”The Wooden Wonder”

The de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito was introduced 15 November 1941 and served the RAF in many roles including fighter-bomber, night fighter,attack aircraft, and photo reconnaissance platform. Unusual in that its frame was constructed mostly of wood, it was nicknamed the "Wooden Wonder” or "Mossie" Retired in 1963. Of the 7,781 aircraft built, 30 survive today, only four of which are airworthy. Eight aircraft are currently under restoration.
