🔥 Hot off the sewing machine! 🔥⁠ ⁠ So here's a little preview of something I've been working on for the pop-up shop (remember, opening day will be next Thursday 9th June from midday)⁠ ⁠ It's a lightweight viscose fabric made with a very subtle stretch, which is perfect for summer. The fabric is OEKO-TEX 100 certified, which means that no harmful substances were used in the production of this material. Collage Crafts | Natural dyes with Leaf imprints & Ink on Fabric

Beginning with the Autumn theme, some lush berries and green leaves were picked, fresh for imprinting! Set out on a tressel, water based inks, glass and a roller to use. The linen fabric came in very handy, some designs were tested in paint, and the ink already made markings. The beautiful effects from the dye are seen in the video. Benjamin’s writing meanders from topic to topic, waxing poetic and describing the history of photography in the same breath. The wandering left me a little lost in places, but I do appreciate how artfully they discuss photography. I, myself, have used photographs to draw. This reading encourages me to reflect on how those drawings have lost much of the clarity and emotion of the moment, along with losing the “aura” of the subject. In contrast, the plein air painting and urban sketching I‘ve done makes better use of the medium and artistic eye in the moment. 

Historically, people were afraid of the likeness captured in daguerrotypes, and yet now society is so desensitized to seeing 2D versions of our own faces. Are people also afraid of 3D likenesses (captured in 360 shots), and will they also be afraid of 4D likenesses (possibly a combination of virtual reality and AI)? The mass reproduction reminds me of the easy distribution of memes across social media platforms too. I also wonder about the power of cut photos that have been turned into emotes and reacts, on Twitch and Discord respectively.
