I mean there’s nothing in canon that disproves that the Core is super goofy. so why not

...
In Amphibia episode "the Beginning of the End" Darcy captures Anne and others and intends to "do what [Andrias] could not: kill Anne." This is easily the scariest Darcymoment to me, because of the ease of which Darcy does that and because Darcy makes this face:
Tumblr media
This is not a Marcy expression. This is about as far from Marcy as you could possibly get. Marcy would never make this expression in this context. Why?
Well, know that Darcy has all of Marcy's memories. Marcy has known Anne since they were toddlers, and they hung out after school every day. She probably knew Anne's favorite foods and Anne's favorite color. They probably watched movies together, huddled under a blanket with moonlight streaming in from the window. Do you know what it takes to know all of that and still wear this expression? You'd have to be a special kind of fucked up to do that, and I don't believe that Marcy is that fucked up.
So. This image would singlehandedly convince me that Darcy really, really, isn't Marcy, and isn't influenced by Marcy in this way at least. Because if Marcy had any amount of say in this - the Core wouldn't be able to kill Anne. At least not with this expression.
Sidenote I actually kinda like that Marcy is completely powerless in controlling Darcy's actions. It makes her slapping away Aldrich's hand all the more meaningful because Aldrich takes away everything afterwards, leaves her in a dark room with nothing, just herself, some lonely little girl in her school uniform and not Marcy the chief ranger of the Newtopian Knight Guard. And she still rejects him.
Anyway. Where does Darcy's quirkyness come from? Well, Darcy says it might've "inherited some of [Marcy's] quirks" but it clearly doesn't get influenced that much from Marcy (see the above). From what I can identify "inherited some of her quirks" might mean that ol' Darce here enjoys Marcy's favorite foods more and falls over a bunch. I can't say anything conclusive on like, personality changes because the Core doesn't have a canon personality that isn't Darcy to compare and contrast to, which is honestly such a shame.
But. There is one thing the Core does when it has yet to become Aldrich-as-the-Core or Darcy-as-the-Core. And that is this:
Tumblr media
It gets really close to people just to mess with their heads. This is a consistent character trait displayed both as the Core and as Darcy. This does imply that it has a consistent personality.
Tumblr media
Besides, the Core literally named itself “Dark Marcy” because “the name appeals to us,” implying that that thing is canon goofy I refuse to believe otherwise!!
EDIT: Also the Core's first reaction to meeting Marcy is to demand Andrias kill her. Immediately. It's first reactions as Darcy to meeting Anne is to 1. mock her, 2. declare the rebellion over, 3. fecking kill her!? That's a very short path to killing, displayed both as the Core and as Darcy. Darcy is extremely hardcore and has no chill dot png.
Again, the Core doesn't have much of a personality, so I'm afraid the analysis has to end here. Sorry guys.
also this consistent character trait

Time to Talk About Flagging
So this is a post I honestly didn't think I'd ever HAVE to write, but since I've noticed a lot of people sharing information about it that's not entirely correct, I thought I'd do a quick post and kind of talk a bit about metalhead fashion, queerness, and flagging, because we really should have this conversation before things get too out of hand. I mean, they already have, but after seeing another post with incorrect info, I felt like I should post something. So - here. Flagging. In general, yes, it is a way for queer folks to identify their various preferences wrt to hooking up. Because, let's be clear - that's exactly what these flags are FOR. This is not for dating. This is for fucking. It's the reason why there are so many colors (well, apart from the fact that the people who created the concept just ordered literally all the colors the supplier had in these fugly western-style bandanas and made up the meanings for the various colors/how to wear them as basically a clever marketing thing) - to simplify and speed up what can be a time-consuming process of the hookup-search. HOWEVER. Something that most people who post about flagging don't really figure in is that metalhead/rocker fashion of the time usually did include some kind of bandana or hanky.
Tumblr media
With the way the plot shakes out, literally this is the entirety of Eddie's wardrobe for the whole season. What you see is what you get. Throw his vest/jacket combo on top and that's him for the entire season, basically. Something else to note - is the skulls on his bandana. Those are a clear indicator that this is something he's wearing either for the aesthetic (skulls are very metal, I can hear Eddie saying it in my head lol) or for practicality's sake rather than an indicator of how he likes to fuck. We got a tour of Eddie's room thanks to one of the production team and I noticed that he also has a vehicle parts manual on the nightstand beside his bed - and we know he drives a piece o'shit van that actively smokes when he drives it lol (Another thing we know - he's definitely shagged people at some point - there's also a box of Trojans on his nightstand, opened even!) He could be using the skull hanky for wiping his nose if he sneezes or uses it as a convenient spot to wipe his hands if he gets something gross on them (working on his van?). The skulls could also indicate something like pirates or 'outlaw' cowboys, both of which have some deep roots in various music of the time period. Considering his love of music, though, and the fact that he's in a band, I'd say Eddie leans in more for the horror/metal part of things. Most of that stuff is just background detail in the face of the other reason why I don't think Eddie's flagging. He lives in Hawkins, Indiana - it's a dinky little town in the midwest in the 80s. As fanfic authors have pointed out, he would generally have a much safer time trying to find people to hook up with in a bigger city, because the chances of more queer folks being there was higher. Either way - no fucking safety-conscious queer would flag in Hawkins, Indiana. Not if they didn't wanna get aggressively harassed every single day. 'Cause, see, that's the thing that a lot of people who are talking about flagging don't get - if Eddie had flagged in Hawkins, somebody would have figured out what the flag meant and they would have killed him. Eventually. And that's another thing - character-wise? Eddie's too smart to do something so reckless. Even though he's non-conformist, he's also (he would say) a coward, who runs away from conflict - why would he want to wear something hanging from the back of his jeans every single day, in plain view, if he was aware that it would make him a target? Because it might not be Jason - it could be somebody bigger, nastier, even more determined to prove a point about being a 'freak' in 'nice town' like Hawkins. Someone he couldn't just blow off or duck by getting them in trouble at school.
Tumblr media
To give you some perspective - Matthew Shepard was a 21-year-old college student who went out to a bar one night in Laramie, Wyoming and tried to pick up a guy (reportedly) and that guy and the guy's drunk loser friend decided to drag Matthew out to a field, beat him to within an inch of his life, and leave him strung up in a field in the freezing cold. That happened in 1998. It happened in my lifetime and you're reading my words now. Okay? We getting a better idea, now, of how much worse it probably would have been for Eddie in Hawkins and why people can't just go around flagging willy-nilly? Cool. Thanks for coming to my Ed Talk.
