My gf introduced me to Monster Rancher when she first moved in, now I in the year of 2024, have been watching content on it nonstop because I found a YouTuber who does competitive stuff. I'm waiting for 1&2 DX to go on sale on steam so I can get it.
The competitive scene is Ai vs Ai, my ass is not immune to virtual cockfighting.

I put Change the Weather by Underworld in the shrine and it gave me a Pulscorn
I named him Versace. I had to draw my new emo rabbit-wolf-cat-thing.

Gosh I'm glad to be helping one of my friends out with emulating Monster Rancher 3. There's already extra things you should know before emulating those games just because of the whole disc swap mechanic, but gosh dang the PS2 games, and especially Monster Rancher 3, is hard to get set up just right.
This is why I really hope to get an emulation guide for the series written out. Until Koei Tecmo releases the other games on modern platforms there's always gonna be people who want to play those games and don't have the means, whether they can't afford the games, or don't have the systems to play the games, or even if they live in PAL regions since up until the worldwide releases of Monster Rancher 1 and 2 DX and Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher the only game in the series that got a PAL release was Monster Rancher 2.
But yeah, I just want to be able to help out anyone who wants to experience this wonderful series any way they can.

Poor bf tried to be cute and buy me some bunny-eared hats for xmas, but they didn't look like the pictures, general poor quality, sent them back. So instead he's opted to just get me something off my steam wishlist. And is letting me decide.

Overview
In celebration of the magical series’ 25th anniversary, Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX brings the wildly popular simulation games to modern hardware where players raise their own monsters and train them to compete against other eccentric creatures in combat and tournaments. With hundreds of different monster types, each with their own skills and abilities, every Rancher will be able to raise and train monsters that are a perfect fit for their personality and play style.
The special collection also includes content that was never originally featured in the original Western release, such as additional save slots, Freeze slots, and Monster Hall of Fame slots. New features have also been added to Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX, including a memo feature to use while raising monsters, rankings for random battles, and a high-speed mode to play through the game faster.
The Monster Rancher series originally launched with a unique feature that allowed players to use physical CDs to generate monsters in the game, with each CD having a unique ID that would spawn a different monster. This feature has been re-worked in Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX, allowing players to search a database to find their desired CD and generate a monster from its data. Enjoy searching a vast database of songs from around the world and generating monsters based off of some of your favorite music!

For any Nintendo Switch users who are planning to download 'Monster Rancher + Monster Rancher 2 DX' or have already got it and are starting out, I would like to offer some helpful advice...
Tips marked with * are tips that are INTERCHANGABLE between the two games. Tips marked with (2) are tips that apply to ‘Monster Rancher 2′ ONLY!!\\
* NEVER RUN OUT OF MONEY AT ANY TIME IN THE GAME!!!!
*There's a mechanic that the game doesn't bother going over with you in both games called the "Life Span Index", which is basically an invisible counter that counts "stress" points, and "Fatigue" points, and it works a like this:
Fatigue + 2x Stress
*If this buildup equals or goes over 70 points, your monster will have lost a week of lifespan time, and so forth for each threshold passed.
*Each Vitamin/Drug reduces the life span of your monster by anywhere between 6-18 weeks apiece (depending on the variety.)
*Ideally, you should hold off on errantry until after your monster is 1 year old at the SOONEST.
*Speaking of Errantry, the Errantry hikes up your monster's fatigue gauge up enough to dock 7 weeks of lifespan time off, so only sign up for it if a new technique is guaranteed, otherwise it's NOT worth it!
*Battle tournaments lower stress (especially if you win), but increase fatigue enough to cut 3 weeks off your monster’s life span
*Dedicate at least one week to rest every month.
*Buy one stress/fatigue reducing item and feed it to your monster as often as you can afford.
* The remastered versions of both games are based off the JAPANESE versions of both games, so every species of monster has 100 fewer weeks of lifespan time compared to the American PSX version.
(2) If your monster cheats at drills, don't scold it, feed it sour candy instead, as scolding causes stress.
(2) Play with your monster when it requests to play, as play reduces stress by LOT.
8 If you enter your monster into a tournament when it's exhausted, it's stats drop down to HALF of what they'd normally be, stamina replenishes at half the speed it usually would, and the chances of your monster getting Killed if it gets KOed DOUBLES.
Feed your monster Tablets as often as you can afford to, even if your monster DOESN'T LIKE Tablets. If Tablets are too expensive, Fish is a relatively "Safe" food choice as almost all monsters like Fish.
*For the first 6 months of your monster’s life, feed you monster ‘Milk’ unless your monster DOESN’T LIKE ‘Milk’, in which case, feed your monster anything else BUT POTATO!!
