im jaebum mini series ft. jinyoung
one / two / three / four / five / six (final)  masterlist
Tumblr media
pairing: jaebum x reader x jinyoung  genre: friends, angst, jealousy  plot: you and jaebum have been really great friends. things have been going smoothly because neither of you were in a real relationship, flings? sure, but girlfriends/boyfriends? no. so when Jaebum starts going out with Emma (a bitch), you can’t help but act out <3 a/n: I'm contemplating making this a jinyoung fic lol. hope y’all enjoy. thanks for all the love and support <3
Normally, people have a grand gesture or a classic tale of how they gained their best friend. You knew this because people love the tales of first meets. They love flaunting that badge of “we connected right away” or “I hated you at first, but now I can’t imagine life without you” bullshit and of the titles they give each other.
Okay, so that was a little hypocritical.
You had called Jaebum your best friend, but technically, you had thought it. Thinking it in your head shouldn't count, saying it out loud, on the other hand, should since it's disgustingly cringe.
But it was a fact, he was your best friend. However, there was no interesting story of your first meet or the moment you became friends. It just happened.
One day you went to a party, Jaebum was a friend of a friend. You met again at other parties, exchanged socials. You posted a picture of your now-dead dog, Jaebum replies saying “cute dog, but cats are better.”
You met up for drinks, talked, had fun.
And there, you both were now best friends.
You hated it when people asked for stories. You can’t remember the first moment you met everyone. There is no way anyone could ever possibly walk into a room, look at a random good-looking guy and be like-
“Yup, that’s the one, there’s the man of my dreams,” Emma swooned as she squeezed Jaebum’s hand on the dinner table lovingly. Jaebum glanced at her offering her a smile. His eyes met yours but didn’t stay because he could read your face, and just know that you were having none of this love at first sight bullshit.
“Jaebum told me that he felt the same way when he looked at me too,” Emma added, haughty. Her blue eyes gawked at you, smugly, showing off this apparent love of the century.
You bit your lip to stop the laugh threatening to come out. You turned your gaze away from her to Jaebum who looked away as soon as his eyes met yours. A small chuckle left you, “Did he?”
Sweet Jesus, he was such a fucking liar. The party they met, he was trying to hook up with Sarah from France. He’d only ended up with Emma because Sarah had chosen Jackson over him.
Love at first sight, sure.
“Oh that’s lovely,” the male beside you said. You turned to him, your lips in a thin smile as you gave him the eye.
“I thought I said no talking,” you leaned, whispering into his ears with a smile.
“Oh, don’t be ridiculous,” he chuckled back, pecking your lips.
Ew. PDA.
“You’re so funny,” he smiled at you.
Dickdown 9/10 really needs to stop acting like he is your man. This is not a real date. You had told him that when you told him to come and eat with your friends. You were careful not to use the word ‘date’ and had reminded him all through the car ride.
But it seemed like playing boyfriend was his dream.
“Aww,” the evil witch cooed from the other side of the table. She looked over at Jaebum, who glanced straight across at you. “Aren’t they just adorable babe?”
Jaebum gave her halfhearted snort-smile combo, but Emma ignored him and continued. She looked at Dickdown 9/10 sitting directly across from her and asked, “So how did you both meet?”
“We’re just hooking up,” you cut him off before he could begin. “You asked me to bring someone because apparently seeing me coming here by myself makes you feel so sad. So I have bought someone, a friend-”
“We fuck,” Dickdown objected from beside you.
“A friend who I fuck,” you added, shrugging still looking at her. “Don’t make this more than this is.”
You gave her a beautiful smile.
Bitch.
She smiled, reflecting the same energy back.
“I hope you find a love divine as Jaebum and I did,” she smiled at you.
“I hope I fall in love with a random hook up one day, too,” you smiled back. You held up the beer in your hand, “For falling in love with trivial one night stands.”
“To finding love,” Jaebum gave you a stern look, as he lifted his glass. He turned to Emma placing a kiss on her forehead. “Wherever destiny takes you.”
“Oh baby,” she cooed, and you almost threw up in your mouth.
“I liked your toast better,” Dickdown smiled at you, and you saw the image of riding him on top the table flash through your mind.
“You are getting your dick sucked tonight,” you told him through your eyes. You didn’t know if he got the message, but the promise was already made.
Jaebum chortled from across the table. You turned around to face him, quirking your eyebrows at him. Jaebum just snorted as he shook his head.
“See that was fun, wasn’t it?” Jaebum jeered as you stood outside the bar waiting for Dickdown 9/10 to come back with his car. He was being responsible and did not drink; a true gentleman.
“Yeah, so fun! I am absolutely devastated the night has come to an end,” you pouted at him, making him roll his eyes. You shook your head as you faced the front.
“This is going to be the rest of your foreseeable future, you know,” you told him, as you turned to look at him. He stared at you, intently, but you didn't look away. Instead, you peered into his eyes, trying to tell him to snap out of it. “Are you sure you’re going to be okay?”
“Yes, I am okay.” He grinned at you, as your face dropped, disappointed.
You were hoping that would scare him, but he didn’t mind this dull life.
“This is what your fun night looks like now, and statistically, it will only get worse, unless you bring in a third party for fun.”
“Are you volunteering?”
“Make it just us two and I’ll make it the perfect fun night.” You smirked back. Your breath quickened as his brooding brown eyes dropped down to your lips. You licked it instinctively.
Jaebum’s eyes met yours, flickering down to your lips once more before he smiled, rolling his eyes as he looked away, “Stop that.”
“Stop what?” You smiled, innocently. You knew exactly what you were doing, but you didn’t care.
“Stop flirting with me.”
“Such accusations,” you gasped.
You winked.
“My god, you’re such a flirt,” Jaebum laughed, looking out to the road. “This is why Emma worries when we are together. She just doesn’t get that this is a joke.”
What joke? You mean it.
Kinda.
“Emma would be jealous of a coconut tree if you stood too close to it, Jae,” you retorted, making him give you a pointed look. “That girl is loco.”
“You think too badly of her,” he smiled, nudging his shoulder against yours. “Once you get to know her, she’s not bad. You would like her.”
“I’m sure if people spent enough time with anyone, they’d start to like them. It’s probably a minute form of Stockholm syndrome,” you shrugged at him, facing the front. You noticed as Dickdown 9/10 bought the car around. “You couldn’t get away from her, so you decided to like her.”
“You’re crazy,” Jaebum told you, a smile on his lips. He watched as you walked away from him, towards the car. He followed a few steps behind you, “This guy seems like a dick. Who the fuck doesn’t drink at bars?”
“A responsible dick who has to drive me home, and will be rewarded with very nice dominated sexual acts,” you laughed when Jaebum grimaced. “Yeah, he’s a bit of a wanker, but he isn’t too bad.”
“What’s his name?” Jaebum asked. The car stopped a few feet away from you, you turned to face Jaebum with wide eyes. When you didn’t reply he smirked, “You don’t know his name.”
“I do,” you argued.
Fucking shit, you didn’t. He was Dickdown 9/10.
You cursed yourself, you should’ve listened when he introduced himself when you both walked in.
“He’s just a friend, Jae,” you drolled, giving him a shrug.
“I’m just a friend and you know my name.”
“But that’s cause I love you my pumpkin pie,” you gave him mocking smile, as you brought your hand to your heart. “Now, bye.”
“Text me when you get home,” he called out as you opened the passenger seat.
“You too!” You stuck out the window and waved him bye.
“They were nice,” Dickdown 9/10 said as he drove away. You turned over to him, a small smile on your lips.
You reached over undoing his pants.
“And you were a good boy tonight,” you leaned over, kissing his neck, “such a good boy.”
You leaned down, wetting your lips before it wrapped around his cock.
“Fuck,” he groaned.
//
Was this a bad thing that bad people normal did? Definitely.
You knew that you didn’t need another person’s advice or a search on Google to know that this was a bad idea. Out there in the world of other judging people, you would be called a home-wrecker, a whore or something along those lines of insults.
You would have been affected by those words if you were say, five years younger. But when they were the actual and honest truth, why not take it with grace.
It wasn’t like you were actually going to try to break Jaebum and his lovely bitch of a girlfriend Emma up. You were just going to like him and wait for them to break up, which they will inevitably for sure.
Until then, you just need to relax and chill.
And that started with getting rid of the arm wrapped around your waist so early in the morning.
You stared at your reflection in the mirror as you lay there with his front pressed against your back.
You should’ve gotten rid of him last night.
But he was so good at dinner, you felt bad telling him to go after he did that and lived up to his nickname, so you let him stay.
Still, it was time to wish him bon voyage.
But you had too. You couldn’t do relationships.
It’s better to end it now before he starts to think this is more.
“Next time just find someone on Tinder,” you thought to yourself as you glared at your reflection. At least if it is a stranger on Tinder you wouldn’t be losing the best dick you got after dinner with your friends. But it was time for all good things to end.
You removed his arms off you and sat up on your bed staring at him. He stirred a bit at first, and then went back to sleep.
You sighed, getting up from your bed. You grabbed a t-shirt lying around that ended on your mid-thigh. You looked around for something, and decided to open the curtains was the most annoying thing you could.
“What?” he groaned, his voice all sexy and sleepy. You turned around with the light streaming in from behind you. It was a wonderful sunny day, and his voice was making you want to get back in there and have good and deserving good-bye sex.
But you stood your ground and folded your arms across your chest, “Time to leave, bud.”
“Wow, no good morning,” he moaned, but got up nonetheless. You grabbed his clothes and handed them to him.
“Thank you for the wonderful times, you were amazing.”
“This sounds like a goodbye,” he snorted putting his shirt over his head.
You looked at him with a sad smile, “This is goodbye, forever.”
“Woah,” he frowned as you gave him his wallet and car keys.
“I think it’s only fair for you to know,” you gave him a supportive smile, “You were a solid nine out of ten. A true gifts from Heaven.”
“Why not a ten?” He asked, and you frowned thinking about it.
“You were great, so I don’t think the missing point is your fault,” you bit your lip contemplating.
“Maybe its cause you’re dead inside?” He smiled like he had done something.
You nodded, agreeing, “That’s probably it. Your dick is missing that one point because it couldn’t bring me back to live.”
“Well,” you kissed his cheek and pushed him out of your room. “Bye-bye.”
You closed your door and patted your back, “That wasn’t bad. That was very good.”
//
“Where’s your boy toy?” Jaebum asked as he paid the cashier for his coffee.
You frowned, “You’re making me sound like a cougar.”
“And that’s bad?”
“Definitely not, that is goals. But I am still in my twenties. If I was a cougar at this age, that would be illegal.” You told him before turning to the barrister to place your order.
“Hi, how may I help you?” The perky girl said, not looking up from the screen.
“A caramel Frappuccino,” you sang, rolling your tongue.
“God, you’re embarrassing.” Jaebum sighed from beside you.
“Hey-”
“That’ll be 7.50,” she pointed to the EFTPOS machine. You placed your card on it waiting for the beep. You looked up at the girl, getting the receipt, “Thank you.”
“How come you wanted to hang?” You asked Jaebum as you settled on a table towards the back of the cafe.
“Can't I just casually want to have a chat with you?”
“We’ve met three times already this week,” you rolled your eyes at his pout. “And asking me for coffee? That’s a bit formal.”
“Well, it is formal business,” Jaebum placed his intertwined fingers on the table with a proud smile. “I wanted to formally tell you that my book has been approved for a second viewing.”
“Oh my god!” You gasped, your eyes widening. You froze for a second, before chuckling, tears in your eyes. “Oh my god, that’s amazing. I’m so proud of you. You worked so hard. Oh my gosh-”
“I know,” he clasped your hand in his. He looked into your eyes, his eyes glistening as he gave you a sincere smile. “Thank you. I couldn’t have done it without you.”
“All I did was get you drunk,” you breathed, chuckling as you wiped your eyes before the tears ran free.
You were not going to cry in a cafe, no matter how fucking happy you were.
Jaebum just laughed, throwing his head back. He sobered and started explaining how he got told the notified, and what changes they wanted to make to the book.
“They want to change Persephone?” You frowned, she was your favourite.
“They said something about Greek mythology-”
“Duh.”
“And something about it being impressionable to young readers,” he bit his lips.
Before you could say anything, the waitress came with two cups and a piece of chocolate cake. You looked at her, managing to give her a tight smile, “Thank you.”
“Thank you,” Jaebum smiled at her, before looking at you. He stared at your frowning face and passed you a spoon. “Here.”
You took it off him and took a bite of the cake.
“I’m not going to let them,” he said after a moment.
You looked up, staring into his eyes as he looked at you with a knowing smile.
“I’ll go to another publisher if I have to, they can’t take her away.”
“Jae,” you sighed, moved by his words. Persephone was your character; the one you had helped build. She was like your child and fictional form at once. “You just saying that is enough. You don’t have to for me-”
“She was is my favourite, y/n,” he held your gaze, and your heart swelled. “It won’t be the same without her. I can’t.”
“It’ll work out,” you patted his hand. You spooned a piece of cake and held it to him. He took the bite, licking his lip as he leaned back into his seat.
“I hope so,” his eyes darted to the doors. He held up a hand as if to grab someone’s attention. You turned to find a very attractive male walking in. Jaebum continued from behind you, “That’s why I invited the editor for a meeting.”
You turned to Jaebum, wide-eyed, “What?!”
“Smile, he’s here.” Jaebum gave you a knowing look. “You helped build her, maybe your views and ideas would persuade him.”
“Hey, Jaebum,” the good-looking editor held out his hand. Jaebum got up shaking it.
“Mr Park,” Jaebum smiled politely.
“Jinyoung is fine,” he smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners.
He was cute.
“This is y/n,” Jaebum gestured towards you. You just smiled, not sure if you should get up too. Jinyoung smiled, nodding, as he seated at the end of the four-sided table. “Have you ordered?”
“Yup, just as I walked in,” his voice was deep and soothing. “Do you want to talk around or get straight down to it?”
“Straight to it,” Jaebum snorted, both of them relaxing into their seats. The waitress placed the drink in front of Jinyoung, a blush blooming on her cheeks as he thanked her with a sweet smile.
You just sat back and watched him.
“I heard you have a problem with my suggestions?” He pulled out a few papers from his suitcase.
What a cunt carrying a suitcase, pretty handsome though.
“Well, that’s only because you want to get rid of arguably the most important character,” Jaebum laughed, but his tone tight.
One hour, a whole hour of going back and forth. You spent a good ten minute on a monologue of exactly why Persephone was a good character, and a great role model for young readers; especially girls.
“But would parents be comfortable with letting their kids read about a female-”
“Who fights, swears and chooses her sexual partners?” You cut him off raising an eyebrow at him. Jinyoung smiled at you, arrogantly, like what you were saying was of no value. “How are her actions any different to the male main character? Xavier does the same if not worse.”
“But parents, Miss-”
“Y/n is fine,” you smiled and continued. “Don’t be a pussy, Jinyoung. Parents don’t read books before giving them to their kids. And this is young adult, not primary school kids.”
You saw Jaebum still as he licked his lips, holding back a smile.
“Parents follow reviews,” Jinyoung’s smile grew as he leaned towards you, “Good parents do, at least.”
Red. You saw red.
“How about a compromise?” Jaebum said, making you both turn towards him. “Persephone stays, but only two partners; the rest stays the same.”
“I could convince the Board with that,” Jinyoung nodded, he glanced at you his lips quirking up. “Feminism sexuality isn’t defined by the number of people someone can sleep with. It’s about owning it. A smaller number but the same attitude will still get the same message across.”
You didn’t say anything.
What he said did make sense.
Shitty cunthead.

Someone rubs you the wrong way with...
Enjoy!
Victor Creed:
Tumblr media
Being at a party means enjoying yourself, having an unforgettable time with your friends and your boyfriend Victor how come with you just to see you swing those hips in your little black dress. For Victor, you were irresistible so much that he wanted to grab you and throw you in the nearest booth just to ravish your body. As he watched from the distance he saw you dancing with your friends laughing and twirling, enjoying every second. You looked to check on Victor as he took his last swing of the liquor, winking at his delicious lover. As you twirled back to your friend you immediately felt a sweaty and greasy hand on your lower back traveling down south. An unruly chill walked up your spine making you move away from the feeling turning around seeing a drunk man not speaking a word letting his hands guide him to you.
Your eyes travel to Victor’s spot seeing the table empty and as the hand approached your body you saw Victor extending his hand digging his claws into the man’s arm, yelling out a cry of mercy.
‘Be happy that’s the only thing I pierce with my claws.’ he growls out through the music.
The man kneels down from the immense pain begging Victor to release him. After a few moments, Victor lets him go his claws bloody swiping them along with his coat, partially cleaning them. He extends his clean hand to you
‘Let’s go home, kitten.’
Loki Laufeyson:
Tumblr media
Dates with Loki can be only one word... relaxing. He loves to take you on strolls around parks as he holds your hand and rambles about his past week. It really relaxes both of you. But in between the date you love to get your dose of caffeine. He obliges as you two make way to the nearest coffee shop sitting on the terrace enjoying the view and Loki (duh). As you drink your coffee you can feel the waiter staring at you trying to make eye contact. You knew if you did that he would get a wrong idea. Nonetheless, you enjoyed your time with your lover.
As the last drop of coffee was drank you two stood up walking out of the coffee shop. Grabbing your bag you saw the waiter sating in front of you holding a coffee to go with numbers scribbled on the back.
‘This one is on me.’ he awkwardly says as he extends the coffee.
You immediately wave your hands in front of you not wanting the coffee ‘Thank you but I had enough coffee for today.’
The waiter instead of pushing the coffee into your hands forcefully.
‘I think that the lady said no.’ Loki says calmly as he approaches you from behind putting his arms on your back reassuring you that everything is alright.
Loki leans closer to him ‘Better run away peasant before I freeze you into a block of ice.’ Loki’s skin starts to mix with his blue and his beige tone.
The waiter looks horrified as he stumbles back into the safeness of the coffee shop. Loki turns to face you smiling and kissing your forehead.
‘Let’s continue our date, love.’
Thor Odinson:
Tumblr media
Thor loved being able to hang out with you without any other team members because he let’s his inner ‘cuddle monster’ free. So it was natural for him to be handsy in public as you too walked around town. It would be always around 7 pm when the town starts to quiet down. He loves to dress in matching hoodies so people can get a feel that you and he are together. But not always, once a guy walked to you as you were waiting for Thor to exit the HQ and while you patiently waited the rando started making small talk about your orange hoodie, as you politely answer it cutting it to a bare minimum. The guy quickly caught your wave of ‘fuck-off’ vibes he forcefully grabs your hand making you face him.
‘Let me go, asshole!’ you scream out trying to pull your arm from his grasp.
‘Come on, just one drink, lovely.’ he says as he tries to walk away with you.
‘You mortal worm, you get your hand off my woman!’ Thor screams out forcing thunders to fall next to his body, not to harm you.
The guy lets go petrified of his near future. As you run into Thor’s arms seeing his eyes filling with anger and thunders.
Bucky Barnes:
Tumblr media
You loved going to nature with Bucky as his favorite thing to do was feeding the ducks. He loved seeing the ducks gather around him as he crumbles the bread and sprinkling it around his feet feeling like a proud mother. And who better to enjoy it than with you. As Bucky waited for you to get off work he saw in the glass building where you worked a guy taking up your personal space. Bucky knew that you could handle it but something gave him a bad vibe about it. As Bucky held the fresh bread he bought he runs to you grabbing his shoulder, pulling him forcefully back making him almost stumble. To be honest Bucky doesn't need a GOOD reason to save you from someone. He just wanted to protect you and hey when he saw a dude trying to hit on you he WILL attack. As Bucky started to fight with the man he hit him with the bread multiple times, breaking it in half with the only second hit. Lucky stops after a while he stands over the man throwing the bread on his face
'Don't touch her ever again.' He hisses
Steve Rogers
Tumblr media
If anything Steve didn't like it was galas. He doesn’t like the feel of fakeness from the smiles, dresses, and especially people. Steve always had to hold up a ‘smile’ for the people there which tired him out. And that’s where you come in you keep him smiling by making silly remarks or some jokes (which most of them don’t really land but still they make him smile) but still, every time you are with him he keeps you within arms reach because the last and only time he didn’t a drunk socialite approached you trying to get a ‘picture with Captian America’s lover’. Steve jumped in between of you while the socialite grabbing his hand twisting it in an uncomfortable position. Let’s just say that Steve cracked more than a smile that night.
‘I’m sorry darling, that won’t happen again.’
Bruce Wayne:
Tumblr media
The problem being with Bruce is always the same, paparazzi. Bruce loved taking you on outdoor dates but that always meant having maybe 4 minutes of peace and quiet and after that the flashing cameras in your face or in the distance following your moves. You know what you were signing up to do when you are in a relationship with Bruce but sometimes it gets intense. Each time Bruce does his best to shelter you from them but sometimes it’s really futile. And you just let it be, as the hoard of paparazzi run towards you asking you question solely around Bruce. They can range from tame to very rude but you just keep saying in your head
‘10 minutes of this torture and the rest of the day with Bruce.’
Clark Kent:
Tumblr media
It all happened one day as Clark was driving you to meet his mother and as the two of you arrived at the small house Clark immediately sighed thumping his head on the steering wheel.
‘What’s wrong?’ you ask perplexed
Clark huffs out looking at you ‘I hear the chatter of two people I despised in high school.’
‘Bullies?’
Clark nods as he exits the car holding your hand in his and as you two were just about to step on the porch a loud voice stopped you.
‘Clark Kent? THE Clark Kent?!’ one of the two men says his eyes widened in shock.
The two men quickly run to the both of you looking at Clark seeing how he outgrew them.
‘Look at you a real! You are tall as hell.’ said the other man
‘Johnson, Marty.’ Clarks says their names.
The two men gawked over him but their eyes quickly fell on you. Looking at you like a piece of meat. Clark saw their gaze and quickly wrapped one arm over your shoulder.
‘Fellas...’ Clark says in a growl daring the attention away from you.
As much as he wanted to pummel those two the ground he felt his mother watching him from inside of the house.
‘Let’s go, babe, I can’t wait for you to try my mother’s homemade apple pie.’
Arthur Curry:
Tumblr media
With Arthur, it’s really intense. Once at a bar Arthur sat next to you talking about his day as he put his hand on your tight circling it softly, making you melt at his touch. But not even 3 minutes later another hand is on your other tight, making you yelp in surprise. Arthur saw the man grinning wickedly at him angering Arthur by the second.
‘You are done, asshole.’ Arthur says as he starts to punch the man in his face, beating him up badly, staring a bar fight between them. The man got some shots at Arthur but you knew that Arthur was just getting started. You watched from a safe distance not wanting to catch someone's hands. As Arthur looked down at the beaten man he flips his hair back looking at you, smiling.
‘Let’s go home, doll. Apparently, we came to the wrong place where men don’t know how to treat a lady.’
Orm Marius:
Tumblr media
When someone approaches you in an unfitting manner Orm will let out his ‘Ocean Master’ rage out going so far to hurt the person. For example, one time he was walking you home from a date when a man slapped your ass. As you turned around you saw the man grinning like a 5-year-old boy but as Orm turned to face him you saw the smile drop in seconds as he was slammed on the nearby wall being pulled up by the collar of his shirt, gasping for air. That was the first time you saw him really angry. His eyes throwing daggers at the man, his hands clutching the neckline of the shirt and his voice filling with threats/ promises what he will do to him. With a little bit of persuasion from you, Orm lets go of the man as he runs away. Orm turns to you kissing your lips softly as he holds your face in his hands gently.
‘I’m sorry I couldn’t prevent that miscreant from touching you but it won’t happen again.’
The Joker:
Tumblr media
With J it’s really straight forward, someone touches you he will shoot them. But if they touch you while he is watching, for example, like 4 nights ago at his club. As you were at the bar ordering a drink for yourself you felt a man grinding against your ass as his hands were firmly on your waist. You pull away from him even pushing him away but to no prevail. Until Frost walks through the crowd of people dancing on the dance floor yanking him away from you and guiding him to the back rooms. As you look upon the VIP floor you see J standing there watching you. You mouth a ‘thank you’ to him and walk to his section to join.
A few days and as you were in the penthouse you hear from the floor beneath screams and a loud bang. Upon hearing that a few minutes later J walks into the penthouse covered in small drops of blood, smiling. You don’t ask anything as he walks to you kissing you roughly, he pulls away and says.
‘No one touches you but me, sweetheart.’
Duncan Vizla:
Tumblr media
(btw, for you Duncan-ho’s like me if you haven’t watched the death stranding trailer go watch it. Mads will star in the game)
With Duncan, everything is very low-key when you are on dates with him, so it can no surprise as you told him about your day over a small dinner and about the guy you are working with. As you tell him about his nasty personality, his crooked smile, and unflattering comments it can to you no surprise when you heard about the guy absent from work due to a broken arm. You knew that Duncan intervened, so when you comforted him he replies coldly.
‘I just taught him some manners and ethics and gave him punishments for his behavior. That’s all.’

Big Brother!Jack Kelly au
ok i felt the need to write this au bc i desperately wanted to read one, but unfortunately there is a MAJOR lack of any of these!!!!
(disclaimer: i’m not much of a writer so this is gonna be ROUGH, just bare with me hehe.) (follow up note: if you are a writer and want to take & edit this, PLEASE DO!!! just tag me pls so i can see your masterpiece)
okay here we go folks:
The sun was beginning to rise, its rays peeking out from just above the skyline of Manhattan and spreading out onto the floors of the lodging house. I was already awake and laying in my bunk - I was in one of those moods where I couldn’t sleep because I was too excited for the day to begin.
As quietly as I could, I jumped out of bed and headed for the sinks to wash up for the day. My mind was racing, “Do I have everything I need? Are the other guys awake yet? I need to wake up those idiots. God, they better be awake, they know how important today is, they just have to be up. Immediately after I make sure they’re up, I need to run over to the parlor and make sure everything will be set for this afternoon.”
My mind kept going at a million miles a minute until my train of thought was interrupted by a pat on the back. “Hiya Jack,” Bumlets says behind me, “Are ya almost ready to go? Crutchy, Race, Skittery, and I already snuck all the decorations downstairs, behind Kloppsman’s desk.”
I gave out a sigh of relief. Good, the guys are up. “Yeah, just gimme a minute, would ya? I want to look my best for my sister.” The 4 of them nod, and let me know that they’d head over to the parlor to begin set up.
Today marks exactly 1 year, 3 months, and 18 days since the strike was over, but most importantly, it’s my little sister’s 10th birthday. Ever since our parents left to go out west, I’d been stuck here with the other newsies in the lodging house, while Anna had been staying with a friend of hers from school. The family couldn’t afford to keep both of us, so I insisted they take Anna. We don’t get to see much of each other, usually just on our birthdays and holidays, and the occasional visit to Medda’s. But today she finally hits double digits, and I just knew I had to do something special for her.
I finally get to the parlor, and I see that Race and Crutchy are setting up some games, Bumlets is hanging streamers, and Skittery’s spreading out balloons. It’s not much, but hey, you can only do so much on a Newsie’s salary. Denton said he’d bring over a cake, and Medda offered to bring a few snacks. I’m so lucky to have such great people in our lives.
Just as the last of the decorations are being put up, Davey, Les, and Sarah walk in with a wrapped present in tow. “Uh... What’s this Davey?” I ask.
“Oh you know, nothing big. All the Newsies chipped in a little bit to buy Anna a new doll and some clothes to go with it. We didn’t really know what else to get her, so this is the best we came up with,” he chuckles.
A smile spread across my face as I pat Davey on the back, “It’s perfect, Dave. Thank you.” Dave takes the gift and walks over to put it down on a table, and I pause a moment to properly greet Les and Sarah.
For the next 3 hours, everyone in the parlor scrambles to make sure everything will be perfect for Anna. I send Les to grab a couple of the other younger Newsies and go to Anna, to keep her occupied until the party is ready to start. I give him specific directions to not return with her until 12, noon. In the mean time, we make sure that Kid, Specs, and Pie Eater have already taken charge of the rest of the Newsies and that they’re already out and selling their papes. Today was a special one, and I wanted everyone involved in my sister’s birthday, and if that meant the boys got an earlier start to their day just so that they’d be done and ready to go to the party by noon, then so be it.
Time races by and before I knew it, it was 11:55 - the party was supposed to begin soon. I holler at everyone to stop what they’re doing, and wait a second until I had all eyes on me. “EVERYONE! Anna will be here in 5 MINUTES, so soon we’ll need to hide!!” Suddenly, the parlor was in chaos again. Boys everywhere were frantically trying to finish whatever task they had at hand, and leap from place to place to find somewhere to hide. I look over and see Medda and Denton laughing hysterically at all of the commotion and for some reason that gives me a little bit of peace. I check the time again and it’s 11:59, so I dart over to close the door, shut the curtains and crouch down right near the door, so that I’m the first face Anna sees. Right at noon, I could hear Les’s voice outside - leave it to Les to always follow my directions. The door opens up, and the entire room erupts in hoots and hollers, “SURPRISE!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNA!!”
Curtains fly open and lights turn back on, and it’s hard not to see the shock on my girl’s face. I laugh at her expression and grab her in a hug. “Happy birthday, munchkin, are ya surprised?,” I whisper to her.
“Surprised? Jackie, I think that’s an understatement. You did this?”
She steps back from me in awe and is immediately engulfed by a crowd of Newsies. Anna takes turns with each of the boys, giving them hugs and saying thank you to each of them. I back away from the crowd, but I don’t dare to take an eye off of Anna. She’s so graceful, and kind; she gets that from our mother, you know. The boys love her, she’s like a sister to each of them, too.
As the party goes on, everyone has a great time. We all eat together, and play games, and recall our favorite stories about Anna. Les hands her the gift that they all bought for her and from the moment she first lays a finger on it, she just doesn’t want to let it go.
After some time, Anna walks up to me and whispers in my ear, “Jackie, can I talk to you outside?” A flash of worry runs through my veins; did she not like the party after all?
“Sure munchkin, let’s go.” She takes my hand, and I follow the small girl outside. There’s a couple of chairs right outside the door and we each take one. “Is everything alright? Did you not like your birthday party?”
“The party is great. I’m really happy that you and the boys and Sarah and Medda and Denton did this for me. I think this may be the best birthday ever... But... Jackie, I miss mama and papa,” Anna says, in a hushed voice, “I wish they were here to celebrate with me. With us. I wish we could be a whole family today. That’s what I wished when I blew out my candles.”
I sighed, knowing that deep down, I’d wished the same thing. “I know munchkin... I know... I wish the same thing.” I pull her up out of her chair and sit her in my lap, hugging her to my chest. I wish I had more to say to her, but I just don’t have the words, nor the heart to do so.
“Well, we’ll be your whole family today, Anna.” The two of us look up at the voice - it was Davey, standing at the door. “I’m sorry, I know you two probably wanted privacy, but I had to come out here to take out the trash, and I couldn’t help but hear your wish.”
Anna looked up at me, as if to ask if it was okay for her to stand and give Dave a hug. I nodded, and she leaves my lap to share the biggest hug with him. I stand up after a moment, and the two of us lead her back into the parlor.
“EVERYONE LISTEN UP,” shouts Davey over all the noise, “PLEASE, LET’S RAISE A GLASS!” All voices die down, and everyone takes their cups and raises them up. “To Anna!,” David shouts.
“TO ANNA!,” the crowd echos.
“To another 10 years!”
“TO ANOTHER 10 YEARS!”
“To our Newsie family!”
“ TO OUR NEWSIE FAMILY!!!”
Everyone shouts and cheers and takes a drink from their cup, and suddenly the world ain’t so bad. I glance over at Anna, who’s been lifted up onto Bumlet’s shoulders, her smile being the biggest one I’d ever seen on her face.
Yeah... the world ain’t so bad after all. Happy birthday, munchkin.

At last I see the (sun) light
Good – morning this time!
Yeah, as predicted, yesterday ran very late, so I decided to leave writing my report for the next day and just go to bed already, haha. I’m starting my report in the morning while I’m trying to think of plans for today, so I might just drop the report and finish it later, but here we go – Tokyo Disneyland!
Pictures will be up later today!
It’s definitely not my first time to Tokyo Disneyland, although usually I take the subway to get there. Since I have my JR pass still active and I haven’t been using it much in Tokyo, I refused to take a mode of transportation I had to pay for, so I first went to Tokyo station with the Yamanote line. From there, it’s 15 minutes with the Keiyo line, but that’s all the way at the other end at the station, so you can seriously add another 15 minutes to the travel time. I wasn’t exaggerating when I called Tokyo station a separate city!
The Yamanote line came to an abrupt halt halfway through as the emergency brake had been activated, but it must be a false alarm or otherwise easily solved issue, as we continued a couple of minutes later. It was indeed quite the walk to the Keiyo line, but they put up signs every five steps, so at least it was a very easy road to follow.
And then Maihama station! The weather had turned out to be incredibly nice today, with blue skies so bright I could easily see the Skytree and – was that the snowy top of Mount Fuji? It sure was! That’s how clear the skies were, haha.
Anyway, the walk from the station was a bit different. I know they’re working on a new area inside the park, but apparently they’re also doing extensive redevelopments, because the main entrance was under covers and there were cranes surrounding the castle. After the entrance, the first Halloween decorations came in sight, and part of the fun: watching everyone’s costumes! It’s only during Halloween season that you’re allowed to dress up in Tokyo Disneyland as an adult, and lots of people make use of that opportunity. Some costumes are so good I had to blink and stare to realize they were not the official cast members (which is, incidentally, why it’s not allowed to dress up the rest of the year – you might confuse the kids). Also, it makes for fun situations, like Alice standing in line for lunch with the Queen of Hearts or Belle posing with the park version of Gaston while 5 other princesses watch with interest, haha.
I was inside a little after opening, so I lingered around to wait for the first parade: the Spooky Boo Halloween parade! It’s held twice over the day and thus a short one, but I love Halloween, so I was curious to see what they’d pulled. The parade mostly features the best known characters: Mickey and his friends. They taught us a dance and halfway through, the parade came to a halt for a dance performance. The dancing cast members had gorgeous costumes! They were really into it too, so that was a joy to watch, and I’m kinda sad I couldn’t get a good full view of them on my camera from where I was standing to show you guys, only glimpses in between people’s heads.
I was in for something sweet now, so I wandered into Fantasyland for what I thought was a churro, but ended up being a tipo torta, which – I’m not entirely sure what it is, but it was delicious! I got it in purple sweet potato flavor, because I felt obliged after Okinawa haha, and purple is a Halloween color here, so the sweet potato from Okinawa gets used liberally this time of the year.
I had chosen the Haunted Mansion as my appropriate first ride of today, because duh, Halloween. The wait was 40 minutes when I joined, which was okay if it weren’t for the hot sun, so I was glad to make it inside for the Nightmare before Christmas version of this ride. I really love it a lot – I think it was summer 2017 that I last saw the ride in its original form, oops.
After that, I went back inside again for another favorite ride: Mickey’s Philharmagic Orchestra. There was a small wait here, and a ton of kids who got really into the screening (it’s 4D, so the 3D effects are heavy and you get sprayed with water and scented air in between), so that was kinda cute, haha. They were all making grabby hands at the apple pie and Ariel’s gems.
Once outside, I stumbled upon some character meet and greets in Fantasyland, and then right into the Dreaming Up parade. It’s a lovely one, but I’ve seen it twice now fairly recently, so I wasn’t going to wait on the floor for it. Didn’t have to! I got an okay spot for the visually most impressive floats, so that was a nice little coincidence, haha.
Next up was Pirates of the Caribbean, which I love, but the drop is the scariest thing I do in Disneyland, so I wasn’t super pleased about being put in the front row, haha. I lived, but it took a while for my pulse to calm down. (I’m big on the thrill rides, you can tell.) It’s still super fun, and outside was a band of pirates playing! I think they were kind of trying to spread the crowds today, as it was probably a bit busier than initially expected due to the weather and a couple of rides that tend to draw crowds were closed for today.
After some lunch, wandering around for the views and some window shopping, I settled down next to Snow White’s wishing well to wait for round two of the Spooky Boo parade. About ten Snow Whites and other princesses showed up to take pictures by the well, haha. Sadly, the parade only made a quick round here without dancing in between, but I did get much better shots of the floats now!
And it wasn’t that bad, because I had wisely gotten a fast pass for Haunted Mansion at the same time as the parade, so now I didn’t have to rush as the parade was over quite quickly. I didn’t see the Haunted Mansion wait go down to under my 40 minutes anymore, so that fast pass had been a good call. (I think they’re connected to your ticket now, because I had to scan my entrance ticket and not the fast pass receipt to get in line.)
After that, the iconic ride: It’s a Small World! It’s still fun, and I think I’m mostly past my trauma over the song now, haha. I couldn’t help wanting to take pictures here and there, even though I have a ton already. Spotting the recently added Disney characters is quite fun.
It was getting dark quickly now, and I noticed I was getting a bit bumped out. I kept getting lost in the dark and with the covered parts of the park, so I eventually told myself to just get something sweet and then decide whether I was going to call it an uncharacteristically early day.
As it turned out I just needed food, haha. A hot dog for lunch wasn’t sufficient to get me through the complete afternoon, who knew! I got some ice coffee for the caffeine rush (bad, I know, but hey), bought a little gift for a friend, and was just in time to see the electrical parade Dreamlights. This one changed a little a couple of years ago, but overall it’s still the same one as the one I saw in 2010. It’s still fun, even though the song is even catchier than It’s a small world, haha. They added a tiny something that I spotted right away: Alice was riding a giant teacup on top of the Cheshire cat, rather than the cat’s back proper. I was a bit further away this time, so I got some nice shots of the full floats. I eh, have plenty of close-ups from earlier years, haha.
I then finally made the decision to just get the new Tangled popcorn bucket, which is shaped like the floating lantern from the movie with a little Pascal the chameleon to sit on your shoulder on the strap. There’s a light inside, so that makes for lovely sights in the evening, although the amount of popcorn (caramel flavor at this stand) that came with it was – worrying, haha. I did manage to finish it all though, despite not being the biggest popcorn eater, but whoa. (You can get the bucket separately from the popcorn so you won’t have to clean it, but the popcorn separately means you get two cartons of them, since that’s how much can fit into the bucket.)
Newly invigorated, I decided to get back to attractions. I went into the Enchanted Tiki room first as it was nearby and I love the songs and Stitch. It’s very much a kids attraction and I very much don’t care, haha. If anything, the line is non-existent here and you just have to wait for the next performance to begin.
I then found the ball game stand, which I suck at, but that’s okay, because you get to pick a really nice exclusive pin if you lose, so I got the Minnie one, haha. Making my way back to Fantasyland from there, I hopped into Philharmagic again, the line gone and just having to wait for the next performance to start. There’s a merit in staying late, haha. I rushed to Peter Pan next, where the wait was down to 15 minutes. It’s a fun ride, but it’s over so fast that I can’t justify standing in line for 50 minutes for it.
Finally, with ten minutes until park closure to go, I went to Pooh’s Hunny Hunt – and they closed the line after me, oops. Two more ladies came rushing in via the fastpass entrance, but that was it. Pooh’s Hunny Hunt is a fun and unique ride, but since I’m not a big fan of Pooh bear, I refuse to wait for him for 70+ minutes, haha. This worked, even though it was still about 10 minutes. Around park closure! Wow.
There were still surprisingly many people in the park as I made my way to the exit, some even still on the way into the park. I wonder at what time they can actually close the gates… Hopefully the park members work in shifts, yikes.
After a quick last look in the Bon Voyage store just outside the park I made my way to the station, where I had to wait for the next Keiyo line train as this one was… very full. At 10:30 PM. Ah, the Disney magic, haha. (The people from Disneysea also gather at this station.) Thankfully that got me a front row place in line for the next train, so I could sit (!) until the terminal station of Tokyo, where it was another brisk walk to the Yamanote line and finally, back to my hotel.
So here I am now. I took a shower last night and fell asleep almost right away. Didn’t sleep through my alarm at least, but I did put it on snooze and only got up as late as possible to still eat breakfast at the hotel here, haha.
Today should be a little calmer. I might do some karaoke and find a café I read about opening some months ago, but other than that, I don’t really have plans. Sadly, the weather is getting bad again starting tonight, thanks to yet another typhoon making rounds. It should be gone by the time my return flight is scheduled, though.
Yikes, time flies. It’s Thursday and I’m flying back on Monday! Ack. Sadly I don’t think many of my Tokyo side tips can go through, if any. A bit of a waste of my JR pass, but it’s long since paid itself back and hey, I will still use it for the Narita Express to the airport if nothing else. I don’t want to over-exert myself or put myself into dangerous situations, so I might just stick to Tokyo until the last day (although Saturday should be alright weather wise, at least less rainy, but again, dangerous situations). And hey, I haven’t gone back to just Tokyo on 2 separate trips because I hate it here, haha. Although with all the things I’ve seen around here, I might have to cash in on that extra luggage… After that huge book I found the other day, I’m already nearing my limit, and the cost of overweight luggage is as much as an extra bag at Don Quijote would cost, so uh. I can still think about it until 24 hours before the flight, so that’s what I will do, haha.
Time to head out. Photos coming up soon, see you later!

A prompt when tj is taking Cyrus out on a date but he doesn’t know where to go so he asks amber and she recommends to go to the Ferris wheel that she took andi too
So sorry this was late, anon! I’m not sure if this is what you’re looking for but I hope you like it!
Ferris Wheel (AO3)
“Movies… No, we did that last week… Museum… No, there aren’t any good exhibits right now… Maybe a picnic?“
Dropping his phone on the table and sitting back in his chair, TJ groaned in frustration. He was at The Spoon, alone, waiting for his lunch order. On the table in front of him was a list of activities he had wracked his brain to think of. Unfortunately, the list was short.
As his stomach grumbled, a plate containing a burger and fries was placed in front of him along with a glass of coke.
He looked up to thank his server. “Thanks, Amber.”
She flashed him a friendly smile before tilting her head to the side. “You look like you’re having an issue there. Can I help?”
TJ sighed. “My one-month anniversary with Cyrus is coming up.”
At that, Amber perked up and she slid into the seat across from him. “Oohh, one month already? How sweet! I remember when you could barely get the words out to ask him out.”
The boy frowned at her. “Gee, thanks for the reminder about my disastrous confession.”
It was a month ago when he and Cyrus were having a friendly lunch at The Spoon. TJ had stuttered and accidentally knocked over Cyrus’ milkshake. Then, while helping Amber clean up the mess, he had blurted the words out to the stunned younger boy.
Amber chuckled. “Didn’t seem disastrous to me. Cyrus said ‘yes’.”
At the memory of that moment, TJ’s lips quirked into a smile. “Yeah, I guess.”
“So, what’s the problem?”
Right. Back to the matter at hand.
TJ sighed again. “I want to plan something special but I can’t think of anything!” He showed her the list. “We’ve done almost everything! Movies. Museums. Picnics.” TJ threw up his hands in frustration. “I officially suck as a boyfriend.”
Across from him, Amber raised an amused brow. “You’re overthinking this.”
TJ picked at his fries. “He makes me really happy and he deserves the best.”
For a moment, the waitress sat in silent contemplation. TJ began to eat his fries, fiercely biting into them in frustration.
“Hey, isn’t the carnival in town?” Amber asked, suddenly.
That got TJ’s attention. “It is?”
Amber was smiling, excitedly, now as she leaned forward in her seat. “Yes, it’s perfect! You can go on a few rides, win him a giant stuffed animal, share a cotton candy, and at the end of the day, you can ride the Ferris wheel! He’d love the view! Andi did when I took her.”
TJ eyes widened in surprise at that but chose not to comment.
“And when it stops at the top, you can kiss him. It will be so romantic!”
A dreamy look crossed Amber’s face, making TJ raise his brows in amusement.
“Wow, that’s… not a bad idea.”
Amber beamed before standing up. “I have to get back to work. But, I hope you guys have fun! And, TJ, I’m sure that no matter what you, guys, end up doing, Cyrus will be happy that it’s with you.
TJ nodded, gratefully. “Thanks.”
The waitress gave him a little wave and bounded off.
Meanwhile, TJ took out his phone and did a quick search on the carnival, already making the plans in his head.
Who would have thought that it would be Amber of all people who would help him out?
………………
“Honey, where are we going?” Cyrus asked for probably the fifth time in their 10-minute walk.
“I told you, it’s a surprise.”
The younger boy was blindfolded and TJ had an arm wrapped around his waist and was holding his hand, leading him to their destination.
“You’ll love it, I promise.”
Cyrus giggled. “I’m sure I will. I always have fun with you.”
TJ felt himself blush with pride. “Good. Because we’re here.”
They stopped and the taller boy reached behind Cyrus’ head to untie the blindfold.
Cyrus blinked a few times before his eyes widened. “The carnival! I forgot they were in town!”
TJ grinned at him. “Happy one-month anniversary, Underdog.”
Gleefully, Cyrus grabbed his arm and pulled him towards the entrance, unable to wait any longer. TJ bought their tickets and Cyrus immediately dragged him to the cotton candy stand.
“Wanna share one?” TJ asked while they stood in line.
“What? No way! I want my own! You’ll eat all of it!” Cyrus replied with a pout.
A total lie because it was usually Cyrus who ended up finishing any food they shared, but TJ let it go. He was just happy that his boyfriend was already having a good time.
When they got their cotton candy (strawberry for TJ and blueberry for Cyrus), they found an empty bench and sat down, making plans on which rides to do first and what games to play. At some point, Cyrus tore a piece of cotton candy from TJ’s stick.
TJ pouted, pretending to be upset so Cyrus tore a piece from his own and fed him with it.
It was sickeningly cute. TJ never thought he would enjoy such a cliché action, yet here he was, grinning like no tomorrow.
Once they’ve finished their cotton candy, the two started on rides.
Cyrus chose the Merry-Go-Round first. TJ had to almost fight an 8-year-old for the horse next to Cyrus but the kid eventually decided he wanted a different-colored horse. The ride was slow, mellow, and quite fun; they held hands the entire ride.
The caterpillar was next, chosen by TJ. It was a faster ride and involved a lot more screaming but still enjoyable for Cyrus.
Then, Cyrus chose the teacups. The younger boy laughed and squealed the entire time so even though TJ was dizzy by the end of it, he was pleased that Cyrus was having tons of fun.
“That was exhilarating!” he exclaimed when they were done and walking away from the ride on wobbly legs. “What’s next?”
“How about the pendulum?” TJ asked.
Cyrus flashed him a face.
“That’s a ‘no’ then. Rollercoaster?”
The fear in Cyrus’ face had TJ scratching that out soon, so he looked around, scanning for something he knew his boyfriend would enjoy without having a heart attack. That was when he noticed a couple passing by, the girl clutching a giant stuffed unicorn in her arms.
“Why don’t we play some games?” he suggested.
Cyrus’ eyes lit up and he nodded. TJ allowed him to grab his arm again and drag him to the area with the game booths.
There were many games to choose from. Ring toss. Bean bag toss. Knocking down bottles. Shooting games. Lucky duck. And so much more.
TJ spotted a basketball game. He pointed it out to Cyrus.
“Let me win you something,” he stated.
The younger boy beamed. “Can I have the giant puppy?” he asked, pointing.
Hanging from one of the hooks is a white and brown, stuffed puppy. Cyrus was practically sending it heart eyes.
“You already have a name for it, don’t you?” TJ asked as they approached the booth.
Cyrus raised both fists in an encouraging gesture. “Win Sir Lancelot for me!”
God, he was so cute. It made TJ even more determined to win that giant dog.
The guy at the booth told him he needed 10 baskets within 30 seconds to win Sir Lancelot, making TJ smirk. It was easy as pie.
The buzzer went off and TJ was on a roll, shooting basket after basket. He missed two but that didn’t affect his sure win. After 30 seconds, the guy was handing him the giant stuffed dog.
Cyrus let out an excited squeal as TJ handed the prize to him and he was awarded a swift kiss to his cheek.
“You’re the best boyfriend ever!” he exclaimed, nuzzling the puppy’s cheek with his own. “I’m going to win you something too!”
Before he knew it, TJ was dragged to a bean bag toss game. Cyrus placed Sir Lancelot in his caring arms so he could have his hands free.
TJ watched in amusement at Cyrus’ intense look of concentration as he tossed the bean bags into the targets. He clapped and cheered each time his boyfriend made one and shouted encouragements when he missed.
In the end, Cyrus won him a little black stuffed dog. TJ was pleased but his boyfriend was unhappy that he wasn’t successful in winning him one of the larger prizes.
“I like him,” he stated. “I think I’ll name him Carlos.” He placed the puppy next to his face and pouted. “Does he look like me?”
That made Cyrus smile. “Yeah, he does.”
The two boys continued going around the carnival, doing more activities. They tried their luck at the Lucky duck game (neither won, sadly, but the guy kindly gave them small bottles of bubbles as consolation prizes). Cyrus bought them a bag of popcorn to share. They found a photo booth and took a couple of silly photos. They went on the Merry-Go-Round a second time.
The sun was sinking on the horizon and TJ knew it was time for the final ride.
“Today was so much fun!” Cyrus piped, bouncing on his feet as they walked. “Thank you, honey.”
“The day’s not over yet, Underdog.”
Cyrus looked up and gasped. In front of them was the Ferris Wheel.
“Whoa…” he breathed. “It’s… high.”
He sounded unsure so TJ nudged his shoulder with his. “Don’t worry, I won’t let you fall.”
The reassuring words were enough to make Cyrus smile and nod. “I trust you won’t,” he said.
After waiting in line for a few minutes, it was finally their turn to get into a car. Because of Sir Lancelot’s size, they were squished rather close together. The ride operator fastened the bar in place and Cyrus immediately clutched it, his left arm around his giant stuffed dog. TJ placed a hand on top of his right and he felt Cyrus relax.
The Ferris Wheel began to move up, slowly. Cyrus’ hold on the bar became tight again as he shut his eyes.
“Underdog, you okay?” TJ asked, softly. “Do you want to get off?”
Cyrus swallowed and shook his head. “No, I’m fine. I promise. I just… need a second.”
“Cyrus-.”
“I’m fine.” He turned his head to TJ’s and opened his eyes. Slight anxiety was reflected there but there was also determination. “I wanted to do this with you, too. I just… needed a push, I guess.”
For a moment, TJ could only look at him in wonder and amazement, his heart warm despite the chill of the oncoming evening. Lifting an arm, he wrapped it around Cyrus’ shoulders and brought him closer.
“Then, just look at me,” he said, smiling.
Cyrus grinned. “I’m fine with that.”
TJ pecked his nose, making him giggle.
The Ferris Wheel went around twice and Cyrus only looked at TJ the whole time. The older boy could feel him relaxing under his hold. Then, they felt a stagger before their car stopped.
They were right at the top.
TJ looked out into the distance. “Underdog, look.”
Slowly, Cyrus followed his gaze and let out a soft gasp. “Wow.”
In front of them, across the horizon, the sun was setting. The sky was a rich orange, blue, and yellow.
“It’s beautiful,” Cyrus mumbled before turning to TJ with a smile so bright that could rival the sun. “I love it. Thank you for bringing me here.”
TJ felt himself smile back, his emotions filling up his heart that he feared that they might all spill out at once and drown him.
“Anytime,” he replied, softly. “Happy one-month, Cyrus.”
“Happy one-month, TJ.”
They leaned in at the same time, their lips pressing against each other into a loving kiss.
Their day at the carnival was truly perfect.

1st December 2017
We woke up around 0830. The rain had just stopped so I was worried we wouldn't be able to get out of the mud. We went for a wee and then sorted the van out. I wanted to get into the town fairly early to walk around, find a campsite and go to our Fraser Island tour briefing.
We got dressed and as I was doing so, Steve had left. He went into the shop for an iced coffee but managed to come out with a lamb shank pie, a sausage roll and two drinks. He's an absolute nightmare and there is no wonder I am gaining timber like there's no tomorrow.
We drove the half an hour back into the town and pulled up in a free parking space. It was a lovely little town, may be even smaller than Agnes. The sun was shining so we were obviously enjoying it more straight away. There was a small strip of shops – your average tourist stores; souvenirs, tours, trips.
We walked up and down, popping in and out of the shops which was nice. We went for a walk along the never ending beach too. There was so much sand. The cliffs were made of sand too. Fraser Island is one of the largest sand islands so that's probably why.
We bought some water from the supermarket and an icepole. It was around 1300 when we decided to go and check into the only camper van site in Rainbow Beach town. It cost us $45 for one night which is stupidly expensive. After two nights, we're $100 down. You can imagine how fast our money is running out.
We parked our van and walked around the park. I suggested a day by the pool to relax before our trip which was going to be full on. We walked to the swimming pool and Steve decided it was a kids pool and didn't want to go in it. We had to put washing on so we went back to do the van and sorted our clothes out.
We put the washing on and we had to do two separate washes as we had so much. I decided to try and sort the van out whilst we were waiting. It had become a little bit of a mess although I'm sure it'll be back to a mess shortly.
We wanted to get showered so we got our stuff ready... We realised just before going in that we both couldn't shower. We had no towels as they were in the wash! How irritating. We have done that quite a few times this year.
We decided to go to the library after the wash was done. We would go and see if we could look at flights home just before going to our briefing. It was a 5 minute walk there and only one person inside. I love a library and my library card as a child was a luxury item! I read so much when I was young, I wish I had the time to read more at home. I mean, I do have time – everyone does should they make it. I just prefer to catch up on lost sleep due to shift work!
We sat at the computer and searched through cheapest airlines, comparison sites and dates. We have a few flights in mind that we're keeping an eye on but we're going to take the gamble and see how long we can leave it before it goes. I'm really hoping that they get cheaper as we pass Christmas. There will always be flights there to get home but whether they will get cheaper or more expensive, is the gamble.
We left the library and got to the hostel at 1620. We were 10 minutes early and it was packed. There were 4 benches and they were full of people waiting already. I felt so intimidated walking in and having everyone stare. We sat on a bench next to two girls. They weren't speaking English.
The briefing started eventually and it was meant to be around 45 minutes. Let me tell you, by the time we got back – it was dark! Steve and I were in such bad moods that evening because the briefing caused such an inconvenience to us.
We were put into our tour groups. You have 4 cars and you keep to the car you're in with the same people. Car one was for the people that cannot drive. Our tour guide would always drive car one as the lead car. Cars 2, 3, and 4 were driven by us.
Steve and I were put into group 2, with the two girls sitting next to us. Another couple joined us and a single traveller. We were sat there to get to know each other. The two girls were from Holland and were friendly enough – Rhianna and Jolanda. The couple were from Sweden but didn't talk all that much and the lone traveller was from USA (Wisconsin) – Sarah.
Sarah was good at talking and getting people to chat to one another. We had to listen to a Scottish guy give us a 20 minute talk about health and safety, what to bring, what not to bring, what to expect, the itinerary etc.
After, we all had to go through paperwork for insurance purposes as we are driving. We had to pay $10 for the insurance which is annoying considering we had paid a good $400-$500 each anyway. Why not bump the price up at the beginning? We had to sign a medical form and all sorts of stuff.
After that, we had to watch 2 separate DVD's made by the Queensland Government about driving safely on sand islands. The videos were badly designed and the acting was absolutely awful. You all know the sort. They were both 17 minutes long and we were just standing there watching. Ugh.
We were advised to buy some alcohol and bring it along as well as snacks. Steve and I walked to IGA and the liquor store afterwards. We bought a 10 pack of XXXX Gold as it was the cheapest. We didn't buy any snacks from IGA as our food is given on the tour. We will be fine with the main three meals.
We got back to the caravan park around 1800. The sky was just getting dark and we still had to put our washing in to the dryer, cook dinner and pack for the 3 days. We also had to be at the hostel tomorrow morning for 0600. It was an early, early morning with a long 3 days ahead.
We cooked dinner and packed. We were in bed by 2130. We were annoyed, hot and bothered. Everything had been a rush and un-enjoyable. We were also not looking forward to the trip because of having to meet a whole load of new people. We're fairly nervous people in social events. Once we get going, we will be fine and loving life. We just love to be in our own company which is pretty bad. We would prefer to just be together alone rather than in a group. We've also realised we're pretty inseparable. Joint at the hip, some would say.

No Waitrose October 4
Day 22
Before we start, there was a thing I meant to say yesterday but I forgot, so here it is:
“When we left the flat in the morning, I left with my daughter ahead of the person I live with, who stayed behind to wash her face or something. This meant I was standing outside the flat in the street for a few minutes. My hand automatically went to my pocket to check my phone, but I stopped myself, as I am trying to be on my phone less. So I just kind of wandered about aimlessly, not really doing anything.
“A woman was out walking her dog, and as she walked past us, she stopped, looked at me and asked “Are you lost?” I laughed and started to explain that I wasn’t, but she immediately realised I wasn’t lost and got a bit embarrassed. It made me realise how unnerving people find it if you don’t look like you have a sense of purpose. I don’t think she would have stopped to check I was ok if I’d been looking at my phone. I intend to investigate this phenomenon further.”
That was worth the wait, wasn’t it?
Today (we are starting Day 22 now, don’t worry) the person I live with had some work to do for work, so I took my daughter out in the morning so she could have a bit of peace and quiet. We went to the park first of all, where we went on the swings. The swings are the only thing in the park that she can do properly at the moment, but she loves them, so we had a good long swing and then carried on into town. On the way she fell asleep, which was the plan, so I wandered around looking in shop windows as she slept.
When she woke up, I took her to the ice cream parlour Scoop and Crumb as I have become obsessed by their milkshakes. I ordered a chocolate milkshake and we went upstairs and got a table. The milkshakes in Scoop and Crumb are proper ice cream milkshakes in huge glasses with sauce and sprinkles and cream on the top. They’re outrageous. I love them. As does my daughter, it emerged to no great surprise. I gave her a few mouthfuls of cream and milkshake and she loved it. She got it all over herself though.
We walked home along the front and then nipped into Sainsbury’s Local to buy some food for lunch and tea. We then almost immediately left Sainsbury’s Local thanks to a lack of food I wanted to buy, and went across the road to Tesco Extra, where they have a better selection. It’s weird; I’d take Sainsbury’s over Tesco any day of the week if it was a large store, but when it comes to the express versions it’s got to be Tesco.
I bought some smoked haddock for lunch and some mince for tea, as well as some other bits and bobs. When we got home, the person I live with immediately noticed that our daughter was covered in chocolate, so I had to admit that we’d been for a milkshake. This did not come as a surprise, as I’m always talking about going for milkshake.
It was lunchtime, so I made smoked haddock and cheese and peas and pasta for the three of us, which went down very well. We had a bit of a play after lunch, and then the person I live with said she had more work to do, so I took our daughter out for the afternoon as well.
I decided that we’d go somewhere in the car in the afternoon, as I was a bit knackered, so that was the easier option. I set off with a vague plan of heading east along the A27 and hoping my daughter fell asleep, which she did almost immediately. It was a lovely sunny autumn day and I was listening to the new Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile album, which is quite good. I was still trying to think of where to go though, until I remembered about my book of small churches.
About a year ago I bought a book called England’s Smallest Churches, which is a guide to the smallest churches in each county in England. The only criteria for getting in the book is that the churches should be small, rather than of any particular architectural or historical interest. It’s my kind of book. I’ve been trying to visit some of the small churches ever since, but I haven’t actually visited any of them yet, which is not very impressive. I have made at least four unsuccessful attempts to visit the church in Tickencote in Rutland, but events keep conspiring against me.
Anyway, I remembered that one of the small churches is near Alfriston, which was in the direction I was heading, so I decided to go to Alfriston and then google where the small church was and go and visit it. I arrived in Alfriston and parked up, and my daughter was still asleep, so I decided to wait until she woke up. A man came and knocked on the window and gave us his parking ticket, which was very nice, and she slept through that. I decided to google the church, but it turned out I had no reception, so I couldn’t find out where the church was. The Courtney Barnett/Kurt Vile album got to the end and began playing again. Still my daughter slept.
It was getting on a bit now, and I realised I didn’t know where the small church was and that even if I did I probably wouldn’t have time to walk to it and visit it and still get back in time for tea, so I decided to head back home, once again thwarted in my efforts to visit a small church.
On the way back, we came to a sign for Middle Farm, which is a farm on the A27 with a farm shop and animals to look at and a park and a gift shop and a café. That kind of farm. It’s a nice place to stop, so we stopped and my daughter slept for another 10 minutes in the car park and then eventually woke up. I put her in the sling and paid £5 for us to go into the bit of the farm where you can see the animals.
I was quite excited, because it was the first time she had been on a farm and seen farm animals in real life and I was looking forward to mooing and baaing and oinking and so forth. However, it quickly became apparent that my daughter hated the farm. She cried at all of the animals; cows, pigs, sheep, horses, ducks, donkeys, goats, rabbits, chickens – you name it, she hated it. At first I thought something was wrong, as she never moans about anything. There was a park, so we went on a swing for 10 minutes and she was perfectly happy. But back in the sling and looking at furry things, she was furious again.
I felt bad for frightening my daughter with these horrific beasts, so we bid a hasty retreat and went to the farm shop, which was much safer territory for both of us. I bought some fancy apple juice and we drove home.
Back at home it was my daughter’s teatime, bathtime, storytime and bedtime, and then I made shepherds pie for the non-babies in the flat. After tea we watched a documentary from the BBC archive about John Betjeman’s favourite churches in the diocese of Norwich, and he didn’t seem to have any trouble visiting the churches. That’s probably why he was Poet Laureate and I’m not.
Incidentally, it turns out that the church I was attempting to visit near Alfriston is in a village called Lullington. It is the smallest church in Sussex and is the subject of a b-side by the band British Sea Power called The Smallest Church In Sussex. I’ll get there one of these days.
Didn’t go to Waitrose.

Blogging to remember!
Last January 18, 2017. I took my MCAT at San Beda College as pre-requisite for admission to their College of Medicine. It comprised of simple arithmetics, grammar and punctuations, and a little bit of essay about the social issues currently. It was relatively easy, and if I were to compare it – I would compare it to the NCAE I took when I was in 3rd year high school, and the USTET I took August 2012 (not that I remember those really clearly, but because the experience wasn’t traumatizing like NMAT)
My essay was about the economic growth of the Philippines, I’m not sure if I remembered it clearly but the question kind of went off like this, ‘despite the potential of the Philippines to grow economically from 1965-1985, why didn’t it thrive unlike it’s neighboring countries in South East Asia?’. I know that I didn’t answer as ideally as I should have, but since I saw a #MarcosNoHero placard around San Beda that time, it got stuck inside my head and I just wrote about Marcos, about his dictatorship and plunder cases.
Today, (April 3, 2017) – TWO MONTHS AFTER THE SAID MCAT AND THE SAID WEIRD ESSAY – I was scheduled –FINALLY!- for an interview. I received an e-mail and a text message about what I should wear, where and who will be with me. It was kind of frustrating since I was promised confidentiality on my part (when I took the MCAT) that only my applicant number will appear on the notifications/announcements. Instead, it beared my full name down to the last initial!
Since I am unsearchable through facebook (courtesy of my preference for my nickname rather than my full name) I took the opportunity to peek through the facebook profiles of my future colleagues and/or classmates! HIHIHI ~
The text had 24 names, divided equally into the morning interview session and the afternoon interview session. I was blessed to be in the first batch to be interviewed, since I took the MCAT earlier than most of the applicants. I was in the afternoon session, meaning I had time in the morning to look through my closet for the corporate-iest corporate clothing I had (the email and text message said to wear corporate clothes).
My grandmother wanted to tour Manila while she was visiting for my graduation so my mother and grandmother took advantage of the moment to tour and also give me moral support. I wore a pale pink long-sleeved (idk what that was) I brought from a thrift shop and a neon peach pencil skirt I bought several months ago from sale somewhere – the conclusion after an hour long debate on what I should wear – my mother insisted I wear her clothes! HER CLOTHES! Of course
We arrived at the campus at around 11:30am and my mother insisted we take pictures, I was soooooo embarrassed ‘cause my mother was insisting on it like, just ‘take a picture on this weird looking poster right here’. I tried to compensate and had our picture (I and my grandmother) on that garden with a fountain.
We went to the church and prayed a bit. Then the clock chimed twelve, and they played a prayer on the speakers everywhere. I remember it being the ‘Lord’s Prayer’ and me thinking, hey – I wanna hear this prayer everyday for the rest of my medical student life!
At around 12pm, I could not contain my anxiety (a bit, and also the fact that they –mom and lola- talked a lot and they made me nervous) so I told them I better go ahead. My grandmother was reminding me about my bag and where I should put it while in church to avoid it being stolen or something - while that was deeply appreciated - It added anxiety to my already anxious-self.
So I went to the Medicine Building, looking like a carrot with my neon peach pencil skirt.  A door had instructions posted in it, it went like this: APPLICANTS FOR INTERVIEW PLEASE GO TO ROOM 22B and a little map on it. Room 22B was in the second floor so I saw some Bedan med students on the way there.
I went to ROOM 22B. It wasn’t surprising how I was the only one there. The room seemed like a holding area for students for interview. I paced around a bit, trying to see myself there. The lighting was a bit dim, but that could be easily changed – apart from that, the room looks nice, conducive for learning! Although the wooden catholic cross was hidden by the projector screen.
At around 12:45pm, I had company! His initials were K.A.D. and I met him in pinoy.md and through facebook! He’s nice and friendly, and his mom accompanied him! I suddenly felt bad I made my grandma and mom go away. Soon, we were around seven in the holding area. Another acquaintance I met through a facebook group with initials E.E. arrived, and we just talked about med school in general.
A man, sir Rey(?), went to the room at around 12:55pm. He asked of our surnames, I said my measly 2-letter surname to him and he gave me a number with a pink background. The color of the background dictated who our interviewer will be.
At around 1:05pm, I went to the bathroom for the last time, having the gut feeling the interview is bound soon. When I returned to the room at 1:10pm, sir Rey(?) told me to go downstairs and go to the door which had a pink background on it.
I was led to a small office with a computer chair – I remember the computer chair because I feared falling on it or slipping the wheel and making a fall somehow! Haha! How the mind works when one is nervous.
My interviewer was a male, he introduced himself and I I remember just ‘Enrique’, I don’t remember his surname at all (or maybe Enrique is his surname?). He didn’t offer his hand, so I didn’t offer mind cause that would be awkward (I wish I had though, it bugged me). He asked for my name, so I replied. Then he called me Doktora (my name) after that.
He had a lot of papers in his hand, it had the questions on it. First, he read the general instructions. ‘You will be given a set of hypothetical situations in which you should answer briefly and honestly. You will be given a maximum of five minutes per question. This interview will comprise of a maximum of 30 minutes. I will be taking notes while you are speaking, but please continue speaking’ something like that.
Hypothetical situations (not in any order, just how I remembered it) and my answers: (not the actual verbatim, of course! Just the way I remember it! I excluded the stuttering of course! But yes! I answered in English):
(1)
Q: Your father had a drinking spree and could not go to work the day after because of a bad hangover. He asked you to write him a medical certiciate so his boss will excuse him, or else, his boss will suspend him. As a newly licensed physician, what will you do?
A: I will advise my father to go to a clinic due to body weakness of malaise, however I will not write the medical certificate for him because it would not be professional.
(2)
Q: Your mother bought you an all-expense trip to Europe unfortunately, it coincides with your already rescheduled final exam.
A: I am very determined in becoming a medical doctor. I will simply tell my mother to give the trip to my sister because I am passionate and determined in reaching my goal.
(3)
Q: As a medical intern, you are presenting a case to consultants, residents and fellow interns. A consultant told you as you were presenting that your case presentations lacked some stuff.
A: As a student I know that I will not be able to make a case presentation perfectly. I will take note of what he commented and will put it on my next case analysis. Yet, I will continue presenting my case emphasizing on its strengths rather than on its weaknesses or what it’s lacking.
(4)
Q: You are looking through some proposals for a new drug. The project will sponsor 5million to the best proposal. Among the proposals was a paper made by your sister and it was among the TOP 3.
A: I will suspend all biases and look through all of the proposals as objectively so that the person who will be chosen will deserve it.
(5)
Q: After an exhausting day with no snacks, you finally had time to go to Mcdo and you bought apple pie, fries and a burger. A street child goes to you and asks for food.
A: (This was fortunate because I did not like McDo! I love Jollibee!) It has always been a habit of mine to give street children food rather than money. Of course I will give the child my apple pie and I will ask him if he has friends so they can all share the small feast I can offer.
(6)
Q: In a group project, a leader assigned you some work to do. You noticed that the tasks were not equally divided. A groupmate of yours offers to help you.
A: I believe in the assessment of the leader because I know that people have different sets of strengths and weakness. Yet, if I was assigned a task I find hard to do, I will accept the help given to me.
(7)
Q: You are a group leader. Two of your members have difficulty working together because of personal differences.
A: I will advise my members to set aside their personal differences and work objectively and professionally.
(8)
Q: No matter how much you try, you will can’t understand the topic of your upcoming exam. You tried and tried but you could not understand it.
A: I will use my resources such as the library, the internet. I will ask my classmates if they could help me. If I still could not understand it, I will ask the professor for the things I find most difficult. And should I still fail to understand it, I will do my very best in the exam.
After that, I was surprised that the interview concluded. It took around 10 minutes? I’m not sure. The interviewer, doctor Enrique(?) wished me luck and he told me, he’ll see mee soon. I don’t know what that meant. I guess, I have a strong standing!
