in love w this photo of Béla’s gorgeous/scary makeup for the stage production of Dracula
he liked to do his own makeup for theater, so at some point in the 1930s he was backstage doing fire smokey winged eyeliner for his look as the lord of vampires

Edit to add: Had a lot of folks asking for a link for this, it was just on youtube and that upload has been taken down.
Found a bootleg of Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors. Obviously it’s going to be better live but….I’d say it was nice. Pleasant enough, friendly enough, and I love the reader’s theatre style staging. I would see this show.

The greatest production of Dracula I ever saw was called “Dracula: Fangs of Destiny”.
The play was produced by Questors Theatre in London and starred five people. Literally, just five. At least two people were playing double parts, and one of the actors was playing Dracula and Van Helsing.
Seriously, there was a moment where Dracula was harassing Jonathan and Quincey in Mina’s bedroom. The dialogue was as follows:
*Dracula flees through the window*
*brief pause for costume change time*
One of the guys: Where’s Van Helsing when you need him?!’
*very obviously out of breath Van Helsing comes running in out of the wings*
“I...I came as quick as I could”

Can we bring back the stage production of Dracula? Especially with the Edward Gorey sets. I need this.

I’ve seen Astarion grouped in with Dracula a few times when he is CLEARLY Lucy-coded. Superpower of “everyone loves you and is going to murder the hell out of the vampire that did this to you.”

I was so confused during today’s Drac Daily about this part in particular
Because that??? Bro, that ain’t Hamlet.
I went digging and found someone attempting to explain it:
If it is referencing this scene then it’s the part in the play where Hamlet says he’s going to throw everything off the table of his mind and focus only on revenge (this does...not work out for him).
BUT THEN
SO BASICALLY
B A S I C A L L Y
Stoker’s dumb acting friend MISQUOTED SHAKESPEARE loudly and often enough that it wound up in this novel????????
