Why is Sozin outlawing homosexuality in FN a dumb addition? Imo it's dumb because they did for the sake of making him appear more evil and up to that point there were no indications that FN was homophobic iirc.
It's dumb because as a nation based on Imperial Japan and part of a show created in fucking 2005, there was no way the Fire Nation had ever allowed homosexuality to begin with (And the Earth Kingdom wouldn't be any better, it's based on freaking China after all), hell it's even arguable the Gaang would be pretty homophobic themselves, with the possible exception of Aang who'd be confused but a 'live and let live' type. In case some of you don't remember, gay marriage was only legalized in all US states in 2015, a whole fucking decade after the show started.
Same for the same comic telling us the Air Nomads, a nation based on fucking Tibet and Tibetan Monks, who to this day are against homosexuality with even the Dalai Lama speaking against it, who also had complet gender segregation at the temples, being some kind of 'free love' hippie utopians, where nobody bats at an eye at gay stuff or even modern Tumblr gender stuff. Try that in any actual culture the Air Nomads were inspired from or who shares their values, I guarantee you, you're not gonna live long.
It's also dumb because Sozin committed a fucking genocide and yet it's the gay thing that make Korra go 'Oh, what a bad dude!', like holy shit, how badly can you fuck up such a simple concept?
And no, Korra being made Bi / Lesbian once it was safe to do (Which didn't even happen officially in the show proper because the final was still officially sold as 'Korra and Asami are totally doing that as friends') doesn't change anything I said, if anything it just make it more obvious how hard the showrunners toe the line of what's acceptable in that aspect, to the point that to this day, we have yet to see a male Avatar be into another man, because lesbians are way more accepted, sell better and are more easily sneaked into a show than gay men.
Thanks for the ask ^^

How do you think Makorra would occur in Season 3 and 4, with themes like Korra's PTSD and Mako & Bolin finding their family?
I genuinely think b3 is already good how is it, especially with how much action there's in it so there's not that much place for the rest, but Makorra still here even if it's mostly casual and the post break up context.
There's doubts and tension especially from Mako's side. But Korra is constantly reassuring him through some affectionately actions and words "You're part of team avatar. " and Mako still truly care about Korra and despite being awkward around her (due to still romantic feelings, but that's on my interpretation even if theses two were obviously baited until the very end) he's still her white knight constantly protecting her (fought the red lotus, making up plan for her to be safe despite putting himself in danger, plan to find her back..) like he always did since the beginning, showing how extreme their relationships status could change, they'll always care and deeply need each other.
They're truly a such cool lovers to exes positive representation, I'm glad for it 🙏🏽
but here comes b4...
tbh even with that one book I don't have that much to say outside that ending, cuz once again we got major Makorra moments- he literally accompanied her during a major step in her recovery journey? (facing Zaheer) Telling her how he got dead worried and was actually mad at her for not updating him? His part in the remembrance episode being just him ranting about how Korra is incredible, amazing, spectacular, show stopping, totally unique, never the same- and how she moved his whole world and inspired him, to the point he unhesitatingly sacrificed himself in the b4 finale directly paralleling Korra's sacrifice in b3 finale.
And with that last sentence I want to bring back my problem with that end and also the comics.
Makorra literally share a such specific and traumatic same experience through these sacrifices, which is being disabled and partially losing their skills while being used to be very talented, even prodigies, benders and fighters... but they did NOTHING of it ignoring Mako's trauma, acting like Korra is all 'healed' also ignoring her trauma too cuz let's be real 'korra alone' was FAR from enough, and their relationship in general, especially in the comics, destroying what they build since b1 making Korra and Mako so distant (Korra not caring about Mako's arm while she literally lived the same experience he's going through) They could help and heal together understanding e/o so well.
So my main complain will be mostly that and post b4 in general and how Makorra straight up got wasted and just loose a godly storyline over whatever bs we got instead.
Now on Mako and Bolin's fam path of plot, I don't think Korra was necessary in it since it's really focused on the bros unused back story, which I hope will be digged even more later.
That's it i guess. Hope I actually answered your question 🫶🏽

If y’all wanna know the crux of why a lot of the fandom hate the comics just look at the response to Patterns in Time. That comic was:
- Advertised as anthology from the moment it was announced
- Stated to feature multiple stories with different LOK characters
- Not part of the main storyline of comics (despite still being canon)
And yet there are dozens of complaints I’ve seen about how it “wasn’t focused enough on Korrasami/Korra/etc.”
The comics are killed by poor, uniformed, and often outlandish expectations or predictions that fans tell themselves will happen until they accept nothing else. Patterns in Time, being a harmless anthology collection of small stories, isn’t even immune to this. The fans completely misread ANY and ALL information about the comic, had several delays’ worth of time to figure that out, and STILL got angry because of their own misjudgment.
Does this apply to the main-line comics? Abso-fucking-lutely. People are so sickeningly attached to their own expectations as to what will happen to characters (especially secondary, non-main protagonist characters) that when any aspect of the canon story differs, its “bad writing.” Even more similar is people who legitimately thought it was a fatal flaw to North and South Part 1 that Aang was on the cover despite not being in the comic. It’s easy to have realistic expectations if you’re paying any attention at all. Unfortunately, that’s not the forte of this fandom.

I like the LOK comics, but I completely understand your critique of Mike's writing in them. I am actually excited that there will be someone new at the writing helm of the next LOK comics. What are your thoughts on the creation of Avatar Studios?
It's nice to have new content, especially if it leads people to discover the original series. I trust Bryke enough to feel enthusiastic about future content even if I found the LOK comics to be a bit disappointing.
Like I know this is Paramount/CBS/Nickelodeon trying to create more content for the sake of having more content and in the beginning I felt very cynical about corporations bringing stuff back but it's actually been fascinating to see the different approaches that have been taken. I'm happy for the Avatarverse that this trend is happening and I hope it's successful.

I'm sorry. While I sincerely hate criticizing Korra, because she's awesome, I cannot agree with the decision to leave the portal in Republic City open. It's too much an opportunity for selfish greedy people who hate the spirits to abuse-people who frankly hold much more power than Korra and legally have every right to hurt the spirits. It's rather telling that they basically had to prepare for war just to protect the portal. And while the opinion may be that the spirits shouldn't be bothered, there will be people who will sway the narrative. They've already done it multiple times, turning it against Korra's efforts to do anything at all.The republic city portal being open is simply too big a risk.
But what about the water tribes? Do you think Korra leaving the spirit portals there was a bad decision too?
The Spirit Portals in the water tribes are different, because they're far from civilization. And the water tribes respect the spirits. Even the bad guy from the water tribes (Unalaq) respected the spirits! Whatever consequences opening the portals there will have, them being open there isn't nearly as risky.

To be honest, I don't think the spirit portal in Republic City should stay open. It was okay in the water tribes because the portals aren't in the middle of civilization and the tribes had a history of spirituality and respecting the spirits. But Republic citizens don't have traditions of spirituality, hate the spirits, and disrespect them, and see spirit land as a commodity. They also have legal right to the portal.
That's not a good combination, and while Korra did manage to find a reasonable solution, and Avatars after her may open/close up the portal later, I sincerely find it doubtful that the spirit portal can stay open for long term without serious casualties that will negatively affect the spirits, which won't end up well because the spirits are dangerous.
Korra did find a reasonable compromise and did the best she could. But in this case, I don't feel a compromise was the best answer, unlike in the water tribes.

Top or Bottom? by @appalesbian
Big thanks to everyone for your patience on this one! We’re bursting with excitement to finally share this collaboration with you!
This idea was something that was marinating in my notes for a few years now, and @appalesbian had a similar concept she had been eager to write about. So, we combined our powers!
Please, check out the companion piece! She nails this vibe and adds a bit more flavor that wraps everything up so perfectly. It’s extremely satisfying, and you won’t be disappointed!
