Finished Danball Senki W Super Custom in its entirety.
The Mizel arc was a massive pain to go through being grid dungeon after grid dungeon endlessly.... I think I never want to see another one of those in my life.
I think I enjoyed the sidequests more than the rest of the game itself. Partially because I was super OP after all the recruiting, partially because the Masked Family scenario was hilarious, but most of all I didn’t have to deal with annoying grid dungeons (mostly). Although I knew you could encounter the Masked Family, I didn’t realize you could recruit them... which is a bit trippy considering you already have Ban on your team. It’s also really hilarious to use them both at once.
It was a lot easier overall than the first game even despite the killer droids. Being able to do damage when opponents get knocked down and taking away their temp invincibility shield when they get back up made things so easy. To the point it’s a bit hard to go back to the first game now because I’m in the habit of just endless beating down my opponent, oops. The AI was really dumb this time around though. I miss my competent AI from the first game that could actually take down opponents instead of standing around despite being set on “focus on attacking”.
The amount of times the game chooses your party for you was one thing I really disliked. During the first 10 chapters you basically had to keep up with customization on everyone just to avoid worst case scenarios. Which is incredibly expensive, and you definitely don’t get enough money in early game for it. Since you no longer get medals to sell, you can really only sell parts or items which isn’t really ideal. Thankfully there was only one section in the Mizel arc with that, and by that time I had enough OP LBXs I could switch everyone around on to make it bearable.
The seeker board was interesting this time around, and it was fun having everyone’s convos all over it...but it kinda died out near the end of the game. Compared to how often it updated in the first few chapters, it felt like they got lazy with it lol. There was a lot less quests than the first game, but most were linked in storylines and were a lot more interesting this time around.
I was surprised how many arcs were in the anime that didn’t even exist in the game. The game story content this time felt even more stream-lined and simplified than the first one, despite having a lot more dialogue. It felt really stinted, whereas I never really felt that from the first one. The W anime really did a lot for the characters ahaha. But most surprising was the god awful way Masked B talks Ban how are you not dying of embarrassment
I only have a few caps from my playthrough, either of seeker board conversations or from the masked family scenario. If I can find a video of it, I might just translate that whole scenario because it was A+. And because Ban’s mom Masked M might be the most terrifying existence in the dansen universe.
I need a serious break before properly staring Wars as I’m completely burnt out on reading Japanese now orz Time to go play a few games in English to recharge.
Now to go regrind an area for Lucifer since my teammates screwed up my final break chances to get his parts (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

Playing through Danball Senki W Super Custom and...
This is the first time in a game I’ve ever been annoyed at fps drops. 2v2 or 3v3 battles is awful, and all the pre-rendered 3D cutscenes are choppy as hell OTL This kind of crappy QC isn’t normal for L5. I’d heard there were fps drops but usually those kind of complaints stem from very minor ones that no one but PC elitists care for, so I wasn’t really expecting it to be that bad.
That aside, it’s fun so far but also a bit overwhelming how much more content there is to choose from at the very start. I also wish they didn’t do a pixel font and increased the pt size...sometimes I have to squint hard to read the furigana =_=) It’s tempting to connect my 3DS to my computer and blow up the size on my screen just so I can read it easier.
And Jessica’s AI can’t stay alive for shit dear god anytime I’m forced to have her on my team it is hell.
The motions are a bit different from the first game, so I’m still adjusting timing and all, but so far it’s infinitely easier difficulty-wise. Even though I had a preference for Lances in the first game, I like Swords and Knuckles here more. Minerva so far is my favorite to use and her damage output is also the highest of the starters. Her tension gauge also decreases a lot slower.
Playing through it extremely slowly since reading so much JP at once makes me sleepy too fast. It’s pretty heavy on dialogue compared to the first game, which only had just enough information to move things on and let the anime flesh it out more.
I also tested an hour of Wars and all the military jargon makes me want to KO in 5 minutes lol.
