I SAW THIS!! 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 I also saw her liking comments about getting her kids away from Gleb’s “half naked” girlfriend. She is really giving a master class on what not to do as a co parent. Sad thing is it’s her girls who get hurt. The older one is getting old enough to realize all of this soon. Sad sad. Makes me grateful for the way my parents went about their divorce. I have no idea their actual opinions on each other during the time, but they vocally only said positive things to me and my siblings about the other.
When I was getting divorced one of my coworkers gave me the most valuable advice that I give to everyone now. NEVER speak ill of your child’s other parent. It only breeds resentment towards you. As hard as it is to hear your child praise the dead beat like the sun shines out of their ass, let them. Agree with them. Continue to be ok with your child telling you the things their other parent says about you. They’ll figure it out for themselves. And if your co-parent is wonderful, you’re so lucky.

Dancing with the Stars Season 31 Week 9: We Better Not Start with This BS
So, can we have an honest conversation? Let's sit and talk. I'm not dragging anyone (well that's not my intent), but we need to discuss some things. *pulls mic closer* Why are the judges acting like Gabby is on the same level as Charli and above Wayne? Watch all three of their pasos again. Charli was the best and was flawless. Wayne was next with a solid dance with very minimal mistakes. And then you have Gabby. Her legs were not good y'all, I'm sorry. Look, I don't dislike Gabby. She's actually grown on me. And Val has been tolerable and even fun this year. None of that has anything to do with my issues. I wanna know why she's getting a perfect 80? No one deserved an 80 this week as they all had noticeable issues with at least one dance. But why are we giving people (specifically Val's partners) perfect nights for essentially showing up and not falling over? It's annoying and I promise I'm over it. So we have two potential situations that would call for the judges to score like that either Gabby, like Charli, needed some extra points to keep her out of the bottom 3 or the judges are trying to sink Wayne in the last minute. Regardless of their reasoning, the judges are playing a dangerous game and they're lucky that Wayne is getting actual votes. The fans also aren't stupid and know when the judges are trying to pull a fast one. I think the fans clocked this, especially with Witney so clearly seeing what was happening during the critiques for the VWaltz as well (she's also no stranger to this). So that's where I'm at. I'm going to go ahead and rank the stars based on my enjoyment of them on Monday night. That doesn't mean that's where I think they'll finish. I'll let you know that in each little blurb I write.
Wayne and Witney- These two I felt were the best of the night. I think Wayne's paso was very good. He was a little unstable on his feet and I felt like he could've pushed the shaping and his lines just a bit more. I loved the story and the choreo. As for the Viennese waltz, it was actually my favorite dance of the night and should've been a perfect score. The men nitpicked that dance to hell and I cannot believe what they were saying. I mean I could, but it was such a joke. Also, some of you need to make your way to the front of the class. Now that Witney has revealed that she is pregnant, can you all stop assuming that she and Wayne hate each other? Please. For next week, I do still think they have the edge over Gabby. I think his fanbase lines up with the audience better, he's likable, he's a good dancer, people are starting to see the man behind the curtain and Witney is pregnant. I don't think it's in the bag, but if the judges score Wayne, Gabby and Charli the same or within 1 point of each other, I can see them winning.
Shangela and Gleb- Shangela has done what I thought was impossible, and made Gleb a decent pro. His choreography has been the best I've ever seen from him. He's teaching Shangela. He's let loose. He is fun. He looks like he's having fun, it's all great. I loved their paso. I especially really enjoyed the solo. I thought that was great. Unfortunately there were a lot of mistakes, so it couldn't be perfect (we need to go back to the celebs all having to do 2 full length individual routines by the quarter finals at the very latest so that the issues of having to learn two dances in one week are ironed out). Their Viennese waltz was my second favorite dance of the night. It still had mistakes, but I truly loved all of it. Unfortunately, I think can only hope for a 3rd place finish at best tomorrow. That's still amazing, but I would've loved to see them win.
Charli and Mark- Charli's second dance was flawless except for that ending. I wish Mark just ended it with a pose like they typically do instead of that weird running away thing. The first dance was where I saw issues. For one, Charli's head got out of alignment. She was sticking it out in an awkward way. She also had a couple of leg issues where she stumbled just a little bit. It's not a huge deal, but for someone like Charli, it was pretty noticeable. I think they're in a race for 3rd with Shangela. I just don't feel like she's getting the votes like that. And considering the fact that we'll end up seeing three 80s on Monday night (and Shangela pretty close with a 76/77), she cannot rely on her score to pull her through too much.
Gabby and Val- I thought their waltz was nice. It wasn't anything spectacular. But it was decent and solid. It was a 36/37 type of routine. As for that paso, I already talked about it at length. But just know that I think they should've seen at least one 8 for that dance. Her legs were a mess to me. Which is unfortunate, because it was my favorite performance from her all season. I think she'll be in the top 2 with Wayne, but I just don't think she has the fan power to overtake him if they're tied at the end of the night.
Daniel and Britt- I am sad that these two left. But I felt like the show kinda made sure they fell into the bottom 3. I think his Viennese waltz was nice for the most part. He struggled with the fluidity of it, for sure. But it wasn't much different from how he did last week. As for their samba, yeah. It's unfortunate that they got saddled with this dance on this particular week. Daniel did the best he could and handled some parts very well. But the majority of the dance was really not good. They had a good run and I really wanted to see their freestyle. I had been told that Cheryl was really looking forward to that. It's a bummer they won't do it on the show. But maybe he'll go on tour so Britt can choreograph it and perform it on tour. And then maybe one of the fans will record it and I can watch on ig or twitter or something lol.
Trevor and Emma- Are any of us really surprised. Trevor has been one of the luckiest contestants I think I've seen. And he never wasted a single extra week that he was given. I thought his cha cha was not great. His Viennese waltz however was my favorite dance of his this season. They had a good run and they should be proud of what they accomplished and how far they went.
So that's it. Let me know your thoughts and I will talk to you all, if not in my inbox, then next week after the finale.

drabble: office hot gossip  Author’s note: yeah there is legit no point here other than me indulging in liesel dealing with office gossip in the Leningrad office.
LENINGRAD, RUSSIA : circa 1927
"what is it this time?"
because there was a particular group of workers who gathered in the small kitchenette, beside the samovar as hot tea was sipped at and equally hot gossip. liesel preferred not to get involved with office gossip, but sometimes one couldn't help but get involved or overhear the occasional salacious piece...besides it was a little interesting.
"we were just discussing how lucky we are to work in an office with such handsome men dedicated to their country." alisa smirked as she delicately sipped at her tea.
alisa fedorova was perhaps, by most standards, the prettiest of the office girls and she wielded her rank with terrifying ease. the only one who didn't shrink at the girl's ferocity was samara bazhenov, who was a middle aged terror and dragon in her own right nearly ruling the office with as much a steely fist as gorlinsky himself. there was a small betting pool on who would win in a battle of intimidation (her bet was on comrade bazhenov.)
lips pressed into line, hinting at frown though olive green eyes twinkled slightly in amusement. of course, that was the topic of the hour. she had already heard a few of her closer friends remark on it and now it seemed like it had turned into an official topic. she tried to ignore it as best she could considering that her half brother was in the list of handsome desirable officers. "well...i can't argue that." she conceded knowing better than to speak any other way considering she didn't want the office secretarial pool turning on her for being less than social.
"General Baranov has been keeping up with his physique as much as Vaganov and Essen, you know." Liese tried not to flinch at the reference of names she considered friends. Anton Baranov had become a dear friend as of late and yes, like the other office girls, she had noticed his sharp frame. Major Essen had become like a brother now and General Vaganov …Gleb …well she kept her eyes focused on making her tea as she swallowed carefully.
"Of course, our officers have to remain fit for duty." She remarked lightly now keeping her back turned on Alisa's prying eyes and thanked god when she felt that thorny gaze disappear off her back. unfortunately, that gaze turned to a weaker prey at her side. Poor Misha. She was the most unfit girl for office work. Shy, timid and utterly affected by those around her at the slightest teasing; her only saving grace being that samara bazhenov had taken a liking to the dandelion like girl as a daughter or a niece and kept her under her dragon's wing protection.
"what do you make of our officers, misha?" alisa hummed watching the mousy girl stop digging into her biscuit tin for a bite to eat and freeze under the gaze of the six women in the small kitchen. "who do you think is one of our more handsome men, hm?"
gaping slightly, a fish out of water, misha set her biscuit down and glanced around anxiously before stammering out quietly. "i-i don't know....captain mikahilov is very kind and-and handsome i think-"
"oh please- mikhailov doesn't count." alisa hissed in return, startling misha back against the cabinets while clutching her tin as she tried to figure out what she said wrong. which was why liesel's eyes narrowed faintly, catching the venom in the other girl's tone and the thick tension that sat in the room as the other women shifted uncomfortable.
"and why is that?" liesel managed out as she gently stirred her cup while wondering if her guess was close as to why.
"he's diseased, obviously." the blonde hissed and in turn liesel flinched at the hatred unleashed in her words. "he's with that street walking whore. anything handsome about him is clearly gone-"
"she does have a name. natasha is a lovely woman." liesel retorted evenly in return as she carefully stepped around the girls sitting grouped around the table. natasha was friendly, clever and sharp, but no matter her profession she was still a person and no matter who luka mikhailov chose to see deserved respect. and in turn respect to him. he was the little brother she wished she had, but that also left her irritated at the animosity flooding from alisa. her guess as to why had been correct. she was still stinging from mikahilov's rejection. " and captain mikahilov is one of the BEST men in leningrad. there isn't any officer in this building who wouldn't serve with him."
not to mention it was dangerous to let loose lips slip about mikahilov because of General Vaganov's favor of the boy. not that alisa wasn't aware of such a thing. other than liesel it was alisa who kept tabs on everything that gleb vaganov did, said and looked. liesel was just glad that alisa had yet to pick anymore on how she felt about the general, but then again he was the most difficult man in the building to get to know other than gorlinsky...and perhaps her own brother. which unfortunately was the next topic of choice. "right, well, i still wouldn't put him in the ranks of vaganov, baranov or even ivanov."
liesel could feel the ice sliding down her spine at the light smirking tone. "so tell us, liesel, what is your brother up to, hm? any special women or men in his life?"
"aside from russia? no." she replied sharply at alisa's jab as she glanced to the ground briefly noting alisa's long skirt splayed on the ground. a thought came to mind and she mused on it for a moment before edging closer to another girl sitting on a stool in turn scooted closer to alisa as the foot of the stool sat on the edge of the skirt. "my brother is focused on his work and is just as interested in the role of deputy commissioner as general baranov and vaganov."
alisa smiled sweetly. "we're all very curious to see who will win that seat. the office will certainly change. positions shifting amongst the secretarial pool."
it felt traitorous to say, but the words spilled out anyway as liesel spoke coolly, utterly confident in her belief. "i'm sure general vaganov will be a great deputy commissioner. he's the obvious and better choice." eyes narrowed briefly at alisa. "besides even if my brother did get the role i know he'd be even more dedicated to his position than to anything or anyone. for that matter- he's not the romantic he looks to be."
and like an answer from God himself did samara bazhenov stride in looking in a dark mood as the entire group sat up straighter and made a point of finishing up their tea.
"private fedorova, commissioner kozlov needs you in his office immediately." bazhenov hissed as alisa leapt to her feet at the order while the sound of fabric ripped loudly in the room. the dark green skirt of alisa's, caught on the stool had ripped half way up to her thigh drawing a horrified shriek and a glare from bazhenov.
another delay, another order and situation to figure out. "go home and change, private fedorova." private bazhenov glowered as alisa fumbled to make herself decent before turning to liesel. "see to commissioner kozlov's orders, private ivanov and bring the paperwork to me since some girls can't be aware of their surroundings. afterwards general vaganov will be needing your assistance with a ceremony next week."
"yes, of course, comrade bazhenov. i'll go see to that." she managed out quickly as misha reached to take her tea cup for her allowing her to hurry out of the kitchen before a smile gave her away.

September 1st
First day of school! Nothing too interesting. They play those soviet hymns in the morning, which is good, I guess. Makes me feel like I didn't miss out on 16 years and USSR breaking up. Very loud and persistent, though. But i like it. Reminds of my pioneer days, and the summer camps.. Went to work out in the morning with Seva and Edik. Seva almost died from strain XD
Carrie got sick and stayed in her room all day. There were no lessions anyway, just games for the whole school.
When we sat in class for organization, that kazakh girl, Altyn, told me some rumors about Goar. Apparently, she's having issues with her fiancé. Useful information, I guess it's good to know someone *that* involved in gossip.
Teamed up with Sonya and his brother (?) for that. Technically, you're supposed to team up with your parents, but there was no way they'd show up. Guess I'm lucky Sonya's parents were also busy. Does he even have them? I bet he has like, 20 sibilings.
Made Azovka bring some candy from the games to Carrie. She better appreciate that.
September 2nd
First lessons today. Just math and russian, nothing much. Altyn got even more info today: apparently, Goar and her fiance from out of town had a falling out, and he asked for the proposal ring back, but she doesn't have it?
Seva got threatened by that asshole in our class. He's a friend of Seva's 'worst enemy', which is just some gopnik kid, Gleb. Seva used magic on him and they've been trying to avenge him since. That kid is crazy. Apparently he learned magic. Idk how, I just kinda do it, and he has some specific ass rituals to do it.
Mila caught a dust spirit and brought it to lunch. Kind of gross, this ball of dust in the middle of the cafeteria.
Carrie's still sick. Went to bring her some food after class, ran into Altyn again. She's pretty, but totally has nothing on her mind besides gossip.
When i went back to our dorm, Seva was screaming about some crazy shit. Turns out me, him and Edik had the same dream about a chained-up old lady for the last two days. One chain link breaking every night. Definitely weird, but Seva went paranoid with analyzing it. World ending and shit. Maybe we should look into that. 10 more chain links- something's going down on the 12th.
After Seva managed to chill he told us it's his birthday. Edik and I practically dragged him to a bakery to get a cake, brought Mila and Sonya with us. The bakery's run by Mila's aunt. Bought a whole carrot cake. Then we headed back to school, but that's a 30-minute walk across the whole city. So we run into Gleb's gang on our way back. What a coincidence! Gleb tried to threaten us, and Seva told him to fuck off. Nice. Before they tried to fight, I used my magic charms. Didn't work on Gleb, but worked on his girl. Then something weird happened. Gleb's friend punched him, and they got really crazy, so we just kinda ran away to not deal with them. Grabbed Gleb's girl while we were running. Her name's Taya. Stopped by the train station and ate cake there. Even Taya got a piece- we talked a little bit. Sonya traded some cake for beer from a homeless guy. We hung out until sundown. Beer's gross, but Taya was drinking it, so I did too...
I left the others to walk her home, cause it was getting late. I mean, I doubt she'd get into any trouble, she seems strong and like she doesn't take any shit. Very much a gopnik, but there's something about her... It's strange how a trashy girl that drinks beer and wears adidas tracksuits acts so shy when I compliment her. That's what it is. I kissed her on the cheek before she left. Don't know why. Seemed like a right thing to do.

#DANCING WITH THE STARS FINALE PRO#
Dawson’s Creek star James Van Der Beek and his pro partner Emma Slater weren’t so lucky. Luckily for Alaina and Savchenko, they received enough votes to keep them from entering the bottom two. Before the mirrorball is handed out, Alek Skarlatos and Lindsay Arnold, Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough, Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson, and Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess have one last night of competitive dancing, fighting to win the judges’ and America’s votes to be crowned this season's Dancing with the Stars. It's finale time After weeks of competitive dancing, the final four couples advance to the Finals of Dancing with the Stars Season 21 this MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23 87c on ABC. You look terrific!” Goodman said after the performance. I like those elements of a Slow Waltz that you put in, as well as the Viennese Waltz. She and Savchenko turned out an impressive Viennese Waltz to Tim McGraw’s “Humble and Kind.” Alaina, who wore a flowy, pink gown for the dance, dedicated the couple’s beautiful routine to her parents, who she said sacrificed so much for her throughout her life. Well done!”įor the second dance of the evening, Alaina stayed true to her roots. “I asked you to give me more shaping, and I saw that throughout the dance. I love to see that.” Goodman applauded of the dance. “It had a lovely mix of expression and aggression. On the floor, they incorporated plenty of twists and turns into their theatrical routine, which earned them a higher than average score of 27/30 from the judging panel. Before the routine, Alaina and Savchenko received some advice from judge Len Goodman, who told them he’d be looking for strong shaping and traditional choreography.Īlaina and Savchenko didn’t disappoint. The first half of the two-hour episode saw challengers taking part in the “Redemption Round” – a round that gave each contestant an opportunity to improve on their lowest scoring dance-style of the season.įirst up was country contender Lauren Alaina, who performed a Paso Doble set to Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger” alongside pro partner Gleb Savchenko. 18) to deliver two dances as part of the grueling semi-finals of the latest season of Dancing with the Stars. Welcome to Season 31 of Dancing With the Stars!
As most of you know, the show has moved to Disney+ and still streams live on Mondays from 8PM to 10PM. Some things are different and some things are the same. I'll write a separate post with my thoughts on the changes so this doesn't get too long. After all, it's night one and we have the full roster of 16 couples to evaluate!
(Sorry for the delay. I was traveling back from California on the 19th and didn’t get a chance to watch it before I marathoned both the premiere and the second episode on the 26th).
For the premiere, the contestants were asked to pick a song that always makes them dance and they delivered!
Jason and Peta: Poor Jason. It's always tough being the first one kicked off. Was his dance the worst of the night? No. But it wasn't the best. And clearly he didn't have the votes. So hopefully his cha-cha to "Get Lucky" still gave him some skills he can use for his first dance at his upcoming wedding and we'll see him again in the finale.
Charli and Mark: TikTok is one of the few social media platforms I am not on and I really have no interest in getting on it. But I am still familiar with Charli and her family so I'm not too lost. She seems likeable enough so it's easy to see why people follow her on TikTok. Charli was nervous because she got well known for doing the dance challenges that are prolific on TikTok but she handled the cha-cha to "Savage" by Megan Thee Stallion very well. She is already one of the strongest dancers there. And she's paired with Mark, who is back after an absence (and I did not his last partner, Lindsey Sterling, was in the audience), so I think with him, she definitely could take the Mirrorball Trophy.
Wayne and Witney: Wayne has turned down offers to do the show in the past but said he was ready now because he lost his grandmother and this was her favorite show. So he's doing it in her honor and you saw how he choked up when talking about her. Wayne is well paired with Witney, who is back after giving birth, and he nailed his cha-cha to "She's a Bad Mama Jama (She's Built, She's Stacked)." He and Charli are early competition and he's the best of the men. Hopefully he can keep this going and doesn't flame out like we've seen other frontrunners do in the past.
Gabby and Val: Gabby continues the tradition of Bachelorettes being good in the ballroom. I'm not a big fan of her interviews - I don't know if she's nervous or just overly trained on soundbites, but it feels stiff and not very genuine. But she did very well with her jive to Harry Style's "As It Was" and she works well with Val, so I think she could go very far - Bachelor Nation is very strong and she has the dance skills to back it up.
Selma and Sasha: Selma has probably the most inspiring story in the ballroom this season. If you didn't know, Selma was diagnosed with MS a few years ago and struggles with control over her body. She does walk with a cane and appears to bring a service dog with her to rehearsal. Sasha says they are neighbors and so he seems very familiar with her limitations so he knows how to choreograph for her. The moment where she let go of her cane before dancing her Viennese waltz to "Time of My Life" made me choke up so I'm not surprised Carrie Ann cried during judging. Despite her limitations - or maybe in spite of them - Selma moved gracefully across the floor and danced beautifully. I think she could win if her body doesn't turn against her.
Shangela and Gleb: Shangela is fabulous! I love her energy and her enthusiasm! She is also a delight to watch on the floor and is a very strong contender. Salsa is hard to do but she managed well for week 1 - and "When I Grow Up" was the perfect choice. I can't wait to see what else she and Gleb do as the first male/male team and with her as the first drag queen performer! (Note: Shangela does use she/her pronouns. When not in the makeup, Darius uses he/him pronouns. I am respecting the pronoun choices and will use "she/her" when discussing performances and "he/him" when discussing rehearsals).
Daniel and Britt: Daniel is deaf so Britt has to learn how to best communicate with him. She's already started to learn some sign language so it seems they are off to a good start. He picks "Barbra Streisand," explaining that while he can't hear the music, he can feel it and he loved the feel of this song. It powers his tango and he certainly has a presence on the dance floor. I think he needs to work on his frame more but he could certainly make it very far in this competition. Nyle ultimately won and I think Daniel could follow in his footsteps.
Jordin and Brandon: Jordin kicked off Season 31 with the first dance of the night. She performed a cha-cha to the Whitney Huston classic "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" and Tyra was right - she definitely made Whitney proud. Jordin talked about working with Whitney and it was clear she had a good relationship with the late singer. She has a great personality and some good moves, so I think Jordin will be around for a long time this season.
Heidi and Artem: Heidi was a bit nervous but she performed a pretty good cha-cha for someone with no dance experience on Week 1. And having "Lady Marmalade" playing certainly helped. She has a great attitude and seems ready to put in the work. So I think she'll make it a few more weeks but will likely end up watching her daughter possibly take the mirrorball trophy.
Joseph and Daniella: Joseph handled his jive to "Pump It" with Daniella well. She is the reigning champ and so I think Joseph is in good hands. I just hope she doesn't rely on tricks again like she did with Iman. Once she let him dance, he really shone and I think the same could be true with Joseph, once he nails his frame. And maybe his feet.
Cheryl and Louis: Welcome back, Louis! I've missed him. He's very good with Cheryl, who dances a wonderful cha-cha to "Gotta Give it Up." So much so, the judges are convinced she could do a lot more than what Louis gave her and I think they might be right. Cheryl is proving that age is just a number, even in the ballroom.
Trevor and Emma: Trevor is actually afraid of dancing. Like you can see the fear in his eyes as Emma teaches him how to dance the quickstep. But she's patient with him and it pays off. When Trevor hits the ballroom to "Dancing With Myself," there's not a trace of fear in his eyes. He handles it well enough and shows promise to grow. I think I'm going to like his partnership with Emma.
Jessie and Alan: Jessie was a bit of a mess this week in her cha-cha to "Sweet Home Alabama" but it's Week 1. Everyone is allowed to be a mess on Week 1. She is worried about doing everything all at once and I think she needs to stop stretching herself thin. There was a good quote I read about juggling balls and being okay with dropping them - you just needed to know which ones were glass and which ones were plastic, meaning which ones you really couldn't drop and which ones you could. I think once she gives herself permission to maybe not do everything she normally does for a few weeks, she'll find that she's putting too much pressure on herself and everything will be fine if she isn't doing everything always.
Sam and Cheryl: Sam Champion is a familiar face to me as a native New Yorker. I've seen on ABC for years, though I do prefer the news on my local CBS station. He has a good spirit even if he's already a bit injury prone. But he and Cheryl work well together. His quickstep to "Hold Me Closer" by Britney Spears and Elton John could've been a bit faster and sharper but again, it was a great first attempt. I look forward to seeing more from him in the coming weeks.
Teresa and Pasha: Of course Teresa had to flip a table. It's like DWTS law that you have to work in whatever you are most well-known for at least once. She seems pretty game for the show and she was about the same as some other contestants, though she did struggle with the tango to "We Found Love." But I think she has the determination to get better. She just needs the chance.
Vinny and Koko: Poor Vinny. He really did try but the salsa got away from him. He needs a little less "in the club" and a lot more "in the ballroom." I do like Koko, who is a new pro this year, and think she can help him. And he was safe despite having the lowest score this week so there are people rooting for him. I don't know if he has what it takes to make it all the way to the mirrorball but I have a feeling he'll be around for a few more weeks. (PS: His song choice was "Titi Me Prejunto").
Next time: It’s Elvis week!

So I recently got to see the Anastasia tour (!!!!). I’m so glad I was able to because as most of you know it was my entire personality from November 2020 to January 2021 (and currently it is again). Everyone was absolutely incredible and I was left breathless after every performance. I was also lucky to have the seats I did, which were on the floor, only like 9 rows back, and in the CENTER. Whenever someone was in the middle of the stage and looking out, it looked like they were looking at me. I could see every expression. It was unbelievable. Anyway, some notes I have from the show (below a cut bc I can't shut up):
Prologue
Marley Sofia was on for little Anastasia/Alexei and she was absolutely precious.
I don’t have a ton of notes here other than WHAT A PERFORMANCE.
During the Last Dance of the Romanovs I was waiting at the edge of my seat for Alexei to come on (If you’re unaware—I adopted musical Alexei over a year ago).
The COSTUMES in this show>>>>
I’ve said it before I’ll keep saying it: Anastasia should have won the Tony for best costuming!!!! like come ON
The lighting in this scene was incredible. It was amazing what they could do with just the screens in the arcs. And the way it went from the whites and soft colors to BOOM. RED.
I guess I did have a lot of notes on this scene
Rumor in St. Petersburg
It took me a little bit to get used to Brandon Gleb’s speaking voice. I liked him from the start but the way he talked did take me a couple minutes to get used to.
Sam’s Dimitri just feels soft. He’s so smiley in this scene.
Bryan's Vlad (vocally at least) feels a lot rougher than John Bolton. It certainly fits him for the first act at least, but I do prefer the prettier sound of his voice in the later stuff (Meant to Be, especially)
The choreography in this scene was great. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment.
In My Dreams
The scene before Anya came in. It is honestly so personal, y’know? This Dimitri is almost always smiling, giggling and joking around, more than any other one I’ve seen.
Oh plus that costume?? With the red shirt?? tbh it’s one of my favorite costumes in the show (gender)
When Anya came in…
Kyla Stone was the only cast member that I’d done research on before the show. She was the one I was most looking forward to.
And she did not disappoint.
I don’t want to compare the tour cast to the obc that much just because they’re different and different levels, but I’m gonna do it a bit.
I think I might have preferred Kyla’s In My Dreams to Christy’s. Maybe it was the live aspect that influenced it a lot, but still (stiiiiiill).
Anyway I am a Kyla Stone fan first and human second.
The Rumors Never End
Brandon didn’t have the same presence as Ramin did, so he actually had to work to make Gleb an imposing character. Ramin could just do it naturally, but Brandon had to (and did) work to make his character that way.
And let me tell you, I was NOT prepared for his singing voice. Man. It was pretty different from his speaking voice, but it was absolutely incredible. Like I cannot get over his singing voice.
Learn to Do It
They are all so precious. Like I cannot even believe.
The dancing sequence was unparalleled.
When Dimitri stepped on Anya’s feet the entire theatre gasped, and there was a few seconds in there that I think Dimitri might have actually been fearing for his life.
Then when Anya stepped on his feet… Kyla laughed for at least 2 minutes. It was incredible.
I adore this entire scene you don’t even know.
The Neva Flows
Again… Brandon’s voice…
I liked this Gleb before (I liked him from the start) but these scene was when I really started to adore him. The way he performed was indescribable.
I also always forget that Anya joins in singing the song for a bit. When Kyla did it she looked super nervous about it, quickly standing up when she started singing.
My Petersburg
(I’m listening to the song while typing this out <3)
The scene before when Anya goes ballistic in driving out the men in that area… incredible.
Like GO OFF Kyla. and Dimitri looked genuinely terrified of her after it.
My Petersburg is one of my favorite songs in the show.
I loved Sam’s Dimitri before this but this song was where it turned from love to adoration.
He was moving around so much while singing. Like he took up the entire stage. He just seemed super energetic.
I also forget that Anya sings with Dimitri in this one. WHY isn’t that in the obc recording???
I love their interaction after the song. They are so cute. When he gives her the music box… the way he said ‘it’s broken’
Once Upon a December
The staging and lighting of this number is unmatched. And the way Kyla sang it was just *chefs kiss*
And the bit after… oh man.
Dimitri looked and sounded like he hated to tell Anya that they weren’t even close to going. He looked heartbroken, like he hated to let her down like that.
And then his reaction to Anya telling him to close his eyes and hold his hand out. He was so salty about it.
Then when he saw the diamond??? The spin???? I adore them.
The bit where he gets excited about sleeping in a hotel and getting to use a bathtub… he is so precious.
Stay I Pray You
The line ‘he’s a dead man on both counts’ felt more serious than in obc. maybe it was just the crowd, though. like there were still laughs but it all felt more tense.
Christian McQueen’s voice in Stay I Pray You is unmatched. Truly.
I didn’t love how rubato he was in the beginning (it stressed me out as someone who’s played in a pit before. technically there’s no instrumental there but just the way it was taken would make me worry about actually coming in on time)
Once other people/the pit came in, it really was just perfection.
This song shows what a cellos is meant to sound like. really. It’s the kind of cello sound that makes someone want to learn cello (me, I’m the someone)
This song is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
The moment at the end of the song when only Anya and Ipolitov are onstage? it can be so personal
We’ll Go From There
They didn’t have the train car. I was a bit disappointed at first (thought it makes sense that they wouldn’t have one), but they did use the stage a bit better and they played it all really well.
and yeah. come on dude. how dare you smoke in her presence??? should have known better, man.
There was a moment that they added bc they had to redo staging. While Anya’s singing her part she’s moving through people, then she trips, Dimitri catches her and they stare into each other’s eyes for a second, singing ‘This chance is all I’ve got’ and it really was such a good choice.
In the end part they were looking at each other from across the ‘train car’ (people sitting on their suitcases in a group on the stage).
Traveling Sequence
I always forget how much I adore it.
Gleb gets even higher in my mind.
‘The Princess Anastasia is running out of time’
the lighting/scenery here was also incredible
‘alive or dead: it’s up to you’ is something that can be so personal.
Still
His voice <3
Like, vocally it’s hard to do better than Ramin, but Brandon is right there.
The lighting in this scene is also incredible. At the end of the song it had the same background as at the end of Last Dance of the Romanovs, with Gleb & other officers standing in front of the silhouettes in the background as if it were their shadows.
Journey to the Past
The bit before it was so cute. Dimitri being in awe of her, then him and Vlad running offstage. Them calling out to her (it received a lot of laughs).
(Dimitri bounds up the hill like a young goat)
I actually had looked up a recording of Kyla’s Journey to the Past before seeing it, so I knew it’d be good.
It was even better.
Also the way that the screens in the background move from the trees, up to showing Paris as she’s holding the last note? genius
Act 2 notes will be coming soon bc this is already super long and I wanted to split it up
