can we all just collectively forget and ignore the first two episodes of junjou romantica.. ESPECIALLY the first one. i'm one for acknowledging the flaws this show has as it's literally my hyper-fixation and has been for many years, but some of the authors choices cross the line unfortunately like many others (especially at the time) with the due fact to what other people have said and using common, moral knowledge.

Also so much of the Speak Now vault belongs to Miyagi and Shinobu tbh.
Electric Touch-Being a ghost town but the right person bringing you back to life, and it's nerve wrecking, knowing everything falls apart, but wanting to need this forever. Like vibes are so right.
I Can See You-Shinobu's false bravado of I can do adult thing, I know what I'm doing. I'm adult. Imagine all the things I've pictured with my fated one. And then it spirals out of control that this is truly a romantic affair, Miyagi realizes this is emotional and he's dead serious he's fucked up by believing the kid was up for adult stuff. Because the kid blushes and stammers over the true secret-that this all began over stolen looks at the library. But he hides that so well under false bravado.
Foolish One-This is SUCH Shinobu when Miyagi is being flighty. I wrote a thing once, exploring Shinobu deciding to go back to Australia in S1, and calling his dad, and he keeps checking his texts, praying Miyagi texts him, gives him a sign, cause a sign is all he needs. "Foolish one, stop checking your mailbox for messages of love that's never going to come..." It's literally that scene written out. And by calling the dean he gives up on waiting on the texts that's never going to come. But it's also very Chapter 30-31/S2. But when it's good, it's forever. And he keeps up his spoiled rich brat persona to seem bulletproof.
Timeless-The fated ones. They'd find each other in any life. Some of them aren't easy(like this one), but they'd still always be each others. Because they were meant to find this timeless love they fought for. Fought each other for, but it was only because they loved each other and didn't want to let each other go.
Sidenote: When Emma Falls In Love-Miyagi and Sensei in the most painful way. She's the book he couldn't put down, his Cleopatra in a small town. She wasn't afraid to call him out, put him in his place. But she was too physically weak to pace, to close the blinds and lock the door. She didn't joke with her mom all the ways this could go wrong cause they knew. She was dying. And all they could do was sit by her bedside. But she met a boy with the eyes of a man, her heart fits in the palm of his hand. He tried to be her shelter in the rain, but his life was about to change when she died. And I just ruined my mood.
...I always thought there was a sadness to Emma. There it is. It's so unfair. Blah.

Junjou Terrorist: is it that they just happen to work well together or is Nakamura trying to push a narrative?
So, I've had this inkling for a REALLY long time where I was like: "You know, for the most toxic and not-at-all-okay set up, they communicate the best next to Mistake. IS THAT ON PURPOSE!?"
Now one could say, "But Wh33zy, it just seems they work well because the others are so bad at communicating." AND YOU MIGHT BE RIGHT! However, it cannot be denied that they communicate the best out of three in JR but further unlike the other two, they are NOT the least bit shy about showing each other affection.
But what's making me narrow my eyes here is the fact that most of the couples from JR/SIH with the smaller age gaps (and not-toxic set ups) often have MAJOR issues with either communicating, working out problems, or showing affection.
However, you've got this borderline creep of a grown ass almost middle-aged man getting with his ex-wife's younger brother months away from being eighteen...and somehow it all works? Not to mention how Nakamura had Shinobu be the one to pursue Miyagi...Other couples have major issues with the three things I shared above and in comparison, Terrorist's dynamic feels somewhat refreshing...it almost feels on purpose, doesn't it?
Now, I get it: I'm probably reading too into this like I always do and it's probably just a 'forbidden love taboo' trope that's in every one of Nakamura's stories. But Terrorist REALLY sticks out in their positive differences, and Egoist makes them stick out even more because Nowaki and Hiroki are like oil and water even though they have the closest age gap.
I just wonder if Nakamura had actually planned for it all to work out like this. I theorize it was for one of two reasons (or both):
It's already bad enough the age gap is 17 years and the relationship started months before Shinobu's 18th birthday. Not to mention Terrorist's pretty rocky start. Maybe they are the way they are to make the rest not seem so bad so more people will read.
Again, like in the previous read on them, they're pure romance in the sense that they're meant to prove love conquers all, even over all the wrongness. Meant to show that "age is just a number" which is SO SO WRONG. JAIL IS JUST A ROOM TOO, BBY.
Surprise third reason: because they get the least screen time, the chapters are meant to be positive to make up for it.
And again: while I do like their dynamic as a couple later on and mainly Shinobu's personality, I'm def not a fan of their set-up, the ages, and I totally understand why they get skipped by most readers. I honestly think the story would be a lot more enjoyable if Shinobu was a past student of Miyagi's who graduated college before they met again.
