“Heart rates at… Did the last… Run those again.”
War Woman let out a final cough of blood before she slumped over next to her teammates, all of them either dead or half alive as she touched down; eyes blown wide at the scene at hand.
“Get a hold of…r blood pressure is…a that, it’s all good.”
“No, get out of h-” before she could run to aid her father the bruised Omi-Man kneeling next to him chopped his head clean off with one swipe. He never felt so helpless in his life than he did at that moment, the world turning sideways and going mute as she stared at him with such horror, agony, too many emotions to process in time before the pressure of Omni-Mans foot became too much for his skull to bare.
“Oh… Someone… The Immortal and let… is awake.”

“I don’t know… I don’t feel any different.”
William quirked a brow at the red head before tipping his bottle to the side. “It’s graduating high school, not losing your virginity. Amber, summer plans. Go.”
She gave them a laid back smirk before speaking. “Nothing but swimming pools and sleeping late for two whole months.” Then she paused and set her drink down, “I mean… on the weekends, maybe. I’m at the community center Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Oh! And did I tell you guys I’m volunteering for the Katie Giles campaign?”
Both William and Eve stared at her with blank faces. “That’s your idea of a summer vacation?” They count believe she actually wanted to work during the summer, for free no less.
“Hey, Giles is the real deal. Do you even know your state comptroller?”
“I don’t even know what a state comptroller is, but you do you. I’m gonna find the trashiest reality show I’ve never heard of and binge every episode twice. Eve, please Amber how to properly vay-cay.” He tipped his bottle towards the red head wanting her to talk some sense into their friend.
“I’m um… Going to help finish the remodeling up in Chicago…” She turned to Mark who finally faced the group from where he was standing. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to make it weird.”
“No, that’s… That’s amazing.”
“Do you ever miss punching bad guys in the face? Seems cathartic.” Amber asked her, remembering all the times Eve would tell them an exciting story about saving the day.
“Right now, I’m just happy helping people.” The red head answered honestly. William drunkly chuckled at her while turning his bottle upside down, “Speaking of helping people…”
Eve smiled and stood up, materializing more drinks for them from a hanging branch near by. “God, I love having superhero friends. I mean Mark won’t even take me flying anymore. Boo. Hiss. Even (Y,n) found time to throw me up in the air and catch me!” The room was filled with laughter but only for a few seconds before a somber aura washed over them.
She should’ve been there with them, walking the stage for graduation, going to college for her psychology degree before focusing on being a hero full time. It wasn’t a fair situation, not when they’ve all dreamed of this day happening.
Amber straightened her back and raised her bottle in the air. “To (Y,n)… She was taken from us too early. So here’s to us graduating along side her memory’s and to new beginnings!” All three friends raised their drinks to start toasting but paused,
"Mark?" Amber called out, tipping her bottle towards him.
"I'm on call..."
"That's alright!" Eve plucked the last bottle from the branch and transformed it into coconut with fruits, it even came with a straw. "What is it?" He asked, finally standing in a circle with the group.
"Virgin Mai tai, now come! Cheers guys!" All four friends clinked their drinks together in celebration.

"We called them Heroes, role models, protectors, but no one ever expected to call the Guardians Of The Globe victims. Welcome to our first annual commemoration of the massacre that shook the world."
They sat there in the white sterile room, the thin blanet on the their lap slowly unraveled as they picked at each thread, mindlessly pulling them apart.
"We begin by honoring Aquarus, King of Atlantis-"
"How are you feeling today?" The chirpy voice of a nurse cut through the droning focus, taking their attention away from the TV as she walked into the room with a kind smile. Her eyes glanced over at the program before rounding the bed and putting gloves on. "Any pain here? Or here?"
The nurse watched their eyes search theirs for a moment before flicking back towards the TV, it slightly worried her how fixated her patient was on something that possibly be harmfull if they weren't careful.
"Next, we honor a woman who trained, and fought hard to become part of the team and but sadly, their dream was short lived. The Immortals daughter; (S,n). The up and coming hero was well known, and well loved by millions-"
"Maybe we should turn this off for now, yeah? What do you-"
"Where is he?" The nurse stuttered for a second, not sure what they meant by that.
"Who do you mean?"
As if the question annoyed them, they glared her way. "I want to leave. Now." They shoved her away, yanking out all of the needles and sensors attatched to them as the nurse scrambled and stand in the doorway.
"J-Just wait a second! you're not fully healed yet a-and there's many more tests to be done!" They leaned down a few inches and match the nurses height puffed out their chest.
"And you're gonna stop me?" The nurse was visibly trembling at this point, her patient had lost their memory after the accident was slowly regaining bits and pieces of their life before which meant they developed this new attitude of not really giving fuck about anything or anyone. She wouldn’t be the first nurse running out of the room in fear of their lives.
But today was her lucky day. “That’s enough. Nurse May why don’t you go take a break now.” She wasted no time darting out as Cecil entered the tense room. He watched them pace from one end to the other with a scowl Harding his expression.
“This is the last we’re going to have this conversation and this is the last you’re going to hurt one of my nurses. You do it again I’ll have you so sedated you’ll be wearing a diaper for the rest of your recovery.” They paused for a while, staring at the TV in thought. Cecil audibly sighed and ran a hand down his face in fustration. They weren't stable enough to be let out into the public, hell it was a danger just to have his hospital personal come in and do their jobs.
"Listen... I know this is rough for you but I promise it'll get better. You're Immortal, this is what you're built for." Decided enough was said, Cecil backed out of the room leaving them to turn their attention to the metal door.

After a summer full of battling all kinds of monsters (The giant from Atlantis had to be at the top of his list) Mark was ready to start his first day of collegeand lucky for him, it couldn’t be going any better. Most of Marks introduction classes were with Amber and William, he already managed to meet few new peers who he could see himself calling friends later on in life.
He never imagined there'd be so much so to do on in the few hours, Mark joined a robotics club, cultural club, Science club, and Film club; which was mostly a cover just to fuck around and watch movies so he wasted no time to sign up.
It felt good to be there. Around people his age who only had to worry about their upcoming assignements and who's going with who to the party tonight, okay if he was being honest there was a lot of similarities between high school and college but besides that no one here knew of his past.
No one offered him their condolense for his 'dead' father or his girlfriend, it was nice to actually have a conversation with someone that wasn't wrapped in pity.
Mark laid back in his bed flipping through one of his old comics while William chatted about a hot guy he ran into a few times earlier that day until there was a knock at the door. Willaim was the first to stand up, flinging the door open. "Speaking of the devil... You following me around?" He leaned against the door and placed a hand on his hip with a sultry smile.
"Actually... I'm here for Mark."
"Oh..." Seeing the way he deflated and the confused looks on his friends face he quickly explained himself. "I-I mean that there's this weird chick out here looking for you, she's just wondering around out there."
Mark jumped out of his bed and slipped on a pair of shoes, he peeked out the window for a second and sure enough, some girl was in the front lawn stopping every person that walked and speaking erracticly causing them to slowly back away before practically running. He knew whoever that person had to be trouble.
"Some strange girl showing up on your first day of college? What do you think? Alien from another planet needing your help?" William wrapped his arm around Marks shoulder and kept his voice to a whisper as they watched the girl pace back and forth.
"Reading my mind... Hey uh, I'll be right back. Stay here." Mark sat William down his own bed and pushed his friend into the room before darting out. He couldn't have one normal day? Just one day without having to fight some asshole?
Once he made it to the ground floor students started screaming and running past him into the building, bumping into him as he pushed his outside. The chick had a hoodie covering her face and her back turned towards Mark but he could see her grabbing a fellow students neck on side and gradually adding pressure.
That was enough for Mark to use his speed, wrapping his arms around her waist and flying out of there before anybody could realize what was happening. As he flew through the woody area he broke trees with her back before throwing her to ground once he deemed they were a safe distance away from the school.
“Start talking. Who the hell are you and what do you want?”
She slowly raised from the ground in a sitting position facing away from him, taking a second to catch her breath but that was too long for Mark. He took it upon himself to zip over and grab ahold of her shoulder and spun her around,
“You’re gonna start talking or-”
“Mark?”
He stared down at her and froze. This wasn’t real. She isn’t real. (Y,n) died just a year ago, they dug a grave, had a funeral, they’re still grieving her death and this person has the nerve to have the same eyes as her, the same nose, the same mouth sobbing out his name. “Mark…” She moved first, throwing her arms around his neck for the tightest hug she could manage in their position. The same nostalgic hug he loved receiving whenever she missed him too much, it could’ve been an hour or a day of not seeing him and she’d collapse into arms just like this-
“Oh my god.” The shock finally dissolved allowing Mark to return the hug, pulling her impossibly close as he buried his face between her neck and shoulder inhaling her natural scent, the one that just started to fade from her old clothes; he began to cry. Oh my fucking god, I can’t believe- how are you- what?”
They pulled apart just enough for his hold her face, a shaky exhale leaving him as he felt the warmth of her checks in his palms. This was real wasn’t it?
“It’s me, Mark… I’m here…” It was like she trying to convince herself as well, holding Marks face, touching his chest and stopping at his heart, leaning against his touch which he happily took the weight of her head just to lean his forehead against hers with a content sigh. A tranquil moment shared between the two lost lovers, it was surreal to be able to hold her again, to kiss her again, he almost forgotten how soft they were; for a year there was something missing, an empty feeling his chest that only grew as time went on but now… It’s never felt so full.
She pulled back first, just a few inches to stare into his watery eyes.
“How is this happening?” With his racing heart, Mark silently prayed this wasn’t some cruel illusion.
“My father is The Immortal, Grayson. It’s kind of in the name.” Her joke was enough to put a smirk on his lips but she could knew he wanted a real answer. “I… I don’t remember much. I remember being called in, blood everywhere, your father’s face…” (Y,n) sucked in a shaky breath, hands reaching out for his as if it grounded her.
“Then I woke up in one of Cecil’s lab and he wouldn’t let me leave, saying I was a danger to civilization-“
“Wait a second- what? Cecil knew you alive this whole time and didn’t tell me!? That guy is fucking dead.” Mark wasted no time standing up, bringing (Y,n) along with him with only one destination set in mind. He couldn’t believe it, another person in his life he was supposed to be able to trust and they turn around and do this? Hide the one thing he’s been missing, craving, losing his mind over. Not a single day went by to where he wasn’t thinking about her.
(Y,n) stopped walking, letting him yank her arm to get him to pause. “You can’t! He’s not the only who thinks I’m not ready, my dad doesn’t want me out here either so I escaped." He stood there for a minute, using his free hand to cover his face in fustration.
"Mark... I didn't just come here because I missed you. I need your help, we need your help." As if on cue, the bushes beside them started to move as a blue bug like alien crawled from it's hiding spot with a nervous look. Mark immediently pulled her closer, stepping away from the strange alien to protect her.
"It's okay... I promise. His name is Nuolzot, he's from the planet thraxa and they need our help."
"I've been searching for you both for days and now that I finally have you both our people will be saved! Rumors of you're strengh, you're speed spread like wildfire; you're the only one's who can save our people from the meteor showers destorying our world!"
He wanted to go, he wanted to so bad but this was his first day of college, tomorrow Mark was supposed to actually start his classes and the clubs he joined and... and none of it would feel right. Espessially if forty five billion innocent alien bug lives would end and not while knowing that (Y,n) was up there by herself, alone. Mark had just got her back, it's only been twenty minutes since their reunion and she was already trying to play the hero, she was raised to think of others before herself so it was his job to look out for her.
Mark agreed, the thought of losing her again even for a few weeks was unbearable. So he agreed.
With barely enough time to update William on what has happened the trio made their way to the ship, ready to embark on a six day jounry to a unkown planet being destroyed by meteors. He expected the trip to boring, being trapped in a space as big as his bedroom should be mind numbing but Mark forgot what it was like to be with her.
Every second they spent together was anything but boring. He talked about everything he did after she was gone, the countless missions he was sent on, graduating high school, getting into the college they both applied for, Mark filled the blanks in her memory the best he could but there were some things that she would have figured out herself or ask her father.
From the way she talks about how he treated her during her time in the lab he might never tell her.
Before they knew it they had entered the atmosphere of a very pink and purple planet. It was beautiful, serene, alien bugs of all shapes and sizes, young and old, looked up to sky as they flew overhead. Once the ship landed the people crowded around and gawked as if they were strangest thing there. “Uh hi?” Mark gave a confused wave as (Y,n) simply smiled.
“Oh, don’t mind them. Come. The monarch wants to meet you at once.” As Nuolzot guided them to the palace Mark was the first to notice that something wasn’t quite right.
“Wait, what exactly about this planet needs saving? Where are the meteors?”
“Meteors? What meteors?” Nuolzot and (Y,n) continued walking, leaving him behind as he stood in place.
“The ones that are killing billions?”
“Oh! Y-yeah those meteors! Must be a touch of dementia. We age much quicker than you humans, you know. Uh, don’t worry. The monarch will explain all.” She took Marks hand with a wink, leading him towards a large staircase surrounded by a golden semi circle at the top with three royally dressed bugs standing in the middle.
Pausing at the first step Nuolzot called out to the others. “Your majesty! May I present Invincible and (S,n) of Earth!” Mark copied the same bow he did, curving his wrist inward and placing it under his chest and bending over slightly to show his respect.
“Hello, Son.”
Mark shot up straight and unconsciously backed away upon hearing the deep voice of the man he never thought he’d see again with (Y,n) standing at Nolan’s side with a proud expression. “It’s been a while.”
“Dad?”

I’m just saying: Amber’s blow up has some justification... It still shows a significant lapse in the writing quality of the show.
Tumblr media
Now, rather than just point out “Mark was nearly beaten to death and was trying to help the broader community that night, which would also include the homeless.” (Things Amber is not privy to as was pointed out by someone else) I’d like to say that she has known for “Weeks” that Mark is a superhero. Not which one he was, but that he was a superhero. Fair enough. She didn’t connect that the guy she thought was a superhero was the one that showed up to the college right when the reaniman attacked and Mark vanished? She blows up at Mark for abandoning her and William. If she thinks he’s a superhero and he doesn’t fight back, that is actually a plausible response but the guy with Mark’s build, hair, and voice dealing with the reaniman right when Mark disappears wasn’t tipping off a smart girl that THAT superhero was Mark? I’m not being facetious either. Amber is clearly an intelligent, compassionate and otherwise good girl with maybe a little bit of a temper and some passive aggression. Relatively well-fleshed out character. But again, her blowing up at Mark for leaving them is completely unfounded. And even if she doesn’t piece together that that guy was Mark, when he’s in her room, in the suit he was using at the time, with his mask on and everything, the whole deal is still dumb as shit. Again, she may not have certain details but Mark makes no defense or case for himself and Amber seems to just forget that the GUARDIANS OF THE FUCKING GLOBE, you know, the world’s premiere super team, The one that was murdered all at once? God forbid Mark or ANY superhero be a little gun-shy with their identities after that. Again, the idea of that going over Amber’s head, a smart, empathetic sort, is just fucking stupid. Yeah, Mark’s not a perfect saint but the situation is completely fucked for him and everyone. He is literally in a no-win situation and that’s just how it is. The fact that Eve doesn't understand the importance of his secret identity when she also has one is insane as well when, again, the Guardians were all murdered. That is the kind of shit that is going to ROCK most superheroes to the core for a good while, I’m just saying. Especially when I’m pretty sure she would also know about Nolan, Mark’s FATHER being nearly beaten to death, too. As far as anyone can tell, that was just the same assailant but they failed to kill Nolan. William at least has the excuse that he doesn’t understand or have all that great an insight into superheroics.

Been getting a bit back into Invincible stuff lately, especially what with Season 2 coming, and I remembered Nikki - the homeless girl whom Martian Man was friends with (and possibly living with?). And I still feel really bad about her honestly.
She's a pretty minor question but her role is both very tragic and also kinda raises several questions.
For one thing; why didn't Martian Man seemingly do anything for her? At least get her to social services or try to arrange some proper housing for her other than a condemned building. Is it due to lack of understanding of earth/humans due to being Martian? Or did he try but wasn't able to do anything?
There is probably an argument to be made that pulling strings for Nikki's sake would be too attention-drawing. People might notice this random homeless girl has some important connections and so keep an eye on her and might connect her to Martian Man.
Tumblr media
She at least seemed to be still alive and getting food from the soup kitchen last she appeared. But still... given several other Guardians were shown with loved ones in the montage, it does give the implication that they were quite close, possibly even some kind of parental figure.
Given she's still homeless after his death and is never mentioned by others and also didn't appear to attend the funeral, it does give the impression as well that others are unaware of all. Although even if Martian Man did mention he was friends with a homeless kid; that's probably a fairly vague statement to go on and it'd probably be difficult tracking her down specifically.
But this means that while the families of the other guardians at least got to attend the funeral as a potential form of closure, and also could even possibly use one another for emotion support or appeal to the GDA for assistance... Nikki got none of those options or possibilities.
She's lost someone close to her and she doesn't appear to even have anyone to confide in or watch out for her; few would believe her if she tried discussing her feelings about Martian Man's death and even if they did it would only bring dangerous attention onto her.
Just a shitty situation all round for her and I kind of hope Season 2 shows she's continuing to at least do okay. Haven't read the comic (although I might) but from what I've seen it doesn't appear she was a comic character so I guess her fate's up to the show writers (assuming they choose to show her again anyway).

Homelander vs the Guardians of the Globe Who wins? Personally I can see this going either way The Guardians put up a good fight against Omni-Man and could have won if they had different tactics But Homelander is Homelander He might not be as powerful as Omni-Man, but he's still pretty strong in his own right

I'm glad you enjoyed that Omni-man image since I got obliterated upon looking at it, heheh.
Now I have a question for you! How do you interpret the relationship between the Guardians of the Globe and Nolan, and do you believe that the Guardians had a chance of surviving or even winning in episode 1? Rant all about it, please do.
The picture certainly took me by surprise, that's for sure lol.
As for the whole Nolan/guardians thing, I do believe that they were actually friends at some point. I might be misremembering, but I thought it was stated that Nolan had interacted with the Guardians outside of their whole superhero thing---and while that could've been a long-con to get the Guardians to lower their guard around him, I think it's unlikely just because of the type of person Nolan is (he didn't even come up with a good alibi for when he killed the Guardians, so he probably wouldn't go through all the effort of getting close to each of them.)
Even so, I'm not gonna be That Guy and say the Power of Friendship could've saved the Guardians in episode 1. They were dead the moment Omni-man decided he wanted them dead. Besides, if The Hammer (ep 7 or 8 I think) didn't even scratch Nolan, then I doubt a group of superheroes whose powers are Stretch, Run Fast, Bat-Man, Strength, Noclip, and Water would win against him. As much as I loved those guys, the odds just weren't in their favor.
The only I can see the Guardians winning/surviving is if Nolan had decided to pick them off one-by-one instead of attacking all of them at once. In that case, they'd either catch Nolan before he killed all of the Guardians (considering his shoddy alibi), or they'd catch Nolan when he'd go to kill Red Rush because he'd just,,, outrun him. Other than that, I doubt it.
Of course, if you (or anyone else) think differently then I'd love to hear it! :)

———————————
The hospital wing of the GDA was alight with chatter. You had gotten the news only a few minutes ago that Alana had awoken, and you spent no time racing to her hospital room. Holly of course was also there, beaming with joy as she peppered her girlfriend’s face with kisses. Alana had been out of commission for a week due to her injuries. It was a lot better than the alternative, death, if you hadn't intervened and taken some of the damage onto yourself. Your wounds had healed just fine, almost as soon as the next day, and you would’ve done it a million times over to help her.
“We’re so happy to have you back,” Holly said to Alana, absolutely delighted, “we’ve missed you.”
“I’m happy to be back.” Alana gave her a kiss on the nose and turned to you. “I’ve been dying to see everyone again, literally. What did I miss?”
“Not too much, don’t worry.” You assured her. “But I bet you must be starving. Want me to grab you both something?”
“That would be great!” Alana exclaimed, sitting straight up in her bed. “The cafeteria has some bunny chow that’s to die for. It’s something my mom used to make all the time, and it sounds delicious right now.”
“I’ll take the same, thank you.” Holly smiled at you.
“On it!” You stood and headed out, happy to be doing something to help. Winding down the halls, you eventually came upon the cafeteria, ordered, and sat to wait.
It had been a few days since your last conversation with Cecil. You’d seen each other every now and then and said hello, but that was it. Despite your emotions you forced yourself to be patient on the matter. It couldn’t be easy for him to make this decision, and rushing him wouldn’t help matters either. So, you waited, distracting yourself with Earth television and puzzles; that really seemed to be all the entertainment they had available here. With Alana now awake though, you didn’t feel half as lonely anymore. Training with your friends, The Guardians of the Globe, helped too.
“You know that isn’t free, right?” You almost leaped out of your skin as Cecil’s voice sounded next to you.
“Sheesh! Do you ever make a noise?” You chided him lightly, a slight laugh to your voice. “And, wait, what do you mean?”
Cecil nodded towards the cafeteria. “Did you think the food was free here? It’s been going on my tab.” He smirked at you, the amusement in his eyes betraying his jokingly annoyed tone.
“No way,” you gawked at him, feeling stupid, “I’m so sorry. I really didn’t think too much about it.”
Cecil shrugged, taking a seat next to you. “It’s fine. Not like we’re paying you at the moment anyway.” There was a brief lapse in silence as you two sat together. It had been a while since you’d spoken at length.
You glanced at him. “I’ve been thinking about something.” He glanced back at you, quirking his eyebrow in question. “When I first got here, you said you didn’t know much about my planet, yet you knew the flower my people give to the sick.”
Cecil looked down at his lap, chuckling to himself. “After you arrived we sent some satellites to uh, ‘freshen up our knowledge’ on your species.” He scratched his chin. “I was curious as to how you knew English, yet you’d never been in contact with Earth. Didn’t know a species could have a part of their brain for translation.”
Your eyes widened in surprise. “You learned all that from some satellites?”
“Science is amazing.” He snorted, looking back up at you. “But we learned the last bit from your brain scans. The satellites just picked up random strings of information. We always knew of your planet, just… never had a reason to interact until now.”
“I see.” You responded simply, impressed yet slightly disturbed. “You humans are thorough.”
“Just me.” He turned to look down the hallway that led to the hospital rooms. “I hear Alana’s awake, that’s good. The team’s not the same without her.” He turned back to you. “What do you think, by the way? About joining the Guardians. You’re keeping up well, and you definitely have the skills.”
Your cheeks burned at the sudden compliment. “Oh—uh, I like it.” Then you gave a slight tilt of your head, thinking harder. “But I don’t know. It’s terrifying to think about saving people. I’m happy to help, and I love the team but…” you trailed off, looking down.
“Hey, don’t worry about it, you still have time to make a decision. And I get it, believe me, it is a scary thing.” Cecil nudged your shoulder with his. “You’ll always have a home here, whatever you choose.”
“I can’t believe you’ve been so nice to me,” you blurted out. It had been on your mind since you arrived here, and while you didn’t mean to bring it up so abruptly, you couldn’t hold it in anymore. It puzzled you as to why this man- let alone this planet, would help you to this extent. To question it seemed to be looking a gift horse in the mouth, but the nagging in your brain burst through. “It scared me at first. I thought maybe it came with a price. It was hard for me to believe that people really- well, cared.”
“From what you’ve told me, I can understand why you’d think that. And I don’t want to lie to you, at first my intentions weren’t… something you might approve of.” Cecil leaned back in his chair. “Fix up an alien who might have useful abilities, and have them join the Guardians. Or just have you help on your own. I feel guilty about it now that I’ve gotten to know you, but my job, the world, came first. If I had an asset in my debt, it could mean saving lives.” He cast his eyes down guiltily, unable to look at you. “That’s why I didn’t want to get any closer to you, I felt horrible.”
You swallowed hard, anger flickering to life in your chest. His words were like a knife to the heart. “I was wrong about you.” You murmured in disbelief. “I’m so stupid.” Part of you knew it was ridiculous to have convinced yourself of anything else. Of course that was the goal. You were a stranger to this world, why else would they help you? This world had no obligation to you, and yet it hurt so bad when it was said aloud.
Cecil’s head snapped toward you, true panic etching his features. “I don’t— I don’t think that way anymore. I would never— I wouldn’t of forced you to-”
“How dare you!” You snarled, bolting up from your seat. Flashes of your past raced through your mind, an uncontrollable hurricane of hurt and trauma wiping away anything but fury. “I trusted you, and you wanted to use me?”
“No!” Cecil also stood, gently reaching his hand towards you. You shoved it away, tears starting to stream down your flushed face.
“You told me I’m not an object, you told me that!” Your voice was raising by the word, now a shout. An uncontrollable tremor shook through you. It felt awful to yell, and your mind was screaming for you to stop, but spite and a rising anxiety spurred you on.
“And I meant it, every word.” Cecil talked softly, but his voice trembled. “I wouldn’t dream of using any of that against you. That wasn't what I wanted to do, I swear. The more I learned about you, the more I couldn’t stop thinking about you. In-in a good way- ugh, this sounds terrible.” He rubbed his forehead, looking frustrated with himself. “If I’d known about your past from the start I wouldn’t have even thought that way. It was wrong, and I’m so sorry.” His distraught eyes searched yours. “I didn’t want to hurt you, I would never want to hurt you.”
Taking deep breaths, you tried to calm yourself. Your thoughts were still raging with painful memories, the hurt in your chest throbbing hotly, but you forced yourself to think straight. “You really mean that?”
“Of course.” He took a small step towards you. “Thinking about not having you in my life; it tore me up to no end. As hard as I’ve made it to believe, I just- I really like you.” He cringed to himself. “I’m horrible with words- I’m sorry, that sounded like a highschool confession. What I’m trying to say is: you make me feel normal, like a person with no responsibilities. When I’m with you it feels like—like all I have to do is just enjoy being alive.”
All you could do was stare in silence for a while. Conflicting feelings warred through you. This normally cold, steely man looked utterly heartbroken at the thought of hurting you. In the time you’d known Cecil, it wasn’t hard to figure out that the man had a guard. You had seen brief, genuine glimpses into him and relished every moment, but now was more than just a mere glimpse. His features were soft, his posture as harmless and open as he could manage. It was a first to see him this way, and it was because he was truly worried about you.
The previous years of being imprisoned were not easy to erase, to say the least. Your captor wouldn’t hit you per say, but directed his savagery to your brother. He knew you’d heal the poor young boy, so he maliciously manipulated you into transferring the wounds to yourself. It wasn’t something you wanted to talk about at length, at least not now. You’d told Cecil a little but the details seemed too hard to choke out. It seemed silly to think, as it was a horrendous thing for anyone to go through, but you didn’t know how much it had really, truly affected you until now. Sadness radiated through you; had you really become so broken? Had your captor stolen away your trust?
Cecil cast his gaze downward, breathing in deeply. “You have every right to hate me. I hate me too. It was out of line.” You stepped closer, hesitating for only a moment before slowly encircling your arms around him. His back stiffened at first, unsure of your touch, then he wrapped you up tightly. The anger in your body melted away.
“I believe you, and I forgive you.” You mumbled into his chest, relaxing against him. “I’m sorry. Just— so much of the pain in my past centers around being controlled and used. I’ve never come to terms with the trauma that was caused.”
“You have nothing to apologize for.” He rubbed your head tenderly. Suddenly his eyes flicked past you, and his expression shifted. Confused, you followed his gaze and found a gaggle of cafeteria workers gaping at the two of you. Suddenly sheepish, you broke away from Cecil and shuffled towards the counter, grabbing the food and thanking them before slipping into a secluded part of the far hallway, out of sight.
Cecil joined you a second later. “Don’t worry about them. I’ll have a word.” He motioned for you to start walking, to which he joined next to you. “I’m sorry I haven’t been around much. I’ll make some time for us to talk properly, without anyone staring at us.”
“You’re busy, I understand.” You looked to the side, feeling a bit awkward. “I’m-I’m sorry for yelling, really. I should’ve handled that better.”
“You had an appropriate reaction to someone telling you ‘I was going to indebt you to me secretly’, I think.” Cecil responded, to which you have an uncomfortable chuckle. There was a silence for a moment before he continued. “I will do things to protect this planet that you might not like. I need you to know that. If we want to continue our relationship that’s… something that will need to be addressed.”
“We’ll talk about it.” You responded. “There are things I need you to know as well. And, um, do you offer therapy here, by chance?”
“Of course.” Cecil shoved his hands in his pockets. “If that’s something you’d like to start, we can make that happen. And don’t worry, our psychiatric medicine is some of the best, and trained to deal with more unnatural situations. They provide services to heros, after all.”
“Thank you.” You gave him a smile. “I think it would be great to get some of this off my chest. And learn how to handle it better.”
“I’ve had to do some in my time here, for sure.” Cecil gave you a sidelong glance. “It’s nothing to be ashamed about. I’m proud of you for taking that step. It’s a hard one.”
“Thank you, Cecil.” You both had come to Alana’s room.
Stopping outside the door, Cecil turned to you. “Here.” He placed a square device on the tray of food in your hands. “This is a phone, it’ll allow us to get in contact easier. It’s not the fanciest thing but it’ll do the trick.” He nodded towards the room containing Holly and Alana. “They can teach you to use it, it’s not too hard. I’ll be in touch, rookie.”
In a blazing flash of light Cecil vanished through his teleporter. At first it had startled you, but you’d gotten used to the bright assault to your eyes. You opened the door in front of you and stepped into the room, the smiling faces of Alana and Holly greeting you. “Hey!” You blurted out. “I’m going to therapy!”

Author’s Note:
Hello everyone! I wanted to clarify that the reader of this story has a lot of emotional and mental stuff to heal, so the reader often thinks in a self depreciative way. Everyone deserves to love themselves and I do not want anyone to think that you deserve less or are “broken” because you are traumatized. I have PTSD myself, and I hope I wrote it in a way that can explain that it’s not always easy to think highly of yourself or express your emotions when you’ve been traumatized. I am indeed having the reader go into therapy to learn how to heal from these past traumas. Therapy is great and I really suggest everyone go into therapy, even if you’re not mentally ill. It’s a benefit to everyone!
Disclaimer:
I try to be as accurate as possible to the source material for this fan fiction, but at times I’ll get it wrong. The timelines for the Guardians of the Globe as well as Cecil are not as accurate as they should be but for the sake of wanting to have all the characters in here I fudged it. Just know that I understand not everything is accurate but let’s just try to have a good time regardless!

I'm just saying that if the Guardians of the Globe really wanted to help society then they wouldn't have gotten their asses demolished by Omni man 🤷🏾‍♀️

Author’s highlight (author’s favorite part/ part they liked writing the most or found most entertaining):
Third to greet him was the War Woman. Now with her, Mark gawked in admiration. He only recognized her after she put her glasses on and it clicked in Mark who she was. So used to seeing her in business attire almost every time he interacted with her, it was a whole new light seeing the tall woman in armor. When Holly taught him how to braid hair and allowed him to practice on her, he had an eerie feeling that she reminded him of someone popular, and now, he understands why. A woman in a grey dress and black blazer next to Holly approached them. Holly introduced the woman to Mark as her wife, Connie. Connie teased Mark as she playfully pinched his cheek, “Welcome to the inner circle.”
Unable to wait any longer, before Holly could lend Mark her mace, Red Rush speeded to them. Mark can recognize his Uncle Josef’s voice anywhere. The birthday boy grinned at the speedster clad in crimson, pointing out that his red shades were cool. Josef laughed at his nephew’s sudden bashfulness now that he knew about his aunts and uncles’ hero identities.
