Just to add to the speculation: Rachel was on Twitter and instagram over the last week being really excited over how she's talking to Webtoon about LO's return date and seemed to be in good spirits, but now that we have confirmation of LO ending and her and Webtoon are now being really quiet about it, I get the impression she was expecting that meeting to be a renewal discussion but instead was greeted by Webtoon asking when she was wrapping things up with no offer of another season. I think WT was considering it since none of the S3 ads mentioned it was the last season, but they must be seeing the internal numbers and with the potential of the TV show not happening and less and less book sales, they must have seen no financial or business reason of renew it. The obfuscation both her and Webtoon are doing right now implies Rachel was blindsided by this IMO.

That was definitely an angle I hadn't considered, obviously it's still just speculation/tinfoil but from what I've heard about how cagey WT can be about communicating with their creators, it could very well be a possibility. That said, while it would SUCK for Rachel if that was the case, I feel like it's also something she shouldn't have been pressing her luck with for so long. TBH there's a lot of evidence to support the fact that LO has been getting "special treatment" for years now and I think a lot of that was based on the good will of how well the series performed in 2019/2020. When the series started going downhill, WT would have likely been willing to give her benefit of the doubt, but now with things going the way they are where people are clearly DONE with LO and Rachel isn't making any attempts to actually get her shit together, it would make sense if WT is just finally deciding to cut their losses.
Of course that's, again, HEAVY speculation. But I've seen series that weren't controversial or regularly criticized like LO get suddenly dropped without much warning for the creator (see: Yuna & Kawachan). The fact that LO has been going on this downward spiral for so long without any intervention or attempts to improve things just goes to show how much WT was banking on this series to succeed, especially after all of the time and money and advertising they had sunk into it. Even look at the awards that LO won this year, including the Eisner, which isn't an award traditionally won twice, lending credence to the fact that WT is buying her these awards to try and save their golden goose. It's too late to save it. It's barely managing to stay alive on life support.
If anything I hope this is a harsh but necessary lesson to WT to not undercut their other creators and series just to shove all their eggs in one basket. There are so many series on the platform that could be massive hits if WT would just extend them the olive branch and give them the same royal treatment they gave LO for so many years. There's no reason all of their resources need to go into one series, it's not a pie, everyone should be able to get the opportunity to be seen within their library. Otherwise, if for some reason WT can't allocate those resources due to the sheer number of series on the site, then that should be a wake up call to lessen the amount of titles that are being churned out into the Originals catalogue every week. To be fair, the launch weeks have lessened over the past year, they're not quite as overstuffed with launch titles as they used to be, but it's still a lot compared to what it used to be back in the day.
The reality is that LO was released at a time when the site wasn't nearly as oversaturated as it is today so it was created at the right place, right time - if it was released today, it would likely be another buried series with little to no advertising. It was a product of its time and that time is very much long gone.

I swear I’m working on other requests but I definitely went a bit too hard on this one. @aarcanaa
This is getting out of WTTT and into my own OC territory but I hope y’all don’t hate me too much. I intended to add L.A. too but TBH I don’t think I’ve spent enough time in L.A. to feel confident with a design right now. Also I personally have a lot of negative feelings toward L.A. so it may be a bit unfairly biased.
Anyway, some notes about my interpretations (and a sketch of San Diego v.2) below:
Fun fact; I live in a super rural part of California literal hours away from the nearest major city (which is actually Las Vegas, Nevada) so my experience of being a Californian is a bit uh... different. Cities terrify me a bit (see my notes on L.A. above) but I’ve been to most of the CA cities at least once. Out of all of them, I’ve actually spent the most time in San Diego.
Anyway, enough rambling; here’s some notes about them. Keep in mind, these are just my interpretations based on my own experiences.
San Francisco:
-Nonbinary; uses they/them pronouns. (I can’t get the idea of them saying “My name is San FranCISco but I’m anything but” out of my head.)
-Has a lot of super artsy and well-executed tattoos (pretend I can draw them correctly!) Most of them are exactly what you’d expect, but some of them are truly bizarre. Many of them cover burn scars.
-Apparently SF’s official city flower is the dahlia, so they’re wearing a vague approximation of a dahlia.
-Has a semi one-sided rivalry with L.A. (L.A. is too busy with her own shit to care as much) I think this somewhat originally stemmed from the jealousy of L.A. overtaking San Francisco as the largest city in CA, but it continues because of their clashing personalities.
-Is rich AF but attempts to dress and act like they’re not. Wouldn’t want to be like L.A.; that’s what they’ll say. But they will 100% humblebrag about their latest expensive gadget purchase whenever given the opportunity.
-Leans 110% into every single thing they do; they are seemingly incapable of half-assing something. This is their boom town mindset in action- first it was gold, now it’s tech. They are a MASSIVE overachiever, and this leads to them always being stressed-while-pretending-not-to-be-stressed.
-Acts kind of spoiled and haughty and can be a judgmental asshole sometimes, but despite this, they actually do care about people. When shit hits the fan, they’re the first one to lend a hand. Maybe it comes from coming close to dying multiple times (in the way that personifications can actually die, not just silly accidents) that gives them a deep sense of empathy and awareness of their own mortality. This leads them to champion causes that seek to make the world a better place. They’re not perfect and sometimes things backfire, but they do try.
San Diego:
-Cis female; she/her.
-Canonically (at least in WTTT) California’s favorite city. She knows this and tries to work him to her advantage to get what she wants.
-She’s basically sunshine personified. She’s super bubbly, outgoing, and generally friendly. Unlike the other California cities, she is actually genuinely laid-back and relatively stress-free.
-She’s very book smart, especially with numbers and engineering-related things, but she often acts outwardly ditzy and carefree, leading some people to doubt her intelligence. However, when she gets to work she can prove herself immediately.
-Historically, she was overshadowed by the other cities. At times, they even forget she existed, despite her trying her best to make herself stand out. I found this great quote from a 1920s businessman:
“What is the matter with San Diego? Why is it not the metropolis and seaport that its geographical and other unique advantages entitle it to be? Why does San Diego always just miss the train, somehow?"
-Despite being perpetually overshadowed and ignored, or maybe because of it, she forged her own identity. She didn’t feel like she had to uphold any rigid standards like the others did, so she became much more chill.
-She can be very flaky; don’t try to make plans with her, she’ll either forget or get distracted by something else. If you want to hang out with her, you just have to go with her flow.
-She can speak Spanish fluently and is best friends with TJ (Tijuana).
-She’s super fit and could beat you up, but she won’t.
-San Diego is well-known for having a large military presence, so I had to include San Diego in her day job attire. (Ssh, pretend I know about military stuff and got her uniform accurate) She can go from hippie mode to drill sergeant mode in an instant, but only when someone has really fucked up.

So since Sherlock Holmes is apparently in the public domain today (tumblr trending told me), I've got to make a post about it, and by that I mean I'm going to ramble about Enola Holmes for a hot second.
(500+ words of analysis below the break)
I am not a big Sherlock Holmes person. I don't keep up with every single adaptation. I've read a couple of the books and watched Enola Holmes, and before Enola Holmes 2, I was never a Johnlock person. Aroace Sherlock is something that's very important to me, so I don't seek out adaptations where he and Watson are implied to or do feel something for each other. It's just wasn't my cup of tea, but I didn't care if it was other people's. I just wanted a Sherlock who didn't need romance (and I still do tbh, but that's not what this post is about). That's part of the reason I watched Enola Holmes (1) and loved it. Besides Enola herself and the story (both of which I absolutely adore), we get a Sherlock who's got only his two siblings and is doing just fine (yes he needs friends, but you get the point-).
Then I watched Enola Holmes 2.
A big part of the lesson Enola learns in this movie is that she can be independent and hold her own, but it's also ok to ask for help when you need it, and to let other people in (both literally and emotionally). Some of this involves Sherlock and Edith, but mainly, it's about Tewkesbury. It's about the fact that having a person to lean on and a man who you love doesn't take away your agency or your sense of self. Enola learns this, and everything is all sparkles and sunshine for her post-case...and then they introduce Watson. The whole time I was watching the movie, I interpreted the hints being dropped about Watson to be teasers for the next movie that will hopefully be made, but then he shows up at the end of this one.
Intentionally or not, they've created a narrative parallel. There are little hints dropped throughout the movie about Enola's feelings for Tewkesbury. She's suppressing them, hard, but you can still tell. The movie also focuses on Enola and Sherlock's relationship, and how similar they actually are, to the point where Sherlock invites her to be his case-solving partner. They also tease the introduction of Watson, who anybody who knows anything about Sherlock Holmes should know is his closest ally. The movie also clearly establishes that Sherlock hasn't learned Enola's lessons yet. He still needs to find his person, and unlike the first movie, this is a role his family can't fulfill for him. Enola herself recognizes this and sets him up with Watson as a new roommate. And where does she go while all this is happening? On a date with Tewkesbury!
Call me crazy, but they're basically saying "Tewkesbury is to Enola what Watson is to Sherlock."
That sure looks to me like something romantic is being implied.
And no, this isn't me saying "Enola Holmes 3 WILL have canon Johnlock," (because, to be honest, I doubt it, and I don't want to start discourse) I'm just pointing out the narrative parallel they've established lends itself well, and that I'm not biased in pointing it out because I'm not a Johnlock shipper. I would actually like to see an "our platonic connection is just as important as your romantic one" storyline, because that's the type of Sherlock Holmes media I connect with, but they have set themselves up for a Johnlock storyline here, and I would love to see that come to pass as well.
(Enola herself should, of course, remain the main focus of the movies. Ultimately, it's about her and about women and about the Holmes family and I wouldn't want it any other way.)

1. Is she named after anyone?
Yes, Eddie is named after Eddie Valiant from Who Framed Roger Rabbit. In-universe, no she's not named after anyone.
2. When was the last time she cried?
Eddie cries often, but only when she's asleep. Awake, she's too numb to cry.
3. Does she have kids?
No, and she doesn't want any.
4. Does she use sarcasm?
Not really. Occasionally maybe, but it's not typical of her or her go-to. She's a very straightforward kind of person.
5. What's the first thing she notices about people?
Whether they are a witch or not.
6. What's her eye color?
Dark brown. Unlike Fred's and Angel's, it doesn't change.
7. Scary movies or happy endings?
Happy endings. Eddie reads classic romance. The only time she'll really enjoy a horror movie is if it's scary enough to give her nightmares, since if she's having those she's not having her regulars lmao. It's really hard to scare her though, because of Everything. RIP.
8. Any special talents?
Besides the premonitions? She's really great at math, she has an excellent sense of direction, and she's very analytical. She's also handy with a soccer ball, but since she's never had a team to join I can't necessarily say she'd be a good player.
9. Where was she born?
Barnes-Jewish children's hospital in St. Louis, Missouri USA.
10. What are her hobbies?
If I'm being very generous, I'll say the aforementioned romance books and soccer. If I'm being less generous, I'll say drinking 'til she drowns.
11. Does she have any pets?
Not yet! She has an extra small and discreet entourage of cats, but they are Familiars not pets and they're not hers besides. She's honestly afraid of most animals anyway, because at one point or another she's had a premonition featuring everything native to her area. She tends to be pretty anxious about plants and new foods for this reason too. She's particularly afraid of dogs. But Jessica has two Dobermans so she's gonna have to get over it lmao. Again, RIP.
12. What sports as she played?
I already mentioned soccer, and that's the only one. But like I said she hasn't technically played the game, because she's only ever played by herself or two-on-one with little her and Fred against Angel and then one-on-one against Fred when Angel was gone until she got too fucked up to play anymore.
13. How tall is she?
5' 2"
14. Favorite subject in school?
Tbh, she wasn't in school long enough to have a favorite subject and was misfit to the system that she likely wouldn't have developed one. But in an absolutely perfect world, Eddie would be a STEM girl.
15. Dream job?
She's got it, baby! She co-owns Watchtower Investigations with Fred. At the beginning of canon she's fucked up enough that she hates it, but she doesn't want anything else either. She's just doing real bad altogether. And she's bored with it too, and is deeply angry and pessimisstic about the craftism (fantastical bigotry against certain types or subtypes of witch, in this case Clairvoyants) of some of their clients. But by the end of the first book, Eddie is beginning to Get BetterTM and is more present and starts enjoying her job again.

7. What is your deepest joy about writing?
Ohhh what an interesting question! I think what I love most abt writing—why I still write even if it only results in unfinished wips—is… hm how to put this… an execution of an idea? Putting my own spin on a concept? Bringing smth to life from my mind and onto a page? Like I just love thinking about things, and writing gives me a way to share that w other ppl or put it into words, and that’s what’s best about it!
10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?
LOL uh the first definition that comes to mind for a piece of writing ‘haunting’ me is in the ‘god why did I write this’ sense, in which case I’d probably say my fanfic from my hetalia days……. A full ten years ago at this point…… But I’m also an advocate for not being ashamed of your writing no matter how old or cringy it is bc we all had to start somewhere right? And it still brought me joy at one point even if it doesn’t anymore, so I wouldn’t exactly say that it really does haunt me per se haha
The other sense of ‘haunting’ is probably ‘I think abt it a lot’ in which case—my wips haunt me. OTL
14. Do you lend your books to people? Are people scared to borrow books from you? Do you know exactly where all your “lost” books are and which specific friend from school you haven’t seen in twelve years still possesses them? Will you ever get them back?
I do! Not as much (read: at all) anymore bc my friends and I have all diverged in terms of preferences and also physical location, but in high school, sometimes I’d even give my kindle acct in order to share ebooks haha.
But I’ve also always been a library person, and my physical collection is exceedingly small. I also don’t tend to reread anything? So I only buy books if there’s a reason I’d want to display it and/or come back to it. And it’s hard to lend books if you don’t own them haha. I would lend them if I had any though!
23. Describe the physical environment in which you write. Be as detailed as possible. Tell me what’s around you as you work. Paint me a picture.
So. Most often I’m on my bed (full size, cheap, IKEA) and on top of my blankets (cheap, Amazon). I do most of my work in bed and lying down lol and also on my phone bc if I waited until I had my computer I would get nothing done. It’s probably either late at night or very early in the morning (bc I am unfortunately both a night owl and an early bird—no sleep for me!), so the light is rather dim. I have several larger stuffed animals w me on my bed (one is ice bear from CN, one’s a weighted dragon plushie, and one’s a really loooong shiba-dog-thing that’s probably close to my height) that I can prop my head up on or squash beneath me, depending on my mood. I also have an extra pillow to put against the wall for if I do decide to do anything while sitting up (currently cuddling it as I write this). A lot of what I own is a shade of blue or green. There’s a string of white Christmas lights around the wall next to my bed bc I can’t stand the brightness of the overhead light. Currently there’s a half-finished quilt rolled up beside me.
Really tho I write anywhere inspiration strikes me. Once I wrote a decent chunk while sitting in my car in the parking lot of a homegoods lol
29. Where do you draw your inspiration? What do you do when the inspiration well runs dry?
Hm… my inspiration probably comes most often from other people! I had a ton of fun with all the sctir prompts I got a while back :) A lot of my favorite ideas that I’ve executed comes from putting a spin on an existing trope or concept, or from seeing smth around tumblr or twitter and wanting to write my own version.
My inspiration well runs dry very often, actually. I’m a huge binge-writer—most of what you see from me is stuff that I wrote within a couple days, which is why most of my fics tend to be short. I’m definitely not one of those ‘write a little bit every day!!’ kind of people—that would never work for me, and kinda drains my soul. Trust me I’ve tried lol (case in point: I managed to do an entire nanowrimo a couple years ago (the whole 50k!) and never touched or looked at that fic ever again. Was a fantastic exercise, but just not the way I work). Usually if I have an active wip, I do try to go back to it every couple days, just to make sure I don’t forget about it entirely haha. If I’m not actively working on an idea, I try not to let it bother me too much; the waiting is as much a part of my writing process as the actual writing. Yes absolutely!!! This isn’t to say that you should ruthlessly get rid of what you love most in your writing, but definitely don’t be too attached to every single word you write. The writing advice that I’ve found most helpful so far in my writing journey is: if you’re stuck in your writing, the problem isn’t with the current scene or paragraph, it’s what happened before. I’ve also had an English teacher suggest to us once that we should try rewriting something from memory to pare down to what’s most important (bc anything you don’t remember isn’t essential). I start over all the time if smth’s not working for me and I delete and go back if I get stuck. If I’m getting rid of smth that’s longer, I do try to keep it around or move it to a separate doc in case I need to use it later, or to try and incorporate into a different scene so that I’m not dropping it entirely, but I’ve found myself doing that less and less as I go. It’s annoying, maybe, but I don’t grieve haha
Kill your darlings, for sure 🔪
(ALSO the best part abt fanfiction is that even if a scene that you really love doesn’t work in the main sequence, you’re allowed to write spin offs and side stories and extra scenes as much as you want to lol. Like killing your darlings doesn’t have to mean you resign it to never seeing the light of day, maybe you just fake their death and move them to a different neighborhood skdnejcbjdd)

i have a few actually! honestly, starting with the most basic joy, it's really rewarding to remind myself that i have the ability to make a world. i can create cool versions of people i absolutely adore and make totally new people too! and i often forget that if i try hard enough i can make people cry with my writing or make one joke have people go feral,,,
another one is the reminder that god damn. almost eight billion people and i had this idea. i have complete freedom over this. i have claimed the coolest idea EVER out of almost eight billion people.
and i guess just the fact that i can write what people want me to write or what people enjoy. i love taking input from others because i know it'll make one person enjoy something! little details that i remember about someone? throw it into a fic and hope they see it and smile
8 : if you had to write an entire story without either action or dialogue, which would you choose and how would it go?
bye bye fucking dialogue. i would love to write something wordless and see how it works out, it just sounds awesome tbh, very moody. one of my non g/t wips is like that for a lot of it and it's just really calm to write! i don't have to worry about balancing things or making accurate dialogue, it's just one person in the universe and the vibe of that can easily get through to me. and in my experience, it'll go pretty good!
13 : what is a subject matter that is incredibly difficult for you write about? what is easy?
ehhh i really hate writing combat or anything fast paced. moving scenes along and changing settings has never been a strong suit of mine imo,,,, like it always feels either really rushed or really choppy imo
and i think mental health is pretty easy for me to write. like that hazy, unhappy mind. it's extremely slow and easy to make long and extravagant descriptions with,,,,
14 : do you lend your books to people? are people scared to borrow books from you? do you know exactly where all your “lost” books are and which specific friend from school you haven’t seen in twelve years still possesses them? will you ever get them back?
i don't have a large collection of books. i'm never really immersed into actually reading a book which i know is awful as a writer and honestly just a terrible attribute of mine but i'm not a big reader. fanfic tho is my bitch, and in which case i have no experience with any of this :'D

it's nothing too dramatic, i started when i was in third grade and wrote a nine page story by hand and my teacher mentioned i was a strong writer for my age. i wrote all the time in school, picked up fanfic in like early 2019 (which also conveniently was my first g/t writing)
and uhh i started just because the feeling of writing was really rewarding and freeing. i loved roleplaying on roblox all the time too i would love making long descriptions of things n such :DD
i think i'm on a good track, i have 42 full-fledged wips that i have some ideas for, 3 book ideas and a cool and supportive community to share my growth with :]

honestly, no, i don't think i ever could. even if i change my mind about pursuing it as a career i could never stop it being my hobby. it's so freeing and a great way to unwind, i love the thought of writing all of my life and the thought of what my writing will be like in a few years if i'm writing like this now (which is such an improvement from 6 months ago, let me say. and yeah i'm complimenting my work for once)
i never do wish i could, because i know that regardless of if i take a break or not i'm never going to completely abandon it. i have ideas that i'm too in to be out of,,,

it depends on my wips, but for the sake of convenience i'll just go off of my aus on here: it is so messy. there is no organization, and if it is there are so many wips of my organization ideas, it's so sad. i have tried so many different ways to organize my thoughts because doing lists and making things look neat and tidy is my favorite, but on the opposite end i get bored countlessly listing out information i already know, so uhh yeah no organization. occasionally i'll jot down like "make sure to add this!" in my notes app or at the end of wtv im working on
24 : how much prep work do you put into your stories? what does that look like for you? do you enjoy this part or do you just want to get on with it?
i love the thought of prep work, hate actually doing it. i go in head first, usually with a mental map of whatever i want to happen. a lot of the time though i let the story write itself cuz i'm lazy like that :'D

it depends! some of my ideas are directly from a movie or show i watch, usually taking the idea of an "au" not from the fandom but from that show specifically if that makes sense,, other times my head'll give me some three am ideas or random ideas.
i also really like picking a color and making an inspiration board off of it! it gives me some cool ideas cause imagery can tell a big story sometimes imo
when the well is try i usually either work on other stuff or just wait for it to rain again so there's water to run off of.

idk about a love letter but honestly y'all are literally so cool. i know my community isn't remotely close to any big publishers' fanbases but damn it feels so overwhelming in the best way possible to get showered with love by the people i can easily recognize whenever i post something! to have over 100 notes on some of my fics and know that every like on my work is an individual person is just baffling. to know i have almost 200 followers in my corner, even if some of them are bots or following me for other content, it's fucking amazing. sweet comments and questions about my work is just fucking exhilarating!! it's so motivating to hear "write more of this" because damn. demanding. people demand i write more. it's SO COOL. joining social media was probably the worst decision i've ever made but tumblr has singlehandedly fixed every doubt i've had about being on the internet :) <3

i will do fanfic bc. yeah wtv. anyway there are a few, i think that if i'm being actually serious and not doing joke ones, i absolutely love the ending off passerine, it's so perfect. i am tearing up thinking abt it ngl which sounds dumb but damn. "he had a life before this, a mother, a father, a home, sisters and brothers, but what he had now was alright too. he stood alone in his bedroom mirror, combing his hair back from his face to braid it for the day, tucking it behind an ear where a sapphire earing hung, catching sunlight. he paused when he saw it, leaning in close to make sure it wasn't a trick of the light, or the lingering traces of a dream. he blinked once, twice, his mortal heart caught in his throat. there, nestled amongst the pink strands, delicate as a bird's wing, was a single, grey hair. if he listened closely, he could hear his brother coming down the hallway, looking for him. but this moment was his alone, half-sobbing, half-laughing, he fell against his chair and closed his eyes against the sudden sting of tears. he could see in his mind, a field of flowers under an open sky, a place for waiting, where all the finished stories went. where he too would go someday. a knock came at his door, and technoblade began to smile." I AM SUCH A SUCKER FOR ENDINGS TO STORIES. it's so dramatic and so domesicated and passerine is such a short story all in all but it's so perfectly written and captures relationships so well. it shows technoblade's acceptance of death so well, and although he'd been wanting of death for a while it still kind of shows how he is eager to pursue the rest of a mortal life.
also from passerine i like "this is what it feels," someone gasped, "to lose everything" I LOVE IT. tommy is their everything and losing him made the story turn so dull,, it went from silver to grey easily. love it.
ALSO. FUCKING ROOFTOPS. it is such an old fic, but it's the second fic i've ever read in the fandom. “youuu aren’t real. nope! noo, no you aren’t. youu’re not reeaal, you'ree inn my head. my head! geoorge is in my head again!” it's just so sad. i love it. the atmosphere of this scene despite it being out of context here is still just so perfect. the vibes of rooftops have never left my head.
and also this absolutely doesn't count but there's a comment on rooftops that said "this is the same story where they went camping" and i have never gone a day without thinking about that LMAO

hghghhhhh not really, no other art. cooking and baking sometimes but i wouldn't call my skill level art LMAO

i think a large factor in the rude way people interact with fanfic is tiktok tbh. a LOT of people find ao3 fics through tiktok, which is ofc a social media app, and start treating ao3 like social media too, making rude lists/comments, asking for an ao3 app, asking for an ao3 algorithm, etc. ao3 is not wattpad. its an ARCHIVE. its in the damn name. it was made directly in response to censorship of queer work and a lot of people just dont get that, know the history, or even care. tiktok also adds a consumerism lens to fanfiction. fanfiction is advertised, rated, picked apart, even copied and sold. fandom etiquette no longer exists
yes absolutely! and to be clear i dont think that a) every person (or even the majority of people) on tiktok is...doing anything wrong or practicing bad fic etiquette nor do i think that b) it occurs only on tiktok (the thing which sort of. sparked my first post came from twitter) but i do think the way tiktok as an app itself works does not lend itself to maintaining a. community feeling or perhaps the better way of putting it is that it does lend itself to portraying fic as a product. not because of the people on there--but purely because of the way the app works. it is really easy to see a tiktok, most often by someone who is not the author, recommending a fic (which in and of itself. completely harmless) as a tiktok 'selling' you that fic. and if that is the way you come across/interact with fic a lot then i can see why, as you say, you would start viewing fic through a consumerist lens! which is the lens i expect people are viewing fic through when they make mean public comments about a fic they didnt enjoy/give it a star rating/put it on goodreads (which btw. insane). ao3 cannot be treated as a social media, and then on any other social media (tiktok, twitter, tumblr, you name it) there can be a false impression that theres a sort of. layer of removal between you talking about the fic on a social media site + the fic itself + the author akin to the layer of removal you would think there'd be between you + a published book + the book's author. but there is not!! n while i cant see why anyone would think its fine to make mean comments about a fic in any public capacity, simply because its just above all mean, i can see why you might see a tiktok about a fic and go to the comments thinking that it is not a section of the internet the author of said fic will ever see. anyway. there are definitely people who have articulated this better than i can and i am conscious of talking myself round in circles at this point so i will stop here but. i think regardless of what platform you're using the best place to start is just. not treating fic as a product because well. i think a lot of the mean comments + ratings + what have you would not be made if people were viewing fic more as a knitted jumper someone made for themselves + then decided to share online and less as a published book that you as a reader are paying to consume (<- objectively not the case)

hypothetically if you had the possibility to adapt tsh and sky sea into any other type of media what would you adapt them as?? what parts of the story would you focus on in the adaptation and what parts would get left behind (would overall themes change at all? character interactions? worldbuilding and plot? etc etc)?? how would telling the story in a visual medium change them for better or worse?? how would people online horribly misinterpret the story or what do you think theyd say about it?? (this is a longass question answer as much of it as you want LOL)

mixed feelings on sky sea tbh because i think from a worldbuilding/aesthetic standpoint an animation of some kind would be better BUT a live-action thing would let a lot of dialogue get flattened into significant Looks that are exchanged (which imo works best with live action but CAN be done w animation too). i also think that sky sea could be adapted really well to an episodic style in that their shenanigans could easily be translated to the mini self contained plots with overarching seasonal themes. buuuuut on the other hand u could in theory cut out a lot of the fluff and make the core plot into a standalone movie. i personally think i’d prefer the episodic thing (the character development that could happen here… muah) but hollywood would eat up the standalone movie concept bc of its tendency to flatten characters into What Sells.
i think whether it’s episodic or not an audience would flatten the characters the same? u know. rugged adventurers, snotty princess, Troubled (tm). the difference is that with a series there’s more room for character development so i like to think that there’d be like a portion of the audience devoted to gifsets of parallels and how characters have changed!! with a movie it’d be more about how shippable the characters are.
also because a huge huge huge part of sky sea is. yknow. relationships and old history. a LOT of that tension is portrayed via aderyn and keldan’s internal monologues, which you’d lose in pretty much any screen adaptation but could keep in a comic format. in a screen adaptation the only way to convey that history would be overzealous use of flashbacks (yes i have brainrot but leverage has like. the best use of flashbacks in any show/film ever so i’d probably do that style if anything).
i do kind of think that any adaptation would be more humorous, which tells me that either my book needs to be funnier or something something literature is weightier. idk but i do love the idea of sky sea as a comic book series/webcomic and i think the worldbuilding lends itself well to dramatic “camera” angles so to speak.
tsh HAS to be a live action mini series. like i would simply refuse anything else. there’s enough plot there that trying to cram it all into a movie would be overwhelming and it wouldn’t allow for any downtime or slower moments. the pacing would be so fucked. episodes would let there still be some fluff and softer parts (which are also critical) without sacrificing the plot. it’d be the kind of show with like one season of 8-10 episodes tho; unlike sky sea, tsh has a very definite beginning and end, and it would be a lot more difficult (read: impossible) to pad out with shenanigans the way u could with sky sea.
the live action is an absolute requirement for me. tsh is ultimately a story about humanity (fun fact: originally some of the characters were vampires and fae and the like, bc urban fantasy, but then i realized that the whole 'morality' theme wouldn't hit as hard with monstrous characters aka the ppl the readers expect to have dubious morals anyway), which means seeing real humans do the things the characters do. like idk i love animations but the ‘real’ aspect would get lost in the art style if that makes sense.
as far as worldbuilding goes i would probably simplify the magic system? or at the very least i think it isn't particularly necessary to explain it in a lot of depth. u know. soft magic systems.
also tsh would be the kind of show where ppl would be like "you have to watch it, it's got gay people" "okay what's the plot" "..... there's gay people" BUT there would be a select corner of fandom where everyone is as insane as you and i are. they're writing essays about themes and analysis and symbolism and i love them for it. mwah
idk what else to say even tho im sure i missed stuff so tl;dr (even tho i know you read everything anyway): sky sea would be an ongoing tv series with ideally a game of thrones-style fandom (except imagine if got didn't have the worst series ending in television history) doing the like. gifsets and parallels and in-depth meta analysis. tsh would be a one-season mini-series and most of the fandom would talk about literally anything except the important themes and character development <3

bucky vis-à-vis IMPULSE CONTROL because i’ve been calling him dumb in the tags on main a lot and i’d just like CLARIFY a few things.
mcu bucky is set up as steve’s impulse control, and then it’s further reiterated in tfatws where he’s set up as sam’s impulse control which tbh is kinda sus like i think that was a cheap shot at sam if anything. in the war, as the team’s sniper, there was no room for error. he either got the job or his team died --- end of story. again, as the winter soldier, his best skill was EFFICIANCY. he carries a part of those traits with him now, and we see that when he breaks zemo out of jail because zemo was their quickest and easiest lead to get to the flag smashers. and they could have all sat around discussing the morals of breaking a terrorist out of prison and the repercussions to international relationships etc etc., but the fact of the matter is it needed to be done and bucky got it done. similarly, i don’t think he went into it just blindly either. he knew the wakandans would be pissed --- he also knew zemo would probably get what he deserves at the hands of the wakandans rather than what that cushy prison was giving him and that knowledge just evened out the calculated risk. there are multiple examples of this in tfatws, the bottom line being bucky just gets shit done. in regards to him being other people’s impulse control --- he doesn’t do shit that doesn’t need to be done. so him telling steve to pick his battles ? yeah, that’s legit. him telling steve to put a parachute on ? also legit. what does not putting a parachute on gain him other than street cred ?
james is a little different. james is so emotionally driven that it lends to him making rash decisions. he also grew up needing and wanting to prove himself, always feeling like he was dragging the team down and needing to go above and beyond to pull his weight. that’s what happens when you have namor as an uncle figure i guess. i think that period of his time in the invaders is what instilled his tendency to disregard any danger or threat to his own life if it meant his team / friends / rest of the population were protected, because he’s always viewed himself as less important and if he can go out doing something impactful and worthwhile, then maybe he would have earnt his keep on the team. bucky’s best work tends to come AFTER the fact, because he will rush in and get captured or make a situation worse but his greatest skill is thinking on his feet and using what he’s got ( because that’s all he’s ever had --- no special powers, just good ole street smarts ) to a ) not get himself killed or b ) sometimes even save the day. he is HIGHLY resourceful --- a lot of the work he did for the invaders was sneaking around and scouting ahead and you have to have both eyes open for that, not to mention you have to be CLEVER and manipulative to gather intel and ( in his later years ) extract information from people. and add decades worth of experience into the mix and you’ve got a guy who basically knows every trick in the book. he knows how both sides of the world work --- he knows how things SHOULD be done, and he knows how criminals work and operate, and going back to the point about being deadly efficient --- he WILL use whatever method has the highest probability of success. ( depending on who he’s with, though, he CAN be swayed onto a slightly more moral path if those methods aren’t so pure. )

if you don't know, i'm lowkey obsessed with the idea of characters that dress flamboyantly or alt, basically anything outside of the mainstream or what you would usually see. Anyways i'm obsessed with the idea of them getting to discover that they like a style that most others wouldn't. Or of them having to dress down in front of certain people. the angst potential.
so before they start dressing how they want. the anxiety they feel when shopping with others that don't know what they like or their style. only really feeling safe or comfortable enough to pick out a few graphic tees. they can't really go shoe shopping because nothing really appeals to them enough but they're literally deathly afraid of picking out something they genuinely wholeheartedly know they'll love.
i feel like there is at least one sexuality crisis when they see someone, online or in real life, wearing the style that they like because their heart just soars seeing them, literally obsessing over how they look. only to see more and more of that style and realize, oh. i'm not really in love with the people, i'm in love with the aesthetic. god the angst potential... would also be peak aro i'm just saying
i need people that dress out there, i need to read a fic about them hyping each other up, getting each other dressed up, helping with their makeup or ironing their clothing for a night out on the town so everyone looks flawless. i need them doing each other's hair. or going out shopping together, picking out different things that they like or that the others would like. tbh i need this in general but i love the little friendships that form between people when they like each other's clothing.
can you imagine? how lonely and anxious they would feel at first, finally dressing the way they want to? like everyone's staring at them, judging their change in style. the feeling of regret and anxiety sinking their stomach. and they just have to hope, that after a while, they'll get used to it. they'll learn to not care, to be comfortable in their own skin.
i think it'd be funny if a group of friends was looking through a year book and being like, "haha that person has the same name as you. where are you in the book?" and the realization that that's their friend. and the past them and present them just look so wildly different it's unbelievable. it'd also be super wholesome imo bc they realize that their friend feels comfortable enough to be themselves. y'know, all that sappy feels
people that maybe have designer clothes or relatively expensive clothing (like $60 jeans or hoodies or shirts) that they absolutely LOVE and TREASURE and would DIE FOR. It's like hoarding treasure for them. And, the TRUST, the RESPECT when they lend out that clothing item to someone they're close with. because it's so symbolic of trust, an item that they treasure so much, that usually isn't out of their sight, that they spent what they consider a considerable amount of money for, and they let you have it for a little while. even with how possessive they are over it.
i need characters that wear capes. i need the dramatic swoosh. y'know that one tiktok trend where it was like "my ex is coming, hide me" and they fucking put both arms around your head and get really close? yeah imagine that except they're hiding you under a cape, crouched down and incredibly close. i need their cape to flutter behind them as they leave, for them to trip on it a little and hope no one else saw that, like... help

What is the craziest thing you’ve seen happen at your workplace? I work at a divorce lawyer's, so I see a lot of extremely angry people. I've had people go into screaming fits, both in person and on the phone, one woman had a meltdown and was throwing a tantrum, one guy punched a wall. It's insane, we have a security officer now.

4) What are your Dragonborn's philosophies, mantras, codes of honor and the like? How steadfast are they in these beliefs? How do they influence their interactions with the world?
"Live Fast, Smoke Grass, and Eat Ass." I'm joking. Vulon believes very strongly in helping those in need, especially anyone unable to help the selves for any reason. As much as it is Kind Of an irresponsible asshole regarding being Dragonborn it's well known for helping out random folk in need of it. It's always believed in helping like,,,the downtrodden, the oppressed, the abused. You get the idea. It knows what it's like to feel helpless and believe, to your very core, that no one will help you and you'll die at rock bottom, and it doesn't want anyone to ever feel that way. But it's also very bitter and does believe some people truly are purely cruel beings, and believes anyone like that should be killed with no hesitation. It doesn't think people are born good or evil, but rather purely neutral and that they Decide what they want to be.
5) Dragonborn's favorite province and Dragonborn's least favorite province?
It liked Morrowind bc the Priests that smuggled it into Skyrim were the first people to be genuinely kind to it aside from a random clown when it was a kid. It doesn't hate the Summerset Isles but it has almost no good memories from living there so. By default that's it's least favorite :(
13) Does your Dragonborn have any hobbies? Are they particularly attached to any of them?
It considers its study of magic a hobby! It also journals and likes drawing :3 It hand-makes its own journals and inks as well, though idk how it gets paper for em. Probably recycles or something?? Idk hehehe. When it dies though it takes up gardening in Snakemount!! Lord Boethiah gives it a small portion of land at the peak for it to have a little house and a garden, and it spends most of its time caring for it. I think it would also get into weapon smithing as well like, just for Fun. It realizes that while it's dead it can do and learn pretty much anything it wants !! Mora is...not overly Fond of it but it Did "return" Miraak to Him so He will occasionally lend it a book or two on whatever its current hyperfixation is. No idea how Lord Boethiah feels abt this but I think it's funny lmao.
32) How does your Dragonborn view the gods, daedra and deities? How do they view the Dragonborn?
It surprisingly doesn't have that many feelings for the Aedra. It respects Stendarr because some of his stuff is similar to its Lord's, but doesn't worship him or anything (and has beef with the Vigilants of course. It knows they are Absolutely disrespecting their God's actual Thing). I think Stendarr would like it if it werent so...violent?? And got a few therapy sessions????? Theyd probably be bros tbh. It hates Akatosh on account of he made it Dragonborn! However some of that anger and resentment lessens when Akatosh allows Lord Boethiah to fully claim its Soul, as well as apologizing to it for making it Dragonborn. Akatosh on the other hand feels...kind of Sad for Vulon. It has so much potential, it Clearly embraces its Soul no matter how much it denies that, but he understands where the resentment and fury towards him comes from. I think, when Vulon dies, he almost wishes he had picked someone else to be Dragonborn. It doesn't worship Mara but definitely respects her and in the brief time it's in Riften it pays its respects for Her at the Temple and helps out the Priests. They're probably a Little confused as to why the Champion of Boethiah is so eager to help out but hey, they don't complain! Hes also surprisingly very helpful and kind and its clearly not a surface level thing; man just hides his kindness by acting inpulsive and mean. (Fun fact one of its most treasured posessions is an Amulet of Mara. It has no plans to get married but its So precious to Vulon). Mara's whole Thing is love, and so I think by default she loves Vulon. But I think she would also feel so, so deeply sad for it and for the fact it doesn't have a family. She'd be rooting for it to recover from its trauma and, maybe surprisingly?? Be delighted it has SO much love for its Lord. I think she'd keep an eye on it to make sure it's ok, but respectfully keep her distance and not interfere. She just wants to make sure it's healing. Vulon thinks Arkay is cool because it thinks Florentius is cool (the two of them bond over their shared experience of "My God/Lord is in my head and we talk all the time and people don't understand). I think Arkay would appreciate how much Vulon respects his Champion (for lack of a better word; I headcanon that Arkay really Has chosen Florentius for some Purpose and communicates with him). But beyond that I don't think there's much of a connection on either side.
It's fairly neutral towards most Princes it doesn't directly have conflict with. It respects Mora and Mora respects its quest for knowledge and discovery (as well as acknowledges it for "returning" Miraak to Him). If the pair ever speak directly i think Mora would mention how in another life, Vulon was His. Vulon would find that sweet, and tell Mora it hopes He takes good care of it, which Mora reassures it that He does. Vulon appreciates that more than it will ever admit. If it survived its battle with Miraak I think it would give casual Offerings to Mora but I doubt that would fly in Oblivion lol. It has HELLA beef with Molag Bal on account of it helping Serana kill Harkon and also being Lord Boethiah's Champion on top of that but like, it would even Without being Their Champion lol. But also in its timeline, Harkon is Bal's Champion so there's EXTRA extra beef because of that. Knows vaguely that were it not it's Lord's Champion it would probably be somewhat close to Malacath on account of the whole Outcast Thing. Respects him for that tho. Not sure how Malacath would feel about it tho??? Super chill w the Cult of Namira in Skyrim but doesn't actually have any real ties with her, just kinda runs into 'em at a feast and is like "oh dope hey I drained the blood of some guy who was a major dick that I've been using for fun but like you guys can probably find more use for it, trade you for some fresh meat I SUCK at hunting" n they become homies. Namira is the one that dares it 2 eat fries off a hotel room floor and Lord Boethiah STRONGLY considers throwing them both out the window lol. UMMMM. It has a Lot of paranoia and like, all my Other mental fuck shit so I think if Lord Boethiah hadn't gotten to it first Sheogorath would have LOVED having it as his Champion, and Vulon would have had fun with that as well :3 And most importantly it's BESTIES w Ezimar ! I think when it dies it should b allowed 2 help w the Coldharbour post office :3
