - JN as Lewis’ father, Albert James Lewis, or tutor in Surrey, William T. Kirkpatrick? SCM as J. R. R. Tolkien? TB as Ernst Freud? and Orla Bray as Mrs. Janie Moore?)

The film is currently in post production. Release date to be announced. Stay tuned!
