im aware i probably write a softer version of qui gon. but i use the films as my base and pick and choose other bits of canon i vibe with. and yeah qui gon is kinda an asshole (affectionate) but i've seen whole essays about how he's some abusive asshole and based on the character we see in tpm that doesn't make sense to me

#like yeah he can be a smart ass #but in the movie he's so understanding #like whenever he talks to ani that man gets down and is eye level with him #the man is 6'3" he's a tree for no reason #and yeah he made the poor choice of voicing obi wan was ready for the trials when he did. that could have been handled better #which people love to bring this up #but i feel like people forget obi wan was 25 at that point #and anakin was 9 and a newly freed slave #since the council wasn't going to take him qui gon didn't really have a choice but to say he would teach him #LIKE WHERE ELSE WAS HE GOING TO GO? Current Book I'm Reading: OK, so the first thing you need to know about me is that I'm a fully institutionalized academic, and although I've (THANKFULLY) left that world behind, I. CAN'T FOR. THE. LIFE. OF. ME. stop reading like an academic. I haven't been able to read fiction in over a year. The only genre outside of non-fiction that I still seem to be able to connect with is horror. And not like ghosts in your attic horror. Obscure, weird-as-fuck horror. Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman & Monstrilio by Gerardo Sámano Córdova horror (which are both excellent books, by the way). But that wasn't the question, was it? The question was: what am I reading now. Well, (oh god) I've been digging into The Last Man Takes LSD: Foucault and the End of Revolution by Mitchell Dean & Daniel Zamora, which sounds a whole lot more trippy than it actually is. Mainly, I'm interested because the authors point out that Foucault's late philosophy, his so-called 'ethical turn' towards an 'aesthetics of existence', was inspired by a trip he took to California (and the upper reaches of the universe). Since I wrote my MA dissertation on this exact topic (the ethical turn, not the LSD), I thought it might come in handy for future articles...

Last Song I Listened To: Bastille & Hans Zimmer's new cover of Bastille's Pompeii, Pompeii MMXXIII (recommended by a friend). Before that, I was listening to a 'British Folk/Weird Folk/Horror Folk' playlist on Spotify which was pretty interesting... Actually, it reminded me of being a child in the English countryside, stuffing my face with berries by the side of the road and then going to the new-age shop in the village to listen to whale-song CDs, touch magic gemstones, and smell incense sticks. Very hippie.

Currently Watching: The Servant on Apple TV (is the baby real or not!? It's driving me crazy); Foundation on Apple TV (and I swear it's not because Jared Harris is in it or Lee Pace wears chainmail crop-tops. I swear!); and... The News? Does the news count? I watch a lot of 'the news' now. Actually, I can't stop watching... It's been quite sad and terrible lately...

Current Fic I'm Reading: Sorry, I don't read fics! I know it's blasphemy. Believe me, no one is more disgusted with me than I am. But yeah, there you go... Never been my thing, really. Nothing against it.

Next On My Watch List: the upcoming Napoleon movie featuring Joaquin Phoenix; Killers of the Flower Moon; anything A23 produces anytime; Priscilla by Sofia Coppola (which is A23 also so, you know, naturally); and I'll probably re-watch The Green Knight for Christmas (it is a Christmas movie, after all).

Current Obsession: My WIP, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, which you can check out on my writeblr side-blog (@thesorcerersapprentice) has been my main obsession for the past -what?- four years? More or less? I really feel like until I've written this thing, gotten it out of me, I won't be able to write anything else. It just won't leave me alone. I can't think around it; I always end up coming back. It's a story I fundamentally, deep down in my bones, need to write. So it's my obsession: today, tomorrow, and always, right up until the day it's done.

Last Thing I Wrote: my BFA dissertation? Pfffft-! But besides that, creative writing-wise i used to write a lot of drabbles based on my OC's and the world I built for them. I have like 4 spiral-bound notebooks on worldbuilding, magic systems, and characters for it that I haven't done anything with.

Currently Writing: planning a steadily evolving project that is TBA and is for sure HP related *wink-wonk*. Not really writing beyond notes and adlibs as it's a collab.

Phew that was a lot I am so wordy gosh!

3 Random Facts About Me

Thank you for the tag @da-rulah ♡

I'm currently working on my PhD dissertation. I started in September and I'm sort of hating it lol. Academia on that level is just a bigoted and superficial hellscape but I told myself to at least try and make use of the chance I got to stay at uni, especially because I love working with students.

I've been writing fic since I was ~12. I used to write in pencil in a notepad for some friends to read and it was already self-insert fiction where I literally put our names into the story and just added characters from all sorts of fandoms we were into. Started with a Pokémon Diamond retelling, fully illustrated with drawings, and an Evil Dead inspired zombie apocalypse story where we met and fell in love with random characters that somehow landed in that world. I then started writing fic in English in 2016 when I made this blog. One of my first long fics in a fandom I won't name that I published on Wattpad has almost 500k views there and I regularly get death threats in the comments on one chapter because I "killed" off the main character lol.

I broke into our own house once because I locked myself out. I used a tilted window (we can do that here), an old string and an empty toilet roll from the trash to fully open the window and then crawled inside. Took me three tries.

so, now that tcb is done im working on the dinner fic (i'll tag it below so you can see some of the conversation surrounding that) and i was supposed to be taking a break while i write my dissertation ,, but i couldn't do that and i'm currently 2 chapters into a gone girl bartylus au (it's just a silly little thing that takes me .02358 seconds to write that u can read here if u'd like)

those are the two most pressing things on the docket (the dinner fic probably won't be out until autumn or winter tbh) anything after that is anyone's guess!!

i've got some wack-ass texas town bartylus endgame jegulus murder that's just essentially my love letter to texas floating around in the docs, a dorlene eurydice situation that shouldn't be anything more than 2-3 chapters,, the secret history-esque fic but instead of being pretentious greek students they're pretentious art history students (never not writing about art tbh),,, just whatever strikes my fancy !

I HAVE NEVER BEEN ASKED ABOUT HEADCANONS I'M GOING TO THROW MYSELF INTO A VOLCANO

honestly, i don't know that i've got anything special up in the old bargain bucket. i was writing something silly the other day for my own entertainment with eclipse on for background noise and it did sort of slip in that -- and this is as close to controversial as it gets, i know; hold onto yer butts -- i don't think akk's neat? as in tidy. he's organised, sure, but i think his tendency to be a messy bitch extends beyond his personality.

this is a very, very tiny thing okay but go with me on this.

Edit, four hours later: ...apparently it's not a tiny thing. I have had to put a read more because now I've added pictures. Apparently I really do have thoughts.

I think I think of this as a headcanon because a lot of fandom portrayal has Akk as this ruthlessly neat Type A and Ayan as cheerfully messy... but I'm about to insist that this is not, in fact, headcanon: it's canon. I brought receipts.

(I'm kidding but pls nobody bother telling me I'm wrong <3 respectfully, i won't believe u <3)

So over the course of the show we see both Akk and Ayan's bedrooms, right? Prior to the show even beginning, these are rooms they've presumably inhabited for quite some time. There is a whole thing we could get into about their respective economical backgrounds and what the set dressing decor says in regards to that, but I'm not gonna. Not today, at least.

Aside from that and the fact that I have a running joke in my head that Ayan lives in a hotel room in his own home (there's another tangent here about the parallel of ayan not having "roots"/a true home/a "space" but I am trying not to write a dissertation here) - they're teenage boys, right?

However,

FIGS 1.1-1.4: Ayan's bedroom.

Ayan's bedroom has nothing in it. Other than his dead uncle, some Alien urn lamps and a whole lotta beige (potential tangent number 590384: characters and their typical/home surrounding's colouring -- Ayan in golds and brown tones; Kan and Thua surrounded in white; Akk and a whole bunch of blues until he goes home and we see his blues meet Ayan's golds, etc etc -- which i'm sure someone's already done).

Now, it's possible that this is because he and Patcharaporn have someone who comes in to do housework, but even if that were the case, you'd still expect some sort of reflection of it being a teenage boy who inhabits that room... but there's nothing. Yes, I'm aware that this is The Thai BL House, but set dressing isn't something that would be outside the realm of possibility entirely. The most you ever see of Ayan in his room is when he's getting all Conspiracy Cork Board and there are just piles of dictionaries on his desk, or when he's sitting around reading dystopic speculative fiction. A single dystopic speculative fiction book. There are no others.

Come on, Aye.

I could write essays about Ayan Sukkhaphisit and loneliness. Essays.

But this is not that day.

FIGS 2.1-2.4: Akk's dorm room.

Ignoring the fact that there are obvious differences due to Akk's being a dorm and Ayan's being a single room in a house, Akk's room is by contrast overflowing with Akk. Akk has crafted his dorm to reflect himself.

Or rather, to reflect the image he wants to portray, but there are little pieces of him everywhere.

(I'm sure there's meaning in the spoon print, I just don't know what it is yet. The spoon canvas, truly more than anything in Akk's room, Sends. Me.)

There are books everywhere - light sources (tangent 4012432: all of Akk's light sources are caged in some way), knick-knacks that speak to a character with far more to him than he presents to the world, a calendar that never changes from September 3rd.

I think Akk is neat out of necessity, out of maintaining his image; I think Ayan is neat out of never having anywhere to really have stuff. I think, if canon were to progress, we'd see Akk relax even further into his space because it's the only place he can be careless and Ayan begin to be unafraid to actually take up some space.

(Tangent 6535423420: all of Ayan's personality is on him, at all times - the necklace, the hoody: his home is himself. In many ways, while Ayan is a cocky little shit, he's potentially the more deeply insecure.)

(Tangent and class discussion topic 22871342: is Ayan's room being borderline sterile a way of showing that Ayan himself is exactly how he appears to everyone - in that, he has nothing to hide? Compare with Akk's ruthless self control and dogmatic need to be perceived as perfect contrasting with how unsterile his home is.)

(Tangent 900122156: The first time we see Ayan begin to truly inhabit a space is when he and Akk are placing photos of him and his mother in Akk's room)

I'm not getting started on Akk's bedroom at his parents' house because 1. it's a boat cabin, and 2. I have to go eat something, lmao. But, for posterity, I guess:

I leave it to you guys to note the multiple and varied light sources (there's still a caged light!), light streaming in from several billion windows, the storage/units brimming with things on or in them, the same dang blue mug from his dorm, the bathroom door wide open to show the mirror and thus adding more light.

(Tangent 123019242222...: Akk standing at the stern/wheel in his bedroom as the above interaction begins and what it means about his need for control while Ayan's mere presence lures him away)

(Additional thought added an hour after I posted this because it was in my head when I started answering this and then it disappeared and then I was brushing my teeth and it's back for some reason so: I think there's part of Akk that actively revels in mess/chaos. Something about him being so externally orderly, something about Ayan throwing his world into chaos and that being what draws him to Ayan, something something something, going to finish brushing my teeth.)

I don't have any solid plans over summer, but my book chapter for Bloomsbury is due at the end of July which is making me scaaared (have not felt this panic since my MA dissertation). Other than that, I'm just chipping away at Skywind and hopefully reopening the Tastes of Tamriel ask box for more worldbuilding. Also, recipes.

I will never stop shilling Ville Valo's solo album, Neon Noir (2023). Even if you aren't a HIM fan, you should listen to it anyway. Absolute perfection.

5) Share one piece of advice!

Be absolutely relentless if you're serious about following your dreams. Usually, where there's a will, there's a way. Some people have it easier than others, as with all things in life, but lying about all day daydreaming while putting in zero effort won't really manifest anything. Unless you combine it with a blood sacrifice to Odin, which I did, but do not recommend to anyone else. Yes, I'm serious. (I work my ass off and this is what I get.)

I am new to the fandom and I hope this doesn't come across as rude but why do you still believe Louis and harry are in a monogamous relationship for the past 12 years when it definitely doesn't make sense. Harry has multiple times stated he doesn't label his sexuality and 95% of his fanbase know he is not straight(medicine being the biggest proof). So he is not in closet per se. But he has also confirmed sleeping with women(WS is about orgasm,cinema is about sleeping with a woman, even Carolina mentions sleeping with townes).And if they were so in love why wouldn't they come out?Louis' fanbase consists 90% larries and rest will support him.Outside fandom he is not that famous (this is not an insult, I was part of gp untill like 5 wks ago.)So it definitely won't affect their career that much. Even if it did,why would they choose to fake a baby and gf rather than come out and deal with whatever comes after?Afterall they have been in love for years right?Are they that fame hungry ?Also it is illegal to closet people in both uk and us and noone has faked a baby for closetting. Also louis' son looks so much like him and has a birth certificate with louis as father. It is impossible to fake it and why would anyone do that if they want to come out anyway?I hope this isn't rude I am genuinely curious

Hi sugar. Welcome to the fandom. I understand you just joined the fandom 5 weeks ago, but you’re asking a barrage of questions that would require me writing an endless dissertation in order to answer. I suggest you find some blogs that have a good tagging system and do some research before sending messages like this. Most, if not all, of what you’re wondering about would be answered that way without asking someone rise to do the work for you.

@skepticalarrie and @daisiesonafield-blog are both really organized and I tend to agree with what they post. So I’d start with them. From there you can see who they’re reblogging from and what those people’s opinions are. Take your time. There is 12 years of documentation to go through. You don’t have to know everything 5 weeks in.

Fic Origin Story

What was your first fandom (reading and/or writing)?

The Rent fandom was my very first exposure to fic, both reading and writing. I was thirteen? Idk. A teenager, definitely. I think some of my Mark/Roger fics are still on ff.net, unfortunately. Including a preschool au because there's something wrong with me.

What was the first story you ever wrote (even if it was never posted) and what made you decide to write it?

First story ever? God, I have no idea. My primary hobby as a child was making up stories. If any of my fellow old millennials remember Storybook Weaver, that was my favorite computer "game". I used to read my stories during show and tell (and several members of the class would fight over the bathroom pass so they wouldn't have to stay and listen). I do remember writing a story about dogs who go into space and fight aliens. I also wrote a story about a second Titanic that was also supposed to be unsinkable that also sank. It was...special.

My first fic was a Mark/Roger multi-chapter fic that's apparently 11k words and the only description I felt necessary to put in was "very angsty, slightly morbid" (thanks to ff.net's lack of a tagging system) and I will not be re-reading it to try to remember what it's actually about. I apparently started posting it more than 20 years ago so I have literally no idea what made me decide to write it.

My first SC fic was Persistence of Memory which I wrote in October 2021. I was writing my dissertation and struggling with some mental health stuff, and I had a dream about David and decided I needed to poke and prod at his anxiety for a bit.

What’s a piece of advice you would give to your younger fic-writing self?

It doesn't have to all be angst. It's FINE to let your characters be happy. Please get some therapy. Also, you're queer.

What’s an early fandom interaction that stuck with you (be it a nice comment, a friend you made, a fic that got a lot of feedback etc.)?

I am still friends with people I met through fandom 20 years ago and I think that's so cool. I felt very alone a lot when I was a teenager, and it was nice to have these online friends with shared interests. They weren't quite pocket friends because I didn't have a cell phone, much less a smartphone, but it was the same idea, and it meant so much to me.

Post a sentence or two from one of your older fics, and a sentence or two from a newer one (if you want).

Oh boy. Okay. So I'll post a few sentences of my first Rent fic but please remember I was a literal child when I wrote this so please don't judge me too harshly (and no, I won't link it).

Mark stared blankly at the ceiling, slowly running the events of the day through his head. Only slowly, because, really, not much had happened. It had been an annoyingly normal day. He wished something would happen, just something.

And a few lines I wrote last night:

The word ‘queer’ makes a series of complicated emotions that David is not nearly sober enough to interpret march across Patrick’s face, and he tenses briefly, a deeply ingrained fear in him flaring up. But then Patrick goes and says, “Wow, that’s…that sounds incredible, David,” with a kind of reverence and awe that adds several more questions to David’s mental list of things he wants to know about this man.

“We’re having an opening next week, if you’re interested.” The words leave David’s mouth before he can even try to stop them.

backstory + shipping. i have developed a thorough backstory and canon for max , which can be read through here for now. i currently have several verses and timelines to place max in for connections, which can be read through and are detailed here. as for shipping, i am single ship with @gustavos, as portrayed stunningly by tal. max is a ( openly ) gay man, but his world of romance is centered around gus and won't stray from that regardless of verse or timeline. all other dynamics are entirely encouraged and welcome, though!

got tagged by @demandthedoodlesedoodles, thank you! I overshare a lot of my life already, so this is probably nothing new to anyone who knows me long enough lol.

I collect dolls and plushies! I just think they're cute and prefer having like, things, compared to getting fandom clothing.

I mostly wear only dresses and skirts because I absolutely hate pants. This is a trait I carry into my character designs, as most of my ocs wear a dress or skirt of some kind.

I very unfortunately don't have much of a mental filter and this, out of many things, is why I left my last job bc I said one of my managers was once again having a tantrum in front of others lol. Not professional of me, and obviously I'm taking it as a learning experience to uh, not do that again lol, but also I don't really regret it. She was horrible ❤

I've owned 11 cats so far in my life, many of which were just taken off the streets. Free cat ❤

I have way too many dnd setting books intended for DMs when I am fully aware and haveadmitted that I can never run a game because of my attention span. Usually in games I check out for a bit just to rest when we're in combat.

Continuing on with my dnd stuff, I also write way too long notes, and even in my attempts to write summaries instead of back to back what was said, my RP sessions usually take around 10ish minutes to read out. I'm very thankful to my friends that don't seem to mind it lol.

When I was about 5 and in daycare, I punched another child in the face for messing with my food. I have no memory of this, but I guess it wasn't that bad since the teachers were laughing about it when they told my mother about it.

I never went to college, but if I didn't have to pay out the nose for it I would have liked to study anthropology and fashion history. Alas, I will simply have to make do by reading fandom dissertations on tumblr.

The vastness of space ~* terrifies me *~. I can not think of black holes without feeling dread.

I have played every version of the sims, though I started playing when Sims 2 was still the main game, which is probably why I prefer it over the other versions.

noah xie is mixed, white + singaporean-chinese. he's a law school dropout who essentially figured that because he's so into philosophy and poetry and writing huge fuckoff dissertations about a Few Select Opinions that he'd be a great lawyer. unfortunately, he doesn't exactly have the uhh. appropriate ethics for it.

my guy is a huge collector. my tag for him on this tumblr is at cad (as in, ketavinsky.tumblr.com/search/cad, i was kind of calling him cadmium dallas in my head for a while, only because cadmium dallas is for some reason the placeholder name i use for all my prototype RELIGIOUS FREAK ocs, and i'm reluctant to let go of it now that i have the perfect religious freak oc. i'm just gonna say that cadmium dallas is his online alias... it's probably his twitter handle or something) if you're interested to see his aesthetic - i kinda wanna call it trinketcore? he's really into jewellery, embellishing and bedazzling and altering and uhh mutilating any piece of clothing he gets his hands onto, antiques, trinkets, souvenirs, FRIDGE MAGNETS. when he's at home he pretty much just sits on the floor because every flat surface he owns is just covered in bullshit and he has One (1) friend who isn't the kind of person to clean up after him even if she does love him dearly

god all he eats is candy. i know i touch on this briefly but pretty much all he eats is candy.

his favourite youtube account is channel 5. yes this is relevant. i dont know how but it is

he's like. 5'9? this isn't really relevant but i feel like i really emphasise how Small he is when i write him. he's really not that small he just has the worst posture ever. has a terminal case of gay people don't know how to sit properly as well

carries all his precious things with him wherever he goes. he's really into clothes with flowy/net-like material or sturdy canvas textures so he can cover them in literal hundreds of earrings, badges, brooches, pins, and he'll take them out of his clothes and stick them through his ears throughout the day. he truly values personal expression and believes that his own body is a doodle book for the story of his life. this is also why he tends to spend literally thousands of dollars on tattoos and then eat nothing but free sauces from fast food places and instant ramen for months

people that he admires/adores bring out the simpering sycophant in him, and he's a good friend if he warms up to you, but make no mistake, dude is not a pleasant person to be around. he has Very Specific Opinions about certain things, as well as a huge disdain for stuff like politics, social media, etc, and he doesn't have the social battery to engage with anyone he disagrees with. he won't even argue. he just leaves the room. he's overall a pretty quiet guy, and gosh he loves to talk about anything he's interested in, and he loves to teach people things and share opinions, but the moment someone tries to open a debate or even some friendly banter with him, he'll instantly check out.

a pure hedonist, obsessed with experiencing as many things as possible, including the negative. very good at putting a spin on all the objectively Bad Shit that happens to him to make it fun and exciting and new. the friend who goes "OMG GUESS WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY!!" and then spends 20 minutes gushing about like. the most fucked up experience ever.

this is mostly because of his upbringing, sorry to say. and this is where i pull out the family tree jashdhs

kiri is noah's half-brother; whereas noah is canonically around 21/22, kiri is 32. noah's mother, a huge horror movie buff conspiracy theorist and lovecraft enjoyer, disappeared when he was about 11, and noah was sent to live with kiri.

kiri is bound to the entity night (i also have a tag for him, btw! it's at, as u can imagine, /search/night, the rest of them also have tags at day, dusk, dawn, twilight. actually yeah everyone on this chart has a tag what am i saying. this is my oc inspiration tumblr. lol) as his human servant

night, the star-eater, the god of the oil slick serpent that snakes from the gutter in dark, is an entity who is primarily concerned with wisdom and abstraction, and as a result has a lot of humans who make pacts with him for knowledge or explanation of certain fucked up arcane things

kiri, being one of those people who's contracted into his thrall, was always around a whole heap of Fucked Up Shit when noah was growing up. noah's early childhood with his mother already gave him some... interesting ideas about the things that lurk beyond human perception, but it was being exposed to the aftershocks of the eldritch horrors kiri was dealing with for work that really cemented this.

noah never had a chance to be a 'normal kid' per se, but he maybe could've at least become a semi-functional adult if not for what he saw through kiri. these things are beautiful are the only truth are everything. additionally, kiri's tacit demeanour and tough/cruel love treatment definitely exacerbated noah's need for codependency and constant validation to the point of toxicity

but, y'know. he is a good guy overall despite his... many faults. or a kind guy? either way, he's not even really involved in this fuckshit cosmic opera so that part of canon has been nuked and now he's uhh. he's uhhhh got the worst boyfriend in the world.

oh, and he's a lucid dreamer!

really big into surfing and dancing, especially in techno contexts (will take any excuse to muzz. any excuse), and really just any high-energy or aerobic sport. if he hadn't been such a huge stoner through all of highschool he probably could have made it as a semi-professional sprinter. alas......

will never survive in a hospitality job because he physically cannot pretend to like people at all
