71st victory tour outfit dump
the victory tour is the first time i’ve used actual haute couture as inspiration for johanna’s outfits. basically agrippa apple has a winner on her hands for the first time in a decade, so she’s going the extra mile. but she consistently does either too much or not enough.
johanna’s dresses in districts 12 and 11 are inspired by designs by jean paul gaultier, from fall 2011 and fall 2006 respectively. in the fic, the outfit from 12 doesn’t have the same magenta gloves(?) because i thought it would distract from the snakeskin, which is supposed to evoke the alligator from the arena. also, i wasn’t sure how to describe those gloves in a way that isn’t clunky and incomprehensible.
the outfit for 11 is supposed to be a capitolized vision of Humble District Life. a frilly dress isn’t really practical in the districts on most days, but the capitol only sees the reapings and victory tours, when people are supposed to dress their best, so that’s what agrippa is pulling from. if it reminds you of katniss’s reaping dress, that’s intentional.
annie and cashmere’s dresses both come from zuhair murad’s aquatic serenade collection, spring 2019. i’m not a huge fashion person but this collection is genuinely gorgeous, so i thought they would serve as good contrast for how ridiculous johanna feels in the clothes agrippa gives her.
the outfit johanna wears in 4 and enobaria’s dress are both by elie saab, from spring 2003 and fall 2004. i knew the early 2000s would be rich with gaudy, poorly-aged outfits for johanna to wear, but finding the dress on the right was a pleasant surprise. it looks kind of old hollywood to me, which felt fitting for the first victor in the glorious four.

a show about an open love-letter to Jean Paul
Olivier Rousteing is a designer I respect after seeing all of his works with Balmain since 2011, so when I heard about a collaboration between the two designers, I knew it wouldn't disappoint. For me, Jean Paul's fashion shows have never made me bored because his collection, which includes menswear, womenswear, and couture, has always been unique in its own way.
Here are my top 6 picks from the Fall 2023 Couture show by Jean Paul Gaultier! As you can see, I'm obsessed with the pink dress and fantasize of wearing it as an alien princess :3.
There would, of course, be honorable mentions. Although, in my opinion, the pink alien dress remains preferable, a lady can also fantasize about owning a denim dress and a metallic dress.

Good day to you. I was wondering if you have any dresses or gowns that may give of a butterfly aesthetic or feels?
I guess this is a more literal take but these are my favorites! I’ve seen the McQueen dress at the Met and the detailing is absolutely incredible. And if you want a more understated butterfly aesthetic, McQueen’s Fall/Winter 2018 collection is a good option.
