What a sweet and powerful gesture. It's frustrating when people say "what do you expect them to do? they're entertainers not activists!" look at how simple this gesture of solidarity is and how resonant it is! This is wonderful.

If you want another woman manga author who’s just as obsessed with her characters as Ryoko Kui, but the focus is on human rights and disability/accessibility/accommodation, PLEASE read Witch Hat Atelier:
There's a diverse cast of characters!!
Queer representation with a storyline focused on how partners aren't counted as legal family (like in Japan)
Neurodivergent charaters who are outsiders but end up finding a way different than the norm to solve problems
The main atelier is like a found family with Qifrey and Olruggio leading all their students together
She also focuses on decorations and embellishments in the text, giving it a more fairy tale or mythological feel!
Modern day au's often show up on her social media as well, giving us little bonus glimpses into the character's lives
And she is a huge supporter of human rights irl as well -- the same themes in her work, she fights for personally.
Anyway, read Witch Hat Atelier <3

Shirahama has been invited as a featured guest to Toronto Comic Arts Festival (May 11-12). She drew this poster (reposted to her twitter today) for a previous year when she was invited but the event ended up being cancelled.
For fans in Canada and the Toronto area specifically, don't miss out!

[ID: An illustration of a young girl standing in front of a framed illustration of a dragon. The girl wears winter clothing and is looking up from a notebook in her hands, seemingly making eye-contact with the dragon in the frame. The dragon seems to be peering over the edge of her book. Part of the dragon's tail extends out of the frame behind the girl, like it's escaping the illustration. The background behind the dragon is a landscape with a mountain range in the distance, and in the top left there is a triangular banner reading "TCAF Toronto Comic Arts Festival". END ID]
