The Great Race Part 1

Narrator: It was a beautiful summer day on the Island of Sodor. Everyone works on their delivering their trains on time. Gordon especially, takes great pride in making sure the Express arrives on time.

(We see Gordon waiting at a red signal. Suddenly Thomas blows his whistle.)

Gordon: Gahh!

Thomas (laughing): Wake up lazy wheels! The Express can't be stopped all day you know. Some of us have work to do. I bet I can make it to Vicarstown faster than you.

(Gordon moans. The signal turns green and Gordon speeds away.)

Annie: That wasn't very nice, Thomas.

Clarabel: You know that Gordon's a very fast engine. He'll make you look very silly.

(Thomas calms down.)

Thomas: Relax, ladies. I'm just teasing him. And besides, the Express always has the right of way. Everyone knows that.

(We follow Gordon through his journey on the Main Line until he stops at the station in Vicarstown.)

Gordon: Oh yes. Right on time. Of course that isn't a surprise if you're me.

(Donald who's pulling a freight train to the Mainland just rolls his eyes.)

Narrator: As he waits for his departure time, Gordon hears Thomas' whistle.

Gordon: Well, well, well little Thomas. Looks like I beat you to Vicarstown after all.

(Thomas pulls up to the platform right next to Gordon's.)

Thomas: Oh come on, Gordon. It's not like we were really racing.

(Gordon is about to say something when he hears a whistle he hasn't heard in a long time.)

Gordon: No. It couldn't be.

(Thomas looks in the direction Gordon's looking in.)

Thomas: Wow. Is that who I think it is?

Narrator: A large green engine with two tenders backs into Vicarstown station next to Thomas.

Thomas: Hello there. I'm Thomas. Are you who I think you are?

(Before he can speak, Gordon cuts in.)

Gordon: Yes Thomas, you should know who this is. This is my brother, the Flying Scotsman.

Flying Scotsman: Oh! Hello, Gordon. Haven't seen you in a while. Don't tell me your run has been shorted to Vicarstown already.

Gordon (scoffing): Oh please. Like my controller would ever shorten my run. I always run my trains on time and provide reliable services.

Thomas: You don't even travel 100 miles on a one way trip, Gordon. I'm sure the Flying Scotsman works way harder than you do.

(He laughs.)

Flying Scotsman: Oh I wouldn't be so formal, Thomas. You can just call me, Scott. Why calling me the Flying Scotsman almost makes me sound famous.

(Gordon rolls his eyes.)

Gordon: Just say what you wanted to say, Scott. Some of us actually have work to do.

Scott: Ah yes. I wanted to tell you some news. Now I don't know if you heard this yet, but on the Mainland there is to be an international steam exhibition show. Many competitions will be held and I will be racing.

(Gordon makes an exasperated gasp.)

Thomas: Wow. I didn't even know engines could race.

Scott: Of course we can race. I might not be able to hit my 100 mph record, but I can still win a race or two. I wouldn't be the pride of the LNER if I wasn't fast.

Gordon (huffing): If that's all you came here to say, you wasted your breath. I wouldn’t want to be part of such foolishness anyway. I'm not a show off like you, Scott. Some of us have class.

Scott: Oh I wouldn't be so quick to blow it off, Gordon. This could be your chance to show the world what you Sodor engines are made of.

Thomas: I definitely want to go to the Mainland and show what I'm made of.

Scott (chuckling): Well Thomas, you my friend have a lot of heart. Who knows, maybe I'll see you all at the show.

(The conductor blows his whistle.)

Scott: Flying Scotsman coming through!

(The title "Hit Entertainment presents" appears.)

Flying Scotsman: Flying Scotsman, coming through!

(The subtitle "Created by Britt Allcroft" appears.)

Gordon: Ooh!

(The Flying Scotsman drives off screen with his train as the subtitle "Based on The Railway Series by the Rev W Awdry" appears. Thomas looks surprised as the subtitle "Written by Andrew Brenner" appears. We cut to a birds eye view of the track to the Mainland as the subtitles "Told by Mark Moraghan" and "Executive Producer Christopher Keenan" appear.)

Thomas: Wow. I can't believe the Great Railway Show's only a month away.

(He sees a man gluing a poster about the show saying it will take place on August 1st, 1965.)

Sir Topham Hatt: That's right, Thomas. I haven't decided if we would even be competing in the event yet. We still have a railway to run.

Thomas (a little dejected): Yes sir.

Narrator: Thomas makes his way back to the shunting yard. Gordon meanwhile, is still grumbling about seeing his brother.

Gordon: Unbelievable. My brother didn't even write to me in so long. Now out of nowhere he wants to act as if nothing happened. Typical.

(Time passes and Gordon grumbles all the way back to Tidmouth Sheds.)

So I noticed on your wife’s blog that she mentioned that you also associate Taylor Swift songs with Charles and Camilla so I was wondering which ones you thought are most like them??

Thanks so much for this wonderful and inspiring question! In fact, I think that quite a lot of Taylor songs could actually be written for / about Their Majesties (they most certainly aren't but I think they "pitch perfect"). A couple of months ago, I started a little something I haven't posted anywhere yet but I'm happy to share it here (and please do let me know what you think! 🥰)

[BURSTS IN WITH MY POST-NO WAY HOME TOBEY!PETER THEORY]

(spoilers, obviously)

So I saw people being like, how does it work for them to get sent back now, aren't they just going to die anyway, maybe it creates separate universes. But where's the fun/catharsis in that! SO HERE'S WHAT I'M THINKING.

Norman gets sent back, the Goblin is gone. He doesn't send the glider at Peter meaning he doesn't get stabbed. He lives! But he still did kill a lot of people, so he goes to jail or maybe gets the insanity defence and gets sent off to get help being at home in his mind again.

Either way, just like in canon, Harry now takes over Oscorp. But! Since his father didn't die, Harry doesn't have his whole vandetta against Spider-man/Peter. He still hires Otto to do his experiments for Oscorp, still trying to make his farther proud. So that all goes down the same (Rip Rosie ☹️).

If you don't remember, originally what happens at the end of Spider-man 2 is that Otto has his fusion reactor going, but it's going to overload again but worse and destroy the city. Peter is begging him to do the right thing and shut it down. Ock grabs Peter by the throat... and that's the last thing he remembers in No Way Home. He's eventually able to break through the hold the tentacles have on his mind and get control of them, and he tells Peter to get out and he'll bring the building down on the reactor to drown it in the river, knowing he won't have time to get out himself. His last words are "I will not die a monster."

SO. No Way Home happens, he's back in control and gets sent back to that same moment. WITH THIS CRUCIAL EXTRA TIME AND BRAINSPACE where he's not fighting to be in control again, he tells Peter to go, and manages to drown the reactor without dying himself. Maybe Peter gets him out, maybe he just plans it better since he's not trying to redeem himself so much. IDK BUT HE GETS OUT FINE. Hooray!

Now we're on to Spider-man 3. Harry, unvengeful flavor, finds has found his father's Green Goblin stuff. Maybe they found it back when his dad got arrested and he hid it, maybe he stumbles onto it now. But he wants to talk to Spider-man about what really happened with his dad, since a lot is still unclear. He doesn't know it was Peter before, but they bond and he starts to suspect.

He doesn't straight up take the Goblin formula as-is, but uses Oscorp resources to keep working on it so it doesn't turn him insane. Or maybe he just uses the Goblin accessories and builds some good armor and doesn't become a superhuman. Either way! At the end when MJ gets kidnapped again, either Spidey knows what he's been doing and shows up to ask him for help and Harry has already been suiting up like, "Of course, Pete" (casually revealing he knows the truth), OR Peter and Harry were hanging out moping about MJ or something when they see the news, and Peter's like "I HAVE TO GO FOR MYSTERIOUS REASONS", but Harry is like "Peter, I know you're Spider-man, and I can help," and reveals the suit then.

So off they go together to fight Venom-Eddie and Sandman, and with Harry having been there for the whole fight it goes a little easier this time. Harry does *not* die, and isn't messed up by vengeance or goblin serum. So Harry gets fixed too, and doesn't even need to be in No Way Home.

Tobey!Peter goes back to a world in which Norman, Otto, and Harry all lived.
