I serve as a Regional Facilitator over WA and OR for The National Center for Family Integrated Churches. Here's part of a message Scott Brown sent that reveals why I feel privileged to serve in this position: "In the midst of the fads and movements that roll through the church; the remarkable personalities that sometimes rise up; the big events that capture people’s attention; the galvanizing propositions… (I’ve seen many of these roll through town over my five decades in Christ)... still the most important matter in my mind is what happens day by day in a local church. The biblical functionality of a church and a family lived out day by day, week by week, month by month is the most important 'movement.' It happens by slow growth and it always outperforms the gripping amazing stadium performance of the next big movement and the personality that draws thousands. This is our work with churches and families. It is small, regular, slow, step by step and relatively unknown to the rest of the world. But, hopefully, it is real." #ncfic #localchurch #faithful (at The National Center for Family Integrated Churches) https://www.instagram.com/p/BvhGgUtBKzj/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=145bkvq55uwu7

Okay, this is kinda a complicated one. Most fundies believe in what's called a family integrated church. The basic idea is that children and parents shouldn't be separated for church, and children from the time they are newborns should participate in the normal church services with their parents. Wikipedia sums it up nicely:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, no Sunday school or baby creche or Vacation Bible School, for instance.
One of the major proponents of this kind of church rose in prominence around the turn of the century. That organization is called NCFIC and was run by Scott Brown, who had ties to the now defunct Vision Forum. The Brown family was a major leader in fundieism a decade ago.
Again, I'm impressed by Wikipedia's summation here:
Tumblr media
Basically, these people really hate youth groups, Sunday School, VBS, and that kind of thing. That's why often it's the older kids jobs to keep the younger kids in line at church, through whatever means necessary. You can only imagine what must be involved in terms of discipline to keep a two year old quiet for a three hour church service, particularly one geared toward adults.
Anyway, if you want to read more, NCIFC has you covered. Beware the creepiness!

Youth Ministry

Voddie Baucham on Youth Ministry
Question:
"Where are we today in the 21st century American Church?"
V.B.
"Basically we've come to a place where we've seen the institutionalization of the youth, and of the Church, where people cannot comprehend a Church without these age-graded ministries. We understand it as the norm. We can think of no other way of doing Church. Unfortunately, we've also done that in a midst of a model that has proven over the years to be unsuccessful, so we note that the more money we spend on youth ministers, the more people we train and employ in these ministries, the worst off we are at evangelizing and retaining teenagers."
Raising The Bar
Alvin L. Reid, in his book, "Raising the Bar: Ministry to Youth in the New Millennium", notes that the 18th-century youth ministry institution that has been created has been grossly unsuccessful. He writes, "young people are not children finishing childhood; they're young adults preparing for adulthood, and they will rise to the bar we set for them. We can give them encouragement through a word of praise, a pat on the back, or a hug. But sometimes the best encouragement is a kick in the pants."
Reid acknowledges and addresses the Biblical ramifications of an institutionalized youth ministry, arguing that "youth in church are under-challenged and treated as children. We can raise the bar to produce biblical champions." He continues, "more seeds of ministry are sown in youth between the ages of twelve and eighteen, more relationships forged that affect their future, more choices made with long-term implications, than arguably any other period in life. These are the years when young adults begin to think about issues that will influence the rest of their lives.”
A Prayer:
Lord,
As You so graciously prepare me for a season of ministering and service to young, eager hearts, I ask and pray that it would be YOU who leads me, guides me, shapes me, and conforms me to the image of the Son, Jesus Christ, through Your Word and by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Lord, you know our every need and you supply them according to the riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). Help me to teach what accords with sound doctrine (Titus 2:1) and help me to serve and glorify you, bearing the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.
Keep me in step with You, oh Lord, and let me not become conceited (Galatians 5:22-23,25-26). Lead me to be a steward of Your Word, through which The Spirit gives life (John 6:63). Help me not to be anxious, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, letting my requests be made known to God (Philippians 4:6).
Teach me to pray as Jesus prayed in John 17:17, "Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth." You are deserving of all the honor, glory, and praise Lord.
May your Kingdom come and Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Amen.

Steve is tired. He is so fucking tired. How the hell had he let Tommy H talk him into throwing a small get together to celebrate graduating is beyond him. They weren’t even friends anymore. But the truth was, Steve didn’t want to spend the night alone in his big empty house. His parents couldn’t bother coming home for the ceremony, he was single, and his only real friend was a curly-haired child that was busy playing D&D with other children. So against his better judgment he let Tommy use his house for a party.
It was loud, out of control, and reminded Steve that the last time he was at a party like this, he got his heart broken. All in all, not a great way to spend a couple of hours and he was starting to regret agreeing to this party in the first place. When the cops finally came to shut things down, he was relieved. He would deal with the mess and the inevitable we are very disappointed in you Stephen phone call tomorrow. He just wanted to go to bed. The only problem was, someone was already in it.
“Seriously!?! I’ve got four bedrooms in this house and you had to choose mine to hook up in? Whatever, I don’t care, just wash the sheets whenever you and whatever girl you have hiding in the closet are done. I’ll sleep on the couch.”
The guy - Eddie Munson Steve thinks, laughs without humor. “Yeah there is definitely not a girl hiding in the closet up here. Your asshole friends did this to me. Right after they stole my supply.”
“Holy shit! Are you okay dude? Why didn’t you call for help?” Steve looks back and forth around the room as if a key will just magically appear out of thin air.
“I’m fine, King Steve, just stuck. Stuck in high school and stuck in your painfully boring …bedroom? Shit I could have sworn this was a guest room. To answer your other question the music was too loud and when the cops came to break things up - well, let’s just say I didn’t want to save them the trouble of cuffing me.”
Steve snorts as he settles on the bed with a safety pin and tries to fiddle with the lock. “Yeah I guess that wouldn’t have ended well. I’m sorry. Though I have to admit, it’s a little comforting to know someone is having a worse night than me. They aren’t mine by the way.” Steve says.
“The cuffs? Yeah, I'm pretty sure they belong to that punk Andy. Who is NEVER getting weed from me again. Not that these are even a real set. I think if you just push the safety pin in all the way and shake it back and forth aggressively these will pop open.”
Steve tilts his head in consideration then gives it a shot. “No. I meant, they aren’t my friends.”
“Bold statement, considering apart from Andy you don’t know who else did this.”
“Yeah well, unless you got cornered by a thirteen-year-old without collarbones, I can safely say I wasn’t friends with whoever did this.”
Eddie looks puzzled for a minute before continuing, “Aww come on Stevie, I’m sure you have lots of friends. Look how many people were here tonight.”
This time it’s Steve who laughs without humor. “Yeah they’re my friends all right. You’re also here. Does that make us friends Munson?”
“Well your surprisingly less annoying than l thought you'd would be.” Eddie smiles. Just as the handcuffs spring open.
Steve cheers “sweet” and Eddie rubs his wrists. Then he reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a joint.
Steve smiles, “I thought they stole your supply.”
“Not what I had in my pockets.” He passes it to Steve who raises an eyebrow. “Consider it a graduation gift, friend.” Eddie walks to the door and turns back before walking through the doorway. “Good night, Steve.”
End Notes:
Props to @steddiealltheway who wrote a wonderful Eddie meets Steve handcuffed to his bed tumblr post ~ turned fic. This got my friends talking that Steddie fics should make meeting handcuffed to a bed a trope. This is my contribution from towards that.

Steve: Hey Jonathan. Can I ask you something?
Jonathan: I guess.
Steve: If Nancy bought you flowers, would that be cool or lame?
Jonathan: Steve if this is some kind of joke about my masculinity-
Steve: It’s not. I honestly want to know if you would like getting flowers even though you’re a guy. Robin is my go to for this kind of thing, but she can’t really offer her perspective here - and I don’t have many guy friends that aren’t children.
Jonathan: Well in that case, I think it would be really cool. I’m surprised you didn’t just ask Eddie though. You two seem glued at the hip lately.
Steve: Yeah.
Jonathan: Ohhhhhh. Cool.

Steve: You are such a nerd.
Eddie: Admit it, it’s why you love me.
Steve: Excuse me?
Eddie: Think about it Harrington. Everyone you love, or have ever loved, in any way, is a nerd.
Steve: Nancy was …
Eddie: The smartest over achiever we know. She may be cool, but she is still a nerd.
Steve: Lucas is on the basketball team.
Eddie: And in Hellfire Club
Steve: . . .
Eddie: 😁
Steve: Max! Max is super cool. In your face Munson. In your stupid face.
Eddie: 😁
Steve: Why are you smiling? I found someone I love that isn’t a nerd.
Eddie: you also basically admitted you love me.
Steve: You didn’t already know that? Some nerd you are.

Steve Harrington is many things: a jock, a good time, a dethroned king, a pretty damn good babysitter. One thing he is not is a nerd.
Eddie Munson disagrees.

A Matter of Trust
Tumblr media
I forgot to share this here, but @sunlightsymphony @amanita-fierce and I had the best time creating this for our dear friend @landofsonlali's birthday!
Summary: “Trust falls take away your control. You have let go and depend on somebody else to step in and catch you. But you’ve got nothing to offer them in return. So they have to do it because you’re worth catching, and-”
“You’re worth catching,” Robin cuts him off. Word Count: 1,435 Pod Length: 9:55
