Stefan VS Damon

Both are HOT. But...for different reasons. This is what I think.

Preface: I am new to the TVD fandom. I just finished season 2 and am a slow watcher since I am watching the series exclusively with my cousin whenever we hang out. Of course I am aware of the big debate...Stefan or Damon (although Jeremy Gilbert is superior imo lol).

Here is my (un)professional take so far:

Stefan would sacrifice you to save the world (bc that's what you want). He loves unconditionally and fully. He wants nothing more than for Elena to be happy, even if that means her happiness comes at his expense. He also completely understands the value that the people she loves have in her life, and he would understand that if it came down to it: her or the world(and therefore the people she loves), he should try to save the world FOR HER. Because Elena wouldn't want to live if the people she loves aren't there. Not only that, but my guy Stefan is a feminist, and everything that is done is always about ELENA'S CHOICE. That means even when he doesn't agree, or it is painful for him. He is always on her side.

On the other hand

Damon would sacrifice the world to save you. Because while Stefan loves softly and passionately, Damon loves recklessly and incessantly. Damon wouldn't spare a second thought to the world, because his love is like a fire burning desperately wanting more. He "loves" Elena, but her happiness is an after thought. He *s2 spoiler* would rather force his blood down her throat than risk the possibility of her dying and not coming back. Because he loves her and her ONLY. He doesn't think about what she would want...only that he couldn't bear being without her. And Damon would kill or destroy anything or anyone in his way if it meant that she was safe. Because while Stefan needs her happiness, Damon could care less about that...Damon just needs her. And this is by no means healthy...but golly gee, it's attractive.

Idk what is gonna happen. Maybe something significant will go down leaving me angry with Stefan, but as of right now I could not imagine him messing up that bad. Right now idk how I could ship Damon with Elena when Stefan is right there. Yes the chemistry between Delena is AMAZING, but he doesn't want what is best for her. And honestly, I kinda think that he views her as an idealized version of Katherine instead of who she actually is. Yes, Damon deserves love and deserves to be happy and I want nothing but joy for him, but I don't think that joy is going to come from Elena. Imo Stefan is so much better for her, and (as of rn) I stand by that.

Will never understand the needless morality logic Stefan stans place around their love for Stefan (which only ever seems to exist to hate on Damon). I will always prefer a man that kills for an emotional reason over a man that kills just due to the lust to kill. Bloodlust is a desire just as much as “I killed him because I wanted to”-Damon always kills for humanity/emotional reasons. It’s just that stefan denies that bloodlust is a desire, while Damon admits his desire. Will always prefer a man that owns his flaws instead of denies them. I guess it’s my personal emotional bias, that denial of flaws imo is less redeemable than reveling in one’s flaws (Damon). Denial of flaws (and looking down on other’s) is the whole basis of the Christian white supremacist b.s. I’ve lived under my whole life.

like once a day I randomly think of how Elena told Damon, maybe if you and I had met first and Damon said maybe with that soft smile on ‘cause he knew they did met first and he knew what Elena meant was if I knew you before Stephan I would have chosen you and then her memories start coming back and she remembers meeting him first and what he told her and she sees a different side of him and it changes everything for her 'cause she realizes Damon has always been what she's been looking for, even back then. And it really messes me up. I don’t know who thought of this but definitely top 10 tv show moments of all time

The vampire diaries is sooo mf complex like I hate the fact that basically if I want to rewatch it? I have to binge it, actually pay attention, and watch through delenas insufferable relationship. I hate Damon, I only have a sexual liking towards his character but no emotional kind of connection, respect, or liking towards him. Damon throughout that whole show was a piece of lowlife shit to me, especially killing Vickie. Vickies death was low asf to me and for literally no reason ESPECIALLY THE ABUSE ON CAROLINE. Everyone takes his good moments and his shots at redemption as this save all as if that suddenly puts all the lives he’s took and ruined in the past or even in the present goes away and just becomes forgiven for all his monstrous actions. “He’s a villain that’s what he’s supposed to do” SOME PEOPLE DONT LIKE VILLIANS and I don’t like Damon as a “villain”. To me he’s more an anti hero or just a bad guy with mental issues but if we’re gonna put his actions towards the villainy route then so be it. I LOVE villians mind you, they’re smarter than the protagonist usually and have really good reasoning for being the way they are or doing what they’re doing. But Damon? Was pure revenge and spite. He said it himself he was gonna make Stefan’s life a living hell for forcibly turning him but I feel Damon went completely overboard with everything he’s did throughout season after season after season. It never stopped, he never stopped taking the good things and people Stefan had away from him, he never stopped abusing ppl until like last minute, he manipulated woman and so much more. And let’s not talk about how everytime Elena “rejected” him or made him upset? That always ended in a body dead the next couple of days PLUS HIM LITERALLY SNAPPING JEREMYS NECK BECAUSE ELENA REJECTED HIM. Was that not enough? Like idk it’s just fucking delusional to me how Damon fans love to act like he’s a saint or him redeeming himself suddenly makes up for the shit he’s done. it does not. he still kept doing these things. He’s done a lot of good and I see that, Damon is capable of caring, loving, protecting, and being loyal to people but he can be an absolute monster WAS an absolute monster, and I don’t think any of the things he’s done that were supposed to redeem him? Did it for me. It didn’t, it doesn’t make up for anything he’s done in my eyes it’s as simple as not accepting an apology. There’s a good man in there but where was he when he was out doing the bullshit he was doing? Hurting people? Abusing women? Manipulating them? Attacking tormenting and hurting his own family? No where. “I’ll admit it took Elena for me to actually wanna do right by people” and that’s the saddest most fucked up thing he’s could’ve ever admit to. Everyone always praised how he’s able to take responsibility for his actions but these actions are FUCKED UP ADMITTING THAT IT TOOK YOUR BROTHERS GIRLFRIEND TO ACTUALLY CHANGE AND STOP KILLING AND HURTING PEOPLE????
