Can I ask what you use to animate??
Yus of course! I'm always very excited to help other people get into animation.
Right now I use Tahoma2d, it is free and a more user-friendly version of OpenToonz which is the famed, also free, software used for a lot of Miyazaki films. I used OpenToonz before Tahoma and def found Tahoma more intuitive. (Side note, you do need a decent computer to run it and not lag. I get by on an old, no-upgrades microsoft surface pro with a little finagling, though.)
It took a while for me to figure it out, and I probably am only familiar with 1/3rd of its capability tbh, which is enough to make what I want to make, tho I'm constantly learning more. I used tutorials on youtube to learn, there's a lot of good ones! You can use the opentoonz tutorials for tahoma too, basically the same interface
I never pay for art programs and thankfully there are plenty of people who believe they should be accessible that there are a lot of free resources.
I have also dabbled with GreasePencil in Blender, but yikes the learning curve is so steep, there are so many little technical details in the software that hold me up for hours. I want to learn it more someday, when I have the time, because it can do sooooo much!
I'll also add, that when I was first starting out and just wanted to be able to produce animations without much fuss, I used Pencil2d. Very simple! It helps to use that if one gets frustrated with learning a more complex program like Tahoma. Take a break, animate something easy that makes you happy, then try figuring it out again.
I do my thumbnailing, sketches etc in Medibang Paint, and if I need some video editing stuff, (like piecing together segments of a scene because i learned the hard way you're not meant to animate full 5-minute long scenes in one file lmao) I use Davinci Resolve, but I barely know how to use that one lol. That one is massive with effects and capabilities also. That one lags my laptop a lot more than tahoma..
You didn't ask for all this, but I tend to info dump because there are so many things i wish i knew when i first started animation. The downside of self-taught -- not knowing what questions to ask!, That said, idk if my information is even that great, being that I have no experience with the professional industry. Oh well, I hope this is helpful!

okay, serious post time.
i'm 22, and started playing toontown in 2006. that's 17 years toontown has been in my life so far. toontown has been fundamental to who i am, and my life experiences- i would be an extremely different person if toontown was not part of my life.
toontown is something i can thank for my enjoyment of writing. in 4th grade, one of my first school papers was about how much i loved the game. a little later, i discovered toontown fanfiction. specifically, i discovered "GEARS," by TheEvina. i was enamored by the story, and wanted to write my own.
of course i wasn't actually that great of a writer starting out, but who really is? i just kept at it, and here i am today! i'd like to think i'm at least a half decent writer now :)
toontown youtube was another great discovery i had made when i was young. the random toon show was my absolute favorite youtuber, and i dearly miss him. the "heriotza" movies, inspired by madtoontownreturns's movies, also have a fond place in my heart despite no longer being on youtube, along with several of his oldest songs.
much like with the fanfictions, seeing the cool toontown videos inspired me to make my own. my favorite is probably this one:
again, my videos weren't very good at all! this one was made in windows movie maker, the peak of editing software at the time. but like with everything else, i continued to pursue getting better at videos. in high school we had to choose a track of classes to "prepare us for the real word" and i chose audio/video. even went to college for a/v before they kicked me out bc i couldn't afford it.
i don't think i can really move on from toontown youtube without mentioning joey's old ttmvs. fixing the silly meter is of course the one everyone knows, but he did have a couple others! some of them seem to not be on youtube anymore which makes me kind of sad, but i understand- i did the same with my toontown fanfictions!
to tell you the truth, i can't remember toontown's closure very well. that period of time in general for me is kind of blocked out. don't know why. what i do remember is when toontown rewritten entered semi-open beta and i played the game for the first time again through the playline on june 18th, 2014!
Tumblr media
you "beta" believe i was excited- i stayed up until 3am for this! the experience was laggy as hell, and i think at one point loopy lane didn't even have cogs on it. but i was so excited to play toontown again, i didn't even care!
after playing toontown rewritten, i signed up for toonbook. i had been part of the original 2011 toonbook, but i wouldn't be able to say anything about that, as i do not remember it. toonbook was an experience. i met some of my greatest friends on toonbook, and it helped me learn a lot about myself. at the same time, it is a place i do not look back on fondly. i have very complicated feeling about the site.
on october 9 2015, i made Silent, my now main toon. she was royal blue at the time, and became a black cat later that year.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in toontown online, my first toon (skooby) was soundless before i had gotten terminated for hacking. (i was dumb and curious) silent would be the toon to carry on this tradition in toontown rewritten.
as the years continued, i continued to play toontown. even if i took long breaks, i always came back to it, and my friends were there to do activities with me. even if there was nothing big happening, sometimes it was nice to just sit at my estate and play with my doodles.
the night field offices released will live on in my memory as one of the best nights in my entire life. nothing will ever compare to being in a voice chat with my friends the first time we encountered the boiler. i don't really know how else to describe it besides magical. sure we crashed after one round, but another could be tried later!
that night, i completed my first ever field office on toontown rewritten, and it will still live on as one of my favorite experiences in the game ever. i of course continued doing field offices, and still enjoy them immensely. i haven't done a 4 star yet (need to fight 6 18+ cogs 😔) but i hope to some day!
with the most recent toonfest, i am so happy to be a toontown player. everything announced has me extremely excited, and i loved hearing all the backstory on the creation of toontown. this game has been a part of my life for 17 years, and i hope it continues to be part of my life for years to come.
happy 20th birthday, toontown.

Jane's Theory of Everything
It is Jane's first day as the newest addition to the diagnostics team and she's already missing in action.
Featuring: Jane Fletcher, Ethan Ramsey and Yasmin from IT (OC) from Open Heart, Choices.
Word Count: 1.8k | No Warnings/General | References: Book 2, Ch 1
A/N: This is Jane in her pure element. I had to write this.
Tumblr media
"You're not officially part of the A-Team until you get your own desk. So here you go." Baz beamed.
Jane turned her head around to see an old mahogany desk. On top was some kind of fibreglass. She was already given a desktop - something definitely outdated. The IT Department hadn't run their routine checks yet. And she was given a pencil-and-pen case; a tall white mug with stationary already filled in for her.
"It's great. Thank you very much."
"And you get your own chair. It's great, isn't it?"
"Very great."
"Well, if you need anything, you can--"
She seated herself on the chair, peering intently at the computer.
"The software needs updating. It is still using a very old system. I can see that because when I open up Word to type in, the fonts and the layout is something from the 2010s. Has nobody updated the system yet? And I don't think there's any firewall protection either, so our data can be compromised. I read that in a blog two years ago. I wasn't very good with computers, so I had to change things. It is a great blog. Called At-Home Computing For Stupidheads. Despite the aggressive name, it is very helpful."
"Yasmin from IT can help." he suggested.
"It's no problem. I like retro layouts. It reminds me of the time I read this book called Windows 101. It was in my med school library. And it had the most exquisite font system and layout. I assumed the writer, James M. Free, and his editing team would’ve prepared the manuscript on Word, because there are some typefaces unique to Word."
"Right."
"It's interesting." Jane had a smile on her face. "How things work."
"How things -- work?"
"I can use my new ID card anywhere, right?" she piped up.
"Yes. You wouldn't need a written-up anything. You can just walk in and demand a candy bar from the nurses if you want to." Baz scratched his stubble. "But I don't recommend you do it. Those -- nurses-- they're a different breed of human. I doubt they're actually human. No human can possess all of that-- sass."
"Great, then."
Tumblr media
"Is everyone here?" Dr Ramsey asked. He took a headcount. There was Baz Mirani, manning the computer, June Hirata going through the case files of the day and himself, Ethan Ramsey.
"Where's Dr Fletcher?"
"The new one?" June sniped.
"She might be busy with her new intern. You have to go easy on her." Baz suggested, but neither one of his colleagues were having it.
"It is eight AM. Where is she? Making lousy chit-chat with her band of Mordor friends?" Ethan snarled.
"She is here." Baz informed them, even though none of them cared to listen. "I don't know where she went. She came, went through her new desk and left abruptly. I thought she was doing rounds. She might be. Or maybe she's showing her intern the ropes."
"The Intern Meeting was an hour ago. She should be here." June snapped. "Punctuality is an integral virtue for a doctor. If she can't do that, then.. it is a little concerning. Just a little."
"I'll have a look around. Go over the cases for me, please."
Ethan sighed, marching down the long hallways, looking particularly displeased.
Jane Fletcher was something else. He'd hoped she'd learn something from what happened the previous year, but maybe he was wrong. She was often late, often zoned out and it was like she wasn't even there. And it was the oddest thing too, because Jane had the experience. Far better than anyone else. Having studied engineering and medicine, she was clearly the only one fit for the so-called "rookie" position on the diagnostics team.
Now Ethan was reconsidering his decision. It took a lot of convincing to have June and Harper aboard the decision. The Mrs. Martinez case didn't exactly paint a glowing picture of Jane.
"Jane is one of the bests we have, but she has such outlandish thoughts and aspirations. I think you should go with Dr Varma or even, Aurora, to be on the team." Harper had confessed. "She's great, no doubt, but her strengths are elsewhere and we're looking for someone who can delegate and take orders."
Harper was never wrong about those tactical details.
"Excuse me." He asked the front desk nurse. "Have you seen Dr Jane Fletcher? Is she not here?"
"Didn't you page her, Doctor?"
"My messages aren't reaching her. Something's probably faulty with my pager as well."
The nurse nodded, before looking up the details on the computer.
"Weird. Her pager's not active. She could've manually turned it off. Have you tried phoning her?"
"No. Her phone's busy too. She must've left it in her locker." Ethan deduced. "Have you looked around, perhaps? Seen her? She's late. And June will consider having my head if she doesn't show up. I've spoken a great deal with her about the new addition to the team."
"Oh. Dr Hirata is a handful, I know. Don't worry. That's what I'm here for."
"Plus. How hard is it really? To follow instructions? Christ. It's the first day. First. And -- everything has gone wrong."
Ethan waited, while the receptionist tried to get a hold of Jane. Five minutes soon became ten. Then twelve.
"Got her. She's on the fifth floor." the nurse held up her phone. "Chris the Computer Guy notified me."
"Fifth? But that's the --"
Tumblr media
"And that's how the pager works."
"Really? Wow. I've always thought they were just sort of small Blackberry phones."
Yasmin from IT chuckled at the joke.
"Radio transmissions. They remind me of the electromagnetic spectrum. And the electromagnetic spectrum reminds me of X-Rays. It is interesting how everything is connected to everything and we all use electromagnetism. It is interesting too, because you have these waves which are perpendicular to each other. An electric and a magnetic wave. And we do all sorts of things with it. I had this unit in my pre-med about it, but they never really expanded on it."
"Now, is that all?" Yasmin asked. "Do you have any other questions?"
"How does a firewall work? I've been hearing so much about it. I'm often told to think about it like it is some Giant Filter that scans your data 24/7. Software firewalls are basically computer programs which scan each and individual data packet. The word scan is so ambiguous. What does it scan? Does it read every individual text file? Does it look at the extension of each file to make sure it isn't corrupted?"
"That is--"
"You know what the Great Filter reminds me of? The Fermi Paradox. Suggesting that there's some force field that protects us from contacting alien life forms. But that can't be right, can it? Electromagnetic waves can travel across vacuums. Otherwise we can't get pictures from space. So if there existed a Great Filter, does it mean that there's another medium that exists in space? Something like dark matter for instance? That prohibits light, the simplest electromagnetic wave, from getting into it?"
"I'm not --"
"If we can see through bones and muscles, get to the heart of our body's ecosystem, why can't we do the same up in space? What is limiting us? And how can we prove something like the Fermi Paradox is real, when it itself is a paradox? Or is that the true intention? Like you've got the River Avon. Avon means "river". Then you have the Sahara Desert. Sahara means "desert". Is it like that? Does Fermi actually mean 'paradox'?"
There was a knock at the door.
"Dr Fletcher. You were supposed to be downstairs half an hour ago." Ethan huffed.
Jane turned around. "Sorry."
"Dr Fletcher came here to learn about the pager."
"The what?"
Yasmin continued. "It appears she wanted to learn about things."
"Learn about the pager -- of all things? Learn what?"
"Just how it worked.." Yasmin cowered. "I'll be -- erm-- at my desk now."
Ethan eyed her curiously. Jane's eyes fell to the ceiling. He stole a glance at the table, occupied by a put-apart pager, with all the parts lying around separately.
"Very well. Come on, now. And take your pager."
Jane had half expected Ethan to yell at her. To blast her for being so reckless, so late. To poke and prod her for disappearing off. To compare her with her young classmates, tell her she was no good, ec cetera. Ec cetera. But to her surprise, he didn't even scold. Nor was he actually cross.
As they walked to the end of the hallway to the elevators, Ethan glanced at an anxious Jane, now twisting her sleeves and holding onto her pager, which unfortunately didn't work anymore, even after Yasmin tried to put the parts together.
"Learning things?" he asked her, as the elevator doors closed.
"Yes."
"But you're a doctor."
"That doesn't mean I know everything and anything. That I know the Ultimate Truth. Even though the answer is forty two."
"Why forty two?" Ethan asked, curiously.
"No. The actual answer is one point six one eight, a close approximation of the Golden Ratio. It's everywhere, but again, not the most consistent thing in the universe. It might be ever-present in the Mona Lisa and in the skies of Starry Starry Night but upon close examination, Da Vinci's The Last Supper and Van Gogh's The Potato Eaters don't have the Fibonacci spiral."
"What is the most consistent thing in the universe?"
Jane thought for a brief moment.
The elevator doors opened.
"I think it is three."
"Just.. three?"
Ethan and Jane now walked down the corridor, en route to the diagnostics lab.
"Three. The Pythagorean Theorem uses three variables. Triangles are easier to use as tiling patterns. When they come together, they form a hexagon. It has six sides, which is twice of three and it is used everywhere, from under aeroplane wings to the bee hives and even in our own eyes."
Ethan nodded, listening carefully.
"But even three sometimes is far too simple to describe the universe. There are lots of famous numbers. Pi is one such example. Extremely simple. It is the ratio of the circumference of the circle to its diameter. And it works for any circle, because circles are the most consistent thing in the universe. Ovals, ellipses and other twisty things fall under the same Circular Family."
"And you don't think it is the Answer?'
"No. I think the answer is three-one-four-four-two-one-six-one-eight. Pi. 42. The Golden Ratio. And it has eight exponents upon estimation. Three times the tenth power of eight. Which becomes the speed of light. The fastest thing known to mankind. And I believe swiftness is pretty neat and the key to everything."
Ethan wasn't sure if he was supposed to be amused or infuriated.
They finally arrived.
"We have to get you a new pager." Ethan sighed.
"That's okay." Jane nodded, placing the remains of her worn-out gadget on her desk. "I think it looks nice as a decorative thing."
"So -- this is the new -- resident?" June quipped.
"Hi. It's nice to meet you." Jane extended a hand. "My name is Jane Fletcher and I am more than happy to work with you. Unfortunately, you have a very compromised computer system. Yasmin will be here to make some changes in fifteen minutes' time. And our pagers can easily be copied and traced, so I suggest we use even more faster means of communication, like say, photon transmitters for example. I think they're quite neat. I read it from a book that quantum communication systems are the thing of the future now and the key can never be copied at all, because we're using the spin states of the atoms to--"
The two of her colleagues stared at her. And it wasn't the good kind of staring. Jane wasn't sure if it was because of her ridiculous height or her heterochromia. She blamed them regardless. It was hard making friends with an odd physique, anyway.
Meanwhile Ethan stood off to the side, his expression unreadable.
"Uh.. um. What I meant -- I hope to do some of my best work here."
"And you will." Ethan said. "Now. Let's get to work, team?"
Tumblr media
A/N: The answer is clearly 42.
This was super fun to write, because it had everything I love in it: pure, unadulterated geek-ery.
Quick Background: Jane's pre-med was actually chemical engineering. She got into medicine after someone's recommendation, and also because it seemed like a fun thing to do.

KINNGGGG i wanna hear ur SINGINgf also how do u do it on the internet ND SHIT
aw i'm so sorry i was asleep when you sent these. also i'm answering publicly because i worked really hard on this and i'm an attention whore <3
https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/JtKieEFCV7BtZAXS7 here is my favorite solo ever but it's like eight years old hhhahha (in jp)
https://twitter.com/r4nsetsu/status/1499543423942017027?s=21&t=TymQWkkhekI-WtIskXK4tQ here is one of my karaoke songs since you said i had good taste JFJKEFJ (in en)
https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/riJe3tAc3wCJwdbbA here is my comeback from last year (i failed at mixing this so i think i will re-mix it when i am better at doing that HFJKSJFJFK i do love shrieky vocals in my voice tho) (in jp)
https://twitter.com/r4nsetsu/status/1500281411185647619?s=21&t=giIbl15LU9WmTbn1hWY86g here's an emo mili song bc i am soo dramatic (in en)
https://youtu.be/onhI9oNXu7c here is my favorite collab ever!!! i am second from the right (in jp)
logistically how do i sing on the internet? i use:
1. blue snowball USB mic. many people will tell you to get an XLR mic, which is better quality, but also requires extra hardware to actually connect it to the computer so it's a higher price point. i wouldn't necessarily recommend that for just getting started! if i manage to record again when my current life situation is resolved i will probably upgrade tho because i am trying to learn to mix better so i want sexier mic quality. I HAVE ALSO USED THE MIC FROM ROCK BAND FOR THE NINTENDO WII which works SURPRISINGLY WELL. it was a USB mic i already had lying around and it gets the job done! in theory a mic is the only thing you might need to purchase to get started so it is a pretty low cost of entry hobby, i think my snowball was $50 ish but there might be better recommended USB mics these days
2. reaper to record and mix (technically paid software in the same way winrar is paid software, i have run it on an "evaluation license" for thousands of hours) it is unfortunately SUPER unintuitive and if you are open to p*rating adobe products i 100000% recommend adobe audition over reaper. however i am lazy and have never tried to get my hands on audition since i grew a pair and stopped paying for it :) reaper also has a built in manual TUNER which is soooooo nice because melodyne, while easier to use, is expensive (🏴‍☠️)
3. straight up just youtube and google for the instrumentals i need (i always make sure i can find them before i record bc most things have an instrumental available somewhere, but not all!). sometimes you can also find a reference for the harmony lines of a song and go really ham and record those too! or some people can just harmonize by ear but i am usually not very good at it so if i can't find a ref i just don't do it HAHA
4. soooooo many tutorials on youtube! i most recently learned how to time vocals without making them choppy, like how to stretch or shrink a syllable if multiple people are singing so they are more in unison. it's a lot of fun to learn things! (except EQ. learning EQ is part of why i'm on hiatus because it made me hate myself. all the homies hate EQ)
5. various video editing software which not everyone prioritizes anymore! the youtaite community specifically, which is where i have been on and off for almost 12 years holy shit, is youtube based so video is a big part of it. you can also usually charm ppl into making simple videos for you (i know this for a fact bc i am the ppl getting charmed into making simple videos for others)
and most importantly, i have
6. a ✨big fat ego✨ about my voice to allow me to sing on the internet because it can be really daunting!!! i used to perceive some really unpleasant tone in my voice and it took me a long time to come to terms with it, and i used to compare myself to everyone. karaoke and musical theater have done a lot for my relationship with my voice <3
[i was going to talk even fucking more about my Process here but i feel like i am writing a book. idk how much ramble you signed up for!! but if you think this is for you i would love to answer questions or help out]
ALSO IT IS SO MUCH FUN TO WORK WITH OTHER PEOPLE! oh my god! i did a chorus battle last year and most of my team was in GERMANY! that's so far away we would NEVER have met and we worked so hard and made something together!! talk about human connection!
Tumblr media
also you can sing literally whatever the fuck you want. i have not joined the choir in my community because i do not want to be stuck singing what the choir sings. i have not done any musical theater since RENT because i do not care about most musicals. i want to sing whatever i feel like singing and whatever is most fun and meaningful for me. it's my voice and i get to decide what to do with it etc
in conclusion: singing on the internet can be so rewarding and there is a pretty hoppin community of other people who sing on the internet who will be nice to you and offer advice/answer questions and sing songs with you. and it is really goddamn time consuming but i like it a lot. bye

What not to do while starting a gaming channel:
Tumblr media
In October 2022, I got the idea to create a gaming channel on Youtube.
I came up with a catchy name, a cool logo that was a mohawk anime character, which fit my appearance at the time.
I designed a banner, a watermark, and all the good stuff when creating a stunning profile.
However, I could have done better in a lot of areas.
For one, I had yet to learn who my general audience would be.
I didn’t have any particular niche in mind.
So, what did I do?
I just went with whatever.
I started with reaction-type videos to the indie-horror games I was playing then.
I already had a decent enough camera and mic to finish the job.
But I learned early on that lighting is more critical, so I didn’t need an expensive camera to record myself, especially when it’s going to squeeze into a small pip frame when I get around to editing the videos on Shareplay.
By the way, I am a console gamer, so I took full advantage of Sony's video editing software.
To me, honesty is the best policy… Being on a free budget is the better option, especially when I was still determining if I would do something like this for a long time.
The best learning experience from this would be changing the setting on a USB drive so it could download large video files.
Now all my USBs use their total gigabyte capacity.
That’s the major plus from this experience that benefited the most.
I also learned how to download from my console to my console, allowing me to use somewhat of the total capacity of a gaming console, which is far more impressive than what the simple-minded person would think it does.
Another mistake I did, I didn’t stick with doing reaction videos.
I ended up doing faceless commentaries, primarily on the Little Nightmare series, which did ok but not sufficiently to boost my channel.
I ended up with more views than my video reaction gameplay, so I kept doing it, but it didn’t go anywhere after that.
However, yet again, I didn’t stick with that either.
I did regular gameplay videos, mostly walkthroughs of RPGs, but, yet again, I didn’t stick with that either.
As of June 16th, 2023, I deleted my gaming channel and all 157 videos.
I realized that was a lot of hours I just threw away.
Making gaming videos, it takes a lot of time and work.
It’s no joke.
I kept changing how I did my videos because it was time-consuming, and I needed to get things done faster.
But in return, I burned myself out.
One thing is playing and capturing those moments; another is editing which can be tedious and take much longer than the hours put into a game.
Only a handful of Youtubers mentions sustainability.
Posting every day, or every week, does take its toll, especially if you’re solo.
So, I posted about 3 to 5 videos every week, which was a huge mistake.
These big players on Youtube that post often have a large team backing them and doing the bulk of the work that would’ve led to burnout for a solo person.
Eventually, work like this leads to burnout without help.
That’s why they say divide and conquer.
Or otherwise, you end up deleting it all and giving up.
I don’t give up, though.
I’m just clearing the canvas.
And I’m starting all over again from scratch.
I will use what I learned personally and not so much from what others mention because not everyone will be successful, but it can be fun that might bring something in.
I know someone with a Twitch channel, and she’s growing her audience more and more as time goes on, alongside her already well-paying job, so she doesn’t worry about resources.
But that’s because she changed her approach and allowed herself to be herself on camera, which she’s super charismatic.
Me, I’m not so much charismatic.
I don’t have much of an entertaining bone in my body, but I enjoy playing games even though I’m not super skilled at it.
I enjoy scaring myself half-to-death with games that are more frightening than horror movies.
And I get frustrated to the point of a heart attack when playing something as challenging as a Soulsborne game.
Over the past few months, I could tell I didn’t even care about making good thumbnails.
Thumbnails are important.
It’s the first thing the audience will see.
Another thing is marketing.
I didn’t start getting traction until I began posting links to other social media platforms, which I didn’t start that soon enough, taking that seriously.
The gaming market is saturated, but it doesn’t mean gathering an audience is impossible.
Gathering an audience falls back to what I should have addressed: who I am making these videos for.
What is my focus?
The concept applies to any creative field.
The work that sells is the one who you make it for.
Another thing I didn’t take seriously was what platform is best to start a gaming channel.
I tried to avoid the Twitch conversation because it’s live streaming.
Not only do I have to be concerned with camera quality, but I also have to worry about lag because my current laptop cannot handle the capacity.
And because I’m a console gamer, there are more items I would need, such as a capture card. If I didn’t go that route, I could only use a PS5 camera, which doesn’t give the best video quality.
If I wanted to post it on Youtube, I would need a capture card to record my gameplay on Twitch.
So, starting a proper gaming channel on the right platform requires spending on the materials needed to get it going.
That was something I wasn’t willing to do at the time.
I still don’t because I’m unsure if this will be something I’ll do in the long term.
Time is always an issue.
It will never stop being an issue because time has to be left aside to take care of other needs and responsibilities.
Hustle culture is the worst approach to life.
Life is more than work and creating things.
It’s about health and well-being.
It’s about social connections.
It’s about having fun as well.
Without that, work is life, and constantly being productive to get somewhere on the delusion that it’s there waiting is even grimmer to think about.
That’s why what incorporated to my failures in this endeavor, I refused to give it patience, and I didn’t consider that there was a reason they say to focus on what I mentioned before.
If I ever start a gaming channel again, I must do my best to create better content and attract a particular audience.
Importantly, take my time with videos.
I don’t have to post all the time.
And most of all, stick to my niche and the audience I’m selling to.
I still sigh when I think about all the videos I deleted, but it’s a process I have to go through if I plan to start something new.
It makes me think of the quote from Bloodborne, but I will dedicate it to me.
“May I find my worth in the waking world?”
Well, at least in the gaming world.
Thank You!

Colour Grading - Film Adaptation
After the edit was finished, I did the colour grade for Memoirs of a Dog. It was a very interesting experience, as it was my first time using Da Vinci and I have very little experience colour grading. At first I was just trying to learn how to use the software, and when I got an idea of what I was doing I started to actually work on the film.
My main goal with the colour grading was to create a consistent look for the film through all the shots and through this, emphasise the style. I noticed that there was a lot of red in many of the props, so I decided to match the tone of these reds. I also tried to make our footage colourful and achieve a good level of brightness. It was a long process and it took a lot of effort, but I am really happy with the results, and I believe that the colour grade adds a lot to this film.
Below are some stills of the footage before and after the colour grade!

Wow okay so that took like....twice as long to edit that chapter, I'm thinking because I'm still trying to get used to all these new suggestions. But I gotta admit, I think it really helped polish this chapter a lot?
Part of me is wigging out because I guess they started implementing AI learning, and well, that's fucking anxiety-inducing, just a complicated as fuck topic that I'm not comfortable trying to think about at 1am. This is unhinged El post-midnight gremlin hours after all.
All snarkiness aside, realistically every grammar-check site is going to have some level of AI bot and prolly some third or fourth-gen algorithmic ties to something like chapgpt or some other open-source AI software.
I can 1,000% see this as making me lazy as a writer, and I will need to be mindful of if I am using it. I like the suggestions, but I want to get to a point where I don't NEED it to make the suggestions. This means I will need to continue to grow as a writer and hone my craft.
I'm going to give it a once over again in the morning and post it. Then I kinda want to work on chapter 8 but I also want to actually WRITE tomorrow. So we'll see which one wins out. I have Sunday to edit as well.
My brain feels very rubbery after editing, and it's almost 1am. And since I'll prolly be up at 8 tomorrow I should probably be good and actually go to sleep early.

dxo photolab vs topaz
Nobody wants a standard printout for the picture which took within their family. In case you're like me you always strive for brilliant pictures that have an attractive appearance. I say this but my photos are less than professional. As a result of a little bit of editing a few capable software I normally fake so it. I am going to assume in case you are reading review that then you already know that printing photos on the internet is the solution for quality digital photos and pace. Digital online photo processing is actually misleading. The photos are not processed with negatives as the word "processing" implies. A few take digital photos and store them on pc in a usual way they choose to be uploaded to an electronic photo service plans. There are many businesses that will print your digital photos that online. Good mention those later globe article. Member's program prints your digital portraits. This is the touchy part mindful about are that will alter your photos before they are printed in their attempt additional medications . the picture "better". Strategies also businesses that advertise that they will not alter or touch-up your photos. Now dxo photolab Full Crack to alter. The decision another what must be be fixed in your opinion. Styles want to make out tons of the useless items that got in your photo, anyone do this by cropping it. dxo photolab Registration Key can sharper the color and contrast if sense it appropriate. Once you learn all these basics, you can get fancy with the beneficial effects. Perform make the photos have an attractive appearance by adding a boarder. Perhaps put some clip art your market photo or even add some text to barefoot jogging. Recession left many people economically disabled. They are trying inside your new solutions to get back their economic stability. Have no idea lost their jobs. To improve their financial condition, are usually doing business. Photo printing business is set in. Many people are setting up this sort of business to earn their bread and butter. Before developing a net photo lab, you need to know basic things. You need to have an unobstructed idea concerning field. You'll be able to go through different sites to get the idea for developing professional photo. You'll get to understand much on that issue. Although almost all the websites I discovered had their limitations, virtually all the sites provided products and/or services that would easily impress any amateur photographer. For anybody who is only on the lookout for some fun photo editing resources, I would recommend you actually check the dxo photolab following internet websites. A good photo editor will an individual to fix common along with pictures because getting rid of red eyes, whitening teeth, enhancing the photo's coloring, adjusting the background, and has a to lighten or darken the photograph as needed. You should likewise use one likewise allows allow you to easily sort and find your pics. For Windows users, you could run GIMP 2.0 on Windows 2000 and up, perfect for the people cheap laptops like the netbook or else the laptop deals that you discover with less horsepower this more expensive varieties. There is no question that GIMP is the way to head if probable disappointment to dedicate to Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. A pair of programs genuinely are a bit more polished, in the event that money is just not object for you, then please decide to spend sum of money. As for me, I'd in order to go free, and spend my money elsewhere. Perhaps use the money you save by using open source software on your private dream vacation or on some item you already been dreaming about for a long time.

Blog 1
Chapters 1 and 2 are made up largely of interviews with successful graphic designers. I learned about different sub fields in the industry, and about different companies. Something interesting to me was people's trajectories, where they started and how they came to be in the positions they are now.
One question posed to Allison Henry Aver I found the answer to interesting: what do you look for in a candidate for hire in your department? She first that they should be able to create something for the client regardless of their personal style, which I feel like I would need to improve on as I am so picky and obsessed with my style. But she also said that someone who is the target demographic for the product or company or what have you is good to have, which makes sense but was interesting to hear.
A similar question was posed to Lynda Decker. She said that she places personality, that is enthusiasm and willingness to learn, over technical skill. But also, that they are increasingly looking for those who can code as well as design, which I’ve been thinking a lot about. I am already pretty good with computers, and have been considering learning things that point towards user interface design and web developing.
Here are my two snippets from this week, still in progress.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I do plan to edit the first project quite a bit, to make the text standout more and kind of add to the imagery, like adding a hand and changing what's on screen and the sizes of everything, but basically the idea is from something my friend said to me that using social media is often just reminding people you exist. It is an original drawing I did in Photoshop, the first one I did in the software. I've done a lot in Clip Studio Paint previously, and a lot of the skill transfers easily. I use a Wacom Intuos S tablet as well.
My second image is a kind of collage of pictures that I took. The background is one in Charleston, where I'm from. The inserts are from when I went to New York City and Chicago. The exact quote is from my sister, talking about how long it took to break up with my boyfriend, which I talked a lot to her about on the trip to New York City that we went on together. I used the masking feature heavily in this, and I was pretty excited to learn it, as I hear artists online talking about masking a lot.

WEEK 8—Digital Iteration
This week's task needs to be completed using 3ds max, a modeling software. To be honest, I am not particularly confident in this task, because I have been unfamiliar with modeling and can not use it well. Therefore, this task is undoubtedly a challenge for me.
Part 1
First, we need to simplify the interface of 3ds max, and the specific method is written in the file on Moodle. I spent a little time in the process of operating it, but I also learned the interface layout of 3ds max, which made it convenient for me to find tools. At the same time, the file also provides many basic operation methods. When I follow the file steps, I gradually have a better understanding of the software. After completing all the steps mentioned in the files, I need to build a sphere. This is very simple, because 3ds Max has a sphere in its own basic model, which makes me feel relaxed, and I successfully built it (image 1).
Tumblr media
(Image 1)
Part 2
The second part is the most difficult and challenging for me. I know this, so I started my work very early. I have never used 3ds max for modeling before. The software I use most is rhino. I find that there are many differences between 3ds Max and rhino, such as page layout, shortcut keys, etc., which makes me feel uneasy. Therefore, I specially went online to search for some teaching videos about 3ds Max to help me complete modeling. Through this learning process, I have mastered a lot of knowledge, such as how to create and select objects, the use of display tools, the extrusion command of modifiers, how to carefully edit models, and create some textures. Although it took some time, I found that the operation was not as difficult as I imagined. I gradually overcame my uneasiness in the process of completing my homework, and successfully built a model of nail polish packaging(Image 2)and face cream packaging(Image 3). However, I did refer to the design in my teaching video for modeling. After all, I can not boldly use this software myself, But when I successfully completed them, I felt very excited because my efforts were rewarded.

Tumblr media
(Image 3)
To sum up, although this task is the most difficult one I think to complete, I have indeed encountered many difficulties. I mentioned some of them briefly above, and because my computer configuration is too low, I even have to borrow my classmates' computers to complete this task, but I have overcome the difficulties and gained a lot. For example, I have learned a lot of modeling skills and mastered some basic operations of a new modeling software. I also understand that as long as you make more efforts and are willing to spend time to complete a seemingly difficult task, you can often get results that will not disappoint you. As long as you are willing to spend your energy, try and practice effectively, you will always succeed!

There was a soft knock on the door, but Adora in her hazy state barely even moved. She must have been dreaming or maybe she just imagined it. Her dream was more inviting than the prospect of someone bothering her in the middle of her afternoon nap. This was her only break before her evening classes, and she needed that dream to continue. The view of mismatched eyes, and the soft smirk on Catra’s face was imprinted in her mind.
She could enjoy that, couldn’t she? They might not have been anything official yet, but Catra. The girl that Adora wished months ago, that she maybe liked her back. Just enough so they could at least be friends. But now, Adora knew that Catra had feelings for her, and after everything they went through, she could embrace that. Now Adora could lay in her dorm room and daydream about holding Catra and putting her face in the crook of her neck, just relaxing. So maybe she was a bit smitten. No one could blame her. They spent every moment together they could, texting during lectures and hanging out together after. She knew Catra wasn’t big on being affectionate towards others, and yet Adora was an exception. Whenever they spent time with their friends it showed, she would flinch at hugs, not expecting them. Still Catra found her ways to be close to Adora. Showing affection wasn’t maybe her strong suit, but Adora was there to meet her in the middle. Sometimes just their shoulders would touch. Sometimes Catra’s confidence showed and she would quite literally sit in Adora’s lap. Sometimes it was just her finger tucked into the back of Adora’s shirt. Out of anyone’s view. Sometimes she would hold her hand even if she was doing something else. Adora would laugh at the way Catra ate soup with her left hand if not for the warmth that spread in her chest then. If anyone would point out the affectionate gestures, she knew Catra would retreat. Last time that happened they were hanging out with their friends. They met up to play a boardgame, but Catra ended up telling them to play without her. She just sat snuggled into Adora’s side, her head tucked under Adora’s chin, while she was slowly scrolling some book on her phone. They ended up in that position after an hour of a game of pretend. Adora pretended that she wasn’t melting inside at Catra getting closer, and Catra pretended that her snuggling into Adora was just because she wanted to stretch her legs. After Adora had her arm around Catra’s waist and her fingers intertwined into hers, she was not too happy to lose that. It took all of three minutes for Bow to notice.
“You guys are ADORABLE,” he squirmed, holding his hands to his cheeks. Everyone laughed at his comment. Adora felt a blush on her face, but that disappeared as soon as she noticed Catra freeze. Adora could feel the tension in her body right under her hold. When the goodnatured chuckling died down, Catra just excused herself to the bathroom. After coming back the weight of her back against Adora’s torso was just a memory. She ended up on the opposite side of the couch and remained there for the rest of the evening. Adora understood. Or rather she tried to understand, while letting Catra be Catra. She didn’t say anything and when they were getting back to their dorms, she found Catra’s hand in hers. Everything seemed right in the world then. They would find their place together and Adora was going to be patient about it. However, she still longed for those touches. She wasn’t innocent and she would initiate them herself, and the way Catra relaxed into her was cathartic. She would live and breathe those moments. It was like an invisible force was pushing them together. She sighed and looked at her phone. She texted Catra earlier that she was going to nap instead of getting lunch and they could get some food after classes were done. They had different schedules for the day, so Adora knew that Catra would be sitting in a lab right now, learning some photo editing software and being all grumpy about boring lecturers. Adora felt an overwhelming need to poke her in the cheek right now. Maybe she was a bit more than smitten. The knocking was back. Adora rolled over and got up, ready to tell anyone who wanted to steal her precious daydream to piss off. She grunted and opened the door, pulling the most displeased look she could.
“What’s that face for, you dork?” Catra laughed seeing Adora’s grimace.
“Catra!” Adora’s face went on a full trip. From irritation to shock, bashfulness and into that soft smile that was saved only for Catra. She stood there wearing Adora’s soccer letterman jacket. That made the warm feeling inside her chest grow. Adora gave it to her after one of the matches, because she was cold. Now it was like Catra didn’t have anything else in her wardrobe. She never told her to keep it, but she quietly hoped Catra would never give it back. It was like a part of her was always with Catra. Before she could think about it, she had her arms around her in a hug.
“Whoa, look out dummy,” Catra pulled away, shoving a paper bag between them. Adora looked at her puzzled. “Wait, what are you doing here?” she wasn’t complaining, but a moment ago she was sure, she wasn’t going to see her for a few hours.
“I got us lunch, duh,” she answered in that snarky way that Adora knew was just supposed to hide whatever she was actually feeling. There was a flash of uncertainty in her eyes. Adora let her inside the room with a grin. Seeing Catra in there always made her feel warm. Something about her being comfortable in a space that was just Adora’s. Catra dropped down on her bed, settling the bag next to her.
“Couldn’t sleep?” she asked, poking the bag absently. Adora saw those little glances directed at her.
“Couldn’t sit in a boring Photoshop class?” Adora smiled and plopped down on the bed next to her.
“I could learn more on my own, so I decided to bail,” Catra smirked. “Wait, you remember what class I have?”
“I sometimes listen to you, you know,” Adora pulled out her tongue. “Besides remembering your schedule is convenient. That way I can plan when I can see you.”
“I…uh. Okay,” Catra seemed to not know what to say at that. Adora waited. “Thanks.”
“Thanks?” she tilted her head, imitating a puppy. Maybe she wanted to tease her just a bit.
“Ugh… You know,” Catra pushed lightly at her shoulder. “For caring.”
Maybe she also wanted to hear that.
“Of course, I care about you,” Adora smiled.
“Dork,” Catra shoved her in the side and fell onto her back, stretching.
“Yeah, I am,” at this point, smitten might not have been enough to describe Adora’s feelings. Catra was just laying on her back relaxing. Adora opened the bag with food and pulled out three small trays of sushi and some miso soup. She would have laughed for Catra’s choice of eating fish, again, but then seeing her all comfortable on Adora’s bed made her heart flutter. She heard the quiet rumble coming from Catra’s chest. Catra was sunbathing in the warmth of afternoon sun. Adora set the boxes on the coffee table. That feeling of longing came to her. Adora wanted to wrap her arms around Catra and bury her nose behind her ear, in that soft puff of fur there. She touched Catra’s hand and made gentle circles with her thumb on the top of the palm of her hand.
“I’m gonna go grab us some plates, be right back,” she placed a soft kiss to Catra’s shoulder and got up. She was being patient, there was no reason to rush. If someone saw her in the corridor when she walked over to the communal kitchen to grab the plates, she didn’t notice. Her daydream came to life and she didn’t need any more distractions. Maybe she was pacing a bit. Having Catra in her room, wearing her jacket and relaxing on her bed was making her buzz. This was something she wished for a long time. Being patient wasn’t easy sometimes, but the feeling of being with Catra like this was worth everything. She stopped in front of her door. Plates in her hands. This was alright, she could have this warmth in her life, she could want to be with someone like this. She took a deep breath. It was alright. She opened the door. Catra was still lounging on her bed. She smiled. She put the plates down and crawled on the bed.
“Did you just come here to nap?” she teased, her head over Catra’s face, hair cascaded over her shoulder. She saw how Catra’s ear twitched when it tickled her.
“Don’t forget lunch,” a sly smirk showed up on Catra’s face, her eyes still closed.
“Oh? Is that so?” Adora grinned and gently slid her fingers over the side of Catra’s neck. She felt the rumble hiding in Catra’s throat.
“Maybe,” Catra said, the tone of her voice lacked that usual snarkiness. Adora knew that tone, although it didn’t come out of Catra that often. Maybe she wasn’t the only one that felt that in her chest.
“Comfortable there?” she smiled and started to softly scratch behind Catra’s ear with her other hand. A soft purr started to fill the space between them.
“Yeah,” Catra sighed. “I knew trading my classes for a nap was worth it.”
“And lunch, right?” Adora smiled. She couldn’t keep the tease in her voice either. Being like that together felt too good.
“Duh,” now Catra was smiling, that gentle expression that was saved for Adora. Adora had it catalogued in her mind. Adora could swear every time she saw that expression her chest was bursting from everything she felt. Their mouth were inches away. She could feel Catra’s breath on her chin.
“I was daydreaming about you earlier,” she confessed.
“Oh…” Catra’s cheeks turned a shade darker, she opened her eyes for a second but closed them right after. She looked like she wanted to say something. Adora waited again. “I missed you, that’s why I came here.”
“I missed you too.” Adora touched their noses together playfully. She could feel Catra’s breath on her cheek.
“You’re such a dork,” Catra smiled and bent her arm over her to grab at Adora’s shirt collar. “Come here.”
That was invitation enough. Adora closed the gap between them in a soft kiss. Their lips met and she could feel all that warmth flow out of her chest and fill the room. She felt every muscle in her body relax. It was gentle and exactly what her body longed for. The sound of Catra’s even purr filled her ears. Both of them weren’t going to rush anywhere, just happy to be there. Together. They pulled away, Adora put her forehead to Catra’s. Both of them sighed at the same time.
“Such a dork,” Catra giggled.
“Worth it,” Adora joined in a chuckle and planted a kiss on her forehead. Catra’s stomach grumbled hungrily.
“Right. Nap and lunch, how could I forget?”
“And you.” Catra smiled, and Adora thought she could daydream about that smile forever.

Hi everyone 💙 I thought I'd make a little colouring tutorial! Just for a laugh really 💙 my advice for anyone who wants to colour is to just play around with everything and eventually you'll come up with a style you can all your own!! I'm not the best with words but I hope someone finds this helpful! This is gonna be under a read more! (I’m sorry if this is really long. I’m not good with tutorials so this is very text heavy!)
Software I use: Paint Tool Sai (Also I use a tablet and pen which is connected to my laptop for my stuff)
First of all, I get the image I wanna colour. For this instance it’s this image of Kenma!  Sometimes I resize the image a little sometimes I don’t depends on how big or small the original is
Tumblr media
Once I have the image I want I’ll reline it by bringing the opacity down of the original image and putting a layer on top and then drawing over.  I always use a pen size of 9 to line. idk I just think it looks better. It’s small but also a good size where I can see clearly. My brush is just the standard pen brush. I use a pen stabilizer of around S-6 (slow and easy to control)
Tumblr media
Once I’ve got the lines I put the flats down and also colour the line art!
Tumblr media
To colour the line art I go to the layer I wanna colour over and then select ‘clipping group’ this means I will only be able to draw on the layer I want to go over!! You can also preserve opacity of that layer but idk I’m just used to using the clipping group. I tend to use a colour that’s slightly darker than my base colour. Oh yeah, each thing gets it’s own layer so if I’m lining the hair then I make a hair layer and if it’s a shirt then a shirt layer and so on
Tumblr media
Once I’m done with this I can start shading and lighting things!!!! I prefer the cell shading style which is the one I do in all of my stuff. Idk I just think it’s easier for me!!! To shade I play about with darker colours (Don’t shade with black) of different hues and then do a clipping layer over what I want shade and make that layer multiply and bring the opacity down to around 38-40% to lighten something I tend to make another clipping layer under the shading one and use an airbrush on an luminosity layer and bring it down to around 10% that way it makes the base colours look a tad bit lighter without doing anything massive.  Whilst I do this I also add my little details like my stars in the hair and the little ‘sparkles’ these are just things I add because I love stars and sparkling things!!!! These are all done with an luminosity layer and I don’t bring the opacity down at all!!!
Tumblr media
Finally I make a new layer at the very top and add an overlay layer. Normally I use a dark red, pink or purple and bring it down to between 20-40% depending on how it looks. This makes things more vibrant and idk I just really like it!!! I also add a background colour. I’ll also use this as a time to edit up any missing spots I might catch onto
Tumblr media
I really hope someone found this helpful!!!! If you ever need any help with anything or even little tips you can always ask me!!! I’m still learning myself but I promise you aren’t going to be a bother!!! I’d love to see the things you make!!!! Just keep playing around and you’ll find your own style developing!!!!!!! Try to not compare yourself to other people!!!!! Also please take your time and don’t rush things!!! You’d rather post something that took a while but you love it as opposed to something that took forever and you don’t like it. Don’t post for the sake of posting or else you’ll feel burnt out!!! Also, if it takes a while that’s fine!!! Sometimes my stuff takes me a couple hours and sometimes it takes me a couple days. Depends on how I’m feeling and how motivated I am!!!! If you did read this then WHOA! I hope you have a wonderful day!

when i started making gifs what was subjectively twenty years ago but in reality only two, my overarching question was: how? how do i even begin? i searched through what felt like hundreds of tutorials that only explained bits and pieces of the process and eventually, between a combination of tumblr posts and youtube videos, i cobbled together a working method of How To Do It. that was Very Exciting, but it wasn’t particularly satisfying because i didn’t know why i was doing the things in the instructions i was following. a lot of it didn’t really make sense to me in the wider scheme and, most importantly, i didn’t know how to improve. it took me quite a long time and a lot of experimentation before i got to the point where i felt like i had a solid understanding of all the pieces. during that time i found what i think are easier and/or better ways of achieving particular results than i’d learned in the tutorials, which makes me wonder why anyone would want to teach people the most convoluted/difficult way of doing something in the first place, when simpler/easier methods are available.
that led me to thinking about making my own tutorial(s) - basically creating the guide i wanted but couldn’t find when i started, something that goes through the whole process and explains not just what to do but why you’re doing it (where applicable; some things are pretty self-evident). like any skill, it’s not hard to make gifs once you know how, but for me, at least, there was a very steep initial learning curve in a conceptual sense. i don’t think i can be unique in that respect and if there’s somebody who’s as adrift as i was out there, i’d like to help them to make the things they want to see in the world.
also, the truth is that most people who make/write tutorials are bad at it. this isn’t a judgement on graphics makers. people at every level of every area of knowledge i’ve ever come across are bad at documenting procedures. they assume knowledge that the audience may not have, they skip entire steps because they’re so used to doing something that they don’t really think about it anymore, and their instructions are often unclear or needlessly complex (sometimes because they don’t entirely understand why they’re doing what they’re doing, either). so apart from being quite unhelpful to someone who’s trying to learn, poorly written tutorials are very dissatisfying to me, a person who enjoys explaining things to other people and has been paid to do so in a variety of professional environments and is quite good at it. i want to make these things better and it pains me when i cannot do that.
so, would anyone actually be interested in any sort of tutorial i could make?
bear in mind my technical specs are mac OSX-specific and photoshop, so not all of my learnings may be applicable. to the best of my knowledge, photoshop works the same way across any operating system; however, i don’t know how far its specific commands can be extrapolated for other graphics editing software. i’d certainly be willing to give it a try if you are, though.
there are a lot of people who can show you how to do very cool, very beautiful things to your gifs. alas, i’m not one of those people (i am envious of those people!), but i can certainly help you make your images look more aesthetically pleasing than they’d be if left to their own devices. i can take you through the whole process from video file to uploading your finished gif to tumblr, or i can talk about one particular aspect, e.g. basic techniques to make your gifs brighter. (i can also teach you tricks like how to combine multiple gifs into one image to fool tumblr into displaying more than 10.) (i think my record is 18 gifs in one set?)
really, i just know how overwhelmed and completely stupid i felt when i first started out. (heck, i still feel that way sometimes when i can’t figure out how to do what i want to do.) and maybe it actually isn’t that hard for anyone else; maybe it really is just me. but if it’s not, then i’d like to help make it less hard for someone else, if i can. because, like i said, i’m a weirdo who enjoys explaining things. so. yeah.
okay, i’m shutting up now.

It really bothers me how tech illiterate Gen Z is.
It really bothers me how tech illiterate Gen Z is. And that’s including people born in the weird 1996-2002 era in between millennials and us.
Being able to use social media isn’t at all a substitute for knowing and being able to operate a damn computer. I know I sound like some crotchety developer from the 70s, but it really is terrifying how little some of the people my age and younger know-- and I’m nearly 20. Let’s get this out of the way: the oldest people in Gen Z are around 25. They are adults, and this is a major issue that will soon impact a majority of adults.
Onto the main issue: Generation Z is, as a whole, largely unused to operating computers in easy ways-- using keyboard shortcuts, being able to protect their privacy, being able to access content that isn’t legal (e.x. through torrents), even using Microsoft Office... I’m still unable to let go of 8th grade, 2014-15-- I had to teach one of my classmates how to use certain features of Microsoft Word, keyboard shortcuts, and a mouse. The basic ones. Like right-clicking, ctrl+C and ctrl+V, and using the dictionary feature.
At the time, I was woefully in awe of how stupid she was, and took it as a moment to roll my eyes and feel both smug and disgusted. Now, I know better than to write her off as an airhead who didn’t know something I’d assumed was universal.
I was fortunate enough to have been born in 2000, and to have gone to an elementary school that was still in the odd middle ground between “let’s educate the kindergartners about computers!” and “eh, screw it, we don’t have that much funding and their parents will probably teach them at home anyway.”
I learned the proper method of typing when I was five. We went to our school’s computer lab at least once a week and practiced and learned. I learned about the different parts of a computer (kindergarten edition, so nothing detailed about internal parts, but my parents are software engineers who taught me later down the line).
And then... they just stopped. The last time I, as a kid, did any sort of computer learning or proper keyboarding that was school-initiated was 1st grade. At the latest, that’s the first half of 2008.
For perspective, children born in 2008 are now 12.
I don’t know how else to describe how bad it is. Time is passing. Older people think that Gen Z is “tech literate”, but it simply isn’t true. We are social media literate. We are wary of online advertising (but still fall prey to it, thanks to shifting marketing strategies). We use social platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Tumblr. We care about social issues. But unless we teach ourselves, we know next to nothing about information technology.
Our parents, overall, did not teach us. Schools, in their haste-- whether that be out of sheer laziness or lack of funding or some twisted combination-- failed us.
Putting aside things like piracy of entertainment or being able to use all ten fingers to type, our security is at jeopardy. So many companies take advantage of and actively prey on us for our computer illiteracy and lack of knowledge on digital privacy.
Even I’m not well-informed enough to make a real write-up on it. It’s something I’ve noticed, and something I’ve read enough about and been taught about by my own parents and my own technology classes in college to be afraid of. People can’t do research. They can’t use keywords.
I’m being somewhat overzealous, but it is a problem how quickly basic things like using computer parts, doing in-depth research on your own, and privacy are just not being taught to young kids anymore. I haven’t stepped foot in elementary school in a long time, so maybe things are different now, but I highly doubt five and six year olds of today are being taught about computers via computers instead of using interactive iPads.
This isn’t to say that everyone in Gen Z knows nothing. I am Gen Z. Many, many kids and adults born in Gen Z are fully aware of the ramifications of this issue and others related to it. But there’s just as many, if not more, who aren’t.
TL;DR... There’s a lot Gen Z wasn’t and still isn’t being educated about when it comes to computers and tech, and it’ll definitely lead to problems later down the line.
