Eyes and Toes
This was created for the winter solstice event hosted by @vikingsevents for the prompt stargazing.
650 word drabble below the cut. No warnings apply. Pairing: Helga x Floki.
Helga shivered, pulling the fur that she and Floki shared tighter around her shoulders as they sat by the fire. On nights as chilly as this they would usually find warmth and shelter within the hut they shared together on the outskirts of Kattegat. However, tonight was the first cloudless sky they had had all winter and Floki was insistent that he wanted to look up at the stars. Ever the dutiful wife, Helga had offered to keep him company and so they had sat in comfortable silence, broken only by the occasional tittering laugh from the boat builder.
“Helga,” Floki finally whispered, not shifting his gaze from the sky, “Do you know where the stars come from?”
“They are the sparks from Muspellheim, brought by the four dwarves that hold up Ymir’s skull as the sky”, she says with a smile, hoping her answer will please her husband.
“Some of them yes, but not all of them,” He finally looks at her then, taking a lock of her long, blonde hair between his fingers and gently twirling it as he continues to speak, “Did you know that some of the stars are eyes and toes?”
Helga laughs, a quiet, dulcet tone emitted from pure amusement without the intent to mock Floki. Yet he is displeased with her mirth.
“It is not funny”, he says sulkily, letting go of her hair and looking back up at the sky.
“I would never laugh at you, Floki”, she reassures him with kindness, linking her arm through his and leaning in to his shoulder. “Tell me why there are eyes and toes in the sky.”
He rests his chin atop her head as he begins to tell the first story. “Þjazi was a jötunn and he managed to kidnap Iðunn, the keeper of the apples of youth, from Asgard. Loki managed to save her but was pursued by Þjazi, who was killed. Þjazi’s daughter Skadi came and demanded compensation for her father. Skadi was given a husband, in addition Odin placed Þjazi’s eyes in the sky.”
“Do you know which stars they are?” Helga asked, her fingers drawing lazy circles across the back of Floki’s hand.
“No, nobody does”, he replied, “But they eyes of a jötunn are always watching us.”
“And the toe?”
“Ah, yes. Thor was injured in his fight against Hrungnir, a jötunn made of stone.”
“There are a lot of giants in your stories, Floki.” Helga muses with a fond smile.
“Stop interrupting!” he scolds, though there is a playfulness to his tone and he butts the side of her head with his nose before continuing. “A small piece of stone got stuck in his head. In order to get it out, he sought help from a Völva named Groa. When Thor felt that the stone was coming out he told Groa that he helped her husband Aurvandill to escape from the land of the giants. During the escape Aurvandill froze his big toe, which Thor broke off and threw into the sky to become a star. This made Groa so happy that she forgot her magic, and Thor still has that piece of stone in his head.”
“So that is why the sky is filled with eyes and toes?” Helga asks with a wry smile.
Floki giggles. “It is.”
They lapse back into comfortable silence, cuddled against each other under their shared fur, as the fire crackles before them.
“Floki?” Helga implores, pulling away slightly to fully regard him.
“Hmmm?” he utters in reply.
“Are you happy?”
“Yes” he says, no trace of hesitation in his voice.
“You do not feel trapped?”
He pauses, considering his words carefully, before giving a truthful answer; “Sometimes, I do. But not in this moment. Right now I am just happy.”
Helga hums contentedly and leans back into his warmth before they both turn their attention back to the eyes and toes of the night sky.

timetraveling!Vikings + Christmas
Summary: how timetraveling Vikings would react to modern Christmas/what they enjoy/etc.
Tagged: @majesticwren @obsessiveformiyatwins @leithdragon @demon-of-the-ancient-world @alicedopey @ivarlover @levithestripper @batmandallyboy @akayxo09 @vrtualfairy (hmu to be added to any of my taglists!)
Masterlist | based on this request | requests are OPEN!
Ragnar
I think Ragnar likes modern christmas more than he should
He takes it like many non-christians do nowadays – fuck Christianity, i’m getting presents
Might let Athelstan drag him to church
Leaves midway tho
So bad at gift-giving that he accidentally gets you a great one
Lagertha
The BEST gift giver
Has a little table (after you show her how excel works, obvi) of the people she wants to get presents for and tracks their wishes over the course of a year
You need her at Christmas, actually
She doesn’t like the Christian part of it, but she likes the community it creates and GODDAMN Lagertha makes some good food
Athelstan
Vibes to church service HARD, even in modern times
Big enjoyer of WHAM! And Mariah Carey
Makes small, but very thoughtful gifts
Definitely always gets sick around Christmas and wears a bundle of scarves
Please don’t let him shave his head weirdly, or his brain will freeze
Bjorn
Doesn’t like Christmas
He came to the future, you have planes, let him use them
Spends his Christmas in warm places
Honestly, he might enjoy Aussie Christmas
Any excuse for beaches and bbq
Ubbe
If you want to stage a great Christmas celebration, go to Ubbe
Despite being from Viking times, he will be able to organise it better
He likes bringing people together for any occasion, and will be decorating the venue he chose like a PTA-mom with rabies (so, quintessentially, Ubbe)
Does not let snowy grounds stop him from playing football with friends/brothers
Hvitserk
LOVES Christmas
An endless supply of cookies and chocolate? Are you kidding??? The christians got something right?????
Eats everything you leave lying around
On time for everything during Christmas
Honestly, he gets hilarious gifts for everyone
Surprisingly good at singing christmas carols
Honestly, Hvitserk makes friends in all religions so his year of exquisite eating is just
Easter -> Eid -> Midsommar -> Thanksgiving -> Hannukah -> Christmas
Rinse and repeat baby
Sigurd
Spends the entire time critizising the compository value of christmas songs
Has an enemies to lovers arc with them
One day, soon after Christmas Eve, you will find a slightly drunk Sigurd in front of a karaoke machine with a thousand yard stare and the best interpretation of Last Christmas your ears will ever hear
Ivar
Christmas is a capitalist venture for the foolish designed by greedy christians
Totally does not buy super expensive gifts for his friends to brag
That Tesla outside your door? That’s not a Christmas gift silly, he’s sending you down the frozen road as a sacrifice to Odin so his bleeding ears might be saved from Sigurd
Does make an effort to put his mafia-ventures on hold for you though
He still hates Christmas
Floki
HATES CHRISTMAS. Floki hates Christmas so much. Did he already say he hates Christmas?
Hates it so much he secretly loves it.
‘Annoyed’ at Helga for baking cookies with you
‘Annoyed’ at the celebrations and people coming together
He secretly enjoys the non-Christian part of Christmas
But he just can’t get over the Jesus being born thing
Celebrates the part of Easter where he’s dead for a few days
Helga
Loves Christmas, and without shame
Turns into a cookie factory
Handmade gifts for everyone
Does a lot of charity/social work around Christmas
Enjoys ice-skating rinks as well
Tells Floki to stop moping around (he does)

Ivar's childhood was shrouded in a tapestry of dark grays and blacks, a period marked by relentless bullying, discrimination, and a stark absence of love. love. Amid this harsh environment, Aslaug, his devoted mother, stood as one of the few adults who genuinely embraced him. Yet, even her unwavering love couldn't quell the relentless growth of his simmering anger. But, within these somber times, there existed a glimmer of hope - a hope that emerged when you entered his life.
Ivar adored Floki, viewing him as his own father and protector. Whenever the cruelty of both children and adults bore down upon him, Floki served as a steadfast anchor, and so did you. Your friendship started with a shy hesitation.
Helga and Floki, your parents, had taught you to always accept others, no matter how they looked like. You watched your father engage with Ivar, teaching him the art of weaponry and regaling him with Nordic sagas. You had shared them whenever you wanted company and as a result, the two of you became friends.
As the years passed, your bond with Ivar deepened. He shielded you from any unwelcome advances, such as nasty men, while you provided solace during his most challenging moments. Together, you embarked on hunting expeditions, sharing meals at Ivar's dwelling with his family.
Fortunately, his mother held you in high regard. She possessed a strict demeanor when it came to the women who orbited around her beloved sons, yet she understood your unshakable bond with Ivar. With open arms, she welcomed you whenever you graced her home with your cherished friend.
Of course you faced discriminating comments and remarks from time to time because of Ivar, though you stayed by Ivar’s side. You were the only woman who glimpsed Ivar's vulnerabilities, the only girl who had witnessed his anguished tears and experienced the gentleness that lay beneath his hard exterior during your shared childhood.
You knew him, cherished him, and secretly, perhaps even loved him. Yet, you concealed your affections, carrying them within your heart, as your father saw you both as siblings. Sure, you grew up together and were basically one person, but you could also love him, right?
You kept your adoration hidden and you honestly were fine with it because you remained close to Ivar but you always faced struggles when a woman tried to seduce him. You were a strong and loving woman, supporting a man whom few understood or respected.
In recent years, you had devoted your time to the study of science and honed your skills as a healer. Your knowledge extended to various herbs and methods to mend any kind of injury. Ivar sought your counsel frequently, valuing the conversations you shared.
The atmosphere between you was one of relaxation, love, and kindness, something that Ivar rarely encountered in his tumultuous life. He harbored deep emotions for you, but fear held him back. Rejection had been his constant companion throughout life, even from his own father, Ragnar Lothbrok. This fear of rejection crippled him, making him hesitant to express his emotions to you.
One day, your father entered your room with an unusual expression. You initially assumed he was about to share one of Floki's eccentric ideas, as was his habit. Therefore a bright smile creeped over your lovely face, greeting your father. However, what he proposed was far from comforting; it shattered your heart in a matter of seconds.
“I've been thinking about arranging a marriage between you and Ubbe,” he said, his words falling like lead..
You raised your eyebrows, believing that he joked at first but his serious expression remained - he meant it.
“Uh, father. I don’t know if I-,” you began, only to be interrupted by his eager explanation.
“I thought you’d remain close to Ivar and find a man who truly treats you right. I know Ubbe is a good man who will respect you,” he continued.
You pondered his words briefly, acknowledging that Ubbe was a compassionate and respectful man who held women in high regard. During your childhood, you had formed a fondness for him, but it was far from romantic.
No, you truly despised the idea.
“Father, I don't wish to marry," you protested vehemently, rejecting Floki's wishes, which he met with displeasure. You couldn't fathom joining hands with a man you didn't love, especially if it were your true love's brother. The thought left you with an overwhelming sense of unease.
“Child, you've reached a point in your life where you need a man to protect you. You're all on your own, and we're concerned," he voiced his genuine worries. While you understood his concerns, this request felt like an intrusion on your own autonomy, a call you couldn't embrace. You preferred making your parents proud and being a memorable member of Kattegat, but this wasn’t your true faith.
You were bound to none other than Ivar the Boneless, a man whose depths you knew better than your own skills as a healer. As you sat there, Floki's hand swept across his weary face, his gaze avoiding yours as he delivered the unimaginable truth.
“Ubbe has asked for your hand in marriage, and we've already agreed with Aslaug. The decision has been made, my dear," he disclosed, a heavy burden of heartache settling upon you. Tears welled in your eyes, and your cheeks flushed with the ache of this revelation.
“No, Father,” you protested, your voice quivering from the shock of their decision, made without your consent.
“We only want you to be happy," Floki tried to bridge the emotional chasm, but his words fell on deaf ears. You were consumed by fury, your emotions tearing at you, digging a chasm within your heart.
“I’m not!” You cried out, finally allowing your pent-up emotions to pour forth. "I'm not happy, Father. You have a woman you love, and Mother loves you too. Why can't I?” You shouted while tears ran down your soft skin, falling onto the ground. You sobbed uncontrollably.
“No, don’t think that,” Floki tried to console you, his heart aching as he witnessed your distress. After all, you were his beloved daughter, a sweet and loving child he cherished. Right now, you feared the fatherly connection was breaking apart.
“I’m not marrying Ubbe! I’d rather die,” you declared, your voice barely a whisper but loud enough for your father to comprehend. With those words hanging heavily in the air, you rose and fled the room, leaving your father behind. As you left the building you came across Ubbe, who of course knew about the idea before you did, though you rage signalized that you weren’t enlightened.
Floki followed closely, calling your name, but your steps quickened with each utterance. Ultimately, you ran away, seeking refuge in the familiar embrace of the Kattegat forest, a place you knew intimately. You spent a lot of time in the forests and fields to collect herbs and plants, sometimes even staying overnight in summer. With your father, mother, Ubbe, and the impending marriage fading into the background, you retreated into the solitude of the woods. Little did you know your secret significant other just found out about the marriage through Sigurd.
“You’re telling me, y/n is going to marry my brother?” The crackling fire of the fireplace represented Ivar’s slight rage as he received the information.
Sigurd understood that you were Ivar's soft spot, and while he relished the opportunity to tease his brother, he also conveyed the truth. Aslaug had kept this secret from Ivar, knowing precisely what she was doing.
“Yes. Ubbe is the eldest among us brothers, so it only makes sense for him to claim one of the town's most important women, Ivar,” Sigurd explained while deftly carving a sculpture from wood.
Ivar despised the idea entirely, his lips chewed raw as he gazed out the window. It was not Ubbe's right to simply take any woman, especially not you. He believed Ubbe was not meant for your delicate being, no matter how loving, respectful, and kind he might be. At least in the eyes of the Ragnarsson, Ubbe would never be worthy.
As the evening progressed, Ubbe and Floki entered the brothers' home. Ivar remained silent, seething with anger and disappointment. However, he was not Ubbe's primary concern.
“Ubbe, she ran way. I cannot force her,” Floki implored Ubbe to reconsider.
“Floki, it’s not your fault. I love her though, and you know it. I’d treat her with everything she desires and I’ll love the children she will bear,” Ubbe explained, greeting Sigurd and Ivar with a small nod.
“You don't love her if you'll force her to marry you," Ivar's words were cold and stern, his anger barely contained.
“Excuse me?” Ubbe was taken aback by the accusation.
Finally, Ivar’s jealousy piqued and he looked up to his brother, “You heard me. She doesn’t love you. She never will!” His words struck like a shock.
Sigurd, joining the conversation, couldn't resist a taunt, “Oh, are your little feelings hurt because she won’t hop in bed with you? Poor Ivar.”
Oh, how much Ivar hated these people, these cruel brothers who always take his hope away. They rob him of his freedom, his excitement and love. They always seemed to achieve everything, while Ivar was left with nothing but solitude and heartache. As the tension simmered within the dimly lit room, Ivar's words hung heavy in the air, causing a palpable rift between the brothers.
“Ivar, you have no right to dictate her heart. She's a woman with her own choices," Ubbe retorted, his voice carrying an air of defiance.
Ivar scoffed as a response to this unsolicited statement. It wasn’t Ivar who was trying to force himself upon you, it was Ubbe. All his life Ivar did nothing to pressure you or force you to do something. You had been safe around him, no burdens dragging you down when you had spent time together.
Sigurd, needing to provoke Ivar further, leaned in with a sly smile, "Is that so, Ivar? Or are you just afraid she might choose someone else over you?"
The youngest among them decided to not react to the jokes Sigurd made as he intentionally tried to fuel Ivar’s anger. While Ivar was torn between his immense longing for you and the realization that he might never be able to offer you the love and protection you deserved, Ivar couldn't help but feel that marrying Ubbe was wrong. The young Ragnarsson decided to leave the situation, searching for you.
They didn’t, but Ivar did.
Meanwhile, you had found safety in the forest, away from the prying eyes and expectations of your family and the town of Kattegat. There, you wandered aimlessly. As you reached a small, shallow river, you placed yourself on a rock. The silence and peace gave you enough room to reflect on the horrible decision of your parents.
You couldn’t deny your love for Ivar anymore. Whenever you thought about becoming Ubbe’s wife, Ivar’s face popped up on your mind. He was the fragile yet strong man you truly desired with your whole heart.
Tears still covered your face, seeking their way down into the cold water of the river.
It was in this melancholic moment that you spotted a familiar face among the shadows. Ivar’s presence unveiled itself on the other side of the river. His intense blue eyes, filled with a mixture of longing and despair, locked onto yours.
“Y/n,” he called your name out, his voice heavy with emotion.
You blinked a few times and a broken, yet warm smile rushed over your lips. You stood up, jumping over the small width of the river, getting closer to Ivar.
“Ivar…,” you whispered, seating you down next to him.
Even though you appreciated his company, your heart couldn’t bear to look into his loyal eyes. Alone the fact others think you and Ubbe would be a suitable couple made you feel dirty.
Ivar’s eyes remained locked on you, his voice filling the silence between you, “You… you don’t want to marry my brother, right?”
You frantically shook your head as an answer.
Ivar came a little closer, his eyes never leaving yours.
"I can't stand the thought of you being with him," he confessed, his vulnerability laid bare. Jealousy or not, his emotions were genuine and Ivar thrived for your love. Yet, he never told you.
“Ivar,” you whispered, contemplating whether you should reveal your intimate feelings. “Ubbe isn’t the man I want to call husband. Of course he’s intelligent and a wonderful fighter, though…”
Ivar’s soothing voice interjected, “I want you to stay by my side.”
Finally, a massive amount of weight released the both of you, and you widened your eyes in surprise. His confession lightened a fire inside you that you had guessed was already banished. A smile lingered on your lips while you replayed his words again and again in your mind. He asked you to remain his, not to become Ubbe’s woman or anyone else’s.
His eyes expressed his fear of rejection, since you two had shared a unique relationship he couldn’t put together. Your beautiful smile warmed his mind though, letting his hope grow little by little.
Your heart quickened in response to the significant magnetic pull between you. Softly, you said the words you had longed to say the past years.
“Ivar, I love you.”
Without a further word, Ivar reached out, his hand gently cupping your cheek. His touch was both tender and possessive, as if he wanted to memorize every inch of your face. He never held you like this - a whole new level of trust and intimacy unveiled itself. His passion and your admiration mixed together.
Slowly, he leaned in, his lips brushing against yours in a soft, tentative kiss. You didn’t know how a kiss normally feels like, but you knew his kiss was the right thing. His lips were warm and inviting, and his breath mingled with yours, creating an intimate connection that defied the existence of everything but your shared love for one another.
It was a kiss filled with unspoken promises - the weight of unexpressed emotions that were kept hidden for many years. It was a kiss that spoke of a love that had always been there, just waiting to be acknowledged, waiting to bloom, waiting to emerge.
When he gently pulled away, your hearts were racing, and a breathless silence hung between you.
Ivar's eyes stared into yours, filled with a raw intensity that left no room for doubt. He loved you too.
“No one will take your hand, except for me, Ástvinur.”

Author’s note: Hope you guys are having a lovely day, also I don’t know if Na’vi have weddings and if they did, idk what they do in them. So I got the idea from the show Vikings, Floki and Helga’s wedding scene. Also the since they’re based on Māori people, I did a bit more digging. Hopefully I don’t offend anyone with the wedding memory. If I wrote something wrong, let me know please.

Two weeks before the arrival of the Sullys.
Two mates were getting married, they had mated before Eywa and now they wanted to show their commitment with everyone in the village. The ceremony was a big one, everyone from the village attended. You and your sister helped the woman get ready, you braided flowers into her hair while your sister was finishing her cream colored attire. Once the bride was ready, you and your sister had to walk with her into the water. You both standing on either side of her, holding a basket of flower petals and throwing the flowers onto the water where she walked on. You saw your brother and Rotxo walking with the groom of the bride, though instead of throwing flowers they were throwing flowers, they had their spears hand in hand.
Once the mates were facing one another, you along with Tsireya, Ao’nung, and Rotxo stood to the side and watched the ceremony. Your mother was the one to marry them, as the ceremony went on, you watched the whole time, paying attention to every detail. It was beautiful, seeing two mates showing their love to one another in this way. Then the exchanged happened, the family of the mates had brought their spears. They were exchanging spears, this was a way to show that they love and trust one another. After the exchange, the final step was to seal the commitment. They leaned in close to one another, faces lightly touching, this was a form of kissing to seal their love. Once done, everyone cheered for the now married couple.
After that ceremony came the other part, the feast, but before anyone could do anything else, a dance was perform, from both the sides of the family from the mates. The dance was a form of respect towards one another’s family and both the mates. Ever since that ceremony you had dreamed of wanting a ceremony like that when it came to you having a mate, it felt like a dream.
That morning you had met up with Kiri and Took at the hot spring with Tsireya. You were all having conversation about today’s plan, but Tuk was too busy playing with the water while Kiri washed her hair with the powered soap. That night Tsireya suggested that they all should go to the spirit tree. It seemed fun since they haven’t seeing the tree, it was a beautiful tree under the water that glowed just like the rest of the underwater plants.
You also got to learn more about Kiri, how her mother was a human but she was conceived with a Na’vi called an avatar. It made you wonder about the being known as avatar, if you were to have an avatar would you be like your parents? Have fins, a tail, wide eyes, your skin being that blue that you loved? Would it be possible that you could become like your parents? Like the people. When out of the bath, you slipped on a dark brown top with net like hip skirt since it matched the top. As for your hair, you weren’t sure what to do with it, so you just tied up in a messy bun, you felt a bit drained that morning. .
Once everyone was ready, you all headed towards the beach to meet up with the boys. The boys had been messing around in the water, splashing one another or pushing each other off there Ilus and such, boys just being boys. “Good morning” Tsireya said loudly making Lo’ak, Neteyam, Ao’nung and Rotxo look over at you guys. “Mornin’” Lo’ak said still looking at Tsireya a bit to long. You then got in the water. “What’s today’s plan?” Ao’nung asked “we’re going to show them our spirit tree” Tsireya said getting onto her ilu, but before you were about to hop on with her, she gave you a look then turned to Neteyam who was looking at you in a sly way. You smiled as you swam over to him. “Hey Neteyam could I ride with you again?” you asked as he nodded. “Of course” he said helping you up, placing you in front of him like the other couple times.
When everyone was on their ilus, everyone set off. On the ride towards the spirit tree was fine, while everyone was distracted, Neteyam was playfully poking you on your sides now and then. Hopefully nobody noticed this, you weren’t sure when you both were going to tell your parents about your relationship. You barely had started it and you wanted to see how long it would last, but you knew this love will last forever.
Finally you arrived at the location, you’d come here a lot as a child with your mother, she wanted you know everything about the Metkayina, she wanted you to learn as much as possible. Everyone got off their ilus and began to follow Tsireya since she knew about the cave. You and Neteyam were side to side, staying a bit behind from everyone. You held hands so that you wouldn’t get separated, well that was the excuse you could use since him along with his siblings didn’t know of this place. Since the cave was dark, his freckles were shinning beautifully, every time you looked at him, he reminded you of the stars at night.
Then when you got to the tree, they were amazed by how the tree looked, it was almost similar towards the one back home but this one was different. Tsireya was showing Lo’ak, Kiri and Tuk around. You and Neteyam were exploring, you were showing him some plants and other kinds of fish that hanged around the cave. You were both in your own little world, not really paying attention to your surroundings. Then you both had a moment, you were both looking into once eyes again, his eyes were the same color as the yellow fish that swam around the cave, they were beautiful, he is beautiful to look at. But then something happened. Something was going on with Kiri, she began to move in a scary way, as if she was trying to wake up.
Tsireya had disconnected her queue from the tree and she swam up with her along with everyone else. Everyone was in a panic, Neteyam had called his Ilu and sat on him while he had Kiri on his lap, giving her mouth to mouth. “Is she breathing?” Rotxo asked worried as Neteyam once again gave her mouth to mouth. “Is she breathing?” Rotxo asked again, then Tsrireya chimed in “lets take her back to the village!” she said now everyone getting on their Ilus, you got on with Ao’nung while Tuk got on with her brother Lo’ak, Neteyam still had a concious Kiri in his arms and everone took off.
Neteyam and Tsireya took Kiri back to the Sullys Marui and explained to Jake and Neytiri what happened, Jake asked permission to your father if he could call for some help from his Skypeople friends in which he aloud. Later that day, something arrived in the village, it was very strange since you had never scene such a thing, then two people came out of it. One was a na’vi of the name Norm and a human with a mask named Max. They entered the Sully’s marui, they must have been the help Jakesully requested. Your mother had offered her help so she went to the Marui.
After you went to look for Neteyam, he seemed very worried due to his sister’s state. You went to your usual spot and saw him sitting on the sand. You walked closer and you noticed his worried expression. “Ma Neteyam? Are you okay?” you asked as you sat next to him, bringing your hand up to his back, rubbing it. “I hope she is okay” He said worriedly. You leaned onto his arm “she will be, if your father’s friends can’t help, my mother will” you said trying to comfort him. Neteyam sighed “what happened to her?” you asked, worried too. “She had a  seizure, its something that happens due to the nerves in your brain, I'm not sure what could of caused it.” He said.
You continued to rub his back comforting him, it hurt you seeing him sad. You wish you found a way to make him smile, but his sister’s health was on his mind, for the remaining of the time you both stayed in silence together, just sitting there listening to the wind and sea fighting one another. Until Lo’ak had been calling for the both of you, you both got up fast and ran towards Lo’ak. Then you saw him running to you both. “Kiri is awake!” he shouted as you both looked at each other and ran as fast as you could towards the Marui.
After you saw Kiri awake you’re glad seeing that she was okay, it worried you a lot when you saw her moving the way she did. You heard that if it happens again, It could kill her. That made your stomach dropped, accidently hearing that from the scientist known as Max. You did not wish for that to happen to anyone, specially her, Kiri is a very nice person with an attitude but very nice once you meet her. You said your goodnights to the sullys and their friends than left back home.
That night you after dinner you wanted to talk with your parents. The whole day you had been thinking of avatar Na’vi, it really interested you if you would be able to have one yourself, become one like your mother and father. When Ao’nung and Tsireya went to bed, you got the chance. “Mother, Father? Can I talk to you?” you asked entering through the curtain that covered their sleeping area. Ronal who was sitting besides Tonowari on their bed. “Yes child, come sit” Tonowari said as you walked over and sat in front of them “what is it that you want to talk about?” your father asked, seeing you playing with your hands.
A nervous habit you had as a child. “Well, I heard that the friends of Jakesully... could make me something called a Na’vi avatar” you said, this caught your mother’s attention. “What do mean?” she asked “If I ask them to make me an avatar, I could be like you, father, and the people, I’ll blend in with everyone” you said. Your parents looked at each other, now worried, then looked back at you. “Why would you want to be na’vi?” Your father asked, curious on your change of mind on being a na’vi, there was nothing wrong with you being a human. “Its just that, I wish too look and be like you, have your eyes, features, skin color, fins... I want to be a part of the family. I envy Ao’nung and Tsireya for having the features of you both.” You said sadly looking down, it was true, you felt as if you were in the wrong body half of the time, you wished that their was a way for you to be a Metkayina Na’vi, and now their was.
“Y/n” Your mother pulled you close between her and Tonowari. “You are a part of our family, no matter what you look like, yes you may look different from your siblings, but you are our child.” Ronal said as she petted your hair. They were right, you will always be their daughter despite not looking like them, they raised you, feed you, clothed you like parents do their children.
You decided to sleep with them that night, you slept in the middle while Ronal was on your right and Tonowari on your left, you used to sleep with them like this when you were younger, sometimes Tsireya would also sleep with you but stopped when she got older and wanted to sleep on her own. You on the other hand didn’t stop until your parents convinced you to sleep with Tsireya in your now shared part of the Marui. Moments like this made you feel like a child again.

This wasn't supposed to happen. None of this was. He wasn't supposed to happen. The gods were playing tricks on her, this couldn't be real. She wanted to hate him, hate how he despised her sister. He was a smartass, an arrogant little boy with anger issues if something didn't go his way.
One son of Ragnar was her greatest fear for her younger sister. Ivar. He was unpredictable and even though the girl was taught how to fight, Lagertha knew that she would not be good enough to protect herself from him. That was the main reason why Lagrtha forbid her sister to leave her side. Lagertha was always very protective of her, even more when the sons of Aslaug and Ragnar started planning to kill her or hurt her the same way she hurt them by killing their mother.
So one night when the girl was upset and searched for a place to hide away, she walked into the woods. Flokis and Helgas place always brought her the most comfort when her and Lagertha fought, those were the times she thought the girl was quietly in her chamber. Sitting down in a small meadow, she leaned back, watching the stars, inhaling the fresh air.
Rustling behind her made her hand quickly shoot to the dagger she kept on her thigh. "Well don't you look cozy." The cold voice of the prince made her flinch as she sat up completely, her body being on alert if he tried anything. "What do you want, Ivar?" The exhaustion from was as clear in her voice and how she said his name as it was on her face. She didn't want to live like this. To live a life that held nothing for her, since she wasn't allowed to do much. Even her nephew Björn was always watching over her when he was here.
Tilting his head Ivar studied her face for a second before crawling over to her and settling down besides her. "I decided I won't kill you." He pursed his lips looking over at her a playful glint in his eyes. "Not yet at least." A small smile pulled at her lips as she averted her face. "Ubbe told us about how Lagertha screamed at you. She was always quiet..." A stern glare from the girl made the boy hold his hands up in defense, a small smirk on his face as he saw her hand moving away from the dagger, finally starting to relax.
Ivar was a simple man, his plan to kill Lagertha was only left uncompleted due to his attraction to her little sister and now having her here in front of him was something he didn't know he longed for. Looking back up at the sky she sighed in frustration. "How is the world out there? You traveled didn't you?" Sitting up straight she turned to him.
The young princes eyebrows raised in surprise as he smiled slightly. "The world is huge, it has so much to see." pouting slightly the girl cursed her sister as she listened to Ivars stories. He told her all about Wessex and the people there, how different their belief are from theirs, which she as well found hilarious. As the night turned colder they took the path back to their home. Not once did they stop talking about what he saw out there and what she would want to see once she'll get out there.
"Gods, I want to see the world, Ivar." Smiling softly she twirled and inhaled the fresh air. Watching her Ivar felt his heart swell at the sight of her carefreeness. "I want to show it to you." His tone was serious and when she looked at him she saw the sincerity in his eyes. "Ivar..." Her voice was a mere whisper, shaking her head she sat down in the dirt near a haystack.
"We can't. Lagertha would never allow this. She wouldn't allow us, Ivar..." She was desperate for him to understand that this would never happen, but he was not having any of it. He would take what he want and if he wanted to have her, then he was going to have her. "Your sister does not control you, nor does anyone else. You should be able to live your life how you want it to be, the gods forbid that you won't live it to the fullest."
Looking around she kissed his cheek quickly. "I'll meet with you in the meadow tomorrow night, don't be late!" She turned around as she quickly ran to her chambers, smiling brightly at him before entering. The young prince couldn't help but grin at her actions, feeling a little giddy himself.
After that night they started sneaking around at night, only sharing small meaningful glances at each other when they passed one another or during a feast. Soon Lagertha grew suspicious, but not because she noticed any of the glances, no, it was because suddenly her sister started training more, stopped questioning her about being able to travel. It was as if she suddenly stopped caring about all that.
Ubbe offered to train with her, Lagertha trusted him so she allowed him to take her sister to the woods during the day as well. Ivar told his brothers about her and how he wanted to see her at any costs as much as he could. In the woods the four of them would train, Ivar didn't trust Sigurd close to her, due to disgusting glances he threw her way when she was merely visiting them over the past years.
She soon found herself growing closer to the brothers and feeling accepted by them. Freedom, was so close she could almost taste it. Walking with Ivar at night was her newly found escape, after he got his greave done for his legs and fixed up his crutches they could even hold hands while walking. Him rubbing her hand soothingly with his thumb, placing ocationally kisses onto her palm , whenever she talked about something that upset her. He enjoyed listening to her almost as much as her gentle kisses he would get to feel whenever his pain was unbearable.
They balanced each other nicely and after a few months the word marriage appeared more and more in their talks about their future. The girl was scared of how her sister would react to her and the youngest Ragnarsson being inseparable and spent every minute they could together.
But she didn't need to tell her, because one day during her and Ubbes training lessons, while she was play fighting with Ivar . Lagertha walked up the path, none of them noticed her sharp eyes watching. Ivar had her pinned down, laughing while she tried to push him of before rolling over and sitting on his stomach, having the prince at her mercy making her grin down at him.
Ubbe and Hvitserk were watching them, drinking ale and laughing at what the other said. Lagertha was disappointed in her, why didn’t she tell her that they were lovers? She continues watching them and filled an old familiar pain in her heart. Ivar was holding her sister now, not strong enough to hurt but strong enough to let her know he had control over the situation but her sister seemed completely fine with it as she leaned into his chest looking up at him with gentle eyes and a loving smile.
Ivars smile matched hers and in this exact moment Lagertha realized that she kept her sister protected from the most beautiful thing out there, a thing she herself shared with Ragnar even after his death. Love. Ivar was similar to Ragnar in many ways, but with her in his arms he resembled his father more than anyone would guess. Of course, she didn’t want her sister to be with someone like Ivar, he was dangerous, but if it is him that makes her as happy as she is right now, then that is all she would ask for.
Returning to her throne back in the great hall Lagertha couldn’t stop thinking about how she should’ve noticed the signs. Ivar was more around than he used to be, it wasn’t his normal behavior. Besides he was being a lot kinder than usual. As Torvi entered the great hall she noticed how lost in thoughts the queen was. „What is the matter?“ She said as she walked next to to sit down by her side. „Did you know about Ivar and my sister?“ Lagertha turned to Torvi catching the younger woman smile apologetic. „Ubbe said I wasn’t supposed to tell you, I apologize.“
As she heard giggles and laughter she could tell the four of them were coming closer, she prepared herself to confront her sister about this. But how was she supposed to? She was spying on her when she found out, not having had one good reason to walk out there in the woods except to check up on her actually being there. Ubbe was the first one to walk into the great hall, he noticed something was up when Torvi didn’t greet him right away. The girl was still outside giggling and whispering. Her whispers could be heard in the whole hall. Quietness settled in as the last three of them walked in, the girl walking a little behind but smiling brightly whenever Ivar would turn around to see if she was still there with him.
„Hello sister!“ The girl greeted and smiles brightly at Lagertha. The queen did not respond, making her feel uneasy as she glanced toward Ubbe, who sighed quietly looking down. Instantly the girl knew what was going on. Panicking she walked closer to her, a nervous laugh escaping her as she looked back to Ivar in reassurance. „It isn’t like you think…“ Lagerthas raised an eyebrow making the girl feel even more uneasy. „Well then how is it? Because it looks like my sister is keeping secrets from me. Keeping secrets because she thinks I don’t want to see her happy or loved.“
The girl gasped softly wondering just how much her sister had seen. „Lagertha, I promise you I do not have any intentions behind my bond with your sister. It’s about her not about you or how you killed my mother.“ Ivar broke the silence looking at Lagertha with pure hatred but his eyes seemed to soften when he looked over at the girl standing close to her. The girl flinched at Ivars harsh words. The woman on the throne couldn’t stop herself from laughing. „I did not even think about that for a second Ivar, because you wouldn’t even be able to.“
„Sister, Ivar would be capable of ruling over Kattegat just as well as you are. His ideas for this village are incredible. If you would just listen to them you’d see how capable he would be to do everything he wanted to.“ With wide eyes the girl just realized what she said, covering her mouth she looked down. „I’m sorry I spoke out of tune.“ Lagertha studied her and saw a lot of how she acted because of Ragnar in her sister, smiling slightly. As her eyes wandered to Ivar, she caught him smirking, his eyes glistening with pride and love as his eyes wandered over her figure.
Getting of her throne Lagertha stopped only in front of her. Her hand went up to cup her cheek, making the girl flinch. The boy tried to crawl over to them making sure the girl stayed unharmed, but Ubbe held him back making the young boy fight against his hold. „He makes you happy, doesn’t he?“ Lagerthas voice was quiet as she smiled down at her sister softly. Nodding her head the girl looked back up at her. „More than anything.“ Her eyes held a sincerity that the woman saw rarely. She was a bit taken aback by her truthfulness. Of course, she was upset about it having to be Ivar. Hvitserk would’ve been easier to accept but sadly that’s not what happened. „How could it be him, he is cruel and no good for you, my sweet sister…“ She could see Ivar lowering his head, knowing that Lagertha was right about him being cruel, not being good enough for the girl.
„He wants to show me the world. He isn’t cruel, he is just easy to upset and in pain, Lagertha…“ Tears welled up in her eyes as she thought about how bad Ivars legs had been these past weeks. „The gods are cruel to him sometimes, so I pray. I pray to them to stop it and he starts to feel better. He is not a cruel man, Lagertha. He just isn’t!“ Her hands were trembling as she clenched them into fists. Lagertha could only stare at her in shock. For how long was their relationship kept a secret from her? „How long did you feel like this about him?“ She grew angry for being held in the dark that long. „All of this started a little over six months ago…“ The girls head hung low as she fidgeted with her fingers.
Looking at her hand she noticed a little mark on her ring finger looking over at Ivar she saw the same small mark on the same finger. „You’re thinking about marriage…“ She gasped quietly taking a step back from her sister. „I accept your decision, but I do not support it. Though I will give you my blessing only because I haven’t seen you happy like this in ages. You are my little sister and I love you and I want you to be loved. As much as I don’t like Ivar, I have to say that he truly seems to love you and care for you.“ Smiling widely the girl hugged her sister tightly, throwing her arms around her. „Thank you!“ She repeated those words until she turned to Ivar grinning at him shyly.
Ivar walked over to her cupping her cheek before he kissed her forehead and leaned his against hers. „I told it would work out somehow, my love. May the gods forbid anything would part us until we both are on our way to dine with the gods in Valhalla.“
Lagertha couldn’t fight the smile as she watched the both of them. Even though she disliked Ivar, she was certain he would treat her right. Maybe even better than Ragnar treater her. She could tell in his smile, in his eyes, in every action towards her sister, that he adored her.

“Giving you love right now, Ivar, seems like a desperate act,”
It intoxicates him, lying in the cot; and having seen the abyss he’s falling towards up close, he still refuses. Floki sits on the other side of the room, painstakingly watching Ivar stare at the ceiling, at the world just beyond his window. He’s watching him waste away; pushing himself up on few occasions to readjust, but he refuses food. Refuses help. He just simply refuses.
“The only way I am leaving here, Ivar, is if you get up and escort me out,” Floki has told him, calmly.
“Do you want my lunch?” Ivar asks dryly. Floki on shakes his head. “You’ve been here for days,” He tries.
“As have you,” Floki starts. “The only difference is, Helga has packed me food. You know how she gets,”
“Go home to her,” Ivar grumbles.
“No,” Floki replies, and it’s firm. Reasonable. Steady—what Ivar needs right now. His eyes are still closed as he speaks, head resting back against the wall. Floki never sleeps, Ivar is sure of that. He only rests.
“I don’t want to break up your marriage because of this. I’ve already lost Y/N,”
“You fight for what you want,” Floki simply says. “And, if you would look at any other place than outside your window, you bastard, you’d notice, she’s been in the hall,” Ivar turns his head quickly at that. But he knows, Floki never lies.
You’re there, propped up in one of the most uncomfortable chairs you’ve ever sat in, your sweatshirt bunched into a makeshift pillow as you scroll on your phone. You’re still in your uniform, and you’ll probably stay in it until your next shift. There’s a single water bottle on the ground, and as Ivar watches you, a nurse stops at your side. She offers you something to eat and you accept it. Because she knows you’ve been here for days, too.
“Thank you, Thora,” You say softly and your throat is dry. Dry from misuse, dry from crying. Dry.
“You’re alone today,” She remarks, and takes the set next to you. Your eyes watch her, trailing from your phone to her face before dancing down to her ID badge, clipped to her scrubs by a cartoon pizza slice, complete with a smile.
“Yeah, his brother wanted to get some sleep in a place that won’t cause him irreversible spine damage,” You hum, watching Thora split her sandwich into two pieces.
“You might want to try that too,” Thora says softly, handing you your half. “They seems really close,”
“They’re twins,” You state. “They were made that way,” You snort. “We uh, we worked his crash together,” You then tell her.
“Wow,” Thora answers. “I can’t imagine what that must have been like,”
“I couldn’t tell you, either, I haven’t—haven’t processed it yet,”
“You will in time,” She tells you. “If you don’t die from exhaustion, or spine damage first,” She teases you, and you snort.
“I didn’t get to be where I am without being determined,” You answer. “Chief didn’t raise no quitter,” And that phrase alone makes you smile.
For a moment you wish he was here; everything makes sense with him around. Your drawing he handed you is still in your pocket, and every so often you find your fingers gravitating towards it. Like a toddler and their favorite blanket. It makes sense. Just like everything makes sense in the bay at the station. You can’t remember how many times you’ve sat on those floors, even prior to your career, just to find some piece of mind. That warmth of nostalgia from the cool touch to the concrete; and the smell—one you’ve never found anywhere else. How your home smells, only to you. A scent you could notice any moment, but it would only make sense in that one place. You’d wheel Ivar there in a heartbeat if you thought it would have the same affect on him.
“If he doesn’t start eating soon, we’ll have to place him on a feeding tube,” Thora suddenly admits.
“I know,” You say.
Ivar watches you converse, not able to know what you’re saying but with the expression on your face, he learns it’s nothing pleasant. You’re paler now than he remembers, there’s no color to your cheeks, you’re gaunt, you’re simple existing as he is.
That’s the moment Ivar realizes it. If this kills him, it’s going to kill you, too.
It’ll kill Floki.
It’ll kill Hvitserk.
It’ll kill Aiden.
It’ll kill his mother.
It’ll kill you. It’ll kill the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
Inhaling suddenly, a panic seeps into Ivar—as if something has grabbed him, holding him under water and his screams only bubble to the surface. Sitting up quickly he grips his bed sheets, the monitor to his side beeps rapidly to announce the anxiety and it draws Floki’s attention. It draws Thora’s attention, and with a bite of turkey in your mouth, you look up at the man, with panic etched into his features, he is staring back at you.
“Ivar?” Floki says, and even you notice that this is concerning to him. “Ivar? What’s going on?”
“I—,” And out of all the languages he can speak, none of them want to trickle off his tongue. Thora stands in anticipation and you only put your hand to slow her down.
“Leave him be,” You finally say after swallowing your bite. “Floki’s the best thing for him right now,”
“Not if he’s having a serious problem,” Thora answers, looking down at you.
“He’s not,” You reply. “I know that look,” You tell her.
“I can’t kill her,” Ivar finally says.
“Ivar…?” Floki starts.
“Y/N,” Ivar replies, as if the answer is as clear for Floki as it is for him. “I can’t kill Y/N,”
“You think this is killing her?” Floki asks. “Tell me more,” Ivar swallows thickly.
“She’s…she’s pale,” Ivar replies. Floki negates to turn to look at you, waiting for what more is to come. Ivar takes his hands to scrub the tears out of his eyes before speaking again:
“She’s in the same uniform,”
“She wears and identical uniform, Ivar. Every day,”
“No—no she washes it after work. Right after work—she’s through the door and…and it’s in the wash before anything else. I always—I always kiss her shoulder when she’s done and she said—she wants a tattoo there now because it’s so reparative. It drives me up the fucking wall too because sometimes…she just washes it alone, or I’ve done my laundry already and then she’s there, taking off her uniform,”
You watch Ivar. You watch him explain something to Floki with the intensity through his features, a passion to his words and you wonder what on earth he could be talking about.
“The color is always brighter after the wash, and it’s always dim when she comes home from work. Like…like she’s so excited to go into the job she loves, and even though she’s drained when she comes home, she does it all again because that’s who she is,”
“Ivar,” Floki tries.
“And it’s so dim right now, Floki—her uniform, her face, everything is so fucking dim because of me. And this is killing me, because I can hardly move and—and I keep trying to tell my legs to move but they’re ignoring me. And if this kills me, it’s going to kill her. Where will she find that color if I die, Floki?” Ivar finally cries.
Floki’s eyes water, inhaling deeply as he watches the little boy he remembers cry in front of him.
“Ivar,” Floki says. “Let’s stand up, and we’ll go from there,”
And Ivar nods. Without even thinking about the sentence, he nods every so slightly that Floki almost misses it.
Stunned for a moment, Floki swallows, mentally patting himself on the shoulder as he straightens. He puts a hand on Ivar’s shoulder, squeezing for a second before he abandons his bag on the chair and turns to the hallway. Opening the door and cleaning his throat he looks at both you, and Thora.
“Think you can help him stand, Y/N?” Floki asks. In all honesty, you’re quite positive you’re imagining it. “Y/N?” Floki asks again.
“Help him…help him stand?” You ask.
“Did I stutter?” Floki tries. You inhale, standing as Thora follows you. But before she can follow you into the room, Floki cuts off her path.
“Give them a second,” He winks. “Can I buy you a cup of coffee?” Floki asks her.
“Hi,” Ivar says to you softly.
“Hi, Ivar,” You say back to him as he finally looks up at you. “Oh, Ivar…” You trail off, taking the pad of your thumb to wipe the tear that spills. He melts into your hand at an instance, leaning against your palm as if you’re taking away every ounce of discomfort for him.
“I don’t want to kill you,” Ivar mumbles.
“What?” You ask.
“I don’t want to kill you too,” He repeats, as if it makes sense to you, like it does to him.
“You won’t,” You try.
“If I don’t get better, I will,” He tells you and that’s when it hits you, too.
“Then lets stand up, just you and me, yeah?” You try.
“Are you allowed to do that?” Ivar asks, stalling.
“I am a medical professional,” You say. “And they can sue me if they think otherwise. I’ll move the blanket, you don’t have to look, alright?” You tell him and Ivar nods.
It aches Ivar as he feels you pull the sheet from his leg, relishing in the fact that he can feel it; he can feel the cold air against his skin, but he won’t look. You eyes scan his legs, still wrapped in dressings, less stitches than you remember and you gently place you hand on his thigh.
“You feel that?” You ask and Ivar nods. Your mind takes over, as if he is a patient in your care and you asses is pedal pulse, two fingers on the top of his foot and it’s strong. “Can you feel that?” You whisper and Ivar nods, still looking directly at you. Only at you. You take your knuckle against the ball of his foot, tracing from heel to toe lightly, and back down again. “How about that?” And he nods, a glimmer of a smirk to his lips at how it tickles him. “Can you move your toes for me?” You then ask him, and Ivar does—eyes still not leaving yours. He watches how your eyes water, and you recall asking him similar questions in the heat of the crash’s aftermath and how he slurred a response.
“Can you roll your ankles at all?” You whisper. And you watch them rotate, just as you ask. You take you thumb to his nail bed, pressing against his toe to watch the capillary refill in almost perfect time. And the whole time, Ivar’s eye never leave your face. “Alright,” You squeak. “I’ll help you swing them slowly,”
“Wait,” Ivar says suddenly. “Come here,” And you obey. His hands stretch towards you, taking up your cheeks as he brushes the hair from your face, and wiping under your eyes. He pulls you in then, his lips just brushing yours and you can’t help the small cry that escapes, that’s caught between the two of you before it’s swallowed with the kiss.
“I love you,” Ivar whispers.
“I love you, too,”
“Now I’m ready,” Ivar tells you.
Your hands are nearly hot coals against his legs, as you try to be as gentle as possible with your heart rate nearly pounding in your ears. You have half a mind to stop, to pull out your phone so you can record it but you don’t want to ruin the moment.
“Fuck, that tile is a lot colder than I thought it would be,” Ivar grumbles and it makes you laugh. “If I fall, you know you’re going to fall with me, right?”
“Gee, Ivar, I hadn’t really thought of that,” You say sarcastically and there’s a glare from his face that you don’t realize how much you have missed until that moment.
With his feet on the floor you repeat the same movements, assess, feeling, having him move his toes and his ankles and all the while Ivar won’t look at his legs. Adjusting his hospital gown, you position his hand to grip the railing, and you put your shoulder under his opposite arm.
“Ready?” You ask.
“Not really,” Ivar admits.
“If you think you’re going to fall, just sit back down, alright?”
“You ever done this before?” Ivar asks, stalling.
“Only at least once a day while I’m on duty,” You answer.
“I don’t know if I can—”
“Ivar, not today,” You state. “We’re not doing this today, we’re not doubting ourselves,” And Ivar inhales. “On three, yeah?”
“Baby—”
“Ivar,” You say sternly, catching his eyes. “You can do this. You can stand up. It’ll get you that much closer to coming home,”
“Alright,” Ivar peeps.
“One, two…two and a half…three,” You finally say. And as you hold your breath your barrel your feet down against the ground, taking Ivar’s weight as you help to lift him. You watch the muscles in his arm tense, the veins popping into view as he pushes himself to be flat on his feet. And for a moment, time freezes, and Ivar stands.
He stands.
“Fuck,” Ivar hisses. “It’s worse than pins and needles,” He groans.
“Lean some of your weight on me,” You tell him. And he does. “Alright, good, now shift some back against the bed,” You then say. As Ivar follows your command you take your free arm and you reach for the walker that’s collecting dust by his bed.
“We’re going to switch, and you’re going to push your weight through your hands against the walker, alright?”
“No—I’ll fall,” Ivar tries.
“On three, yeah?”
“Y/N,” Ivar tells you but you know better this time than to let him pull himself out of the moment. You move the device in front of him and he follows suit without argument, grunting slightly as he moves his hand from the rail to the handle. Slowly you help him bring the other hand down, catching his weight before he’s standing on his own, hands gripping the bars for dear life.
And you laugh—in sheer shock you look at Ivar standing before you.
“Ivar!” You exclaim. “You’re standing, you’re—you’re fucking standing!”
Ivar has a look of discomfort across his face, mixing with the anguish and what feels like slight embarrassment while you reward him for what he thinks is the most basic fucking thing.
“Where do you hurt?” You ask quickly, searching his face.
“Do you want to guess?” Ivar snaps at you. His breathing rate increases as he feels his palms get sweaty and he worries he’s going to lose his balance.
“I’m right here, Ivar,” You tell him.
“I’m standing,” He finally croaks. “I’m actually—standing,” And there’s a smile on his face.
You move yourself to his vision, reaching through your toes to kiss his chin and you smile back at him.
“I told you,” You whisper to him, and Ivar sees that color come back to your face.
“Where’s Floki?” Ivar asks.
“Did you really think I would go that far, eh?” Floki sings from the hallway.
“Floki—I’m standing,” Ivar says in disbelief. “You have to call Hvitserk,” He adds.
“My phone is a bit busy right now,” Floki hums, and you notice then, where his bag sits abandoned in his chair, his phone sits just outside of it, propped up, and recording.

Rollo glares back at your small entourage, watching the three of you laugh, and those boys that couldn’t keep their hands off you.  You three had become the talk of Kattegat.  Everyone was curious about the woman that was able to tame two men.  “Do you have a problem with my daughter?” Lagertha gives Rollo a smirk, and he looks back towards the front of the line.
“No.  It’s unnatural.”
“Aesir is unnatural,” Ragnar reaches behind him, helping Lagertha up.  “She is a goddess amongst men,” Rollo rolls his eyes, letting out an annoyed huff, “I’m sorry, demi goddess.  She has defied the odds in battle.  Her scars look like boys on their first raid, and how many has she been on?  She hardly gets hit.”
“She has a man that stands in front of her.”
Lagertha laughs, stopping to look at him, “Bucky stands beside her, never in front.  He is her equal.  And now, she will have another beside her.  What is your real problem with Aesir?”
“I asked to marry her,” Floki chuckles behind Rollo, mumbling something to Helga.  “You told me when she was of age.”
“I told you, when she was of age, and chose you,” Ragnar hated this conversation.  It was the same tiresome conversation over and over again.  “She didn’t choose you.  She’s not some girl in the village wanting to lay down and provide sons for her husband, she doesn’t need a man.  Remember all those times I tried to get you to help her, but instead you left.  Instead of breeding children with her, you bred fear and hatred.  Aesir would never choose you.”
“Instead, you’d let her play with those boys.  If only you heard…”
“That is enough,” Lagertha cuts him off short.  “The gods have already decided our fates, and the Seer did not tell you of her in your future.  You know this.  Let it go.  Your bitterness and anger will not change the fact that both of those men will be taking a hand of hers to hold.  They’ve all moved into Ari’s house, and there will be a wedding soon.  Enough.  It’s done.”
Rollo looks back at your smiling face.  He ignored the happiness that lit up your entire being.  Couldn’t see that the same glow surrounded the other two men.  How even though Bucky and Ari were vastly different men, when it came to you, they shared a common interest.  You.  He does however spot Ari’s deep blue eyes darken as he looks at Rollo.  Ari couldn’t explain it, but he didn’t like that man.  Did not like the way he was never far from you.  He just chose not to say anything to you, only to Bucky.
Tumblr media
With droplets of splattered blood freckling your face, you walk up to the altar of Freyr, staring up at the large structure.  You were to come here to ask for blessings from the gods, and it was no surprise to Lagertha why you had chosen this particular one first.  You take a deep calming breath as you lay a hand on his body, “Freyr, I ask that you use my body as a vessel.  Fill my womb with seed so that I can provide many sons for my future husbands.  I don’t want to be just a mother, but I know that our children will be one of our greatest gifts.”
A raven flies into the temple, landing on Thor, and he squawks at you, “I have accepted my fate, All Father,” you step back from Freyr and over to Thor.  That creepy one eyed raven stares down his beak at you.
You step up to Thor’s statue staring up at the two of them, “Allow me to protect them as they protect me. I am not fighting our fate. I fully accept that the daughter of Thunder will be married to two men, and I ask that you guide me in dealing with both of them. To be what I need to be for them, but for myself. I can't lose who I am for them,” you look up at that silly bird and he bows his head before flying off.  He was a foreboding little creature.  Turning up at the most inopportune times.
Meeting Lagertha at the entrance of the temple you follow her out, and she wraps an arm around your waist. “Being a wife and a mother does not make you less of a shieldmaiden or warrior. We women are amazing because we can do both. You were at Freyr for a long time.”
“I have two men that I will marry. They are expecting sons.”
“What are you expecting?” You glance over at your adoptive mother.  She was always the one that wanted to check on what you wanted.  Had shown you living proof that a woman could have it all.
“I would like to give them sons,” you smirk, spotting the two of them and they were already drinking with a bowl of mushrooms in Bucky’s hand, “But I think daughters are even more amazing,” you give her a quick kiss before bounding over to the giants.
Ragnar walks beside his wife, wrapping a hand around her, smiling at the three of them, “I think our job is done.  We did what was asked of us by the gods.  We got rid of her, and she’s their problem now.”
“Shh, she’ll be having children soon”
“No.  Not happening, she’s too stubborn.  I will not…”
“You don’t have to.  I will help her with the children.”
Ari comes up behind you, his boozy breath on your neck as he wraps his giant arms around you.  Holding up a curved horn for you to take a drink of the mead.  “It’s time to celebrate.  Consummate our relationship.  Get relaxed.  You’re going to feel pleasure as you’ve never felt it before.”
Bucky stands, and his hand immediately goes to your side as he holds up the bowl, “Eat.  It won’t take long,” you pull out a small bundle of mushrooms, stuffing them into your mouth, and you try not to think about the taste.  Just swallow them while you are taken to another realm of existence.
Both men joining in with you, before they pull you away from the crowd, needing something more private, and you dance interconnectively.  Their hands all over your body as they fight for who gets to kiss on your lips.  Twisting you back and forth in a sinful tango.  Their hands pull at the fabric of your dress, and your own hands push off their shirts, and your fingers outline their tattoos. Your vision tricking you to believe your skin was melting on theirs.  The three of you figuratively fusing together to become one.
A streak of lighting changes your vision and Bucky and Ari meld into one person.  Breaking apart only to show that there was a difference between them. Taking you to a makeshift bed as they split apart, and Bucky lays down, extending a hand up to you, “Aesir, are you ready to become one?” Ari whispers on the shell of your ear, giving the sensitive spot a nibble.  “You ready to take us both?”
“Yes,” you whimper, being led over to Bucky, while Ari slowly pushes fingers into your weeping cunt.  Spreading apart your puffy lips so Bucky can see your throbbing pussy.
“She’s excited,” picking you up, he places you over Bucky.  Letting your body slowly sink over him, and stepping back to watch you slowly grind over him.  Your hands pressing on his chest, while you look back at him desperately.  Your eyes are so heavy lidded, when you pout up at him.  “Enjoy your wolf for just a minute.  This is going to sting.  You gonna show us those pretty tears.  My cock will be much thicker than my fingers.  But you did take his cock and my fingers so well.”
He steps up behind you, rubbing his hand over your belly, “You’re going to take us all.  There will be no pulling out. Not here.  No seed will be wasted.  You can do that for us though, can’t you?”
His hands go to cup your tits, and he fondles them as Bucky stares completely mesmerized.  His cock already twitching at all the firsts that all of you were going to experience.  Still bouncing over Bucky’s cock, you gaze up at the sky.  It was starting to darken, blanketing your pleasure with the stars.  Reaching an arm around, you pull Ari closer to you, “Wanna feel you, too.”
He presses you down to Bucky’s chest, but you have to peek around.  Have to see him, spit down where you and Bucky were connected, and then spit down at his cock.  Bucky still thrusts his memeber into you, and you start sitting up, growing anxious of the time that Ari was taking.  But his thick hand holds you down, “Behave.  I put you that way for a reason.”
Getting down to his knees, he rubs his tip at your entrance, and you turn to push your face against Bucky’s neck, “She’s clenching down.”
“She’s excited.  Aesir, darling, I need you to relax.  You want to know that you can control both Bucky and my cocks, right?  Want to feel your walls stretch around the two of us, proving once again how much of a goddess you are.  And we will worship at your cunt’s altar every night,” you grip tight to Bucky’s shoulders, bracing yourself for penetration.
The moment you take a slow calming breath, Ari pushes his thick cock through, “Relax, baby.  We’ve got you.  You were made for us,” it is achingly slow.  Each inch makes you hiss.  Bucky’s fingers gingerly brush up and down your back.  Cooing sweet nothings in your ear about how you were taking them both.
Not stopping until Ari is fully sheathed.  His thick base making the stretch almost too much.  Almost.  Lifting you up a bit more, he gets right at your ear, “I knew you could do it.  You let everyone in Uppsala and the gods know how good we make you feel.  How you can take and control both the mountain and the white wolf.  You are our goddess to worship.  And you will provide us with our own little warriors.  Let them know,” grabbing onto your hips, he starts to thrust into you.
Your head lolls forward as the sting turns into pleasure.  Proud of yourself for being able to accommodate both of them.  Visions that you had seen were coming to pass.  Your body and mouth uncontrolled by you starts screaming up to the gods.  They felt amazing, otherworldly.  Cool droplets of rain pour onto your skin, and Ari drives himself harder.
Cracks of lightning light up the darkened sky, while the thunder rumbles the ground below, “We’re being blessed, Aesir,” Bucky comments, pushing his length into you with the same force as Ari.  “Listen,” as if on cue that damn bird caws above you.  “They’re all here.  It is our divine purpose,” your eyes cloud over, “She’s not in control of herself again.”
“Because she’s where she’s supposed to be,” Ari slams himself into you, slapping his hips against your skin.  But all you see is visions of their hands over your body.  It’s not sexual, it’s loving.  Rubbing on your skin, and over your ridiculously large stomach.
A midwife and Lagertha in between your legs as you scream.  You couldn’t hear a word that they were saying.  You blink your eyes trying to bring yourself into the present.  There was an airy quality to the visions that you now easily spot.  But this vision didn’t want to go away.  Except for Ari saying, ‘We did it,’ and you’re pulled back to being sandwiched between them.  Screaming out in pleasure now when the bird flies away.
“There she is,” Ari starts pounding into your warmth.  “We had to wait until you came back,” both of them rail into you.  And you would swear to it you feel your pleasure course through your veins.  Could feel the euphoria travel through every ounce of your blood.  Your walls start fluttering around them, and Bucky grits his teeth trying to stave off his own pleasure.
His fingers weave into yours, and he pushes you off him.  Rivers of rain drift down your body, tracing out your curves.  Throwing your head back on Ari’s shoulder, he gets to see your body ripple with every driving force into you.  A bulge in your belly appears with every thrust into you, “We’re in her stomach,” he groans.
“Now!” Ari growls.  Your cunt clenches down around both of them.  Holding them deep in your womb while thick hot ropes of cum paint your walls.  Ari’s hand rubs over that little spot, “And that’s where we’ll stay.  Aesir, you tired, darling?”  You nod your head, your body starting to sink over Bucky.  Your eyes grow heavier, as you start to drift off.
“Let her sleep.  We’re going to make sure this seed doesn’t go to waste,” his fingers move over your newest tattoo, already envisioning how he and Bucky could be added to this back piece.  “She’s going to be so pretty, swollen with our child.  A child born of two fathers.”
“If we don’t have two,” Bucky groans, re-establishing his weight, “Next time, you’re on the bottom.  She is out, and this is uncomfortable.”
“She took two fat cocks, and went into that weird state.  I think she deserves to be out like that,” Ari looks up at the sky, smiling as the drops of rain pelt his skin.  “Maybe we should go inside.  We’ll make sure to have her take both of us throughout this whole festival.  This is only day one.”
“And everyone will know that Aesir belongs to a mountain and a wolf.”

𝑰 𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑩𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒚! Kindhearted, with a strong moral sense. He's resilient but also caring and I think you would work so well together. He isn't perfect, and of course, he comes from a life of piracy, so he's a little rough around the edges - but I think he's the most sensitive and receptive.
𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒐𝒏𝒔
He would be very respectful of you - he's the most moral out of all the male characters, and does his best to do the right thing (whilst also being a pirate)
I think Billy would see himself as tainted - as someone who doesn't deserve you. But you always think he's talking nonsense. Every time he feels like that, you take his hand and rest your forehead against his.
Whenever you walk past him and he's sitting down, he'll grab your waist and pull you to him. He loves it when you sit in his lap, and he can wrap his arms around you. Holding you close. Holding you tight.

He loves your empathy. You show him how to be a better man all the time. He realises that he can change for the better, rather than being vengeful or set in his ways.

Max! Oh, you two would have a very emotionally open friendship. She would come to you when things get rough, and you would do the same with her. You both give great advice and it's a really powerful friendship.

𝑰 𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑩𝒋𝒐𝒓𝒏! This is really difficult because you've only watched up until season 3, but without spoiling anything, just know that Bjorn becomes a mighty and well-known man. I think you two would get along, but buttheads at first. He would find you so intriguing, and interesting.
𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒐𝒏𝒔
Wanted to get married quite quickly. It was you who wanted to slow down. But marrying the son of the great Ragnar Lothbrok brought a lot of pride to your family.
With Bjorn, your relationship is filled with banter and laughter. He's a bit of a tease - likes to poke good-hearted fun at you. He never says anything mean though. Because he knows you'll say something 10x meaner back.
It is a real Viking tradition to gift the bride a kitten on their wedding day in order for her to be able to set up her new household. (I'm 100% serious). And they're large fluffy ones too. You named yours after the goddess Freyja. Cats are a part of the deity's identity.

Would be Floki and Helga! You love this couple so much and whenever you visit them, they welcome you with open arms. Helga especially. You're the main person she really opens up to.

𝑫𝒆𝒔𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏
𝑰 𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑾𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝑻𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒓! Although he's a pirate, he has morals and standards that he keeps to. What really got to me was when you wrote, 'just doing my best to be a better me,' which is very telling about a person. I've actually not once had someone say that when describing themselves. So, this tells me that you too have standards in life that you keep to - you have opinions and passions and that's why I think Will would be best suited to you.
𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒐𝒏𝒔
He's actually very intuitive, and would pick up on everyone else falling in love with you - but not that you had fallen for him.
Will knows when you're tired, hungry, and when you feel down. He's a very loving partner and doesn't want you to experience anything awful, so he does everything in his power to protect you (although you tell him time and time again that you can protect yourself)
Knows that you love books and a lot of his plunder includes just that. (Because I have a feeling that you'd both be pirates and run this armada together. But it's more of a Robin Hood type thing...)

Will absolutely loves that you're friendly but can switch up on a person if they treat you the wrong way. You know your worth, and that you're trying to be the best version of yourself.
𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒃𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅
Tia Dalma and Jack Sparrow! I know that may seem intimidating, but you and Jack would hit it off, right from the beginning. And with Tia Dalma, you become so fascinated by everything she knows. I think you would just want to stay and learn from her.

Quiet
This was created for the winter solstice event hosted by @vikingsevents for the prompt body heat.
540 word one shot below the cut. Please note this deals with mental health issues. Please do not read if this is triggering to you. Pairing: Floki x Helga.
Helga watches Floki as he works. It is a freezing cold day in Kattegat. The depth of winter holds the city in its icy grasp. Anyone with any sense at all is either inside under furs or in front of a roaring fire.
Not Floki though. Ever the dutiful boatbuilder, he is carving the beasthead that will sit at the prow of his latest creation.
Helga pulls the fur she has draped around her shoulders tighter, to ward off the shivers that rack her body. She would like nothing more than to go home, but she cannot when her husband is out here. She knows he does not possess the sense to realise when it is time to stop and come inside to get warm.
She watches him, concern creasing lines into her eyes and forehead. He works  erratically, and while his gaze is fixed on the task at hand he is not really seeing what he is working on. A snarl pulls at his mouth, a deep frown furrows his brow as he mutters to himself. Helga knows that something is bothering Floki, but she understands better than to ask about it. Floki is a troubled man, plagued by darkness. From all their years together Helga has learned to just be silently there for him and he will eventually talk to her when he is ready. Pushing him to open up only causes him to withdraw further.
Floki is too deep in his own thoughts to notice how cold he is. Thoughts of Ragnar, Athelstan and what the Gods expect of him swirl in his mind. It is all too loud, too much. His hands feel numb. His tools won’t work against the grain of the wood the way that he needs them to. He loses his grip on his chisel as he brings it down against the wood. It clatters to the ground and Floki lets out an anguished howl, falling to his knees, his head in his hands.
Helga hurries to him, wrapping him up in her fur with her and pulling him close. He does not move, it appears he hasn’t registered her presence. He is freezing cold. Guilt washes over Helga. She should have forced Floki to stop ages ago. Truthfully, she knows he would not have listened to her though. Floki has always been a man that plays by his own rules. She rubs her hands over his arms and shoulders in an attempt to warm him up.
As a little warmth begins to return to Floki, he turns to look at Helga. It is as if he is seeing her for the first time. She looks like a Valkyrie to him. Long, flowing flaxen hair falling in soft waves around her pretty face as she holds him to her. His eyes soften, brimming with tears.
“Helga” he says, it is quiet but needy and the weight behind its intent far outweighs the two syllables it comprises.
“I know.” She soothes him. She does not need him to say any more. Coaxing him to lay his head upon her chest, she strokes the sparse scruff of his wild hair.
Helga is warm against Floki. Her embrace feels like home. Suddenly his mind is quiet.

Lost & Found. Chapter 12.
Ivar Ragnarsson x oc.
Summary: doubts and mistrust pile up easily when you’re in a foster home, in a foreign place, with a prince that you cannot figure out. 2.4k words.
Taglist: @youbloodymadgenius @pieces-by-me @luvmeijii @fairypitou
P.S.: I’m so very sorry for the *late* update, had a car accident XD
----------------------------------
After the argument, Revna briskly walked away until she reached the outskirts of Kattegat. The whole exchange with Ivar was so out of the blue, she was left confused to the point of being disoriented. The worst part was that Revna didn’t know why Ivar argued with her.
Eventually, she reached the beach, sat down, occasionally drawing on the sand. Trying to understand the root of that argument was pointless by now; she missed a lot of what he said, but she understood the accusations. She was trying to be careful in not doing things that could tarnish her image and put her in a precarious situation, only to have that come right from the person she thought everything was alright. Whatever prompted Ivar to demean her in such a way, was a wild guess.
It made no sense at all, but maybe there was no need for it. Ivar, Ubbe and Sigurd were all royalty, they could change their disposition with the wind and all would be fine. She was just a stranger who had a lucky strike to not be there as a slave, yet. They probably regarded her as an oddity and could do whatever they wanted to her and no one, save maybe for Helga, would be bothered.
As dusk approached, it was time to head back to Helga’s home. It was getting cold, too cold, hopefully, Helga wouldn’t ask too much and she wouldn’t have to say anything. On the way back she heard that strangely pitched voice from the boatbuilder calling her name.
Floki was probably the tallest man she ever saw and easily one of the strangest. He was never hostile to her, much less harmed her, but Revna was aware he only put up with her because of his wife. Once Helga grew tired of her, he would kick her out of his house in the blink of an eye. Then she would be another of the many slaves that filled the whole city, if not one of the skulls that Floki decorated his workplace. Neither prospect was enticing and after the argument with Ivar, she was feeling as vulnerable and alone as when she first saw the couple. It took effort to maintain her composure and not betray the shiver that ran down her spine as he approached her with his unique gait.
When Floki was close, he leaned down to reach her level, looking at her with that always intense gaze.
“Where have you been? It’s almost night.”
“The beach.”
“All this time?”
“Most of it.”
Floki sighed, tilting his head to the side, still looking at her. Revna hoped his distant disposition towards her worked in her favor and he wouldn’t ask anything.
“You’ll get yourself in trouble if you continue with this.”
She didn't answer him, there wasn’t anything to be said, but he insisted:
“You understand that, don’t you?”
“Yes.”
“Yet you keep doing it. I don’t know what to do with you.”
Revna didn’t say anything in her defense. After a while, Floki put a hand over her shoulder and they began walking.
“Let’s head back home. Before you catch something.”
When they arrived, Helga was pacing back and forth in front of the house and as soon as she spotted them she ran in their direction and held Revna by her shoulders before embracing her in a tight hug. Revna could hear the woman’s fast heartbeat against her ear and awkwardly returned the embrace. Helga’s concern was thankfully enough to shadow any other question.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the following morning, Revna woke up to the scent of breakfast, reluctantly leaving the warm comfort of the bed to follow it to where Helga was cooking.
“Morning, my child.” Helga greeted with a gentle smile and her apparently never ending kindness.
“Morning, Helga.”
She only briefly met Helga’s gaze before reaching her hands close to the pot for warmth, missing entirely how Helga’s smile faltered.
“You want to help?”
“Yes.”
Helga handed her the spoon and instructed:
“Keep stirring it. I will set the table.”
It was how their typical routine began. Floki prepared for another day of work, while Helga kept the house running. The couple had a silent understanding of each other that was clear to see and she couldn’t help but feel like an intruder on their intimacy.
After a while Helga asked her:
“How’s Ivar?”
The question wasn’t new, but it unnerved Revna that day. She wasn’t blind to not see Ivar was close to that couple, they would discover sooner or later, but she would rather it be later.
Floki, who typically didn’t show much interest in their conversations, paid close attention:
“He will be good soon. I think.”
Unexpectedly, Floki giggled, almost spilling his mead. Revna looked at him puzzled, but Helga was pleased.
“You meant ‘better’,” Floki corrected her, “he will be better soon”
“Better,” she repeated after him, “he will be better soon.”
Floki kept paying attention, while Helga continued the conversation:
“That is great. Aslaug will be relieved. She loves Ivar greatly and suffers when he’s in pain.”
“Will you meet with Ivar today, Revna?” Floki inquired, sounding almost as normal as always, but he made a point to emphasize her name.
“If he wishes.”
“It is good that you two are getting along. You are learning, and it would be good for Ivar to have a friend.” Helga chimed in.
Floki remained silent, but his weird look made Revna uncomfortable. He was a strange man overall, but somehow his sudden interest was even stranger.
As they finished the breakfast, Helga sat close to Revna to braid her hair. She never let Revna leave with her hair undone, even if it was a ‘simple’ style. After that, Revna left as if nothing had changed, but she wouldn’t go anywhere near Ivar or his brothers. She would do everything in her ability to not bump into any of them. They were toying with her, whatever the game was, she didn’t like it.
She didn’t count the days since she last saw Ivar, but she succeeded in her endeavor. Although the hours passed much slower without Ivar’s company and it was much too evident the loneliness of her predicament, it gave her time to think.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Ivar recovered, he left the confines of his house as soon as he could, much to everyone's relief. Everyone was used to the short, unpredictable temper Ivar had, everyone knew it got worse when his legs forced him to stay inside, but this time he became downright terrible. Aslaug was thankful to the gods both for her son's recovery and because all that she had to replace was a few broken utensils, not a new slave. It was hard to find good ones.
Meanwhile, the rumors ran wild among the thralls. The visits from the odd girl didn’t go unnoticed and while nobody knew how the two met, everyone had bets on why she never returned. Some even speculated she was dead since no one saw her again, some speculated she would be dead once Ivar could leave.
Ivar, however, had enough time to think about everything since that day and he was angry. He was mad at Sigurd for interfering with his matters and mad at himself for taking the bait. It was obvious Sigurd would want to spoil something nice for him, yet he fell for the trick like an idiot. His intelligence was the one thing that put him above his brothers and the one he took great pride in, to be made a fool wasn’t something he was going to let go.
As to Revna, it unnerved him that he hadn’t heard a word about her. Logically, Ivar knew she would be fine under Helga and Floki’s care, but the lack of news bothered him. It was also bothering him what Sigurd and Revna could possibly have talked about and why she didn’t say anything, but he was going to discover it one way or the other. She didn’t know how his brothers were and if not for Ubbe and that coat-to-be wolf, he would have kept them away from her longer. It was unlikely Revna was aware of Ivar’s infamy, he doubted she would be at ease with him if she did, but he knew Sigurd would go an extra length to make a mockery out of him.
But he would see to Sigurd later. he wanted to mend things, so he headed to Floki’s home first thing in the morning.
Once he sighted their house, he kept hidden and waited for Revna to leave to follow her quietly.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ivar followed Revna all the way to the beach. It was easy to keep hidden as she wasn't really paying attention to her surroundings. Once there, she chose a nice spot and sat down, taking a stick to draw on the sand. It was curious to see her when she thought she was alone, that deep in thought and distracted, so unlike her usual demeanor. Ivar could spend quite a while studying her if he wasn’t concerned with setting things straight.
He crawled to her and it wasn’t until he was fairly close that she took notice of him. When she did, she froze, staring at him with wide eyes like he was an apparition. By the time she came back to her senses, he was already sitting by her side.
“Revna.”
“Ivar.” She returned the greeting after a while, but it wholly lacked the joy he became familiar with.
Revna’s drawing caught Ivar’s attention. It was quite detailed and he was genuinely curious to know what it was about. It would serve as a good starter as well.
“What is it that you’re drawing?”
“Nothing of importance.”
She sounded detached, almost not there at all. He insisted:
“It’s nothing, yet you’re drawing it.”
She didn’t say anything, still staring at him as if not convinced he was there. Ivar urged her to answer:
“Tell me. Tell me what it is.”
Ivar almost thought she wouldn't talk to him at all, but alas, she did:
“There is a city…” she pointed with the stick, “much, much far from here. Great, rich. Different people trade here. Made of stone. Colorful… Many beautiful fabric… gold…”
She stopped. She usually did that when she couldn’t find the right words, but he wasn’t entirely sure that was all to it.
“Are you from there?”
“No.”
“Then why draw it?”
“Memory. It is good to remember places. Or you forget. One day, I may remember Kattegat elsewhere.”
Ivar was taken aback. He thought by now she would have accepted her fate, to hear that she considered leaving Kattegat struck him almost like betrayal. How could she? The goods were generous to show her the truth; she was adopted by one of the most faithful people he knew of, how could she not see how blessed she was?
With a quick swipe, Ivar wiped the drawing.
“Why?”
“The gods gave you a chance to live with us, to learn the truth yet you think of abandoning it?” He spoke with more heat than what he planned to do.
“I do not” she replied sharply “they put me here, they may put me elsewhere.”
So she did acknowledge the gods and their will, but her conclusion was what he didn’t like.
Annoyed and without another word, Revna prepared to stand up.
“Wait, where are you going?” Ivar asked, grabbing her hand before she could leave.
“Away.”
“Don’t. Stay. I want to talk to you.”
“Why?”
“Sit down.” Ivar said nicely, though his grip hadn’t loosened.
She obeyed and only when she was back to sitting at his side he released her hand. Revna remained in silence and so, Ivar spoke:
“What happens in the future is for the gods to decide. You should not tempt them.”
“They may… regardless.”
“You don't know that. They were generous in bringing you here, so don't speak like that.”
She didn't answer, so Ivar cut the chase and went straight to what was bothering him:
“Why haven’t you told me you met Sigurd?”
“He did not say he was your brother.”
“He never spoke about me? Not even once?”
“No.”
Ivar kept gauging her expression to decide if she was lying or not, but shining through was her annoyance. Had Sigurd badmouthed him to her, it wouldn’t surprise him in the slightest, but that he didn’t bothered Ivar. It was not like Sigurd to waste an opportunity to humiliate him.
“Why haven’t you told me?”
“You did not let.”
“You didn’t understand. Why haven’t you told me before?”
“Why? It was… mundane.”
“How so?”
She looked at him confused, so he tried again:
“What did you talk about?”
“Music. Nothing of importance. Mundane things.”
“Music?” Ivar asked, half amused.
“Yes. He plays an oud. I did not think one here. Too far. Too strange.”
In another moment, Ivar would have inquired about her interest in music and know more of her, but as of now his mind was working on figuring out Sigurd’s plan. He didn’t believe for a single second Sigurd’s interest in Revna was innocent, if she was telling the truth, he liked the appearance of it even less.
“I do not know what I did bad.” Revna interrupted his thoughts.
“‘What I did wrong’, you meant.” Ivar corrected her “Nothing. You didn’t do anything.”
“I do not understand.” She stated, her voice uncharacteristically subdued. He wanted to reach for her but she likely would slap his hand away.
“Of course you don't. You don't know my brothers.”
“I did not know he was your brother!”
“I heard you.”
Revna looked at him completely at loss. Of course she didn’t know about the strained relationship between him and Sigurd, that would be a long explanation and one he wanted to delay.
She parted her lips and Ivar waited for her to question him, but after a moment, she gave up whatever she wanted to say. They stood in silence, both of them not knowing what to speak next. It was probably a couple of minutes that felt dragged to both of them before Revna decided to speak:
“Goodbye, Ivar.”

Ragnar loves TV

Lives for the drama
Heartbroken when you tell him it’s scripted
Never recovers
Big on Euphoria (is team Maddy, obviously)
Lagertha
Freaked out at the TV
She’d rather experience all that stuff herself
Does like watching a movie sometimes, but it can’t be too sci-fi
Beats up filmbros if they come at Pride and Prejudice
Aslaug
She loves true crime
Sits down with a glass of wine she can periodically sip
Shakes her head at narrators that are boring
If you say true crime is lame, you’re banned from eating from her charcuterie board
Yes she makes them herself, yes they are perfect
Bjorn
Freaked out by the TV
Once he calms down he starts to like the mcu (derogatory)
‘there’s just too much wokeness’
Stfu Bjorn
Ubbe

HE’S A MAN AND A VIKING
Screams at jumpscares, throws the snacks in shock

Deeply relates to Raquelle in Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse
Don’t tell him you know he watches it or you won’t wake up tomorrow
Helga
Watches baking shows with Hvitserk
They have a whole ritual around it, and they never EVER miss it
Not even when there’s major events going down
Power outage? You bet Hvitserk has a fully charged powerbank to livestream the show with his mobile data
Helga bakes the treats from the prior week and eats them while watching
Floki
Watches the weird conspiracy shows that run at like 11pm
Fully believes them
Get him away from the TV
Like literally. He already is a flat earther, you don’t need to add to that
