Y/N woke up, blinking up at the dark sky above. She watched the palm fronds rustling in the breeze, listening to the soft sound of the waves gliding against the sand.
She should be dead.
Y/N shifted with a grimace, her muscles ached and her throat was raw.
She shifted herself up onto her elbows with a whimper, fingers finding the bottom of her shirt and dragging the stained material upwards to expose her stomach.
The gunshot had healed crudely into a patch of red, twisted, painful-looking scar tissue. Y/N let the material fall back into place, digging her elbows into the sand underneath her as she pushed herself up into a seated position with a wince.
She looked around, eyes finally meeting with the icy blue ones that had been silently observing her from a few feet away.
"What happened?" She asked softly.
"I didn't have a choice. I couldn't let you die," Bucky stated, looking down at his hands.
"What did you do, Bucky?" Y/N questioned.
Bucky tucked a hand into his pocket before pulling out the empty syringe of serum, "I'm sorry," He said, holding it out to her.
She took the vial from his hand, examining it carefully before looking up at him again, "Where did this even come from?" Y/N asked.
"I saw it in the sand, must have gotten swept up when you teleported us," Bucky said.
"You saved my life," She stated.
"I'm also the reason you got shot in the first place," Bucky muttered, gaze focused on the sand between them.
He looked up as Y/N shifted, using the trunk of the palm tree to steady herself as she stood.
"You really shouldn't be moving around right now," Bucky stated, standing up and moving towards her, "Sit back down before you hurt yourself," He advised.
Bucky stiffened as she wrapped her arms around him, pressing her body against his chest, "Thank you," She said.
Bucky gulped, tears gathering in his eyes as he wrapped his arms around her in a tight embrace.
He had almost lost her today.
Bucky had held her in arms as her blood soaked into his clothing, listening helplessly as her heartbeat slowed.
There was a point when he thought the serum wouldn't take hold, but Bucky was endlessly thankful that it had.
He couldn't imagine his life without her, regardless of how much of an annoyance she could be sometimes.
She was alive. She was safe. And he loved her.
"Thank you, Bucky," She repeated.
....
The pair had decided that Y/N would try to teleport them back to Latvia in the morning.
She needed to rest and heal before attempting to use her powers again, especially after being given the serum.
Bucky had built them a fire on the beach to keep warm through the night. He watched Y/N through the flames, she sat quietly with her knees pulled to her chest.
"How do you feel?" Bucky asked.
She shrugged, "Not really any different. My body is a little sore though, my throat too," Y/N said.
"You were screaming," Bucky said, stabbing a stick into the sand in front of himself.
"I was?" Y/N questioned.
"Yeah, and thrashing around. I held you down so you wouldn't hurt yourself," He said, avoiding her gaze.
Bucky felt guilty, he had given her the serum without her consent and forced her to go through the worst pain that he had ever endured.
Bucky knew how awful it could be to have your ability to choose taken away. Despite her reassurance, his guilt still sat heavily in his stomach like a rock.
"I don't remember anything," Y/N said.
"That's a good thing, trust me," Bucky assured, breaking the stick in half and tossing it into the fire.
"Can I ask you something?" She asked softly, Bucky nodded.
"I know that you don't like me very much. So, why did you save me? Why did you stay?" Y/N asked.
Bucky scoffed, shaking his head, "What? Am I missing something?" She questioned.
"Yeah, you are," Bucky stated.
"Care to enlighten me, then?" Y/N asked.
"I saved your life because I'm in love with you," Bucky said quickly, eyes finding her's across the flickering flame.
"But I thought-" "Yeah, well, you thought wrong," Bucky snapped, eyes dropping to the embers in the bottom of the makeshift firepit.
A tense silence settled over them, punctuated by the soft crackle of firewood. Bucky kept his eyes fixated on the ground, he couldn't bring himself to look at her.
Her rejection would destroy him, but he deserved it.
"You love me?" Y/N asked softly.
Bucky huffed, bright blue eyes reluctantly meeting with her's, "Yeah," He admitted.
Bucky watched her as she stood, making her way around the fire and sitting down directly beside him.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
Y/N grabbed his wrist, lifting his arm over her head and allowing it to settle around her waist as she leaned into his side.
"I'm in love with you too. Despite your bad attitude and hatred for my obviously hilarious jokes" She said.
A weight felt like it had been lifted off his shoulders.
She loved him back. She was alive and she loved him.
Bucky smiled slightly, "Your jokes are awful," He said.
"No, they're not," Y/N stated.
"They are," He argued.
"No, listen to this one, I've been saving it just for you... What do you call an alligator detective?" She asked.
Bucky shook his head with a smile, "I have no idea," He said.
"An investi-gator. Get it? Because the-"
Bucky cupped her cheek, pressing his lips to her's in a gentle kiss. Her eyes fluttered shut, lips moving tentatively against his.
Bucky pulled away slightly, resting his forehead against her's.
"Tell me another one," He said softly.

Thirty-six minutes. That is how long you were dead.    More than half an hour in which all Oberyn could do was try and not give in to the despair. If he had, he would have drowned all of Scandinavia in fire, darkening himself so absolutely that Simon would not have had to make any effort to corrupt him. He would have happily destroyed the world for not allowing you to exist.
His call to the emergency services had been panicked and largely incomprehensible, so how they had managed to arrive and begin to work on you in less than five minutes, was a right miracle.    They had asked him so many questions he could not hope to answer. Not because he did not know, but because so much about you is not knowable. You are an orphan, which of course makes your medical history impossible to determine, but at the same time, your human body is not merely human, so there is no way to fully understand it.    But how could he explain any of this?
All your readings had come back flat. Your ECG, pulse and blood pressure no more than lines upon their machines. Your temperature dropping by the minutes. But the four paramedics had been so professional and skillful, not giving up even as their efforts had yielded no results, one of them coming to his side and offering comfort when they had noticed how he had begun to spiral into fits of agony.
But your heart had never even responded enough for them to try and shock it with the defibrillator, and they had just decided to give up when you had suddenly returned.    Waking up as though you had simply taken a nap, the machines had all come to life at once, not with blaring alarms or dramatic flashes, just the steady beeps indicating your heartbeats and normal readings of blood pressure, oxygenation, pulse and temperature. All had appeared at once, as if having been there all along.
He did not dare believe it at first, waiting for his heart to start beating again and his lungs to stop contracting before he could accept that the shock which he was seeing in the medical staff was all real.    Equally stunned at the sudden appearance of several strangers around your naked body, in what must have been mere seconds to you, you had tried to ease the tension as best you could, while likely letting your mind catch up to what must have happened in your absence.
So controlled, even under such strange and unusual circumstances, while Oberyn had nearly lost his mind.    Still, the relief of having you back had soon taken over, allowing him to rejoice in the moment, even as you had then demonstrated the power of your new understanding.    And now, less than an hour later, you sit upon his back as alive as you have ever been.
More than that, you are happy. Despite the dire state of the world, whatever you have learned in your spiritual endeavor, it has left your soul harmonious. He can feel it in the energy you give off. The light you spread by simply existing. And he envies you, for his own heart is muddled by fear, both the lingering dread of a world without you, but also a terrible worry this new plan of yours will fail.    Not due to any lack of faith in your abilities, but rather in the stark absence of any plan whatsoever.
You told him first to fly south, to the capitol of Norway, and he did. But once there, you had climbed down, walked among the frightened and fleeing people, somehow stopping them without a word, before you had touched the shoulders of a select few and then returned to him. Climbing back on without a word of explanation, you had merely asked him to head for Stockholm next. So, he did. And then Finland, from where you had directed him to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and now Poland is your next stop.
But you say nothing more. You have not even attempted to help him understand what is actually being done, somehow under the impression that your demonstration in the hotel room should be enough for him to grasp the concept.    Alas, he does not.
   “Valya?”
   “Yeah?”
“What is this? What exactly are you doing in the capitols for only a few minutes, to leave you with such confidence it will turn the tides of this war?”
“I can try to explain, but it probably won’t help much, because I don’t understand most of it myself. Not consciously, anyway. I just know in my heart that this is what I need to do.”
“Please, try,” he beckons as gently as he can manage, and feels your soothing hands stroke his neck while you oblige him, clearly sensing his frustration.
“All life on this planet is connected, and that’s what makes our side of this war so unfathomably powerful,” you begin, and you sound so animated. “Because when I touch these people, I feel what weighs on them. Their pains and everyday torments. The existing darkness within all of us which Simon uses to manipulate us. And once I know what it is, I can take it away.”
“But how? People can’t just be freed of fear, can they?”
“Not freed, no. What I do is take away the power that fear has over them. I put so much hope in their souls that even if the sky should come crashing down, they wouldn’t panic. And when I do that, each person I’ve touched then spreads their light to every other person they meet, and once enough positive energy has been created, nature becomes affected as well, carrying it further and further out into the countryside.”
“This all sounds most wonderful, but I still fail to grasp how it helps us combat the darkness which still spreads to the west.”
“I’m flooding the world with light, Oberyn. So much of it, within all living things, that no matter how hard he tries, Simon won’t be able to infect anything more. His army won’t be able to grow any further which means his power will stop growing as well.    In the meantime, I’m also increasing our power, yours and mine, because with every life we add to the whole, their strength becomes our strength.    Can’t you feel it? How much lighter you already fly. How much easier each stroke of your wings is becoming.    The world is already carrying you, my love. All you need to do is trust it.”
He knows the feeling of which you speak. The lightness with which he glides through the air now, as though the winds themselves have become his allies. It is part of the reason for his concern.    Perhaps simply because he has never felt accepted or wanted by this world, but the thought that all living things could ever willfully lend their power to him, is precisely what makes him doubt this endeavor.
However, his trust in you is absolute. He will not challenge your authority or attempt to dissuade you from this course.    But the other reason for his concern is the fact you had to die to learn of this ability to spread hope. The spirit within you is not only the most powerful of all, but also the most mysterious, hiding from all worlds and all realms since the dawn of time.    And having seen you lifeless, he is no longer convinced that trusting it blindly will end well for all parties involved.
Oberyn has a growing fear within his chest which whispers in his ear of your fragility in this mere human form, trying to convince him that no matter how well prepared you might be… the final battle will inevitably claim your life.    Of course, this is quite possibly only his own mind attempting to prepare for a worst-case scenario which, it cannot be denied, is not at all improbable. But he must not allow these thoughts to color his perception, or he himself might be the cause of your demise.    So, he keeps his deepest worries concealed, hoping they will not fester within the depths of his soul.
-=<>=-=<>=-=<>=-
All your life you’ve thought about how travelling around the world would be your treat to yourself after a long life of hard work and scraping together the money. And now, you’re jumping from country to country, making lightning fast visits to every capitol of the world, zig-zagging down the European continent, over to Africa, before turning back up and moving over the eastern European region, making four stops in Russia because of it’s size, and then taking on the Asian continent.
Because of the frequent stops, the dragon remains low to the ground, letting you see the impressive landscape of the Alps, the African savannah, active volcanoes in Iceland, Italy and Ethiopia. Then the Himalayas, which quite literally take your breath away as he takes a slightly longer route, winding his way between the largest peaks and the deepest valleys to let you truly see the might of these age-old formations which he helped create.
However, it’s also so much more than just the impressions from your senses. You can feel the world around you now, from the growing light within the human population, to the awakening power of the billions of trees who are so integral to the ecosystem, to the countless vibrations generated by the array of buzzing insects just going about their day.    But more than anything, you feel the mountains.
There is so much energy locked within their mass, so much more lifeforce than you could ever have imagined could be found within cold, hard stone.    It’s as if the gravitational and magnetic forces of the Earth are in constant conflict with the unyielding material, creating a completely separate energy in the process, stored within each crack and cavity of the bedrock.    You wonder if Simon can sense it too, and whether, if he can, he might also be able to use it to feed and strengthen his darkness.
In any case, you’re confident of your chances when it comes to the survival of life and light. With each passing hour more countries are joining the force for good, until all that’s left is Antarctica and then South America.    From the southernmost point of New Zealand, Oberyn gets you to the icy continent in record time, and it’s a strange thing to come to such an isolated place as an unexpected visitor. And not just because you’re arriving on the back of a dragon.
In every other country the cities you’ve visited have been large, to varying degrees, filled with human, animal, and plant-life, whereas here, some of the towns or research facilities consist of five structures, of which most are tents.    There are no plants and while you can feel the presence of birds and penguins further away, there’s no connection between them and the human settlements.    It is more heavily populated than you would’ve imagined, though. Some four thousand people in total are working on the continent, which is in its summer season.
You ask Oberyn to land at McMurdo Station, where there are a lot of people out and about in the mild and clear weather, enjoying the sun while they can.    But unlike all the other places you’ve landed today, these people seem completely unafraid of the dragon. Perhaps because they’ve chosen to live in one of the harshest environments on earth, making them highly resilient to stress, but it is impressive all the same.
“Hello,” you greet with a smile and a small wave as a crowd quickly begins to gather around main street, where the massive Tyrannus stands tall after helping you step down. “We’re not here to hurt anyone, I hope you can believe that.”
A younger woman steps forward then, while more people continue adding to the curious onlookers further along the street. She’s likely in her mid-twenties and Hispanic, with short and wavy black hair, wearing the kinds of overalls that keeps a person warm while cutting across land on a snowmobile, although the sleeves are pushed down and tied around her waist, revealing a black wool polo-neck jumper underneath.
“I hope you mean it,” she says loud and clear. “Just like I hope I’m not seeing things, because if this is a dream, I’m gonna be so disappointed.”
“It’s not a dream, I promise. We’re here to ask for help.”
“And what could a bunch of scientists at the bottom of the world do for a dragon?”
You step closer to her before you answer, so you can reach her shoulder, but when you raise your hand towards her, she shies away. She stands her ground but pulls her shoulder back sharply.    It’s hard to tell if she’s just unsure of your intentions or if there’s a deeper issue underneath. Normally, you can sense the gist of whatever people are hiding from one another, but this woman seems uncannily skilled at concealing her feelings.
“There’s a terrible evil spreading across the American continent right now, and you can help us stop it,” you explain, keeping your hand raised but still in front of her. “All you need to do is let me touch you.”
Her expression darkens somewhat, hearing that, but when you slowly lower your hand towards the outer curve of her shoulder again, she doesn’t move even though her entire body turns tense and rigid. And when your fingers connect to her, you’re overwhelmed for a moment by the darkness which floods through you.    You can see the hurricane of pain this poor woman has lived with her entire life, from an abusive single mother to the many cruel and downright sadistic men she’d encountered in her eight years as a working girl, getting snared at the age of just thirteen.
She got lucky eventually, taking the opportunity to get out when it happened to appear, and then worked hard for a long time to give herself a real chance at a good life.    But the scars have never healed. She came here to escape the world, not to help it.
“Let your mother go, Daniela,” you whisper, meeting her eyes as they widen at the mere mention of her terrible upbringing. “She may have given you life, but she was never your mother. There’s nothing wrong with hating someone who only ever hurts you, what’s wrong is hating yourself for it.”
A shaking breath escapes her, and with it, the hurricane starts to lose strength.    You place your other hand on her cheek, and the bare contact between your skin and hers amplifies your light as it pours into the empty slots left behind by the fleeing darkness from within her being.
   “Let her go.”
She inhales sharply and you can feel her spirit soar with the sudden freedom. She smiles at you in a way you’re certain she’s never smiled before, so genuinely filled with happiness now that her demons have been driven out.    You know it won’t last forever, because nothing and no one is ever just light or dark, but there’s something truly precious about being able to give someone their own heart back.    She turns to the crowd, scanning it until she finds someone she knows, then runs over to them and hugs them, and you can feel how the light fills them too, immediately growing and spreading, needing nothing but an invitation to take root.
Satisfied that your work here is done, you return to Oberyn, but he doesn’t look nearly as happy as the people around him.    His gaze is drawn to the north, and he seems very concerned.
“What is it?” you ask, and he answers without taking his eyes off the horizon.
   “We need to go.”
“That’s fine, I don’t need to see anyone else here.”
“No, Valya…” he grumbles before finally turning to look at you, and you can see that he’s not just concerned, he’s afraid. “We need to take this fight back to Simon. Now.”
   “But South America-…”
“Is already lost,” he cuts you off, and suddenly you realize what it is he sees on the horizon.
“Oh, god. But… it’s only been a day. How could he overtake two continents that fast?”
“I do not know. He is the most perfected Darkling to have ever lived, I’m afraid we must assume that history will be of little aid to us in this battle.”
He picks you up and lifts you to your seat at the base of his neck, and from up there, you can already see the ashes in the air to the north.
“Wait!” someone calls from down on the ground, and when you peer down the dragon’s side, you see Daniela come to a stop beside him, having apparently run over from her friend. “You’re leaving already?”
   She still looks so happy.
“We have to. It’s time to fight,” you tell her, and her smile fades.
“Oh… Did I help? It doesn’t seem like I did.”
“You still are. Every time you smile or laugh, every happy thought or bright feeling within you will help us win this war.”
With that, Oberyn spreads his wings and leaps out over the bay before taking his first stroke, to avoid knocking everyone to the ground. He follows the Antarctic coast all the way to Alexander Island before he turns north, then he sets his sights on the southernmost tip of Chile, reaching it in what feels like mere seconds.    But seeing it makes your heart drop. It looks exactly like the North American coast did when you first flew over it.
“Do not lose faith, my dear. I don’t pretend to understand how, but it is your belief in the light which will end this darkness, so do not let Simon’s evil rob you of it.”
“It’s not my belief, Oberyn, it’s everyone’s. Haven’t you figured that out yet?” you counter, but he doesn’t respond, which sends a sliver of doubt through you. “Do you not believe in my plan?”
“I believe in you,” he replies without hesitation, but it’s not really an answer to the question.
He can feel your disappointment, and sighs heavily before he speaks again.
“There is a great fear within me… one that will not be silenced by any measure of hope. This fear is not of failure or death, precisely, but about Lux herself. The essence of her being.”
   “How do you mean?”
“You said it yourself, Val. Her purpose is to protect the spirits. And I cannot shake the fear that in doing so, she will annihilate herself, and therefor you as well, should such a thing become required to accomplish her task.    This is the problem with purpose, you see. When your entire existence is bound to the fates of others, there is not always a choice.”
“But that’s what all this was about. Spreading the light so that I’ll be strong enough-…”
“To defeat Simon?” he cuts you off, and his tone clearly implies you couldn’t do that even if you had all the power in the world.
“Freeing the spirits is the only way to do that, I thought we agreed on this,” you argue, and feel him nod once in confirmation.
“We do. But did you not see them? You cannot possibly think that anything but giving it everything you have is going to be enough to free them all.”
“With your help I can do it.”
“I don’t doubt whether you are able, my love. I fear your purpose will command you to sacrifice yourself in the effort.”
“Where is this coming from?” you ask, starting to feel a kind of desperation you can’t really name. “You’ve never doubted my strength before.”
   “And I still don’t. But… you were dead…”
His voice breaks at the memory, and you can feel how truly enormous his pain was in that moment, how relentlessly seared that image is inside his brain. Your dead body on the bed.
“All she did was show you something, and it killed you.    How am I supposed to believe that you can wield her power unscathed after witnessing such a thing?”
“Maybe I can’t. Maybe that’s the price we’ll have to pay to protect this world,” you ponder sadly. “But even if it is… how could I ever walk away? And what difference would that make? I’d still die, just for Simon’s pleasure instead.”
He’s quiet for a moment then, but you can feel his discomfort. Something so deeply engraved into his heart that the mere thought of it agonizes him.
“If you die…… it will not matter if you do manage to save this world. I will burn every inch of it into dust if I must live in it for one day without you.”
Somewhere deep inside you, there’s a twinge as you hear him say that. You don’t know what it means, but it leaves an ominous sensation in its wake. Something lightly queasy.    Then Oberyn dives through a thick black cloud and when he emerges underneath it, you’re looking at the Mexican Gulf, except it’s not an ocean anymore.    In what looks like thick, gloopy mud, and even thicker pools of tar, there are former ocean giants, now unrecognizable blobs with too many mouths and strange appendages seeming to serve no purpose at all, flopping and wriggling about. No longer able to swim and too heavy to move using the poor excuses for limbs their mutated form provides.
You look to the east and the connecting Atlantic Ocean, confirming that it’s already spread beyond what used to be Florida. The Atlantic is too vast and deep to be infected as quickly as the gulf has clearly been, but you’re guessing no more than three days before the darkness reaches Europe. And a quick glance to the west confirms the same thing about the Pacific.    There’s no real way to know if your efforts of spreading light will truly be able to stop its advance if, or when, push comes to shove, so all you can do is hope.
   And fight.
There’s no mistaking Simon’s new home, having built himself a castle in the time you’ve been away. One made of the bones of the dead, surrounded by mutated bushes covered in poisonous thorns.    You can’t see the spirits anywhere, but you’re sure they’re close by. He wouldn’t dare let them wander off, he knows that they’re the only ones who can kill him.
“How are we doing this?” you ask when Oberyn starts to circle above the castle, dropping a little lower with each turn.
“I will try to keep the vines and beasts away from you, but this means you must fight the spirits yourself. Are you ready for that?”
   “I guess we’ll find out.”
He turns his head then, and you see his left eye peer back at you, somehow giving you the feeling that he’s holding back a goodbye. And as you look back into that blue sphere, you realize you’re doing the same.    There’s a rumble from below which draws both of your attention, and you see an army of monsters start to emerge out of the ground.    Simon knows you’re here.
Oberyn waits until the entire ground is littered with these unnatural beings before he swoops down over them, unleashing his fierce weapon, melting and electrocuting them by the millions in just one breath. Then he turns and does another pass, burying the castle under tons of lava.    And while your enemy is blinded as he’s forced to encapsulate himself within a cocoon of continuously dying black vegetation, the dragon lands and drops you off, taking to the skies again the moment he’s sure you’re not immediately overrun by surviving vines.
It takes you a second to adjust, though. The air is thick and hard to breathe down here, and the ground doesn’t feel right when you walk. It’s like there’s no bedrock underneath the surface of it anymore. As though the darkness has corrupted the very crust of the Earth, turning it spongy and unstable. It feels like it’s gonna buckle under your weight at each step, while simultaneously seeming strangely elastic.
A second is about as much as you get before there’s movement in your periphery and you duck on pure instinct, narrowly avoiding being cut in half by some kind of weaponized leaf.    Reminding yourself that movement is your ally, you get up and sprint about thirty yards before stopping to listen and gauge your surroundings. And sure enough, it only takes moments before there are beasts approaching you on two sides.
One is eliminated when Oberyn makes another pass, keeping his flame just far enough from you to keep from harming you, so you refocus on the other one.    You’ve never tested your light in a combat situation before, never consciously attempted to use it as a weapon, but as the creature reaches you, stretching its tentacular arms towards you, it comes to you as easily as if you’d been practicing all your life.    Like a white laser, it beams out of your left hand, cutting through the air for hundreds of yards before it fades, and everything dark it touches is turned to glowing dust.
-=<>=-=<>=-=<>=-
The beam cuts through the dusky atmosphere as if it were the entire sun concentrated into just one narrow ray. It shines so brightly that even the ground it merely passes over is scorched with it, leaving a glowing yellow trail behind which seems to seep into the corrupted soil and intensify.    With each burst of light sprung from your hands in your continued battle, these streaks of embers are multiplied, until there is an entire grid of them around you.
And once they have all spread their secondary effects far enough to reach one another, the whole grid becomes its own weapon, firing additional beams under the surface of the earth, which seem to infect the darkness at its roots.    Oberyn’s faith has been tested in these past few days, but as he watches you channel these powers, he finally begins to believe that this war will be won. He may have lost none of his faith in you on this journey, but his hope for a favorable outcome of this war has never been high.    And by favorable, he means of course that both of you will live to see the world reborn.
On his next pass, he sees Simon emerging from the still melting remnants of his castle, and since he must keep the Darkling’s focus away from you while you hunt for the spirits, he sets down right in front of the former man.
“Ah, yes. Of course. The great viper, Oberyn Nymeros Martell,” he smiles, looking up at the dragon with pure amusement, as if he were a child at a theme-park.
But Oberyn is not amused, he is shocked. He has never been able to recall his full name, and now that he does, it drags up thousands of hidden memories within his mind, flooding his senses with them, overwhelming him to the point where he struggles to remain standing.
“You didn’t think anyone alive today could possibly know anything about your history, did you? But there are ways to look into the past, if you know which energies to tap into.    Man, you were such a brat. Gave your brother Dorian the worst headaches trying to keep you in line so your father wouldn’t beat your ass to kingdom come.”
Dorian… that was his name. The father of the tortured child he had so desperately tried to aid. And Mellario, his wife. They had bickered endlessly of what to name the boy, finally settling on Quentyn the day before the massacre.
“How’s your head, Obe? Splitting I’d imagine, the way you’re trembling like a leaf. But then, you always were a coward.    Do you remember it yet? The battlefields of Dorne? The way you fled from them, from the limbs you’d severed and the blood you’d sent pouring into the sands. There was no pride in you then, and there still isn’t.”
He does recall these things now. But it was not fear which had driven him from the fields of victory. It was sorrow. Because as a young man he had struggled to grasp the purpose of such slaughters. The reek of death had put a darkness within his heart that had ceaselessly made him question the validity of such actions. The supposed honor they garnered.
“Look at you. Even with the great Tyrannus within you you’re still just as weak. I won’t even break a sweat defeating you.”
“You think… knowing a few things about me gives you power over me?” he challenges the dark one, finally regaining his composure after the worst of the overload has faded. “I may not have been a viper before I became the dragon, but it was not due to any weakness.    I mourned the dead for the uselessness of their passing.”
“No, you idiot. You mourned them because of your guilt, and that’s where I’ve already gotten past your defenses,” Simon gloats, and suddenly Oberyn feels something terrifyingly obvious become clear to him.
Whether caused by fear, guilt or sorrow, there is darkness within his soul.    For all your efforts, your light has never reached him. Never flooded the cavities of doubts and insecurities he harbors, so deeply concealed.    A pain unlike anything he has ever experienced begins to spread through him when the tentacles which have ensnared his legs without his notice, begin to pump their venom into his blood.
He tries to fight it. Tries with all his might to keep the darkness from corrupting his heart, but it is no use. The change has already begun. He can feel it spread, burning his insides like acid as it mutates him from within, until black spikes burst out of his armored scales, spewing oil over his white form in such thick layers that it buries the brightness.    And then it hits his brain, and everything he once was, all the memories he has just reclaimed, are swept away. Erased. And Oberyn Nymeros Martell is no more.

Note
estonia for the bingo thing
Tumblr media
Oh god, anon, you really opened the flood gates with this one. This is gonna be a massive post, and I'm so sorry to everyone in advance.
Note: these are all things that bother me personally. I am not attempting to make anyone feel like they should also feel mad about these things. I am not out to shame anyone who has hcs that are different than my own. I'm just breaking my thoughts down. Idc how anyone characterizes Estonia.
1. I Dont Trust The Fandom With Estonia, Ever
Estonia's fandom depictions range from elegant, eloquent, intelligent, calm, and collected to creepy basement dwelling discord mod neck beard with no friends and no personality. The latter characterization is - you guessed it - a leftover from Old Fandom and is slowly dying off. It doesn't stop people from continuing to make him into an internet-y, awkward loser, though, and that's really sad to me, ngl. A lot of people see him as a weak, lonely loser, when this is actually extremely removed from canon. Ofc, headcanons are fine, but I see a surprising amount of people who think this characterization is canon, when in reality, it's just fanon. Canonically speaking, Estonia is very good at making friends and is easily able to maintain good relations with most of the nations. He's perceptive and able to read the feelings of people around him. He has lots of hobbies that he's really good at, too. He's smart and good with money and business. According to Himaruya, he SMELLS LIKE MONEY (which I just think is funny).
Nowadays, the fandom is usually nice to him, but unfortunately I do still see ppl completely mischarachterizing him and his relationships, especially when it comes to the Nordics. I think people tend to forget that Estonia is on good terms with every Nordic except for Iceland, and it isn't for no reason. Estonia shares very strong history with Denmark, Sweden, and Finland - a majority of the Nordics - and Norway seems to like him - or at least tolerate him - too. In the series, Estonia sees Sweden as a mentor figure, and he deeply respects him and his opinions. Finland is Estonia's best friend. Denmark and Estonia are on good terms. Their relationship isn't expanded on much, but Denmark never so much as implies that he thinks Estonia is annoying or a try hard. Norway, notorious teaser and pain in the ass (affectionate) also never teases or takes a jab at Estonia on screen or in the manga.
He's friends with people like America - the two work on silly little projects together just for shits and giggles. Oddly, America seems to treat Estonia quite well; from the little we've seen of their friendship, it seems like the two have been friends for a while, at least since 2007, as "The Gentle Fight Between Russia and I" is based off the 2007 Russian cyber attacks on Estonia. That's around 16 years ago, now.
As mentioned previously, Estonia is also frequently viewed as being wimpy and weak, when this is not the case. People usually tend to point to Estonia's time in the Soviet Union or the first time that Sweden and Estonia meet to back that up, but I counter with this - Estonia was actively being colonized at both of those time periods. The strip "The Violent Mr. Sve of Northern Europe Takes a Swing," is set at the beginning of the Swedish Era in Estonia. It details just how Sweden got ahold of Estonia to begin with - by being generally terrifying on accident. Prior to this point in time, though, Estonia was being treated badly by literally everyone around him (Teutonic Knights, Baltic Germans, etc.), so of course he would assume that this new man was here to treat him similarly (especially if you consider Estonians and Swedes had squabbled in the past over various things, and Estonia ALSO burned down Sweden's first capital.)
As far as the Soviet Era is concerned, Russia was extremely abusive to all of the Baltic States, dishing out really nasty punishments to them - going so far as to kill Latvia (albeit on accident) - when they speak out or annoy him. Of course he would be afraid of him.
Now, though? Estonia is daring and confident. He isn't afraid of Russia and routinely mouths off to him, challenges, stands up to, and outsmarts him. Even if he was afraid before, he isn't now. He has, seemingly, come back into himself. Yay character progression!!
2. I Know Him Better Than The Creator, Yaas, Queen, Give Us Nothing, & If I Could Save Him From the Narrative, I Would.
I know I just wrote 6 whole paragraphs about why I like Estonia's canon depiction, but I have to be 100% honest, I'm also not the biggest fan of Himaruya's interpretation of Estonia. There are good things about him, and I enjoy a lot of what he's put out, but at the same time there are things about him in canon that really annoy me.
For one, despite Estonians being very fond of their country, its history, culture, and language, Estonia... Isn't. At all. He is obsessed with being a Nordic, does not really treat Latvia and Lithuania well (which is strange imo, bc due to shared oppression, history, and struggle, the Baltic States are pretty tight knit.) and doesn't seem to care that it hurts them to know he would rather be a Nordic than a Baltic, and he seems to think that becoming a Nordic will solve a lot of his problems. He talks more about how cool Finnish culture is than he does his own, and that's really disappointing to me because when it comes to history, culture, and language, for Estonia there's so much to talk about.
Like let's think about the Eesti Can't Into Nordic joke that's running in the series. I'd like to remind y'all (/lh) that the Estonian government proposed the idea of Estonia being Nordic only once. One time. And the reason it failed was two-way. Not only did the Nordic nations not care, but Estonians were generally against it.
As far as I know, it's got to do with previously stated attachment to the other Baltics, and also because of their flag. For those who don't know, the Estonian flag was a banned symbol in the USSR, and anyone caught with it could face some pretty hefty punishments. The only reason we still have the original Estonian flag is bc two college dudes were like "mine vittu, venelased!" *Spits on the ground and shoves the Estonian flag behind a chimney where it will stay safe.*
Also. The joke about Estonia wanting to join the Nordics seems silly, as there's been this neat little thing called the Nordic Baltic 8 that's been around since the 90s. There's already an entire organization made up of all the Nordics and Baltics with the point of it being mutual aid and cooperation. Meaning all of the things Estonia thought he'd get by becoming a Nordic have already come to fruition.
On top of that, it had been a symbol of Estonian endurance, freedom, and perseverance for decades by that point. People were so attached to it and adverse to making the tricolor into a Nordic cross, so the idea died.
Edit: was also reminded by an Estonian friend that some of the suggested designs for the first Estonian flag were in fact in a Nordic Cross pattern, but they all lost out to the tricolor, meaning that whole idea wasn't just rejected once, but twice.
There's also something about his name that annoys me a little. While I believe it was genuinely an accident, Eduard's name is surreal. Let me explain what I mean. Himaruya tends to legacy name his characters. England is named for king Arthur, Sweden's last name is taken from a Swedish writer, Finland is named after Väinämöinen, Latvia is named after a Latvian singer.
The only person in Estonian history of any note with the last name Von Bock was a Baltic German man who, among other things, hated ethnic Estonians and believed them to be subhuman. Bit of an oopsie to give him a name like that. Not even Eduard is an Estonian name, it is just the Estonianized spelling of a German name too. Eduard isn't so bad though, since it is actually a common Estonian name.
3. I Want To Protect Them, Babygirl MF, They're Like a Brother to Me, & They're So Cute When They're Bleeding.
Ok so the basics of this one are: I love Estonia, he's a weirdo, he's my favorite, I only ever want good things for him, and yet every single time I write anything involving him, it always winds up being angsty as shit and sad. I am not allowed to let this man be happy, IG.

Eurovision 2023: #22 - #21
Mild like is not a zone I prefer to rest long in, so let's make the next two a package deal so that only 20 remain going into the new year!
Tumblr media
22. SERBIA Luke Black - "Samo mi se spava" 24th place
youtube
Decade Ranking: 63/116 [Above Fyr og Flamme, below TBA]
Spaaaaavaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaai
Tumblr media
But I am getting ahead of myself.
In the days leading up towards towards the rehearsals I got the feeling that Luke would only barely squeak by despite being both Serbian and reasonably well-liked by the fans. This came with the slow realization that "Samo mi se spava" is kind of cringe, oop. All memes eventually become stale, and that rate at which they age accelerates further if the music's kind of not good lol. Not everyone can have the eternal resilience of "In Corpore Sano".
Tumblr media
So yeah, I totes understand why the Latvia stans were pissed they missed out while Luke basically passed to the Grand Final based on flag. However, many acts sucked in the semis, so I'm not bothered if one I liked (sorta) qualified over one i did not (sorta).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not to get things twisted though, "Samo mi se spava" was serviceable for what it was, as a Melovin-lite combination of shock horror and an art major's irreverent graduation project. Once you've accustomed to the senseless krumpcrat choreo and the atonal mewling however, you just have to recognize Serbia's 2023 entry was the vanity project of an ageing emo twink . Do I enjoy it? Yes, but only as ~A Piece~ (not as "a song") and only in small enough doses. Take, a listen every four months.
All that said, there are two small things about "Samo Mi Se Spava" that I greatly enjoy.
(1) the frogmarches remain hilarious so let's enjoy that in gif form:
Tumblr media
What a great way to finish A Piece.
(2) I merely have to think of Luke to hear "SPAAAVAAAAI" and "HELLO?! GAyME OVuh" ring through my mind in his characteristic gaywhispervoice and that ALWAYS produces a chuckle. So ultimately, while "Samo mi se spava" was admittedly not very good, it does manage to lift my spirits somewhat, and for that I'm willing to carry it to 22nd in my list!
-----------------------------------------
Tumblr media
21. UKRAINE TVORCHI - "Heart of steel" 6th place
youtube
Decade Ranking: 62/116 [Above Luke Black, below Kalush Orchestra]
Yeah, Tvorchi did well for themselves. Given the war and the general air of misery surrounding last year's Vidbir (unironically a contender for worst NF this year, even under the circumstances) and the fact that Ukraine picked their most disappointingly heterosexual entry yet, there was no way "Heart of Steel" could become good. Like, who does this appeal to? What sort of person listens to this edgelordian church cabal, and thinks "ah, my favourite has arrived." Just the Musk fanboys, right?
Fortunately for us, Ukraine is the one Eurovision country that always understands the assignment. What do you do when your song below par? You provide a good show at least.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and it kinda nibbled.
...
...
Yeah, there's no punchline. Sorry but it's NYE, i cooked the family dinner by myself and you may think it's a small step to go from roasting broccoli to roasting mediocrities, but the latter action takes up too much thinking space for a brain semi-operating on sparkling wine that is trying to weave in and out of social conversation. Jeffrey sang well, I liked the presentation and it didn't drag the more enjoyable entries around it down, what else can a one ask for? It wasn't going to get any better than what we got. Count them lucky stars, and all that.
Fourth place in the televote is a VERY stupid result (this is more in range of a 14th placer if it were any other country) but let's not end the year on a sour rant. "Heart of steel" could have been a morose drag. Instead it was moderately bemusing. Upward and onward to better things.
THE RANKING
Tumblr media
CONGRATZ FOR MAKING THE TOP 20 to the following:
ALBANIA / ARMENIA / AUSTRALIA / AUSTRIA / AZERBAIJAN BELGIUM / CZECHIA / ESTONIA / FINLAND / FRANCE ICELAND / LITHUANIA / MALTA / MOLDOVA / POLAND PORTUGAL / SLOVENIA / SPAIN / SWEDEN / UK Some of you kind of don't deserve to~ ps: Happy New Year Everyone!!!

Wow, thanks for all the info and sources! I’m looking forward to going though them all, though I still have only finished going through one source from the Israel foreign policy post (ahhh), so who knows how long I’ll take. Presumably these questions could be answered when I go though the sources, but for now, I guess for your own opinion: Do you think that there could be a less extreme solution than just banning it? Could this lead to other social media sites being banned as well? Will more and more countries ban TikTok, considering India, Somalia, Afghanistan, etc. already have banned it? Follow up to the last one, will the Chinese government try to introduce another social media site if TikTok is banned in many countries?
you don't have to go through all of them lol; I like to really overdo it with my amount of sources for my own credibility and for easy reference later. you had questions, and I had sources ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Do you think that there could be a less extreme solution than just banning it?
imo banning TikTok is really just a short-term immediate solution to deal with current circumstances, not a long-term solution for misinformation campaigns (which TikTok's CEO and some other sources mention in a few of those links I included). usually I wouldn't support something this extreme, but current circumstances internationally are unusually extremely volatile right now and it's very likely they'll get worse without some sort of stop-gap measure.
Could this lead to other social media sites being banned as well?
probably, which is exactly why my instinct is to oppose it. I'm going to leave the detailed explanations to the links in my previous post though.
Will more and more countries ban TikTok, considering India, Somalia, Afghanistan, etc. already have banned it?
that's what we've been seeing so far with the partial bans, yes. once larger countries start cracking down on it, others tend to follow.
for funsies, here are the countries that have banned TikTok, partially or fully, as of now:
Afghanistan (total ban)
Australia (partial ban; government owned or issued devices)
Austria (partial ban; government owned or issued devices)
Azerbaijan (temporary ban)
Bangladesh (total ban)
Belgium (partial ban; government owned or issued devices)
Canada (partial ban; government owned or issued devices)
China (mainland) (total ban)
Denmark (partial ban; Defense Ministry owned or issued devices)
Estonia (partial ban; government owned or issued devices for gov officials)
EU Institutions (partial ban; staff devices)
France (partial ban; government owned or issued devices for civil servants)
India (total ban)
Ireland (partial ban; public sector devices)
Jordan (temporary ban)
Kyrgyzstan (total ban)
Latvia (partial ban; official foreign ministry smartphones)
Malta (partial ban; government owned devices unless the user has a ‘Standards Plus’ internet package)
Nepal (total ban)
the Netherlands (partial ban; government owned or issued work phones)
New Zealand (partial ban; on phones of gov lawmakers only)
Norway (partial ban; government owned or issued work phones)
Pakistan (temporary ban, like four different times)
Senegal (total ban)
Somalia (total ban)
Taiwan (partial ban; public sector devices)
the UK (partial ban; work devices for gov ministers and civil servants)
the US (partial ban; 39 states and the federal gov have banned it on government owned or issues devices)
if you're wondering, China is bitching about the current bill in Congress and the hypocrisy of the arguments they're using is hilarious. sorry, I'm just. Wang Wenbin's comments are especially funny.
Wang Wenbin: This bill adopted by the US House of Representatives puts the US on the opposite side of the principles of fair competition and international trade rules. If the so-called “national security” can be cited at will to bring down other countries’ competitive companies, there would be no fairness or justice to speak of. It is sheer robbers’ logic to try every means to snatch from others all the good things that they have. How the US has handled the TikTok incident enables the world to see clearly whether the US’s so-called “rules” and “order” serve the whole world or the US itself.
lol. lmao even
the press conference notably included this exchange as well.
AFP: I have another question on TikTok. The Chinese mainland has banned YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. What is the difference between this and the US ban on TikTok? Wang Wenbin: We welcome foreign platforms and services of various kinds to the Chinese market on the premise that they observe China’s laws and regulations. This is completely different from the US way of handling TikTok, which is clearly a bullying act and robbers’ logic.
straight up we can do it but you can't, and that is hilariously funny to me.
Follow up to the last one, will the Chinese government try to introduce another social media site if TikTok is banned in many countries?
I don't think the PRC would actively launch another platform, no; I don't have any reason to think TikTok was started as a government psyop for the express purpose of pushing Chinese state interests, so I don't have reason to think they'd do something like that to replace TikTok. I think it's a lot more likely they'd just shift their resources onto other social media platforms, Chinese-owned or not. maybe they'd support companies they think might have a chance at getting popular.
(forgive me for the lack of sources on the country bans; I had to go searching to confirm each country and I... don't wanna go back and get them rn ngl. you can google them and find them easily though)

Hermits as eurovision songs two (2), this time beyond the borders of Norway
i continue to be very behind but alas, eurovision, my beloved, it is her season
Keralis - Poland 2014
youtube
look me in the eyes and say keralis does not fit the infamous slutty Polish milkmaid song. mr my mama says I have a lovely face, with shake what your mama gave you, clap your hands to this music. keralis core. he's even got the braids
Iskall - Sweden 1984
youtube
This song is about wearing your nice gold boots. And what I love about iskall is he loves to sing silly little songs about things. diggiloo diggiley he's got good boots and this song won Eurovision :))
Bdubs - Iceland 2006
youtube
This troll song is iconic. Silvia Night is not real. She's an Icelandic comedian who went to Eurovision to see how many people she would wind up. This character is an icon. I love her. Bdubs could and would go to Eurovision as God's specialist little guy
Tango - Moldova 2011
youtube
this song is about playing your funky music, wearing your silly hat, riding your unicycle and having a good time. the music has the dark intensity of the decked out dungeon but the tone is as bright and funny as the dungeon master flying headfirst into a wall and making tango noises
Scar - Estonia 2011
youtube
Oh yea, that's right. This song is a Eurovision song. Always celebrate a good time. She's doing magic tricks on stage as she sings. It's so impressive and it's so fun. That city is hers to control. Scar is just so good at what he does, and he's such a showman.
Rendog - Latvia 2022
youtube
It's been said before, I'll say it again. This song is definitely about being eco friendly :)) eat your veggies, save the planet (been green is sexy as...)
Mumbo - France 2014
youtube
This came last, but I love it. It's a silly little song about having a moustache. He's a silly little guy with a moustache. They both make me happy.
Doc - Germany 2021
youtube
Sorry I'm losing my mind imaging doc with this. It's just so funny to me. I love this song (it got no televote points). People hated it so much. Get on the stage, easily angered German creeper, dance for me
Zedaph - Latvia 2014
youtube
the chilliest song about doing the most unhinged things. they've found Atlantis and reversed gravity, but now they have to bake a cake. how do you do that, again? for today's zedvancement we'll figure it out (tango irl could surely help)
Joe and Cleo - Romania 2017
youtube
Joe's on the yodelling, Cleo's on the rap (begrudging). It's got death note opening pillars. It's got meme vibes. This thing is iconic and I love it. Yodel rap is its own special genre of Eurovision and nobody else can dream of understanding it. Very beautiful. Very powerful. Joe and Cleo

maybe I'm still salty about Germany getting last place so now you'll have to deal with the stats from this article by esc kompakt
Sorry, my English might be a bit wobbly here but we move
Order of the countries on the lists (translation): Albania, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Greece, Island, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom
The jury vote:
Tumblr media
Yes, lord of the lost really didn't do too well here BUT they only ended up on the last place in two countries... (Latvia & Malta) overall they are kinda in the lower middle I'd say, definitely didn't do so well but that was expected I guess (I am a little disappointed by Finland tho, shouldn't you like metal/rock guys? 😔)
Anyway on to the brighter side of this...
The televote:
Tumblr media
Yes, yes, I know how the voting system for Eurovision works. Can we still talk about this?? The audience liked Lord of the Lost! Yes, they only got actual points from Switzerland, Austria and Finland, but looking at this the last place really wasn't deserved... Germany would be somewhere in the middle according to this and definitely not last place.
I know this happens often and it's due to the voting system but it bothers me, especially because Lord of the Lost are facing quite some backlash and hate since Eurovision for "embarrassing the country", "being a huge flop", "being shitty musicians", etc (oh and of course a bunch of homophobic comments as always and some other things that are so, so, SO wrong, I don't even wanna talk about it).
Anyway, rant over.
Last stats are the ranking Germany (and everyone else) would have had according to the numbers above and how it differs from the actual ranking during the show (Jury left, televote right; -x meaning being x ranks further down in the final's results (show) / +x meaning x ranks better in the final's results (show))
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(translation left to right: country, mean value by rank, ranking/place by rank, ranking/place by points, difference)

I make really good apple pie. I have a recipe that I learned from my mom she learned it from her mom, who learned it from her mom. It's an ancestral thing, and I tweaked it a little bit and made it even better. Everybody who tries it loves it. But what I finally wrote down the recipe on paper, my mom made me promise that I would never tell it to anyone who wasn't family.
"You can teach your spouse. Or your kids. Or your sisters kids if she ever has any. This is a family Secret."
A few Thanksgivings ago, I was helping a woman with some wine purchases, and she asked "do you do anything special with your kids for Thanksgiving?" And I just kind of spaced out for a second and then told her I don't have any kids and she said "oh I'm sorry.. I don't know why I assumed you had kids. Just never occurred to me that you and your partner didn't have a kids."
Never mind the fact that I had been single for the last 4 years at this point. But it got me feeling pretty down. I clocked out for lunch early and locked myself in an office and cried.
My friend, who I secretly had a huge crush on and had seriously intense lesbian aura that lots of gay women picked up on, came and found me and asked what was wrong.
"Oh just... the holidays make me think about all the things I don't or can't have. I don't have family I want to spend Thanksgiving with. I dont have anyone at home waiting for me to come home tonight. I don't have a daughter to teach my apple pie recipe to."
She says "you can teach me?"
"No, I already told you, my mom made me swear I could only teach it to my spouse or my children."
"I know," she said, and started rubbing my back, "and someday I'll be making pies for you."
I was speechless. She spent the rest of the holiday season talking about all the things we were going to do... she was going to take me to Latvia to see her home town. She wanted me to go to Paris with her. She helped me get my legal documents squared away so i could get my passport. We went on long walks in the snow together at midnight. We held hands on the swings in the park. She flirted with me openly and obviously in front of her friends, made sure to tell people I was hers.
Nothing had a label. Nothing was ever put into clear terms. She leaned in to kiss me o mnce and then didn't, but that was it. Finally, it had gone on too long and I had to talk to her about it directly. I talked about how I felt.
She said " I'm sorry, I don't feel that way. I'm sorry I gave you that idea." We didn't talk to each other for 7 months after that. We do hang out sometimes, but we're not particularly close anymore.
My sister will likely die if she tries carrying a pregnancy, and her partner isn't keen on adopting. I havent been in a relationship that survived more than 2-3 dates since 2016. I keep thinking about that apple pie, and how likely it is that the recipe will die with me.
I hate the holidays.

For that character ask, Poland #0
sorry this took so long! I've had a busy weekend 😅
#0 All numbers in the list!
1, what would their social media page/activity be like
A mix of Straight girl and history obsessed white cishet guy.
He has "You have to try this Starbucks secret menu item!!!!" and *inaccurate history meme taken from reddit* right next to each other.
also Christian memes and horse girl memes.
2, What animal they remind me of
a cat actually; like, how dare you ignore him but also how DARE you bother him when he doesn't want to be bothered.
3, my thoughts on their design/aesthetic alone
canon Poland looks like his name is Stephanie and he's a wine mom who says "I'm doing this for my crowns in heaven!" whenever doing a favor for someone.
Fanon Poland Is amazing I love him, we all really went "This man is actually a walking thrift store but in a good way" and it works amazingly on him.
4, physical headcanons
he sleeps with like 7-12 pillows. It drove Liet insane when they were married.
when he's home alone he THROWS every door open looks around suspiciously then makes a mad dash to whatever other room he needs to go to. my guy DOES NOT linger in hallways.
hates knitted stuff on his skin. Can't wear sweaters without a long sleeve shirt under them, loves the knitted crop top look, can't commit to wearing them for more than 5 min.
everyone thinks he's a 17 step morning routine person; his darkest secret is he owns 1 watered down face wash and uses 3 in 1 shampoo, conditioner, body wash.
5, Social Headcanons
The Friend Group(TM) consists of Lithuania, Latvia, Prussia, Estonia, Hungary, Finland, Czechia, Slovakia, and Belarus.
"If we're gonna go out we should get the whole group together!!"
individually;
Lithuania: The Ex Husband, the boyfriend, the mom friend he's literally a 3 in 1, it's great. LietPol is one of my "Soulmates in more than 1 flavor," examples, they're stuck together. Whether it's romantic, platonic, or somethign you need a whole fic to explain.
Latvia: The little brother that tags along so much you accidentally become friends with him too. Feliks loves Raivis, they're buddies. They 100% sincerely pray for each other, like "Hey this is happening, could you pray for me?" "Of course <3"
Prussia: The former enemy. They're friends now but Feliks is still super snarky to him. "I'll pray for you <3" but condescending and unsolicited. They fuck sometimes ngl.
Estonia: Feliks takes one look at Kalev and just!!! Look at this little nerd!!! He needs friends!! I'll take pity on him and be his friend!!! Feliks is just as nerdy and knows it, but like,,, still calls Kalev a nerd, lovingly ofc.
Hungary: THE RIDE OR DIE. The shared experience of being genderqueer and horse girls. Feliks would die for Erzí, Erzsébet would die for Feliks. They complain and brag about their bf's and Erzí talks about his kids while Feliks (depending on the day) cements himself further into "I'm never having kids" or "I want a baby so badly :(((((("
Finland: Feliks straight up does not remember becoming friends with Kasper. He just knows one day Kasper tagged along with Kalev and Erzí and then they became friends? Tbh more than anything is just "Erzí and Kalev's little brother"
Czechia: his relationship with Adéla can be summed up in "I wouldn't take a bullet for you bc If I have time to jump in front of it you have time to move" but like, he would actually take a bullet for her. Tbh they really only hang out at like 3 am when drunk.
Slovakia: i... don't actually have hc on them yet.
Belarus: Feliks is actually 2 seconds away from adopting Natalya. He's gonna be her new dad and he's going to raise her right. Feliks relationship with Natalya is really complicated, but he does really feel bad for her and has moments of "I could save her from everything probably"
Psychologic headcanons
Has to be surrounded by people at all times. He has 'safety in numbers' drilled into his subconscious.
has APD, It made learning to read really hard, and like you can't talk to him in a noisy room bc your voice and that fork clinking on the plate over there are the same sound sorry :\
has nightmares so often he started taking nyquill every night so he sleeps through them bc no I don't have time for this.
7, ships with them that I like or at least consider
LietPol, legit did not think about this two until I started following 2 specific people I will let you all guess who they are.
PruPol, i have to be a specific angsty/slap-hCppy mood to enjoy it tho.
8, Made up connections with other characters that weren't in canon
I think I accidentally answered this one with #5
9, Headcanons about their past
Feliks is one of the few nations to have both human parents (Japan is one of the others I have rn) he was only a few months old physically when his father died, and 2-ish when his mother died.
They didn't throw him out. After their parents died, his younger brother (a human) took him. Generation after generation they took care of this little mystical being.
Most nations born to humans are thrown out as curses. Feliks' family called him a blessing, some family members even claimed he was their guardian angel.
Generation after generation they took care of him, they loved him so much.
A tragedy struck, they all died. He buried them all himself. He laid next to the graves and cried for days, he begged God to kill him.
He was only physically eleven years old.
He didn't know what he was, but he had bought into the guardian angel thing. He thought he had failed. Eventually he got up and moved on, he left just wandering...
Then he met Liet... found out he wasn't alone.
10, Content about them I'd like to see more of
tbh more platonic PolHun, I love them <3

Semifinal 1 thoughts:
- Norway really butchered the vocals. I'm sorry, but that was a hideous performance
- Loreen's timing was also off. Not sure what was up with that, hopefully just a technical issue
- Malta killed it and deserved to get through
- So glad Moldova and Portugal are through. I really enjoyed them and I wasn't sure they'd make it
- Ireland were serving cunt but not in a good way
- That key change for the Netherlands ruined their song rip
- I was scared for Serbia for a second, so glad they made it as they deserve
- Let 3 kings 👑
- Czechia are... Fine. They need better breath control
- Speaking of performances that really dropped the ball vocally, Israel. Also, what's with all the wide shots during the dance? It's the good part of the song, let us see her
- I have nothing to say about Finland that hasn't already been said. CHA CHA CHA BABY
- I hope France performs better in the final because that clip was shaky
- I don't understand Italy's trampolines. What do they add. The song and the performance are solid without them. Why are they there
- Germany good
- Switzerland is tone deaf. I'm sorry, real people are dying in Ukraine right now, people who didn't get a choice in the matter, and some whiny manbaby from the most notoriously "not getting involved" country whinges about how he doesn't want to be a soldier. Guess what, bitch? You won't! Shut up and sit down and let the adults (Let 3) talk. The song and performance weren't even that good. Who voted for this I just wanna talk. I will be booing him in the hall on Saturday and I hope he trips and falls mid performance :)
- Latvia you were the second best performance of the night and you were robbed I'm so sorry. I would have voted for you if I could. Why didn't you get through

Are you indiginous Russian, or etnic Russian? I'm asking this because I'm confused. If the former, then I understand. It's a shame Russians killed a lot of those tribes (a lot went extinct). But if the later, then I don't understand. You are now not part of a group, culture, and country that doas not view women as people, is about only vailenc in every form of it (phisical, mental, emotional, sexual, ect).
I mean Russians view wife beating as a form of love to the point that women who abendond it, and got together with non Russian men, were questioning if they partners loved them dou to them not beating them. Just look at Russia's domastic vailenc statistics, or how they say "It's a family value" about it. Or how there are up and running websites there, where they dox people who live there and part of the Lgbtq community, in hopes that they will get killed for it. Or what are they doing in Ukraine, and in the countries they went to. In Georgia Russians are openly fetishes the locals, whaile taking resorces away from them. Ask people from Ukraine, Poland, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania, or from any country that Russia has a history with. They will tell you the truth, and that really nothing good, or usefull, or worthy come out of that country, that culture, and those people seince the Russian revolution.
Sorry if I sound rude, but I just don't get it, why someone would be proud of it, and call themself that.
I'm both. My mother is Russian & my father is Chuvash. I have never been ashamed of my Russian family & I never will be. Being ashamed of it & pretending it doesn't exist won't magically make the bad parts dissappear. I simultaneously have a deep love for Russia's rich culture & history while not ignoring the suffering & wrong that's happened along the way (& is still happening). Holding both truths at the same time is possible regardless if people believe it or not. In my humble opinion, holding both truths & acknowledging the ugly parts of one's history is necessary for genuine healing, progression & a complete sense of self. But of course, that doesn't mean we endorse those horrible things. We should use them as a blueprint to do better in the present & future. That's all any of us can do.
These days it seems like so many people can't see outside of this Black vs. White polarizing way of thinking. It honestly drives me insane.
There's not a single country that hasn't committed atrocities in it's past. There's not a single person alive who's ancestors haven't done some fucked up shit. Are you sending these types of messages to Japanese people? They were committing some pretty horrific war crimes back during ww2 like The Rape Of Nanjing. What about Germans? They were genociding Jews, Slavs & Romani. What about the Dutch? They killed a fuck ton of the Lenape people when founding New Amsterdam (now known as New York City). Wait what about the various tribes in Africa that have been at war with each other since time immemorial? Ever heard of the Volhynia Massacre where Ukrainians slaughtered & raped Poles? What about Turks? Mongolians? Chinese? Indians? Need I go on? Are all people everywhere supposed to hate themselves? Or is it just Russians who are expected to perform this masochistic self-flagellation to appease random people on the internet?
Take a long hard look at your own history before pointing fingers at others. You're bound to find a skeleton or 2 in your own closet that you're not proud of.

Running order thoughts below!
SEMIFINAL 1
Cyprus is...kinda bye I guess...
I know Serbia was given the 2nd spot but I can still see it comfortably qualifying, there's no way it won't with both Croatia and Slovenia voting in this semifinal.
Lithuania 3rd...........no comment. I know he's one of the main faves of this semifinal and will still qualify comfortably because of that but come on, 3rd?? 😭
Mmmm I don't know if I should be worried for Ireland, 4th is a pretty risky spot (and gave me huge Latvia 2023 flashbacks) but it's kinda being preceded by UK? Who isn't that hyped from what I've seen...but also Ukraine is after and might get all the attention from literally anyone who's around their spot?? Prayer circle for Ireland...
Poland is also sandwiched between two big faves, Ukraine and Croatia...that might hurt them a bit, I don't know...
Slovenia has a good draw I think. I think she will also qualify. Plus being helped by Croatia and Serbia.
Ok, beautiful to see how they just basically boosted Luxembourg's chances to the stratosphere, I definitely see them qualifying now.
SEMIFINAL 2
oOOOF Malta...being 1st idk what to say...
Albania DOA 100%
SWITZERLAND TF IS THAT SPOT?? Look how they massacred my Switzerland...but judging how liked this is I have faith that this will qualify, it's like one of the biggest favorites of this semi right?? Also Greece
Mmmm Czechia between fan fave Switzerland and semi fan fave France, I don't have a good feeling about this.
I had this eerie feeling that after Czechia we'd get Austria AND IT GOT CONFIRMED FFS ofc they're giving the best spot for Austria like being after an unpopular entry bcs she fan faaaaveee~~~ 🤪💅👌💥✨️ slay guuurl- okay enough with the shitty fanwank impression, moving on
Denmark imo has a pretty good spot?? MIGHT get a bit hurt from Austria but...Also Armenia seems to be good.
...Latvia I'm so sorry honey...EBU tf you doing, this is literally the shittiest placement for them, they had the entire 2nd half for them to give, and EBU chose 9th.
San Marino not 11th?? Blasphemy.
Mmm Georgia before Belgium might not be that good...but also Georgia is after 2 unpopular entries so who knows...
Estonia 13th...ok
I was worried that Isr might be given the last spot which would help them a lot but the fact that they're literally after 2(3?) big entries this year (Belgium, Estonia and Italy who's from Big5) might not help them that much. But knowing how many supporters they have...I really don't know what to expect. I still hope for an NQ.
NORWAY 15th!!! What a great placement for them!! Also succeeds Isr which helps them a lot, I'm the most happy with their spot tbh!
Netherlands also, best spot. Congrats to them
Okay, I'm going to write my predictions here, after the running order. Will most likely change after the preparties or rehearsals, but here they are:
SEMIFINAL 1
Q(1ST-3RD): Ukraine, Croatia, Lithuania
Q(4TH-7TH): Serbia, Slovenia, Finland, Portugal
BORDERLINE(8TH-12TH): Ireland, Poland, Moldova, Australia, Luxembourg

SEMIFINAL 2

BORDERLINE(8TH-12TH): Denmark, Armenia, San Marino, Georgia, Israel

another rtc eurovision post (i'm so sorry for my brainrot y'all) with me associating a song for each character
fair warning, this is *LONG*, so i'd suggest scrolling past if you don't really like long posts :)
i don't think that anyone pre-canon would've watched it but, you know, post-canon everyone lives au, afterlife, take your pick either works!!!
mischa: as previously stated, stefania by kalush orchestra (ukraine 2022) is his top of all time. wikipedia describes its genre as "alternative hip hop and folk" which is basically this song is awesome/talia. it being a tribute to the frontman's mother also deeply resonates with him, missing his own mother. other favourites include soldi (italy 2019), dark side (finland 2021), lie to me (czech republic 2018) and kuula (estonia 2012) because... in addition he loves everything ukraine's sent (aside from 2012. imagine being able to have pride and audience support for practically every entry from your country). he just finds so much enjoyment and nostalgia in it (ie me projecting onto my fave). he was so surprised when noel knew about it and that he had a buddy in this uranium hellhole to chat about it. has a crush on alexander rybak (norway 2009) and chanel (spain 2022). he still does not realise he is bisexual. he starts a betting pool with the choir for each new contest (and all the ones only he and noel have seen. the two get sad at first that they can't participate with those ones, but then decide to fuck with them)
noel: his winner of 2022 was in corpore sano (serbia) for The Drama and The Art, but he also supported fulenn because france (the man was so disappointed when they got second last). his all time favourite is l'enfer et moi (france 2013), because frenchwoman singing about how she would make her ex's life hell meant that he could graft on his dreams to that. because he's canadian i don't think he grew up with it like mischa, i think that he went down a youtube rabbithole when the march he turned 14 somehow or other and fell in love. he loves all the songs like n'oubliez pas (france 2015), voila (france 2019), tout l'univers (switzerland 2019), and bonds with mischa over zitti e buoni (italy 2021 who am i kidding everyone knows måneskin, thanks to @curious-georg for that idea!!!). sometimes he puts on playlists of the earlier competitions while he's studying to imagine a morning in france. has a crush on half the male entrants.
i haven't thought through how the rest of the choir gets exposed to it because it's pretty much a "after canon once they're friends, wherever they are, au or not i don't know". but basically i have a feeling that one time on movie night it's mischa's turn and he brings along the 2021 contest (because it's one of the best of the most recent and the hosts are so good) and noel goes BATSHIT and everyone else is just like "hey... what?? this is four hours long" and then it starts and they end up really enjoying it, with them going through all the contests (sometimes on mischa's night, sometimes on noel's, a couple for constance's too) and watching them live (because i said so)
ricky: they love the entries that are just a lil quirky. a lil different. their favourite from 2022 was eat your salad (latvia), mainly because the audience *screamed* out "PUSSY" to fight the censors (eurovision is a family friendly competition). the peak songs for them were at the start of semi 1 and then it all went downhill from there. and their goat? space (montenegro 2017). if you haven't seen that video, bestie, you should. they really do watch it for the memes, epic sax guy (run away aka moldova 2010), anti-crisis girl (ukraine 2009), "but in the end, they didn't" (the 2019 host talking to that year's cypriot contestant about cyprus coming in second in 2018).
constance: her 2022 winners were not the same (australia) and i am what i am (malta) because she loves the expression of the internal self and hearing peoples' emotions through the melodies. her all time favourites are monsters (finland 2018) and cry no more (netherlands 2017) because of how both are personal, one is upbeat in its self-empowerment, while the other is about familial love and support. she relates to and desires both. otherwise, anything with a gay kiss. she screamed at the full-on makeout session that occurred during this time (lithuania 2015). and marry me (finland 2013) made her VERY happy for that kiss at the end. even then, it takes her a while to realise she is Not Straight.
ocean: her 2022 winner was hold me closer (sweden), then river (poland) because it genuinely moved her, then die together (greece). she hates I.M (israel) with a burning passion, and everyone except her sees the irony in that. from other years she loves last dance (greece 2021), only teardrops (denmark 2013), popular (sweden 2011), lipstick (ireland 2011) and euphoria (sweden 2012). she has a spreadsheet ranking her placements for each year they watch, as well as the rest of the choir, and uses that to predict the results of the betting pool mischa started. sweden and greece are in her top five every year. she put if i were sorry as her first place when they were watching the 2016 edition and mischa refuses to talk to her for the rest of the night (this one actually isn't me projecting i just think it'd be funny).
penny/jane: because this idea isn't super-solidified, and her character isn't either, it's hard to know. i think that she's a menace and loves the voice cracks and mistakes (i feel bad if i direct people to certain entries for that!!! but if you know, you Know). the best guess i have is that her favourite 2022 entry is miss you (belgium) because of the religious allegory and shifting genres (like in the ballad of jane doe), but i will take suggestions!!
this was a really long post, thanks for sticking around if you got this far!
