“Bruno left our family because you always saw the worst in him”
Tumblr media
“Bruno didn’t care about this family”
it kinda just hit me that bruno would have heard this entire interaction between abuela alma and mirabel, where he would have heard his own mother saying that he (bruno) “didnt care about the family” which we all know is completely not true, and that she “always saw the worst in him”
now the stuff that bruno says where he stands up to abuela breaks my heart even more, especially when you can hear how hurt he sounds and looks when he says
Tumblr media
“I don’t care what you think of me”

If Alma has a million fans, then I am one of them.
If Alma has ten fans, then I am one of them.
If Alma has only one fan then that is me.
If Alma has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth.
If the world is against Alma, then I am against the world.

The Role of the Sage in Kung Fu Panda
Thinking about the trinity in Kung Fu Panda.
Po, the young hero. His journey is two-fold: to find his own path, and to recognise his own worth.
Shifu, the mentor. His journey is to both love and care for those he trains, and to have enough objectivity to see them for who they are.
Oogway, the sage. His role is to guide the young people who will come after him, and once that job is done, leave the material world.
I think there's a reason why the "sage" role frequently dies in stories. Not just because it is a necessary catalyst for the heroes and the young mentors to rise to the occasion, but perhaps because that is their actual journey in the story.
It's difficult to let go. It's difficult to trust things that you've worked hard for to be carried on in the hands of others. It's difficult to see all that must be done and how to do it, but have the wisdom to leave this to others.
Every step of the way, Master Oogway has allowed Shifu to make his own blunders, and grow as a mentor. He allowed Shifu to send a messenger to Chorh-Gom Prison, knowing pretty well that this act would allow Tai Lung to escape. He allowed Shifu to train Po in his own way, even knowing the mental state Shifu was in and the unique needs of Po.
Although all these things seem pretty natural, for a less experienced sage, I'm sure it would have been difficult to do. I can see another version of Oogway, who perhaps is more anxious and less at peace, struggling with controlling Shifu and his students to make sure they were perfect (in fact, we see plenty of "sage" roles do so in other media, such as Grandma Wu from Turning Red and Abuela from Encanto).
(As an aside, we also see Master Oogway's failures. Although framed more as Shifu's failures, Master Oogway also failed Tai Lung. He should have stepped in to intercept Shifu's toxic way of training his son. He should have also provided more guidance for Tai Lung instead of turning away. Master Oogway has mastered the art of detachment, but he did not master the art of guiding others until the main events of Kung Fu Panda.)
While the growths of Po and Shifu were plain to see in Kung Fu Panda, it's also a treat to see Master Oogway complete the cycle of life completely in mastery of his role in life.

Encanto Headcanons!!
So I saw Encanto a few days ago and I literally have not stopped thinking about it so... HEADCANONS!
Some of these are specific to post-canon, some aren't.
One of the things being done to lighten Luisa's workload is Antonio just telling the donkeys to go back in the barn
Dolores didn't high-key snitch on Bruno living in the walls because she relates to knowing things other people don't want to know/don't want you to know
Camilo has a stash of tea somewhere for when Pepa gets stressed
Dolores' room has a bunch of things in it that muffle sound, but also a bunch of things that make interesting sounds
Pepa and Julieta's rooms have aspects of them which also cater to their respective husbands because of how important they are to them
Bruno's favorite game is chess, but he never follows the rules, he just starts making up ridiculous plotlines and derails everything like four moves in. Everyone learns to just go along with it.
Mirabel's glasses are magically reinforced (how else do you explain them not getting disastrously scratched up when she falls face first into a ton of sand?)
Isabela gets commissioned to dye clothing after she realizes she can
A good half of the village just calls Alma "abuela"
Luisa likes to do things like woodworking. The more delicate things don't always turn out the best, but she enjoys it anyway.

As someone with massive family issues
Can we FUCKING STOP MAKING KIDS FORGIVE SHITTY PARENTING!!!!
No I don't fucking care about your generational trauma why am I suffering for YOUR past. I get it, but that's no excuse. Go fuck yourself.
Yes this about that crunchy mf Abuela. IM UPSET.
"Forgiving is how you heal." Thats some bullshit people say so they can justify letting toxic people get away with it. Fuck OFF.
I'm still so annoyed--
Let's have a movie where the parents or something fuck up, and the child acknowledges that their past is why they're like that but STILL continue to go on their way cuz you can't just brush over what happened with some pretty damn words.
(I will NEVER support the 'I forgive my shitty family' plot. It's weak, it's terrible. The literal worst.)
Generational trauma is a SHITTY thing in POC households and it needs to stop being treated as a oh so this is why, that's okay then! NO FUCK YOU.
I'm bitter and I would sell my family to SPACE if it meant I could have peace without stress.

Alma Saves Pedro
Cause she too og to let him just like that
-----
Alma watched as her husband's blood flooded the river, the golden light of the candle in front of her momentarily forgotten as she watched everything happen. She felt the ground shake and she saw mountains closing in on her, her triplets, and the townsfolk behind them. She looked at Pedro, who lay in the river. But...he wasn't floating. No, no he was sinking. His chest was, albeit barely, moving and his eyes weren't glazed over.
That means he is still alive.
She can still save him.
Alma clutched her triplets close. Using the last of what little strength she had, she hobbled forward, her determination pushing her. She wadded into the river, her hand reaching out. She could hear the other townspeople behind her protesting, but she wasn't listening. She needed to save Pedro. She had to.
Her free arm shot into the water, frantically moving around, searching. "Come on, come on...!" Her hand brushed against something, clothing. A shirt. She grabbed and yanked as hard as she could--Pedro emerged, sputtering blood and water. His drooping eyes looked into Alma's and he say nothing but pure love and dedication.
"Till death do us part..." Alma heaved and looked down at Pedro. "I'm not ready to part yet, mi amor," she said. She looked up, calling out for help. Two men quickly dropped their bags and things, rushing to help Alma pull Pedro out, while a few women helped her out of the river, ensuring she and her triplets were ok. Pedro was quickly pulled aside, and Alma sat next to him, holding his hand.
Pedro looked up at Alma, smiling gently. The candle (which had still been lit and was glowing very brightly), lit up his face, and Alma had tears in her eyes as she watch one of the town doctors tend to Pedro's chest wound. He tried to speak but the doctor instructed him not to, so he didn't lose any more blood as he wrapped up his chest, holding it closed. Something about neesing to sew him up as soon as possible. But Alma wasn't listening. She knew didn't need to hear Pedro. She was just glad he was alive.
Alma watched as he was carried off on a horse, towards the giant house that had just appeared on the hill, among the other houses that had formed a small village of some kind. A kind woman, an old nurse, wrapped Alma and her triplets in a blanket, guiding them to follow behind her husband and the other medical team. "You must really love your husband don't you?" She asked, wrapping a warm hand around Alma's shoulder as the last of the mountains closed up.
"More than anything. I couldn't let him die. I couldn't let him go," Alma confessed, looking down at her babies who were now staring wide-eyed at their mother.
"I believe you. I really do. You were brave, and, well, maybe a little dumb to do that," The nurse smiled, her wrinkles creasing as she looked at Alma, and the mother laughed softly under her breath as she entered the house (which waved at her. Now she had seen it all.) "But...I believe it's a miracle you managed to save him."
Alma looked into her free hand where her and Pedro's wedding candle was. It pulsed with some kind of energy, glowing impossibly bright. Her face softened as she was guided to sit down. "Yeah. It was a miracle huh?"
