THE MYSTIC VEG
THE MYSTIC VEG
What do these stalks foretell? I have long firmly maintained that truth is stranger than fiction. For example: Jemima Packington (who titles her psychic services as ‘Mystic Veg’) makes her predictions by tossing stalks of asparagus up into the air, and studies the patterns formed when they land. I suppose her method is no stranger than a Sangoma tossing the bones, or the ancient Romans…

John the Baptist's Wilderness Vegetarian Diet Explained - Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcast
Tumblr media
Not A Caveman Fixated on Bugs and Bees After All: John the Baptist's Wilderness Vegetarian Diet - Locust Beans Not Bugs - An Exploration of Early Christian Writings and Scholarly Texts Today on This Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcast.
Nevermind the old Sunday school notion of John the Baptist being some weird caveman dude dining on bugs! John may have a tarnished caveman reputation of eating locusts and honey out in the wild, but this is really a story about copyists mistranslating a Greek word as "locust" ('a-k-r-i-d-e-s') instead of "carob" ('e-g-k-r-i-d-e-s'). (Henry Ford: "Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young." Albert Einstein: "Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease only at death.")
Since my original research on this topic, a couple more early Christian apocryphal writings have come to light, have been made available in English. These add to the surprisingly large collection of vegetarian references in early Christian writings regarding the diet of John the Baptist. New Testament Apocrypha, Vol. III, by Tony Burke was published and some John the Baptist books are included. In one of the earlier volumes there was a John the Baptist text made available for the first time in English that has a vegetarian passage regarding John's diet in the wilderness. Included in the third volume are, The Birth of Holy John the Forerunner, and, The Decapitation of John the Forerunner, both containing plant-based passages about John's diet consisting of "locusts from the tree" (in the Middle east called "the Saint John's Tree", and "Carob Tree") and "wild honey", also "an abundance of bread and wild honey dripping from a rock". Clearly there was an understanding in early Christianity that this was referring to locust beans (carob pods), not insects. Carob pods do look a bit like locusts hanging from tree branches, hence the name. Locust beans can be ground up and used to make a kind of Middle eastern carob flour flat bread. There's a "cakes dipped in honey" reference in the Gospel of the Ebionites. The wild "honey" was not from bees but sticky desert fruit of some kind. So, as you'll hear being documented during this pod...cast, there are all these plant-based references to John's diet coming from many different sources, and scholars have noticed and discussed these: "Probably the most interesting of the changes from the familiar New Testament accounts of Jesus comes in the Gospel of the Ebionites description of John the Baptist, who, evidently, like his successor Jesus, maintained a strictly vegetarian cuisine." (Professor Bart Ehrman, Lost Christianities: The Battles for Scripture and the Faiths We Never Knew) "His [John the Baptist's] food was wild honey that tasted like manna, like a cake cooked in olive oil." (The Other Gospels, Accounts of Jesus from Outside the New Testament, by Bart Ehrman)
John the Baptist was a prophet with large number of followers in Israel and Transjordan regions. After his passing, several of his successors headed what became various rival Nasoraean (Nazorean) sects, one of those being Jesus and the Jesus movement. "Again Jesus said to his disciples: Truly I say to you, among all those born of women none has arisen greater than John the Baptizer." (Matthew 11:11, George Howard's translation of Shem-Tob's Hebrew Gospel of Matthew, described as "the oldest extant Hebrew version of the Gospel of Matthew")

Podcast and YouTube: Vegan and Veg Passages From Unexpected Sources (Middle East, and Christianity)
Tumblr media
Explored today: a vegan poem from the Syrian philosopher Abu al-'Ala' al-Ma'arri; a vegetarian saying of Jesus from an early Aramaic manuscript of the Gospel of Luke; an observation about the vegetarian ethics of John the Baptist and Jesus made by Prof. Bart D. Ehrman in his highly influential book, Lost Christianities: The Battles for Scripture and the Faiths We Never Knew; a very pro-vegetarian quote from Saint Jerome, translator of the Latin Vulgate Bible no less; also from Saint Basil the Great; Discussion about the Gospel of the Hebrews and Gospel of the Ebionites; The Golden Verses of Pythagoras on why spiritual paths that seek to rise above body-consciousness advocate vegan or vegetarian ethics; The Sattvic Diet 2.0 For the 21st Century: How the Vegetarian Movement is Upgrading to Vegan Including in Sant Mat and Radhasoami; a mystic-poem of Darshan Singh from Love's Last Madness on the upward pull of evolution and compassion that seeks to reduce human and animal suffering in the world; and an amazing ancient Ode from the Ebionite Jewish-Christian Book of Acts (Recognitions of Clement) praising those in India, kindred souls of faith and gnosis: brothers and sisters "in the Indian countries" following the Way of the Saints (Path of the Masters).

Down by the Water
Hello again! This is the second fic of my 100 Follower Fics! This one is brought to you by @blingywitch she's a cutie.
She wanted something Mystical and cute, the first thing I thought of was nymphs, so here we go.
Characters belong to @lumosinlove of course
Background info:
Logan: Rock nymph who has been in love with watching leaves flutter his whole life. Water is his second favorite thing to watch, he loves to watch the free movement he can’t always have.
Finn: Tree nymph who has always loved the smell of the earth and the strength it has. Water makes him feel strong, keeps him alive.
Leo: Half river nymph half human, shunned by the villagers for his natural talent with the water. So, he has to forage for food because no one will sell to him. Parents are deceased.
Barefoot, the soil from the earth finding its way between his toes, Leo was digging for some roots to make a stew. Sitting a little ways away from the river on a pile of rocks, he was enjoying the shade from the red maple that covered the rocks. Without thinking he reached his hand up towards the sky, water slowly made its way over to his fingertips. He held the root he just harvested with one hand while the other waved a finger towards the root, telling the water to wash the dirt from the potential food. Once the root was clean he relaxed his hand, water falling on the rocks next to him, seeming into the soil under his feet.
“How did you do that?” A voice from beside Leo caused him to jump and fall off the rocks into the soil he was just digging in, causing his basket full of clean veg to roll onto the forest floor. Leo groans annoyed, he looks up to the person who scared him, expecting a normal curious person who has never met him before, he was taken off guard.
The man in front of him was no man, but a rare male nymph. He had medium grey skin that matched the rocks of the river bank, his eyes were the same sharp green of the moss and the hair on his head was a different shade of grey that made his eyes even more startling. He was wearing a simple dirty white toga wrapped around his strong left shoulder, showing off his literal chiseled chest. He was gorgeous. Leo also noticed the sun was shining on the nymph which it shouldn’t because of the tree-
“You can’t just scare people like that Lo.” A tall lean man was standing where the tree was swaying a few seconds ago, the pale skin with freckles matched the bark of the tree. His hair was as bright and fiery as the leaves of the sacred maple, his eyes a sweet brown like syrup. Almost bronze. The brown toga he wore made his creamy skin even more delicate looking. Leo blinked up at him when he held out a hand for him. “I’m Finn, also known as the maple you read under sometimes.” His smile was like poison, burning Leo’s blood all the way to his heart.
“I’m Lo” Another strong hand grabbed Leo’s other hand drawing his attention back to those deadly green eyes. “Also known as the rock you rest on.” He smiles as well and Leo feels like he’s about to pass out.
“I’m Leo.” The two nymphs shared a look of excitement, then both looked back at the younger boy.
“We know.”

I feel bad for sending so many messages, I don't wanna stress you out or anything. What do you think of the new fanfic, do you like it? Oh, and how was your day? Have some autumnal hugs ✨✨ - ⭐️
I don't mind like chatty asks or anything, if it's a request, it's sitting in the inbox because I already have a few drafts on the go, and uni's about to kick off, so i won't have as much time to write as i did over the summer.
I really enjoyed the fic, it was super cute and the chaos in it? *chefs kiss*
My day is... well I realised i hate our dryer because it doesn't have a timer on, so I'm going by ear and waiting for it to end, because I have stuff in the washer to go in on another dryer cycle and ughhh. I went to get food though, got a lot of fruit and veg (i don't eat enough of it) and... well the ice cream lowkey cancels it all out but i just ate half of it, so...shush...🥴🤫
How's your day going Mystic? Thank you for the autumnal hugs by the way✨✨

Hopefully you find this fun 😉 have great day
Yeah that sounds pretty cool! I don't think they'd ever do that but it'd be cool fanart I think :)

Happy Yule!
I have plans to cook a nice Yule Feast tonight for my family and I, but I don’t really know what to do beyond that. I know that I don’t have to do anything if I don’t want to or don’t feel up to it, but I genuinely enjoy doing activities to celebrate the Sabbats and such. Any suggestions?
Also, I had really vivid dreams last night. I don’t fully remember them but I get bits and pieces and it’s just very odd. They were so fantastical and there were definitely elements of survival, overcoming difficulty and obstacles, even a concept of like war in some ways, and it was full of magic and mysticism and fantasy themes. It was very intense, and as I’m waking up, I am definitely noticing it affecting the tone and emotions of my day.
sorry if this is weird but first of all you are really beautiful
secondly I agree that cooking at least 1 nice dish really makes the day. It’s just any other day we really don’t have themed dinners so it kind of makes it more special.
When planning feasts I take into account how many people I am serving and dietary restrictions so if it’s a feast for myself I usually think of like 1 main dish including some veggies and a dessert since I can’t eat too much alone (I’ve tried and ended many sabbats with stomach aches lol). If it’s family/friends gathering then it’s usually like 2 veggie dishes, usually 1 being cooked veggies, another being a salad of some kind or for the colder months a puree like mashed potatoes, a meat main or if they are non meat eaters then a casserole bake of some kind and then I love baking for dessert cause it fills the house with a nice smell.
-
For yule’s 2 veg dishes you can do like roasted parsnips and brussel sprouts with rosemary and pine & mashed potatoes (add truffle and/or cheese if your fam eats cheese). Everyone likes 1 whitish veg with cheese on it for this time of year for some reason like maybe it’s the visual of it being wintery. In England cheesy cauliflower is like a staple for food this time of year.
Then for a main you can do a roast with red wine, chopped shallots and butter. If you guys do not eat meat then maybe something like a mushroom pot pie. I think you can get vegan puff pastry from a super market and just roll it out on top of a pie dish with sauteed veggies and mushrooms and voila lol. I think it’s the same vibe for mushroom wellington but I’ve never attempted at making a wellington in my life (let alone knew what it was until I moved here) but it looks like a nice filling vegetarian/vegan main dish for yule. (It’s basically a ‘meatloaf/veggieloaf’ wrapped in puff pastry). An even easier thing you could put together could be a veggieloaf and add some seasonal sauces on it and make it super buttery and full of spices.
Depending on how much you like to cook and how much work you feel like doing you can either get a nice yule log at the market (they usually have some good creamy ones) or if you know a nice bakery by you check if they have any. Yule Logs can be sooo incredibly good, super easy to dish out at the end of the night and have with some icecream. If you can’t find one nor feel like buying it, you can toss together some red velvet cake. It’s the easiest festive cake I can think of that will be nice to put together next to all the food you’ll have to cook. Either red velvet (which is just a red chocolate cake with cream cheese lets be honest haha), a black forest cake (chocolate, cherries and cream) or a ginger bread cake depending on your preference. You can find the mixes ready made or if you have the flour, sugar, baking powder, eggs, oil and milk its not too hard to make the batter for a plain cake and add the additional flavorings/colorings after. Alternatively you could end the feast with an array of cookies and hot chocolate since this holiday is big on cookies. Cookies can take way more effort to put together but they are a chance to be creative, combine arts and crafts with food and definitely make the house smell incredible.
Another dessert idea is a sugar pear tart (get yourself the roll-out pastry and save yourself the time), it can be really easy to put together cause all you have to do is chop some pears and put them in a bag to soak with sugar, spices and wine. Let it sit for a few hours (probably as you cook the other stuff) then just throw the pastry over your pie-tin, add some jam to the bottom if you have any and line up the pears inside and bake for like 30min.
Also I don’t know if your family enjoys drinking but maybe dishing out some mulled wine before the food can get them feeling festive and build up an appetite for the food to come. You just got to simmer some red wine with spices and sliced fruit. (It’s like a hot sangria haha). Alternatively there’s a lot of festive easy drinks you can toss together if they would like a cocktail like gin + cranberry and ginger ale will taste like a holiday candle. Whiskey + Ginger beer and cinnamon will work amazingly too. White Rum + Eggnog will go great for sweeter and creamier drinks, just add some simple syrup to the mix to smooth it out (or apply like light amounts of rum cause it could overpower the eggnog). Anyway if your family already has ~the liquor cabinet~ maybe see if there is anything in there you can turn into a festive drink or just get some mulled wine going.
.
Also about your dreams it’s interesting you brought up war cause I definitely felt that vibe. Your dreams sound really insightful though. I am working on my 2021 year spread right now and there is some intense themes but that also could be cause of my Saturn Return is this year :/
Anyway I hope you have a great Yule! It’s wonderful that you are cooking for your family.

Kingdom au/ kinda sickly au too: Bruce Wayne is king, each year after his parents deaths people leave their offerings at the tomb. He happens to be visiting when a baby is left there (this is after adopting Dick), Wayne already has a very bored heir, but what could one more hurt. Besides this one is smaller, much smaller than any baby he has kissed. The baby is Jason Todd. Dick was jealous in the beginning, but his baby brother is fragile and needs his care, lots of care.
Wait wait wait anon, let me untangle this, because there’s a lot of ideas here I like:O
Bruce is a King, okay, but is he a King people leave babies as votives for?? :O
So, how about he’s some mystical King of the land - maybe a dark, dark Gotham forest. He’s something like a fae king, or maybe just a very old being that punished harshly these that exploit his woods and these that enter them and are not respectful and these that are criminals. No better way to figure out if someone is a criminal bastard than have them walk thought the forest and see if they get out on the other side. Innocents do, but only innocents.
And so there are shrines build for the Bat around the woods for the villagers living close to leave gifts and votives and so on for the being they wanted to keep on their side. And they were usually fruit&veg, toys, clothes, some silver trinkets, etc. whatever the people had they could live without. And Dick loved these. He loved to go around the shrines after the harvest and see what the people had left for them to play with - he loved the trinkets above all else. Alfred appreciated the fruit and Bruce was generally wishing people could stop leaving the things they so obviously needed and focus on their own situation - people of the villages were not rich, he wanted them to live good lives.
But then one night, because Dick was older now and moody and they had an argument, Bruce was the one to visit the shrines - he needed to show the people that he respected their gifts.
And that’s when he finds that one shrine was, well, occupied. By a toddler.
A human child laying under a small rickety awing, thin like a rail and dressed in a used-up rag, shivering in the night cool.
Bruce was struck. What was happening? What was this? He’d never even implied that he’d accept this sort of a sacrifice! Did the child simply stopped to sleep in the shrine when the night came? No, it was too small to come all the way from the village, it was more than two miles. A baby this small and weak, and why would it even be there?
The conclusion was singular - the child was left there. Someone brought the child there and left it with the rest of the gifts. Some of the gifts - fruit and veg - were eaten, some of them had chunks missing - was the child so hungry?
Bruce wasn’t angry, there was no better way to use the produce than to feed this tiny starving being.
Still in shock and confused to boot, he decided to take the child with him. In the morning he’d ask the birds living nearby if they’ve seen what occurred, but the boy could not be left alone in the night, he was shaking already, even asleep. He bundled the child into his long, warm coat and took off for home.
If anything, Alfred will be happy with another little one to feed.

This is defination of meal ...Veg meal !!
All mystics said human body is the temple of living god and just imagine when meat and blood boils in kitchen .....Do you think peace will visit .... ???
As long as demand is needed supply will be there ....If we don't follow our sense of tounge then why they need to kill the speechless animals ...??
We buy for our taste that's why they kill and hence both parties are responsible equally and both will go through the terrible pain of consequences of karmas .... Because karmas spares no one ....Either me either you ....No mercy in terms of karmas !!
Nothing is free here so act mindfully .

Life After Bond 10 - Tamamo no Mae
So this has been rusting in my drafts for at least a year and didn’t age well. Given the bashing my most overworked support (and she was having reached bond 10 at the same time as Waver), I feel a need to defend her.
Casko has a few things people aren’t considering. The first is she is a regular summon. Both she and Waver (and Jeanne because everyone forgets her even more and Castoria is probably the final nail in her coffin more than Casko’s) are in the regular pool and thus people have more access to her already.
Second she is lucky that another shares part of her skill.
No, I did not drink cactus juice. I’m serious about this.
You want to know the hard part of double Skadi so far? During events it’s finding another Skadi who at least has third skill maxed and as high as the first one they can go AND the right CE. With Castoria it puts off the stress because you have options of double Tamamo, double Castoria, or the less stressful of the options, one of each. Hell if you have both, you can afford to be even less picky about who you shove in the support slot in the back line because you can make your own double 50% Arts boost.
Third, part of playing Arts comps is the flexibility of it all. You want to do infinite turtle? You can do that. You want to loop damage? You want to 3 turn? You want to keep reviving from the dead? All these are options with Arts. It’s not as stringent as Quick or Buster where you have to hit faster or harder to win. You get creative. You don’t even have to go into high investment of your Servants right away. An option of that flexibility is Casko’s heal as she has one in her NP and one in her skill. You will need a healer because if you’re dwindling health and have no debuff removal skill that isn’t the NP, you’re going to die to burns, poisons, AOE regular attacks etc.
Fourth, her NP is still very good because her NP recycle is based off overcharge. In most setups you could easily get 30-40% recharge and the skill cool down before looping in another of her NP. If DW deigns to give her another buff, just have her reduce cooldowns by two, like the Atlas Academy Mystic Code (they already replaced the Mages Association one’s unique skill with Bunny Arturia so it is a possibility).
In Arts meta everyone has their spot while yes some outperform others depending on situation. Georgios was always my favourite tank before Jeanne. Medea Lily serves as a better healer than Casko and Jeanne. Waver and Merlin can join in without much readjustment. Reines, Jeanne, and Nero Bride added non-Caster options for pesky Saber Alter CQs and Rider nodes. But they’re all pieces.
Lastly those of us who kept Tamamo up in our support slots even with summoning new meta in Merlin and Skadi aren’t going to give her up. Believe me I’ve tried and she deserves her break from me using her (I headcanon she’s in her room finally vegging out after all those long Unlimited Arts Stalls) and I probably won’t break her out again till bond 15 or it’s an emergency. I still keep her in my support slot because IRL friends prefer to use her for the heal and NP refund. I do look forward to using her again this winter. I’ve budgeted enough rare prisms so I can use Waver, Scathach, and Casko again because I enjoy them.
