🐠 Daily Fish Fact: 🐠
Coelacanths were once known only from fossils and were thought to have gone extinct approximately 65 million years ago. Much to scientists' surprise, the first living coelacanth was discovered in 1938. Numerous characteristics are unique to this fish. Among them is the presence of a "rostral organ" in the snout that is part of the electrosensory system, and an intracranial joint or "hinge" in the skull that allows the anterior portion of the cranium to swing upwards, greatly enlarging the gape of the mouth.

DYK… (part 2)
Tumblr media
tiger sharks are one of the shark species most likely to attack a human unprovoked, and is considered one of the most dangerous sharks in the world for that reason.
tiger sharks are one of the "Big Three" aggressive shark species, along with great white sharks and bull sharks.
tiger sharks are apex predators meaning they don't have many natural predators. In fact one of the only known predators to this species are humans and killer whales. A killer whale is much larger in size and weight, which allows it to overpower the shark.

Hey tumblr I want to introduce you guys to something beautiful
crab database. hundreds of photos of crabs identified by species. I found it by accident. I know of zero other websites with a similar purpose and I have looked because I would love to see websites dedicated to cataloging any genre of animal. Everything about crab database is wonderful and educational and silly.

Animal of the Day!
Headless Chicken Monster (Enypniastes eximia)
Tumblr media
Conservation Status- Unlisted
Habitat- Atlantic Ocean; Pacific Ocean; Indian Ocean
Size (Weight/Length)- 25 cm
Diet- Crustaceans; Benthic sediment
Cool Facts- While this creature has a horrifying name and appearance, it’s simply a swimming sea cucumber. Also called the pink see-through fantasia (which is a way cooler name), these cucumbers travel along the sea floor up to 6,000 meters deep. They eat mostly benthic sediment, essentially the waste product of the ocean ranging from tiny bits of food to fish eggs to literal waste. After feeding, their intestine becomes visible through their transparent skin. Little is known about the headless chicken monster’s way of reproduction due to their difficult to visit home.
Rating- 13/10 (Living life to its fullest.)

A chain catshark, one of the 200 species of marine animals to display biofluorescence, is seen glowing neon green on a deep sea fluorescent dive near California‘s coast. Surreal diving experiences like this help scientists better understand and protect marine life—and travelers can now try it too.

Daily Ray Fact:
*Last one and it's kind of a bummer, because there's literally no information on it🙃*
The Rosette River Stingray is also regularly known as the Flower Stingray. It is a freshwater stingray that can be found in the rivers of Northern South America. They are aptly named for the floral design on their disc, which blends in well with sandy river bottoms.
