I haven’t really seen people talk about this (like one other person tbh), so I figured I’d put in my thoughts/theories.
Warnings: Spoilers for Arcane
Important: Hexcrystal—regular, unstable crystals and Hexgem—are the perfected/stable version
Ok so when the kids rob Jayce’s place, Powder opens the chest of hexcrystals. There are 6 crystals inside and she takes them all. In her haste, Powder accidentally drops one and it explodes. She’s left with 5.
During her mental breakdown in ep3, she spills her stuff onto the floor and when the stuff spills out, we only see 4 crystals.
When Powder decides to ‘help’ the others and she puts the monkeybomb together, she uses 4. It took me multiple rewatches and pausing to see how many hexcrystals she uses but I found out she uses 4 hexcrystals total in her monkey toy. She puts 2 inside the body, 1 around the neck/in the cymbals, and, if you pause it right, you can see she put one inside the monkey head (it glows blue slightly before she attaches it to the body). This was the best screencap I could get, but you can clearly see in the head, a blue light glowing from a hexcrystal.
SHE HAS ONE EXTRA HEXCRYSTAL!! It’s never shown again and I’m sure the writers don’t do anything by accident. There’s no way that a crystal is just ‘missing’ or ‘gone’.
Now for the theories…
—Jinx will figure out how to stabilize the Hexcrystal into a Hexgem. She clearly figured out Jayce’s notes to power a Hexgem (the one she stole) so it’s not crazy to think Jinx would be able to learn to stabilize a Hexcrystal. If she figures it out, we could see how the Hexcrystals are obtained (since all we know rn is that Jayce just has them).
—Jinx will be able to fire her rocket (Fishbones I think it’s called) AGAIN, but she would have to stabilize the extra Hexcrystal (or risk the rocket not working right).
—Ekko will find the missing Hexcrystal. There’s no proof Jinx still has it, so it’s possible Ekko will find it and he/Heimerdinger will argue about using it. Heimerdinger would obviously try to persuade Ekko not to (cuz of Jayce/Viktor), but Ekko being the science boy he is, cannot resist.
—After some convincing, Heimerdinger reluctantly agrees and they figure out time travel w/ the missing Hexcrystal.
—Jinx has the crystal and Singed learns she has it. He asks her if he can use it to reanimate Vander’s body (causing Jinx conflict w/ her wanting Singed to revive Silco instead—but it being impossible w/ him).
—Jinx could’ve given the hexcrystal to Silco for safe keeping-not wanting to be around it. Silco wouldn’t have it just laying around on his desk or something, he’d keep it hidden/locked up to not traumatize Jinx. During the finale, Sevika is shown to be in Silco’s office when Jinx fires her rocket. Sevika could snoop around and find the crystal herself and use it to blackmail Jinx (w/ Silco dead, someone has to take charge and I def see it being between Sevika vs Jinx).
I suppose there is a TINY chance that the writers did just miscount the crystals and one is just missing/gone, but I really, REALLY doubt it. There are so many possibilities w/ having an extra ‘missing’ hexcrystal that I think the writers would definitely wanna expand upon. If it turns out that the hexcrystal really is just gone/missing, I’d be pretty disappointed.
What do you guys think? Will the missing hexcrystal be important going into S2 or do you think the writers just ‘forgot’ about that extra blue crystal? I’d love to hear your thoughts/theories regarding this as well (since it’s not really mentioned).

Here is an idea
Jayce comes back to the lab from working at the forge, and he has a small burnt right over his nipple. Not serious enough to hurt but annoying enough for having to take his shirt off.
A blatant violation of lab safety requirements
So Viktor decides to treat it "Zaunite style" (sucking and licking and massaging the area)
Anyway, they are still not together and despite Jayce coming in his pants he just can´t believe he has such a good friend :D
Viktor wants to smash his head against a hexcrystal
I love this utter disaster of a Jayce we’ve all concocted. Man’s a once-in-a-generation genius, and we’ve all collectively decided that he thinks casual, totally platonic nipple-sucking is a thing that exists.
Jayce: “What? Why are you looking at me like that? Your friends don’t suck on your nipples?”
Caitlyn, in utter shock: “Er. No, Jayce. No one’s friends do that.”
*Viktor actively attempting to give himself a concussion in the background*

my mind is blown ,is there SERIOUSLY no one who’s created a jayvik drunk science fic ??? or am i just not looking hard enough???
has NO ONE created a fic where these two are just doing absolutely RECKLESS and PRECARIOUS science experiments, drunk off their asses, stumbling over themselves; the scientists who worked on fucking HEXTECH for fuck’s sake — LITERAL. VOLATILE. POWER SOURCES
you’ve seen jayce, bored, wanting to “fool around” and gently knock a hexcrystal with his hammer like a fucking golf club. now get ready for; jayce and viktor borderline almost blow up a whole fucking lab, red-faced drunk and laughing their asses off. NOW get ready for; jayce finally loosens up for once, under the influence of alcohol and his new lab partner, willing to push the rules he abided by for a majority of his life, both staring at the carnage they’ve caused in pure hysteria (that is before heimer is on their asses, anyway.)
i’m no scientist. i’d be horrible at writing this. but Do i have to do it??
do i have to be the change i want to see in the world????? do i have to write the drunk science fic????? /lh

#yeah i think caitlyn might also be thinking “who am I to ask you to stay” this a THOUSAND percent. i wish i could put screenshots in asks lol but the expression on her face when vi looks up at her while hugging ekko screams to me that she wants so badly to say something to protest against her leaving but she doesn't think she has the right. this is vi's sister they're talking about, while caitlyn only met vi a few days ago.

like this is not JUST sadness. this is caitlyn's "i want to say something but i don't know what" face. and she's so respectful of vi's wishes that she just keeps quiet and hugs her instead of saying anything, and even then she hesitates like she's not totally sure if she's allowed to do it, or if she's supposed to be feeling this way after such a short time.

Honestly, this scene was handled so masterfully! And at this point, the only thing Caitlyn knows about Jinx is that she works for Silco and was the one to steal the hexcrystal before almost blowing her up (unknowingly, for the second time). Yet she doesn't make a comment about Jinx like Ekko does. Caitlyn doesn't tell Vi that she should give up on her sister because she's become a hardened criminal. She lets Vi be because she can see how much she loves her sister. And she's not going to hold her back because of feelings she's only recently developed. It wouldn't be right of her to expect Vi to choose her over Powder. Not now.
That's why she's slightly hesitant to hug Vi and reveal any of those feelings. But then, unexpectadly for Caitlyn, Vi shows that she reciprocates those feelings (with "It's been real, Cupcake" and the cheek touch). In light of this newfound mutuality, they both let their gaurd down a little, and let any words they're not able to say seep into each other by hugging even tighter.
Anyways, thanks so much for the brain dump (It fueled this brain dump of mine lol). Always love your CaitVi analyses!

I know I'm in the minority, but I am honestly, truly glad that they retconned the Brackern being the source of Hextech. Even before Arcane, I was never a fan of that plotpoint. I talked about it a bit in Skarner video essay, but my feelings on the matter have only strengthened.
To simplify my thoughts: I just don't see what everyone else does in the old Skarner lore. I never found it particularly 'deep' or 'tragic.' I can tell there was an ATTEMPT to make it so, but I feel like the attempt falls flat for a variety of reasons.
Like, the core of Skarner's prior story was KIND of an environmental message; people using up a rare and limited resource to power their city, with the added tragedy of that resource being alive and sapient. Humans continued to exploit the Brackern regardless though, because most people just couldn't understand that Hexcrystals were alive and the few who did were just cruel bastards that didn't care.
There was supposed to be this whole dilemma of "could the people really give up on using Hexcrystals if they found out they were effectively torturing living people by using them, even if that threatened to compromise their way of life?" And honestly, I don't think that's much of a dilemma.
Like, if Skarner and/or Seraphine ever managed to get the word out and reveal the truth about Hexcrystals to a massive audience, I genuinely think that would be the end of Hextech... Except not really because the lore established that synthetic Hexcrystals are a thing so there's already an easy solution the issue regardless. They're more fragile and not as long-lasting, but if you can create cheaper copies that AREN'T alive to power your machines anyway then Piltover could still probably function with relatively the same degree of efficiency, especially if research was done to improve on the synthetic copies.
Also, we have to take into account that this is Runeterra: a world with like a billion different forms of magic. Piltover is NOT the only or first nation to use magic technology. Shurima, Icathia AND Ixtal all figured out how to make machines powered by the arcane, and one could even argue that Demacia has something like that going with its petricite golems. Hell, Zaun even has chemtech, which has its own share of problems, but still!
My point is that the brackern crystals were never the only viable source of power for Hextech in Runeterra. There are SEVERAL alternatives that could be reached if people actually took the time to look, and the only reason that no one does is because, again, most Piltovans just don't see a reason to.
New Skarner's lore has issues. I'm not entirely sure I like the idea of making him a full-on villain and it's a little unclear exactly what/where the Brackern are now, but I at least think this version of the character offers a bit more genuine nuance than the Brackern Crystal plotline ever did.

Sorceress Jinx!AU
I apologize in advance if this is a little all over the place, I'm still working out the details 😄
So I've had this little brain worm since yesterday, what if Jinx were a sorceress with untapped magical potential and her auditory and visual hallucinations were a byproduct of this magical potential.
Disclaimer: I acknowledge that Jinx suffers from mental illness and that she is quite possible the best representation for untreated mental illness and PTSD, I mean no offence with my AU idea I just wanted to do a fun what if scenario without all of the tragedy of Act 1.
Act 1 would play out the same except that the Hexcrystals in Powder's possession help channel the magical potential that she isn't aware she has, an example of this (and a major plot point for the story) is that when her and her siblings are fleeing Piltover Powder inadvertently casts an illusion spell on the Enforcers making them confused on who they were chasing; to better explain, the Enforcers know that they were chasing someone but they can't quite put a description to the culprits. As such when they go down to the Undercity to hunt for Vi and the others they have no description to go by, so they aren't down there hunting for four kids and because nobody knows or suspects Vander's kids, Vander doesn't get scrutinized for letting the Enforcers run rampant looking for his kids whilst he protects them.
(if any of that makes sense)
As a result Silco doesn't take this opportunity to overthrow Vander, and after some time the Enforcers have no choice but to drop the search.
So what changes is that:
Benzo and Greyson live
Vander isn't kidnapped
Mylo and Claggor don't get blown up
Vi doesn't end up in Stillwater
And, the streets aren't flooded with Shimmer... Yet.
So while everyone can start to breathe easier, Powder is having a personal struggle because she can see figures and symbols every where that nobody else can see.
She's scared and tries to tell her family but it either gets brushed off as an overactive imagination or she gets teased by Mylo (who quits real quick after making her cry), so after awhile she just keeps this information to herself.
But one day she touches one of the symbols and it causes a reaction to her environment (not sure what just yet), after some tests she is able to determine that what she's seeing isn't just in her mind.
However she still keeps this to herself because she doesn't want to be judged again, she does try to tell Ekko but he just thinks it's a new game 🥺

My ideas for the Arcane Actors AU:
Adult Vi: The actor everyone simps for. Like the Florence Pugh or the Ryan Reynolds of the cast. She also makes the rude jokes to other actors and pushed for her character to be gay. Like she had to also train and learn boxing for her scenes as well as she fought it'd be good representation with having a buff actress.
Jinx: The actor that steals so many props from set. She has a collection of the bombs and notebooks and Hexcrystals from the scenes she was in. She gets told off for it but does it anyways.
Adult Caitlyn: The uncontroversial actor. Everyone loves her character, everyone loves her. She probably also is the very charitable actor who helps discuss serious issues in her interviews and ties it in with the show. She also did archery and guns classes before the show since she wanted to be a cop at one point.
Adult Mel: Probably the actor who is known for having the best outfits. She is also the multiple trick actor (She could possibly also sing). At the met gala she is the only one who fills the genre to a T. She's also probably been nominated as the hottest female awards on separate occasions.
Sevika: The actor who is clearly at their wits end with the other cast members or is a cinnanom roll. She's also probably diverse as a POC actor who is an amputee. She also probably is one of the more responsible of the actors.
Adult Viktor: He is probably the actor who just sits there spacing out half the time as well as spontaneously having numerous PhDs. So really he should be getting asked questions but isn't. He was also was a runner up for the Tumblr sexy man. He also posts about C!Jayvik constantly to the point the director told him off for lieing about what happens in the show. He posted about that too.
Adult Jayce: He's the actor that is socially awkward. But in the sweet way. Sometimes in an interview he'd say something and go "Wait was that a spoiler??". He also probably struggles to act confident in the council and negotiation scenes. Probably got an award for his acting in the second episode with Jinx.
Silco: The actor who is a grouch. Makes fun of the cast and jokes about them. He probably got cancelled on Twitter at one point (Vi and Viktor had a blast on Twitter during this time). Though he does have a soft spot for Jinx and Powder. He also talks about random stuff with Vander on interviews consistently that aren't even relevant.
Vander: The actor who adopted all the other actors with Silco. He says he doesn't have a favourite child but he isn't afraid to put them up for adoption if they get on his nerves for too long.

I thought about making an essay for this, but I'll say it instead. Shimmer and the Hexcrysyals are both Void connected.
I've already said a lot about Shimmer production and how the history of the Void has influenced the story of Zaun.
Hexcrystals are trickier to nail down, but I have two theories:
1. Hexcrystals are probably leftover husks of Voidling left deep in the earth. There are multiple stories in League where the Void breaks free deep from the ground where the hivemind resides.
2. The hexcrystals naturally develop near hubs of Void energy because the Arcane and the Void are dependent on eachother to produce and consume power.
I lean more to the latter because the dual nature of the Void and the Arcane being two sides of the same coin would be a better thematic fit with the dual nature of Zaun and Piltover.

Well I feel dumb, but I missed until now that Jayce’s journal in the Council Archives (sort of) explains where he got the Hexcrystals:
sand appears to cascade into infinity; not a hypothesis I'm willing to test
I never thought I'd find myself so far from home again. But all my research led to this:
This mineral must be the key to unlocking the secrets of the arcane.
The desert conditions must be a reference to Shurima.
The treasure hunter has assured me that the stories I've heard about this crystal are true.
* Advised not to cut or otherwise damage the crystal
* Traders avoid the sale of it—too risky?
Man claims to have floated an inch off the ground prior to a massive burst of energy
A bluish light outshone the stars last night when contractors digging at a work site stumbled upon something something dangerous in the ground.
"We struck something. Some type of rock. Didn't even catch a glimpse of it before the wave hit me."
The wave to which this miner - who wishes to remain anonymous - refers was a blast of energy that set the carefully planned project back by months.
He also mentions inert crystals that he found in different locations, which is really interesting.
The 3 depleted crystals in my possession each bear a different mark - what I believe to be letters of a runic script:
* one from my childhood
* from a seller in Bilgewater
* from a Zaunite pawn shop
