What did you think of Scott Snyder’s Death Metal?
Anonymous asked: So, Death Metal review?
My first backlog asks answered since the semi-shuttering of the blog! Just reread the whole Snyder Metal -> Justice League -> Death Metal cycle and I can confidently say Death Metal is the worst thing he's ever written by a long shot, as if he sat down one day and consciously thought through how to prune all his best aspects, or at least most of them while subsuming whatever was left to his absolute worst instincts. Fully discarding buildup and horror and character and the context of the preceding work in favor of a brainless, soulless mashup of continuity and iconography. Doesn't help that Capullo comes as close to fully phoning it in as he ever has, and that really the pair already did the version of this premise they actually wanted in Last Knight on Earth. A handful of great tie-ins can't change that this is a calamitous low point in the careers of all involved.
