Light in the Dark (Part 4)

Paring: Vampire Chan x Female Reader Word Count: 4.9K Genre: Romance, Supernatural AU, Vampire AU, Fluff, Angst Warnings: Swearing, Alcohol, Suggestive Themes

Too much truth could be a draining thing but with Chan now beside you everything became so much easier for you until you had to reconcile your human life alongside the lives of him and his brothers.

Chan sensed what was happening a split second before you passed out and dived over to you to catch you before you could fall to the floor, eyes darkening to almost black he glared up at Minho who looked annoyed but resigned to what was happening before chaos broke out and all the boys were yelling and panicking. Felix helped Chan with you, not because he needed any help, but because he felt he could help you to calm yourself completely before you came back around. Minho sent a light yellow smoke to engulf you and help with the shock has caused you to faint and Hyunjin and Seungmin were laughing their butts off at the whole overly dramatic nature of it all.

"It isn't funny what if she is hurt?" Jeongin whined throwing a cushion at his demonic brothers in an effort to get them to stop.

"She isn't hurt Innie, she is just in a little bit of shock although to be fair a lot has happened to her in a very small space of time humans are not as resilient as us" Han murmured calming the little Siren and petting his head lovingly.

"Besides, I doubt she meant to faint she was doing really well with all the oddness" Changbin threw in casually shrugging.

"Of course she didn't mean to! Humans never mean to faint" Han teased rolling his eyes causing Changbin to glare at him.

"Do you realize how funny it is when a room full of Oddities panics over a human" Hjungin coughed gasping for breath. The fierce growl that tore from Chan's throat instantly silenced the room with all of them stopping dead still.

"You should put her necklace back on" Seungmin interjected seriously bowing his head to apologize to Chan "Maybe that will lessen all of her emotions?" Minho nodded giving the necklace to Chan to re-clasp around your neck.

"Although do try not to bite her" Hyunjin giggled trying to ease the tension in the room. Han had been trying to calm Chan but he couldn't manage it with you still dead to the world and although Felix had managed to get your heartbeat to a more normal range, Chan wouldn't calm until you were awake again.

"Not funny Hyunjinnie" Jeongin whined watching as your eyes fluttered behind your eyelids.

"Oh come on it was a bit funny" Hyunjin defended nudging Jeongin's arm playfully.

"That did not go as well as we hoped" Jeongin sighed "But maybe she will wake up and think Chan's some kind of knight in shining armor for looking after her" he chirped hopefully continuing to watch you carefully as Chen sat and attentively moved you into his lap so that he could hold you while Felix worked his proverbial magic on you.

"Either that or she will wake up wanting to fuck him" Changbin grinned high fiving Hyunjin who smirked

"You two are gross" Jeongin countered with disgust screwing up his nose at them. Seungmin sighed loudly patting Jeongin's arm to distract him from the other two as he pondered the rest of his evening now that you had become a boring way to spend his time.

"You know she might panic all over again if she wakes up in your lap" Minho sighed knowing that he was probably wasting his breath he could see from the way Chan had set his jaw he was not going to leave you for a moment. Chan was fiddling with the pendant now that he had clasped the chain back around your neck trying to get it back under your clothes so that the maximum amount of it's surface could be against your bare skin.

A low groan passed your lips as you started coming back around you head was fuzzy but you were warm and comfortable in what felt like someone's arms, were you being hugged?, and you felt undeniably safe it was an odd but wonderful feeling. Opening your eyes begrudgingly you were met by the worried golden flecked eyes of Minho and the swirling coco eyes of Felix both staring at you intently.

"M'sorry" you half groaned half whispered trying to sit up a little. "I didn't expect that to happen".

"Don't apologize we should have been more careful with you" Chan's rumbling velvety voice seeped into your ear as he tightened his arms around you slightly. You hadn't realized that you were in fact curled into Chan's chest but despite the initial awkwardness you felt you didn't want to move you wanted to stay touching him for as long as you could, as long as he would allow. Felix's eyes crinkled into happy little half moons as he felt your happiness to be close to Chan flooding your system.

"Perhaps one of us should get you home" Minho advised as everyone returned to a much calmer state.

"Oh, I didn't even think about that" Your brows pulled together as another dozen questions came to the forefront of your mind.

"Told you Innie" Changbin barked out laughing.

"Changbin" Chan warned his chest rumbling against your back as he spoke.

"Will my grandmother know you altered the spell on the necklace? Will she know I took it off?" You asked Minho trying to ignore whatever the others were talking about.

"She will definitely sense it had been altered but she wont have any way of knowing that you took it off" Minho explained "why do you ask?"

"I don't want her trying to kill me is all" You sighed resignedly thinking about how long her lecture was going to be and whether you could put in your earbuds without her noticing. Had you not been in Chan's lap you would have totally missed the way his whole body stiffened at your comment or that the room became deathly still.

"Not literally, she will just lecture me for the rest of my natural life or follow me around muttering and waving herbs, Oh god will she know who altered it? I don't want her to annoy you for the rest of forever either, or however long you are going to live for" The resigned sarcasm that dripped from your voice caused some of them to chuckle and Chan to relax.

"No she won't know that either although even if she did she would doubt my ability to do it, after all I only managed because of your blood, on my own I would never have been able to alter it" Minho grinned seeing that you were returning to normal as the seconds ticked by. "Did you tell her you were coming here?".

"No I told her I was going out with my friend I didn't want all the wailing that would go along with the 'going to see demons you will surely get possessed' thing or her drugging me again". You explained easily.

"Drugging you?" Han spluttered shock on his face.

"It's a long story" You shyly smiled shrugging.

"I think it may be best if we get you home or you stay here so that someone with magical knowledge is near you just in case" Minho pushed cautiously. "You have been through a lot this evening and I just want to make sure you are 100% before letting you go off on your own".

You took a deep breath in pondering the pros and cons of each option, your grandmother would be furious if she knew you had spent the evening with a collection of Oddinaries and altered the magic in your necklace. On the other hand staying overnight in a house with said Oddinaries may not be any safer, you trusted Chan and Minho when they said no one would harm you, but you still didn't even know all of their names yet. Although you couldn't it would have been tempting to stay as close as possible to Chan you knew rationally going home although probably to an arduous night with your grandmother was the far more sensible.

"No offence, but I don't even know most of your names so I can't possibly stay here" You replied softly

"Oh yeah introductions" Felix chided himself "I'm Felix, we met at the bookshop last weekend" you nodded remembering his pretty face perfectly, he had been after all a subject of many hours daydreaming since then.

"This is Jeongin, we call him Innie. That is Hyunjin, you met him in the park when he was painting. The big guy on the lounge is Changbin, the guy sitting on the arm is Seungmin and last but not least this is Han" he gestured at each of them as he went you following along beaming and giving small waves at them as each of them greeted you in turn.

"Ok, so I met one of you at the park, one at work, one hooked up with my friend, one is a Warlock and one is a Vampire who I had a dream about cool, got it." Your dark sense of humor getting slightly lost in translation

"Well we are all Oddinaries" Hyunjin pouted exaggeratedly.

"I don't doubt that at all, you are all far too beautiful to be humans, but I was always taught it's rude to ask what people are" You quickly added hoping to not cause any offence

"Ignore Hyunjin" Chan mumbled into your ear "He's a bit theatrical at times"

"I'm not theatrical! and she said I was beautiful" Hyunjin replied snidely smiled geuniuly at you.

"She said all are Hyunjin and thank you for your courtesy" Seungmin acknowledged kindly smiling at you "Humans tend to not to care that much if they offend us"

"I was raised in a bookshop that sells rarities to Oddinaries so I've learnt to be respectful to all beings, especially those who could snap me like a twig" you shrugged "although to be fair I didn't know I was actually raised by and Oddianery until last week so truthfully I'm not sure about anything I know"

"Well you know of all of our existences" Jeongin added innocently trying to make you feel better "I'm a Siren and you listed that to Minho"

"Are you really?" You asked excitedly leaning forward from Chan's chest to look him in the eyes " I've never met a Siren and I have heard such fantastical things about Siren songs"

"About us leading people to their deaths" he frowned slightly "Or about us eating sailors and stealing treasure"

"No! that even the most untalented Siren has a voice 10 times more beautiful than the most beautiful human voice and that once fully grown a Siren's call to their loved ones can be heard across an entire ocean. Is that true? I've always hoped that it is, it sounds so wonderful" you passionately replied making Jeongin quickly beam wholly again at the romantic way you described his kind.

"I'm not fully grown yet but my family always said it was true" he nodded shyly watching your eyes shine with wonder. Chan squeezed your waist slightly pleased that you were so comfortable with his brothers even stopping to explain yourself as to not cause Jeongin any hurt. Han and Felix were rapt watching you interact with Jeongin as the youngest he was always the one who could be relied upon to gauge if someone was going to be good enough to keep around. He had a tendency to make people love him and want to protect him, anyone that didn't wish to do that was not a good match in the long run.

"Seungmin is a Cambion and Hyunjin is a Incubus so the three of us are the demons in the family" he grinned still telling you about his brothers and gesturing wildly excited by the prospect of teaching you things about them. Chan always encouraged him to befriend humans and have proper friendships with them not just hook up with him like most of his brothers.

"Cambions are only half demon though aren't they? I read in one of the tomes that they are half human and half demon" You screwed your eyes shut trying to remember the name of the text but you couldn't.

"That's true" Seungmin nodded "You don't just sell books then huh?"

"It may surprise you to know that a book store is hardly party central" You replied dryly smiling at him. "I tend to read a lot of the rare things that come in unless they look particularly horrid"

"Side note Hyunjin is not my dad if that is what you are thinking?" Seungmin added almost as an afterthought as though you couldn't be stupid enough to think that.

"That never even crossed my mind, I mean other than being tall and gorgeous you don't seem that similar" You laughed watching how they all interacted together whilst you learnt about them each one hoping to impress you with information about themselves.

"Hear that Chan we're gorgeous" Hyunjin chuckled waggling his eyebrows at the man you were still currently sitting on though instead of being curled into his chest you were sitting across his lap your left shoulder subconsciously leaning against his right.

"I guess you get to see what I deal with everyday" Chan faux grumbled trying to hide his smile from you.

"I'm a Werewolf" Changbin dropped in like it was a small insignificant fact that didn't need discussion causing you to look at him slightly taken aback.

"Right, no follow up just you're a Werewolf cool" you nodded amused

"He's all about mystery" Felix rolled his eyes "Do you want to guess what I am? I won't be offended if you get it wrong". You bit your lip examining his ethereally pretty face and fine boned figure.

"I'm thinking that you are most likely....um, you promise you won't get offended I really wouldn't want to upset you?" You asked feeling slightly concerned. Felix beamed widely and nodded making you feel calmer again. It was an odd that every time you felt nervous or concerned almost instantly a wave of calmness would his you.

"Either a Fae or Nymph, both are finer boned and almost ethereal in appearance so that is my guess" You smiled eyes sparking at the pretty young guy in front of you.

"You didn't add Pixie to that list why not?" Han pouted butting in suddenly.

"Pixies are usually have softer faces, they look cuter and sweeter than Fae or Nymphs and are more likely to be bouncing off the walls to entertain people, Pixies are usually fun, cute or mischievous Fae are more defined and soft generally speaking" you tired to reiterate that both were good hoping you hadn't hurt his feelings.

"She nailed both of you then" Minho looked between the two with raised eyebrows. Felix beamed at you again, talking with them about things that were of interest to you had made you feel far more comfortable than you had anticipated which also made you realize how exhausted you were.

"I think we should call this a night and get you home now" Chan whispered in your ear helping you to stand "I'll walk you back unless you are too tired"

"I will be fine and thank you" You smiled shyly at the prospect of being alone with him.

You watched Chan as he walked beside you on the way back to your home. He seemed to struggling with something on his mind that he couldn't quite shake so you thought now would be a good time to ask him as much as you could and attempt to get to know him. The feeling of needing to be beside him, know him was alien to you but not unpleasant. It felt like you were missing him even though he was beside you, like being away from him would perhaps cause you pain or maybe just melancholy. It was surreal but also not unwanted, in truth it was confusing and so strange that your whole being felt like it had changed over a timeframe of a few hours.

"Chan how did you come to live here with such an array of brothers?" you asked innocently looking into his eyes.

"Well I guess after the loss of my two closest friends I was alone for a long time but after a while I wanted to make myself a new family, a family that was based around loyalty and love not one based on fear or power. I found Hyunjin first, then Minho and then Felix. It was either fate or something about them made me recognize the same need in them, the eight of us have been together for a few hundred years at lest but we don't really keep count." Chan explained gently. "If you want to know more you can ask the boys it is mostly their stories to be told"

You both stayed relatively quiet for another few blocks before you piped up again with what you thought might be better more simple questions.

"Which type of Vampire are you?" you hoped your question would lead to him opening up a little bit more to you.

"I was born a Vampire, so before you ask I don't need to drink blood it's more of a can if I want to sort of thing, like alcohol" She smiled watching your reaction.

"So you can have blood but just don't need it to survive?" you prompted

"Well honestly turned Vampires don't need to to survive it just makes their existence easier, more comfortable, but they don't have to have human blood it can be any blood" He explained trying to not sound like he was lecturing you.

"Is having a human, like me, as a mate an inconvenience then because you will live forever?"

"God's no, I would never think that, truthfully I never thought I would have a mate just like soul mates in human mythology Oddinary mates are also incredibly rare" He impassionedly replied proving his point by interlocking his fingers with yours. His hand was large are soft giving you a feeling of safety and calm without you even thinking on it. You walked quietly for the last few minutes before you got close to your home.

"This is my street Chan" you whispered stopping at the top of your road "should I go the rest of the way myself?"

"It would probably be best that way, I don't want to get you into more trouble than you might already be in" He smiled noticing the short glance you gave his hand linked with yours, he brought your hands up to his lips kissing the back of yours softly before letting you go. "If you need me you only need to call for me, I will always come to you" Carefully he placed a lock of your hair behind your ear as you shyly stepped forward unconsciously.

"Will I get to see you again?" you asked again hoping to not come off as too strange and attached.

"Of course, nothing could keep me away" He had whispered to you before sending you towards your home.

You walked towards your front door trying desperately to not look back at Chan every second step you took. Finally getting to your front door you turned back to see him give you a tiny wave as you let yourself in. Stepping into the entryway you came face to face with your grandmother, eyes wide and hair wild.

"What have you done child, what have you done?" She hissed angrily eyes burning into your soul as she glared

"I needed to see if you what you said was true" you whispered taking an unconscious step backwards towards the safety of the front door. You had never seen her so angry before, not ever, and it was a little frightening.

"Did you not think of the danger that would put you or your family in? Of course you didn't you are just a stupid little girl who knows nothing of the evils out there! Knows nothing about the effort I have put in to protect you for the whole of your life! So selfish, so stupid" Ranting angrily she grabbed your wrist roughly with a strength you didn't know she had and dragged you towards her room. Your heart was beating so fast you thought it was going to burst as you tried to stop her.

"Grandma, I'm not in danger I'm with you" you whimpered trying to get your wrist loose from her grip. "I'm safe with you" The fear and pain in your voice did cause her to pause halfway down the hall.

"Oh my child, every strong Oddinary will be able to sense your blood now and since you have no way of protecting yourself I will have to create a way" She scolded letting go of your wrist which you instantly cradled to your chest.

"I'm not in danger, I have never been in danger this is a different world to the one you created this necklace in" you softly refuted inching you way step by step away from her and back towards the door.

"There have always been dangerous and evil creatures, the changing of time does nothing to change this child" She exhaled the anger subsiding and turning to panic as her eyes darted to the front door suddenly widening in surprise. "They have come for you" She gasped reaching out to grab you but you were just out of her reach by now as a loud thundering knock rattled the front door on its hinges.

"No they haven't" You yelped as you darted to the door knowing who was on the other side. "This is someone one you should meet Grandma" Yanking open the door a little roughly you met Chan's almost black eyes swirling with anger. Beside him stood Minho and behind them stood Felix, Jeongin and Seungmin all with various looks of annoyance, anger except for Felix who bounced happily smiling and waving as soon as he set eyes on you.

"I'm fine" you whispered placing you hand on Chan's chest to calm him, taking a deep breath he gently took your hand from his chest and inspected the reddening marks on your wrist soothing them slightly with his touch before a tiny tendril of yellow smoke encircled the mark and made it fade instantly.

"Thank you Minho" you smiled wearily stepping aside to let them all in and lead them toward the lounge so that there was more room between them and your grandmother with you firmly stood in the middle.

"This monster was the cause of your fore bares death and you welcome him into our home, run to him as though you are his lover" Your grandmother spat the words at you like they were poison in her mouth.

"Chan had nothing to do with her death and you know it" You snapped back "I saw what happened, you made sure of it, I saw who it was and I saw Chan helping her family, leading her sister to you" you felt a swell of affection hit you suddenly which made you pause but smile in spite of the odd sensation. You met your grandmother's eyes slowly taking in her anger, fear and sadness you realized she wasn't feeling any of that towards you but towards herself, towards Oddinaries.

"I will not harm her Morrigan" Chan started to explain soothingly "She is my mate, I could never harm her even if I wanted to, she will never be in danger with me"

"She is not your mate you blood fiend, she is powerful and that is what you all want her blood" She had stepped closer to you again which cause both Seungmin and Jeongin to bare their teeth a low and chilling growls emanating from both of them. "See, evil demons he brought with him" she gestured wildly at the two youngest ones.

"Not evil at all, just demons, actually quite sweet demons if I'm honest" you smiled looking to them with soft eyes "Both have been very kind to me Grandma" Jeongin and Seungmin both tried not to smile at you as you defended them, the only human in a room full of powerful Oddinaries, and you were trying to protect them.

"Chan isn't lying I am his mate, I saw him in in my dreams when you drugged me and everything changed when I took it off" you began gesturing to your neck "I could see everything brighter, I could feel everything stronger, I could feel him, the way he felt from across a room. That means something Grandma, even if you hate me for it" you finished in a small sad voice causing Chan to instantly put his hand on your lower back to let you know he was with you.

"I will never hate you child, but I can never accept them, they are evil they will cause you nothing but pain" Your grandmother began to rant again

"The same way you are now causing me pain" You interrupted loudly "You are trying to change me with magic because you don't like something about me! You are and Oddinary the same as them! The. Same. You are the Witch of the Woods! how can you say things like that against someone you don't even know" Your grandmother's mouth audibly snapped shut at your outburst, you hardly ever raised your voice at her unless it was something incredibly important to you.

"I am not the same as those things! I was not born into this life it is my curse to bare, my punishment!" She shrieked shaking with rage "I will not let you become damned because of these abominations"

"I am an adult Grandma and I will choose whatever life I wish" You almost snarled calmly stepping into her space "you are not my blood and you have spent my whole life lying to me about what I am, who you are, what any of this is. So don't you dare lecture me on who will cause me pain in my life" Your words seemed to hit her like a slap to the face as you turned back to Chan so she would not see the tears pooling in your lashes.

"I would like to leave now" you whispered meeting Chan's softening whisky brown eyes he nodded taking your hand and leading you to the front door. The others followed the two of you silently leaving you home and quickly leading you onto the street.

"How did you know I needed you?" you murmured as Chan sat you on his lap in the back seat of Minho's car which was parked very haphazardly on the street.

"You felt scared, I felt it too so I came back to get you" Chan shrugged wrapping his arms securely around your waist for the very quick journey home. You nodded snuggling back into his warm chest turning your head to face Felix and Jeongin.

"Thank you for coming with him" You smiled at them.

"We're a family little one" Minho grinned looking at you on Chan's lap in the rearview mirror "You are now part of that family, so If you need help we will all come to you"

"You barely know me and you are being far too kind to me" you sniffled feeling overwhelmed and tired.

"It's ok, you will be safe and fine and happy with us" Felix smiled softly taking one of your hands in his making you feel instantly calmer and sleepy. You fell asleep almost instantly missing the look of gratitude Chan gave Felix or the look of happiness on Jeongin's face.

Minho and the others entered the house first to tell the remaining boys to shut up while Chan got you settled in his room without waking you. Asking them all to meet them in the kitchen so they could discuss what had occured.

"So let me get this straight, the tiny little human girl got into the most powerful witch in the worlds face about you not being evil and then told her "you aren't my blood so I will do what I want'??" Changbin laughed as Hyunjin and Han looked on gob smacked.

"More or less" Seungmin nodded not even bothering to try to hide his smile "She also said we were not evil demons we were kind one and she couldn't judge us since she's an Oddinary too"

"Chan's girl is a badass" Changbin continued to chuckle as Chan entered the kitchen. "Man your girl is awesome"

"She was quite brave standing up to Morrigan about Innie and Min" Chan conceded "Even though it was also foolish and unneeded"

"She was brave full stop. She looked like she was going to put herself between her grandmother and us" Jeongin piped up with a lopsided smile.

"Do you think they will patch things up" Felix asked no one in particular. "It hurts her to think she will no longer have her family over something she can't control"

"I don't know Lix, humans are complicated being" Minho answered quietly sending them all into quiet pondering.

You woke suddenly in a strange room and a strange bed but alone for now at least. Looking around the room you managed to see you phone and bag sitting on the desk by the window illuminated by the moonlight through the window. Getting up you padded over to it picking it up to check the time to see if you could call your mother with the time difference you she would probably be awake so you took a chance and dialed her. Picking up after the 4th ring you almost sobbed into the phone.

"Mama, I've had to leave Grandma forced my hand" you cried softly into the phone.

"Oh my baby, what happened tell me everything" she sighed.

The guys were all gathered in the kitchen talking and eating when they heard you soft voice drift through the house, the pain clear in the chocked sobs and cries that you were puncturing your words. Looking up at the ceiling they listened to you explain everything you had discovered and everything you felt, looking around at each other all of them felt sympathy for you and hoped that in time they could help you.
