MET GALA 2023

As of now, My top 3 of the night were (in no particular order):

Halle Bailey

Lily James

Cardi (both looks, but the pink was fabulous)

Honorable mention:

Viola Davis (me and my momma almost cried, she looked like a Barbie)

Elle Fanning - literally the more I keep staring at her photos the more obsessed I become wit her outfit. She might become a favorite in two days honestly

Janelle Monae - the thome brown coat was fantastic and interesting take on the theme to me. And just points alone for the Chanel swimsuit, I wasn’t expecting that

Rihanna - (I actually preferred her look with the vintage fendi fur coat leaving the hotel than the white dress, but I still loved the “headpiece”)

Jenna Ortega - like Janelle’s coat, very interesting interpretation of theme

Special mention:

Doja Cat - the face prosthetic was so cool (I wish they did a better job of blending it in though with her makeup, and her dress was too big)

My mom’s favorite:

Overall :

This year’s MET was really good honestly, and I think the reason people stayed on theme is because most of the people there worked with Karl , and they could easily pull vintage or current looks from Fendi, Chloe, and especially Chanel. But I really liked that a lot of people actually were dressed in other designers instead of just wearing one of those three brands cus that could have been TOO easy (though I think they needed an easy one cus they’ve been struggling)

I still hate that she decided to honor that man

The carpet was horrible and looked like toothpaste was spread across the carpet

And horrible was Anna’s outfit too

Note

Would Aro have done anything differently if he knew Bella would turn out to be a shield? I don’t know if he would still be insistent on Edward changing her if she could turn out to be such a threat. Would it be easier to simply let Edward happily live with a human for 80 years & not have to worry about the threat?

I understand it is the law, but it’s not like he hasn’t bend the rules before, esp for the Cullens.

I stand by my theory that "shield" is a bullshit term Eleazar made up.

The thing is, Aro did know, certainly he had a very good idea. Bella completely blocked Edward, his own gift, and Jane's in that meeting as a human. Later he would confirm that Demetri can't find her when he should be able to. It wasn't inconceivable that she'd be able to block Chelsea and Alec even if she couldn't for whatever reason block Alice, Jasper, Marcus, or even James.

Now, her being able to protect thirty people at a time is downright impressive, but it's not out of the realm of possibility either.

The thing was that it wouldn't matter, because in a sane world Bella Swan would never have been his enemy.

If Edward gives into pressure and turns her, then hooray for Bella, she's a vampire like she always wanted, the Cullens are law abiding citizens, and Aro never need see them again. Edward may resent him forever for this, but there's nothing he can do about it or will do about it.

If Edward ends up killing her, then it's a bit of a waste and a tragic ending, but it's out of this world. The law has been followed one way or another, the human is dead, and given history Edward will probably try to kill himself which isn't Aro's problem.

Aro, however, does not live in a sane universe.

He lives in the very strange reality, hanging by a string of chance, where Edward...

a) chooses to fuck his very breakable human wife even with the very high risk he'll fornicate her to death

b) Edward succeeds in fucking his human wife on such a level as to cause her no serious injury requiring her immediate transformation \

c) Edward's demon seed somehow, impossibly, impregnates Bella Swan with an alien, something that so rarely happens Aro's never even heard of it, because Edward really really really wanted to fuck his human wife and was so filled with hubris didn't even consider condoms

d) Bella chooses not to abort and is protected by Rosalie who prevents Edward and Jacob for cutting her open with a machete in a back alley

e) Edward changes his mind about demon babies very suddenly and almost miraculously and decides vampires have souls after all.

f) Jacob is prevented from murdering Renesmee by SUDDEN IMPRINT

g) Bella somehow survives childbirth even when the doctor's out of the room, Edward's opening her womb with his fucking teeth, her spine is broken, and her heart actually stops

h) Jasper doesn't take the baby out back behind the chemical shed despite the fact that it's a vampire baby, Alice is blind, and he must be shitting bricks

i) The Denali invite themselves over, have a history of nearly being murdered over immortal children, and the Cullens did not think, perhaps, to move and avoid them for a while until Renesmee looked an appropriate age. Anyway, the Denali invite themselves over, Irina happens to see the baby, and is far enough away that there's no time to chat.

j) They somehow convince all of the Cullen friends that they should really really really stand witness to the fact that this baby is not an immortal child. Edward just likes fucking humans.

You can see we're already on j, here, and I could keep going. Had none of this lined up, then that confrontation would never have happened, and they would find themselves weirdly pitted against the Cullens.

Aro lives in a fucking insane universe.

25 Chapters of my Life by Olga Alexandrovna - the later chapters detail how she, her husband, and two young children fled Russia

The Last Grand Duchess by Ian Vorres - a memoir written and based off interviews with Olga Alexandrovna, with quotes from her.

Vera by Paul Gilbert includes some memoirs by Vera Konstantinovna. The memoirs focus mostly on her childhood, but touch a little on the Revolution and her life in America after.

Memories of Russia, 1916-1919 by Princess Paley and John van der Kiste - more focus on the Revolution rather than settling elsewhere, but I hope it will be helpful!

Dancing in St. Petersburg by Mathilde Kschessinska - details her life as the first love of Nicholas II, her work as a Prima ballerina, her relationship with Grand Duke Andrei Vladimirovich. She and Andrei eventually fled Russia to France.

Not sure if this counts as he wasn’t Russian, but Tutor to the Tsarevich by Sydney Gibbes and J. C. Trewin details Gibbes’ life, including his fleeing to Asia and then to Oxford.

If you can speak French, this interview with Felix and Irina might be of interest to you. They talk mostly about Rasputin, but it does show their situation living outside of Russia.

Education of a Princess by Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna details her marriage to Duke of Södermanland, which saw her relocate to Sweden

These aren’t memoirs but instead secondary sources, but I thought I would include them in case they were valuable to you. Once a Grand Duchess: Xenia by John van der Kiste and Coryne Hall details Xenia’s escape from Russia and her adjustment to life in England living in Frogmore Cottage, using sources in the form of letters written by Xenia herself.

There's this instagram post where AssClass characters are given German names. Cause procrastination is my favorite pastime, I decided to give them Finnish ones. ^^ I was originally just going to share this on discord, but I ended up writing so much stuff that whatever, I'll put it here too.

As you see, I kept some of the German names, they just sort of fit, and there are Finnish versions of those names, too. Some are kinda based on people I know, so they might make sense to me but not others, maybe...

Pronunciation guide: j is said like y in you. Y, on the other hand, is the same sound as German ü. ä is said as a in bad. Otherwise just pronounce everything exactly as it's written. (Like, e.g. e's always pronounced as the eh sound and so on.) There are some explanations after the list.

Hazama doesn't like her name cause it's so cute... I tried to think of a cute name but couldn't so... going with Lahja which means gift. I suspect she wouldn't like that either. ^^;

Kimura had been named Tobias in the German list, which led me to think of Topi, and that was my grandpa's nickname, his real name being Toivo, which means hope. And as I can't think of a Finnish name that'd have anything to do with justice, I decided to go with that.

Lumi means snow, and I know that yuki in Kanzaki's name isn't written with kanji for snow, but Yukiko still sounds like "snow child" so there we go. (and I just had to give that name to someone)

In Nagisa's case I tried to think of a gender neutral name, just like his real name is. It was tempting to name him Meri (ocean, to keep the connection to water) but that's a girl's name (tho apparently it's been given to a few boys too.) Anyway, I decided on Vieno, which has kind of "feminine" meaning (something like gentle, soft) but as it ends in o it's also given to boys. (And now I'm thinking that maybe his middle name could be Meri so he'd be "gentle ocean" XD I'm sorry Nagisa...)

I really wanted to name Gakushuu Kullervo. ^^;; I'm just not sure if his dad should be Kalervo or Untamo if I did. >_> It's kinda like... Kalervo pre-Ikeda, Untamo afterwards... (I'm not sure why I named Shuu Aleksi. That just was the first name that came to my mind.)

Oh, and Karma's name Konsta is ofc actually short of Konstantin, but it makes one think of the verb konstailla which means stuff like to mess about/act up etc.

In the CW Arrowverse (stay with me), they made Mick Rory a prolific romance novelist under the pen name Rebecca Silver. As you can imagine, I adore this addition to his character and I think it should be in mainstream comic canon because it is funny as hell so:

During their pining era, Mick's next female lead was not so subtly based on Roxy.

Roxy is a casual fan of the romance atuhor, so when she read the latest book she kept thinking the main lead was just like her for real and immensely related to her.

After they get together, Roxy learns that Mick writes but doesn't think much about it until Lisa makes an off-hand comment about being Mick's muse. Then Leonard makes a comment about beta reading Mick's next book and that is when Roxy made the connection.

She short-circuited a bit because while Mick has an inspiration to her music, she didn't consider she might be his inspiration. The two have a long talk about it, and Roxy comes to the conclusion it is both romantic and creepy in the way only rogues can be.

She also joins the Rogues in not letting him live it down.

Roxy gets her karma when Irina mentions the entire three albums worth of songs Roxy wrote about Mick while trying to process her feelings but wouldn't publish because 'She isn't that kind of artist'.

Roxy does eventually release an album full of those songs. The ones that didn't make the album are for Mick's ears only (and eventually Rick but he'd rather die than admit he enjoys them).
