s. you get stuck in your crush/study buddy's room during a freak storm.
w.c. 1.8k
w. gn! reader (I thought a fem reader when writing this, but then I noticed that I didn't really make it gender coded! so I figured it was a plus it came out this way!) , suna! x reader , fluff! suggestive! bc there is some steamy kissing and of the making out
a/n: Earth spun a wheel between Rin, Osamu, and Atsumu for me to write for and it so conveniently picked Suna Rin
Ending up in the same room as your classmate/crush during a storm, at night, with no electricity had never been on your bingo card for the year. Yet, here you were, blinking back into reality seconds after the lights just went out.
"Shit" Suna sighs. You can hear him start to move, making out the shadow of his body standing up and moving towards his beside drawer.
"I have a candle in here." He mutters, the obvious rummaging being heard before it ceases after you somewhat see a cylindrical shape in his left hand. The smell of paraffin going up into flames accompanies the slight bit of light coming from the match he just lit, it fades away the moment he blows out the match after getting the candle to light.
It isn't much, the light coming from the medium sized candle, but it lets you fawn over his face, his entire being. It's a flattering light and it sets a mood you wish you could do something about.
"You think the Professor will cancel the test?" He shivers a little when he sits down across from you again, rubbing his hands together.
That's the reason you were here in the first place, to study for that damn test.
Suna had sat next to you at the beginning the semester after getting there at the last minute and the last open seat had been the one next to yours. Ever since then, you had exchanged small talk and numbers with each other. It happened frequently, befriending the people sitting next to you in class, some days it was a great help to ask each other if the other had done the homework, understood yesterday's lecture, or if they had notes because one of you couldn't go to class that day.
But you only got excited when Suna asked you for your version of the notes from the previous lecture. Everyone always complimented your penmanship, but the first time he got your notes for reference against his, he sent a text:
lol you write really pretty
You smiled to yourself at it when he sent it and could only send a thank you back.
He didn't really befriend anyone else in the class and neither did you because of it. You didn't have the chance to when any free time in the class where the professor hadn't started lecture yet was taken up by conversation he tried striking up with you. It automatically made you study buddies by the time this first test came around.
"Well if it looks like the rest of the campus, or at least half of us lost electricity too, then it might be a no brainer to save it for another time."
He lets out a puff of air as a sarcastic laugh at the situation, "It's like that shit you say. Being delulu is the--"
"Solulu." You finish for him, giggling.
He lets out a 'heh' and leans forward while hugging himself even tighter, "Sorry you got stuck here. The storm really came out of nowhere."
"I'm sorry I got stuck here." You counter, your body starting to shiver at the increasingly cold air filling up the room with harsh cold rain storming just a window away and no heater to protect against it. "I'm in your room after all."
"It's fine," He says, his eyes acting a bit more fox-like than usual as he stares you down before he adds, "Let me give you one of my hoodies, it's getting cold."
And before you can interject and say that won't be necessary, which it really won't--you don't need Suna's hoodie, you're fine freezing to death if it means you don't have to breathe in his intoxicating scent clinging to your skin--he's getting up and walking to his closet.
As quickly as he gets up, he's coming back and handing you a hoodie, the specifics of it like the color or design not something your eyes couldn't register at the moment.
"Thanks." You meep out, basking in the moment your head first slips through it and you feel the hoodie envelop you. You didn't know what was keeping you warm now, the actual material draped over your body or the fact that it was Suna's and he had worn it before, it was his.
When you look back at him and squint a little, you can tell he's wearing one of his own too. One he rarely wore--yes you noted how frequently he wore his hoodies, you couldn't help but make the observation.
"Well if we think tomorrow's test is gonna be cancelled..." Suna drags on, "We can play Mario Kart on my switch?"
You weren't one to frequently come across the opportunity to play on a switch, so you asked, "It can work without wifi?"
"Yea, " He nods, "it's the only I can think of to keep us occupied while we wait to see if the electricity comes back any time soon."
You can think of something else.
And so does he, but he won't tell you that either.
While he gets up to get his console from his desk, you nervously near his bed.
"Hey, Suna, can I play on your bed?"
A shiver runs up his spine and his eyes go wide as he's disconnecting any unnecessary wires from his switch. Time stands still for him and-
"Suna?"
"Yea!" He manages to blurt out like it's not big deal as he comes back to you with the console in hand. When he joins you in sitting on his bed, next to you, propping up the little screen across from both of you, he says, "And you can call me Rintaro. If you want."
You lean over a bit to look at him curiously, noticing a slight change in his demeanor, as if he had something else busying his mind. His eyes seemed caught up in a thought.
"Sure."
That small observation of yours became a thing of the past soon after you had finished playing two matches against him.
He had become your worst enemy.
"You do not let me catch a break!" You laugh and yell at the same time, shoving him with your shoulder.
"Just because you don't play it often, doesn't mean I have to go easy on you." He defends himself, smirking as he looks at you from the corner of his eye while he picks a new map to play on.
You toss your controller to his side of the bed to throw an over exaggerated fit.
"Well now I don't wanna play if I'm gonna keep getting bullied like this." You haughtily huff and cross your arms
Suna jokingly rolls his eyes and is about to ridicule you when you're both suddenly enveloped in darkness again.
The candle must've gone out.
And for some reason, the lack of light made for a lack of noise in the space between the both of you. The rumbles coming from the storm outside filled the void between the both of you and eventually closed the space between you two when a monstrous crack of thunder and lightning made you yelp and grab onto whatever was near.
The shock of the sudden noise had you breathing a bit quick and with your arms around Suna's torso, who instinctively put his arms around you too.
It was quiet, yet not at the same time.
The roaring storm outside was noisy enough,
but you and your study buddy weren't saying anything.
Your hands can feel how sturdy he is underneath the layers of his shirt and hoodie. He's big, an obvious fact considering he is tall and a volleyball player for the school, but it seems so much more prominent when your hand feels so small compared to his huge back.
His breath tickles your ear and you move your head back when you shiver because of it.
His face is now in front of yours because of it. And now you're both in a position to kiss. You can feel his body and mind contemplating it, by the way his head moves a little and how his breath starts to sound. You don't doubt that you're probably doing the same.
When you feel his hand squeeze around your hip, you give him a small peck on the lips. It took all of your courage and some of the intensity from the moment to do it.
You have no opportunity to berate yourself for doing it when he chases after your mouth immediately when you're about to pull away.
And now you're making out with...
"Suna." You sigh, feeling him manhandle you onto his lap
"Rin." He breathes quickly before he reaches for your mouth again.
You can't help the mewl you let out from savoring the moment like the repeated relief of taking off your shoes after a long day of walking.
"Rin." You repeat after him.
Rintaro, Rin, is breathing just as heavily against you as you are. He's going as far as you are, whatever you do, he does in return. When you swipe your tongue against his lips, he does the same, except you open your mouth to him when he does.
And now you're both kissing with tongue.
You moan particularly loud and he juts his hips up into you right before he pulls away from you, the look in his eyes something you so agonizingly wish you could see right now.
"I like you a lot." He confesses, moving his hands down to slither across your thighs and hold them there.
"I like you a lot too." You say back, gripping onto the hem of his hoodie.
"Yea?" Rin breathes against you, going back in to kiss you
"Mhm." You sigh in relief.
"Fuck, "He can't help but push up into you, "You're so fucking pretty."
"You think so?"
"Know so." He groans and heads towards your neck for an assault, holding you in place by the back of your neck. "I want you so bad."
You grind your hips against him, turned on by the confession, "I want you bad too."
BOOM!
And you get scared shitless by the bitchy thunder again, dragging you away from the intensity of your increasingly intense makeout session with Rintaro and into a breathless heap of laughter with him. He had fallen back onto the bed, dragging you down with him and into his arms, snuggled into the crook of his neck.
"Does this mean I can finally follow you on Instagram?"
"Huh?" You're still dazed from the oxygen sucking of a makeout you just shared with him
"I found it a long time ago, but you never gave it to me so I didn't wanna seem like a stalker. You looked really pretty in your post last week though. I like pink on you."
"Stalker!"

it’s like you’re dreaming.
the rain thumps on your window softly. in contrast to the relentless downpour outside, your room emits a cozy glow, linen and warm.
looking down on the man sprawled across your lap, you brush his hair away from his face. he looks peaceful like this. carefree and completely relaxed, a sight of vulnerability. he wouldn’t show this side of him to anyone but you.
you’ve been waiting for this day, haven’t you?
your feather-like touch tickles the apple of his cheeks, stirring him awake.
“‘m sorry, did i wake you?” your smile so bright he squints his eyes to focus on you. you look so pretty and he loves this view. the moon’s light shines on your face, the upturned corner of your mouth and the tip of your nose. you look ethereal.
he shakes his head. “no, ‘s okay. i wasn’t even asleep anyway,” he lies through that sweet smile of his. a rush of memories hit him as he traces each crevice of your face.
he remembers how that exact smile of yours drooped slightly in devastation that day. the day he left you. the exact day of the previous year when you both swore that you would be each other’s. you remember the feeling, like a slap to the face.
so why? why was he back? and why were you so willing to take him back?
a comfortable silence takes over and you move your hand to ruffle his hair. your fingertips caress his messy mop with utmost care, as if he was going to break like glass with the slightest pressure. your fingernails scratch his scalp and he instantly relaxes. well, his arms around your waist don’t.
“we can’t keep doing this, y’know?” you sigh, rubbing his back gently. he could feel his heart weigh down and the fuzzy feeling in his chest ceases. he knows what you mean, but he wishes he doesn’t.
“keep doing what?” his voice is still raspy and tired, like it was every single morning when you woke beside him.
“this. all of this.” he hears his heart crack and he thinks you did too. “it’s wrong,” you add, ignoring how your heart thumps.
“then take me back.” you jump slightly, not expecting how immediate his response was. “if you take me back, everything will be the same again. like this all never happened,” he trailed off.
you know its sincere. you know you missed this, him. you miss his smile, his laugh, his voice. he does too. he knows you miss him, and he misses you as well.
you’re silent, and he hates when you are. he wants to hear your voice.
say something, anything.
the thumping in your heart gets so loud, you can hear it in your ears. your mind goes blank, not knowing which to follow, your heart, or your brain?
because your heart screams yes, but your brain yells no.
it’s like you’re dreaming.

“So, Miya, huh?”
You reach for the book on the top shelf and add it to the stack you’ve been building in your arms. There’s six of them so far, an assortment of titles on chemistry, literature, and engineering. You’re trying your best not to think about actually having to read them.
“What do you want, Terushima?” you ask, looking at your checklist and scanning the shelf for the next book.
The boy sits on one of the tables behind you, lifting his legs on the surface and crossing them. “Your jacket,” he says, “it’s Miya’s.”
You pull the next book down. “Congrats, you can read.”
He ignores your remark. “So,” he continues, “are you gonna break him too?”
You turn around and frown at him. “What are you talking about?”
Terushima grins at you, taking the books in your arms and walking away. Before you can protest, he tells you, “Relax. I’m just gonna help you check them out.”
“What if I need to get more?”
“You don’t. You just ticked the last one off your checklist.”
You look at the piece of paper in your hand. He’s right. You got them all.
“Why are you here?” you ask, keeping up with his strides. “What do you want?”
He sighs. “You’re a really suspicious person, you know that?”
The two of you walk down the steps of the library, making your way to the first floor. You get a good look at Terushima as he keeps himself moving ahead of you. He looks a little down. Almost guilt-stricken.
“You know,” he says, “I had my bets on Suna.”
“What?”
“He seems like your type. He even saved you from me, had that whole knight in shining armor thing going for him.”
You follow him through the maze of shelves that greet you at the bottom of the stairs. You pull Atsumu’s jacket closer to your body. Fuck Rin. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
He stops and gives you an unimpressed look. “You can cut the act, you know,” he tells you. “It’s not like you care what I think about you anyway.”
“Terushima—”
“You used to call me Yuuji,” he says. “What happened to that?”
You grab the books in his arms and walk away. “It was two weeks in freshman year. Why can’t you get over it?”
He’s hot on your heels, slinging his arm over your shoulder when he catches up to you. “A man never forgets his first love.”
“Again, it was two weeks,” you remind him, trying and failing to shake his arm off. “And we barely did anything.”
“I still loved you.”
You roll your eyes, ducking under his arm to get it off. “I highly doubt it.”
“When you fall in love, you’ll know what I mean,” he says as the two of you reach the circulation desk. He leans against the table as you hand the librarian your books and ID. “You didn’t answer my question.”
You sigh as the librarian takes your ID over to the computer. He’s clearly in the mood to bother you. No point avoiding your fate. “What question?”
“About Miya,” he tells you. “Do you think you’re going to break him?”
Your eyes meet his in a glare. The look on his face is smug, challenging even. I know you, you practically hear him think. “Contrary to your belief, I don’t go around looking for people to break.”
“Okay,” he says, “but you do it anyway.”
The librarian comes back and hands you your books and ID. You thank her, picking the stack up and setting it down on a table nearby. You run a hand over your forehead and look back at Terushima. “I’m sorry for hurting you then,” you tell him. You just want to get this over with. “I don’t know what else you want me to say.”
He winces. “Kinda wanted you to profess your undying love for me.”
“You’re pushing it a little, man.”
“I guess,” he says, nodding. He reaches a hand to scratch the back of his neck and looks at you sheepishly. “I actually wanted to apologize for the other night. You were drunk and I took it too far. I’m sorry.”
Your mouth falls open a little. “Oh,” you say. You weren’t expecting that. “I didn’t know ‘sorry’ was in your vocabulary.”
“It is for you.” He chuckles. “Like I said, a man never forgets his first love.”
You pull a face. “You don’t really mean that, do you?” you ask, but he’s already backing away.
“See you around, princess!”
Tumblr media
“Yer not readin’ all of that,” Atsumu says, frowning at the stack of books by your bed.
The two of you are curled up on your twin-sized bed, half-asleep as your speakers loop the entirety of Lorde’s discography. You’re not pointing fingers, but it was definitely Atsumu who took charge of the aux.
You give him a sad smile. “Oh, yes I am,” you tell him. “If I don’t become a chemical engineer, my gran’s gonna say ‘I told you so’ and marry me off to a rich husband.”
“I could be yer rich husband,” he teases.
You slap his chest as he laughs. “Don’t say shit like that,” you murmur. “Also I highly doubt your money-making abilities.”
“Hey! Take that back!”
“Nope.”
“No?” He raises a brow. “Let’s see about that.” He moves himself on top of you and starts tickling your sides.
You squeal. “‘Tsumu!” you scream, trying to push him off. “I will punch your pretty face if you don’t stop!”
He stops, laughing as he straddles you. “Ya think I’m pretty?”
Groaning, you pull his shoulders down so that he’s lying on top of you, head on your chest. “Shut up and go to sleep.”
“But—”
“Shhh.”
His chest still rumbling with laughter, he turns his head to look at you. You’re smiling at him softly, a hand coming up to touch his hair. You start to close your eyes and he swears he could stare at you forever. He could stay here forever, in your bed with your arms wrapped around him as you rest your eyes, and he would be perfectly fine.
If he’s being honest, Atsumu’s never been the type to be interested in anything serious. He has a goal—a big one at that—and relationships have always come second to it. Osamu calls it being stupid, Atsumu calls it having a one-track mind, Aran says same difference. It didn’t use to bother him, but he’s been thinking about it more lately.
Sometimes, he’ll be doing setting drills and he’ll wonder what kind of drills you do. Do you just do the school chant over and over again? Do you cartwheel all over the gym like Bokuto? Do you go up into a pyramid multiple times? Do your teammates toss you around for hours? He hopes you don’t hurt yourself.
Or he’ll be in the middle of a scrimmage and he’ll come up with a prediction for how the show you’re watching is going to end. The two of you like coming up with the wildest endings to see who actually gets it right. Maybe he’ll text you about it after the match.
Or he’ll be showering and he’ll think about how you look on your knees, sucking him off and looking up at him with those wide eyes of yours. It’s weird, real weird, he knows, but he’s never seen it as an entirely sexual thing. Sure, it’s still sex, but for some reason, it feels different because it’s you.
He finds himself sitting at the kitchen table thinking about you. Buying groceries thinking about you. Going to bed thinking about you.
It’s insane, he knows it’s insane, but he doesn’t mind it as much as he knows he should. You can take up as much space in his mind as you want and he’ll let you. Fuck, tear the whole thing down and he’ll be at your side with a hammer in hand.
As he watches you fall asleep, he knows that you have his permission to wreck his whole world. He’s just there to stand by and watch you do it.

A/N: the tags here and comments from ao3 were motivating and i still had some ideas in mind so i made another part. may add or change some stuff here are there [ao3] 1 ⪻ ꒰ 2 ꒱⪼ 3
•~°~•~°~•~°~•~°~•~°~•~°~•~°~•~°~•~°~•~°~•~°
Your team lost in the finals to Sakura Chuo High. It was a good game, though. The first set was a win for your team. But the next two were won by Sakura Chuo. The last being 23-25. The feeling of defeat comes slowly. You're more relieved that it's over, glad to wipe away the sweat all over your face and to stay dry at the present moment, finally getting the chance to breathe and let your heart beat steady. Competitive as you are, you don’t feel crushed per se. Sad, sure, but not as devastated as some of your teammates seem to be. If anything, what’s has you misty eyed is their sobbing rather than the actual loss. Feeling the pain of all the training, the practices, to only lead you all not crossing the final step to reach the peak. That's what happened last time. Everyone worked so hard to get here. Still you didn’t make it to the top. But that's how it is. Sometimes, you’ve got the ball rolling and it stops at the last moment.
There’s still pride left in them, you think, that they understand second place is still really good. Some of your teammates will come to that conclusion later. Others, not really. They have their reasons and they're right to believe otherwise. To you, the team has proven that you’ve all come this far. Every other school will see you all as strong opponents for the next nationals. As for you personally, You could say getting up here is a huge confidence boost as a player and you want to play up to here again.
After the game, as you all wipe away the sweat and rehydrate, your captain and half of the team approach you while you drink from your bottle.
“Sorry we made you look bad in such a big game,” your captain starts, saying it with at most exaggerated seriousness that purposely borders on being funny. Paying no mind until one of your middle blockers said, “We promised to do our best after all."
You are confused, raising a brow. Then, they give a half bow to you and apologize in unison, confusing you even more. They were so in sync that it was suspicious, but a soft part of your heart gets the best of you. “Huh? What's this all about?” you exhaustedly cried out to them, worried you scared them at some point into playing better. You are in no position to suddenly have them be like this to you.
“We said we’d do our best so you can score a date with that one guy from Hyogo,” the team’s second libero states in fake disappointment and the others nod. In an instant, It all clicks.
This is so stupid. “Damn you guys.” You are so done with them. Still you can’t help but laugh out loud. You’re well aware that this is a joke, but the idea that they thought winning nationals will get you a date with an attractive stranger tickles your mind in a way you didn’t think it would and it has you howling in laughter, not caring of passersby or the other team notices. It fills you with pride that, despite the loss, they found humor in it all. Your team laughs along with you and you all banter while readying to leave.
The middle blocker from Hyogo in question, Suna-san, didn't quite leave your mind. After that little chat with him, you did not expect to see him again anytime soon. Most teams don't stay to watch the following days live after they're out of the nationals brackets. Though Inarizaki stayed for another day after they lost, you already assumed they’d be gone the day of the finals.
There was a part of you that would like to believe they did stay to watch. You already met Suna-san by chance once. Why not a second time? Or even just see other Inarizaki players walking around like before. But it seems they didn’t. You didn’t feel that strange chill when Suna-san had his eyes on you, not before, during or after the match.
However, you’re kind of glad it's likely that he didn’t watch at all. He wished you luck yet you lost. Now that is embarrassing, even when you were playing really well in the match. Therefore, you can move along in peace.
As you walk alongside your teammates, carrying their own respective gym bags, you like to think that the luck Suna-san wished for you will show up at a different time.
•~•~•~•~•~•
Spring came, all of you bid farewell to your seniors and you became a third year yourself. Without your input or by default, the team pretty much chose you as their vice-captain, which is actually much better than being the captain, in your humble opinion. The first years are a handful. They do have a great deal of potential, just guiding in the right direction, and maybe a gentle knuckle to their heads sometimes but they’re mostly fine.
Oddly for you, some teammates like to gossip in good fun and the little story of you chatting it up with a middle blocker from a powerhouse team gets to the first year players. From what you’ve heard and what the first years were willing to say that they heard, it's not far from what happened. Nonetheless you know that your freshmen, teammates’ active imaginations might have imagined it differently.  Now, they think you're the senior who has the hidden ability to charm attractive boys when in reality it was just a sudden burst of confidence and living in the moment.
Regarding that one guy in question, Suna-san was rarely in your mind unless it was about nationals or the  boys’ side of the nationals. Though the memory of the chat you had with him has been slightly tainted by the fact that more people know about it now and you have to always point out that you really weren’t trying to get it with him– you don’t even know where that assumption came from– whenever the story gets retold, you can still look back at it and feel pleased with yourself that you did not fumble. This is even more so because you winked at him, twice. The first time is the most fun to recall. You don’t know if you could do that again if you end up seeing him in nationals, if you even get there.
And then, the first half of your third year was to your favor. The team does great enough to win your prefecture's Interhigh Preliminaries, setting you to what could probably be the last nationals you'll attend in your school sports career. Perhaps that luck was paying off and you hope it will last you until the end.
The trip to Tokyo was much like last years, yet the new batch of freshmen brought a new kind of excitement when you got there. Much like the last inter-high tournament, your team waits by the stairs outside of the tokyo gymnasium, under sunnier weather, not to join in the clustered crowd inside. Keeping the team in a good mindset was a job you had with the captain and manager. That's what you were mostly doing. Still, the waiting has you bored and you distract yourself by looking on to the crowd of other players. The teams are a little more lively than they were back in January, it might be because of the brighter, warmer weather. New uniforms also wait alongside your team, new or returning teams from years ago. Plenty of old uniforms from last nationals make their return. They all come with matching banners of their school’s name. You find yourself looking for a particular shade of maroon banners and sports jacket, yet they weren’t there
The tournament brackets are inside the gymnasium, but you have the gut feeling that Inarizaki will be here too. You could do that right now, ask a teammate what team is here for Hyogo. After all, you could also be wrong. However, some of your more teasing members are quick to jump to the conclusion that you're hoping it’s Inarizaki because of, well, a certain someone, rather than assuming you're asking out of genuine curiosity. They’d be right too but you're not really in the mood to feed into their teasing. It's also on the bottom of your list of priorities. So, you spend the rest of the wait checking on your team’s well being while scanning the crowds of colorful volleyball jerseys every now and then to distract yourself.
The thought fades once your team enters the gymnasium and you, along with the rest of the teams present, prepare for the opening ceremony. It was only when you check out the tournament brackets after the ceremony do you see that Inarizaki is present. It’s impressive but no surprise to you or anyone. From what you've gathered, they won't be up to play until much later, same as your team.
Teams that aren't the first four matches in the main arena of the tournament spend their time being an audience of those matches or wandering around the stadium until it is their turn. That's what your team has been up to. Everyone is in high energy and high spirits, so most of your teammates are walking around either watching the games or checking out the stalls for souvenirs. Some opted out to just sit and preserve their energy for the match, leaving them as the guard of everyone else's bags.
You are one of those that decided to walk around. The excitement was getting to you a bit and you practically could not sit still. Your manager suggests you come along with her, figuring mayhaps getting on your feet will shake it out. She was just going to the vending machines and didn't want to go alone. You join her after snagging money from a pocket of your bag, thinking you could use a box of milk, actually. If they have milk, that is.
As you walk together, other bright uniforms pass you. You briefly watch the match from each court as you move. The squeaks of rubber shoes on concrete, shuffling feet, the impact of volleyballs on hands and arms, players shouting, audience cheering and playing their teams' cheer music, it all mixes and blends into the festive and energetic atmosphere nationals is known for. You finally reach the hall leading to the exit of the ground floor. It is where some of the vending machines are lined up. From what you can remember, most of them are on the other side, near the entrance.
“Shit”, your manager hisses as she hastily pads her pockets. Concerned but already understanding where this is going, you ask anyway. “What’s wrong?”
“I forgot my wallet.” As you thought. She then hands you her clipboard, and jogs off to the direction where you both came from. “I’ll be right back,” She called out, leaving you standing alone. You sigh, defeated yet humored. She bought her clipboard with her but not the money to buy anything.
After watching her disappear from the corner, you scan the options presented to you by the vending machine in front of you. Juices, soft drinks, canned coffees– maybe you’ll get one later– water, no milk. You walk to the next one and it's the same. The one after that is not even drinks. It's cup noodles and is also tempting. You keep walking and hear footsteps of other people but you pay no mind as you read. Probably other players anyway. It was on the third to the last one, a white vending machine like the beverage it is encasing. The milk is packed in small cartons that you find adorable since you were a child. There's the milk you usually drink and other varieties. It had you thinking
Should you buy the usual or be a bit adventurous and get the flavor you haven’t tried before? The pros of the latter is you enjoying milk and having another kind of milk to like. The cons being you might get an upset stomach right before a game or during the game for suddenly trying something new. However, you may regret it if you don’t give it a try.
Before you make up your mind, you sense it again, the feeling of being watched. Turning to the corner where you last saw your manager, she is still nowhere to be seen. Has she found her wallet and is on her way or still shuffling her bag? You huff impatiently, looking back at the milk cartons behind the vending machine’s glass. Maybe you should just buy your usual plain milk.
After making up your mind, you take the money out of your pocket, slipping the clipboard under your arm. Then, you feel it again, someone's eyes on you. This time, It's different. It’s specific, familiar. It’s the same to the one back in January, that chill. Your awareness heightens. Looking back again, there are other people walking. You half-hope that you would see him. Not because you want to, wanting to be right that it is the same chill as back then. But after scanning the passersby, specifically any person in a volleyball uniform, there wasn’t a single black jersey. It’s somehow disappointing.
Sifting through the money in your hand, there's plenty of 10 yen coins, some 50 yen too. What you need is 100 yen. As you count, someone walks up and stands at a distance from you.
Unsure if they were waiting for their turn to buy, you took a quick glance, noticing maroon cloth. From the corner of your eye, there you see him, Suna-san of Inarizaki's Volleyball team standing in front of the vending machines, staring at the rows of featured bottles, right beside you. His phone with a bright screen on one hand. The other is in the pocket of his jacket.
Your gut is telling you to say 'hi', like he’s already your friend. Winking at and talking to someone once from a few months ago does not count as friendship. Still pretending to be preoccupied, you observe him. It seems, like you, Suna-san came without a beverage in mind, scanning the selection of drinks behind each glass. He makes careful strides forward while his attention is on the side, not in a hurry. You played with the coins between your fingers. Should you talk to him? Shifting your stance to the other foot. The distance between you gets closer and he stops just far enough for him to notice. You're already here, might as well have your fun again.
“Hey,” you greet, a little playful at the tail end.
From his focus on the vending machine, his head pirks up, turning to you. Those feline-like eyes are on you again, less unintentionally threatening this time. Just like before, they gape open in mild surprise then they droop back. He smirks at you.
"Hey," Suna-san echoes with the same voice as he did back then–  low, cool, lazy, like having recently woken up. He doesn't appear to have changed much from the last time you saw him. Still having the same haircut. You wager he grew a cm or soThere is a glint in his gaze you can't quite put your finger on. “You made it.”
You softly laugh at his comment. Was he expecting to see you at Nationals? "Yeah. I'm surprised too.”
"Your team did win second place in the last tournament," Suna-san points out. Hearing it from him sounds like a bigger deal. Well, he didn't have to tell you that, tooting your horn for you. He follows up with, "congrats, by the way."
Although smiling in thanks, you try not getting it too big. You said, "don't say that yet, that was the last time. We haven't played our first match today." Your attention is split between the vending machine and talking to him. There is a pause as you do.
“How was it,” he asked. A vague question. It pulls you out from choosing a drink.
Turning to him, you say, “you mean the finals?” It's still clear to you the feelings during the match, the rush, the exhaustion, the thrill. “Even though we lost, it was great. Manage to score a lot too,” recalling scoring a spike in one particularly long rally. The frustration in the Sakura Chau player's faces still brings you satisfaction. “I wanna get up there again. And, well, actually win.”
He nods. Likely understanding your sentiment. Inarizaki did get to the finals last year. However, losing Itachiyama. He would definitely know what you mean. Suna-san pointing with his phone has you looking down on your torso, "you're the vice-captain now, huh?” it made sense that he is referring to your jersey number.
You shrug one shoulder nonchalantly, though there is still pride in your voice, "yup."
He slides his phone into one of the jacket’s pockets. "How's that going for you?"
"Better than I thought. I’m not the one holding the sign, standing front all the time, nor the one doing all the talking for the team when the sports media has questions,” you said with a grin. A grin of someone who has tactically dodged a bullet. “Most of the time, all I do is keep the team in good shape and rally them up when they’re too energetic."
Suna-san’s head tilted up slightly. “You’re not overshadowed by your first years, are you?”, a subtle challenge. Not out of doubt, more like tempting a cat with a stick out of curiosity. You take it, though, just to play along.
“HAH! No.” you assert. “They work hard and play well, but I won’t let myself fall behind, even if the team’s winning a game.” A humble brag, really, one that you're willing to make. To your surprise, the expression of his eyes changes to something you can only assume being pleased at your answer. “And you, Suna-san?” Throwing the question to him, crossing your arms, expecting to be impressed. “I heard that the twins are quite a menace in court.”
Suna-san lets out a light, humored scoff, glancing to the side. “Compared to our old captain and vice-captain, they are. But, they’re-” he trails off a little, thinking of what word to use for them. “…manageable.” You nearly burst out a laugh.
It's time for you to lightly challenge him. “That's not stopping you from playing well, does it”
Only Suna-san’s gaze of his sharp eyes returns to you. His irises are in shades of murky yellow complemented by the light of the vending machine. They stay on you as his stance shifts- straight posture yet laid back- in brief seconds of finger twitching anticipation.
“No”, he said, calm and cool, a simple answer delivered in unwavering, unobvious confidence. There’s nothing for you to deny and you don't try. Impressive, very impressive.
It's cut short when you realize Suna-san hasn’t been choosing anything from the vending machines. Were you making him wait? You sway a hand to the display. "Do you wanna buy something? I'll get it for you if you want."
“You first,” he insisted. Both of you choose in silence for your beverage. Returning back to your self debate, the usual or something new? Scheming uppermost row, a carton of chocolate milk you always wanted to try but always put off. Given the situation, you are feeling adventurous today.
After selecting the chocolate milk, the payment was inserted and the machine began processing it. “Chocolate, huh?” Suna-san said, somewhat impling if it's a favorite of yours.
“Never got to try it. I heard it's good, though.”
Taking the cold carton out of the opening, you ask the other player, “So, which is it?” Wanting to follow through your offer to do it for him. A finger hovers over the buttons in preparation.
“Same as yours, actually” A stretched out arm hands you his money. You find it nice you're both drinking the same thing.
As you punch in his request, Another person approaches behind Suna-san, also a member of Inarizaki’s team. Speaking of one of the devils, a Miya, wearing number 2 as well. You were about to tell Suna-san of him. But the moment he sees you, the guy quickly makes a 180 degree turn– somehow not squeaking his shoes– and rushes back where he came from. Whether you scared him off or he had to go back for his own reasons is beyond you. You leave it be. If had something to say to his teammate, he wouldn’t have left. You insert the coins for the machine to process.
Mere second after Miya left, your manager came running from the other side. “SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG! IT GOT LOST IN MY BAG!” She stops beside you, huffing and a sweaty forehead. Seeing the middle blocker, then at you, She smiles wide.
“Oh!” she said, the suggestive tune goes unhidden. It takes one particular look from you to convey that your warning her to not start anything. “This is Suna-san. He’s a player for Inarizaki. Suna-san, she’s one of our managers,” you said.
She greets him well and he politely responds, beginning with small talk. You don’t participate, letting them be and listening in. Suna-san makes your manager look lively in comparison to him. He is very nice to her and you can't really blame him. The manager has that effect on everyone.
You don’t let yourself gleefully observe the interaction for too long, nearly forgetting his drink. No one noticed it has dropped, so you took it out of the machine. The pen attached to the clipboard you’ve been holding fell and you picked that up too. Holding the pen, an idea pops up. You wipe the moisture of the box with the hem of your jersey and write something on an area of the box where the letters can fit in.
After you are done, you pat your manager’s shoulder. “Hey, buy something already,” gladly reminded her of why she had to run back for money. She does, moving to the different vending machine, leaving you and Suna to talk again. You handed him the chocolate milk carton. He hasn’t noticed yet.
“When’s your match?” you questioned.
“Don’t know. Haven’t asked our captain yet.” there’s a spark of interest in his eyes. “Are you gonna watch us?”
“I’d like to, honestly. I didn’t get to see much last year.” your manager is still choosing, but you know you're running out of time. So, you’ll slip in one more, little, not-so-consequential challenge to him.
As you take the provided straw and carefully tear off its plastic, you ask, “Do you think you’ll win today's game?”
Suna-san sees it too, that you're playing with fire with light touches.
He indulges you, “Yeah. We will.” a hand slips to his pocket phone to take it out.
“You?” the same question from earlier, mixed with a serious note by an accompanied raise brow.
“I’d like to think we will, just like last tournament,” you said while you inserted the straw. “Plus, I believe I still have the luck you wished for me last time, but… “stopping to take a sip of the milk. It's sweet and creamy, the chocolate comes a little late.
You return your attention  to Suna. his eyes' impression changed in a blink to something so close to…enticing. Chillingly so, It's almost flustering. However, you’re not backing down in whatever this is happening between the two of you.
Cocking your head to the side, you coyly say “you’ll still wish me luck, won’t you?”
A short, quiet and breathy laugh escapes his lips. There’s a new warmth in his eyes too.
“Good luck.” such few words, given in cool, yet sincere confidence. The luck he wishes you may as well be tangible.
Just when you were about to speak, your manager held you by your elbow. Her other hand was holding her bottled drink. “C’mon let's head back.”
You turn to her, not without you grinning back at him, “See you again, Suna-san.” Taking the tip of the straw between your teeth.
You bid him your farewell with a drown out gaze long enough to feel captivating. Then, you give him a gentle wink before you head off.
After your manager waves him a goodbye, you and her walk off as you take sips again. No words were exchanged until turning to the corner, where boys were out of sight.
“At it again, are we? Don’t you think it’s a bit too early for you to be flirting with boys?
You don’t really like how she puts it. To you, a little bit of teasing back there doesn’t count as full blown flirting.
“It’s nothing like that.”
“Hehe, once the other’s hears about this–”
“Haha, Don’t” you cut her off with a threatening smile. She cheekily smiles back and rolls her eyes. Not pushing it. Likely understanding that you’ve grown tired of the boy charmer jokes about you.
Navigating through the busy halls of the gymnasium, you drink. It tastes a lot better now, more of the chocolate flavor dancing around. You wonder if you overdid it by the end, that you may have had too much fun. Such a shame you did not see his full reaction. The most you got was seeing Suna-san’s expression slightly falter with a smirk from your periphery. You suppose that will be enough proof you got to him somehow.
With each passing sip, the chocolate milk becomes sweeter from your own satisfaction.
•~•~•~•~•~•
As Suna inserts the straw that comes with the box, he sees something written with pen’s ink
‘Good luck in your matches,’ signed with the kanji of your name.
He lets out a gratified sigh to himself. Your wink is still replaying in his mind.
“Damn it.”

(Name) sighed as the air blew in through the bus window. It was time for another Volleyball training camp. But this time was different. Especially considering all of his boyfriends. We're finally gonna be together again.
That's right boyfriendS as in more then one. He was already at school with one. But now that the other two were gonna be there....(Name) huffed loudly. Catching a certain someone's attention.
"Hey babe. Wanna see the picture I just took of Atsumu?" Suna sat beside his smaller boyfriend and pulled him close. (Name) tried scooting away, but his boyfriend wouldn't let him.
Atsumu made a dying animal noise and everyone laughed. Wel except (Name)'s older brother. "Rin what have I said about your blackmailing?" He didn't hesitate to answer. "Not to tell you about it. Sorry Kita."
Everyone laughed again as Atsumu immediately threw himself on the couple. "Oi! (Name)! Get ya boyfriend under control!" (Name) flinched under the weight and tried ousting the male off.
"Rin get this sangwoo ass bee off me!" Atsumu yelped loudly as he was shoved into the floor. "Oi Barry he's taken remember and besides, you know the rules. Don't bother (Name) or Kita will make you run laps."
A shadow covered Atsumu. He slowly looked up meeting the cold eyes of his captain. "Sumu. 30 laps when we get to Nekoma." (Name) rolled his eyes and looked out the window. He grabbed his headphones and plugged them into his phone.
He silently raised a headphone to the male beside him. "Rin I'm gonna listen to music." He didn't get a response but felt the male take the other headphone. As (Name) turned on the music his eyelids got heavy.
Suna felt something hit his shoulder and smiled softly. (Name) was sleeping softly on his shoulder. Which was rare since (Name) didn't like PDA. Suna took a picture and sent it to a groupchat. The groupchat had the other two boyfriends.
~
The I love (Name) ♡ Groupchat
Sleepy Fox: sent a picture
Gamer Kitten: saved a picture
Solar Energy: saved a picture
Gamer Kitten: wow he's actually asleeping on you? on the team bus? how tired is he?
Sleepy Fox: apparently according to his brother, (Name)'s nightmares are back
Solar Energy: THATS NOT GOOD!
Gamer Kitten: Shoyo your caps lock is on again
Solar Energy: oh my bad. but seriously that's not good. is he okay?
Sleepy Goz: dunno but I'll make sure sumu stays away from him s he can sleep. bastard flopped on (Name) early. his brother assigned atsumu 30 laps when we arrive lol
Gamer Kitten: only 30? I would've given the bee 50
Solar Energy: isn't that a bit mean Kenma?
Gamer Kitten: no :)
~
Suna closed his phone and sighed, looking over at (Name). His kissed his forehead and layed back. Maybe he can catch some sleep before they make it to the training camp.
(Name) woke up when the bus stopped. He raised his head and yawned. Rubbing his eyes. He looked through the window spotting the Nekoma high school.
(Name) turned seeing a sleeping Rin. He gave a small smile. He took a picture but before he put the phone away, it was snatched by the no longer sleeping male. Suna gave him a sleepy grin and a week before pocketing the phone, and walking off the bus.
(Name) blushed and frown, before quickly followed the male wanting his phone back. Once off the bus though, (Name) was almost taken down by a ball of energy. Or in this case. (Name)'s youngest boyfriend Hinata Shoyo.
(Name) groaned loudly at the impact but didn't say anything. Cause he knew when Hinata came, his other boyfriend wasn't far behind him. (Name) felt more arms wrap around him, before feeling a head snuggling into his back.
Ah yeah. His more quiet boyfriend. Kozume Kenma. "Welcome (Name)!" (Name) flinched at the volume of the voice. Kenma who felt the flinch quickly calmed the other male. Suna who was watching from the side quickly got jealous.
"Oi! Come on you three we got a training camp remember?" (Name) tried to walk to the gym but didn't move. He hated how all three of his boyfriends were stronger then him. So he did the only thing he could do.
"If you guys let me go and go to the gym I MIGHT let you guys sleep with Rin and me tonight." Just like that the other two were gone and quickly making their way to the gym. The older Kita quietly laughed at his brothers misfortune. But even with the glare sent his way.
He knew (Name) was happy, and that he loved them very much.

Summary: A few weeks pass repeating the same routine, school, Japanese classes, manager duties. The twins and Suna often drop by at your house and either teach your brother volleyball; help your mom; or what happened most of the times, force you to cuddle them by laying on top of you, Atsumu and Osamu heads in each of your shoulders while Suna was in your lap. Your family was way too fond of them, but admittedly, so were you.
Suna x reader; Miya twins x reader (platonic)
[Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4] -> Second Year
Now it’s August, and you are a day away from the “golden week”, a fancier name for a small vacation. However, instead of resting, the team  will use this time to practice for the Spring Interhigh in Hyōgo, so you have to be with them.
“So, by the end of the week we have a practice match with other school, right?” you ask during dinner during your first day, receiving a nod from Atsumu “What was the name of the school again? I keep forgetting it”
“It’s fukdnhjai” Atsumu tries to answer with his mouth full.
“Can you eat first and then talk? Manners kid, manners” you say while hitting his arm playfully
“Sorry. It’s Fukurodani, a school from Tokyo”
“Apparently, they have one of the top 5 aces in the whole Japan. They are really good” adds Osamu
“Damn, that sounds cool” you say while writing down the school’s name “like this, right?” you whisper to Suna, who was sitting next to you. He looks at it, takes your pen and corrects a symbol.
In these past weeks you and Suna had become really close since he always leaves you in front of your house after practice. He became much more affectionate, at least with you. “Close” he answers while flickering your forehead slightly before kissing the same place.
The golden week passes fast, the boys practicing so much that you genuinely ask yourself how nobody hasn’t passed out yet. One of your duties as a manager was to cook for them, and despite telling them that you could figure it out alone, Osamu insisted in helping you despite being tired himself; which not only turn into teaching you how to cook traditional Japanese food, but also you two became closer than before. .
Today it’s Friday morning, the last day of the golden week and the day of the practice match with Fukurodani. Admittedly, you were really curious about the top 5 ace, the only picture that came to your mind was a big, intimidating dude.
The boys are inside the gym preparing it for the match while you were in charge of receiving the school. If you have notice something about the Inarizaki volleyball team throughout the other practice matches is that the schools are very intimidated by them. Not only they are crazy good, but they don’t look the nicest from afar.
“Ehh excuse me? This is Inarizaki High right?”
“Eh? Yes, yes. I’m sorry, I was talking to my family. I’m Yl Yn, Inarizaki’s volleyball team manager” you say after regaining some composure, you were so busy calling your mom that didn’t hear the bus arriving
“It’s fine, don’t worry. Nice to meet you, I’m Fukurodani’s coach; this is my assistant. Guys! You can go out now!”
“Welcome, and thanks for coming from so far. Our coach should be over there if you want to talk to him first. I can help your team to set up”
“I’ll take the offer, thank you” With that they go looking for the coach. You turn around at the sound of loud voices, a dude with greyish hair coming out stretching with the rest of the team behind.
“HEY, HEY, HEY! Who are you? Are you…In-arizaki… m-manager...?” the gray hair dude asks, stuttering in the middle as his eyes go down. You look at him confused, following where his eyes are looking, making you remember what you were wearing.
Japan it’s a really humid country, and that makes the summer unbelievable hot. The guys saw how uncomfortable you were when summer began, so they told you it was okay to wear shorts if that helped you. The first time they saw you with it they were flustered, all of them were barely able to look you in the eyes, but by now they’re used to it. However, Fukurodani clearly wasn’t used to it considering that the grey hair dude was looking at your legs with a flustered expression.
“Bokuto-san, be respectful and don’t look at her legs” a black hair dude says, trying to hide his blush when looking at you “I’m sorry for the inconvenience. I’m Akaashi Keiji. He’s-”
“I’m Bokuto, the ace of Fukurodani! Sorry for staring, it was rude” interrupts him the owlish dude enthusiastically
“Hi, nice to meet you. I’m Yl Yn, Inarizaki’s manager. And don’t worry, it was my fault anyways, I forgot that you guys aren’t used to it. So, I’m sorry”
“Yn? Sounds foreigner! Nice to meet you too!” says Bokuto
“I am foreigner, I arrived early this year. I’m still not used to such a hot summer, but I can change though, I don’t want to make you guys uncomfortable”
“I’m sure we can survive, don’t worry. And welcome to Japan” tells you Akaashi with a little smile. Are all volleyball players this handsome?
“Anyways, let me walk you to the gym, the guys are already there” you say while turning around. You can hear some whispers behind that sounded like woman, but before you could turn to check there was an arm around your shoulder.
“So Yn-chan, how did you end up in Japan? When did you arrived here? From where are you? In what grade are you? How long-”
“Bokuto-san take your arm off her, you can't just hug people without them telling you it's okay. Also, don't bombard her with so many questions”
“It's okay, it's okay” you quickly say when you see Bokuto's eyes widen with full worry “One of my boys acts pretty similar so I'm kind of used to sudden hugs, and you don't look like a creep, which is good. Don't go over there line though”
“I will never! Promise!”
“I heard that you are in the top 5, is it true?” you tried to answer Bokuto’s question
“YES! I am! I'm number 4!”
“That just means he couldn't get into the top 3”
“Akaashi! You shouldn't say that! I'll show good I am, Yn, I promise!”
“I would love to see that, I’m sure you’re amazing. Anyways, here’s the gym” you take Bokuto's arm of your shoulder “you can use the lockers to change if you want to. Kita-san! Can you help them with that?”
“Of course. Hi guys, please come with me…”
The boys from Fukurodani leave following Kita, who's now dealing with the questions of Bokuto. Turning around, you finally were able to see the voices that you heard earlier, coming from two girls who were holding some water bottles and other things.
“Hi I'm Shirofuku Yukie, just call me Yukie though, and she is Suzumeda Kaori. We manage those owls. You're Yn, right?”
“Yep, I’m the manager of the foxes here. It’s nice to meet you”
“Same here. How can you wear shorts with them around? I could never” asks Yuki
“Well, they just got used to it. I guess they try harder because I'm a foreigner?”
“Perhaps, I'm from first year too by the way” adds Kaori making you raise your hand for a Hi-5, which she happily gives
“It's so nice seeing other women after spending a week with a bunch of boys. Thank God I got Kaori with me, I don’t know how you did it”
“It’s been hard, but I love these idiots; plus, I always try to talk with some of my female friends”
“Your team looks really scary in comparison to ours. Bokuto-san...He is really something” says Kaori
“They do look scary, they're idiots though. Is Bokuto-san always that cheerful?”
“He is, he is really the definition of extrovert. But ever since Akaashi joined our school, he is a bit more...thoughtful” answers Yuki
“I see. Do you have everything ready? Need any help?”
“We have everything, don't worry. We going to get ready for out team”
“Alright, I'm going to my foxes. Let's talk later!”
“Yeah, lets”
You go back to the guys, who were stretching and warming up while you were talking with the girls when the Fukurodani boys go out of the locker room and start doing the same on their side. You go to Suna and plop onto his back, since he was on the floor finishing his legs stretches, and sigh.
“Too much people” you say burying your face on the crock of his neck
“Ya did great chibi-chan, like always” you feel a hand ruffling your hair
“Thanks Samu”
“Aw how cute. Now get out of my back, I need to get up” says Suna poking you playfully before delicately put you in the floor.
You whine making them chuckle, Atsumu helping you get up before kissing your temple; you start walking towards the bench with the boys following you so they could strategize something with the coach.
The match starts right after, Fukurodani serving first for being the guests. The guys were able to receive the serve easily, Atsumu choosing his twin to do the final hit; however, Fukurodani is able to receive it as well. Akaashi, whose is the setter of his team, chooses Bokuto and before anyone notice, the ball is on the floor with a loud sound, right by the end of the court. You’ve never seen such a strong hit, making it clear why Bokuto was on the top 5.
“HEY, HEY, HEY!” Screams Bokuto “YN! You saw it?! Did you saw that hit?!”
“That... was awesome. How do you...? Damn, that was so cool”
“I told you I will show you! Look at the next one too!”
You feel the eyes of the boys on you after the  interaction with Bokuto. Were they confused? Maybe annoyed? Whatever it was, it felt like something click into them, suddenly looking more concentrated than ever. They manage to get the point back right after, Atsumu serving now. The first few points go hand-in-hand, neither team wanting to lose.
“Bokuto is really good, don't you think Yn?” Asks you the coach
“Yeah, he's awesome. The rest of the team is also really good”
“True. Bokuto takes all the attention which helps the others attack by surprise since all the eyes are on the Ace. It's clear why they are a top school”
“Yes. Also...it's weird, but despite Bokuto-san being our opponent...I kind of want to cheer for him. Is that normal?”
“It is, not only he's on a higher level, but Bokuto also is an easy-to-love boy. Not a lot of people can dislike him”
You look in Bokuto's direction, who was saying something to Akaashi; despite being so muscular and tall, all that came to your mind when looking at him was the word ‘adorable’. You shake your head and look back at the score, Inarizaki being behind by 1 point.
The score hit 16 by Fukurodani first, so the coach asked for a time-out.  You hand the bottles to the boys while they listen to the coach, who is telling them to keep calm and continue doing what they were doing. When he finished Atsumu looks at you, annoyed expression on.
“Since when ya and Bokuto-san are friends?” says with a jealous tone
“Why are you cheering for him? WE are your team” scoffs Suna
“I don't think we’re friends yet, I just ask him if he really was in the top 5 and he said he will show me. And he's awesome, you can't deny that”
“...True” Answers Suna
“I will always cheer for you; no matter what you will always be my favorites, you should know that. I have never seen him play that's why I'm a bit more amazed now”
“Fine. I'll trust ya. Let's win this, guys!”
They go back to the court all fire up, ready to fight back, and you could tell that Fukurodani noticed their energy, but instead of being intimidated they seemed more energized, specially Bokuto. The match continues to be really close, neither team being able to break for more than 2 points; both teams were giving their absolutely best.
+++
It's was already late in the afternoon when the practice finished. The teams played 7 sets, Fukurodani winning 4 while Inarizaki 3. Both of them were exhausted after so many intense sets, half of them on the floor trying to gain their breath. The coaches tell them to stretch and relax while the girls and you pass them their bottles and towels.
“This were some good matches. Both teams were on fire” says the Fukurodani coach to yours.
“I couldn't agree more. It's hard to find teams to have a good practice”
“Completely true. I’m glad we came here”
“It’s sad that you have to go so fast” you mutter unconsciously when you went back at the bench, more to yourself than anything else.
“I’m sorry?”
“Eh? Oh, I just think it’s sad that you travel this far for just a day of practice. Don’t get me wrong, it was a good practice, but you know…” you felt your cheeks starting to get red
“Hahaha I get you. It’s a rare opportunity to practice against an extremely strong opponent. Will it be hard to find a hotel now? If we find one, we can probably stay for tomorrow too” the Fukurodani coach asks
“We are staying on a house near here, it’s quite big I’m sure we can fit the boys and their managers” answers your coach
“We can sleep with Yn!” exclaims Yuki excited, hugging your shoulders
“That should be enough then, let’s call the guys. Everyone come here!” calls your coach, both teams coming right after “so, we were talking with the coach and the managers, all of us agreed that this is the best we have seen you play so far. So Fukurodani, you guys are okay with spending another day here?”
“Can we? I thought that it was only for today” Akaashi asks confused looking at his coach
“We thought too, but like Yn-kun here told us, it would be a waste travelling so far for just a day of practice. So, you guys agree?”
“If the coach thinks it’s okay, I don’t see why not. It was a good practice, Bokuto-san did better than normal”
“Okay, then go to the house and clean yourself up. Girls, can you prepare dinner in the meantime?” the coach look at you three
“Sure thing!” says Kaori
You leave the gym in different groups. The teams forgetting about their rivalry and talking to each other like they were old friends. You excuse yourself to the girls to go over Suna and the twins, since you haven’t been able to talk a lot today. You arrived behind Osamu, who was the closest, and back-hug him squeezing your face in his back. He tenses up a little, but soon relaxes when he noticed your arms.
“Hi chibi-chan” he whispers, making the others two boys look back
“You guys did really good today. It was awesome”
“But we lost anyway” pouts Atsumu
“You can't always win Tsumu” you say going to hug him. He instantly opens his arms for you, hugging you tightly “Besides it was a good practice. You won 3 sets against a top 5 ace, isn't that good?”
“But still, I wanted to win”
“Well now you have an extra day to do that. You were close today” you tell him while untangle yourself from his arms.
“By the way, how come you convinced their coach to do that? And why?” asks Suna right before taking your arm to pull you into his embrace. He really must be tired considering he usually doesn't hug you outside.
“What the coach said was literally how it happened, I just said that it was sad that they came from so far for a day”
“Sad they came from far away or sad that Bokuto-san had to leave?” Osamu asked, small smirk on his face knowing how his twin would react
“About the travel? And your practice? Why would I be sad about...”
“YN! Wait!” you hear from the owlish boy, making Suna untangle himself “I'm so happy we get to spend another day here! Thank you for convincing the coach!” with that he grabs you and gives you a hug, your face going straight into his chest while moving his body side to side from excitement.
“Bokuto-san, let her go, you’re sweaty” Akaashi appears.
“But she's cute! And she said it was okay to hug her! Plus, she was hugging her team despite being sweaty too” says Bokuto letting you go. He ruffles your hair playfully.
“That doesn't give you the right to just hug her though, and she knows them for longer, I’m sure she’s used to it” adds Akaashi. Before Bokuto could say anything you can hear a scoff while a hand throws you back
“Hell yeah! Don't touch our friend. What do ya even want from her?” Atsumu screams squinting his eyes
“I just want to be her friend, she's nice”
“Well, ya can't. I won't let ya” Atsumu moves you a away
“Excuse me? You don’t get to decide with who I can or cannot be friends with” you asked
“That's not the point”
“Then what is the point, Atsumu? Stop being so childish, I can be friends with them and I will if I want to” you say
“Agh! forget it. Stay with yer new besties or whatever, ya didn't want them to leave after all! Maybe ya can convince their coach to take ya with them since yer're so comfortable with him!”
“Ok, now you are just being ridiculous Tsumu. Out of everyone here you shouldn't be the one saying anything, you were basically the same when she arrived to school” Suna steps in
“Yeah, stop being insecure and let her have friends outside of us” Adds Osamy, hitting his twin in the head “Now let’s go, our Chibi has more important things to do than deal with yer insecurities” Osamu pushes Atsumu forcing him to walk to the house, the blonde clearly not happy.
“I don't know what's gotten into him, but let us talk to the idiot first” Suna says ruffling your hair. He bows a little to Akaashi and Bokuto before going behind the twins.
“Sorry for that. I'm not sure what happened” you apologize to the two boys, who were clearly uncomfortable by the situation.
“It's fine. Not really something you could control” Akaashi looks subtly at Bokuto “You are related to them or...?”
“No, but the twins treat me as their lost twin or whatever. Don't mind them, while I love them, I'm not going to let him tell me what to do”
“That's good, I'm sure he cares for you a lot, but that isn't an excuse” Akaashi says while opening the door of the house.
“Soo... can we be friends?” asks Bokuto, hope in his eyes
“Of course we can. Go and take a shower, I will go with the girls to make dinner”
“YAY! Let's go Akaashi!”
Akaashi gives you a little nod while following Bokuto. You shake your head at the weirdness of the whole thing and go to the kitchen, where the girls were cutting some veggies. After a lot of hours with men, it surely felt nice having other girls around. About 2 hours later the food was ready, so you go to look for the teams.
“Guys, food is ready, let's go!”
The door opens and they start to go out. You walked with Kita and Aran, who are talking about some movie that the latter watch. Entering the cafeteria, the two of them asked you if you want to join them in their table, but before you could answer a voice sounds loudly
“YN! Sit with us” you look at the table where Bokuto is waving his hand, making you chuckle, before looking at the two boys that were with you, a silent understanding between the three. You sat next to Akaashi, who handles you a plate with a little smile.
“Since we are friends now, we should get to know each other more, don't you think?” tells you Bokuto
“Yeah, sounds nice. I'm not a good talker though, sorry”
“Don't worry! I got this”
With that he starts telling you about how he and Akaashi met, with Akaashi adding or correcting some details. A few minutes later you feel a tap on your shoulder; turning around you see Atsumu with a sad look on his face, with Osamu and Suna behind him, arms crossed and bored expressions.
“Need something Atsumu?”
“I'm sorry for reacting that way, Chibi. I...I got insecure and thought that ya would leave us for them; which was dumb, because I know that ya love us. I'm sorry”
“It's fine. Don't do it again though” you sigh taking his hand to squeeze it, making him relax “I'm not the only one who deserves an apology, you know?”
“I know” Atsumu now looks at Bokuto and Akaashi “Sorry for treating ya like that, Bokuto-san, I shouldn't have reacted that way towards ya either. Sorry for making the situation awkward, Akaashi-san”
“It's fine dude! Let's forget it!” exclaims Bokuto
“Good, can we sit and eat now? I’m starving” adds Osamu, who just sits besides Bokuto.
“Please, making this idiot understand may be more exhausting than volleyball” says Suna while sitting next to you, dropping his head on your shoulder. You play with his hair a little knowing how tired he has to be.
“Hey! It wasn't that bad” Atsumu fights back sitting on the other side of Bokuto
“What even made you insecure Tsumu? You know that I wouldn't just leave you” you asked putting some rice into yours and Suna’s plate, whose head was still on your shoulder.
“I don't want to-”
“He didn't have frie-”
“Samu! Shut up!”
The twins started to fight with each other, everything coming back to normal, Bokuto and Akaashi joining the chaos. At some point of the meal Atsumu, Suna and Bokuto started talking about volleyball; while Akaashi, Osamu and you where talking about some books and movies. By the end of the meal, nobody remembered what had happened.
You go back to the respective rooms, the two teams sharing the first floor while the managers have the second. Before doing anything else, you and the girls went to take a bath.
“You had the whole floor for yourself? Wasn’t it scary?” ask you Kaori
“Yeah, a little, but it was better than any of the boys watching me”
“Talking about the boys…How do you do it? How are you soo relaxed when there are so many handsome dudes around you?” Yuki asks
“I could ask you the same, probably our answers are similar. Because let’s not lie here, your team is handsome too, Akaashi has to be the prettiest player I have seen”
“You’ve got a point there… Wait Akaashi? You like him?”
“He’s handsome, I can’t deny that. That doesn’t mean I like him though. Like I think Tsumu and Samu are hot. Would I date them? No at all”
“Yeah, we definitely think the same about our teams”
After that talk you go to the room and put pajamas. The girls go straight into bed, tired, but you just lay on the futon unable to close your eyes, while your body was tired, for some reason you couldn’t sleep. You decided to go outside to breath some fresh air, hoping it would help.
“Why aren’t you sleeping? Weren’t you tired?”
“I could ask you the same, chibi-chan”
“Couldn’t sleep”
“Same, come here” says Suna, looking at you
You go and sit next to Suna, laying your head on his shoulder and falling in a comfortable silence. After some hesitation from his part, he puts his arm around you, hugging you. You stayed like that for a few minutes, looking at the sky with tired eyes.
“It has been a really tiring week, don't you think?” Suna breaks the silence first.
“Yes, it has been a lot. If I'm tired, I can't imagine how you guys are, you have been practicing a lot”
“Yes, but at least now I can spike better, I have more control. How's your family doing?”
“They're fine. They went to Kobe Harbor throughout the week. It looked pretty”
“Oh yeah, you haven't seen everything around, between classes and all. Sorry, I guess; if you weren't our manager, you probably would have more time to enjoy Japan or just relax”
“Don’t say that, you idiot” you hit him in the chest since you were still hugging each other “If I wasn't your manager, I wouldn't have been this close to any of you. Yes, it would have been fun going around the city or have more time to do nothing, but it would have been boring without you guys. I would choose this again if I could”
“The night really makes us cheesy, huh?” adds Suna with a little laugh “I'm glad you chose us or whatever…You know, I was a bit jealous of how you act with Bokuto-san and Akaashi-san, you just met them and already look so comfortable with them, it took longer for us”
“Not much longer either, Bokuto-san is just as persistent as Tsumu was. I think it is because I react different now compare to when I just arrived”
“How come?”
“Before I barely talk to people, but the more time I spend with you I become more...talkative, I guess. I still don't like people, but it's easier to talk to them”
“If you become as annoying as Tsumu, I'll drop you”
“Yeah, that's not happening. It's too much”
You continue talking for a while, sleep slowly getting into you as Suna’s warmth made you relax. He of course noticed, forcing you to go to bed; but before parting ways to your respective rooms, Suna grabs your arm and brings you close, giving you a kiss on your cheek. He turns around right away and leaves to hide his blush face.

The next morning starts early for the managers, since you had to go and make breakfast for the teams. Taking your phone out, you decided to film, since this week was full of practices it was hard to do it.
“Ahh we’re so lucky to have our chibi-chan with us, what would we do without ya?” says Atsumu when you serve him his portion, squishing your cheek playfully.
“Don’t be so dramatic Tsumu, it’s part of my job.”
“Tsumu is right, Yn-chan, I don’t think we thank you enough for all the work you do” adds Aran now
“What made you so cheesy all of the sudden?” you questioned. First it was Suna, then Atsumu and now Aran? “Don't worry about it. Go and eat, you have a long day today too”
“Thanks, we'll save ya a seat”
“HEY, HEY, HEY! Yn Hey!” You hear Bokuto scream while entering the cafeteria “You made breakfast for us too!”
“Good morning Yn-chan”
“WE made breakfast, your managers helped too. Good morning Akaashi”
“I know, I know, but this is the first time I eat your breakfast, it's different” Bokuto says
“Are you sitting with us today too?” Akaashi ask
“Tsumu save me a seat, I’m sure you guys can sit there too if you want”
“We'll see you there then” says before going straight to the guys table.
When you finished serving the boys, it was finally time for you to eat. You go to the table were the boys at, Atsumu pointing at the empty space that was in between Suna and Bokuto. You put the food down and take out your phone to film a little.
“Filming a video, Yn-chan?” asks me Akaashi
“Yep, I wanted to do it yesterday too, but I didn't know if you were cool with it”
“She has a lot of videos on Youtube, they’re cool” adds Osamu with a hint of proudness
“You have a youtube channel!?! That's so cool! I know someone who has one too!! I will subscribe right away!”
“Bokuto-san relax”
Breakfast past fast thanks to the two talkative boys, who connected way faster than anyone expected. While talking you feel a hand taking yours, slightly playing rubbing circles on it; looking at Suna, the owner of the hand, you noticed that he was talking with Osamu like nothing happened.
The new match starts with a powerful serve from Atsumu, marking the first point of the game. A few points pass and once again neither team can get a break point, however Inarizaki was able to reach 16 points first. Both teams once again gave their all in the sets, but this time the final winner was Inarizaki, taking 5 sets out of 9; despite how tired they were, you can see the satisfaction on the faces of your foxes. After giving them their water bottles and towels, the boys go to do their final stretches, in the meantime, the girls and you go to buy them some dinner since there wasn’t enough time to cook something for all of them. Even though you were supposed to buy food only for your team, you secretly bought two extra onigiris for Bokuto and Akaashi.
Once everyone was done it was time for Fukurodani to leave. The girls and you already exchange numbers, so you just hugged each other tightly before partying ways. Immediately after you go to Bokuto and Akaashi, who were also saying goodbye to the rest of your team.
“Chibii! I'll miss you!” says Bokuto while pulling you into a really tight hug
“I'll miss you too Bokuto-san”
“It was nice to meet you Yn-chan, I hope we can see each other in the future”
“It was so nice to meet you too Akaashi. Can I give you a hug?” you ask receiving a nod as an answer, so you moved to give him the hug which he received happily
“Chibi, give us your number so we can talk too, we already added the twins and Suna” Bokuto says passing you his phone so you can add yourself
“There, by the way, I bought you this. Don't let anyone else see it because you were the only ones that I bought something”
“Aww chibi-chan you're so cute!!” squeals Bokuto squishing your cheek
“GUYS! LET'S GO!” the Fukurodani coach screams
“Let’s go Bokuto-san. Bye guys. Thank you for the onigiris Yn-chan. Let's talk later” says Akaashi before entering the bus alongside Bokuto
“BYE-BYE!!” You wave at the bus saying bye to them, Fukurodani leaving the school.
++++
It’s the first week of October, before you knew it you were a few days away from the Spring Interhigh Qualifier, which started on October 7th. These past weeks the boys have been practicing so much, everyone getting ready to go to the Nationals. Today is October 4th, and despite having been practicing for so long, the twins didn’t seem to want to leave; out of all the first years those two were the most excited and nervous.
“One more!” screams Atsumu to Osamu, who gets ready to spike.
“Guys, you're overworking, go to rest” says Kita, but the twins just brush it away.
“Hey, you two! Stop. You can injure yourself. What's the point of practicing so much if you can't play after?” you call them now
“....”
“See how dumb that is? Go to stretch and then clean yourself so we can go”
“Yes madam!”
“Thank you, Yn-chan, you are one of the only ones that can stop them” thanks you Kita
“It’s alright, you can leave now, I'll wait for them to close the gym”
“It's late though, will you be okay?”
“Kita-san, it offends me that you think so lowly of me” says Suna coming out of the dressing rooms “I'll wait with her and walk her home like always”
“Thank you Suna, that makes me feel better. Then we’ll see you tomorrow Yn-chan” Kita pats your head, leaving with Aran right after. Suna grabs your hand and pulls you outside, making you sit on the bench.
“What time is it Rin?”
“8:34 pm, those idiots practiced longer than normal”
“They did. I'm sure it's because they're nervous, the tournament is on Thursday after all”
“I know, but man I'm tired” says Suna pressing his finger on his temples “they also made you stay here longer, you should be angrier at them, you know?”
“Nah, they’re working hard, I'm only going to get angry if they injure themselves or if they do something incredibly stupid”
“You are too soft, specially with those two” Suna pokes your cheek
“You talk like I don't treat you the same”
“Shut up”
“We're done, let's go” says Osamu walking out of the gym with Atsumu “Sorry for making ya wait for so long chibi-chan”
You close the gym and start walking to the subway, talking about the tournament, the teams that they would have to fight against, and about finally going to Tokyo. Before parting ways in the subway Suna puts his hands on your ears, successfully muffling the sounds of the station as he whisper towards the twins; you couldn’t make up what he was telling them, but whatever it was made them grin and nod. Both of them kiss your head before walking away, Suna in front of you as always.
“What was that about?” you ask
“What?”
“You covering my ears and talking to the twins, willingly, you okay? Have a fever or what?” you put your hand on his forehead jokingly. He rolls his eyes and takes it, putting it down without letting go
“Haha so funny Chibi” says with an annoyed tone, but breaks into a soft smile right after “Nothing important, sunshine, don’t think too much about it”
“But I wa-”
“Sunshine” he warns you
“Fine, I'll let it go”
“Good girl” he smirks you while squishing your hand, making you blush. He doesn’t let go of tour hand throughout the whole way, however he just acts like his normal self.
After showering you lay on your bed watching some videos, not tired enough to fall asleep. Suddenly you started to receive a bunch of messages. It´s 0:01, who on earth is messaging you at this hour?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You continue chatting with the boys while checking your group chat with Bokuto and Akaashi and the girls, all of them wishing you a happy birthday.
The next morning you see Suna waiting for you in the subway, which almost never happen since his morning practice is much early. You approach him making him smile the moment he sees you, handing you a bag. When you open it, the first thing that you notice is a birthday card, with a photo that you took with the Fukurodani boys and them printed; it also had a hoodie almost, if not the same, as one of your favorite hoodies of his.
“You know, you shouldn't have got me anything” you say hugging him tightly
“That's a terrible way of saying thank you” he wraps his arms around you, putting his chin on the top of your head
“Thanks Rin. You're awesome”
“I know”
“So humble”
“Shut up, chibi-chan. I gave you a matching hoodie and this is what I get. Unbelievable”
“Thanks, Rinie, you’re the best” you say bringing him down and giving him a kiss on the cheek. He blushes hard and just takes your hand to walk towards the train. When you arrived to school, you went to buy a drink at the vending machine, but before you could pay Suna pushes you lightly and pays for you “like I would let you pay anything today”
After that you go to the classroom, and as soon as you enter you got tackle into a hug, someone lifting you from the ground and shaking you side to side.
“TSUMU!!” you scream in shock, laughing right after
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHIBI-CHAN!” Atsumu says while also laughing. He puts you down still hugging you before giving you kiss on the top of your head. You open your backpack, taking Atsumu gift out with a smile.
“Happy birthday to you too Tsumu. Hope you like it”
“Don’t worry, I’ll love it” he says with watery eyes
“Samuu! Happy Birthday too! Here, I got this for you” you look at Osamu, who also hugs you
“Thank you chibi! I’ll give you my gift on lunch break” says while opening the gift.
As promised, Osamu gives you your gift on lunch break, a beautiful bento box full of your favorite foods. After the afternoon classes ended, you go to the gym; you find all the lights off when you enter, something weird considering that the second years are usually the ones arriving first. When you turn on the lights, instead of finding the empty gym you see a table full of snacks, a birthday cake and lots of decorations around with the rest of the team screaming a happy birthday and starting singing, while the four of you just stood there.
“We were talking with the team about your birthday, since three of us share a birthday now” Kita starts saying
“At the beginning we weren’t going to do anything special, just like for everyone’s else. However, then we remember that this is Yn's first birthday away from her home and thought how hard that may be. So, we ended up doing all this” says the captain
“Thank you so much. Oh fuck, I think I’m going to cry” you blink as fast as you could to stop the tears from falling
“Thank ya and all but… this was just for our Chibi?! Ya didn’t think of us at all?!”
“I told ya Tsumu, ya are annoying and because I’m yer twin it affects me too”
“Don’t fight for today, okay. Let’s enjoy the food and then go home” says Aran to the twins
“But practice…” asks Atsumu
“It’s good to have a break sometimes, Tsumu. Let it go now and eat” you tell him, making him sigh before agreeing. You all start to dig in while talking to each other, receiving lots of hugs from everyone in the team.
The afternoon pass quickly, so fast that you are already near your house along Suna without you even notice. Before partying ways at the front of your house you made sure to hug him extra tight, giving him another kiss on the check, which makes him blush hard. What an amazing birthday you had this year.

you stay behind with everyone else
“not interested in getting yer ear talked off, y/n?” osamu calls out to you with a lopsided grin. you’d be able to see it’s more a smirk if you study his expression a little more, but it’s nothing that you give a second thought to.
instead, you smile and let out a small laugh. “well, i’m not too keen on witnessing the potential ‘no’ that the guy’ll get since he’s mega annoying, ya know?”
you and the rest of the second years in the gym share a laugh.
there was truth in your gentle retort, though. you find it much more beneficial at the moment to stay in the gym and let your mind wander about your current mystery a little further—perhaps in circles for now, but eventually on a path that leads to somewhere. after all, if anyone is up to date with gossip--whether it’s in your own school or even one all the way in tokyo—it’s your friend group.
osamu and suna return to their reading and ginjima, finished with copying someone else’s homework, now settles comfortably by your side with his focus on his phone. seeing that you had been looking over his shoulder for a while, he adjusts so that the both of you can see his phone screen well.
you laugh gently at this. “sorry, gin, didn’t mean to be that nosy,” you say lightly.
he laughs and shakes his head to brush off your words. he doesn’t mind and instead finds a sort of pleasantness—he’s not too sure what word to use to describe the feeling—in browsing through social media together. after all, the both of you are good friends.
“no biggie,” he reassures you, sporting his usual and friendly grin, “‘long as you don’t mind seeing all these posts again ‘cuz i’m sending ‘em straight to the group chat.”
you two laugh.
“i’m sure it’ll still be funny the second time,” you quip.
gin giggles and returns his attention back to his phone. there’s a notification the pops up at the top of his screen, catching both your eyes.
it’s a message to the group chat from suzue that reads: “AYO???? AYOOO??? I’M JUST HEADIN…”
another follows: “AND I SEE ATSUMULDSLFSD??? DJFSDKHAH…”
ginjima lets out a small snort and taps on the notification to open it. once again, he adjusts his phone so that the both of you can see. after all, these messages aren’t private.
suzue’s messages fully read:
AYO???? AYOOO??? I’M JUST HEADING BACK TO TEH GYM AND I ???????? ASAKDASfkshdkfjsjdjfKJSDKHJASH
AND I SEE ATSUMULDSLFSD??? DJFSDKHAHASKJJKHASHKJ WITH SOME GIRL IN FIRST YR NAD SHES RLY CONFESSING AAAAHHHHHHH
SHES GOT CHCOLATES AND ALL
NAD ATUSMU IS EATING THIS SHIT UP
ATUSMU U FUCKING LSOER
“are you guys seeing this right now?” you hear suna call out which brings both yours and ginjima’s attention towards them.
they have goofy grins on their faces and the four of you share a laugh yet again.
“there’s no way,” osamu continues, his grin remaining on his lips.
“ballsy move from the girl if you ask me,” suna chuckles, “i wonder what he’s gonna come back saying.”
“pretty sure he’s gonna reject ‘er,” ginjima adds with a small chuckle, shrugging lightly as he smiles back at his phone.
your gaze falls on ginjima to study his expression. hearing that he was certain the girl was going to be rejected interests you as it was a bit of a clue to your current mystery. though, it is a bit of a double-edged sword since someone’s rejection was potentially your advantage.
you wonder if you should say something and osamu beats you to it.
“yeah?” osamu responds, his tone urging ginjima to continue with an explanation.
he does, saying, “yup. me and atsumu were talking earlier today in class ‘bout girls or whatever with suzue! said he’s got other things in mind or i think? something going on? or?” ginjima pauses for a second, tilts his head and furrows his brows. his eyes dart from side to side as he thinks. “actually, don’t go quotin’ me on that. i’m not too sure. but! i know he’s not into any first year.”
“but there’s someone?” you ask. the question came out a bit too rushed and you feel heat rise to your cheeks. you feel a little flushed, beginning to sweat just a bit, and you try to cover it up.
however, your friends continue to prove it difficult to slip up at any given moment.
“oh?” suna chirps, his expression slightly lighting up, “that was a quick response, y/n.” his tone is snide, but in a playful manner.
osamu laughs at this and joins in. “i never knew you were that in’erested in my dumb brother.”
ginjima whistles as he sits up. he’s quick to nudge you gently with his elbow. this worsens your already embarrassed expression which amuses the three boys around you.
“ya should’ve said sooner!” ginjima beams, continuing on with the teasing, “ya know we’d do anything to wingman ya!”
“oh quit it!” you finally huff, shooting the boys the best glare you could manage as embarrassment flushes throughout your entire body, “it’s nothing like that! i’m just curious is all!”
“curious, huh?” suna giggles, “or… is it eager?”
“last time i checked, yer not a bad contender fer girl’s that are tsumu’s type,” osamu adds. he nods along to his words as if he was actually serious. for only a second does this suggest thoughts in your head; you’re quick to push them aside, however.
this gets a laugh only from the boys who are obviously having the time of their life. and sure, maybe you all knew it was just something to tease you about; but it was hard not to get riled up and embarrassed. they’re witty—was it a boy thing?—and the feeling of endlessness looms over you like a unnecessarily massive raincloud.
you sigh dramatically.
“like i said!” you grump, “it’s nothing like that. i just wanna know. plus, it’s not like we talk crushes in our group! i’m just—“ you pause for only a split second as you run words through your brain for an explanation “—expanding on the topics we can talk about!”
it’s a terrible excuse, but the boys silently agree to let it go and cut you some slack. after all, it is pretty interesting to dive into the topic of romance. it’s just a little icky now—not as icky as it was in middle school. it’s a lie to say that nobody in the group was ever curious about one another’s love life—or, in other words, that the boys aren’t curious about the girls.
so perhaps it isn’t bad to talk about it seriously.
suna’s the first to speak up and this gets your attention quickly. a part of you wonders why. is he eager to… perhaps… clear his name? is he maybe hiding something? “mmmm, there’s no one for me, really,” he says, and your lips purse slightly.
“liar,” ginjima quickly shot, “i saw you with a letter with a heart on it earlier this morning!”
your brows lift.
“oh, that was mine,” osamu responds, shrugging his shoulders.
your brows furrow.
“what?! ya got a confession, too?!” ginjima exclaims.
osamu laughs. “whatcha gonna do ‘bout it?”
and the boys quickly dive into a banter that extends throughout the rest of the time for lunch.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
AKAASHI KEIJI
akaashi has always been understanding with you. so after a couple few months of dating, you two were starting to get serious, you thought it’d be time to tell him of your past addictions if you wanted this relationship to have no secrets.
it was easy telling him about it, is what you thought. you were confident in what you were going to say, but the minute you two were sat at the dinner table with food he had prepared for the both of you, tears started pouring before you could even saying anything.
you didn’t want him to think anything different about you, and you didn’t want any special treatment for him as pity. you just wanted him to see you as you, not the old, crackhead addict you.
“what’s wrong my love? did i do something? i’m sorry..” he stood up from his chair, automatically reaching for you as he sees small tears in your eyes. “no, ‘m sorry keiji, i know our relationship is getting serious and i’m serious about you, cause i love you. and before any secrets spill out, i just want to say that i use to do drugs. i’ve been clean for a long time now, stopped doing them a couple months before i met you..” you looked away from his gaze, scared to look back.
it goes quiet and with every second in the quietness you finally meet his eyes, all you see is a smile on his face, your face fills with pure confusion. “i love you too, and it’s okay, it’s alright” is all he says, and even though his words were small, and he didn’t say much, his smile felt like he said everything that needed to be said, it was like looking at the words, ‘i love you so much and i’m here for you, you have no idea how strong and proud of you i am.’ it felt as if so much was stored in that smile.
OIKAWA TOORU
it was weird telling oikawa about your past, but you wanted to clear it up before it ended up getting worse. you didn’t want him to freak out or anything like that, and you for sure didn’t want him to get scared of you, or have him give you sympathy gifts out of pity.
it was midnight, the moon brightened the dark sky. you two were sat in a pair of swings at a local park, “tooru.”
“yeah?” he asks, yawning slightly at the end of his question.
“i was on drugs” you say, you were too tired to explain, you’d probably just tell him the whole story when you two are both more awake. silence takes up the midnight sky, he brings himself to say something but all he can let out is an, “oh”.
it goes quiet, for a minute you think he fell asleep, but he speaks up again, “okay” is all he says.
“did you hear me?” you asked.
“yeah i did, and i don’t care.” he says, looking at you, with a lopsided smile. “why”, you look at him with an eyebrow raised.
“we all have addictions- some we get over, some we don’t. for example im addicted to volleyball, annoying iwa- and i don’t know, perhaps im addicted to you. we all get over some addictions to, maybe in a couple years i’ll get over annoying iwa, or volleyball.” he says, shrugging. “and me?” you ask, voice cracking at the thought. “nah, you’re something i could never get tired of.”
you turn to look at him once again, but his eyes were focused on the shiny moon this time, “thank you tooru.”
“for?” he asks, he switches his gaze from the moon to you. “for understanding” you say, your focus on the moon, and his on you.

summary : sirens, creatures of unmatched beauty and cunning charm, they lure men in with their voices and grace, taking advantage of all the gullible fishermen and pirates. mermaids, the peacekeepers of the deep blue sea, naive and kind to a fault at times. a fated encounter between the two underwater dwellers leads to a difficult situation and a love that shouldn’t be.
warnings : less mean!suna more cocky dorky mermaid!suna, lovesick hopeless romantic reader :,) , naive reader, uncomfortable interaction with a man, oblivious reader?
genre : mermaid au, pirate au, angst, fluff, hurt/comfort, betrayal
a/n : SORRY FOR THE LATE POST, i’ll try and be more consistent in the future! also the descriptor “milky” isn’t for the skintone, it’s for the skin texture, i feel like if someone had developed legs after having a tail their whole lives, their thighs and upper legs would be like ‘milky’ soft 💀 hope they longer chaoter makes up for the later post!

“close your eyes.”
“and what will closing my eyes achieve?” you huffed as rintarou kept holding whatever was in his hands behind his back.
“it will achieve the purest reaction when i unveil what i’m hiding!” you feel your chest tighten in happiness at the endearing look on his face, eyes beaming brightly with a pretty grin.
“ugh fine,” you give him a teasing pout before squeezing your eyes shut, putting both hands out you make a grabbing motion as you impatiently wait for him to give you what he kept hidden.
he snorts and slaps your hands down, which in turn gains an annoyed whine from you, he however ignores this and clears his throat signaling for you to finally open your eyes and uncover what he’s been hiding from you.
when you slowly peel your eyes open you’re met with what you assume is a light blue dress, it drifts and sways in rintarous hands as he holds it in front of your face. the grip he has on the garment is tight and he shakes it side to side a bit before pulling it away from your face, showing his grin again with the dress now by his side.
“so? what do you think?”
“… it’s— nice?” dumbfounded, you grabbed the dress from him and held it up in front of you again.
“what am i meant to do with this? sirens and mermaids don’t really require any clothing down here,” pressing the dress tightly against your chest you look down at the piece of clothing with a small smile. “oh, is it another gift? thank you rin, i’ll be sure to add it—”
“no you loser, i'm taking you to the surface, mermaids and sirens may be okay without clothes but humans aren’t. we need to blend in!”
a beat of silence passes, rin stares at you expectantly while you stare back at him in disbelief. you feel your lower lip tremble and your hands gripping the dress begin to shake as your heartbeat becomes erratic, your head swims with thoughts and fantasies about the world above the sea, where humans lived freely, where nature blossomed and allowed creations like trees and hundreds of different flowers to bloom in the seasons. there were so many things you were dreaming of seeing, things you wanted to smell, foods you wanted to taste, music not only created by voice but by instruments. living vicariously through rin wasn’t enough anymore, you finally had the opportunity to experience everything you’ve ever wanted. rintarou was a gift and a blessing to you.
“yn? do you— not want to go?” his voice came out quiet, questioning, a small thrown adorning his charming face. your heart dropped at his sadness, you rush to comfort him.
“no it’s not that! i’d love to go, especially with you! it’s just, i never believed i’d actually get the chance…” you gave him a tight lipped smile, hands gripping his tightly, eyes examining every movement or twitch on his face.
“does that mean you’ll wear the dress?” his voice was still small but the frown was now replaced by a small teasing smile.
“anything for you, rin.”
you both rendezvoused at your little cave, sharing a nod and a mutual smile before pushing yourselves towards the water's surface. the closer you got to the light, the more the excitement burnt in your chest, like fireworks right before they exploded. you grip onto rintarou’s hand and break the barrier, your eyes pushing through the blanket of water first, focused on the pink hues in the sky. clouds dotting the canvas.
you stared in awe and amazement at the sky as it shifted colours, the pinks and peaches made way for a light purple, hints of blue mixed into it all. you couldn’t help but gape at the beauty of the world above the bottom of the deep and dark sea.
rintarou watched you watch the sky, eyes soft and warm at the sight in front of him. never had he seen someone so dangerous look so innocent and excited, he felt the need to keep you close, watch over and protect you from the bad things he never explained about humans. he should have warned you about their wicked nature, but he couldn’t bring himself to destroy your bright little fantasy. he’d keep you safe.
“we should get to shore before it’s too bright, the market should have enough shade until your eyes can adjust to the brightness.”
“but it’s not that bright! i want to see the palm trees and the flowers rin!”
he laughed, clasping your hand and pulling you towards a secluded rocky area. “and you will, but we need to make sure you can adjust to the sunlight before we do anything too crazy.”
humming along to what he says you grip his hand tightly back, your eyes scanning the horizon to catch a glimpse of the human world. when you two made it close enough to the rocks, rintarou hauled himself out, letting his iridescent tail form into two human-like legs. the only sign of his unusual heritage being the remnants of his pretty pearly scales that fade back into the skin of his calves. you realise then that he has the whole form of a human, you snap your gaze away from his care body, your whole body burning up from the embarrassment of ogling him.
rin smirked down at your reaction before pulling on the trousers he left out to dry, only reaching down to grab your arm once he had put on his loose fitting white shirt. when both your arms were gripped into his, he pulled you out of the water, helping you rest your back against the rock without cutting the flesh of your tail on the sharp edges. he grabbed one of the cloths he set aside with his clothes the day before, dabbing it onto your tail to soak up the moistness and progress the drying.
“what does that do?”
“it’ll help you form your legs! that is… if sirens can form legs— though i assume they can if mermaids can?”
“wait, does that mean there’s a chance i won’t get legs like yours?”
“i mean it’s a possibility, i’ve never really looked into sirens before.”
your heart sinks, you look down dimly at your tail, the sun began rising higher and higher causing the light to bounce off of your tail and plaster the pretty colours on the rocks around you. yet you couldn’t find it in yourself to gape. “so… this is it? this is the most i can experience?” your watery gaze lifts up to rintarou’s figure standing above you, giving him a wobbly smile as a teardrop finally escaped.
you move to push yourself back in the water, only stopping a millimeter before your tail could touch the waters reflective surface. it was only the strong grip of rin’s hand on your arm and the line of separation that began forming at the fin of your tail that stopped you from giving yourself the final push into the water. you watched in shock as two feet began to form, your tail changing more and more into that of a bi-pedal human. you smoothed your hands over the milky soft texture of your new legs, you pressed your hands against the large rock below you using all your strength to stand.
what you didn’t account for was the fact that you’ve never had legs before. so when you finally pushed yourself up, your legs gave out immediately, causing your body to fall forward into the ever so cautious arms of rintarou. he gripped your shoulder with one arm as the other secured itself around your waist, his hold being the only thing keeping you up. you once again felt the embarrassment from earlier as you realised now you were the bare and vulnerable one in front of him.
with a gasp you push him off of you, grabbing the dress from his hands before your weak yet heavy legs dragged you down once again. dropping your body against the boulder below you, you yelp in pain at the scratches that litter your legs, a sharp pain shooting it’s way up from your palm burning even stronger at the salt water that seeps into the gash along your hand. you quickly throw the dress on, assuming your head goes through the larger hole before throwing your two arms through the other two holes left.
“i’m sorry! i was just surprised. are you okay?” on your hands and knees you drag yourself towards rin who sits up from his position on the rock a little further away from you. he groans as he wipes his hands on his trousers.
“it’s okay, im fine.” he pushes himself up, pulling you up once he gains his footing again. “are you okay? if we get to the shore there’s a lady i know who’ll help you patch that up.”
you gulp nervously, looking down at your stained palm. feeling a little form in your stomach. “a lady?” you don’t mean for it to sound so desperate and displeased, and obviously a sly man like rintarou would speak to other women. you shouldn’t have made yourself feel so special.
he bites back a laugh and grabs your hand before pulling you in closer. his arms moving to pull you onto his back. you fight back for a second before giving up, noticing the smile placed permanently on his annoying handsome face. “no need to be jealous, pearl. elderly women aren’t my type.” you tense at his teasing.
“i wasn’t jealous.”
he only hums in response, the smile present in his tone.
“so this lady, does she know you’re a mermaid?”
“she’s never asked but i’m certain she has an idea. i pay her in my tails scales. they’re very useful for mortal beings, the dried scales of a mermaid have healing properties so they usually use them for medicine.”
you nod along to what he says, arms tightly circled around rin’s neck as he continues explaining the resources you underwater dwellers could supply to humans.
“and what about siren scales?”
rin’s pace slows for a moment, he clears his throat, gripping the bottom of your thighs a little tighter. “uhm, well, you know i don’t actually know… i’ve never asked!” he ends his sentence with a strained chuckle, confusing you.
“well we have similar tails don’t we? wouldn’t that mean they’d have similar-”
“look, i’ve never asked so i can’t answer that question okay?” he lightly snapped at you, causing you to close your mouth. you lowered your face into the crook of
his neck, nodding silently.
he sighed and gave a quiet apology. the two of you continued walking towards the shack which grows larger and larger the more you walk. your head perks up again when you guys finally make it to the door of the shack. a hand painted sign with writing you can’t read and a splatter of a hand print plastered onto it.
you tap rin’s shoulder lightly, gaining his attention, making him turn his head to face you. “rin, what does that say?” you mumble into his shoulder, one finger outstretched to point to the sign.
“it says ‘beware of the witch.’ it’s a warning to keep away other humans.”
“why would she want to keep away other humans?”
“maybe she just doesn’t like humans. y’know, like how mermaids don’t like sirens.”
“but, you like me?” you tilt your head at him, eying him curiously.
he sputters, moving his hands from under your thighs to grip under your knees instead. playing everything off with a cough he nods. “yeah well, we’re different.”
“good different?”
“great different.”
you’re happy with that response, once again lowering your face to his neck, letting your chin rest on his shoulder with your head resting against his own. you hum happily.
rin pushes the door open, carefully placing you down onto the floating bed nailed into the corner of two walls. you feel the fabric swing at the weight of your body, you smile down at it, using your arms to sway yourself a bit more. “rin, what’s this?”
“it’s a hammock, it’s like a bed without any support other than the nails or rope used to keep it up.”
you mumbled out a small ‘wow’ and continue swaying as rintarou moved towards the back of the shop. calling out for a ‘helen’ you ignore him as you look around the shop, jars filled with dehydrated scales and scales in jars filled with what you assume is sea water. there are different plants found from the depths of the sea only creatures like you or rin could reach, further confirming your suspicion that this lady, helen, knew suna was more than just a pretty boy with a cocky smile.
“oh? is that my favourite scavenger?” a little old lady, adorned in jewels you’d recognised from your cave and scales the same colour as your partner in crimes, walks out of a door in the back of the shop. she wore a long dress and what rin would call, an apron. she gave him a sweet smile before locking onto your curious gaze.
“and you must be yn? rin’s pretty little girlfriend.” she gave the same sweet smile to you that she had given him. you bit back a smile at her words, “pretty?” you mumbled.
“aha, helen— she’s not my girlfriend! just… a girl that i happen to be friends with?” he sounds unsure, arms crossed across his chest with his shoulders tensed up. “anyways that’s not why we’re here. yn slipped on our… latest trip, and she got a pretty ugly cut on her palm, you think you could fix it up?”
you frowned at his wording, looking down at your blood stained palm. ‘ugly?’ helen walked around the display table in front of her door, hands on her hip as she made a ‘tsk’ noise using her mouth. your own mouth moving to mimick the sound.
“it does look bad, but it’s nothing a little bit of ointment can’t fix.” she pulls out a tin from her aprons pocket, twisting the lid and applying the cool jelly over your palm and the small scratches that littered your legs. it felt soothing at first, and like a crabs pinchers gripping onto your skin, the pain burst through your skin immediately. you gasped trying to rub off the ointment from your body but were held down by suna.
“stop, rin, it hurts— get it off!” you struggle against his hands, mumbling small pleas as the burning pain starts to settle.
“sorry, pearl. it’s usually like that the first time. but it’s an instant fix, see?” you push his hands off of you, looking down at your skin where the cuts once lay. it was again as bare as when you formed your legs.
“it’s fine… thank you.” you mumbled, letting suna pull you up like a rag doll. he exchanged a few more words with helen, before turning towards the door, throwing a ‘thank you’ over his shoulder at her. only stopping when he reaches the nob.
“be careful suna, siren’s are incredibly valuable to the men of the seas.”
he gulps at the warning, knowing she had figured you out as quickly as she figured him out. shrugging it off he pulls the door open and walks out with you piggybacking him again. his hands back under your thighs again.
“what does she mean? why are siren’s incredibly valuable?“
rintarou ignores you, continuing his strenuous walk towards the market he promised to take you to.
you eventually got bored of his silence, and your lack of ability to walk. so you did what you thought was best, pushing yourself off of his back, your body weight pulling him the opposite direction causes him to lose his balance, hands dropping your thighs causing you to fall back and land on the sandy floor with a thud.
he looks back at you in surprise, scrambling to pull you back up. you slap his hands away with a groan, pushing yourself to be on all fours, slowly moving yourself up to put more weight on one leg. “rin, please teach me how to walk. you’re getting tired of carrying me and i’m getting tired of being carried!”
he sighs, pondering for a second before ultimately nodding. he gently grips your hands, slowly pulling you up, moving his grip to your forearms as you try and find balance on your feet. “can you feel your legs?”
you nod, bending your knees and twisting your feet. he nods along with you, “okay, can you lift your right leg for me?” you carefully lift your leg up, before immediately dropping it back down at the feeling of yourself dipping to the left.
“can you do the same with your left?” you lift your left leg up before placing it back down quickly. suna pats your arms and pulls you forward harshly, causing you to stumble. he lets go of your arms mid stumble and watches you move your legs to find balance. you let out a shocked gasp at his betrayal and continue you your stumble for a second longer before hitting the tree in front of you.
rin chokes back his own gasp, not expecting you to bash into the giant tree that has been behind him. he runs to grab you, pulling you up and biting back a laugh at your annoyed huff.
“traitor.”
“just teaching you how to fly, baby bird.”
“i wanna go back home.” you pout, looking out at the ocean. a longing feeling settling within you. you missed your sisters.
“already!? but we haven’t even gotten to the market yet, it’s just this way i promise!” he grips your hand and begins running, dragging you along behind him causing you to stumble and flop like a fish out of water, trying to catch up with the tall, insufferable man.
“rin! please, slow down— i don’t know how to use my legs yet!”
the sun was high up in the sky by the time the two of you made it to the market, you finally understood why rin wanted you to stay in the shade so badly. the bright light reflected off of the shining sand, burning your eyes that hadn’t seen anything but the dark waters of the sea you lived in your whole life.
rin, being prepared for this, pulled out what he calls a ‘jacket’ from his satchel, placing the clothing on your head to block out the suns aggressive light from your eyes. giving you some relief from the pain that had been causing your eyes to burn up and dry out.
“i’ll make sure this trip is worth it, yn. we’ll get out of here soon. i should’ve been more careful of your circumstances.”
“rin, it’s fine. plus, didn’t you have to go through this too? during your first time on land?”
he pauses for a second, before he carefully shakes his head. “no, mine was pretty easy to get through. my eyes stung a bit and i definitely had weak legs, but i guess it affects you differently?”
“weird.”
the two of you make it to the edge of the market, you hear the loud chattering of people and in your excitement you throw the jacket off of your head. you gape at the many stalls lining the town, you see buildings stacked on one another, and places with tables outside, humans drinking from little cups and children running around. the smells of the market were driving your senses wild, something sweet from the flowers and the fruits and desserts around you, something that smells thick and smokey, making your mouth water and your stomach grumble. you glanced around, the colours were beautiful, stalls with little colourful roofs, and the plants you’d only dreamed of seeing.
“so?” rin grips your hand softly, a knowing smirk growing on his lips the more he watches you gaze around in astonishment. “does it exceed your expectations? fulfil your fantasy?”
you stay silent, listening to the people speak, the words blending together, the accents far too strong for you to comprehend with everything that’s going on around you. you feel the breeze from the nearby ocean on your arms and the grip of suna’s hand ground you. you turn to him with a bright smile.
“it’s better than anything i’ve dreamed of.” he returns your smile, nudging you forward to move into the crowd. the two of you begin walking down the streets, taking a look at everything around you, your wide eyed gaze locked onto all the aromatic foods and the brightest jewels you could find.
when you’d see something that you’d really want, suna would pull out a small bag of coins from his satchel and drop a gold piece onto the table. by the time you’d reached the final food stall, you’d already eaten at least five different fruits, a strawberry cake and, though you felt guilty, you’d eaten a fish flake too. as you walked rin would explain the different things you’d seen, the cakes and fruits, why the fish looked the way it did, and when you finally got to the trinkets you couldn’t hold back your excitement.
letting go of rin’s hand you ran, or stumbled, forward. knocking into a table with sparkling jewels and gold rings, unfortunately in your current accident prone state you also managed to knock into a nearby man who had also been gazing at the stall. he chuckles at your sudden intrusion into his space, gripping your arms to balance you out again. “well hello, pretty.” he looks you up and down, hands sliding from your arms to your own hands. you gaze up at him with wide eyes, heart beating rapidly and your breath feeling short. you gulped nervously and moved back, turning to look back at rin who eyed the man with a slight glare.
“ah, i see you’re spoken for. my apologies, miss.” he lets go of your hand, stepping back, eyeing you up once more before he moves to turn around. he quickly looks back at you, eyes focussing in on
the end of your long pale dress, locked in on the skin of your ankles. the shimmer of the scales that hadn’t blended into your skin.
his breath hitched. he turned away with the clearing of his throat and the tip of his hat towards rin.
you looked back at suna with a confused tilt of your head. he shook his own and nodded towards the stall. you let out a happy hum, eyeing the many valuable items curiously. “rin, look! isn’t this clip pretty?” you held up the little silver clip, it had the design of one of the nearby flowers, with a pretty pink jewel in the middle of it. you held it closer to suna’s face, eyes sparkling with joy. “can we get it?” you pleaded with him excitedly.
he sighed with a small smile and pulled out his coins again, eyes staring down at the half empty bag. “i need to teach you about money and how not to spend it…” he laughed nervously. placing a few coins down, he hurriedly gripped your hand and pulled you away from the stall, your eyes still fixated on the many other things on display.
“here, let me put that on for you.” suna broke your interest away from the stall when his voice cut through the silence between the two of you. you looked up at him inquisitively before holding out the clip. the two of you stopped walking, letting him take the opportunity to steady you, before sliding the clip near your ear, successfully pushing and holding the hair on your right side out of your face.
“how does it look?”
“it looks great, it’s pretty.”
“pretty?” suna nods to reaffirm what he said, but you just hummed. “am i pretty?” he pushes the rest of your hair off your shoulder, giving it a light squeeze.
“you’re always pretty.”
you nod, a happy little smile on your face. you link your fingers together, squeezing his hand. “rinrin?”
“rinrin?” he questions the new nickname.
“rintarou, what does ‘pretty’ mean? in the humans term.”
“i don’t think it has much of a difference from the way we use it, to be quite honest. it’s just used when you see something… pretty?”
you snort at his explanation, rolling your eyes as you kick at the sand. “we’ve been using that word all day.”
“we have, haven’t we?”
“hey, rin?”
he hums.
“thank you, for today and, for everything… oh and the clip! i hope you know i think you’re quite pretty too.”
“well of course, i am a mermaid, if i wasn’t pretty what worth would i have down in the bottom of the ocean?”
you push him lightly and grumble as the two fo you continue walking closer to the waters. the setting sun reflecting off of it, creating a dazzling jewel like sparkle on your home.
“today was fun, remember when i said i wanted to go home?” you paused, your hands now behind your back. “i take it back. as much as i’d miss my sisters, i’d give anything to be able to experience life above the water for as long as possible.”
“i get that, that’s why i’m up here so often. it’s— it’s a different experience… i’d probably do anything to live like the people up here too.”
you both make it back to the rocks, he looks you up and down once before pulling his shirt off, exposing his toned chest, which would normally be fine but after learning about the modesty of humans, you can’t help but feel bashful at his semi nudeness. you turned away, pulling off your shoes and dress before hurriedly throwing yourself into the water, begging in your mind that he hadn’t seen your bare body like before.
your head peeks out from the water, your tail already back to its original state, you eye rin who hides your belongings in a small nook between the rocks, before he too joins you in the water. “y’know, it’s pretty obvious when you’re checking me out.”
you sputter at his teasing accusation, slapping his shoulder as you turn away in embarrassment at the thought of being caught. “i wasn’t checking you out, i was curious as to what you were doing.”
“right. because the muscles on my back are so interesting? you were looking at just the muscles on my back…right?”
“goodbye, rin. i’ll see you tomorrow.” you gave him a kiss on the cheek and dived back under the water. not letting your newest regrettable moment eat away at you.
you left rin at the surface, diving deeper and deeper down to where you’d find your sisters. blissfully unaware of any conversation, or confrontation suna may get into.
you had your own responsibilities to attend to now.
“where were you!?”
“i- well, i was…”
“you had us worried sick! and not just that, you weren’t there for today’s hunt, we were one siren down and that cost us our feast. you knew today was another hunt.”
“i’m sorry…”
“sorry is not going to cut it this time, yn. your recklessness couldve endangered us all. you should not act so selfishly.”
you silently nodded, moving to your own sleeping area, feeling the eyes of all your sisters on your back as you slept facing away from them. you shut your eyes tightly, trying to bring back the happy mood you had from your day with rin before your sister’s lecture ruined it.
yet you couldn’t catch a break.
“who were you with?”

For @sillykawa! Thanks again for joining my 100 follower event!
ft.: timeskip kita x reader
trope: unrequited love
lyrics: If only you knew/ What I would do for you/ I'd jump up and hold you/ So tightly/ But I will never be able to do these things/ So I'm just left imagining from "if i could ride a bike" by chevy & park bird
word count: ~850 words
a/n: more angst once again. but i'm starting to really enjoy writing angst. what does that say about me?
Tumblr media
“I’m so sorry for having to cancel our plans to go to the farmer’s market this weekend,” Kita hears you dramatically sigh through the phone. He can practically picture your pouty face, which he has always found endearing.
“Don’t worry about it. We can go another time and I promise to make you a delicious meal with what we buy afterwards,” your silver-haired friend assures you as he looks out his kitchen window at the pinkish sky and the setting sun.
“You’re too nice to me, Shin. I swear I will make it up to you!” you promise eagerly, and Kita softly chuckles.
“Seriously, you don’t have to make it up to me, Y/N,” he gently states. He pauses then adds, “So, where is your boyfriend taking you to celebrate your job promotion?”
“You know the restaurant we went to with Aran and Omimi a few months ago, but I didn’t enjoy the food that much? That one.”
Your response causes Kita’s eyebrows to furrow in confusion and, without thinking, he replies, “Why would he take you to a restaurant you didn’t like?”
His puzzled reaction makes you laugh, and you explain, “He went there recently with some of his friends, and he liked the food! Apparently, they revamped the menu and got a new chef! I’m actually looking forward to trying it out on Saturday.”
“Oh, that should be fun,” Kita remarks, attempting to come off as enthusiastic.
It isn’t that he doesn’t like your boyfriend. You have been dating him for just over three years, so Kita has met him countless times and he's definitely a genuinely good guy. Honestly, Kita is glad that you are in a loving relationship, but it does hurt to see you with someone else when he’s been enamoured with you since high school.
When you were both first-years at Inarizaki, you joined the volleyball club as the team manager and, instantly, the wing spiker was drawn to you. Amid a sea of rowdy teenage boys, all impatient to show off their athletic prowess, you were a calming presence that he appreciated. This led to you and Kita conversing frequently and a strong friendship was thus produced.
He cannot remember when he started falling in love with you. The realization that he likes you romantically simply hit him: Suna had made some off-handed comment about you and the captain looking like a couple and you two scolded him. Later that day, Suna’s words ate away at him, until he came to acknowledge that his feelings for you weren’t merely platonic.
He never revealed any of this to you because he didn’t want to ruin your friendship. You repeatedly expressed how fortunate you were to have such a close, reliable friend like him. Not wanting to upset your dynamic, Kita decided to conceal his love, which wasn’t a difficult task, since he had perfected the art of constantly maintaining a composed facade and demeanor.
Over the years, some of his former teammates did catch onto his feelings towards you and they did their best to encourage him to confess, but to no avail. Kita doesn’t regret choosing to remain silent about his true feelings, though, because whenever you talk about your boyfriend, your eyes light up and a huge smile graces your lips. You tell him that you are certain he is the love of your life, your soulmate, the person you see yourself growing old with.
He is content that you found someone who makes you feel like you are the most beautiful and wonderful person in the world.
Still…Kita knows he could make you feel like the center of his universe.
If he was your boyfriend, he would cook you an amazing meal to celebrate your job promotion. Or if you preferred to go out, he would take you to your favorite restaurant.
If he was your boyfriend, he would make you a soothing cup of tea at the end of each day, while listening to you vent about work.
If he was your boyfriend, he would be your shoulder to cry on.
If he was your boyfriend, he would surprise you with breakfast in bed on the weekends.
If he was your boyfriend, he would send random “I love you” texts throughout the day in order to remind you how cherished you are.
He would. He really would.
But he can’t because you love your boyfriend. Not him.
“We’re about to go see a movie, so I have to head out,” you say, your voice bringing Kita back to reality. “I’ll talk to you later, alright?”
“Alright,” Kita answers, leaning against his kitchen counter. “Take care.”
And with that, the call ends, but the rice farmer continues to stare out the window longingly. It now dawns on him that you remind him of the sunset: something warm and cheerful that he admires from afar yet can never hold tightly.
It’s fine, though, because you are happy and that’s all that matters.

I started writing this after having seen the second trailer of Duy Beni episode 8. I was glad to finally see happy and smiley Ekkan, spending time together. It does feel rushed, especially with everything going on around them and Kanat's involvement in the accident hanging over their heads. I'm 99,9% sure the writers will use it to break them up. But I decided to keep my expectations low and I might as well enjoy some Ekkan fluff while it lasts.
The scene of them cooking inspired this little one-shot that I really want to fit into the canon as a missing scene.
I don't own the show or any of the characters. They belong to the writers, production company and the channel. This is only fanfiction.
____________________________________________
The Way You Look At Her
Ekim knows that she probably looks ridiculous, with a dopey lovesick smile risking to split her face in two. She chastises herself in her head and tries to school her features. Then she sneaks a glance up at Kanat. He's already looking down at her with the same lovesick smile Ekim had a few moments ago. And the look in his dark orbs... god, that's the definition of heart eyes.
"So... What's the plan? What are we going to do while we're being selfish?" Ekim asks tentatively.
"Have you eaten? Because I haven't and, to be honest, I'm getting hungry".
"I might've skipped breakfast today too", Ekim says with a little smile.
"Then we could prepare breakfast together. What do you think?"
"I'd love that".
They walk the rest of the way to Kanat's house in silence, their hands clasped together tightly, fingers entwined. Ekim feels the weight of Kanat's hand in hers and it is so natural, so comforting and warm, so real and so sure.
When they get to the house, Kanat lets go of Ekim's hand only long enough to open the front door. Once inside, he quickly renews his grasp. Hand in hand, Ekim and Kanat move in the direction of what must be the kitchen and then stop abruptly in the doorway when they see Kanat's mother, who's placing something carefully into plastic food containers.
"Mom? What are you doing here? I thought you left to go to the hospital", Kanat says carefully.
Kanat's mother opens her mouth to answer and turns her attention from the task at hand to her son. She snaps her mouth shut and seems to freeze for a moment, when she sees Ekim, who suddenly feels uncomfortable and out of place. She makes an attempt at pulling her hand from Kanat's but he doesn't let her, keeping his big hand wrapped tightly around hers.
"Oh, you have a guest. Nice to see you again, dear. Ekim, right?" Kanat's mother asks, recovering quickly.
"Yes. Good to see you too, Suna Hanım. Sorry for coming unannounced again".
"You're welcome anytime", Suna Hanım says with a smile. She then adds, looking at Kanat:
"I'm just picking something up for your father. But I'm already done and will be out of your way in a moment".
"Do you need some help with that, mom?" Kanat asks, already taking a step forward.
"No, dear, I've got it".
Ekim sees the opportunity and seizes it immediately.
"You know, I could really use the bathroom", she tells Kanat quietly.
"Sure, it's the first door on the right, down that hallway", Kanat says, nodding in the direction.
He finally lets go of Ekim's hand, allowing her to make a quick exit. Once in the bathroom, Ekim splashes her face with some cold water and washes her hands. She glances at herself in the mirror, noticing that she looks a little flushed. Taking a deep steadying breath, Ekim dries her hands and face and makes herself leave the bathroom, understanding well enough that she cannot hide there all day.
As she's moving to the kitchen, Ekim hears hushed voices of Kanat and his mother. She's close enough to hear Kanat's next words that make her stop short.
"You didn't ask me about Melisa".
"I didn't have to. I know you wouldn't be here with Ekim if you were still involved with Melisa romantically. And I know it hadn't been really working out for you way before you met Ekim".
There's a beat of silence which Kanat's mother breaks with:
"I never saw you look at Melisa the way you look at Ekim. You never looked at anyone the way you look at her".
"Mom, I... I love her", Kanat says and Ekim's heart leaps into her throat.
"Yeah, you do", for some reason Suna Hanım sounds almost... sad.
"And I'm so happy for you, that's all I ever wanted for you. But..."
"I know", Kanat interrupts and there's heaviness in his tone that makes Ekim anxious.
"No need to worry about anything today though. Just be with her. While you can", Suna Hanım says.
Then there's movement in the kitchen that signals that it's time for Ekim to make herself known. She walks quickly the remaining few steps and enters the room in time to see Kanat's mother with a bag of containers, ready to go. Suna Hanım gives Ekim a warm smile:
"Ok, it's time for me to go. You, guys, have fun".
Ekim nods with a smile and then hurriedly asks:
"Are you sure you don't need help? Maybe Kanat should go with you to the hospital? We can raincheck".
"No-no. There's nothing I need help with. And Kanat's still recovering. Staying home with you to keep him company is all he needs right now".
Ekim feels her cheeks heat up slightly.
Suna Hanım says something to Kanat that Ekim doesn't catch and then she's gone, leaving Ekim and Kanat alone. Ekim turns to face Kanat, whose eyes are already on her. There's definitely something about the way he's looking at her. And it makes the feeling in Ekim's chest stir. The feeling that with every new day seems more and more like love.

Stratagem; Lunch
In which the second years go out for lunch and Emi proves she can take care of herself
Warnings: Swearing, slightly sexual comment/ almost groping, broken bones
Notes: Emi’s story won’t be written in any order
Tumblr media
Sunday mornings meant no volleyball.
Sunday mornings meant sleep ins.
Sunday mornings meant not having to deal with her classmates rocking up at ten am demanding she gets dressed to go out.
“It’s ten in the morning on a Sunday…. Why are any of you awake?“
“Why were you still asleep?” Kosaku snickered.
“Because it’s a Sunday. It’s break day, it’s leave me alone day. I don’t have practice, I don’t have to manage yours asses… I get to sleep.”
“Well not this Sunday you don’t!” The group gleamed at the grumpy girl.
“We’ve decided to hang out for a bit then go to lunch and since you are our friend we obviously had to invite you.” Atsumu sounded so, so proud of himself. “C’mon we have like a week before school starts back up and we are officially second years.”
“Fine. Wait here while I go get dressed.” She grumbled as she shoved the boys from her room and slammed her door shut.
The boys had found it amusing startling the poor girl awake- with Suna adding the frazzled dark haired girl to his blackmail folder of photos on his phone- as they slammed open her bedroom door with her mothers permission. She was not a happy camper about being awoken like that.
They eventually decided to take a trip to a nice casual restaurant for lunch and after they would go on a walk around a nearby park- granted most of them just couldn’t be bothered to walk further into town so the park was it.
Not that they minded it and Emi seemed content… until one pm hit.
~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~
It had been getting cooler as the afternoon came in and the boys were even muttering about how they should have brought a spare jacket before one by one they noticed Emi had been wearing shorts the whole time.
“How are ye’ not cold?” Ginjima questioned as they took a seat at a picnic bench.
“I don’t get cold.” Was her answer.
“What do you mean?” Osamu questioned as he moved to sit on her right, Suna her left.
Emi shrugs. “I just don’t. Never really have, if anything I overheat easily.”
“That’s so weird- not that you are weird Em it’s just I haven’t heard of that before.” Atsumu says quickly.
“Mum’s like that too, Dad’s German so he’s pretty good with the cold as well.”
“Wait, your dad isn’t Japanese?” Kosaku asks. “Do you speak German then?”
“Nope.” She responds. “And yes I do speak German, I also speak English- both fluently.”
“This is the most we’ve learnt about you in a year.” Atsumu pouts.
“Dad’s an asshole I try not to talk about him so don’t worry about it.” She adds sort of attempting to make the blonde feel better.
“What’d he do to be an asshole?” Osamu asks. Emi blinks at him, she honestly hadn’t expected to be asked about it.
“Uh… I don’t…”
“You don’t have to tell us.” Suna adds quietly, staring at his phone as he does.
“I’d rather tell people than let the old ladies in town stories get to the school I guess.” She sighed. “He’s not a nice man to put it bluntly, never laid a hand on me or Ma don’t get me wrong but he was aggressive, drank lots and even brought women over to the house whenever Ma or I weren’t home… he’s off somewhere in Tokyo with his new younger wife now so we don’t really give a shit about him.” She shrugs.
“Shit, sorry-” the boys start.
“Don’t. I don’t like people pitying me for something he did. He’s an asshole plain and simple but at least he pays child support I am his only child after-all.” She says. “Plus Ma beat him up real good when she found out so he’s never gonna walk right again.”
Emi’s smile was a little unnerving but the boys were happy she shared that little bit about herself even if it wasn’t all that nice.
“Hey little lady.” A voice came from behind, an older man with a slur was stumbling towards them.
“Mr Kuzuri.” Emi said curtly.
“Oh it’s you little Akiyama.” He man chortled. “Well now haven’t you gotten prettier?”
“I look the same Mr Kuzuri.” She responded.
“No need to get snippy just complimenting your pretty young self.”
“There is no need to.” She said before turning back to the boy. “If you don’t mind I’m busy.”
“Now, now you can have time for little old me.” He hand landed on her shoulder and she froze.
It was Suna’s voice who cut the tension.
“Sir please remove your hand from Emi’s shoulder.”
“Why should I boy?”
“You’re making her uncomfortable.” Ginjima answered. She shot the boys a glare, one signifying that she could take care of it herself, they didn’t want to back down though.
Mr Kuzuri leant forward, placing his weight against her back and pressing her into the table, she continued to glare at the boys however, warning them to say nothing.
Then the old bastards hand travelled down to her chest.
Next thing Mr Kuzuri and the boys knew the old man was stumbling back with a broken nose. Emi stood and turned.
“What the fuck made you think that was fine to do Genji Kuzuri?” She asked angrily, stepping out of the bench towards the old man. Atsumu tried to reach across the table for her but she was already out of arms reach.
“Oh come now dear it’s all fun and games.” He growled, she just glared.
“Do that again and I’ll do more than break your nose:”
“And how would you do that? You’re an Akiyama, don’t even use your fathers name… I bet you don’t even know how-” She sent a kick to his shin making him hiss.
“Now fuck off.” She growled back and went to turn towards the boys who stood frozen in place.
Kuzuri sent a fist her way.
“Emi-” Kosaku yelped as she dodged it.
Emi spun back towards him and it looks could kill he’d be six feet under as she sent a punch back- she didn’t miss.
A sickening crunch followed her hit as she further broke his nose, then she grabbed his punching arm and twisted.
From then on the boys decided that she was not to be made angry… they’d never heard a more terrifying sound than a wrist snapping.
Amongst the anger Emi felt, and guilt for ruining the afternoon the boys had haphazardly put together she noticed the way they looked at her, with awe and fear… but Suna… Suna looked at her completely different and it took her a moment to see the glint in his eyes.
Oh. He wasn’t afraid because he didn’t need to be…
He was like her.

Tumblr media
“You’re staring at her again, Bo” konoha snaps bokuto out of the trance he’s in.
“I can’t help it! She’s so pretty” Bokuto responds in a lovesick tone as he turns back around to look at you with hearts practically forming in his pupils.
“It’s hopeless, he’s never going to man up enough to ask her out properly.” Komi sighs causing the rest of the team to nod in defeat.
“He’s going to have to eventually, he’s liked her since their first year and now they’re entering the end of their last year in high school.” Akaashi states as he watches his best friend fall more in love with you as you laugh with Yukie and Kaori.
Bokuto Koutaro has had the fattest crush on you since first year of high school. You were sat next to him so naturally he really tried to get to know you but you never really opened up to him. You didn’t have many friends (you still don’t), you only had two friends, luckily for Bokuto, those friends were Fukurodani’s very own manageers, Yukie and Kaori. There were countless times where Bokuto would beg the two girls to convince you to come watch during practice so he could show off and seem cool to you. Sometimes you would come to practice just so you could spend more time with your two best friends, and while you were impressed by Bokuto, all you could manage to give him was a small smile and a single thumbs up. Even though it wasn’t much, it still made Bokuto melt on the spot. Everything about you was wonderful to him, the epitome of beauty, sweetness, and kindness, all he was missing was your affection and love.
After a few more minutes, the coach calls for the break the team was on to be over and everyone goes back to their places while you remain on the bleachers. As you wave to your friends, you see Bokuto looking at you with a soft smile, much different from his usual big, large, and bright grin that he wears everywhere. You don’t know what it is about it, but this makes you blush. Maybe you sense that it’s different, maybe it’s wishful thinking that that smile is only meant for you, after all you did have a crush on him. You’ve had a crush on him as long as he’s had a crush on you but you could never say anything to him for the fear you might get rejected. After all, he was the most extroverted person in school - maybe the world - and you were just…there…exisitng with only two close friends. You could never be Bokuto’s type. You’ve been saying this for three years to yourself all while you don’t know the truth about how he feels.
Practice is finally over after about an hour and you go down to the main floor to get ready to leave with Yukie and Kaori while the boys go to the lockeroom to change. The three of you talk for a bit before the coach calls them to help with cleaning the gym leaving you alone again. You take this time to walk around the gym as you never really looked around before. You see all these posters and banners with the team’s motto “one ball, heart, and soul”. you smile at the saying as you think about how this is seen in all of the players. All of the boys on the volleyball team shows their love and passion for the game but of course, one player stood out from all the rest, Bokuto. You find yourself thinking about Bokuto and all the ways he shows his love for the sport. Every move he makes, every serve he does, every cheer he shouts, and every grin he has plastered on his face when he scores. You loved that grin.
You’re deep in thought when you hear the gym door open and hear voices the belong to the boys on the volleyball team.  Scared of being seen, you hide behind the volleyball cart. It’s not like you were doing anything wrong, you just really hated social situations and you don’t know where Yukie and Kaori disappeared off to even though they were just in the gym moments ago. You feel a bit of nervousness start to kick in as you hear their voices get closer and that’s when you hear your name causing you to snap out of your nerves and to listen in.
“Did you see the way [name] smiled when I did that serve today?” The voice belonging to Bokuto asked excitedly followed by a chorus of groans by the other team members.
“Yes Bokuto,” Akaashi sighs as he waves goodbye to the rest of the team who are speedwalking out of the gym to avoid Bokuto’s gushing “and before you ask, yes I saw how she looked at you when you nearly knocked Washio’s hand off with your spike.”
“She’s the best isn’t she?” Bokuto asks as he sits down on a bench in the gym. “I just wish I could tell her that but I’m scared she’ll run away.”  He says calmly to Akaashi who raises a brow.
“Why would she run away?” Akaashi questions Bokuto’s reasoning to why he can’t tell you how he feels.
“Well you know how quiet and shy she is,” Bokuto starts off “and you know how loud I am. What if [name] doesn’t like that? I don’t want her to hate me just because we have clashing personalities.” He explains to his best friend in a slightly defeated tone making you furrow your eyebrows as you slowly peek over the volleyball cart to get a quick look at the ace and setter.
Akaashi chuckles a bit before responding to Bokuto “First off, I’m surprised you’re self aware at how loud you are,” he says earning a ‘watch it’ from Bokuto, “Secondly, I really think you should tell her how you feel. The end of the school year is coming up and who is to say you’ll ever see her again? You really want to leave high school without even trying?” Akaashi asks Bokuto making him think for a while before he shakes his head.
“I just can’t do it, Akaashi.” Bokuto slumps while sitting while Akaashi pats his back. Right now, in Bokuto’s mind, he thinks he’d be better off keeping his feelings to himself instead of the possibility of rejection. Meanwhile, your mind is going a million miles per second as you just found out that the guy you’ve had the biggest crush on for years feels the same way. what do you do now? Come out of hiding and tell him how you feel? No, that’s too bold and he might think you’re weird for eavesdropping like this. What about just waiting for him to confess? Nope, he made it sounds like he wasn’t going to tell you for sure.
After what feels like forever with your thoughts, you hear the door next to the volleyball cart open to see Yukie and Kaori. Your eyes quickly widen and hurry to shush them before they say anything but it fails as they walk towards you.
“Sorry we took so long [name], coach had us do some pape- what are you doing behind there?” Yukie asks as she moves the cart out of the way earning her a glare from you. Meanwhile, a few feet away, Akaashi and Bokuto are staring at you with their jaws practically on the floor.
“What’s up with you two?” Kaori asks as she walks over to them, waving her hand in fron of their eyes while they’re still in complete shock. Akaashi is the first to snap out of it, he then shakes Bokuto who somewhat comes to his senses.
Turning to look down at you still on the floor, Akaashi clears his throat “[name], I thought you left already.” Akaashi tries to say cooly as he glances to Bokuto quickly who is still in shock.
“Haa…nope! Still here!” you laugh nervously as you’re pulled up from the ground by Kaori and Yukie who give each other confused looks.
“So out of curiosity, no other reason…” Akaashi starts off coyly as he sways a bit “how much of our conversation did you hear…” he asks in a quiet nervous tone.
“Not much!” you start to answer with a lie but couldn’t help yourself “okay that was a lie I heard everything!” you blurt out and Akaashi widens his eyes and quickly turns back to Bokuto who is still on the bench. He quickly rushes to catch Bokuto who is about to fall off of the bench as he looks like his soul has left his body completely. Bokuto has passed out.
While everyone sits around Bokuto’s passed out body, you and Akaashi explain everything to Kaori and Yukie who end up laughing their heads off.
“[name]! That’s hilarious! I’m so glad we left you here!” Kaori cackles out before calming down and standing up. “Now you have to confess to him.” She says seriously as Yukie stands up as well. You facepalm and turn to look at Akaashi who has a confused look on his face.
“You like Bokuto back, [name]?” He asks and you nod making him look back to the two managers “and the both of you knew and didn’t say anything? Even though you knew they both liked each other back?” he questions them and they laugh nervously.
“Well would you look at the time! We gotta go!” Yukie shouts as her and Kaori run out of the gym leaving you behind with both of the boys.
Sighing, Akaashi looks at you softly. “[name], I know we aren’t close by any means but Bokuto is my best friend and I think it would really benefit the both of you if you both talked about your feelings. Can you do that?” Akaashi explains and asks you. You think for a bit before sighing and nodding.
“I can do that. Thank you, Akaashi.” you thank the setter while smiling.
“Well then, I’ll leave you two to it,” Akaashi stands up and looks at Bokuto’s body still splayed out on the ground “he’ll wake up in a bit don’t worry.” He assures you before walking out of the gym before you could even protest to being alone with Bokuto. Akaashi was right though, it only took one minute after he left for Bokuto to start waking up.
“Hey Bokuto.” you smile sweetly at Bokuto as his eyes flutter open. He stares up at you in confusion for a bit before he remembers what happens and quickly sits up.
“[name]! Hi! Listen I’m so sorry I understand if you hate me now but please don’t run awa-” Bokuto starts rambling out an apology before you start giggling “What’s funny? Are you not mad? Are you making fun of me?” more panic overtakes Bokuto but you get ahold of his hands and look at him.
“Bo,” you catch his attention using a nickname which also makes him blush “don’t worry about it. I’m not mad and i’m not making fun of you.” you let out a sigh and close your eyes before continuing “Honestly, I have a crush on you too, I have since first year. I never told you because I was worried you would think I’m too quiet or too boring…basically your reason but the opposite,” you let a nervous giggle out before opening your eyes up again “I know you didn’t want me to find out like this so I I understand if you don’t want to talk about this right now.” You finish your own rambling and look up at Bokuto who looks like he’s frozen. “Bokuto?” you say his name and it snaps him out of his daze and a few seconds later, Bokuto’s face is centimeters away from your face making you blush like crazy and have your heart beating loud and fast.
“Do you really like me? You’re not just saying that?” Bokuto asks seriously as his golden eyes stare into your own eyes and you nod which makes him let go of your hands and jump up to cheer. After a few more louds noises of excitement and happiness, Bokuto holds his hand out in front of you to pull you up to which you offer. After being pulled up to your feet, Bokuto brings you in for a tight hug, catching you off guard but you end up hugging him back. “I’m so happy to hear that, [name].” He mumbles into your hair quietly making you giggle.
You pull back a bit to smile up at him “I’m really happy too, Bo.” you use his nickname again causing him to audibly swoon.
“I love hearing you say that,” he sighs lovingly as he closes his eyes before looking back at you “and I love you..” he whispers but then quickly panics as your eyes widen in response “I’m so sorry is it too soon? Oh my god I haven’t even asked you to be my girlfriend yet, I’m an idiot.” Bokuto rambles once again before you cut him off by kissing him on the cheek.
“Stop apologizing and worrying,” you chuckle as you look at his flushed, red face “I love you too…I don’t care if it’s too soon, I know I do.” you smile sweetly at him making him calm down
“Well then, [name], will you do me the honor of being my girlfriend?” Bokuto asks you quietly, smiling the same soft smile from earlier. The one you wanted to believe was made for you.
“Of course, Bokuto, I would love to be your girlfriend!” You answer him with joy and his smile grows bigger and...yeah, that smile was made for you and only you. Bokuto then picks you up and spins you around before giving you a soft kiss on the lips to which you kiss him back.
After a few seconds you both pull away and look at each other with so much love before you’re both surprised to hear cheering coming from outside the the gym. Turning to look out the window, you see Kaori, Yukie, and Akaashi staring inside from the other side of the window. The sight make the both of you smile widely before Bokuto sets you on the ground again to grab his things.
“Shall we go?” Bokuto takes your hand in his and gestures towards your friends and the door.
“Yes we shall.” You respond after kissing his cheek.
The both of you then walk out of the gym to join your three friends outside to walk home, but not before Bokuto yells out “[name] is my girlfriend!” in the loudest voice he could possibly let out causing you to bury your face in his side while the others laugh at him.
This relationship is going to be fun.

hEYYY! i love ur writing honestly, sitting here with butterflies 😩??! could i request oikawa, suna, tendou and anyone else u like’s reaction to you measuring ur hand size by comparing it to theirs 🥺.
Tumblr media
comparing hand sizes
Tumblr media
↳ oikawa, suna, tendou (i genuinely didn’t know who else to add ahsjshsksj sorry)
↳ *screams into my pillow* omg thank you so much you’re so sweet😭 (and also im so sorry for posting this so late!! <\3)
Tumblr media
— OIKAWA
it was actually him who asked to compare hand sizes, saying that yours looked ‘sooo tiny’ compared to his. it was obvious that they were, indeed, smaller, but you played along. “what a surprise” you told him when your palms met, your fingertips only reaching his middle phalange. he replied pensively: “mmh, that’s what i thought…”, but he wasn’t even looking at your hands anymore, his gaze was plunged into your eyes. you looked up, feeling his heavy stare, which gave him the green-light to lace his fingers with yours “…it’s a perfect fit”. a proud smile on his lips, he gave you a confident wink, but really he was just trying to hide how relieved he was that you hadn’t let go of his hand. “that was smooth” you admitted, and he humbly bowed at your comment: “right? and i’m not planning on letting go, so… i’m afraid we’re gonna have to get dinner together”.
— SUNA
“babe, do you know how painful it is to watch you come up with lame strategies just to hold my hand?” suna rolled his eyes at you, when the only thing you did was mentioning how big his hand looked. “oh i’m the one coming up with lame strategies?” you gasped offendedly, “you’re the one who never put gloves on when we go out just to have an excuse to grab my hand”. suna remained silent, pondering whether or not he should try to act cocky… but you spoke up again before he could make a decision: “yeah, you’re not slick, rin. i’ve got you all figured out”. he laughed at your words, but you knew him too well to know that you had managed to get him flustered: “alright, i plead guilty….” he told you with a capitulating smile, before bringing his hand closer to yours, until no gap was left between your palms, “but jokes aside… i really do have huge hands, what the fuck”.
— TENDOU
tendou seemed to find it funny how big his hand was compared to yours. your fingertips seemed miles away from his. “did you know that the more the hand sizes of two people are different, the more they’re made for each other?” he told you, his fingers fiddling with yours. “wait what? who said that?” you asked, hardly believing him (although it would mean something very positive for the both of you). he propped himself up on his elbow, already looking proud of his next words: “some guy named tendou satori, i don’t know if you’ve heard of him. he’s brilliant”. you mirrored his position, your hand not leaving his, and leaned in for a quick peck on his lips: “i don’t think i have. but tell me more! he really does sound like a brilliant man”.

new message I suna rintaro
Tumblr media
“Hey,” Suna breathes into his phone’s microphone before swallowing thickly.
“It’s me,” he pauses, “Suna, I mean.”
“How-” he croaks out, “how have you been?” he asks before dragging a calloused hand down the length of his face and mumbling, stupid fucking question.
“I didn’t expect to not be blocked,” he says mostly to himself as he stares into the darkness of his room, quiet except for the sound of his rhythmic breathing.
A few beats pass in silence as he composes his next sentence in his head,
“I heard you’re getting married tomorrow,” the words come out strained and are followed by a deep inhale, his eyes begin to prick but he continues anyway, “feel free to stop listening and delete this voice message now, it really won’t be getting any better,”
He waits a few moments before continuing, “so Samu huh?” his grip on the armrest of the chair tightens.
“He’ll take good care of ya,” he adds, “I’ll make sure he does,”
There’s a deep sigh, it resonates in the room illuminated only by his phone screen.
“Look,” he whispers as he runs a hand through his hair, feeling his chest get tighter and head get lighter. “I know how selfish this is, to call you after years on the night before your wedding,”
“But I guess I can’t run away forever,” he adds much quieter this time.
Suna switches on the yellow lamp at his desk, shutting his eyes as he leans back.
“Remember how we met?” he recalls fondly, hints of a smile peeping through for the first time in months.
“Atsumu was trying to hit on a girl by hitting her with the classic ‘this one is for you’ before serving during practice and completely missed, hitting it onto the scoreboard instead and we laughed so fucking hard that they sent us out of the gym for the while.” a half-hearted chuckle tumbles past his lips before silence falls again.
Suna rotates in his desk chair, staring at the ceiling, “did I ever tell you that I had my eyes on you since before then?”
Pinching the bridge of his nose, “sorry,” he huffs out.
“Um” gulping, he hesitates, “I’m happy for you,”
He can practically hear you making fun of him for being cringe and cliché and he lightly chuckles to himself.
“Samu’s good,” he pauses, “you deserve good,”
A few moments pass before he adds, “I’m sorry I couldn’t be that,”
The lump in his throat is now larger than ever.
He drags a hand down his face for the second time this night, chastising himself for how pitiful and stupid he must look at this moment.
He really wishes he wasn’t sober right now because maybe alcohol would make this ordeal so much less painful but pathetically enough for him, this is a decision he made at 100% sobriety.
“And I swear, this is the last time I’ll bother you,” he inhales deeply before continuing, “just some things I need to say before…” he trails off, weighing the pros and cons of finishing that sentence. The cons outweigh the pros but fuck it, he thinks.
“Before you’ll never be mine again,”
“Again, stop listening if you want,” he sighs, “this is a pretty horrible thing to do to someone who's getting married tomorrow, so if you want to stop listening and forget this ever happened I wouldn't blame you.”
The thing is, Suna is probably the last person on earth to act like this, to act like he cares when there’s no evidence to prove that the other person does but it took him the better part of a year to realise that he missed you and it took him two others to realise that he always will.
This year he realised that he doesn’t want to miss you anymore.
“I’m sorry,” he blurts out, “for not fighting to make you stay,”
“I know that was what you wanted,”
His heart twists in his chest as recalls the scene, the tears and the heartbreak. The possibility of him being who you tie the knot with tomorrow instead of Osamu. You would have stayed, he knows. If you knew that he truly cared, that he truly loved you, you would have stayed but he watched you leave and did nothing about it.
Tomorrow you’re getting married to his best friend.
Maybe this is his karma.
He sniffs and wipes the stray tears that slipped past with his fingers before continuing, “apologising after so long means nothing, I know.”
“But still,” he continues, “I’m sorry I didn’t chase after you,”
“I thought I could live without you,” there’s silence before he finally confesses, “I can’t.”
He glances at the photo frame resting on the edge of his desk and reaches over to trace your features. You’re smiling brightly at the camera with his arm secured around your waist and his gaze fixed on your face. He’s smiling in that picture, he doesn’t remember the last time he smiled like that. If he were to think back to the last time he was happy, wherever he looked it was with you, dancing with you, fighting with you, laughing with you. It was with you.
He leans into his chair, lifting his feet to rest them on his desk, crossing them, a hand resting on his stomach.
He’s already in pretty deep, might as well go deeper.
“If it wasn’t painfully obvious from the beginning,” he gulps,
“I’m still in love with you.” he pauses,
“I love you yn”
Screwing his eyelids shut, he tries to calm the racing of his heart and relax the tightness in his chest.
“Fucking hell,” he mutters, massaging his temples. He cannot believe that he’s doing this.
He stares at the screen of his phone and his eyes begin to prick again, indicating the formation of new tears. You’re his happiness, it took him too long to realise that because he’s not your happiness anymore, it’s Osamu and he loves you too much to take your happiness away from you even if it’s at the cost of his own.
So, he ends the recording and deletes it.
