“I am going to lose my fucking mind”
So you support iceland for being political and expressing support to palestine but shit on Ukraine? They are in war with Russia, sorry they won't sing about sunshine and rainbows when their territory gets annexed and thousands of their soldiers and civilians died. If you didn't notice iceland is almost universally praised. You don't have to call Jamala terrible to get your point across.
First of all, please bear in mind that I have dyslexia and English is a learnt language for me. And I apologize if this is hard to make sense oo, but I’ll try my best to make it coherent. I thought that I’m not gonna reply to this as your blog is empty but thought that might as well in case other people have same questions. So, the topic at hand. To be honest I’m quite indifferent about politics and do not support or am I against them to each their own I guess. I am just mad about the possibility of repercussions for Iceland for something so minor as having the Palestine banners during the vote count when other blatantly obvious political acts/performances have had none(and have even won). Now, I don’t know Icelandic and the finals were literally the second time I saw their entry(and god I loved it) so I don’t know shit about the message in the song, the whole performance could have been political without me knowing it. But the obvious problem here was/is the Palestinian banners(on a side note it could be argued that waving the Sámi flag is also political). As a Finn sunshine and rainbows ain’t really my thing, bring me death, suffering and the end of the world :). Palestinians are really not that much better either. Definitely they’ve made their fair share of mistakes as the saying goes it takes two to tango. The Israel/Palestine situation is far more complex than I am qualified or am knowledgeable enough to delve deeper into.
Yeah, Iceland does get mostly praise you are correct in that, but EBU has already stated that there are going to be sanctions for Iceland and that is why I’m mad about it. You are right. I did not have to call Jamala a shitfest of a show but it did kinda suck :) (I can only hope that my ears will one day recover from that wailing. Also this is my very unprofessional opinion). And the suckiness is why it first came to mind. I let my own opinions affect in choosing her as an example and I am sorry for that. In all honesty, I could have chosen Armenia with Face the Shadows or Apricot stone(it was a decent song so I didn’t) or even last years winner Netta because you can’t, in all honesty, tell me that none of those had at least some political elements in them. Even Verka Serduchkas Dancing Lasha Tumbai was on the headlines for political views because it sounded like they were singing Russia goodbye. There has been politics mixed in from the very beginning of Eurovision and there will continue to be for as long as this shitty species of mankind roams this godforsaken rock and spreads misery, death and destruction in its wake. As long as your theme is about peace, war, sexuality or environment etc, there is bound to be politics to some extent in your performance I think I lost the original string of thought when writing this and it ended being way too long reply about why I’m mad about the unfairness of Iceland getting punished for political views when hardly any other countries with more blatantly obvious expressions have not been sanctioned in any way. Georgia from 2009 comes to mind first. (I am after all quite young. The first ESC song I remember is from when I was four and it was Bye Bye Baby by CatCat, The first ESC I remember watching from start to finish is from 2002 when Estonia was the host)
