A Rose by Any Other Name (Chapter Two)
Tumblr media
Summary: Reader accompanies Emily to a club during a case where Spencer shows her one of his many talents with the help of the one and only Derek Morgan.
Warnings: Language (not much at all)
AN: This is based on episode 4x9 (obviously) and basically goes along with the story. Also let's pretend Courtney (the bartender) wasn't the object of Spencer's attention for his magic trick. K thanks.
Series Masterlist
---------------------༺⚘༻---------------------
The other day when I walked through the doors of the BAU I was not expecting to be thrown into my job, but of course, it happened.
I was in the technical analyst Penelope Garcia's office when all of a sudden JJ (as she now told me I can call her) went into labor. How wonderful.
I mean don't get me wrong I'm so happy for her, but I still had a good week of training that I could've used.
That was two weeks ago, so now I'm fully in my spot as Communications Liaison, and not to brag or anything.. I'm doing pretty well.
Right now we've been working a case in Atlanta where a guy of the "Alpha Male" type would kill women that he would pick up from the local bars. The team came to the conclusion that he was getting his tips from a pick up artist that seems to be teaching his skills to other men.
They call him "Viper" and, according to Emily, he's a real treat.
"He's a grade A asshole." she huffs walking into the room of the precinct I'm in.
"That bad?" I ask and she slumps into the chair next to mine.
"He makes me wanna gauge my eyes out." She says, laughing, but clearly annoyed. So far while I've been on the team she and I have gotten pretty close and she's honestly one of my favorite people.
"I'm so glad I wasn't there." I say, shaking my head. I've dealt with one too many narcissists on a personal level so if I had to listen to a guy go on for ages about how to play hard to get with a girl or blatantly insult them to get them attracted to him I'd probably lose my mind.
"Time to give the profile" Derek says as he sticks his head in the room. Emily sighs and walks out with me to the rest of the team.
They go on giving out details to the local PD and I drone out until Spencer talks to me, or at me kind of. "I like those earrings, yeah my grandma has a lot of fake jewelry also."
PARDON?
He smiles and waves it off as not serious, which I understood he was only exemplifying what our unsub does but it didn't diminish the fact that it was funny as hell.
After the team finishes I get up and Spencer walks towards me, "Um, sorry about that. I just needed to show them what the unsub learned from Viper."
I laugh and wave him off, "No no don't apologize it's fine, it gave me a good laugh so I'm really not hurt by it."
He smiles and Hotch calls us over to where the rest of the team stands.
They explain that we need to see about more of what the unsub may have learned back at the group discussions and they hint that Emily is gonna need to go back and talk to Viper.
"Oh. Oh god, this is really gonna suck."
A little later, Emily comes to me after the team splits up with a cheeky look on her face and her hands behind her back.
"Y/NNNNN...." she drags.
"Oh god what do you want." I say playfully, already knowing what she's gonna say.
"You know, Derek is bringing Spencer as a wingman, so maybe you coulddd..."
"Fine fine, but if we're hitting the club I don't think my work attire is gonna cut it." I say, looking down at the blouse and black pair of pants I'm wearing.
She shakes her head, "Ah, no worries, I have something you might fit in." She pulls out two dresses from behind her back and hands one to me.
"So you just happen to have party wear in your go bag?" I ask, looking at the black tight fit dress now in my hands.
"We go to some interesting places." She smirks and smacks my shoulder lightly, continuing, "Come on, I'll help you get ready."
She takes my hand and we go to the PD locker room, getting changed and she gets her makeup out.
"I thought you hated this guy, now you're getting all dolled up." I tease her, she laughs and starts applying her eye makeup.
"I take every opportunity I can get to look hot as shit with a job like this. Plus, we're still going to the club." She jokes back and after a couple minutes we're done getting ready and meet up with Derek and Spencer at the car.
"Heyy, looking good ladies." Derek says with a cocky smile and Spencer waves at me awkwardly.
"How flattering." Emily says and then huffs, turning to me, "You better help me through dealing with this worm."
"Of course" I say, hand on my heart and all.
Once we get to the club we decide to split up, Derek and Spencer asking girls in the club if they've seen anyone similar to our unsub, and Emily going up ahead of me while we face this nightmare of a man.
She tells me to stay back until the right time and I watch her play her game of flirting while continuing to intrigue the man. She looks back at me when he gets a little too confident and a little too close so I walk towards them, Viper's eyes following me carefully.
The conversation goes as usual, some mindless snarky remarks tossed around as he starts discussing eye contact, more specifically pupil dilation.
"Okay fifteen seconds." Emily says in response to the eye contact that Viper has been making with me, and trying to prove a point.
"What do you see?" I ask.
"Nope, no dilation."
Viper comes quick with his response, "Ah, because you have someone else on the mind."
Do I? Maybe. I don't know. No.
Emily eyes me teasingly and the conversation between us and Viper goes stale until he gives us just what we want for the case. He gives us that our unsub is going to go for his "queen bee," the focus on all his killing.
Emily calls Hotch with our findings and I meet up with Derek and Spencer as they talk, or..bicker maybe.
"Come here pretty girl," Derek says to me, I comply, confused but still.
"Pretend she's someone you're showing the unsub to, use that magic." Derek says to Spencer, putting me in front of him, but he explains to me that apparently Spencer isn't having any luck giving the profile out to the girls at the club so now he's doing..magic?
I don't know how he's not having luck, he's an attractive guy. I would feel like girls would go crazy trying to talk to him but I guess not.
Spencer looks at me like he really doesn't wanna do this, but he goes with it anyway. "Don't worry I'll play along" I tell him and he seems comforted in that.
He begins by acting as though we've never met and asks me if I've seen the man in the drawing before, I nod no and he pulls out a pen.
"We have reason to believe he has a scar about right..here." He says, running the pen through the paper and moving it around, leaving no rips in the paper.
"Woah, woah. What? How did you do that?" I ask, inspecting the paper.
He shrugs and smirks, "A magician never reveals his secrets."
Derek laughs and pats his back, "That's what I'm talking about, pretty boy!"
After the case ends smoothly we arrive at the BAU once again and settle everything down. I go to JJ's office which is mine temporarily and get some paperwork out of the way with Emily.
"So, don't mean to remind you of Viper, but, is there someone on your mind?" She asks teasingly.
"Oh god." I groan and put my face in my hands.
She snickers and responds, "Oh so there is!"
"Maybe." I say, dragging the word out. "But I don't know, he doesn't really know me that well."
She nods, I feel like she sees right through me.
"Seems like you and Spencer kind of had a good time earlier."
I choke on my own spit, "Um what?" I say, coughing. Covering my mouth as well as the slight pink coming onto my face.
She smiles and nods her head as a tall figure walks in the doorway. "Speak of the devil." She says and walks out, I look up and see Spencer, so now she's leaving me and him alone.
His eyebrows furrow, and I wave it off.
"Hello there, Houdini."  I say smiling up at him, he laughs and leans against the doorway.
"You know it's an easy trick, nothing up to Houdini's standard."
I shrug. "Eh, still impressive."
Things are quiet for a moment and there's a hint of tension in the air until he clears his throat and starts.
"You looked really nice today, by the way. Just thought I'd say." His face goes red and I smirk.
"You came all this well to compliment me?" I tease. He laughs sheepishly and shakes his head.
"No, no. I was um, I was coming to ask you if maybe you wanted to grab a coffee or something. Maybe I could show you how I really do that trick?"
He was nervous, obviously. But that didn't help the grin on my face growing and trying to hold back the blush that's definitely growing on my face.
"I thought magicians couldn't tell anyone how they do their tricks." I reply, more calmly than I thought I would've, I mean I'm just trying to play it cool.
"I can make an exception. I'll let you know, I have your number right?"
I nod and he smiles again and sticks up an awkward thumbs up, "Cool. Well, I'll see you later."
"Bye, Spencer" I say playfully and as we walks out to the hallway I peek out and see Derek standing by the doors that leave the office with a cheeky look. I can see the back of Spencer's head nod and Derek raise his arms, saying something but they're too far to hear.
Guessing Derek convinced him to go for it.
Good thing.

Okay so related to my post from last night, I wanted to elaborate on my thoughts very specifically regarding Sparrow and Hero and the messy messy nuance surrounding their relationship that often goes overlooked in the name of simply attaching the "bad parent" label to Sparrow and calling it a day. I've talked about this before, but I'm feeling it again lmao.
Sparrow's relationship with Hero is nuanced. It was destined to be nuanced the moment it was revealed that a prophecy would deem her the Chosen One. Now, I know we still don't know exactly when the prophecy was given to the twins or even what the full prophecy entails, but we do know it shaped Hero's life in an irreparable way. I don't need to tell y'all that much though, because everyone in this fandom knows that, they know what the prophecy did to Hero but I've been surprised time and time again that nobody thinks to dig deeper into their motivations: aka, why did the twins feel it was necessary to raise Hero the way they did? The easy way out is to say they are both horrible parents and call it a day (if anything is said of Lark at all- it's kind of appalling that most people absolve Lark of all blame and solely pin everything on Sparrow when they've always done everything together).
So let me explore one of the what-ifs. Say you are a kid raised as a normal kid having a normal life. One day, though, when you're a teenager, you suddenly inherit the legacy of your parents- their monsters, the end of the world, everything. Pretty akin to how s2 starts, in fact! Except while this is so sudden for you... turns out they knew the entire time that you would inherit this mantle, and they did nothing, said nothing, and now you're completely unprepared to face an eldritch monster that even your father and uncle couldn't defeat on their own. That would be pretty bad, right? Bad parenting on their part, knowing that this would happen and doing nothing?
"But that didn't happen!" you tell me, arguing in my tags and in comments under my posts. "Hero didn't have to face the Doodler!" Sparrow and Lark don't know this. As far as we know, they received a prophecy either right before or right after Hero was born saying she would be the one to face the Doodler. Normal wasn't in the picture, it isn't a question of if that would happen, it was when. What if Hero was a toddler? A child? A teenager? What if the two of them died and she was all alone in this fight? This prophecy was the only tell of the future they have, and it said that their firstborn would be the one to face the Doodler and finish the battle Lark started.
And speaking of Lark; I've said this before, but one of the more underrepresented aspects of Lark's character in the fandom is him feeling helpless as a weakness of his. He doesn't like being put in a position where he can do nothing- this being very apparent in recent episodes, when Sparrow was taken and Lark was left alone panicking. This is how the rogue card took affect on him in the first place, because he hated feeling helpless when Walter was injured and it invoked his rage at Henry for putting him in that position in the first place.
And the twins are no stranger to being dropped into a situation unprepared. They were only kids in s1, thirteen years old at the oldest, younger than the s2 teens and yeah they did their best and rose to the top but that doesn't mean they weren't kids in a world they knew nothing about. They have both been in Hero's shoes, with one caveat: they were the ones who could prepare her in a way that they were not, to ensure that no matter when she faced the Doodler, she would be ready, she would never feel as helpless as they had when they were also just kids.
And yeah, maybe they took it too far, pushed her too hard. But that's never the argument I see online- that the twins should've been more in tune with Hero's mental state and adjusted her training accordingly. Instead, all I ever see is people bashing them for training her in the first place, comparing them to the other kiddads... except even then, the other kiddads didn't have nearly as big of a stake in this as the twins did, nearly as much of the pressure. The world at the time when the kiddads inherited DADDIES didn't need Taylor or Link to be ready to face the Doodler, but the twins knew for sure that it would need Hero, and they had to raise her accordingly. What if it had happened when Hero was six? Or ten? Or thirteen? Would it have been fair to her then to go into that fight untrained? The twins could never have known that it would be Normal and his friends to actually step in and help the Doodler, at the time they couldn't have known that Normal would need to be involved at all!
And, in the end, Hero's training did stop. Again, we don't know exactly how it happened, but we do know Lark and Sparrow, and I can imagine we all agree that it would've been Sparrow's call, not Lark's, to prioritize Hero's mental health and let her finish her teenage years as a normal kid. And accepting that they shouldn't involve Hero meant they had to find an alternative solution. That solution, what we see in canon, was genocide.
It's very fun to me personally to see Sparrow's arc come full circle in that way. He gets the love wolf talk from Henry because the twins were going to kill a lot of people in their own quest, he agrees that would be wrong, and then he gets a full arc of realizing that he can't force himself to care about the rest of the world but he does care about his family. He cares about his family enough that he enacts Code Purple to send the Doodler to Faerun and save the lives of Henry, Lark, Hero, and Normal. And, later... well, we know what the kiddads plan was for reentering Faerun and collecting magic items. We know their plan was to blow up the Doodler using the Sun and inevitably wiping out an entire realm in the process. That's not an easy choice to make, and it goes against everything Henry taught Sparrow in s1... but Sparrow was willing to do it because it would mean that Hero wouldn't have to be involved. Sparrow loved Hero so much that he was going to go against his own morals to protect her and stop the Doodler himself.
And like to me. To me? That makes Sparrow a far better parent than anyone else on this app ever gives him credit for. He pushed her too hard, realized he did so, and was willing to commit genocide to ensure she never had to be the Chosen One, to prove the prophecy wrong. Like I said; it is nuanced and there's no telling how different things would've gone if the s2 teens hadn't gotten involved, if Hero had faced the Doodler in combat before she was ready, if the twins had tried the genocide plan sooner. But it does prove my point from my earlier post: everyone wants a morally grey character who is willing to commit atrocities in the name of protecting their family, and here we are with Sparrow Oak Garcia, who fits that bill to the letter, and yet he is villainized, portrayed as a horrible person and a horrible father, and more! And it's really frustrating cause I know if Lark had been the one to make these decisions it would be accepted under the guise of Lark just being "like that" as a character, or people would find it attractive because everyone agrees that Lark is morally grey in an acceptable, attractive way. Lark is nuanced, but Sparrow is nuanced too- but we know, we know that Sparrow loves his kids more than he loves himself, that he'd burn the world down for BOTH of them, and I think it's about time we stop sleeping on him as a character and stop portraying him as a villain in Hero and Normal's story when I truly believe Sparrow stands the biggest chance of all three of Hero's parental figures to reconcile with her and when he's expressed countless times that he wants to make things right with Normal if only Normal gave him the chance.

Babe, I forget that you're an Aussie like me so we probably say our names the same.
What state are you in?
Can I please request dom!yunho & corruption/praise kink?
Thank you 🙏
Hi!!
Thank you so much for this idea I don't have much written for Yunho nor do I have any "virgin fics" so I might just have to make some more after this, I'd rather not say any more about where I live tho I'd like to keep that privet! (I also don't know if you wanted hard or soft dom so I just went with soft dom cause I thought someone being a hard dom while taking someone's v-card would be a bIt much)
One Thursday afternoon
Pairing: Yunho ateez (dom) x reader (sub)
WC: 1440
Warnings: smut, corruption kink, reader is a virgin, language, lots of praise tho
----------------------------------------------------------------
If you had asked yourself to describe your perfect first time before you had even had your first time, your answer would have most likely been some cliché rose petals on the bed and vanilla scented candles bullshit that would realistically never happen.
And you were right, because the story of your real first time was much more chill, doesn't mean it was filled with any less love though because now that you think back on it, it's a memory you wouldn't change for the world.
It was Thursday around lunchtime and you and Yunho were just hanging out, snacking on some popcorn and watching some random episode of friends (the one where they play poker) but something was weighing heavily on your chest and you just couldn't shake it.
Everyone around you were always talking about the things they did with boys, how they would sneak away during frat parties and have adult fun or your girl best friend who recently decided that she wanted to try bdsm with her boyfriend!
You were no prude like you knew what sex was a how it worked, you've just never had it yourself but now it was killing you to know what it felt like because it seemed like you were the only virgin left on campus.
Yunho was your best guy friend, you share your photography class together, you bonded over your love for the 1975 and the rest was history. You were resting your head on Yunho's lap unaware that you were deep in thought until Yunho pulled you out of it.
"Sweetie, you ok?" Yunho gently ran his fingers through your hair, a look of concern on his face that made you want to melt.
You thought about it for a moment before you answered, knowing that if you didn't say anything this feeling would only get worse.
"No, actually, can I ask you something?" you sat up so that you were facing him, and he turned down the volume of the TV.
"What's it like to have sex?" you blurted out, since you couldn't be bothered beating around the bush.
"Oh ok... that's really hard to describe. It defiantly feels good" Yunho tried his best to answer without being too graphic but in reality when is sex not graphic?
Yunho was a lot more experienced than Y/N, having had many partners in the past. It was hard to say no when the girl would whisper the things she wanted to do in his ear.
He did have a special thing for more pure girls though, soft spoken and shy but then become filthy animals during the night.
"I think I wanna have sex, cause you know I'm a virgin and i've not really ever touched myself either and I just really wanna know how it feels and I'm so sick of being called prissy Y/N- Don't even say it -I hear the girls in the bathroom when they think I'm not there."
"Do you wanna have sex with me?" Yunho went straight for it.
"You would do that for me?"
"Of course doll, I adore you so much and want to make sure your first time is amazing" Yunho pressed a long lingering kiss to yout lips, which made you sigh and let your shoulders relax. "Come on, lie down for me and I'll make you feel so good"
That was how you ended up early Thursday afternoon topless and making out with Yunho. You had only ever thought of him as a friend but theres no denying that he was a looker.
You kissed for what seemed like hours but was only actually a few minutes while Yunho groped your boobs.
"Your tits are stunning doll, how has no one ever touched these!" Yunho took the time to roll the sensitive nubs between his fingers, making you let out the softest yet most sinful noises that Yunho has ever heard come from you. Granted Yunho was secretly loving that he was the first one to ever touch them.
"Even your moans are soft, soft and pretty just like you" and just when you think you couldn't blush more thats when he decides to take off your bottoms and the rest of his clothes. Yunho wasted no time considering a pretty girl was letting him have sex with her.
At first it was a finger, just one finger, and it probed so softly in between your folds so that he wouldn't hurt you. Yunho stayed like this for a while, just thrusting one finger and using his thumb to rub tiny circles on your clit, he wanted you really relaxed before he moved things further.
"How's this doll?" Yunho asked, when he added a second finger.
"Hmm, not so bad" you mused, the little circles on your clit drawing you closer and closer to something that you didn't know much about.
"Ok, and what about this?" Yunho fingers added more pressure and it somehow got you even closer.
"Yun, It feels funny, like it's building up?" your voice was so breathless you don't even know how you managed to even say it.
"It's ok sweetie it's called an orgasm, just let go I promise i've got you"
"OOH fuck-" and before you knew it, you were 'letting go' your whole body was shaking from the intense pleasure.
After about a few seconds you started to come down, breathing heavily and wiping some sweat that had formed on your forehead. Yunho leaned down to sweetly kiss your lips, a smile plastered on his face,
"You did so well, nice and relaxed now hmm?" he asked, even though he knew the answer.
All you could do was nod, still a little too hazy to talk and Yunho understood. He didn't ask you to answer him he was just glad that now you were ready for him.
"I'm gonna push in now ok? it might sting a little so let me know if you wanna stop" Yunho warned after putting on the condom and then he pushed in.
Yunho was immediately met with resistance, and a few whimpers from you.
"Ow ow mmh, oh-"
"It's ok baby, I promise it's ok, just take a deep breath"
You took a deep breath-
"That's it doll let me in-"
"It's so deep-"
Everything was blurry, the only things on your mind was the feeling of his dick inside you. Was sex always this intoxicating?
You couldn't comprehend anything, all you could do was moan and grip the sheets. It was all so overwhelming but in such a good way.
Yunho wasn't much different, he just kept thrusting at a soft pace to get you used to the feeling and once he thought you were truely ready for him thats when he started to go a little faster.
When he started to go faster thats when you could no longer take it, becoming an even more moaning mess and even crying a little, it just felt so good, too good.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any more, MORE, Yunho started rubbing those tiny circles on your clit again.
"I'm close, are you close?" Yunho grunted out, his thrusts still staying at the same pace. To be honest you weren't close before but now that he was rubbing on your sweet spot, you were instantly close.
"Yeah, close" you still couldn't speak full sentences but that was enough information for Yunho to know that you were enjoying yourself, otherwise you would have asked him to stop.
Within seconds of asking that question Yunho was cumming, all hot and warmth filled you up but not really, which you knew you would be thankful for later. A few more of those addictive circles later was when you were cumming again, this time somehow even stronger than the last.
"Oh my god that was amazing" Yunho was the first to speak, while you were still catching your breath Yunho took to wiping you down with a cloth and leaving small kisses along your body.
"Mmh, it was, thank you" You finally were able to say something after the cloudy haze started to ebb away. "Didn't think it was gonna feel that good like fuck me I've been missing out" you added.
"You can thank those circles, most men forget to do that and only think about themselves. I hope it didn't hurt too much"
"I mean at the beginning it did but it was so fucking good after" you sat up after being offered back your top and a glass of water.
"So, same time tomorrow??
"Theres nothing else I'd rather be doing."

A few days ago, the DRDT channel made public a “character song” playlist with sixteen songs inside (link). Naturally, considering this means that every character has a theme song of their own, I became Fucking Obsessed and tried matching each song to every character
Out of sixteen, I have exactly Four I am completely and absolutely confident in. That’s like, (checks notes), a quarter of the songs. I wish four was as neat of a number as three but unfortunately I do not get a choice in that regard. This would’ve been a quick post on which song I think matches with who + why but these guys made me recite an essay to myself as I paced around the room. So they deserve their own post <3.
Featuring: screenshots, hidden quotes (link) (required reading), and a shit ton of brainrot. explanations are below cut. tl;dr:
Rose is Cartoons
Charles is Asymptotic
Nico is Drawing Pins
Teruko is Good Grief

Rose Lacroix is Cartoons
[plain text: Rose Lacroix is Cartoons]
Track #4 is Cartoons by Louie Zong, and I have decided this is Rose’s track too. This is one many, many others have suspected as well. Starting it off with this first because it’s the simplest to explain: Rose is an artist, the lyrics are about art; or, at the very least, uses animation and drawing as metaphors.
Abstractions how I live my day to day, [...] Hard to explain, And to express, Forever just a work-in-progress.
The song in general uses drawing to explain feeling burnt out/not passionate about. Well. Your passions. Rose states herself that her work can only give her catharsis, considering none of it technically “hers” anymore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Two screenshots of  Rose from chapter 2 episode 5. She is in the dressing room talking to Teruko, and has her hand on her neck as she looks downwards. Transcript: All I do is make paintings on other’s beck-and-call. It’s been so long that I don’t think I remember how to paint something original anymore. / There’s no value in the creations of someone who’s fallen so far from artistry. The only thing I can get out of art is catharsis. End ID]
Which is even more tragic, considering how she had huge ambitions as a child
Tumblr media
[ID: One screenshot from the same episode. Rose now rests her chin in her fist. Transcript: I wanted to be a great painter when I was a kid, but things didn’t turn out that way. None of my original stuff ever sold well. End ID]
There’s also these lyrics here
Can't hold a pencil or a thought. (Oh uh oh) Can't paint myself something I'm not.
Tryin' to make that ol' deadline, But all I've got are two dots and a line.
Rose knows she’s talented; in fact, I’d argue she’s one of the most secure about her talent than anyone in the class. She understands how useful it is in the killing game when paired with her photographic memory. In chapter 2, however, she hesitates, despite knowing this more than anyone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Three screenshots of Rose from chapter 2 episode 8. She is sitting against a wall, knees drawn to her chest as she buries her face in her arms. Transcript of her dialogue: I don’t want to find out what kind of corpse Arei left. It’s easier for me to pretend nothing bad happened and forget about everything tomorrow. / That’s why I’m sitting here, wallowing in my own guilt, unable to do anything helpful. / You probably need me to draw a picture of a crime scene, like last time. That’s something only I can do that can help everyone. End ID]
She doesn’t want to use her talent that way—she can’t “paint herself something she’s not”, and she would “make the deadline”, but she can’t just will herself to simply Do Something when it’s draining and linked to her trauma from the previous case—and she’s more self conscious of it than anyone, that she only has “two dots and a line” —an upset face.
There’s also her hidden quote from the inspect elements of her character page: “In the end, all I can do is watch my wretched life go on.” I think it fits with the general theme of being incredibly discouraged and burnt out. “Forever a work in progress” indeed.

Charles Cuevas is Asymptotic
[pt: Charles Cuevas is Asymptotic]
I’ve chosen Asymptotic by (once more,) Louie Zong as Charles’ song. I could say it’s because of the mathsy theming and Charles is literally a fuckging chemist and leave it at that—I almost chose this as Min’s song because of how groovy and nerdy (affectionate) it was. I’m sorry to say it’s because of angst.
We’re aymptotic, Divided, by the smallest, slimmest line
Hey, so you know how Charles has an older brother ?
And you know how he didn’t know this until one of the motives told him ? So now there’s a good chance he won’t remember him fully for a long, long time ?
[you’re] Not imaginary. But it's complex! The limits are infinitely great
Charles now knows of this family member he has no recollection of. He most likely existed at some point—every other secret, though written to show the worst of the cast, are based on some sort of truth. I have a pet theory that his phobia of blood is connected to his brother, considering amnesia of a traumatic event is a common occurrence, and he doesn’t recall the origin of his haemophobia either, which opens up the possibility of them being linked. As long as he has this amnesia, any memory of his brother will always be far from his grasp.
As close as we could ever get, you'll be just out of reach
His hidden quote is about how it’s better to just forget; that means those events weren’t worth keeping.
if you forgot it, then it probably wasn’t important to begin with. none of those memories should ever be kept anyway.
In the context of the creator looking at the lyrics of the song and going “omg that’s blorbo from my brain”, the song refers to him as believing that he and his brother are asymptotes—lines that greatly resemble each other that will never reach, existing in different planes altogether.

Nico Hakobyan is Drawing Pins
[pt: Nico Hakobyan is Drawing Pins]
So.
Drawing Pins by Nothing but Thieves ! This song in particular fucking Stumped me. The lyrics are good, they slap, the Creator has fantastic taste in music; I just couldn’t figure out who the Hell it could be. Then, I had an epiphany.
This epiphany, by the way, is also probably one of my BIGGEST reaches. It completely redefines the song—even MORESO than how I treated asymptotic—and focuses hard on One aspect of Nico’s character.
(In my defense, it’s a really huge part.)
I don't feel like I belong Here at all
Tell me what you did it What you did it What you did it for 'Cause I can't figure it out
What do I have to do To be loved, loved by you
These are the lyrics in particular that made me go “wait a god damn Second”.
Firstly, not feeling like they belong.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Two screenshots of Nico from chapter 2 episode 6. They hold their arm and look nervously to the side in the first screenshot, then bury their face in the collar of their shirt in the next. Transcript: I thought you would laugh at me. I was worried you would pick up rocks and start throwing them at me or pick up clumps of mud and start throwing them at me. / I’m sorry, this never happens! Usually people call me abnormal or say that I’m just trying to be special, in a derogatory way. End ID]
Nico has been a frequent victim of bullying. Even though their current classmates are accepting, that just made them wary that something was off, because their past experiences stuck with them ! I feel like it should go unsaid that that, already on its own, is pretty fucking isolating !
Tumblr media
[ID: a screenshot from the same episode. Nico is in the same pose. They say “And then they leave me out of everything and never talk to me again because there’s something wrong with me.” End ID]
So, self-explanatory line in the context of Nico. Cool. Cool. What am I seeing in the other lyrics, though ?
Tell me what you did it What you did it What you did it for 'Cause I can't figure it out
Okay, so. You know Nico’s hidden quote ? It’s “why should I own up for the mistakes someone else made?”, if you’re wondering.
There’s another reason they don’t feel like they belong.
There’s this running thread of Nico misunderstanding social cues, causing conflict and being scorned for it, but never being explained why those social cues exist, leading to them confused on why something so arbitrary is held to such importance. This causes this cycle that they’re just expected to escape, yet not being given the understanding or tools to do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Three screenshots of Nico from the same episode. Nico looks down at their hands, then scratches their chin, then buries the bottom half of their face in their shirt. Transcript: If you’re having dinner and want someone to pass the salt, you can say, “Please pass the salt,”  or you can say “Give me the salt.” / One of those things is supposed to be more polite than the other, right? But why? They both meant the same thing. They’re just slightly different mixes of words. / It’s like that. I don’t understand why some mixes of words come off as ‘rude’ and some don’t, even if they mean tthe same thing. End ID]
I suspect the hidden quote is of Nico snapping, of not caring about being polite or nice anymore. They are already honest, which escalated their animosity with Ace, but this time they’re not caving if someone tells them that they’re being “too blunt” about it.
What do I have to do To be loved, loved by you
But it was never on purpose. They are not “blunt” or “brutally honest” to Ace or David whoever because they want to build that kind of reputation. I think these lyrics are suggesting a culmination of their arc, “What can I do to be loved ? Why should I apologise in place of the person who did hurt you ? Why am I constantly apologising for my existence ?
How do I win over people like you?”
I am fully aware that I may be reaching, but if you see the song as a representation of Nico’s rage and resentment that they had to “hold down by drawing pins”, you can at the very least see where I’m coming from.

Teruko is Good Grief
[pt: Teruko Tawaki is Good Grief]
Good Grief by Bastille, aka the last song on the playlist !
I’ve seen people say it’s a Whit song, or a Charles song, and I see it ! Death is very important in both of their arcs, and so is their way of mourning. However, I feel like it couldn’t be anyone but Teruko, and I also feel like there’s a very important part of her that people often forget.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Two screenshots from the episode 1 of the first chapter. They are lines of Teruko’s inner monologue. Transcript: His name, her face, it’s just barely out of reach. I claw and grasp through the dusty haze of my memories. / Choking on my nostalgia, I keep begging for you to come back. End ID]
Tumblr media
[ID: A screenshot from chapter 1 episode 9 of Mai Akasaki turning around and smiling at the viewer. End ID]
Teruko mourns.
At the very least, she tries. She misses people. She grieves. That is what drives her distrust—she knows how much love hurts, and doesn’t want to feel that way.
Tumblr media
[ID: A screenshot from chapter 2 episode 3. Teruko playing with succulents in her room as if they are dolls. One succulent has an eyepatch and knife, and the other has a knife and a sticky note, with a cowlick resembling Teruko’s. End ID]
Even in this silly moment of Teruko playing with cacti—it shows she didn’t WANT Xander to die ! She misses him. She wishes it could’ve gone better and blames herself for trusting—and notice how Xander in this scenario stands by her side.
Every minute and every hour I miss you, I miss you, I miss you more
She “chokes on her nostalgia” when she thinks of two unnamed people, “begging them to come back”. Will she ever admit it? Fuck no are you kidding me she couldn’t be emotionally vulnerable to save her Life. But Teruko constantly loses and is never given time or space to mourn (That is what I meant when I said she tries), and it’s led her to bottling and hiding them to further isolate herself, to prevent her from losing the ones she loves again.
In my thoughts you're far away And you are whistling the melody, Whistling the melody Crystallising clear as day Oh I can picture you so easily, Picture you so easily
Again, the two people are “far away”, she’s half forgotten after all. But Mai Akasaki’s image is as clear as day. Her memories are one of the only traces of Mai we have at all.
I could repeat myself over and over with pretty much every lyric of this song in particular, so I suggest seeking it out and listening to it yourself. I cannot stress enough how much this song SCREAMS Teruko to me
=
Overall, I’m fully ready to be wrong. I do not have a great track record when predicting story arcs. However, I have thought about this for a very intense bit of time, so this is to work as a way to get my thoughts out there.
I have a few hunches, like Shun-Ran for David or Jotaro’s theme for Xander, but both are just hunches, and neither are as strong as the four above.
Anyways, have a great day ! holy shit this is over 1.7K words excluding the image descriptions.

okay I've watched Fionna and Cake and WOW I enjoyed it a LOT more than I originally thought I would.
I had to sit with the last episode for a while. Trying to decide my feelings on it, you know? My first reaction to how they painted Simon and Betty's relationship was that they did that so the audience could better cope with Simon's choice to move on. Thought about it more and yeah, I was wrong. It just removed the rose-colored glasses. I think the one thing I didn't like was Beth spelling the whole thing out, like yeah I got it. The chose your own adventure allegory worked! I got it. I like the last episode! The part when GolBetty was still protecting Simon when Scarab kept trying to fuck with him got me emotional
Winter King was the biggest tumblrsexyman bait I have EVER seen- selfcest bait and all! Pretty funny, I respect it.
Loved both what Gary and Marshall Lee were doing and what was happening with the main characters. I wasn't sure if I would be too interested in them, but fucking. I got invested in the baking!
BRO THE THEME SONG!?!?! I had only seen the one for the first episode beforehand, so the real intro was a surprise to me! I love it!
Trying to organize my thoughts is hard uuhh just I liked it and will probably rewatch it :]
1. ok the thing about the choose your own adventure allegory isn’t that it’s just that. I thought it was the one weak aspect at first too but in the ending sequence there’s a reveal that totally recontextualizes it
remember the little girl who wanted to be a writer because of ice king’s fionna and cake books? she sketches casper and nova during that sequence. casper and nova isn’t just some random allegory they pulled in — it’s HER BOOK. those are her ocs based off of the stories simon told her about him and betty, and ultimately it was that girl’s portrayal of them, not beth’s explanation, that made him realize what was going on
re: beth, I think it was at least a very interesting dynamic. simon is usually paired with characters either much younger than him or just less worldly than him, and he’s very book/world smart, so I think people tend to forget how immature he can be. ice king was just simon to the extreme after all, not to mention the way simon acts in the earlier episodes (him refusing to run from scarab because he just doesn’t feel like it is a great example). he’s a very smart guy but sometimes he gets so caught up in that that he doesn’t step back to consider anything except surface level logic. pair that with him going slightly mad with worry and I fully understand why beth thought he was shermy doing a bit
simon isn’t childish per se, but there’s a lot of things he doesn’t know because he doesn’t ever really look outside his own perspective, and I like how casper and nova illustrated that. simon has always been this sort of fatherly figure that everyone else admires but nobody else sees the worth in, he’s always trying to shoulder so much for no reason. there’s been this imagery the whole season of simon caring for people younger than him (baby finn, normal finn, fionna, astrid, etc) but he never actually lets himself be cared for. so it makes sense that him being given the grace that a kid would be given and ultimately realizing his wrongdoing after seeing himself through the eyes of a child would be a thing that happens
2. you’re so right about gumlee me too man. the scene where they kissed while pb n marcy were hurtling to their toxic codependent yuri deaths was crazy. holy shit
3. I honestly think there’s a LOT to winter king I have a couple posts worth of analysis on it. I think the idea of simon doing something so wildly unethical is very fascinating I loved watching him spiral into madness. slay
4. the biggest surprise for me I think was cake’s arc? like looking back I totally should’ve seen it coming but it was I think my favorite ongoing plotline from the show. her wishes being at odds with fionna’s presented this really interesting dynamic that finn and jake never had and the way she was a narrative foil to simon was like. ohhhh that was fucking evil of the writers . simon desperately wanting to destroy his mind and cake desperately wanting to keep hers. the way that translates into their dynamic with each other. the terrifying dawning realization that fionna might prefer her non sentient. of course it isn’t true, but it would’ve felt that way, no?
also just fucking. “everybody dies. they should get to die as themselves.” “fionna, I am myself. like this.” what if I spontaneously combusted killing everyone in a 3 mile radius. what then

Dragon Age: Absolution
Naturally, I binged it, lmao.
Spoilers below!
I really did like the show, I think they had a good plot and an interesting story to tell! I do think they could have benefited for a longer build up tho, like maybe another episode between 1 and 2, to show us the journey and maybe build the relationship between Miriam and Hira. (More on them later.)
I do love all the lore we got. We already kinda suspected - or straight up knew? - that Solas was a spirit of wisdom, but it only seemed to confirm it. There is the implication of a connection between Dragons and Qunari, as we already knew. Tevinter fucking sucks, which we already knew. But there are very fun Lore tidbits here and there.
First, m'boy, my love... Fairbanks, brother, what did they do to you? I knew you were good the whole time, I never doubted it! But you had me worried for a lil bit. At least, my Orlesian boys are all good, so it's fine, it's cool. Even if one is dead 😭😭😭
Tassia was kinda of a underdog standout for me. I like her VA and she seemed genuinely sympathetic. She's not my fav, but they did interesting things with her. Or maybe I just like a woman with a huge hammer... it could be it, tbh. Her loverboy - who is the main villain, ye, but like... he's fine? He's an entitled jerk who thinks he can own people. Okay. Seen it, heard it, moving on.
Rolland and Lacklan are so stinking cute! I love the, adore them, no notes. Rolland is my fav of the two, but he's Orlesian so that was to be expected if you know me, lmaoo. Lacklan, however, grew on me a lot. I love them together, they are super cute.
Qwydion.... I've only had her for about 8hrs, but if anything happened to her, I would kill everyone in this room and then myself.
I liked Miriam and Neb - yes, I am putting him here and not with the Asshole™️ because he deserves better - and I really liked what they did with their relationship to Asshole™️. There was never any doubt in Neb's mind on what to do; what Miriam felt - that ignominious sting of slavery - was exactly the same way he did, and that was not only so validating but also so beautiful to see. Miriam is obviously a traumatized woman, but I love how she rose and stopped running. There is something really beautiful there too, especially in the way she acted towards that little girl; when she was running, she hurt other people, when she stopped, she saw to it that she would help.
Hira was... alright? Probably my least favourite character besides The Asshole™️. I had bad vibes from the beginning, there was a music cue when she appeared that left me very suspicious.
Which leads me to... Bioware, once again, doing the WLW betrayal and honestly? While the others - Leli/Marjolaine and Celene/Briala - were bad, they were kinda forgivable with context and some understanding of the setting. This one tho? This one? Jesus Christ. Miriam, babe, she tried to send you back into slavery and you want to get back together? Listen, I am the Queen of Problematic WLW ships, I will be the first to tell you. But this one? Ooof.
The final twist tho? fjlkdsafjlasda I cannot believe- Meredith Fucking Stannard, in the year of our lord 2022? It's more likely than you think
Seems like they set up for a Sequel. I hope they get it tbh, it was very fun!

Hi! I'm pretty new to tumblr and I have no idea if it's appropriate to come into your askbox to talk about my drdt chapter 2 theories but I'm not confident enough to make my own post and it's more a fun thought I just had than an actual theory
/! \ this will contain spoilers for drdt obviously as well as THH in case people who follow you somehow havent played the game
the gist of it is, someone who is not the culprit could have messed with the crime scene.
It's mainly because so far the chapters seem to have reference to THH in more ways than just with the motives (it is probably too soon for it to be a pattern and ngl i kinda hope its not because if it is, with what we know of Rose' money issues she might end up the ch3 culprit and I want her to live so badly. would make the whole series a bit too predictable also, although i dont personally mind that kinda stuff)
because like. Chapter 1 had someone who got close to the protag, ended up betraying their trust, chose the murder location to frame someone specific, failed their murder attempt and died as a result with the real culprit technically acting in self defense (although its not 100% the case for Leon)
and in chapter 2 we have the victim who died a pretty quick and violent death (at least im pretty sure chihiros cause of death was a violent hit to the head? been a really long while, i could remember wrong) but the murder scene make it seem more complicated. And the victim died just after they decided to change/improve themselves in some way also
In both cases someone who has nothing (at least probably, in Davids case) to actually do with the murder have some pretty big part of themselves exposed during the trial
idk who would mess with the murder scene and for what purpose (Vero. for funsies. What a Legend)
I'm probably wrong cause that doesnt really explain the evidence at the crime scene. like. at all, i know
like Idk what the spinny thing has to do with anything (I mean you could put a bunch of tape on the handles just 'cause, i guess? but it would make more sense if it were involved in some sort of mechanism which you wouldn't need if Arei was already dead)
same for the ball of clothes and the flickering light
Whoever put the fish there though, whether its the actual killer or not, I'm pretty sure they did it to make everyone think the crime couldn't have happened at night time and fish water was actually never part of the murder itself
that would make someone physically strong like Levi the killer tho and even though it would make sense (pretty sure at this point that Arei has his secret) I feel like its too soon for him to die? Eden got more development and makes more sense to me (which breaks my heart, I love her)
Hi! Don't worry, none of us know what we're doing in this website! :D
No need to be shy about making your own posts, but it's also fine to talk/ask me about whatever crosses your mind! So, your theories/thoughts.
The possibility that someone other than the killer screwed with the crime scene is one I've seen before, and technically speaking, something like that most likely happened. I think it was an accomplice of the killer (Eden!Blackened Levi!Accomplice gang rise up), but a third party is part of other theories.
The fish are the main thing: given Nico's account (fish were all still there when they last fed them, which can be deduced to be around 7:00 - 7:30 PM of the third day, the day most of episode 7 takes place in), whoever took the fish must have done it at around the time the characters believe the murder happened. But there's no reason for the killer to bring the fish unless they were trying to confuse the time of death, which would only matter if they can have an alibi at the time the fish disappeared. But if they have an alibi at the time the fish disappear, they can't have taken the fish! (Which, btw, eliminates Veronika. Unfortunate, they won't let women do anything these days, not even mess with crime scenes for funsies smh)
So either it was someone unrelated messing with the crime scene, or an accomplice took the fish there to give the real killer an alibi. I'm planning to do a post summarizing my theory on how exactly the whole mess happened, so uh, stay tuned ig. But if you're interested in the "David screwed with the crime scene" idea, I recommend reading thebadjoe's theory on the murder. I may not agree with it, but it's still a fantastic post and a really fun read!
As for most of the other stuff, yeah Arei's death probably wasn't very simple. Explaining the odd contradiction of her wrists being bound but a mechanism clearly being involved (as you mentioned, tape on bars and flickering light, among other stuff) is a whole mess. It's part of why I'm not really sure this is absolutely supposed to parallel THH. Like clearly there's some similarities, but it's basically impossible to know what aspects of a case would be similar and which ones wouldn't. So, uh, yeah. Who knows.
I do agree Eden's the killer though! Why else would she take the tape from the gym? If you don't know what I'm talking about, basically the gym lockdown and the tape disappearing seemingly overnight makes it impossible for anyone but Teruko, Ace or Eden (or I guess Rose if she's lying) to have taken the tape. But since the tape also disappears from the background right after Ace wakes up... yeah, just Teruko Ace or Eden. But we know Teruko didn't, Ace couldn't have done it without Teruko noticing, and Eden got knocked to the floor when the tape disappeared from the floor :p
And yeah, it hurts. It will be a sad day when the killer gets executed, regardless of who they are, but especially if it's Eden T_T

G-Witch episode 10 thoughts
This episode had so much happen in a small timeframe. All of it excellent but it's gwitch, so is anyone surprised? It's so efficient at conveying what it needs to and keeping us engaged. Going to touch on my overall thoughts linearly so I don't miss something important—
Tumblr media
And right off the bat, we're treated to a drastic change in Suletta. Where once she was a bit neutral when mentioning Miorine, she's now progressed to blushing and gushing over her bride. She takes pride in being the only person who can tend Mio's greenhouse. This smitten goof even counted the days and hours until Mio returns. My god, this was a welcome surprise
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Buying matching keychains too?? I've consumed enough anime/manga to know this isn't the behavior of a mere friend. There's a romantic connotation that can't be ignored, and combined with Suletta's insistence that she's the groom to Mio's bride—Suletta fall in lova
Tumblr media
btw this joke is gold and coming from Suletta made it more hilarious. My guilty pleasure is puns, and it's nice the translators adapted it perfectly for us english watchers
The company progression in this episode was also incredible. We have them focusing on furthering GUND prosthetics and the inclusion of Belmeria is lovely after the revelation she was once an aspiring medical engineer. It's evident Belmeria is all too happy to see GUND's original purpose flourish, while Prospera seems apathetic at best :/
Of course, it's not all rainbows in Sulemio land as company intrigue is alive and well. Another Elan clone took the stage too, this one apparently close to Elan Prime in wicked personality. He's a snake and sows doubt in Suletta's Mio-infatuated head.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She pushes him away and flees, openly disturbed. It's good Suletta's rose-colored Elan lenses fractured but his words left their mark. And Miorine's next scene worsens it inadvertently.
Tumblr media
Now I don't blame Miorine for reacting the way she did. It makes perfect sense imo for her to consider all the tasks she gave to Suletta as burdens and not something Sulletta has taken with pride. Miorine has never had someone do anything for her simply because they care. She's used to transactional relationships so this isn't surprising behavior.
We as the audience know Suletta has changed in her feelings for Mio. Mio does not, and is working off of outdated notions of Suletta's Elan fixation. There's also the chance Mio spotted the two together earlier and misunderstood what was happening. Either way, Mio is only doing what she feels Suletta would want... a hit and then a miss. Still, they're moving slowly toward each other even if it doesn't seem like it. Romantic tension is here everybody~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of romance and contenders, Shaddiq remains in the game. I had a feeling he hadn't thrown in the towel just yet; he's far too crafty and ambitious. We know his play now too or parts of it. He's deciding to bypass the duel system altogether and go right for the throat of Benerit.
He makes an interesting point that despite Holder Suletta, Shin Sei cannot take control after Delling passes/cedes. Mio's shares alone aren't enough. He intends to rid Bernerit of Delling regardless, and if his gambit with the Earthian mercenaries we see is successful then I assume he'll strong-arm Mio into an alliance to secure Benerit for Grassley and Mio—perhaps with another proposal. It's shady but not unexpected.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because Shaddiq is the prince of this Utena homage. Something Elan was also previously referred to; only not an icy fake. Shaddiq has officially been upgraded to a major antagonist in other words. I could be looking too deep into the Utena parallels but considering gwitch (and Ōkouchi) knows their stuff I'm not discounting anything.
Poor Nika is caught in the middle, and her father of sorts seems to head the earthian group—Dawn of Fold. If the next episode title is any indication, we're in for a reckoning.
Tumblr media
Oh and Guel appeared again... as a worker? That's neat, though I wonder if he'll help fend off the Earthian 'witches' somehow. Guel's fate is most uncertain at the moment, but I'm curious where he'll go from here!
But enough of the dour future. Let's all bask in Suletta declaring she's the groom in this relationship like a twitterpated goober
Tumblr media
Edit: A friend mentioned to me the possibility of Imposter Mio and it makes too much sense for me to dismiss it. Peil facial switching tech, Elan 5, and Mio's early arrival? It's very suspect. I assumed her outsourcing the greenhouse work was just Mio being conscientious of Suletta, but now...

My Criticisms of Change Your Mind
Tumblr media
These are the problems I had with this episode overall, though I will still attempt to add possible solutions whenever I can.
The Crystal Gems
Tumblr media
One of the first things that annoyed me with the episode is the amount of involvement the Crystal Gems had in it. Because outside of each of them fusing with Steven (which I believe is more for fan service, if anything) and all of them fusing to form Obsidian, none of them seem to make any meaningful contributions to the final confrontation with White Diamond. Almost immediately after they enter White's ship with Steven, they're taken out of commission by White until the end of episode.
Also, this is problem I've noticed with the Crystal Gems, especially in the later seasons, they immediately get curbstomped by whatever gem threat they're facing, leaving Steven to be the one to have to deal with them, mostly without help. It gets to the point that even Spinel (a gem with no fighting experience whatsoever) can easily take all three of them out in the movie.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6fJp-hoH-s I mostly agree with this YouTube video that Steven is the only character who actually communicates and the other characters don't, though I instead believe there should have been ways to work around the first-person perspective, even if it involved characters making decisions off screen. One moment that sticks out to me after this is how the show treated Bismuth's bubbling in her titual episode and eventual release in Made of Honor. In Both episodes Bismuth's fate is left to Steven to decide and the Crystal Gems just accept it without questioning it or offering any input on the situation. Getting back to this episode, I believe it would've been better if the Crystal Gems were written out of it, at least until after White Diamond had been defeated, and have the Steven and co. enter White's ship another, either through being flown or leviatated to the top, by either Lapis or Peridot respectively. Since their goal is to simply talk to White Diamond and not to fight her, this would have been an effective way to enter the ship. Another option would have been to have them contribute more and showing White how gems changing outside their designated roles doesn't have to be a bad thing.
Also rest assured, that at this point, this isn't the only show's finale where I would make the criticism that characters should have been written out of episode until the end or simply contributed more to the story.
2. White Diamond's characterization and motives
Tumblr media
One of the few times where I can actually agree with The Roundtable is the criticism of the way White is portrayed from her first appearance in Legs from Here to Homeworld to this episode. In the former episode, while still being slightly condescending, she has a more motherly and welcoming tone in her voice. Also, it seems as though she was going to portrayed as being oblivious to the harm she's causing others as she mostly welcomes Steven as Pink Diamond, back to Homeworld and sends him to her room, which seemed to give off this mindset of focusing on managing the empire and not processing anything that happened in the time Pink was gone. However, in Change Your Mind, she is even more condescending towards Steven (though she still refers to him as Pink) than the former episode, talking down to him by saying, "look what happened last time," and overall appearing more arrogant.
Also the revelation that White knew Pink was Rose Quartz makes her contribution to the corruption beam make no sense because why would she help blast the planet or even allowed something that like that all with Blue and Yellow if she knew? White claims to be perfect, she knows Pink isn't dead, and the End of an Era timeline shows that didn't take the rebellion seriously, but if that's the case why didn't she tell Blue and Yellow Pink was still out there, or was Rose. Why did she instead go through with the attack alongside the former two diamonds, even though it would ruin what Yellow describes as "perfectly adequate gems." Also wouldn't it have already poked holes to White in the idea the she's a perfect gem who puts logic before emotion (more on this later). If White actually thought Pink was alive and was coming back eventually, why would choose to hide in her ship, furthermore, why does she continue to do so even after she thinks Pink is back? One more thing to note is if she thought Steven was just Pink using a kid as a vessel, why didn't she think to remove the gem from him when she first saw him instead of doing so when she sees him again? Overall, I believe most of White's character in this episode seems to contradict what was setup about her in Legs. An idea to resolve this would be to build into this characterization in more subtle methods, as in having Blue and Yellow show more harsher methods of controlling Steven as Pink, which would actually be done in their attempt to keep "Pink" safe from White until she herself decides to take charge, which Legs also appeared to set up with them.
I believe an idea to solve most of White's decision process would be to make it that White actually knew she wasn't perfect and was trying to present the idea to everyone that she was, similar to how Blue and Yellow know they're not perfect, but still try to maintain the idea that they are. Also, I would have it that White did actually buy into the idea that Pink was shattered, but never wanted to accept that Pink was actually dead. Doing so would likely help most of her decisions make more sense as she's prioritizing the image of a perfect empire over actually helping others, which would play into themes of toxic perfectionism (skip to this timestamp for more insight on what I mean: 19:07) seen in the show. She would blast the planet alongside Yellow and Blue to maintain the image that they won't let the Crystal Gems' actions go unpunished and hide in her ship because she refuses to abandon the ideal she wants to show as she believes that would be a selfish decision to make. It may be reasonable to assume that White was just in denial about being perfect, but in the story, it's still left ambiguous about if she really was in denial or if she really was a lot more informed than the rest of the characters since she also knew what "acting like a child" and a mom meant when Blue and Yellow weren't familiar with Earth customs.
3. Part 4 of the episode (or at least, the beginning of it)
Tumblr media
Before starting, I don't have any problems in the revelation that Steven is himself and not Pink, as that makes sense. One of the issues that I do have with this scene is that it is noted in End of an Era that the reason White is as controlling as she is towards Pink is because she knew she couldn't use her powers on Pink due to her shield. Also it's revealed in Future that Pink always had a destructive scream. If both of these are true then why is White taken aback by how powerful Gem Steven is than her, and why would still try to use her powers on him if she already knows it isn't going to work? It also makes her defeat come across as too as either easily done or contradictory as part of it has to do with how she isn't able to make Steven into the person that she wants, which she again, should've known she couldn't do so anyway. More on this point, how was Pink Diamond, and by extension Steven, somehow have able to have an entire arsenal of powers at their disposal while the other three Diamonds only seem to have one or two unique abilities, and how are they somehow stronger than the others as well despite being the smallest? One method of resolving this could be to have it be that Pink Diamond really was the weakest out of the Diamonds. That way when she gives birth to Steven and he discovers how to handle his powers, training with them makes him gain more control over them. That way when Gem Steven faces White, him being stronger than her would be due to how he's trained with them, it would also make White's surprise and outrage more sensible opposed to trying something she should already know is going to fail.

What are your thoughts on doctor who? Never seen the show but all I know is time travel
well since you haven't seen the show I can't really elaborate on all my thoughts because spoilers but it's a good show it's good sometimes it's GREAT sometimes it's just no don't do that then it's good again and I'm very very excited for the new special and series
i've watched it since nuwho started back when the first episode rose aired in 2005 so there have been many times where it's just been an event the kind you had to be there the feeling of certain moments have always stuck with me so i'm always gonna watch it always looking forward for it just a massive constant in my life and its really enjoyable (definitely not sad or heartbreaking it's definitely not traumatised me at all hahahahahahahaha)
since you haven't seen it and incase you do want to watch it i'll just give you a rundown of it below (although something's aren't necessarily the full truth because spoilers)
so it's a BBC show originally from the 90s then it stopped and they decided to revive it back in 2005 and it's been going strong ever since (there's been 13 seasons and many many specials) this year in november it's the 60th anniversary since the first episode aired!!
so it's about the doctor, who is a timelord from a planet called gallifrey and he steals a tardis to go travel in time and space, he generally travels with a companion who's human and wherever he goes there's always some kind of danger
as a timelord he doesn't die he regenerates into a new version and that was the appeal really and why its gone on for so long because you could change actors and still be doctor who
(but a timelord has only 13 regeneration cycles before he actually does die die)
so when they revived the show in 2005 they made the premise that it's still the same doctor just a new regeneration (it was the 9th one) but what had happened was a great time war in which gallifrey and the timelords were all destroyed so now the doctor is the last of the timelords
so with doctor who you have the seasons and then christmas special which is generally when the regeneration happens (sometimes there's other specials too)
I would say you have to watch in order but you can categorise the show into different eras based on the actor playing the doctor and the showrunner at the time
Christopher Eccleston = S1
David Tennant = christmas special, S2, christmas special, S3, christmas special, S4, christmas, few other specials, then christmas and new years 2 part special
^ this is the rtd era (russell t davies) who was the showrunner and oversaw the story
Matt Smith = S5, christmas special, S6, christmas special, S7, ‼️, christmas special
Peter Capaldi = S8, christmas special, S9, christmas special, S10, christmas special
‼️ is the 50th anniversary special which was a crossover of david tennant and matt smith
Jodie Whittaker = s11, new year's special, s12, new year's special, s13, 2022 specials
^this is the steven moffat era as he was the showrunner
and now rtd is back as showrunner so for 2023 we're gonna have the 60th anniversary special which brings back david tennant and then in 2024 there a new series with ncuti gatwa as the doctor it's very exciting!!
^this is the chris chibnall era as he was the showrunner
OH there have also been spin offs so there's:
the sarah jane adventures 😭 its about sarah jane and her son and she's a companion from the 90s (same actress) they did a crossover during david tennant era but she sadly passed away so the show stopped
there's also torchwood which is based in cardiff and it features a team by captain jack harkness (companion from season 1) it was good then it wasn't but it might be getting a revival
and there was class it was one season I forgot what it was about lol but I remember liking it
making a list of the companions is even longer so I'm gonna stop here but if I've confused you I'm sorry pls come back and I'll answer anything I can or if you want any trivia lol that too :)

Every time I read a new interview from Waldron, my mindset goes to a single emoji: 😡. I read interviews like this, and I get the impression that he views the integrity of the story as more important than being consistent with the characters' stories.
That's arguably the biggest problem with writers like Waldron and Moffat: they're more concerned with what happens in their stories than who it's happening to.
I mean, one of my least favorite Doctor Who episodes from the Tenth Doctor era is "The Girl in the Fireplace," a Moffat-written episode during series 2. Mostly because of how out of character the Doctor and Rose are written so that Moffat can push a romance between the Doctor and Madame de Pompadour. I have similar issues with his "Silence in the Library" two-parter given the ways that story sidelines Donna so that the Doctor can spend time with River Song, Moffat's OC. (And it's never helped how Moffat's shown traces of classism in his interviews, with the way his written episodes tend to treat Rose poorly)
With Waldron, it's the same thing. Loki could have easily swapped out Tom Hiddleston's Loki with literally anyone else and nothing would change in the story (because the story had nothing to do with anything Loki had done in the main timeline). And with DSMoM, I think someone here or somewhere else was mentioning that Wanda could easily have been replaced with a Strange variant and not much would be lost.
Absolutely. In that interview they talk about Wanda going on a killing spree, the Illuminati's line-up, the multiverse and Phase 4, if Kang shows up or not.... there's absolutely nothing about characterization. And absolutely nothing about Stephen who is, you know, the title character of the movie?
Waldron's answer here is interesting I think:
"Once we found out NWH was coming before us, it meant that Dr. Strange would be familiar with the multiverse, and it also meant that Dr. Strange would've had an adventure with some teenagers"
I've wrote metas about this already but that's the only thing they get from Stephen in NWH? That's such a superficial take! It's like they only care about what happens but they never acknowledge that the characters will be affected by it, that some changes need to be made, it's got to be some sort of linear development where Stephen can't be the same guy before and after the movie. And Waldron says "yeah after NWH he's more patient with teenagers", dude really? That's all?!
And they did the same thing with Wanda, they took the post-credit scene, completely ignored everything that came before, her character is not changed by it, she's just evil now. They're so focused on the story that they don't give a damn about the characters because it's not about them anymore.
I will never understand why this guy keeps getting so much praise when he's so disgustingly superficial.

can you do the ask about Mifuyu?
Why I like them
Jeez, where do I start? The short answer is posting a picture of a character once a day every day for over 100 days with no end in sight does things to a mf. The long answer is that I really resonate with her, I've done things in the past that I'm not proud of now, I've had to deal with controlling parents, etc. tbh were I in her position I'm not sure I wouldn't have just done exactly as she did. Also her personality is just very charming to me, she's very charismatic and can sometimes be pretty flirty, and that's always just fun to see. Plus I really love both her casual outfit and magical girl outfit. ALSO: I really like how she rarely uses the casual form in her Japanese speech, lots of ですs or ますs!
Why I don’t
I think this is a pretty common opinion, but I'm not a fan of the trope where characters martyr themselves to make up for their past misdoings. Mifuyu is no exception. Besides that, I feel like she's kind of become the butt of a lot of jokes in Arc 2 up until recently. Still anxious to see where they're going with her in the next chapter since she's been captured by the Neo-Magius. Lastly, I'm not a huge fan of her "Magical Girls get weaker as they age" thing, because we don't really see that in anyone but Mifuyu. I feel like they could have just stated Mifuyu was never really exceptionally strong to begin with.
Favorite episode (scene if movie)
For me it's a tie between the scene where she shows up to Mikazuki Villa unannounced or when she slaps Yuna for being so cruel to Ryo. The tension is palpable in that first scene and the first time I watched it I was really invested, I think that was when she really grew on me for the first time. The second one just shows me that Mifuyu has so much guts that she's willing to go up to the murderous leader of the enemy faction that just killed her friend and teach her a lesson in manners. Say what you will about her, but she's got guts.
Favorite season/movie
I wasn't a huge fan of the anime past the first season, but I think season 2 really gave Mifuyu fans so much. We got the big Yachiyo vs Mifuyu fight of course, and Mifuyu day drinking, what more could you want?
Favorite line
I really like her morning log in quote!
"Is everything okay? You probably shouldn’t stop by here so often... But oh well, we can at least have some tea together."
She just seems very inviting and nice to have around ^.^
Favorite outfit
Definitely her casual outfit! I love the little black rose thing she wears in her hair, it reminds me of Konan from Naruto (another one of my faves). Plus, I really like the cut of her top and the short shorts, it's all very stylish. If I saw someone wearing this in real life I'd definitely compliment them on their outfit.
Tumblr media
OTP
YachiMifu/YachiMifuTsuru!
Brotp
I really like seeing her interact with the other, younger members of the Villa. Besides that, any time both her and Kanagi are on screen together is just a delight.
Head Canon
After setting things right with Yachiyo and spending more time around everyone in the Villa, Mifuyu becomes the one that Felicia goes to to ask for things she knows Yachiyo will say no too, lol. Like, in the checkout line at a grocery store, Felicia sees a pack of Pokemon cards or something and just looks at Mifuyu with puppy dog eyes and she gives in.
Unpopular opinion
This is completely unsurprising coming from me but I totally think her actions in the Magius were understandable. She was scared, and was desperately searching for a way out. The only thing I think I would do differently is let my friends know where I am lol
A wish
Need I even say it? An alt! For something less in the realm of possibility, I would give anything for YachiMifu to be like, canon canon instead of just being like, a very compelling interpretation of their relationship.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen
Arc 2 Chapter 10 please don't kill Mifuyu please don't kill Mifuyu please don't kill Mifuyu
5 words to best describe them
Charismatic, pleasant, gentle, driven, ends justify the means (not a word, I know, deal with it)
My nickname for them
Mifu!

I decided to watch season 3 of the witcher (the first 5 episodes that are out at this point at least) and by the time I finished it, I kind of forgot why I had been so hesitant to start watching it in the first place, aside of course the whole Henry Cavill leaving thing (and to clarify, I'm not watching season 4 and onwards because he's absolutely correct in why he's leaving, the show won't be the same without him, and the whole Joey having to write a 7000 word essay to get proper representation vis a vis Jaskier thing etc etc) because honestly I thoroughly enjoyed s3 so far! I did think the 5th episode was a bit.. or a lot 'meh'? But still. Then I remembered ofc that I'd been so hesitant because season 2 was ASS.
Anyway, I never watched Blood Origin, and after looking around the witcher subreddit and seeing that everybody apparently fucking hates s3, which I've concluded I liked so far, and also hates Blood Origin, I figured hey it might just be another one of those things where I would feel differently than the people who hate it.
So I just finished watching it and oh. my god. It SUCKS. ASS.
It's so fucking bad!!
Now I won't do what a lot of people have and go EUGH WOKE LEFTISTS RUINED IT or IT'S FULL OF BAD ACTING because what the hell are you talking about. First of all the only truly good thing about Blood Origin imo was the diversity. The most interesting story lines imo was Meldof and what happened with Gwen, I would have loved to see more of her story and her getting revenge, and Meldof was so endearing! I really loved how Francesca Mills played her. The humor came across as humorous, the grief was sad, and the weird goofy offball energy was delightful. I also think she did the fight scenes really well!
Also Eredin and Brían's story would have been so much more interesting to explore than what we got. Like hello? High ranking fancy schmancy general falls in love with a low born merchant? Even goes so far as to betray his ally for the sake of raising his lover in society, so they can be together without sneaking around? That's a classic premise for a reason! The reason being it's compelling and romantic! I love that shit.
I also don't feel like we needed seven characters. I loved Scìan and wish we had seen more of her life both before and after losing her clan. I didn't really feel we had time at all to get to know Brother Death and Zacaré at all, and even though I especially liked the actress who played Zacaré, neither of those two characters really made much impact on their own. I feel like they could have been condensed into other characters to make fewer stronger characters instead of many weaker ones. I also don't think we really learned very much about Syndril as a person, so if he had been combined with Zacaré, I think that would have worked better.
BUT I think every single actor in that show acted their heart out. They put their whole entire pussies into it!! And they did a great job with the material they had to work with. Unfortunately the material was bad (like jesus christ. by the power of friendship and also singing to calm the hulk like 3 times can we do literally anything else. Also everyone fucking singing the rose song like we GET IT but it felt so inauthentic and staged.) Also Fjall and Éile you knew each other for like 3 days calm down. There was no reason for them to fall in love aside from man meets woman and they are in physical proximity. I understand logically that they traveled together longer but it was SO rushed on screen. It was bad.
Anyway the costume design was gorgeous, and the makeup was as well. The fight scenes were nicely choreographed and shot. The effects were pretty good overall, I think!
But the pacing was bad, the script was bad, the dialogue was bad, it was bad. Beautiful but bad.

I heard that song earlier today, and a thought occurred to me that I was leaving you a little empty handed.
So, earlier today, I gave you "Me Feels".
Now, I give you a different Feels - the opener to a long delayed fictional funeral.
See, I've had one of my fictional characters, Roxxanne Croft, for over a decade. She has been my muse, my inspiration, my Voodoo Doll and outlet. She has been my companion and a largely willing target for anything terrible I come up with (or eraser if it's something I don't want happening, e.g. unasked for sexual contact, with said contactor heading to meet either a Warden or a pit of soul erasing Fire shortly thereafter... Yeah, I have a mild obsession with that I don't fully understand, but I understand my wish to have her suddenly mutate wings of any kind only to have to tear them off herself to great pain singer rather than later even less).
She also lost her parents in her arms one after another, then got real busy with work. So she put off anything to do with processing until she has a serious break that didn't require focus... which never came.
In comes a Familiar of Zero fanfic idea. She ends up replacing Saito, and a few episodes in, we have the Familiar Festival, where mages and familiars show a brand new skill and try to wow people.
The idea here is that, with the Void arrangement of Canon, Roxxanne would decide they're the familiars of each other (since Roxxanne has magic) and they'd cooperatively make a show - one which doesn't require any magic, since Roxxanne has tech skills, music skills as a hobby (which was previously helpful in maintaining morale while watching over a bunch of teenagers), and Louise has plenty of local magical knowledge but no skill with it.
A song or two no one has heard for Louise (who also has altered Gandalfr runes, part of the reasoning for them both being familiars) such as Thunderstruck, as a statement that she is more than anyone expects, and then Louise makes a comment that, as nice as it is that she's getting some credit, they're not really showing off the skills of the non local familiar. Or her story.
And that, since Roxxanne's pride is noticeably lopsided, leads to the first two songs I mentioned.
One, an ode to her mother Lara, the other a reference to her father as much as to her self-given job of human maintenance in a warzone. And they're both cooperative, which also helps take the focus off the person Roxxanne isn't proud of (herself), while making a grand statement.
Music to help her friend, quietly grieving her parents along the way, and the songs themselves have their own impacts, their own stories.
If you put those stories, those songs, in order, it's simple.
Thunderstruck: I have good taste in music, and I'm more than you expect.
Red like Roses, part one and two combined: beautiful cinematic fight scenes, while screaming at the world with your grief - even as your mother does the same. A grim image for the beginnings of RWBY, but then there's lots of subtle darkness in both RWBY and Roxxanne, covered with sunshine.
Black Parade: "When I was a young boy, my father asked, 'will you be the savior of the Broken? The Beaten and the Damned?' And now, I'm older, scarred by the world, and we, all of us, will carry on."

Season 1 Episode 1 "The Engagement"
I've watched The Golden Girls for as long as I can remember. But often when I watch it now, I skip the first season. It just feels different than the rest of the series to me. But for this .... thing ..... I'm doing .... whatever it is .... I'll start with the very first episode.
The housekeeper. Cook. Whatever he was. I never understood why he was only on the first episode. I liked him.
One of the most consistent things on this show are the amazing wardrobe choices, perfectly matching each character.
Dorothy is talking about being older. I remember watching this show as a kid and thinking that this was old age. Now the characters in the first few seasons are younger than my mother is now, and it's changed the way I see the ladies. They're nowhere near what I would now consider old. Except maybe Sophia.
Blanche is considering marrying a man, potentially splitting up the ladies on our very first episode. Before we have even gotten the chance to care about their friendship. Do sitcoms still start off like this these days? I don't think I've watched many in the last several years.
Ok, so in this episode Blanche's bedroom is on the other side of the house, near the lanai. Also, I've never heard the word lanai outside of this show. Is it a regional thing?
Sophia's character looks so different in the first season. She acts different too. I prefer the later seasons for her character myself.
Harry. I feel like they used a handful of male characters names on this show. I wonder if they just used popular old guy names, or they had people they knew they were giving a little shout out to.
The cook is back. Drinking on the lanai with Dorothy and Rose. He lived there, I guess. He's in his robe, as are they. Is this normal for people with cooks? I wouldn't know. I've never met a live in cook. Or anyone who could afford one.
Blanche was so pretty. In all honesty, I always wanted to be a Blanche, but I was far more a mix of Sophia and Dorothy.
And Blanche has said yes to Harry. And the wedding is next week. What will happen to the girls? Blanche hadn't thought of that but says they can stay until they can find somewhere else to live. And she walks off to her bedroom that is still on the wrong side of the house.
Ah, the first time we hear about Dorothy getting pregnant out of wedlock, the details of which will change several times over the course of the show. But the hatred of Stan remains. (Dorothy's, not mine. I always liked the Stan character.)
The girls are wearing full faces of makeup while dressed for bed. Sophia's line about peeing at seven every morning but unfortunately, she wakes up at eight is my favorite line in the episode.
Blanche's bedroom. That bed. It's horrible. Blanche deserved better.
Public bathrooms are also hard for me. Luckily, my grandma taught me how to get out without touching anything.
Dorothy putting Rose in a chokehold before throwing her in the closet sets up their relationship for the rest of the show pretty nicely.
Harry is late, and the priest is in a rush. Harry has been arrested. Poor Blanche. She's stunned. Stunned is the only way to describe how stunned she is.
Just once I'd like to sit out on a lanai with a pitcher of water, pouring myself a glass. It looks nice.
Sophia is laying out in the sun with sunglasses on and her purse in her hands. I love how she always carried her purse around, even during the night.
First episode Blanche thought this was her one chance at happiness with a man. Future Blanche had many happy moments with many, many, many men.
The girls are going to stick together after all. What a happy ending.
I feel like they had a lot of the characters down in the first season, even in the first episode. But I think the episodes after they have it all down are far better. I do wish we could have seen more of the cook though. I looked it up. He was originally supposed to be the fourth member of the group, and Sophia was supposed to be a recurring character. I do think they made the correct choice in keeping Sophia as a main character, mostly because she's my favorite. But I digress.
Well, the episode is over. On to episode 2.

Logan needs to be put in the bin but the 'kick anything he loves' thing is driving me insane from a psych perspective. Where's that coming from? Did he feel so abandoned by in childhood/youth that he constantly feels the need to test that people love him unconditionally/wont leave him? Is this Rose's influence again? If its based around the whole Rose thing, is that why he does it so often to Kendall particularly? We need a Rose Roy AMA immediately.
That line from Caroline felt like it kicked me in the chest, anon!! It was awful, but so poignant and really cut to the heart of Logan's abuse. To have that scene so promptly followed by the one with Logan and Kendall was gutting generally, but to have Kendall try and take the out Logan was forcing him to only to have the leash firmly pulled tight again - - it's no wonder 3.08 ended the way it did. Logan wants Kendall to feel punished and unwanted, but he doesn't ever want him gone. I said it in tags I think on the day of the ep, but it's like he wants to lock him out of the house but make sure he stays in the backyard, pawing at the door.
It's awful, but man, if Brian and Jeremy didn't sell it. This show handles abuse so deftly most of the time, but that scene I think is one of the season's if not the series' best.
(This got a little long, so I'm putting it under a cut, haha).
But yes! I'm inclined to think a lot of Logan's feelings around fatherhood and relationships have been shaped by his upbringing. We simultaneously know so much and nothing at all, so it's sort of hard to know the exacts of any of it, but we know Ewan, Logan and Rose were sent to live with their Uncle and his wife in Canada when they were very young because their widowed mother couldn't look after them, and that they never saw her again. We know that Noah ran the print shop that Logan took over and turned into Waystar Royco, and we know that Noah was extremely physically abusive given the scars on Logan's back. We know Rose died, and that Logan blames himself (but, interestingly, that Ewan doesn't blame him), and that he married Connor's mother and had Connor in his mid-twenties, before having the golden trio in his forties, and getting at least full custody of the latter.
We also know, of course, that Connor's mother had some sort of mental illness. I talked about it a bit in this post before the last episode aired, but I'm actually more inclined than ever to think that Logan took full custody of Connor when his mother was institutionalised. Knowing now that he did of the golden trio after his and Caroline's divorce really strengthens that for me (it totally features into that sense of how possessive Logan is of all four of them), and in a lot of ways Caroline inviting Connor to her wedding feels like it bolsters that a bit too. If he'd been living with Caroline and his dad from the time he was fourteen or fifteen, or gosh, maybe even younger, Caroline would likely have enough connection to him to invite him, even if it was just for show.
I'm doubly fascinated by the podcast mention in 3.08 too – a show pitched at looking at the tragedies surrounding the Roy's, and as Comfrey said, it's set to cover Connor's mother, Logan and Rose, the tabloid suicides that Frank mentioned in 3.01 (which I'm also fascinated about) and Andrew, the cater waiter Kendall accidentally killed.
That doesn't tell us a lot, but I think it does tell us whatever happened to Connor's mother and Rose is tragic, and I've made the argument before that I think Rose might have had mental health issues and commit suicide (which I think could've been why Logan ended up with perhaps a similar woman in Connor's mother and married and had a son so young), but again, this is all just speculation.
But yes! More to the point of your ask, haha, I do think Logan's behaviour is tied to his own abuse. Jesse Armstrong talks a lot about how this show is primarily about generational trauma, and a key part of that is the spectre of Logan's unmanaged pain. He's perpetrator, survivor and victim, all rolled into one, and I think a lot of that is manifested in the analogy Caroline used. Logan obviously kept going back to his uncle in a way Ewan didn't – Ewan served in Vietnam after all, while Logan stayed at the print shop – and I wonder how much that compounded this attitude that abuse is a form of love.
How we're trained to receive love is, after all, at the heart of the series too. While it happens throughout, I don't think it's ever been clearer than in Kendall's fixation with Sophie Iwobi in 3.03. She was insulting him in increasingly humiliating ways, and he was convinced she loved him, because that's what Kendall's been brought up to believe love looks like.
For Logan, his first understanding of what family was was in abandonment – a dead father, a mother who sent them away and never saw them again, an older brother who went to war, a dead sister – which makes me inclined to believe that Noah was probably the first person Logan had in his life who stayed. To have that first formative experience of stability intrinsically tied to violence and abuse is a monstrous sort of love that I think Logan probably internalised to survive. How that manifested then with testing everyone he loves to see if they have the strength and the 'love' themselves to stay too – the strength and love Logan had to have for Noah, later immortalised and objectified in the family business – is unspeakably traumatic.
Add to that Logan's ego and temper and neediness and the horrible, deep, broken love he has for his children, and you just get a world on fire.
In that sense, I do think Rose always factors in, but I think she particularly factors in as a part of why Logan's so possessive of them, and is so afraid of losing them. I talked about it a lot in this post (which you might have read already given your ask, haha), but I think Logan's reaction in 2.04 to Kendall being missing after the gunshot and the glass being put up at the end of the ep was so loaded and not a side of him we often see at all. He knew how vulnerable Kendall was, and Logan's coddling of him in those moments of s2 - - I don't know. I do tend to tie them to Logan having experienced something similar with Rose, and having the show mention her in 3.08 as a part of the Roy family tragedies definitely bolsters that argument for me too.
It's such a rich topic to discuss! Logan's awful, but man, I love him as a character. He's so, so compelling.
