if you ask the folks at a certain lonely, backwater interplanetary hub, they’ll say the fellow who docks his solo ship and buys out the spare parts shop roughly once a year must be a recluse; some kooky old bastard who lives alone in the voids of deep space. probably has a self-sustaining mothership anchored to some asteroid out there, with how little he visits — it’s not like there’s any habitable planets nearby. only the real regulars can claim to have seen him, and the stories vary wildly: 8ft tall, no, 13ft! face and teeth made of metal, and a prosthetic eye that he can pop out and set off like a drone to fly around the hub, observing passerby with a piercing red glow. horns that can ram through the reinforced walls of a ship. a voice like the distant rumble of a burning star. massive, deadly claws and the stench of dirt and explosives, rocket fuel and redstone.
if you somehow ask the people he used to know before, they’d tell you he was insane. crazy ideas about hyperloop drives and shadow teleportation tech and mind control. a mad doctor, eventually run off into a self-imposed exile with a modified freighter ship. the last time anyone saw him, he was setting off to ransack a former human mining colony — deeply illegal, mind you. the species humans bring with them into their colonies are almost always highly invasive, and the mining site was set to be eradicated for having too many foreign livestock remaining on the hollowed-out planet. most assume that was the end for him: wiped out with the rest of the life on the old colony, in some mad, ill-fated quest to grab some illegal flora or fauna for whatever esoteric purposes.
if you ask doc himself, sitting on the porch of a scrap-metal shack on the purportedly-uninhabitable dwarf planet Hr-MT-77, he will tell you quite proudly that he is a goat farmer.
you politely don’t mention the modified pitchfork that can channel lightning from stormy skies, or the massive, towering array of antennas and satellite dishes that scramble all navigational signals that come anywhere near this sector of space. you don’t mention the acres of lush green farmland on a dwarf planet that’s never managed to sustain life on its own. there’s a baby goat chewing on your pant leg, wearing a little goat-shirt clumsily sewn together out of what seems to be the singed remains of a lab coat. later, doc quite casually tells the story of how he challenged a living planet and won and lost his arm for it afterwards, and you find that you wholeheartedly believe him.

now it’s time for the fun fact round:
doc’s prosthetic eye is VERY high tech. it allows him to see in more colors than the average knallan, who see mostly in varying shades of green. it also functions, as mentioned above, as a drone (basically like his freecam in minecraft), where he can detach it and send it buzzing around and take in a live video feed from it, audio included! while it’s out and about doc is unable to hear or see anything going on around his body, unaware of much other than physical touch.
doc's current situation is that he lives alone on a fuck-off mudball of a dwarf planet that barely exists on any official documentation. he's the only person there, as of now, and only a few people know about it. he can send and receive normal signals through his scrambling array, so he can pick up on interplanetary radio/tv broadcasts if he feels like it.
i don’t remember how much of general knallan (doc’s species) physiology we’ve shared with the public already but i’ll go over it again just in case. knallans are Big, furry dudes with six limbs — two powerful rear legs, two upper arms, and then a set of limbs in the middle that can function as arms or legs depending on need/mood/etc. when quad, doc is about ~8ft tall, and when standing up on his hind legs he’s roughly ~10ft tall.
knallans, as a very last-resort defense mechanism, have natural pockets of explosive glands that can be activated at will to create concentrated explosions in specific parts of their bodies. it’s rough, but survivable. altho given that they live in a setting with sci-fi tech and FTL travel, the need to employ this has gone down drastically so most modern knallans never have to.
knallan fur is oddly plant-like and very suited to camouflage in their environments, which they can adapt to slowly over time. during the rainy season on Hr-MT-77, doc’s coat gets dark and lush, while during the dry season it pales and grows coarser. sick knallans even look a bit like they’re “wilting.”
still doc-themed but to the left i just think it’s SO important for u to know that baby knallans move kinda like this. just imagine a fluffy, three-foot long, six-limbed green weasel with nubby little horns and a stumpy little puff of tail and big clumsy paws and oversized, floppy goat ears that they haven’t quite grown into yet. that’s a baby knallan. (also according to @echotunes the word for a baby knallan would be “knällchen” which is just DELIGHTFUL to me)

Admincraft: Minecraft Server Talk for Serious Admins and Developers
Hi, I have an issue with hackers, and I'm nervous.
I was playing on a spigot server I run with a group of friends, there were two people online chilling when an unintentional visitor walked in, I question to it who it was and he promptly log out, after that I was able to log out and received an email that stated that I had logged into the server and was unsuccessful in trying to log in. After that I knew there was something wrong and ran to my puffer panel where I found my server and turn off. I could see in the console that I was trying to log in again and then another person different from the first person joined and I gave him op.
Since I've only managed survival servers with friends I am still a novice in the field of server management. I don't know much about managing servers, so I don't know what I should do. What can I do to stop another event from occurring? What can I do? SZV7 I have changed my password with Microsoft but I don't know whether it helped.

How to stay engaged and play on the server when you're also in charge of adminning?
Title says it all , but how do you keep your interest and motivation playing on servers you run while also being responsible for upkeep, config, fixing shit, resolving disputes, etc. ?
Longer version:
My first server was set up for my community about 6 to seven months ago. We've had three since then and most recently I moved from multiverse to a network set up finally to distribute the load and run things more efficiently. I find myself playing in the hardcore world I created (still on the network, so I can chat and other things, but not on our main survival servers) more often than I do in the survival server.
One of my mods commented that servers go down when the owner is no actively involved. This has been causing me anxiety since she said it. I've observed that the more I play, the more other players play and the reverse is true. One reason could be that I'm also streamer, and people are part of the community for the stream/engaging with me and my content, and not only the server, but I'm struggling.
The only time I really engage/play is when I set up something unique or add new things, and I'm developing an RPG/MMO-style server that includes custom mobs quests, dungeons and all that, but it just seems like joining the existing servers is about asking answering questions and fixing issues for players, not having fun.
Any suggestions are would be appreciated :) Really struggling here.

I'm planning on running an upgraded Minecraft server from home. Nothing public, mostly some friends that I know, and my girlfriend. (6-7 in total) I have an old PC, but it appears that the processor is gone. It's an old 1150 socket with 16GB of DDR3 ram. I would choose the i54690 processor because it offers the best performance for my money. It could run older versions of servers like 1.16.5 Forge server that has 50-120 mods max and vanilla's most recent version Server? (Not at the same time)
We appreciate your assistance.

Minecraft Goats - how to Breed and Tame Them?
There's been plenty of talk about the 'caves' part of the Minecraft 1.17 update but not much about the 'cliffs' or their newest Minecraft mob - goats. We get it. Axolotls from Minecraft are fantastic underwater companions, and can be game changers. The Minecraft Warden on the other hand is a brand new monster that is totally blind, yet packs a punch. But, don't you think of Minecraft's goats instead?
Yes, Minecraft has goats. Finally! There are a variety of varieties of goats in real life, including the ibex, which can walk on steep hills and the fainting goat. The Minecraft goats are based on the Rocky Mountain goat (or Oreamnos Americanus) and are well-suited to both subalpine and alpine climates. They aren't goats. They are more like antelopes and square-shaped fakers.
We're still here and they behave as the woolly mountain goats that we love. Here's everything you need to know about Minecraft goats.
Where can I find goats in Minecraft?
In Minecraft the game, goats can be found on top cliffs and other high surfaces with an average light level of seven or higher. It doesn't seem that it is important if the cliffs are covered with snow or grass on them, but they do seem to move during the daytime.
If you're lucky you're lucky enough, you may also be able to hear goats who scream. The only difference between them and regular goats is their bleats, so you'll need to pay attention to them.
What do Minecraft goats DO?
They're based on the Rocky Mountain goat, an animal disguised as a goat in order to keep cool. It's hard to duplicate their unique ability of being able to stand on a slope and climb up high.
Instead of jumping a block high, Minecraft goats can jump two blocks high. They can easily clear tiny gaps and look impressive when they do. They can jump up to ten blocks into the air when confronted with blocks of powder snow or a gap in the ground.
They have 10 health points (five full hearts) and are able to inflict around seven damage (three and three and a half hearts).
Generally goats seem to be quite docile, and as CaptainSparklez found out in the 1.17 beta snapshots, they won't attack you if you strike them first. Instead, they'll decide that you're required to be yelled off a ledge and ram into you with full force. Even if they get angry, they are more likely to attack your enemies to defend you. If they are attacked, the goat will run away from the attacker.
How to find the Goat Horn?
The Minecraft 1.17 update also includes a new item , called the goat Horn. The goat can drop up two goat horns at once when it rams into blocks. However they can only drop one at a given time. The easiest way to get a goat horn is to gather a number of goats in a single area and then have them charge you. When a goat that is charging is struck by a block and their horn breaks, it will break off.
You will make a noise when you make use of a goat's horn. It's like you're blowing through the Horn to trigger an alarm. It's the same sound heard during raids against Minecraft villages. What's the purpose of this sound? Some speculate that the goat's horn could be used to make an easter egg. However in the moment currently, the horn produces only the noise of raid.
What do Minecraft Goats eat for their food?
In the real world, goats were among of the first animals to be domesticated for their grass eating, milk producing udders and delicious meat. You can feed them wheat to encourage them to follow your lead. This will make them fall in a state of love and allow you to breed. You can also make milk by placing an empty bucket over them. If the goat is burning then you can cook mutton or raw meat on them. But who would do such a bad thing?

You could theoretically train the hypothetical chimp to memorize the combination of symbols that represent the contents of the quantum physics book, and be able to type a copy of the contents of the book on a typewriter, but he will still not understand any of the gibberish that it was forced to memorize. Aside from irreparably abusing the animal to the point of psychosis, the knowledge that it gained was completely useless to poor little bobo. Quantum physics, sadly, does not make a chimp more capable of finding the best fruit in the jungle.

I have watched multiple videos on the topic of quantum computing, thanks to YouTube knowing that I like to stroke my ego by learning about scientific stuff that is beyond my comprehension, thus recommending me videos about it.
I know that a “qubit” is this thing that is always spinning, being in a state of one and zero(not sure what it means!) at the same time, and that’s good thing. If you “entangle” multiple qubits together and somehow are able to dominate the black magic that is the science behind it, you can create a computer that is capable of running modded Minecraft at a consistent 60 FPS, making it far superior to any super computer made by humans. Jokes aside, while the technology is very interesting, I cannot comprehend any real details behind its inner workings.
Is the knowledge of these facts useful to me?

I could spend all of my free time watching “fun facts” videos on YouTube about highly advance scientific topics, in which the host is a human whose intelligence and wisdom far surpasses mine in all measurements, and yet, 1 out every 100 pieces of knowledge I learn will be of practical use (the “1” being that one video were I learned that if you spin a shaken can of coke, it won’t burst and make a mess, like it would normally do). Maybe there is a far more important meaning to this seek of knowledge with no direct application to our daily lives, something less obvious that our brain instinctively knows.
My theory is that “Fun facts” or just general knowledge of scientific principles, history, etc, even if sometimes beyond our comprehension, expand our perspective on things, or so I believe, in the sense that trains our common sense to be able to recognize bullshit when we see it.
We all have a bullshit detector pre-installed in our brains, but it needs to be trained and fed information for it to work properly. I know that the earth is round, I know that is round because it spins, I know that it spins because of the gravitational forces acting upon it, so when some internet crackhead comes to me and tries to indoctrinate me into the cult of flat-earth, I can say “fuck no (#4)”. It might not be about the direct application of knowledge the reason as to why learning these bits of wisdom is important, but about building our bullshit sensor and avoiding idiotic decisions.
I might not know the exact specifics of how memory RAM works, but I do know that RAM comes on a physical piece of hardware, and that the nice Indian man offering me to download more of it from his website, is probably wrong about his perception of how it works (sorry nice gentleman, but RAM doesn’t work like that, you silly boy!).
Knowledge, while not obvious on it’s usefulness, it’s the closest thing we have to a cure to stupidity, so be a nice homosapiens and remember to take your medicine. Even the most intelligent humans out there are sometimes victims to their own ignorance. If you ever feel like you don’t need to learn more, remember that doctors use to think smoking was good for your health (but thankfully, they learned something new after a few dozen cases of lung cancer).
A fun fact a day, keeps the nice Indian man away.

Hello, I've had an issue with I suppose a hacker and I'm a little scared.
I was playing on a server called spigot that I run with some friends, we were just two people online chilling when someone random entered and I asked who was it and he instantly log out, after that I was able to log out and received an SMS that stated that I had logged into the server but was unsuccessful in trying to log in. I realized something was wrong and went to my puffer panel , where I had located my server. I shut it down. I could see in the console that I was logged in again and a different user joined, so I gave him the option.
Since I have only ever managed survival servers with friends I am a beginner in the field of server management. I have no knowledge about server management , so I'm not sure what I should do. What can I do to stop another episode from happening? What can I do? I have changed my Microsoft password, but I don't know how to use it.
