some winter headcannons of these kids
melchior: that one kid that you see wearing shorts, somehow hes never cold. his coat is open a lot of the time because he just feels like it. the boys used to look up to him now they just find it annoying
wendla: ear warmers girl, when she was young they used to have animals on them, now they dont but she does have ones with a flower on the poof part. she also uses it to keep her hair out of her face on days that its still warm enough to wear lose
moritz: always wearing fingerless gloves, thick ones for outside and thinner ones for when hes inside. he often forgets to switch them either making his hands really warm and having a hard time writing or having very cold hands. doesnt start wearing a scarf until he gets his first cold of the season and then only wears in quickly thrown around, always puts up the hood of his shirt and jacket
ilse: still has an old infinity scarf that she loves and refuses to get rid of mainly cuz it was handmade and hold great value to her because of it, it was one of her first projects and shes really proud of it
anna: always has a blanket with her to keep her legs warm cuz he has bad circulation, only ever lends it out to marha. they always used it for making pillow fords or picnicking inside when they were younger
ernst: coldest boy always bundled up and getting a warm drink as soon as he gets inside. he starts wearing layers very soon into the year. has stolen his fiends sweaters multiple times claiming that they are "warmer then his own"
hanschen: long coat boy, has always worn the less bulky winter clothes cuz his mother thinks they look nicer, but started wearing long ones after his growth spurt because that was the time he definitely couldnt fit into his old one anymore. sometimes kids trip on it when hes walking down the stairs but hes tripped himself plenty of times as well.
georg: beanies always has cold ears eventho hes never seen without a beanie, the teachers think its the most annoying thing ever
otto: still has those mittens that go through your sleeves with a cord because he loses them otherwise. hes an absolute menice when they have snowfight cuz of it, never has cold hand and found the perfect pair so that snow doesnt stick to them
thea and melitta: snoods, they have matching ones that their aunt made them, ever since they were little. ilse is very intregued by them and wants to learn how to make one for herself

yeah we don’t love that 🫡 to forever quote YCDT, no ethical consumption under late-stage nhl,,, the nhlpa is a farce and needs to develop standards for head contact,,, fighting in hockey is antiquated and one of the potential methods for growing the game is to showcase individual players and remove some of the contact to allow skills to be at the forefront like in woho,,, this is a multi-faceted issue and heavily debated in hockey because of the way fighting is so ingrained into the idea of what hockey *is* (regardless of whether or not it should be) and especially with everything that’s been coming out about power dynamics and violence in/around hockey i think there’s something to be said about how the normalization of violence on the ice translates into hockey culture and outward behavior because there isn’t really foundational support coming from the league and guidelines that would delineate expectations surrounding off vs on ice actions
yet also, i a) grew up with many blood feuds and a detroit reputation for bench-clearing line brawls, which happened at the first game i ever went to, b) am a simple stupid creature easily delighted by the big skate boys dropping gloves and c) no one got injured, which does not make it okay but makes me feel like i can have a little violence, as a treat. usw usw everything is complicated there’s a million theses on it this is not the post for that, this is the post for me to show you moritz seider my beloved BODYING sidney crosby and one of my favorite mickey redmond quotes about him which is just “seider, as we’ve seen before, doesn’t care”

PLUTO IN THE FIRST HOUSE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All strong Pluto aspects to the Ascendant/ Scorpio Ascendant, Scorpio planets in the first house.
This is a difficult placement, particularly when Pluto is close to or aspecting the Ascendant. These people would probably be classed as Plutonians. Power struggles may be expressed by the physical appearance.
These people manage to look dramatically different in a way that alienates others-such as wearing black leather jackets, sexually provocative clothes, having a weight problem, or dark, brooding expressions. You can almost hear them saying to a parent, "You can't control the way I look." Since the first house is one of the health houses, it is crucial to work on guilt and resentment issues, as over the years the energy could translate into serious physical problems.
The Plutonian personality may alienate others, as these people may go around with chips on their shoulders, radiating resentment. They may stringently control emotional expression, not trusting the world with any important information, constantly scrutinizing everything. When angry or resentful, they may withdraw into solitude or become loners.
Relationships may be based on doing too much for others or binding others symbiotically. When that fails, isolation is the result. The reason for this lack of trust might be a very early betrayal of trust, abandonment, loss by death, or other difficult family conditions. (The first house shows defenses we adopt because of the family environment and other early events.) This is a powerful placement when used constructively, for these individuals could have a great impact on their environment.
As they become comfortable with the use of power, their influence on others could be very great. It is one of the signatures of the healer or psychotherapist, for these people can see right into the heart of the problem and empower others to heal themselves. These people may also be mediums, aware or unaware.

I picked up the funny Kuhn book on your rec, and noticed Karl Popper on the same shelf, framing himself in contrast. Do you have/know of any good critiques on Popper in general, or his indeterminism in particular? I'm guessing he didn't convince every Marxist and someone's bound to have responded by now.
yea popper sucks. i mean kuhn himself was responding to / critiquing popper; they very famously had a long ongoing dispute. but like i said before, kuhn is also not where it's at imo. like, not that academic citations are the be-all end-all of intellectual value, but there are reasons you don't typically see either of these guys cited by people working in history / philosophy of science these days lol.
anyway in regards to the marxism angle of this i will say: a major problem with hist/philsci is that these disciplines are pretty ensconced in universities (conservative institutionally & intellectually) and have also taken a long time to even start looking beyond the horizons of great man history, the 'western canon', &c. so the lack of marxists / communists in these fields is like, even more pronounced than in academic history more broadly. like it's insane that people like bob young and roger cooter and adrian desmond are still, like, standouts in this respect lol. so, although there are many many marxists who have responded to popper on those terms, and many many historians and philosophers of science who have responded on that side, the sliver of overlap here is a lot smaller than it should be.
i would definitely read with a critical eye and be on the lookout for places where these texts fail specifically because their authors are not engaging in materialist or properly historicised analysis, or are just blatantly reactionary themselves, in different ways to popper. but, a few places to start with political histsci and philsci critiques of him, or just useful accounts of his legacy and critics:
The Cambridge Companion to Popper (2016). Jeremy Shearmur and Geoffrey Stokes (eds.). <-usual disclaimer that cambridge edited vols. are methodologically, politically, and epistemologically playing it VERY safe. you often want to read them 'backwards', ie, read for what's not being said as much as for what's actually in there. consider this a document that shows what sorts of debates are being permitted, centred, and accepted as 'mainstream' and 'reasonable'.

Inspiration always hit her in the middle of the night. It had been a rough past couple of days, her sleep schedule was thrown off and her work seemed like it was never ending even though everything was pretty much all said and done.
It was the middle of the night and she was laying in bed next to Mo, he was sleeping soundly, one of his arms thrown haphazardly around her waist as it gripped ever so slightly making sure she wouldn’t go anywhere.
She, however, was unable to go to sleep. Her mind was racing a million miles an hour with thought after thought after thought. It was the first time she was able to see Moritz this season, she was too busy with school to make it to a game but now she was in his apartment with him.
Her idea had been brilliant, one of the best ones she had come up with in a while. and with her luck, inspiration and motivation had struck her. She carefully maneuvered herself out from underneath carlos’ grasp and made her way into the kitchen, making a pot of coffee before she set up her laptop on the counter and pulled up a chair to sit down.
She opened her laptop and immediately got to work doing whatever her imagination had brought her too at this time of night. She put a movie on her phone to keep her entertained in order to not fall asleep in case the coffee didn’t do its job. She jumped slightly when she felt a hand rest on her shoulder, practically ripping her earbuds out of her ears.
“Schatz, what are you doing up this late?”
She looked at him sheepishly knowing how much Mo cared about her and her health, especially since he wasn’t around 24/7 to watch and take care of her. She flicked her eyes between her computer screen and Mo before answering, “I had a really good idea.”
Moritz quirked an eyebrow and looked over to the clock on the oven, “At two thirty in the morning?”
She nodded, slightly dismissing the fact that she had had a total of six hours of sleep in the past three nights. However, Moritz didn’t know. He only thought that tonight was rough for her, but he should’ve noticed the signs.
The way her eyes had the darkest circles under them known to mankind, the way she would fall asleep whenever her brain wasn’t actively working, the way she only worked well at night, the way she would always be up after his games. This wasn’t an uncommon thing for the girl, or Moritz, to experience. The two were very well informed of these things happening, Mo doing all he could to help her get back on schedule despite his own busy life.
He picked her up, sitting himself down on the chair and then her on his lap. He wrapped his arms around her waist and waited for her to say something. She continued staring at the screen, no words being said. she reached for her computer and started typing away but Mo pulled her back, his arms restricting her movement. she groaned and leaned back, placing her hands on his forearms, “What?”
“Come to bed, Schön.” he placed light kisses in the crook of her neck, tickling her softly.
“I gotta get this out otherwise I'm going to forget.”
“But you need sleep, my love.”
She turned so she was sitting sideways on his hand and lying her head on his shoulder. She traced shapes onto his chest and she looked dazed a little. His left hand now ran up and down her calf, as his right one played with the ends of her hair that lay against her back. He knew there was something wrong by the way her eyes looked, unfocused and glossed over.
“What’s wrong, y/n?”
She looked up at him and blinked before shaking her head. Nothing was wrong besides the fact that she couldn’t sleep and that she was tired, which he already knew. He frowned a bit, lifting his hand to tuck a piece of hair behind her ear. She smiled at him and leaned more into him, thinking about how great it felt to be there with him at that moment.
His hand returned to its previous position, now rubbing circles into her thigh with his thumb. She had pants on so she didn’t feel it all that well, but she could tell that it was there. THe two stayed silent, both of them not knowing what to say anymore. He could see she was starting to fall asleep, her eyes closing every so often before opening back up, “Let's go to bed schatz.”
“Just let me finish this one last thing-” She reached for her laptop but once again he pulled her back into his lap and then picked her up, carrying her to the bed.
She protested but gave up within a few seconds as she recognized how comfy she was in his arms. He laid her down on the bed and crawled in next to her, rewrapping his arms around her. She snuggled into him, glad to be back in bed despite losing her idea. He smiled down at her as her head nuzzled into his chest. Her one hand reached up to run through his hair, getting slightly caught within the tangles.
“You gotta brush your hair, baby.”
Her words were mumbled but he was able to make them out, chuckling in result, “Oh really?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, that’s something we can deal with in the morning.”
“‘Kay.”
It was two minutes later when he felt her hand stop and when he looked down at her again, she was sleeping. This was something they would talk about in the morning but as of now it was Mo 8 and sleep 0.

Oooh. Adams Hochzeit?

Humans have long sullied the Arctic with industrial development—mining operations, oil and gas exploration, military bases. That’s contaminated the landscape with a bevy of toxicants, including radiological material, heavy metals, insecticides, and fuels. That nastiness was often intentionally buried in frozen ground known as permafrost. In theory, as long as that ground remained frozen, the pollutants would stay locked away.
No longer. An alarming new paper in the journal Nature Communications estimates that between 13,000 and 20,000 contaminated sites are splayed across Arctic permafrost regions, with 3,500 to 5,200 in areas that’ll be affected by thawing soils before the end of the century. The region is already warming rapidly, more than four times faster than the rest of the planet. And that estimated number of sites is likely low, the scientists warn, because thaw might dramatically accelerate in some places.
As permafrost degrades, it collapses, releasing buried contaminants that flow out in the melted ice. The ground sinks—often spectacularly and rapidly—dragging down aboveground infrastructure like fuel tanks and pipelines. Indeed, that was the suspected cause of a 2020 environmental disaster in Norilsk, Russia, in which 17,000 tons of oil leaked from a collapsed tank.
“The assumption is that permafrost is a hydrological barrier, and it will remain there forever,” says permafrost researcher Moritz Langer, of the Alfred Wegener Institute and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, lead author of the new paper. “That was the assumption for all of these very old sites—especially from the ‘70s, ‘80s, up until the ‘90s—when climate warming and the problem of permafrost thaw was not really on the radar of most people.”
Langer and his colleagues found that 70 percent of these sites are in Russia, with others across Alaska, Canada, and Greenland. Some facilities are abandoned and difficult to access and clean up. Others are still operational, and producing yet more toxicants to leak into the environment. (The new paper doesn’t distinguish, though, exactly which sites are which.) As the Arctic warms, expect industrial and military development to creep farther north, adding more contaminants while putting more people in contact with them. And the mushier the soil gets, the harder it will be to use heavy equipment to clean up the messes.
“This idea that somehow we have, functionally, a number of potential Superfund sites that were completely unknown until this paper, but could be mobilizing into the Arctic and potentially international environment, is pretty terrifying,” says Kimberley R. Miner, a climate scientist who studies permafrost contamination at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory but wasn’t involved in the new paper. “To see them take that idea and apply it to actual maps and get actual sites, with permafrost disturbance underneath, was so mind-blowing to me.”
Existing sites are already plagued by a slew of environmental troubles. Oil leaks come from both wells and from pipelines. Radioactive material is buried around military bases. Pesticides like DDT are packed in barrels, then buried. Mining operations are notorious for emitting heavy metals like mercury; other sites are full of arsenic, lead, and other highly toxic elements and compounds. Trucks and heavy machinery carry liquid fuels like diesel, which are prone to spill.
Once the ground is no longer frozen enough to form a barrier, those contaminants will seep into rivers and ponds, corrupting highly sensitive ecosystems. “This, we think, could also be a dangerous situation for people living up in the high north,” says Langer, as the contaminants mix with drinking water.
That water will eventually empty into the ocean and ride elsewhere on currents. Toxicants can also get airborne: Indeed, the Arctic is already dusted with lead from burning leaded gasoline. Mercury, too, could escape mining operations by taking to water and air. “Mercury that came from the burning of coal and fossil fuels from a century or two centuries ago is still cycling through our biosphere,” says Kevin Schaefer, a climate scientist at the University of Colorado, Boulder, who studies permafrost contaminants but wasn’t involved in the new paper.
Human activity in the Arctic only exacerbates the thaw. Dark-colored roads absorb the sun’s energy, heating the soil. Digging up dirt and tossing it on top of snow darkens the whiteness that would normally bounce light off the landscape. Vehicle tires chew up the soil. “You already have rapidly changing environmental conditions,” says George Washington University climate scientist Dmitry Streletskiy, who studies permafrost but wasn’t involved in the new paper. “But then, of course, on top of those rapid changes, you have concentrated human presence—you have industry and infrastructure. So those are really focal points, where you in many ways amplify those changes associated with climate."
Oh, and the giant new Willow drilling project in Alaska that the Biden administration just approved? That’ll be on permafrost too. “Think about what it takes to establish a pipeline,” says Miner. “You're going to need a road. You're going to have people walking in and out, trampling the permafrost. All of that is going to lead to increased thaw and increased potential for contamination and disturbances to the very fragile tundra landscape. So it's just impacts upon impacts upon impacts.”
This new paper only considered gradual permafrost thaw. But permafrost can collapse much more rapidly, digging holes known as thermokarst. As ice becomes liquid water, it loses volume, forming a crater in which microbes produce the highly potent greenhouse gas methane. This further warms the atmosphere and accelerates permafrost thaw—a gnarly climatic feedback loop.
Adding yet more peril is that as the Arctic warms, wildfires are proliferating. If one sweeps through a contaminated site, it’ll send up plumes of toxicant-laden smoke. That will in turn exacerbate the thaw: Scientists have previously calculated that in north Alaska, thermokarst formation has accelerated by 60 percent since 1950, thanks to wildfires.
In other words, Langer says, their paper’s projection is “pretty conservative.” Some of the sites might thaw even earlier.
Permafrost is already deforming communities in the far north. Airport runways are sinking, roads are wrinkling, and buildings are crumbling. “It's no longer some ambiguous thing that might happen in the future—it's happening today, even as we speak,” says Schaefer. “If this infrastructure becomes damaged because of thawing permafrost, it's extremely expensive and extremely difficult to resolve. These areas are very remote. You can only do things in certain times of the year, mainly the summer.”
If thermokarst opens a hole in your runway, for instance, it might cut off surrounding communities that rely on supplies brought in by plane. And if you can’t fly, you can’t get out of many places around the Arctic. “It's not like the Lower 48—if I don't make it to Denver, I'll fly to Colorado Springs,” says Schaefer. “These are all really key infrastructure, and it's really difficult to build and maintain.”
But this new paper is at least a step toward localizing the problem, directing governments to where cleanup might be required. Early scientific sleuthing like this is a start, but a fix will take putting a lot of boots on increasingly soggy ground. “In order to manage something, you have to measure it,” says Miner. The next step would take a massive push—one like the US Environmental Protection Agency began in the 1980s to clean up Superfund sites. But with such a patchwork of nations and corporations responsible for the mess, it’s not clear when—or if—that work would start.

Daniel N. Durant and Alex Boniello collaborated to create an absolutely iconic version of Moritz Stiefel in the Deaf West production of Spring Awakening (I think John Gallagher Jr., the OG Moritz, would be proud of them)!!!
Tumblr media
Daniel and Alex's brotherly best friend bond is so amazing to see. Who else wants to see them work together again someday? I know I do! I know that Britt and April would definitely be in the audience watching and supporting them and being the most amazing partners/spouses/sister-in-laws EVER!!!
Tumblr media
I love how Daniel talks about how Alex has become like a brother to him during the process of doing the show together! It's so cute!
Tumblr media
I imagine that Britt and April are probably really proud of Daniel and Alex right now.
Tumblr media
Not just talented actors playing 2 sides of a similar character, but also adorable uncles and soul brothers to each other.
Tumblr media
Wouldn't it be amazing if Daniel & Britt and Alex & April double dated? Not only would it be an adorable DWSA Moritz reunion, but it would also be a new bonding experience for the ladies in their lives!!! 🤟🏻💜💙🤍🕊🖤💗💕💋🫶🏻🎶
Tumblr media
Shoutout to whoever it was that casted both Daniel and Alex as 2 different sides of the same character of Moritz in DWSA!!!
Tumblr media
They said that Alex's role as the Voice of Moritz is serving as Moritz's inner rock star, but I would argue that Daniel and Alex are both rock stars!!!
Tumblr media
The show in it of itself was an amazing opportunity for both deaf and hearing actors to work together and for both deaf and hearing audiences to get to experience things equally together, which I love about accessible projects like the movie CODA, and, as someone who has autism, I personally think there should be more of those kinds of projects that are accessible to everybody, and I mean, EVERYBODY, regardless who they are or what accommodations they have for certain things.
Tumblr media
Dude, the foreshadowing with Daniel reaching for the gun in Alex's hands was so powerful and it just started to shatter my heart into literally a thousand pieces at least and made me feel even worse for Moritz. 🥺😭🤧 Poor baby lost hope on going on with life...
Tumblr media
Long story short, if y'all told me that Daniel and Alex were brothers who were separated at birth, I would have absolutely no problem believing you!

Melchior: Moritz, can I talk to you for a second?
Moritz: Yeah, what’s up? Lemme guess. You and Wendla are having problems and you want me to teach you how to kiss?
Melchior: What? No, stop that. I know how to kiss. I’ve read books. Just like you.

fluffy moritz seider blurb where he had a bad practice pls??? (i love ur blog sm btw 🫶🏻)
your brows furrowed as you faintly heard the sound of something breaking followed by muttered cursing. you sat up and rubbed the sleep from your eyes, glancing over the back of the couch onto the kitchen. mo was hunched over a mess of a broken salsa bottle, carefully picking up the broken pieces. you threw the blanket over the back of the couch, getting up and carefully walking in to help him.
“sorry i woke you,” he spoke when you were nearly done. he sounded off, though.
“it’s no problem. didn’t even realize i fell asleep. you okay?” he didn’t answer, just threw the paper towels away and grabbed the washcloth. he disappeared for a moment to toss it in the hamper, and when he came back you were sat on the couch again. he pushed you over, tangling your bodies together and then dealing the blanket back over the both of you.
“rough practice,” he mumbled into your shoulder. you brought your hand up to run through his hair. “didn’t make a single shot, tripped more times than i can count, fucked up my passes-“
“hey. everyone has off days, mo. just gotta brush it off and get back into it tomorrow.” he sighed.
“yeah, i guess.” you knew he knew you were right, he was just a fill in a bad mood from earlier.
“you wanna turn on a new movie?” the one you had fallen asleep to was almost over. he leaned over you to grab the remote and then settled back, and you pressed a kiss to his collarbone as he searched through the titles for a good one to watch.
