Why did you write two versions of Hunger Pangs?
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE AND IS ONE MORE “VALID” THAN THE OTHER?
I get a lot of questions when people find out I wrote two versions of Hunger Pangs (Phangs). To answer that second question first, the only difference is that one contains explicit sexual content, and the other merely alludes to it.
The Flirting with Fangs edition (red cover) contains multiple scenes that depict sexual acts, either solo or partnered. (link)
The Fluff and Fangs edition (blue cover) is less explicit. I say less because while the scene(s) fade to black, some elements of physical affection are still shown, along with a fairly involved conversation about consent and kink. This is in the latter half of Chapter 28, and as noted on my website, you can skip this part if it makes you uncomfortable and not miss anything important to either the plot or character development. Both versions contain heat ratings and content warnings on my website. I can’t put it in/on the books themselves because Amazon is going after authors for mentioning content warnings (link), so when in doubt, check www.joydemorra.com or send me a message!
And no, one version is not more “valid” than the other. Both are canon. If it helps, think of them as parallel universes running side by side down the narrative timeline. The plot and character development remain the same; the scenes have just been altered to accommodate reader preference.
THEN WHY DO THIS AT ALL?
As stated above, I wrote two different versions primarily to accommodate reader preference. When I first started writing Hunger Pangs: TLB, I was widely known on Tumblr for being “that erotica editor.” (link) I used to be a ghostwriter for my publishing house, too, so chances are some of you have already read my work under another author’s name*. A large chunk of my professional life has been spent writing sexually explicit content. It’s what I was then known and popular for, so it never occurred to me that anyone who was sex averse or didn’t enjoy reading about sex would be interested in my work.
And then those exact people started messaging me to let me know they were super excited about my work, couldn’t wait to buy a copy and would just skip past the sex parts that made them uncomfortable.
And that didn’t sit right with me.
Phangs is a bit of a weird project. It was started via a Tumblr shitpost (link) and grew from there. It was funded entirely by the support of my Patreon, which people kept supporting even after it took me years longer to finish it than initially planned because my health took a proverbial nose dive into the tenth circle of hell. It is not an exaggeration to say my Patreon and Tumblr kept me alive during that time. You kept our lights on and put what little food I could eat into my fridge. You supported me both physically and emotionally during one of the worst times of my life. And during that time, I wrote the entire Phangs series, assuming it would be edited and published posthumously**. It was both my swan song and a parting gift. A means of saying thank you for all your support over the years and the fervent hope you’d feel my love on every page. Because never doubt this, I wrote Phangs for you. Phangs is a love letter to fandom from start to finish. It’s written specifically to appeal to fandom and all the things we love about it.
So when people told me they were going to buy it but skip parts of it, I felt the need to make sure they were getting equal amounts of content for their money. So the “fluff” version of the narrative was born, replacing the sex-based scenes with more emotional and “fluffy” but still intimate interactions that keep the character arcs and plot intact.
For the first book, I tried to keep the scenes as similar in theme as possible. That’s why Chapter 28 still features a frank discussion around kink and consent, as a large part of Vlad’s character arc is learning that his wants and desires matter, but more importantly, so do his boundaries. But I also purposefully wrote it so that you can skip away after that conversation and not miss anything in the lead-up to the fade to black/implied sex scene. As the series progresses, the scenes may differ more as I play around having fun with it. But the fact remains that the characterization and plot will always stay true.
It’s merely about what kind of reading experience you want.
Do I expect other authors to do this? Absolutely not. This is a labor of love. The “fluff” version being popular is merely a bonus that enables me to keep writing. So thank you. I’m off to keep working on the next story.
*Before anyone asks, no, I can’t tell you who. I signed NDAs that are still in effect.
**Jokes on me, I guess, because I lived, and now I have to edit and rewrite all 500-f*cking-k of it.

How to join the Transgender Ancestor Rite: an FAQ on our updated format
What is it?
an annual, non-denominational ritual honoring transgender individuals who have passed on
an act of solidarity with the lineage of transgender ancestors who have come before us and paved the way, as well as with the descendants who will come after us when we are gone
a chance to share tenderness and kindness with the restless spirits of transgender people who lost their lives to violence
an opportunity for living transgender folks, including those who have lost trans loved ones, to grieve, mourn, and pray
a labor of love from a multiracial group of trans spirit workers, each at various stages of study in ancestor veneration practices, who have been putting on this ritual since 2014
When is it?
the ritual should take place on or around the Trans Day of Remembrance on November 20th, preferably within a week
most of us do it at night but any time of day is fine
if you need to do it a little before or after the 20th, don't sweat it
Where is it?
wherever you are!
groups are welcome to host local events and inform us about them, but the ritual itself takes place in a location of your own choosing, usually at home
if you have access to a local TDOR event that could incorporate some or all of this ritual, you are welcome to bring it there
most of the organizers have historically been located in the northeastern US but you don’t have to be
Who is it for?
it honors everyone from this year’s Trans Day of Remembrance official list, as well as any other deaths of trans individuals from the year that participants wish to include
illness losses, violent deaths, suicides, and natural deaths are all eligible for inclusion
it includes, cumulatively, all transgender deaths from previous years as well, named on the TDOR lists and unnamed, throughout history
it honors and praises the trans ancestors, people who were alive both recently and longer ago, who feel themselves in connection with us, who have received the care and honor we offered through previous years’ rituals, who are bright and well and who can tend the line from the other side
participants can be trans or cisgender, of any or no denomination or faith
Does it cost money?
nope! this is an anticapitalist affair
you can buy incense and offerings if you like, but you don’t need to spend money to participate
Why are y’all doing this?
honestly this could take pages and pages about the importance of this work and of soothing the troubled dead and tending our ancestral line et cetera et cetera ad infinitum but the short version is
we gotta
our ancestors require it and we’re making sure they get it
Okay, how does it work?
during the ritual, you sit or stand at an altar, light a candle, put out a glass of fresh water, and read a prayer
you may also make any other offerings you feel called to do
if so moved, you read the names of the dead from this year's TDOR list and call on our bright and well ancestors to tend to these newly passed souls
all the people participating in all the different places in the world help create a rising raft of energy that is greater than the sum of its parts, delivering the restless dead among our line into the care of our bright and well ancestors, who, in turn, also care for us, the living
Prayers? I thought you said this was non-denominational.
prayers can involve divinity, or they can be kind and soothing words to say to the dead
you can look through our prayers tag to get ideas and inspiration, but feel free to find poems on your own and/or write something yourself as well
you are welcome to include deity or not, as you prefer
the organizers of this ritual incorporate gods and spirits in our practices but you by no means need to
on the flip side, if you want your gods involved, feel free to do so in whatever respectful manner works for you
What do I need on my altar?
the basics are an altar cloth (white is traditional; a bandana works), a cup to be filled with water, and a new or dedicated candle (white is traditional here also but follow your instincts)
other great offerings include cut flowers, portions of your food and drink (though alcohol is not advised with restless spirits), tobacco, honey, pictures and/or names of the deceased, art, music, dancing, and any gender paraphernalia you think the ancestors might like
do not put pictures of living people on the altar
it can be as simple or ornate as you choose: the important parts are the candle, the cup, and the cloth
Isn’t it sketchy to be working with dead people?
a little bit
it is much less sketchy since our format change in 2022, at which point this ritual shifted from working directly with restless spirits (dicey) to interfacing with them only through our cadre of elevated bright and well ancestors who have already benefited from previous years' rituals
we advise that you cleanse or purify in whatever way you prefer, ideally before and after the working
if you’re in a Western (especially American Christian) culture that views death as The End and discussion of death as taboo, consider reading up on cultures where ancestor veneration is a normal part of everyday life (hint: it’s most of them)

Hi! Fan of yr comic here. I just wanted to know, Is this comic Sonadow? Cause it kinda feels like it going there. I don't know if it's just me being suspicious or...
depends on what you define as "being sonadow"
does thoam feature sonic and shadow getting closer as people and getting to know eachother better, learning to trust eachother and unlearn wrong assumptions about one another, which raises their deep respect for eachother while simultaneously fueling their rivalry? yeah. but is thoam a boring flat romance drama or is it an action adventure with cool monsters and character development and deep themes that make you lie awake at night
the comic speaks for itself, i hope.
I get asked this a lot and at this point i just want to point this out, bc i forgot if i already had done so (again bc i get this a lot):
I'm not denying the queerness of the characters. my comic is inherently queer, and the characters being queer does influence the way they interact with the world, BUT. that is not what the story is about. this story is about coping with insecurity, about growing from your mistakes, about finding and accepting your true self (just identity as a whole) and accepting help. especially accepting help.
and also about monsters and cool fight scenes and fun character dynamics and the beauty of the world and friendship and about how things aren't as black and white as we'd like them to be sometimes.
i put a lot of work weaving those themes into the story, the character moments and world building and so on and so forth, so it's always a little disappointing when people see sonic and shadow growing closer as characters and reduce ALL OF THAT to "shadow smile for 1 second so gay cute wow"
like yes, they're gay (in an aromantic way), but that's not what this is about im begging you to read the panels that don't have these two in frame as well

Hyrule
"Of course we're married!" The words left your mouth before you truly registered what you were saying.
Both of you freeze and share a look even when the face of the local wasn't convinced.
You start blush something fierce. "Ok... we're not married-"
"Yet." Hyrule blurts, also blushing up a storm. "We're not married yet. We'll be wed in the summer."
You nod, adding along to the fib. You're grateful that he's playing along but you also have no idea what you're doing.
The local shakes their head. "And you decided to come to our village in the meantime? With all yooouuur..."
"Family. Brother's. Cousin's. Their Uncle." Hyrule grins awkwardly. "They wouldn't just let us come on our own."
"I see..." Said in the tone of someone who does, in fact, not see. "Chaperones for the lucky couple then?"
"Something like that." You agree, shrugging slightly.
"Well then, I suppose that you'll try to have some time to yourselves, right?" The glint in the stranger's eyes changes tone and you find that you're not entirely sure if like where they're going with this.
"...yeah..." Hyrule looks over to you for confirmation. "Something like that."
"Well I can help you set up your rooms at the inn." They grin, seemingly innocent. "That way everything will all be set up and they would have no reason to bother you two."
"Oh, that's a lovely offer..." You scramble to try and get this guy off of your tail. "But we wouldn't want to be a burden."
"Nonsense!" They chuckle. "I'm the owner. Come on. Let me check you all in. I'll even give a discount for the first three nights."
You can already hear Legend's voice yelling at you in the back of your head. Whether it's for finding yourself in this situation to begin with, or for not jumping on the deal as fast as you should, you're not sure yet. Maybe it's both.
"Th-thank you." Hyrule nods, squeezing your hand tighter. "We appreciate it."
You nods in agreement, following the stranger through the town and into the inn where they look up their available room for your group to stay the next couple of days.
"And one room for the couple." They hand you the keys to your room separately with conspiring wink.
The blush on your faces is real. "Thank you, again. Kindly."
"Anytime you find yourselves back in our humble village, just come to my inn!" They say proudly.
You sigh internally. How long will you have to put up this act?
"Honey! Who are you talking to?" A voice shouts from the back.
"A newlyweds." They grin. "Gave them a discount on a room since their whole family is visiting too."
"Oh how nice!"
You cringe further. There's no way you're going to be able to keep this to yourselves. You can hear the teasing now. It's going to be a long three days.
Wind
"It's not like you're going to have anybody that likes you anyway." A bully taunts you, pushing you hard enough for you to fall over.
You grit your teeth, bracing for impact. They kick your leg while you're down. You make no verbal reply
"What are you going to do about it?" Another mimics the kick as you try to stand up again. You fall harshly onto your knee. Something tears and you can feel the spot begin to grew wet and warm.
"Leave me alone." You say through gritted teeth. You can feel your eyes begin to tear up. You try your hardest to keep them down but between the pain, both emotional and physical, you're unable to keep them at bay for every long.
"Oh look they're crying!"
"Shut up!" A voice cries out. It's enraged and near and familiar. "Get away from them!"
"Hey!" They scream. "You can't just bring a sword around these parts!"
You wince and look up. Wind is standing over you. One hand is covering you while the other holds his sword, pointing it at the bullies around you.
"Take it from me then." Wind spits. Literally. Right into the leader's eye.
He jumps back, using one hand to wipe it off of his face. "I'm going to tell."
"I saw you kick them." Wind growls. "Twice. I saw you deserve it."
They all shift awkwardly and even jump away when Wind fakes a strike. "Leave."
He doesn't need to say it again.
You sniffle and pick yourself up, looking over your injuries. "I'm bleeding."
Wind drops down next to you to check it out himself. He looks sad. "I'm sorry I wasn't fast enough.... But Hyrule can fix you up. Come on, I'll help you."
You sigh, hitting the ground pathetically in defeat. "I'm fine... Just don't tell Twilight."
Wind frowns. He might actually do that.
You sniffle and stand, brushing yourself off. The tears that you can't fully fight back roll down your cheeks. "It's not like they said anything wrong."
"What did they say?" Wind uses his sleeve to dry your tears. He's not going to say that they hit you, even if they did. It's clear that not what hurt the most.
"Look at me." You laugh pathetically and gesture to yourself. "They said that I was never going to get married because no one would want to marry me.... And like.... I don't have to get married....but I would like someone to like me-"
"I like you." Wind frowns.
"No, Link. Not like that-"
"I'll marry you." He scrunches his eyebrows, fully serious. "When we get big enough, I'll find you again and marry you. I promise."
You cough and shake your head. "That's not how it works."
"I'll make it work." Wind grins, taking your hand. "Now let's go find the others and teach those bullies a lesson."
"Wait- what?"
"Let's go!"
"Wind, wait!"
Four
"I know I promised you that I was going to help you with this but you're going to have to explain the plan to me again." You adjusted the clothes around you for what had to be the nth time already.
Four looked just as uncomfortable as you felt, which honestly, helped you feel a little bit better about going into this. He huff and puffed and adjusted his hair time and time again. Somehow, you had always missed that his headband always seemed to cover up a cowlick and since his hair was in a ponytail for the evening, that little cowlick was giving him a reason to panic ever so slightly.
You lick your thumb and brush over it to help him out. "The plan?"
"Ri-right." Four clears his throat and pulls out a map of sorts. There's writing on it but it's not like you know how to read that. "The entrance is here. The others will meet up here at the this gate. From there we want to act as naturally as possible that that both you and I can get passed the guards and get into the building. The guys will be a distraction."
You nod. "Do you think they'll blow something up?"
"Most likely."
"We can never come here again after this."
"Oh yeah."
You grin and stick out your hand. "Ready?"
Four seems to look at your for a moment before he registers that you're waiting for him. "Yes, yes! Coming."
He takes your hand and take a deep breath. "Let's make this quick."
You both enter the party together, arm in arm with large smiles on your faces. You don't have a problem with mingling or finding the gate to let the rest of your group. But you quickly run into a problem.
Neither of you made a cover story.
"Well don't the two of your look lovely!" Another guest stops you in your tracks. An older woman with bright eyes and a kind face. "Are you related?"
"Husband."
"To be."
You both look at each other in various states of shock. That wasn't part of the plan! Why did you just say that!?
The woman swoons slightly. "Oh how romantic, I remember when I was your age. My husband and I used to talk for hours about the time when we would truly be wed-"
You both share awkward smiles. You don't wish to be rude, but your distraction will be coming any moment nd you need to take advantage of it.
"Ever since my husband died, I've been thinking about how he used to always come to my rescue." She sniffles. "Well, just the other day-"
The explosions happens. Screams and manical laughter fill the soon to be smoke covered room.
"We need to head to safety ma'am." Four grabs your hand and her, and drags her the edge of the room. "Stay here, we'll go get help."
You do not get help.
You continue with your plan to collect some stolen items to continue with your quest. Four's hand has a tight grip on your the entire time. His cheeks are pink and your chest feels warm and light.
Surely you didn't have anything to drink tonight, right?

Something I've talked about a bit but haven't really provided a definition for is emotional permanence.
When people think of object permanence, they usually know that this is the understanding that objects exist even when they are not seen.
Emotional permanence is the same idea except with emotions. It is the concept that other emotions exist when they are not felt.
It is not uncommon for people with BPD to struggle with emotional permanence. (This is not exclusive to people with BPD though.)
For me, this means that when I feel happy, I feel beyond happy and nothing is wrong and nothing could be wrong. It's the only emotion that exists.
On the contrary, when I am sad everything is so bad and terrible and cannot get better. It's all there is.
My emotions in the moment become my one true emotion and I forget that others exist and cannot recall them in memories or at all.
This might explain why we might constantly doubt that others care about us. We may feel reassured in the moment, but given a little time of not interacting with the person we got reassurance from, we may forget what reassurance feels like.
When it comes for coping with it, I haven't been able to come up with a lot but here are some ideas:
Keep a journal of your memories and write the associated feelings with it, including the physical reactions to those feelings.
When dealing with sadness, or other extreme negative emotions, try and do something that makes you feel something else. (Note that sometimes we need to feel negative emotions to move past them, but it's important to not get stuck in them.) Is there a movie that never fails to make you laugh? A song that you can't help but dance to and feel happy/amused (For me, this is "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" or "I'll Make a Man Out of You")
With the last point in mind, keep a list of things that make you feel happy. When you feel happy because you got your favourite coffee drink, or any small thing that makes you smile, write it down on a list. This might allow you to partake in activities that can bring that happy feeling back out when you feel stuck like you could never possibly be happy again.
Practice mindfulness. (Note that this does not have to be breathing, or detailed imagery. That doesn't work for everyone, myself included. Here are some other mindfulness ideas.)
When it comes to needing reassurance from another person, keep screenshots on hand of them reassuring you, keep letters, cards they've given you, etc. You might even be able to ask a loved one to record a voice recording for you to listen to when you need. You could also keep a list of things they've done to show they love you. (For example, my list includes my partner telling me to make sure i wear my seatbelt and making sure my favourite juice is in constant supply in the fridge.)

Hi im a different annon from earlier but just wanted to ask in relation to theirs what should we do if we think our ask has been eaten by Tumblr glitches send it again or ask about it etc
[OOC] I'd actually prefer if people didn't chase up specific letters or resend them. The issue is that I also just don't have the capacity (or inclination!) to answer everyone's letters.
Sometimes a letter isn't appropriate for the blog for any number of reasons. Off the the top of my head, those might be: it's too complicated to answer well in this format; it's too similar to something already answered here or on the podcast; the subject matter veers into something I'm not comfortable addressing; the writing is otherwise inaccessible (I'm not a stickler for grammar but a lack of spelling and punctuation can make it very hard to read); or I don't think the response will be interesting, either for me to write or for others to read. And unlike the podcast, I can't edit the submissions before I use them!
Also, sometimes I just don't get around to someone's letter for a while for other reasons - I might love the idea and want to do it justice, but don't have time to pay it the attention it deserves, or there's actually been a few of the same creature recently and I want to change it up.
At the end of the day, I neither want to have to explain to people why I haven't answered them, nor want to establish a culture where people expect everything they send to be answered, or answered in a specific time frame. It wouldn't be fair on anyone, myself included.

Hello! I hope this ask finds you well!! I just had a quick question, I saw that there might be a redstone and skulk playlist and all the songs I've seen mentioned as being on it or might be added to it all look really good and I'm always looking for songs so I though I might as well ask if the playlist is public or otherwise available? No worries if not! I just figured I might as well ask :D, thank you for your time and have a lovely day!
There are a couple playlists! I thought I'd made it searchable on the blog but as I currently can't find it, apparently not! Horrendous!
There are, technically, two playlists. I have the Tanguish playlist [which is actually the catch-all fic playlist. There are some songs for HK, WK, the Demon, and Tango on there, though 96% of the songs are Tanguish vibes.] The other one is the Helsknight playlist, which is just Helsknight character vibes [though one or two are WK songs, or songs I think are descriptive of his relationships with different characters.]
The Spotify playlists are long, and constantly being updated. I add/delete songs almost daily. They're, first and foremost, my personal playlists for getting inspiration and keeping the characters in character. If that's not really your thing, I recommend copying the playlist and pairing it down!
The YouTube playlist was exported from Spotify, is much shorter and hasn't been updated since last year. I haven't sat down and thrown everything into a convenient converter yet XD but it is still available at least!
