I always find it very funny when certain 40k-fans call people in the hobby they disagree with „Tourists“. On the one hand, pretty often the person they try to insult has been like longer in the hobby than I have been alive, has multiple armies, goes to actually play the game and has read dozens if not hundreds of books. On the other hand, at least to me, it barely even registers as a insult. Because like beeing a tourist and going on vacation is fun! I love travelling around to diffrent places! I honestly prefer beeing a tourist and having a nice, long vacation than living in a place I apparently hate and want to leave with every retcon I dislike.
Also like, tourists are good for the economy!

"I think the fanbase treats the characters better than the writers. The writing team sees them as tools in storytelling, while the fans see them as people". But they're not people. They're not real, they're fictional characters. They're pixels on your screen. They're supposed to be tools in storytelling, aren't they? Yes, you can grow emotionally attached to them, but don't forget they're not real.

I’m in a sad mood, so ofc hellspawn angst and sad spawn Astarion ending occupy my mind. in advance I want to say that I am not familiar with the topic of how the afterlife works in DND, so i'm sorry if it doesn't make sense at all. It's just some picture which sits in my mind since playing Astarion's origin. I'm bad at writing fics, but i _need_ to write these thoughts somewhere bc hellspawn has me in a chokehold. (as it should be) btw I listen Trailing Memory by Son Lux while imagining it.
After defeating brain Astarion had to hide from the sun. Before he had time to get used to the sweet caress of the sun on his skin after 200 years of fear of it, it hurts him again and now not only physically. It took away the right to say the last goodbye to the person dearest to him. No. It cruelly took away his last chance to persuade Karlach return to Avernus. Convince her to be alive. To be alive _together_.
«Maybe never seeing the sun again is just the price of freedom.» — he said. What good is it to regain your freedom only to be immediately refused to share it with Karlach?
Astarion recalled their conversation at the graveyard when they visited her parents. She tried not to show it, but he felt how afraid she was not knowing what to expect after death. «There is no such thing as death. There is only change» — her mother thought. Her father used to say that «that was a load of woo. gone is gone». He didn’t want to hurt her, agreeing with his father’s words about the futility of asking the gods for favours. Would her father be true to himself and so harsh as usual if he knew what fate was destined for his daughter?
Astarion knew Karlach liked mum’s idea. He assumed that in this way it would be easier for her to let go of the world that she had missed all these years and which she had not long to enjoy. If death is a change, then her mother’s hair could be a grass she liked to lay down in the early mornings or her father is the air which she is making her last breaths. If death is a change, then maybe she won’t leave this world at all and she would join them. So be it then.
And Karlach is gone. When night fell, he came to the pier. Some of the ash was carried away by the wind during the day (Karlach, is it your father lead you the way?) He wanted to know what she had already seen on the other side while he had to hide here in the shadows. Alone again.
«Don’t leave me, Karlach. Lead me.»
The dawn. A strong wind blew again. Two ashes mixed in the air. No one to be seen.

I know the genie is out of the bottle and you can't go back but dear GOD I hate the mainstreamification of fandom so much
I do NOT want authors or showrunners or actors to acknowledge us or talk about fanfic or fanart or fan theories! I do NOT want people asking questions of the canon creators and getting them answered (make up your own answers, like god intended!) I do NOT want companies making jokey advertisements aimed toward fandom!
I know that fandom was never entirely underground but like... I miss that fourth wall existing, you know?

The reason I love the Red Hood being a crime lord instead of a vigilante is that Crime Alley, functionally, doesn't have the same problems as the rest of Gotham. Their main problem isn't the mad Rogues running around, it's the cycle of poverty, violence, and crime that they're all stuck in. And you know what one of the main ways to combat this is? Community. Organizing. Working together.
Except Crime Alley can't just choose to do that. Who would choose to join such a risky proposition instead of a gang that you know can help protect your family? So the Red Hood comes in and he looks like he's just creating another gang, the same as all the others.
Except he's serious about not selling drugs to kids or people in danger of overdosing. Except he protects the working girls fiercely, even if it loses him money. Except all the money he does make goes straight into the community if it's not making sure his employees are alright.
Working within the system is often a necessary measure to fix the system. Except the system in the case of Crime Alley isn't the government that abandoned them, it's the volatile, terrible gang set up. So Red Hood didn't just work within the system, he took it over and made it work for him instead.
Is this perfect? No. The other bats have valid disagreements with Jason's way of doing things. But he is doing so much good.

Not to out myself as someone that’s been on tumblr for too long, but I’m so sad to see this new trend of people saying “I like this thing, even though the show isn’t airing anymore.” Like? That’s how things work! Keep enjoying them! Art doesn’t just vanish when it’s not airing, and it wasn’t made to be exclusively viewed live! 10+ years ago, the idea of saying “Ah, I’m still here in this fandom 2 years after the show was cancelled 😳” would have been BONKERS!
All these kids saying “It’s so sad the shows gone,” no it’s not!!! I saw your fanart yesterday! Last week you told me about my favorite character’s music playlist!!! I saw them running around in your AMV!
Where’s the longevity?? It was made for you!!! Not TV!!! It was made for keeps!!! Keep it!!! Please!!! That’s how art stays alive!!!

I don't know who needs to hear this
But if you go into the comments section on AO3
And type
Tumblr media
Then replace image url (keep the " marks) with the url of a picture
You can leave fan art in the comments of a fic

Don’t Add Fanfiction To Your Goodreads Shelf
Hi folks, I know some of you like to use Goodreads to track all your reading and don’t want to distinguish between books and fanfiction.
I am, however, begging you not to do this. It is extremely jarring and disconcerting to be a fic author and find your works somewhere in the wild where you did not personally put them. Fics are not books, are not published in the same way as books, and exist in a precarious legal space.
Please don’t attempt to elide the separation that exists between fandom and the world of official publishing.
update to add: for those folks learning about this for the first time and freaking out, I did a reblog of this with guidelines about how to get your fic taken down!

i just read about the "narcissism of small differences," aka the idea that the more a community has in common, the more likely the people in it are to engage in interpersonal feuds and mutual ridicule because of hypersensitivity to minor differences perceived in each other, and i knew there was a reason my time in academia and fandom felt oddly similar lmao

Lately I've been pondering alot on footwear in the wizarding/wixen world...
There's so much to tap into fashion wise...like what the hell does just "robes" even mean Terf-face McRowling????
And I feel like the fan base has done such a wonderful job to portray their own beautiful and unique designs and descriptions... but not so much on shoes 🤔
Like the most generic thing is for them to be walking around in muggle shoes or "loafers" or "dragonhide boots"....
Hell no. These mfs are walking around rocking THESE bad bois!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
✨️S L I P P E R S✨️
At least for dress robes, formal wear, and those who are fun, fancy biatches on the daily......

Please, please, please stop doing this shit:
"My story doesn't fit with these tags but I'm going to add them, anyway, because they're popular and it'll get my story attention."
"My fic doesn't actually include this ship but I'll tag it like that because that ship is popular."
"Yes, this is pretty much an original fic, but I'm going to use these character names and label it as this ship to get people to read it."
"Yes, my fic includes this pairing/these characters/these warnings but I won't tag them because people avoid those tags."
People have admitted to all of the above. People have admitted to lying about the content of their fic, deceiving readers, and omitting necessary tags for the point of increasing readership. Knock that shit off. Writers and artists are already struggling with readers viewing works as only content to be casually consumed and used up. We don't need writers treating themselves like influencers and their works like "content" to be peddled. Don't abuse tags and don't abuse readers. It makes the entire tag system useless when you do this shit.
And yes: if you flaunt breaking TOS to increase your numbers, I won't hesitate to report your ass. Knock it off.

Why must life require things? Why can't I just snuggle in bed eating chocolate and writing/ reading fanfiction?
