(Author Notes)

Panel 1: Early morning. Laudna is making her way slowly alongside an empty country road running through a wildflower meadow, running her hand idly through the tall flowers. Rolling hills. An abandoned fort. Mountains in the distance. She is weeping silently.

Panel 2:  She stops and half-turns, hearing Imogen’s voice in her head, but from her position at the top of a hill we can’t see her.

Imogen: Laudna!!

Panel 3: (wide middle panel) Imogen slams into her at full speed, knocking them both off the road into the meadow.

Panel 4: Lying on her back amid the flowers, Laudna smiles up at Imogen sheepishly.

Laudna: Oh . . . hello.

Panel 5: Imogen leans over her, in a reverse position of how they first met.

Imogen: (out of breath) Why . . . why did you . . . why did you leave?

It's interesting that the member of Bells Hells most vocally sympathetic to Liliana last episode wasn't Imogen, but Laudna. Imogen of course loves her mother and wants to believe the best of her, but her repeat experiences of reaching out to her and getting nothing but cult rhetoric and vague reassurances have left her jaded to the idea that her mother could ever truly change even if she helps them

But Laudna extends sympathy to Liliana, saying she understands what it's like to be a person designed by a force outside oneself and at the mercy of their designs and whims. And I do think Laudna understands what that feels like! It's a pretty apt description of her relationship with Delilah as she perceives it. But I'm doubtful of how accurately it describes Liliana and the other Ruidusborn's relationship with Predathos, especially since we know from Imogen's role in the story that they can resist, they can fight back, and they can choose not to follow the siren's song of Ruidus. But I think Laudna sees enough of her own story in Liliana, and is lacking enough in emotional maturity, that she's drawing a one-to-one comparison where it doesn't really exist

What makes this especially interesting/odd is that there are characters in all this that do have a fairly equivalent experience to Laudna: Derrig and Will. The people killed for convenience as part of a larger plot that they were in no way involved in; murdered as a simple means to an end. But it's a woman that's part of the group that perpetrated that violence that Laudna chooses to relate to

Like yeah, what can make you see you don't have time for half-measures and dancing around someone more than death, losing a loved one, even more - them dying to save you. Hey? I love you. We should say it more, I think we don't say it enough. I love you. Hey. I've been so patient and so have you but what the fuck are we doing. I miss you. I'm struggling. Can you get here? I need you. Hey. Why are we losing time we have when all could end any moment, why are we not living, why am I not spending days I have left telling you how much I care, showing how much you mean to me, getting all the moments with you I can get? mmmmm laudna empathising DEEPLY with liliana mmmmmmm and if i say it goes beyond the solidarity of being a designed vessel, a victim, manipulated, taken advantage of, etc. ???

because when liliana said she did NOT know the full depths of the vanguard's doings you need to believe her she aided them NOT knowing this fact at all..... and when laudna said she is NOT feeding delilah power you have to believe her she does NOT understand how her power works at all and never will.
