#Empire's Endgame
Quote
While the threat of death from a terrorist attack is seen as violence from which the state is obligated to protect its citizens, premature death as a result of not having the means to keep oneself and one’s family alive is, most often, considered the failing of an individual and their family. Keeping citizens alive is only necessary when the threat is posed by deviant Others, not by the slower, but more pervasive, more deadly, violence of post-welfare capitalism. Again, the patriarch will not have anyone else coming into his home and harming his children, but if they die or are killed on his watch then that is nobody else’s business. When large numbers of people die suddenly due to structural violence, such as was the case in the Grenfell Tower fire, the coronial and legal process is only interested in the immediate causes of death. Once this is determined, the matter of premature death is laid to rest. Whilst the law has never been concerned with the individual as embedded in a social reality, its depoliticising role is amplified in a context in which the state has increasingly withdrawn from providing for its citizens’ basic needs. The law plays an important role in legitimising the state patriarch’s organised neglect and cruelty towards its citizens and those within its jurisdiction.

Forever thinking about S1-S2 Mike and how his relationship with Will developed over time.
People always talk about Mike pulling away from Will because of his growing feelings towards him, but what about their collective trauma?
Mike watched them pull his best friend’s body out from the quarry. He saw what everyone said was the dead body of the person he cared about most. And then he came back.
Will basically came back from the dead for Mike. And in season two, when Will was going through the flash backs, Mike tried to hang onto him and support him as best he could. Mike couldn’t protect him from the upside down the first time, but he could this time. He was dedicated to protecting Will from the horrors he had been through.
But once Will was possessed, I think Mike pulled away a little. He realized he couldn’t protect Will the way he wanted to. He couldn’t save him. But El could. So he pulled away. He couldn’t bear to lose Will. He couldn’t bear to watch him slip from his grasp a third time. So he made El his priority, to ensure that she stopped all of this once and for all, so he could have his Will back.
Mike doesn’t want El to be his super hero. Mike doesn’t want El to be free from the upside down. He wants El to make Will free from the episode down. She needs to be Will’s super hero, because Mike can’t be.

Remember when Clarke was writing a list of everyone who would be saved if the world ended again, and Bellamy told her “if I’m on that list you’re on that list. write it down or I will” and then he wrote her name down because she still couldn’t and then he placed his hand on her shoulder and she rested her head on it??? Bc I think JRoth forgot

Britain is not a happy place. The market-oriented prosperity promised by Thatcherism and New Labour has proved for many to be hollow. While some aspects of the post-war consensus remain influential and continue to be circulated as the underlying common sense of UK political life, in reality the NHS and council homes that defined the boom years of the 1950s and 1960s are being privatised and stripped to the bone, accelerating the crises in housing, health and social care. The austerity imposed on other parts of the welfare state which followed the 2008 financial crisis has brought increased hardship and frustration, through both a lack of services and cuts to public sector jobs. On top of this, a deregulated labour market, zero-hour contracts and the gig economy mean that work, if you can get it, is precarious and low paid. In this context, reactionary nationalism is mobilised for political gain, and migrants, whether constructed as workers or scroungers, documented or illegal, have shouldered much of the blame for finance capitalism's fiscal calamities. A nostalgia for empire and the euphoria of world war victory has displaced demands for a return to post-war welfarism. The crisis of legitimacy for governments that cannot provide the jobs and prosperity promised by market-led growth has been partially reconciled by new covenants, promises to protect the nation from violent crime, terrorism and immigrants.

I truly hope we get Elain's perspective as she tumbled from the cauldron, the overwhelming rush of emotions when she witnessed the blinding light, and a scarred, handsome redhead approaching her with his jacket, gently covering her.
The sensation as he scooped her up from the ground to shield her from the wet floor, holding her close until Nesta intervened.
Amid Nesta's frantic checks for her safety, what thoughts consumed her as she fixated on him, seemingly oblivious to her sister?
Her mind raced until their eyes locked, and he whispered those fateful words, "you're my mate."
Upon their return to Velaris, his jacket still wrapped around her, what thoughts danced in her mind?
Several months elapsed, and she could feel his heartbeat through the walls. It compelled her to leave her room for the first time, venturing to the library, where he would eventually risk the wrath of two individuals for a book.
How did she feel, knowing what he meant to her, when she heard him speak his name for the very first time?
