HI ROWAN I'm glad you asked! :D It's gonna be a big ass rant, so it's under the cut. I'm very excited about this AU, it tackles some things I love and have first-hand experience of, so yeah, I'll be chatty about it ahahahah.

I've posted a chapter at random on AO3 and you can find some snippets in the whale au tag!

So, it's "Zoologist Aisling who thinks whales are the best thing after sliced bread saves Cullen, who happens to have survived a shipwreck caused by a whale". Shenanigans happen.

It was an idea of @shivunin (thank you again) and I'm currently trying to give it a little outline not to go totally at random. I am thinking about characters background, it's a non-magical AU and so stuff needs to be adapted. The title of the WIP is old, I realised after that... You know, it's a Moby Dick INSPIRED thing. The first idea was having Aisling as Melville and Cullen as Ishmael teaming up to write Moby Dick. Cullen has the sailing parts, Aisling filling in with conspiracy theories about whalers and spite over naturalists. And both of them inserting a gay relationship because I'm still a big part of the Bi!Cullen agenda, and that book is terribly gay.

I did realise later on that there's a limit to the horrors I'm willing to put characters through and write, and cannibalism is really NOT one. I also moved it to another period and to the 1900s because I already did research for another original project and I'm more familiar with it.

The title of the file will change when I'll have a better one for this AU.

For now I do have a background for Aisling, what she's in Nantucket to do, and I'm so happy to say @melisusthewee jumped on the bandwagon aboard with Quinn and Horatio, but I'm letting her introduce you to them in this. I'll just say that Aisling refers to Quinn as "Mr Arch-Nemesis".

She's in Nantucket for a research over sperm whales behaviour, restore her family's name (dad was a scholar too, but alas, he was caught being a member of the Fenian society and giving money to the Irish revolutionaries... She's the Royal Society's favourite person, yes) and hopefully put a brake on whale hunting (the 1900s saw the peak of killed whales, you can bet miss "I'd adopt a dragon if Bull didn't constantly prevent me to try and befriend one" won't be ok with it). Dorian and Josephine -whom I couldn't fathom being there with her, seriously I can't picture Dorian on a ship if not in first class, unless he was beaten unconscious before boarding and dragged on. Josie finances ships, sure... but being on board of one and working? A whole different thing. So, they're Aisling friends, but they stayed in London to get her fundings.

Cullen needs to find reason to get to the sea again, he was a harpooner and worked on ships all his life... After being the sole survivor, he needs to find his centre back and get on with it. The crazy whale fangirl may or may not help him on this.

And there was only one bed, of course. (have I already said that Moby Dick is VERY gay?) (I had a blast reading it, thank you so much @salsedinepicta for making me curious about it! <3 Also if you want to throw your characters in this GO ON.)

I thiiiink I may change names and design and also do something fully original. I'm particularly enthusiastic about it because it allows me to tackle stuff I experienced in my life (I did some sailing! Very little and purely recreational, but still) and to re-use some research I already did for another original project which I love dearly, but it's definitely more than I can chew on my own. If I don't chicken out because the place is linked to some trauma, I maaaaay add a part in the seaside town I spent a lot of time growing up.

But again, let's see how it goes, researching on Italy isn't the easiest thing ever if you're not aiming at Rome or the Renaissance, and we're talking about a pretty regional side of Italy. I have good hopes because the people are very very very much into their own history and claiming it back, so I may find some good infos without spitting too much blood.

Oh boy hahaha. So I'm a multicrafter kind of person. I embroider (cross stitch), sew, knit, crochet, and plenty other stuff. When I don't draw, I usually do one of those.

I've always made art since I was a little kid, I made comics, tried to join zines when I was a teen (that didn't work out but I still have the pages somewhere lol), and then my mom asked me to stop art to go into science. So I stopped drawing for 6 years, then fell into Undertale and started drawing fanart like there was no tomorrow and joined animation school for 3 years. (If you're curious you can watch my thesis film here, but be warned, all of it was done by myself so that's why the animation sucks ass lmao. I gave all my focus to rigging to land a job in this area of the industry. Which I did, thanks to this film!!!) That school burnt the living hell out of me and gave me hand injuries, so I can't draw trad anymore or even write more than two minutes without having to stop because of pain. So when I graduated in 2020, I stopped drawing almost completely. Then Käärijä happened and I'm back at it I guess??

Realistic art is my fav thing in the world, transcribing reality in 2D dimension is really my first passion in art. My dad introduced me to charcoal on paper at an early age, and I just never grew out of it I guess haha. People are my fav thing to draw. I find it so relaxing, I'm not a creative person whatsoever as in I don't like to INVENT stuff, so just transcribing shadows without thinking about it gives me peace of mind.

It's WIP Wednesday, my dudes!

Sooo, I haven't had as much time to write as I usually would, thanks to condensed courses kicking in. Thankfully it's only for the next two months. And most of the writing I have been doing isn't directly part of AR, but a future may-not-ever-be-published-cause-it's-just-that-self-indulgent sappy epilogue lmao. That one started out as getting a scene out of my head, and then it just... exploded. I'll give y'all some of the main fic I've chipped away at, and as a treat, a little bit of epilogue that won't spoil TOO much of what's going down under the cut.

Arenthia Red:

“When this is all over with, I’m moving somewhere flat.” Marasa shivered so hard she felt she’d fall over. Maybe there was a shout out there that would teach her to fly. Wouldn’t that be nice? “I don’t even want to see an anthill after this.” “And yet you’re the one that dragged us up here.” Nebarra grumbled. “And once again, left me to haul all the firewood.” “Oh, you’ll live.” “The day’s not over yet.” “Guys, can we please go inside now? I’m not even sure I still have toes.” No, if any of them was looking worse for wear, it was Lucien. The fact that he was still upright and not lying frozen halfway back down the path was a shock to them all. She wasn’t sure he’d ever acclimate to the cold or altitude. “Alright, alright, we’re going.” Marasa bumped his shoulder playfully before dragging the massive door open, the frozen metal scraping against the stone making their ears ring. Their footfalls echoed across the hall, just as they had the first time they’d stepped through. In fact, it looked like nothing had changed at all. Maybe it had always been like this, even at its founding. “Hello? Arngeir, you home?” she called out, wincing at how loud her little joke was compared to the relative silence of the monastary. “I’m sure he just ran down to the market for some bread and eggs.” Nebarra deadpanned next to her. “Shut it, skeever brain.” she rapped her knuckles against his breastplate. “Rich coming from the goblin wearing an elf suit.” “Are you children done?” Xelzaz shook his head. The gods must have a strange sense of humor when it came to picking their champions.

Self-Indulgence ahead! (set four-ish years post-game in 4E205)

“What’s the name of the ship again?”

“The… Sword of Alinor, I think.”

“Huh, weird name for a passenger ship.” she mumbled, letting her feet dangle over the side of the dock, toes just barely skimming the water’s surface. Must have been repurposed after the war. Marasa’s fingers twisted in the hem of her tunic. She tried to focus on the sound of the waves crashing against the docks, trying to keep the urge to run at bay. She zeroed in on it. This had to be a mistake, just what was she thinking?

“Shouldn’t I be the nervous one?”

“You’ve been pacing for the last hour.”

“I get sea sick.” he said, simply.

“No you don’t.” Nebarra grumbled to himself before taking a seat next to her, putting an arm around her shoulders. She pressed herself into him, sighing. It was uncommon for either of them to show much affection in public – rarely did they let their guard down enough to do so. The change of pace was… nice. Maybe it would last. “Besides, they’ll like you. Probably.”

“Thanks for the vote of confidence.” he said flatly, feeling her laugh quietly against him. “And you’re sure they won’t mind me…”

“Being an Altmer?” she asked, shaking her head. “Not at all. I mean, my first partner was Khajiit, after all.”

“Wait, really?” Had she not told him that? Must have slipped her mind. “He wasn’t one of those… really big ones, right? ‘Cause I’ll fight your ex if I have to, but –”

Marasa snorted. “No, and you don’t have to fight anyone. Last I heard, Ja’zan’s married and been living in Riverhold for decades now.”

“But seriously, what’s got you nervous?” That was his job, anyway. This was more terrifying than any dragon they’d faced together – including Alduin – as far as he was concerned.

“ Besides the obvious? It’s just… Last time, I didn’t even tell them I left, or why. Just… hopped on the first ship out at dawn, didn’t matter where it was going. And now,” she chewed her lip. “It’s been almost fifteen years. What if they don’t want to see –”

“Then they wouldn’t have sounded so excited in their letter.” He rested his hand on the back of her neck, thumb rubbing soothing circles against it. Marasa leaned into the touch. “Besides, at least you’re better at writing home than I am.”

“I’m glad you did, though.”

Only to get you to quit harassing me about it.” he teased.

what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have? okay so i started the books just before the show came out. and i was just so absolutely in love with all of it. but originally i had added moiraine and lan, with mat on the side just to, you know, add someone extra. but then by the time i got towards the end of the great hunt i just really wanted to add him. and he was so annoying n there, too lol but then there was the illuminator party ( where he was really annoying lol ) and then THEN my favorite part with the portal stones and just !!

is there anything you don’t like to write? i mean i pretty much like writing anything tbh but i don't think i'd like writing pwp lol or like -- uhm idk like sometimes there are interesting plots that i like to write but then it doesn't fit a character so then things get weird and you don't want to write it anymore lol

is there anything you really enjoy writing? i like writing anything! i enjoy writing just to write tbh

how do you come up with headcanons? usually they mostly happen during writing with someone else or like small throwaway lines from the books that just get like expanded on

do you write in silence or do you play music? music , movies, i don't really like complete silence

do you plan your replies or wing them? some replies get planned. some don't.

do you enjoy shipping? i do really like shipping actually! it's always fun! but i like them to be very fleshed out and stuff, like growing into something over time. i'll do preestablished ships but i prefer them to be plotted out beforehand.

Happy Valentines Day!

I'm using today to talk about my original series because I can! Also I've been tagging the characters a bit. The series is called Flowers and Forests, and the books follow the naming convention of "[a flower chosen with flower language] and [an alliterative tree]." It follows a Jewish German family during the World Wars so you can probably guess the content warnings but I'll go over them book by book. Details under the cut, as always.

Instead of the order I plan to write them or the order they were concieved, I'm going to go chronological, just to keep everything straight.

Poppies and Poplars

The only warning I can think of is war. Also any similarities to Im Western Nicht Neues are purely an accident I swear

Poppies and Poplars follows 23 year old newly wed Karl Bohmer, who is called on to fight in the trenches of the Great War right after he returns home from his mandatory military service. His regiment is optimistic that the war will be short, that the governments of Europe will get their heads of their asses. But then Germany invades France. Snow falls. The new year passes. Karl's son is born. His friends, those from home and those from the regiment, die. And they realize, the war will not end. The theme of the story is loss of innocence.

For the characters, I'm starting with Karl. He's optimistic and cheerful, almost naïve, and constantly cracks jokes, especially as things get darker and darker. He's quick to love and quicker to care, which causes trouble. Other main characters are Helmut Loritz, an stubborn and serious man, and Benedikt Rothbauer, his laid-back friend. They're in their early 40s, and went to university together. Last is Richard Holzknecht, a 20 year old Prussian man from a wealthy merchant family. He starts out as tempermental and full of himself, but has an arc about chilling out- as much as you can in the trenches.

Irises and Ivy

Xenophobia, queerphobia, and British imperialism will be discussed

Irises and Ivy is about Karl's nephew, 20 year old Welshman Friedrich Pugh. He mans the telegraph on an English Battle Ship in the second half of the war. It isn't very developed plot wise, but the characters are, and theme is going to be about guilt.

Fritz went to Naval school because he was bullied a lot as a kid. Most of it was for being effeminate, but there was also some xenophobia there, and he thought that if he could serve their country, his classmates would stop. Other than that, he's a very intelligent man, knowing many languages, and malicious compliance is his bread and butter. He often gets in trouble with higher ranking officers for this and speaking Cymreag. He works primarily with Christian Beirne, an Irishman who is incredibly anxious and draws to distract himself. They're both friends with Peter Allen, a doctor working in the ship's infirmary. He's a witty and sarcastic fella, and honestly the best way I can describe him is if Hobie Brown were a white Scottish adult. Also he's Fritz's love interest.

Wisteria and Willows

Again, this is under developed, and xenophobia is going to be even more a theme here.

Lisa Boemer was ten when the war started, 13 when her story starts. Her father is a German immigrant, and her mother is from the Dominican Republic. There was a lot of anti-German sentiment during World War I, and the original idea for this one came from my Gigi telling me about how her parents and grandparents wouldn't let her experience their culture because of their experiences during the war.

Lisa is a natural born leader. She's very creative and always has an idea. She will defend almost anyone to the death and is great at making it so that doesn't need to happen. Her main friend group includes Thomas Abrahms, who is transfemme genderfluid, an oldest child, and the straight man of the group, to use a comedy term. Polina Cahana and Vida Pasternack are both very random, Polina in a spaced out way, and Vida in an extremely hyperactive way. I'm still working on them both, to be honest.

Lisa and Friedrich's parents are both Karl's older siblings. The next few stories are about Karl's wife's niece, Ada Zingel.

Myrtle and Mapels

This starts after Kristallnacht, and going forward Nazism, fascism, antisemitism, and racism will be present.

Ada's oldest brothers, David and Model, are arrested, and the rest of her family is beaten. Three months later, they are released, and their family is determined to leave Germany for their safety. Josef, 14, and Ada, 11, are sure that if they wait things out it will get better, and because tickets are so expensive, it's agreed the two of them will stay with family friends for a while, but soon it isn't safe there, and they have to stay on the move. They soon meet Sinti grandmother and granddaughter pair Deana and Tsura, 12, and decide to stick with them.

Ada is a trans girl and comes out to Josef during this book. She's extremely curious and loves talking to people, but becomes a lot more cautious as the story goes on. She is very independent, and wants to be seen as capable of caring for herself more than anything. Josef is stubborn and idealistic, thinking the best of everyone. Tsura is a quiet observer, quick to trust, and quicker to assist. Deana is extremely worried, as she should be having to live in the woods with a bunch of kids. She's like the quintessential grandmother, and honestly that's the only way I can describe her.

Erikas and Evergreens

Deana and Josef die towards the end of M&M. Between the books, Tsura and Ada are joined by a Sorbian boy, Jurij, who ran away from his abusive father. During Erikas and Evergreens, which starts in 1940, they meet cousins Eduard Jundt and Bernhard Loritz, who are about to turn 18, while they hike across Germany to see Bernhard's friend, Margreta Rothbauer. Bernhard and Margreta are the grandchildren of Helmut and Benedikt, but that isn't important. They're also travelling with Greta's cousin, Christel Klein. From Greta's, the group plans to go to Switzerland to wait out Nazis.

Jurij is very temperamental, careless, and slow to trust, and his arc is about healing from his trauma. Also he's trans. Eduard acts wears his emotions on his sleave and has a pattern of taking drastic action, catastrophizing the bad and idolizing the good, basically. Bernhard is easily worried and usually closed off, but he hides this by being a happy-go-lucky nerd. He is very caring, and sort of takes in the younger kids. Greta is incredibly sarcastic and intelligent, but she usually hides it behind an oblivious demeanor. Christel has ADHD, POTS, and "pastel autism" as Summer would call it, very cheery and friendly. She latches onto the grumpier characters especially, and hyperfixates on medicine and botany.

Other stories that don't have enough to fit the rest of the formatting are Orchids and Oaks, which follows these kids through the rest of the war, and Cornflowers and Cedars, which has Ada, Eduard, Christel, and Tsura reuniting with their families after the war.

Three ships: I've thought about vashwood every day for months now, with no signs of stopping. If anything it's getting worse ahgdjksajgk as for two others.. probably serennedy, which Does still have a grip on me, and cynonari, which is still such a source of joy and comfort even a whole year-and-change later. I also do have to mention chiscara though! That's one I'll never be able to shake off

First ever ship: So. It's technically the female protag of Pokémon BW and N, which I don't even know the ship name of in all honesty. But I was never super invested in it; I went and read a few fics and saw art on like. DeviantArt probably. And that was it. The first ship I ever got invested in was girokuru from Sgt. Frog, way back in 2012! Right around the time I made this blog. Though most of my engagement with it was, I think, through DeviantArt

Last song: It's this, from my Trigun Bloodborne AU playlist hehe

Last movie: Totally Killer, and it was really fun! I'd recommend it to any slasher/comedy fans

Currently reading: I'm still behind on Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen, I really should catch up soon. I also bought This Is How You Lose the Time War over the summer and haven't even picked it up since bringing it home :') I've just been caught up in work and fic stuff and video games

Currently watching: It's currently a few episodes of Blood Blockade Battlefront every weekend with the Trigun Server Gang (if any of you are reading this I'm waving at you 👋) since we finished Trigun 98 and Badlands Rumble together over the past month. And my brother and I finished Shadowhunters last Friday, so this Friday we'll be watching the first half of Fall of the House of Usher! I've also gotta start House of the Dragon soon for a friend. And Bungou Stray Dogs for another friend. You both know who you are (and I'm waving at you too 👋)

Currently consuming: Nothing, and I really should be because it's past midday and I haven't even eaten breakfast. And I've gotta leave the house in just under an hour oops

Currently craving: Soup with freshly baked and buttered bread rolls. Either chicken soup or leek and potato. My coworker had some chicken soup at work yesterday and it smelled so so good..

three ships Cory/Topanga - Boy Meets World. I was Very Invested (tm) in their happiness watching this show as a kid before I even knew what shipping was. Stanley/Mimi - Jericho. I love this show and it got done dirty. But a very fun enemies to lovers thing. (Also their ship name is basically "Steamy" which makes me laugh every time). God I love this show. My brain is cheese and I literally can't think of another ship right now. Can I pick my own ships? Amarilis/Ridley from my fic universe Orithia. They lead their own lives, have their own paths but their relationship is just good, strong, healthy and I love writing their dynamic.

As much as I love the divorced flower husbands au on the empires smp, I have come up with like 3 different dynamics for the elven boy and Codfather.

1) Thief AU

It's not a secret in the swamp lands that they are not the wealthiest district, so no one is surprised the king sometimes steals things to help out the citizens and to give gifts to other kingdoms to keep peace. Everywhere else there's tales of a thief, who leaves a fish head as his mark on the places he had robbed. It's never a huge amount, it can be anything from a few pieces of bread to a singular diamond. People had tried to claim they are the thief or caught him, but THE thief always remained.

Scott is an elven king farming in the moutains and one day he stops a thief stealing his goat. The thief is dressed as the fish thief, but Scott will not believe a fairy tale. He captures the thief, learns his name (Jimmy) and the thief promises to serve Scott if he lets him have some of the animals. Scott looks at the obviously amateur thief and decides to accept the deal, because he is a big softie.

They become friends and learn about the different cultures. None of them reveal they are a king. Scott remains to be "an elven farmer" and Jimmy the "clumsy thief". But the outside world notices that THE thief "dissapeared" without a trace and it becames a huge gossip amongs citizens of all kingdoms. And at first Scott brushes it off, because surely, that must be a coincidence, but the more he thinks about it, the more it makes sense. He managed to capture the most famous thief - Codfather (and his heart). The question is, what will he do now?

2) Princess and the frog AU + selkies

In the original fairytale the princess is disgusted/reluctant to like the frog but circumstances made her tolerate him and eventually accept her frog husband, who gets freed from his curse.

In this AU Jimmy would be a reverse Merman. He can look like a regular fish, but can change into a humanoid creature. Decides to follow the pretty elven king or maybe accidentally ends up in a bucket and that's how they meet. And they slowly become friends and eventualy Jimmy slowly gains more and more of his human form, until he evolves into the slime boi!

For the selkies bit, they are basically water spirits, that have to carry an animal skin (seal) and they can become human for a few hours. If their skin is taken and hidden, the selkie stays human until they find the skin. Maybe something like that but with cod scales?

3) Himbofication (?) AU

I rewatched half of it commentary and was reminded of the "he acts like a golden retriever" thing. So just take the "lost puppy" headcannon and up it even more. No one in this AU is immune to Jimmy's dog eyes. At first people try to act casual, but this swamp king takes every threath as a gift, offer of friendship etc. so it's impossible to declare a war. You are either a friend or bestfriend, no inbetween. And eventually everyone accept that there's just a friendly neighbourhood himbo that is completely neutral in any conflicts.

Just imagine the iconic moments such as Lizzie giving Jimmy horse heads as a warning and him being like "She gave me a gift! Hiw nice :D" or someone pranking him and saying it's a gift and Jimmy beinh like "ofc it is :D" and my personal favourite - Jimmy dying on purpose so they could get heads and everyone asking him if he's okay and needs help :)

I love how the fandom collectively decided that any relationship on the empires smp is enemies to lovers.

Fighting? You mean flirting! Threaths? You mean they are interested in each other! Wars? Just gaining attention! Love that for them.

Lovers of cursed AU's and normal AU's alike, I bring you my arrangedmarriage!AU that I fell in love with. Strap in, it's a bit long :D

So basically in the AU Jimmy is Lizzie's brother and they are from the Ocean empire. When they were younger, their fathet had arranged marriages for the both of them, but they weren't told about it. Lizzie had married Joel and that was it. But then the council asks Lizzie as the queen, what will they do about the marriage between the ocean kingdon (Jimmy) and the lost empire (Joey). Lizzie promises Jimmy she will Joey.

Lore wise, those two kingdoms were at war for a very long time and the mers were nearly wiped out, which is why the marriage proposal was originaly written, to make sure the ocen empire survives. Today, tge situation is reversed, if Lizzie wanted, her and Joel's troops would wipe the lost empire from the map. So Jimmy has to decide if he really wants to start a years old conflict again, just because he doesnt want to marry Joey.

So Jimmy proposed to at least visit his "future husband", to give him a chance. But it's bad. Joey and Lizzie keep threatening each other and Joey clearly hates Jimmy. So Jimmy's looking for alternatives, ways to end the conflict in peace. During a huge argument Joey basically says "The only reason I'm doing this is to save my kingdom, but if you want me to be the bad guy so badly, I'll gladly oblidge. Go on, play martyr for someone who has nothing to lose by killing innocent lives. I'm sure they'll all thank you."

Anyway, they have to announce their marriage at the meeting of the kings (monthly event) and everyone can clearly tell there's no love there, not even friendship. The wither rose alliance teases Jimmy about the wedding. It's so akward and uncomfortable and Jimmy has to leave with Joey, as his fiance.

In the following month Jimmy tries to big brain the marriage and find alternatives, that he could present at the meeting. So when the gather again, he proposes an ambitious plan: "The treaty says that the second child of the ocean king will marry the jungle king's son, unless any of them are married beforehand." so Jimmy presents the maps and the families and then says that if he and Joey marry the Rivendell twins, then they have a mediator for the conflict and they don't have to fight. Some kings don't like that, because it would make the alliance of all the kingdoms too big. Katherine loves it.

Joey is a bit mad, because he had admited to Jimmy in a moment of weakness that he likes Xornoth. Jimmy had met Scott a few times. The elfs laugh at Jimmy too and Xornoth mockingly proposed to Jimmy, to prove his plan was naive and stupid. And Jimmy's angry. He spent so much time, so much effort, he's throwing himself into a loveless marriage. So to the shock of everyone and out of spite he says "Thank you prince Xornoth, I Jimmy of the Ocean empire accept your proposal." and slams the door and leaves.

Jimmy goes to a balcony and freaks out, because Scott and Joey looked both hurt by it. Joey will murder him for trying to marry his crush. Scott will hate him now for sure and "Why did I do that?!" His angsty boy phase is interrupted by the Wither rose alliance who come to "congratulate" him on his new engagement and only the girls sound genuine. As per tradition, Scott invites Jimmy to Rivendell to "meet his future husband properly"

So Jimmy takes his things from the lost empire, trying to avoid Joey, because it looked like they were starting to bond (Joey liked Jimmy's plan to marry the twins and even joked he would help Jimmy woo Scott) and now he betrayed him. The last part I have for the AU, is that Jimmy slowly befriends Xornoth and after the discovery that Xornoth likes Joey, but he's just a bit much sometimes, he decides to wingman them.

The ultimate wingman move Jimmy pulls is by approaching both Joey and Xornoth with another proposal - A three way marriage. "I might not marry for love, but I think you should have the chance." and they both accept. So the next month Jimmy reannounces his marriage for the 3rd time. Now it's up to Scott to make a move :)

Bonus bits:

Jimmy: "Remember my stupid plan to avoid war? The plan when we marry the elf twins? The plan that would never work? The plan you opposed? That plan!"

Scott at the altar: Jimmy please, just say "I do"

Jimmy: "This is my villain speech and I want no interruptions. You see I've recently had three fiancees-"

Xornoth: turns to Joey "Are you sure you still want him as your best man?"

Introspection for the ideologies/concepts for 3rd life. Including the final fight (last 5 people remaining)

Okay, but how interesting it is, that one of the biggest conflicts through the entire series was the theme of

Loyalty vs Betrayal

And we can see that through the entire series? Like you have chatacters who were and stayed loyal and (from their perspective) got punished for never changing a side. But on the other hand, you have those who betrayed and died from it.

Like look at the first 3 people out. They ALL died fighting for their friends and never betrayed anyone. They were loyal and that led them to their early deaths. So does that mean betrayal is more beneficiary? Let me break it down with the help of the final 5:

Impulse: The guy who betrayed all his enemies for the Crastle, for his "secret girlfriend", dies to Bdubs, someone he trusted, over a clock. From outside perspective, this is the truth, but realisticly? Bdubs had doubts, he never trusted Impulse after he returned and the rest of the Crastle was the same.

Impulse was supposed to prove his loyalty by hurting the red alliance, but unfortunately for him, thanks to the red desert, the Crastle trap was exposed. And now thanks to the desert, Impulse lost his life for being a traitor FOR the people he loved. In his last moment he worries for the safety of his friend (Bdubs) and gets killed by them. Funny, how Skizz died the same way :) Impulse was punished for his betrayal.

Big B: He was neutral for the most part, but you can't deny he was loyal to his friends. It was not his fault Grian and Martyn were on opposing sides. But when the war called for it, he stayed with the king. He kept the "No killing pass" and pleaded for it's usage. BigB was only unlucky, that Bdubs made the final deal first.

But realisticly, B was rewarded. I mean, Scar and Grian actually kept their word and let Bdubs do the deed. They even let him return the pass and had a small bonding moment. BigB's death was unlucky, but I wouldn't consider it being punished. Thus - Big B was rewarded for his loyalty.

Bdubs: Bdubs is a hard one to analyze, because the question here is, was he punished for being loyal and protective of his family, or punished for betraying it? I mean, by not trusting Impulse, he was protecting Cleo and Tango. But by siding with Scar and Grian, he betrayed himself and his quest for justice.

How funny, that Bdubs and Impulses last moment was them being pals, before the horryfing reveal. How interesting, that Scar and Bdubs hung out as coffin bros, Scar encouraged Bdubs to take on Grian, before plunging a sword into his back.

Bdubs was rewarded for being loyal, but couldn't protect his family. And then he kills the last potential ally, so he could die 3rd, thabks to another family. So you decide, was he rewarded or punished?

Scar: Oh boy do I have many thoughts about Scar. The guy went around the whole server scaming everyone for friendship points, which actually were kept track of, so Scar never lied about them. The kill pass is half hit and half miss, as it was purely circumstantial. More of the events in my analysis for Grian, but let's look at one key moment:

Scar tempts Bdubs to betray Impulse, because Impulse is a known betrayer. He will not kill BigB, because he is true to his word and won't break his promise, which is why he convinces Bdubs to kill BigB, indirectly betraying BigB in the proces. And then he realizes Grian, his loyal follower, is yellow. And it hits him, Grian could be dangerous, Grian will betray him. So he throws the pass and hopes for the best.

And then as soon as the pass gets picked up, he attacks Grian, who sounds confused and hurt. Scar betrays their bond first. And then he teams with Bdubs. Talks about killing Grian, bonds with him in the coffin, estabilishing trust between each other. So when Grian asks to meet them, they go. Scar tells Bdubs they will take Grian down, but as soon as he is on the mountain, he messages Grian he has a plan. And when Grian strikes, angry about the betrayal?

He does the only logical thing to prove his loyalty - plunges a sword into Bdubs's back. Betraying someone who he used as a means to an end. And yet... And yet Scar tells Grian that now they are the last two alive, Grian can take Scar's last life. Because it's just repaying a favour, the loyalty Grian displayed. But unfortunately for Scar, even after divine intervention, the universe decided he will be punished for all the betrayals.

Grian: Grian who told everyone he will leave Scar as soon as he dies VS the Grian who made sure Scar is safe, secure and has a chance to keep living. Grian had spoken about betrayal and yet, he always stayed loyal. Sure, he would not care if Scar was alone and surrounded by danger, but he supported him no matter what.

And the final fight. It's the last 3, Grian picks up the paper and gets killed by Scar. He possibly knew it could happen, but the fact he only sees that message? The fact that Bdubs is still alive and with Scar? That hurts. The first thing Grian does when he sees Scar is ramming him and yelling "Traitor!" Because yeah, to Grian Scar is a traitor. And then Scar choses Grian over Bdubs and Grian is conflicted.

He tells Scar to meet him at Pizza's and reflects. Did the betrayal even happened? Was this just Scar's plan? Was he wrong to assume Scar would ever betray him? And then Scar kneels down and tells Grian he can kill him. Of course, he gets stopped by the voices of those fallen, so they agree on a one last fist-fight, but the meaning? The actions? They reflect in their last moments.

They are standing in a cactus ring, in their territory, in their home, surrounded by their walls. And after a few punches, Grian knows he has the advantage. That he will win. So he starts apologizing, because even after all his words, he never wanted to betray Scar, NEVER took the chance. But the worst part will be the knowledge, that Grian is the cause for all of this.

He killed Scar and got indebted. He made sure Scar stays alive as much as he could. He protected Scar during the last moments and now, now he will be the one to take his final life. And Scar is okay with that, Scar is willing to repay the loyalty. So Grian might have gotten rewarded for staying loyal, but at what cost?

So what have I learned through all this?

That loyalty had won in the end. It might have seemed cruel and unfair at times, but in the end. It prevailed and I think there's something beautiful about that.

And I’m so sorry to hear that! I completely agree, it’s so baffling to see people who hate Orihime so violently, yet spite-ship her with either Ishida or Ulquiorra. It’s so bewildering to go through an anti’s blog search bar and see the Ishi/hime tag followed by an Anti-Orihime tag, because why would anyone ship something if they hated one of the shipped characters so much?

I have seen a couple shippers who do ship Ishi/hime because they like the dynamics and they genuinely love Orihime as well, which is cool and should be encouraged more. But I completely agree with you that the spite-shippers’ perspectives on Ishi/hime is absolutely disgusting: I do not like seeing Ishida turned into a Nice Guy who deserves Orihime’s bread buns because she was nice to him in the Soul Society arc. Neither Ishida nor Orihime deserve to be reduced to such a state.

And those spiteful, rabid I/R’s really have a huge problem with projection, to be honest. They claim Ichihime fans spite-ship Renruki, yet literally almost every IH shipper I’ve seen likes RR just as much as their OTP. They claim IH’s loathe Rukia, when pretty much all IH’s actually love Rukia and enjoy her character. Like, seriously. I’ve never seen a fandom project themselves onto others so much before, it’s stunning. They claim Orihime’s a villain and a selfish, weak crybaby, but let’s be honest. If they were in Orihime’s shoes during the Hueco Mundo arc, the Arrancars would’ve torn them to pieces for being so whiny and screeching so much. Orihime is so much stronger than they ever hope to be, and her breakdown during the Lust chapters was completely understandable because she’s only human. They’re truly awful people; they take complicated situations and turn them black-and-white so they can vilify Orihime and Renji, and it is disgusting to see them ignore their subsequent growth because they can’t get over the fact that Orihime and Renji are so much better than they ever hope to be.

Like you said, it’s really telling when spite-shippers focus more on Ishida than Orihime when discussing why Ishi/hime is apparently superior to Ichihime. Also, Orihime loving Ichigo never made her weak at all??? Ichigo helped Orihime become stronger, and her love for him is very sincere and genuine as well. The whole Five Lifetimes, One Love speech was one of the most beautiful love confessions in manga, and it saddens me when haters can’t see the beauty of that love. Orihime is not some vapid, shallow harlot like haters make her out to be.

And lastly, anon, don’t let the haters ruin those ships for you! In fact, just do what I do: if I see Renji hate, I create more Renji-centric fanfic so I can focus on him being awesome and amazing, because I know that he’ll always be better than those worthless anti’s~ I won’t let spite-shippers ruin Byaren or Renji for me, so it’s important to remember that for every hater there is, there’ll always be good fanworks on the hated characters~! （●´∀｀）ノ♡

I'll gladly wait for your response to my ask (or asks??? we'll see one day ehehehe)! I feel you, when people cite some of my text messages from a few months (or more) ago I'm often like "nope, nah-ah, that's not me, you're wrong". Same for older essays, I often can't believe I wrote those. And even with things I wrote late at night a few weeks ago, sometimes I'm like "I wrote that? That monstrosity??? Okay, I need more sleep before writing". (My capacity of writing in correct English grammar usually goes to sleep before I do, same goes for varied word choice). But sometimes I'll see this project I've worked on YEARS ago and exactly recognize the pieces I wrote? Since the ask would be fairly recent, I suppose I would recognise my writing style and word choice and since I didn't wrote it whilst sleep deprived (I hope??) I'm setting my chances of recognising it pretty high. But we'll see one day, the mystery will marinate for a while... [I am rereading this in the daytime, and this is EXACTLY what I meant, at night I make the weirdest word choices?? I’m definitely not changing it though because I might find it kinda funny]

Specifically, I would be studying for my exams, explaining topics to myself like I always do, so I'd tell myself "The six possible origins of economies of scope are indivisibility, specialisation, marketing, research and development, GUESS WHAT.. SUBWAY DRIVER GANDÍA... ehhh... what was I doing again??" OR: "one of the most detailed and most used models of responsive regulation is Brathwaite's piramid. His enforcement piramid visually shows, nope not important, SUBWAY DRIVER GANDÍAAAAAA" And I'd laugh, continue explaining theories and calculations to myself until my focus started lessening again and my thoughts would wander off again. Yess, those pictures I saw from Promising Young Woman look so beautiful and aesthetic!! I'll probably watch it somewhere after the 16th, because I'll most likely have finished my last exams by then. I had an exam last Friday and I absolutely rewarded myself, because it went better than I expected and I passed an earlier exam and a paper too! I still have two exams to go, so I could always buy a tricorne for finishing either of those, OR. EVEN BETTER. I'll ask my parents (or my grandparents) for one for my birthday. I mean, that would be hilarious. They'd be so confused. They've never seen S3 and S4 of LCDP so they'll have no idea, even if I tried to explain it. It would be so incredibly funny (and really really weird for them), I am laughing like crazy just at the thought of it.

I've never been in Finland before, but those temperatures do not sound legal indeed. I always assumed I would follow a more... you know… legal... career path, maybe even literally a career in law. But, my accounting professor also showed us how to manipulate financial statements ("so you can notice when people are doing this", uh-huh sure, sure that’s why) and another professor of mine also said that a criminal career sometimes could be the more rational, rewarding choice over a legally acceptable career. So, I suppose I should not be surprised by this sudden change of career plans. I should have seen this coming. And what better way to be able to avoid the laws than by knowing exactly what they are and how far you can go. And if that plan doesn’t work out, the books of law I have (they’re combined in two huge hardcover bundles) are really heavy and you could probably harm someone with them if you hit hard enough… Well, I suppose you can even leave “hard” away, just by hitting someone softly with those books you can bring serious harm to them… Ah, and like that one professor would say: in this scenario it would be a rational choice to become a pirate instead of a privateer. Oh dear, not Arturito :/ Mutiny would seem like a good option, I’ll take over the ship and become Palermo the Pirate. Sounds much and much better than “Arturo the Pirate”, since that isn’t an alliteration, sooo mutiny is reasonable even for that reason. Last week has been pretty good (except for having to make a test at 9:30, what a godless time, I’m usually barely awake by then ehehehe), I think I aced the test I had, got back some good grades and finally got my first Covid vaccination (and only shortly slight dizziness as a side effect, so that's pretty great). And thanks so much!!! For now I’m safe from Gandía, but somewhere in mid-July I’ll have to take an exam on campus, so I’ll might be able to bring out my inner Palermo then.

I'm so happy to hear you got your covid vaccine!!!! I had mine a month ago or so - I typed you a reply to the subway Gandía thing on the train ride back, actually. I was really stressed about getting it on my right arm, because I'm left-handed, and last time I got a vaccination (like a decade ago) they insisted on giving it on my left arm and I was sad :( But this time!! I got it on my chosen arm and was very pleased. So anyway, that was a segue. I'm glad you got your covid shot and were side effect -free!!!

My week has been good, thank you!! I went to my uni city for my niece's birthday on Monday, and as said I'm going back on Friday (tomorrow). So this time in between has felt like exactly that, time in between. I started reading Call Me By Your Name. I had my Korean class last night. Now I'm hanging out with my cat (she has stopped chasing flies and climbed to my lap) and talking to you. My holidays started already in May! And uni resumes in the beginning of September, but I'm a tutor for new students so I need to show up three weeks earlier for the orientation weeks. Yes, we do three weeks of orientation (read: three weeks of drinking). It's a bit insane.

Now I need to ask you again how your week has been, since I'm so slow. How has your week been?? Are you free from your exams?? When does your uni resume?

Stroopwafels are so good ahhh I'll have to buy them when and or if I see them.
