my beloved colt, also prbly the 1st character i headcanon as transmasc and part of my Transgender Awakening :tm: referring to colt as he/him because I'm Right. ANYWAY. literally only referred to as "coltia" by a couple ppl and tells u to call him colt. he's ur breeding assistant in game (it's. a monster breeding game. u raise and fight monsters. its cool and fun.) he has a pet toucan named joy that helps you raise the monsters, too! described on his IMa ID card as "a little bit hasty" idk he's just very likeable! he's the one that you experience p much the entire game w, so you get rlly attached 🥺 everything that happens with your monster is basically narrated and experienced through what colt says he's also in the monster rancher anime but tbh... i never watched it jgi;eajgs and we dont talk abt what they did to colt in the monster rancher ds game it just makes me sad they made him a mail carrier like ??? what happened to being a monster breeder??? i refuse to believe he would give up on that *bites the creators* anyway i love colt dearly so so much and he's trans cuz i say so

So after 100 years I’m finally playing Monster Rancher…

When did I first discover Escaflowne?

I first watched Escaflowne around 2000, back when I was in grade school. It stood out to me because at the time, all the other anime shows were dubbed in Tagalog, but for some reason, Escaflowne was broadcast in English.

The local network at the time had this insane programming block where they would air a different anime show every weeknight, and Escaflowne would air on Friday nights. I was a high achieving schoolgirl at the time with a strict mom, and my TV hours were strictly regimented. But on Fridays, I could relax!

I remember the first episode immediately hooking me. Even back then, I could tell that the show was so tightly plotted because I wouldn’t even realize that the half-hour block was up. The first few episodes had really well-executed cliffhangers too. I couldn’t wait until Fridays and would rush home from school every week.

Pre-teen me would get really into it. Like REALLY into it - I would spend the commercial breaks writing down names of the new characters and countries just so I could remember. Also a lot of squealing in my room. I was in full-on fan-girl mode. I fangirled with my friends at school too.

Sadly, I didn't even finish the series upon first watching. I was so upset when it got cancelled/the timeslot changed/??? for some reason. This was way back in the early 2000s and there was no YouTube, the internet barely had anything. I remember being so upset that I was indignantly saying I would literally WRITE to the broadcast network that cancelled it and demand that they put it back on the air (LOL). I don’t remember when they stopped but I think I stopped just before Hitomi left Gaea the first time.

Some time later, I found an anime store (in SM North Edsa) and they had bootleg copies of the series on VHS tapes. I eventually got to finish the series. I still love the ending. (Thoughts on that incoming in another post)

In 2016 it got Kickstarted for a re-dub and I’m so glad that 20+ years on, enough people still hold it very dear to their hearts and showed support! I joined in on that campaign too, of course.

Nowadays I rewatch the show every few years or so. And I make sure to have at least 2 copies stored in different devices at all times.

Episode 1: Destiny is a Bitch.

You ever heard of a small town called Hermit Valley? It’s in the middle of nowhere, Wyoming. It’s so small it isn’t even shown on maps. You probably never even heard of it. This is where Jimmy lives. A slice of nowhere in the middle of a forest. The type of place where everyone knows everyone.

Jimmy is pretty normal. In fact if you met him you would think he is underwhelming as a person. The person that was always picked last for everything because everyone legit forgot he was there. He isn’t weird but he definitely isn’t one of the cool kids. He is just painfully normal. A simple teen whose biggest worry is if he gonna pass his math class. His life is so average he doesn’t even worry about crushes.

Now his brother on the other hand? His brother is as main character you can get. Not only is he a straight A honor student but he is definitely one of the cool kids. He is a black belt in taekwondo and does fencing on the side. The type of kid that everyone inspires to be. Friend to practically everyone including the adults. His popularity is also boosted by Scar, his boyfriend. Scar is the youngest child of the Good family. And his dad is currently the mayor. For better or for worse.

Now normally you would think that Jimmy would envy his brother accomplishments. But Jimmy is no where near jealous. He wants to be as mundane and normal as he can be. He wants Grian to shine brightly and earn everyone’s praise.

But his reasons are not selfless. The fact is every small town has secrets. That always doubles for families living in said towns. And Jimmy and Grian has plenty. The fact is their family has a very special burden. Nothing like a bad family life. Oh no. It’s something more special.

Members of their family are forced to deal with things that lurk and hunt in the dark. Therefore Grian being so competent as a person is just preparation.

Jimmy has no reason to prepare. Clearly his brother will deal with it. It is what Grian wanted since great grandma spoke of the family duty years ago. Which brings them here. In the moldy basement of great grandma that ranks of wet and sludge.

No one ever said destiny smelled like flowers. Grian smiles despite his gagging at said stench. His whole life has been leading to this moment. This is it! The moment he stops being a normal teen. This is the momment where he becomes the chosen one that will protect everyone.

Jimmy meanwhile isn’t so lucky. He is currently vomiting in a bucket because Grian forced him to come with to find the oh so special knife. This isn’t the first time did Jimmy regret hard when it comes to Grian. After Jimmy empties out what one could have presumed used to be Mac and cheese with plenty of ribbing from his oh so sweet older brother because of his delicate stomach finally looks around.

Grian happily starts rummaging the maze of wet cardboard about like a raccoon looking for food. Jimmy is pretty sure he is only here so Grian can happily brag after he finds the ancestral knife to get paranormal steroids. Jimmy really hopes Grian finds it soon. Jimmy saw a giant rat scuttle away between said boxes.

Grian starts laughing manically as he pulls out a object covered in a golden cloth. “I found it! Time for MY super awesome destiny of fighting evil! Watch and gaze upon me! The chosen hero” Grian says as he practically rips apart the cloth ready to cut his palm so he can be the chosen hero of this generation.

To be honest Jimmy has been a mix of nervous,sick, and bored to his stomach the whole time looking around this basement. Great Grandma really needs to clean this place out. That he was only half listening to what his brother had to say. Grian could tell and he was not that pleased to say the least. “Well I know it’s my destiny and all but don’t you want to to atleast look at the knife? It’s hecka cool in my opinion” Grian says while he waves the knife around in the air so it shines slightly in the light coming from the dim lighting. Jimmy rolls his eyes but indulges his brother. Primarily because he wants to be done with this. He has a test to study for. Couple things happen at the same time when Jimmy looks at the knife. Said giant rat suddenly comes out of nearby boxes and jump scaring Jimmy. Jimmy jumping on top of Grian because of the rat. Grian accidently stabbing his brother with the knife in his hand. Cue Jimmy screaming bloody murder.

“What The Fuck Grian?!?!” Jimmy screams with his arm bleeding quite a bit. “LOOK IT WAS A ACCIDENT” Grian yells back a bit panicked. How the heck is he gonna explain to their parents about stabbing his younger brother. Before they can think or say anything else. The knife glows.

Blinding them. Grian screams loudly “NO! I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE CHOSEN ONE! Why are being such a bitch Madame destiny! DID I TAKE TAEKWONDO FOR NOTHING? Why did you chose Jimmy?!”

Jimmy feels different. Also his arm? Doesn’t hurt that much anymore. Jimmy really should have had a backbone for once in his life and refused this. He is quickly realizing that studying is now one of his lesser problems now. As his eyes blur and slowly loses consciousness. His only thought is “Fuck destiny”. Guess this is the end of his mundane life.

Plant: Plant likes to sunbathe and tends to be quiet but popular. When the weather is particularly good you can hear it sing in it's cute little voice, but it gets sad when it rains.

They can shoot seeds from their flowers like bullets, shoot toxic nectar and pollen and drain energy from opponent.

'While you would think they would reproduce by using seeds, they actually lay hard-shelled eggs, like a bird....' Today I learned, but i guess thats similar to Pokemon.

Flower of Life: So Gilgamesh's bff/bf Enkidu got cursed by the gods Gilgamesh went to search a way to get immortality. An old man who was inmortal told him about the flower of life that was under the ocean, and Gilgamesh got it but then a snake stole it.

Weiss decided the best way to get back at her father was to move to her grandfather's ranch in the backwater isle of Patch.

She didn't know much about training or raising monsters, but she was more than willing to learn, and it just so happened a pair of girls were more than happy to teach her about that, and many other things.
