#I know!#a rare post of old visual kei stuff from me!#the context for this is that on one of my trips after COVID-19 #I tried to find a substitute store for Trio2 which had shut down in Nakano Broadway #I had read that there were some magazine shops at least in Ochanomizu #I didn't have data and tried to navigate with my geolocation skills but ended up asking a sort of old officer just to be sure #he said something along the lines of 'but I'm just an old man...'#so a younger man came to his and my rescue and offered to help me #he understood little English and used Google Translate to communicate with me for the most #turned out he was a magazine enthusiast himself and he took me to a couple of stores #they all had only antique magazines like nothing past 2005 #he found everything that had Dir en grey at each of those stores #I felt bad after a while because it was not at all what I was looking for #so I ended up buying the Xth magazine that he showed me #see above hah #just so you know I was really close to the store just with my skills #Dir en grey #young #scans #magazine #visual kei #vkei #Kyo #Kaoru #Die #Shinya #Toshiya #makeup #I'm not sure why I'm such a fan of that middle finger nail paint

Something you start noticing is that people who hold delusional or "incoherent" beliefs have reasons for believing them that you might understand. There's this idea that delusional people or people who otherwise hold "out-there" views just... come up with them on a whim, but that isn't always the case. I find that when people start assuming that delusional beliefs come from nowhere, they think that they're really easy to just "snap out of," and it doesn't work like that.

You might not understand why somebody believes in something, but knowing that it is for a reason can remind you that they aren't being antagonistic. There is already a lot going on. The least you can do is understand where the person is coming from and offer compassion, not judgment.

i do find it funny how most of the fan depictions of belos were far more interesting and detailed than s3 belos. i've seen fanart and fanfics of him where he's a complex villain struggling with religious guilt and then the canon is just like.. lmao yeah he's pure evil. kill him.

I've listened to TTPD three times now, twice alone and once at a listening breakfast with friends! Thoughts:

I liked quite a lot of it, but I'm not immediately blown away.

Current favorite is "The Bolter," followed by "But Daddy I Love Him," "The Prophecy," and "Florida!!!" in no particular order.

I loved the breadth of feelings that the album addresses. You really get a sense of a whole emotional landscape.

It's in strong and compelling conversation with Taylor's whole body of work without being too excessively self-referential. "thanK you aIMee" is the notable exception.

A lot of the songs are overwritten: she uses $20 words in place of $2 words, repeats herself, and dulls the power of what works by surrounding it with a lot that doesn't. If we go by Coleridge's definition that poetry is the best words in their best order, then yeah. She definitely needs an editor.

However, none of the lyrics that people seem to be highlighting as "cringey" bother me at all. I've always loved Taylor's proclivity for small details, even strange or out-of-place ones.

I would really love to gently help Taylor out with her literary allusions. They're a long-standing struggle for her, and even going in I was a little worried for that aspect of the album based on the marketing. Could've been worse, but most of them could still stand to be a whole lot sharper.

The songs tend towards very consistent production and tempo. Whether you want to call that cohesiveness or homogeneity is a matter of opinion.

My great, secret wish for this album was that it would feature a bunch of orchestra/strings, which would've meshed great with the dark academia vibe. Clearly, I didn't get it. Oh well

#i had a weird experience listening to this album last night #in that somewhere between 'down bad' and 'fresh out the slammer' i was kind of convinced that i hated it?#i mean. i didn't but I was fully expecting to really love it. all of her albums save rep and lover have been love at first sight for me #and with rep and lover i could pinpoint very specific things i didn't care for and sort of circumvent them if that makes sense #whereas listening to ttpd i just kind of felt like i was losing my mind #it definitely won me back as i kept listening #plus i was able to articulate the particular criticisms i had #so I've definitely landed safely in 'i like it territory'#but I've yet to see anyone on my tumblr dash expressing anything like my experience #so i figured I'd share #tay tay #pontifications and creations

When you grow up, you might feel afraid that you would hate your older self if you met them. It's weird to imagine that you could be so different than who you are now.

I think it's freeing, though, to have grown so much that you would almost be unrecognizable. There are still glimmers of who I was in the mosaic of who I am today, but I have grown and developed in such a way that... I am not just me anymore. I think that's a big aspect of growing. You won't always be this way, and that realization can make it easier to embody everything you want to be because now you aren't chained to the idea that you can only be one way, that you are beholden to everything around you.

like listen doctor who overall in every era has incredible moments and then a bunch of really rough ones. & if the ONLY era you criticize so harshly is 13's? you truly just have an issue w women

and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if those same things happen w ncuti's seasons. bc ppl just want the status quo (white male doctor) & excuse their discomfort by claiming bad writing when like. lbh w ourselves doctor who has never had Amazing writing. it has amazing actors, amazing characters, and the occasional brilliant episode/arc w a lot of dumb shit in between that ranges from kind of silly to so horrible it gives you a migraine. but that's kind of just. how the show is. it's not exclusive to any one doctor or showrunner.

#like did I love chibnall's writing? no I think he struggled really really hard w arcs and relationships #but I didn't dislike it any more than rtd or moffat who also struggled in a lot of aspects #like rtd couldn't write characters of color to save his life & frankly a lot of episodes were very boring #and moffat had a misogyny problem and a lot of his episodes felt like dw fanfiction not dw #by no means is chibnall unique for having bad writing in doctor who
