The worm/”OK Stop” episode is actually incredibly brilliant in retrospect because it’s not just a parody of the trappings of those circa-’80s-or-’90s anti-bullying campaigns, but also very pointedly illustrates why a lot of “zero-tolerance” anti-bullying policies didn’t work. Everything from the “program” being more invested in the reputation and feelings of the adults pushing it than actually defending the kids or calling out prejudice as the source of the bullying, to the program being sorta-represented by a guy who turns out to be a nonstop scandal factory and little more than a particularly pathetic species of emotional-parasite-with-a-persecution-complex who enters toxic/abusive interpersonal dynamics with everyone he comes into contact with, but who still desperately clings to his image of himself as a self-help motivational speaker who’s way cooler, less insecure, and a better role model for children than he actually is to the point where he constantly asserts he’s something he’s not (an eagle).

I'm probably not the first person to think of this, but it was the first thing that sprung to mind when I saw the Carehound lol

as with all great horror shows, don't hug me i'm scared proves itself one of the greatest by presenting a very unsubtle "fuck capitalism" message in the very first episode of the tv show.
like seriously. they really said "work treats you like mindless zombies. the boss gets paid for doing absolutely nothing while you only really get treated like an actual human if you contort yourself until your back breaks to fit in, going above and beyond to try and mould yourself into a perfect worker. before long you look up and time has passed and everyone you love is old now, rotting away in the workplace, but it's okay, because you're part of the team, right? and then an accident happens and everyone rejoices because the management doesn't give a shit about workers' health, the 'workplace safety' video being completely performative and the mental health services being absolute rubbish. and in the end, what was it all for? a one pence piece."
like, dhmis heavily relies on shock value and is often traumatic, but the execution and the message is fucking fantastic.

shout out to @blogexplosive13 for finding this great little reference/bit of backstory for Warren the Eagle in episode 2, ‘Death’! i reckon we all knew that Warren’s not being ‘technically affiliated’ with the OK Stop organisation anymore was not due to an amiable split, but the confirmation that it was his active harassment is great to know 😭💖
you know, perhaps Warren associating himself with an eagle has a more practical motive...if his firing was scandalous enough to be front-page news, then of course he wouldn’t want to be known as ‘the worm that got fired for harassment.’ that also makes sense as to why he repeatedly protects himself by emphasising that he isn’t with OK Stop anymore - it may well be a legal issue!! 💀
